Freeform Will No Longer Host 'Harry Potter' Weekends, So My Childhood Has Officially Ended

$

I don't know about you, but I'm struggling to remember to call what was once ABC Family by its new name Freeform. I know it's been about a year since the name change, but old habits die hard. A tradition that carried over to Freeform was the frequent and beloved Harry Potter weekend marathon, aka a chance to binge-watch all of the HP flicks throughout the weekend. But soon, we won't even have this sweet reminder of ABC Family days. Hello Giggles reports that starting Jan. 1, Freeform will lose the rights to air the Harry Potter movies. Well, goodbye childhood.

While this deadline still means we'll have one last Harry Potter marathon over the holidays (Happy Christmas, Harry!), it marks a crucial change in the network's change of content and audience appeal. The channel made the transition to Freeform to maintain older, millennial viewership, and shows such as The Bold Type have emerged as a result. So the changes haven't been all bad, right?

However, there's still hope for those who want plenty of access to the Harry Potter franchise. HBO has acquired the rights to all eight films, allowing its subscribers to access them at any time and watch whenever they actually air on the channel. This may not be the same as marathoning the movies on a chill weekend and having built-in bathroom breaks, but I certainly can't complain.

5 Reasons to Give Up Playing It Cool in a Relationship

$

0

Cuddle weather has fallen upon us, and there you are – shacking it up with your new potential SO. The beginning of a relationship is full of excitement, rushes of adrenaline and inevitably overthinking. Before getting ready for that date or sending a text, we think of that dreaded question – “Am I doing too much?”

As soon as you think you’re doing too much, you may find that you resort to “playing it cool,” otherwise known as downplaying your emotions to not come off as too strong.

There is a fine line between “playing it cool” and coming off uninterested. By playing it cool, you end up limiting yourself. As much as you are a queen that anyone would be lucky to have, any potential SOs won’t be able to recognize your worth behind the wall you’re putting up. Here are the six excuses you might find yourself making to justify playing it cool, and why you should avoid them.

1. “They’ll think I’m annoying.”

One of the most common patterns among women who prefer to not come off strong or show as much interest is the fear of being annoying.

Even the most kind-hearted people find themselves in a bind when it comes to a budding relationship. Being your authentic, affectionate self can be inhibited by the fear of being annoying. *Amber, a junior at Kennesaw State University, has trouble finding the balance.

“Naturally, I am a really loving person, but the last thing I want to feel like is a nuisance to someone,” Amber says. “So I try to dial back the lovingness sometimes because I’m not sure every guy I’m interested can handle it.”

In the eyes of a mature man or woman looking for a relationship, there is no correlation between showing interest and being annoying. If your almost-SO deems you as a pest for texting them first or taking initiative when it comes to hanging out, then chances are they are doing you a favor by showing you a red flag.

2. “I won’t talk to him/her for several days so they can miss me.”

Do you want them to miss you…or forget you?

Space can enhance a relationship if there are already deep, established feelings. You often hear couple’s taking a little break from each other in order to get back on track to a healthy, happy relationship after recovering from a rough patch. However, if the relationship is fresh, acting  like you aren't bothered can steer your new lover into another direction entirely.

Jorge Lupita, a junior at Georgia Gwinnett College, admits to losing interest if there doesn't’t seem to be an interest on the girl’s behalf. “The whole girls not reaching out first thing never made sense to me,” Jorge says. “If you want to talk to someone, just do it. If I don’t hear from you for a long time, I’m going to think she’s not interested.”

Communication doesn’t have to be 24-hours a day, seven days a week. However, there should be a balance on both ends.

3. “I don’t want to be labeled as ‘that crazy girl,’ especially if they talk to their friends about me.”

Let’s get one thing straight. Taking initiative, being open and being straight up are not the behaviors of someone crazy. If someone you’re talking to goes behind your back and refers to you as crazy for doing so, laugh in their face. One of the biggest mistakes you can make in a relationship is playing it cool about things that bother you instead of openly speaking up.

*Marsha, a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University, found herself in a situation where she let a guy walk all over her, all in the name of “playing it cool.”

“My biggest regret is that I didn’t put him in his place,” she says. "I should’ve shown him that I can’t be bossed around. I should have told him how I felt instead of waiting for him to take the reigns. I should have demanded more respect.”

Wouldn't’t you rather you be open with someone and immediately know from their reaction if they are worthy of your time or not? Although you shouldn't’t profess your love to an unsuspecting someone a week after you meet them, if something is weighing on your heart in a relationship – speak it.

4. “The man should be the man.”

The idea that men should do everything in the relationship has been spoon-fed to us by society for years, and it’s assumed that women should just be on the receiving end. However, since we’re all for gender equality these days, should we really still be participating in this behavior?

Hannah Harshe, a sophomore at University of Michigan, believes it is up to us to confidently keep knocking down the gender role stereotypes that hold women to certain behaviors in a relationship.

“Boys will never know what to do with us – but the good ones will stand in awe of us, while the bad ones will try to squash us down with gender stereotypes and patriarchal constructs,” Hannah says.

Acting on feelings shouldn’t be limited exclusively to men. If you want to do something, do it. Make no excuses on behalf on your gender.

5. “I don’t want to get hurt.”

In the end, a lot of repressing feelings boils down to not wanting to get hurt. You hide your feelings in the hopes that if the relationship ends up failing before it even begins, you won’t be disappointed.

However, no matter how much you mask your feelings to the world, you will still end up disappointed if the relationship ends. Don’t give yourself the opportunity to ask yourself, “What could I have done differently?” Be authentically you and know that better opportunities are on the way if you were 100 percent yourself and things still didn't work

It’s time to take back our power, ladies. No patriarchal social construct should restrict how you interact with a potential lover. Feel free to openly express yourself, make mistakes, meet the wrong people and date even wrong-er ones…all to meet the right person.

A Photo of Teenage Meghan Markle at Buckingham Palace Exists, & It's the Greatest Foreshadowing

Future royal Meghan Markle has had quite the week. After her engagement to Prince Harry was announced on Monday, she officially departed from her TV show Suits, her wedding venue was revealed and plans for her to become a British citizen were confirmed. Although she may have said in the couple's engagement interview that she didn't know much about Harry and his family growing up, Meghan's teenage self has betrayed at least some interest in royal life (I mean, don't we all blame things on our 15-year-old selves?). Cosmopolitan reports that a photo of 15-year-old Meghan in front of Buckingham Palace has hit the British press circuit, showing just how eerie fate can be.

British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail featured the 1996 photo on its front cover on Wednesday. In it, Meghan and a friend pose on a gate a short distance away from the palace, which is Queen Elizabeth's official London residence. While Meghan has moved into the nearby Kensington Palace with Harry and will continue to live there after their wedding next year, I'm sure she'll end up making plenty of appearances at Buckingham throughout the years.

Obviously, the quintessentially '90s-looking photo has Twitter dying.

This love story just continues to be a Hallmark movie come to life. If I share the photo of me in front of Buckingham Palace, do I magically meet an obscure royal cousin?

23 Signs You’re the Functional Drunk of Your Friend Group

Every crew has one: the girl that manages to be the life of the party and never lose her cool…or her keys, wallet or memory. It’s truly a gift but a strange one at that. Seriously, how many beer pong tournaments must you endure before you can play (and drink) like a pro? Is it possible to look and act completely sober, even when you completely aren't? Are you blessed with the ability to get super crazy without getting super sloppy? Read on and find out.

1. You’ve been nicknamed “the tank” by more than one friend.

You might as well be in a world record book at this point.

2. You’re praised for drinking semi-responsibly at pre-games.

You alternate between taking shots and taking hot selifes.

3. Seriously, you manage your liquor really well.

People still freak that you can swallow tequila without a chaser.

4. Everyone jokes that you’re actually half-human.

Someone call the X-Men and ask if they’re looking for another mutant to join the team.

5. You can throw back any drink without throwing up afterwards.

Beer, gin, the questionable juice that tastes like bad decisions…

6. And no matter how shit-faced you get, you still manage to take good pictures.

Everyone wonders: WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?

7. You also never lose anything, no matter how crazy the night is.

The most you have to worry about is how loud the DJ will blast your favorite Beyoncé songs.

8. Your friends usually shove their stuff in your purse, as a safety precaution.

With great alcohol tolerance comes great responsibility.

9. You’re actually the protective glue that keeps the group together.

In sickness, in health and in long lines at dingy bars.

10. Sometimes you wish your drunkeness was more obvious.

You never, ever look as drunk as you feel.

11. Because people are constantly accusing you of not being drunk enough.

And if you’re offered free drinks, you can’t be rude and say no!

12. You’ve mastered the art of drunk dancing/walking/talking.

Drunk you is disguised as a fun-loving human! Go figure!

13. Even while hooking up, you always keep tabs on your girls.

Making out with your eyes open is creepy AF, but that’s the sacrifice you make to keep your friends safe.

14. You also always manage to delete embarrassing Snaps before they’re up for too long.

Otherwise, the world would’ve seen you dog-filter lick the sexy bouncer.

15. And no matter what you drunk eat, you never wake up with stains on your clothes.

Meanwhile, everyone else’s going-out outfits still smell like cheese fries.

16. In fact, waking up isn’t really that painful for you.

You’ve conditioned yourself to the party lifestyle.

17. At this point, you’re so used to hangovers, you’re practically immune to them.

There is nothing in this world that a breakfast sandwich and nap can’t solve.

18. Which may be because you never forget to take your water/Advil combo before falling asleep.

It's like your body is programmed to do it without you trying.

19. Your friends joke that if they started a company of party animals, you’d be the CEO.

Now that’s a career goal you wouldn’t mind working towards.

20. If your makeup from the night before still looks good, you have no problem wearing it the next day.

You spent three hours putting on false lashes—might as well make the most of those suckers.

21. You’re also told that you should write a book about your wild nights…since you actually remember them.

That would help you pay off your student loans, so why not?

22. You secretly pride yourself on having a liver of steel.

This must be what it feels like to be a superhero…a super drinker.

23. But you’re most proud of being able to add to all the fun, without taking away from it.

Keep the good times coming.

American Airlines Faces Major Threat of Holiday Flight Cancellations

After an error in a computer scheduling system assigned too many pilots on vacation, thousands of American Airlines flights could be cancelled over the holidays as a result. The New York Times reports that the company is trying to call back pilots with the offer of one and a half times their regular pay. However, the union Allied Pilots Association has claimed that it cannot guarantee the premium payment. Jared Kushner Has Met With Special Counsel Team

CNN reports that Jared Kushner met with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team earlier this month to discuss former national security advisor Michael Flynn's possible role in Russian interference in the 2016 election. Mueller's team is currently investigating Flynn and factors such as his relationship with former FBI Director James Comey. Kushner was reportedly with the team for less than 90 minutes, clarifying some of his previous comments to the media and cooperating with Mueller's forces in their quest to determine if Kushner knew anything that clears Flynn's name.

Domino's Will Celebrate New Life With Its Own Baby Registry

Well, now I've heard it all. Delish reports that Domino's, your go-to chain for cheap pizza after a night out, has opened a baby registry just nine months after releasing its wedding registry. If the pizza fanatic in your life is expecting a baby, he or she can register for things like pizza mugs, pizza-themed onesies and even pizza meal packages. "From baby showers to the big delivery, our baby registry makes it easy to enjoy pizza during the exciting events leading up to the baby arrivals and thereafter," said Domino's digital marketing director Meenakshi Nagarajan.

What to look out for...

You can mark Nov. 30 by celebrating Computer Security Day, which is definitely a must in today's society. Check if your security software is up to date, run a virus scan and make sure all of your passwords are still good to go.

It’s always fun to change up your hairstyle. Whether you’re doing it to “reinvent” yourself or you simply want to try something new, there seems to be no limit when it comes to fun options for your hair.

But we’re sure many of you can agree that going from super straight hair to any look with curls can be difficult (and frustrating). Sure, it might look curly for five minutes, but it always seems to fall flat. Luckily, we’ve found a few tips to help you naturally straight-haired ladies find a way to add some waves to your look!

1. Beachy Waves

Who can’t relate to daydreaming of beach days and the amazing hair that comes with them? Alyssa Ashley Ames, hairstylist and salon owner of Hair Care N Design, shares a unique tip to help you get this look: “Instead of using a towel to dry your hair, use a tee shirt! The tee shirt helps keep the hair cuticles smooth and eliminates frizz rather than a towel which can be more rough.” She explains, “First, squeeze most of the water out of your hair, then use a sea salt spray, and finish by wrapping your hair up in a tee shirt to help soak up the rest of the water for a little while. This will help you get that wavy, beachy look!”

Innovative and simple, this is something all collegiettes are sure to appreciate with their busy lives!

2. Natural Looking Waves

Sometimes your curls will be difficult, refusing to hold their shape and falling out before the day is over. This calls for the help from some styling tools! Ames explains an easy way to give a more natural look to your curls. “Another option would be to use heat with a wand (if your hair is really hard to get curls to stay use a thin one),” she says. “Be sure to change the direction you curl your hair in every time you take a new piece. That will give you a more natural, wavy and messy look. Also, leaving the ends straighter keeps the style from looking too curly!”

This look is great for a night out with your girls! It looks effortless but will definitely turn heads. If you find your curls are looking too tight, don’t be afraid to curl them a few hours before you plan to head out. This will allow them to loosen slightly while your hairspray keeps them in place.

3. Quick Waves

It’s impossible not to appreciate the effort some girls put into their beauty routine every morning. You know, the girls who go to their 8 am class with flawless hair and makeup—props to you if you’re one of them! However, we know this isn’t the case for everyone, especially during a busy week.

Some days you need a quicker go-to look for killer wavy hair. Riccardo Maggiore, of Riccardo Maggiore Salons NYC, shares his insight on different ways to get wavy hair, starting with quick waves before class! Maggiore broke it down step by step so you can master this technique.

  1.  Distribute a heat protectant and apply mousse or styling lotion evenly throughout the hair.
  2. Braid the hair.
  3. Spray hairspray or texturizer on the braid.
  4. Run your flat iron over the braid as if you were straightening your hair.
  5. Set with hairspray or texturizer.
  6. Undo the braid and shape the waves with your fingers and set with a texturizing hair spray.”

Remember, it’s always super important to use a heat protectant spray before you use any tool with heat on your hair! This will help to prevent damage and keep your hair looking healthy.

4. Overnight Waves

If you could go to sleep and wake up with fabulous hair, wouldn’t you? We thought so. Prepare to have your dreams come true because Maggiore explained the simple process of how to get waves while you catch up on your beauty sleep.

  1.  Distribute a heat protectant and apply mousse or styling lotion evenly throughout the hair.
  2.  Sleep in braids
  3.  In the morning undo braids and shape curls with your fingers and set with a texturizing hairspray.”

It’s that easy! Sleeping on damp hair isn’t always that enjoyable, but the beautiful waves the morning after will make this your go-to look for wavy hair. And don’t forget to use hairspray to help your hair look fabulous all day. Riccardo recommends Riccardo Maggiore Fortezza Extra Hold Hair Spray.

Don’t be afraid to give these tips a try if you want to flaunt a new, wavy look opposed to your naturally straight!

Ming Xi's Fall Wasn't Edited Out of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show & People Are Not Happy About It

Victoria's Secret has felt a lot of buzz surrounding their annual fashion show, and not just because of the runway outfits. The 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show filmed in Shanghai, China has probably been the most dramatic yet. In addition to the news of Katy Perry and Gigi Hadid getting denied Chinese visas, the show has been highly criticized this year for a leaked video of models singing the "N-word" backstage and also for airing model Ming Xi's fall on the runway.

During the show's taping, Xi took a rough fall during her walk in the Goddess segment. The Angel looked stunning in her lingerie and gladiator-inspired costume, but the long white chiffon robe is likely what may have caused her to tangle and slip. "It no doubt one of the hardest moments I have ever had to go through," Ming shared in an emotional Instagram post prior to the show's reveal.

As many of you may already know, I fell during my 5th year walking at the Victoria's Secret show yesterday. It was no doubt one of the hardest moments I have ever had to go through in my career, especially since the show was taking place in my hometown, in front of my mother's and my people's eyes. However, the support I received from everyone yesterday was incredible and I am truly grateful to everyone who was there for me. @ed_razek Thank you for your supportive words and your continuous support throughout these 7 years. @giizeleoliveira Thank you for helping me up after the fall, it was a very selfless and loving act from you. Thank you to all the girls who rushed to comfort me at backstage after what had happened, you are all family to me. Lastly thank you to everyone who sent and left me supportive messages. I will pick myself up from where I fell, and I will keep going in order to repay all the support you all have given me!! #vsfashionshow @victoriassecret

A post shared by Ming Xi (@mingxi11) on

When the show aired Tuesday, November 28 on CBS, millions of viewers watched Xi not only fall on the runway but cry backstage as well. This incident was extremely devastating for the model who was previously filmed expressing her excitement to walk in her hometown in front of her family. Many people on Twitter, including Chrissy Teigen, criticized the studio for not editing out Ming Xi's fall.

The CBS Network also tweeted a replay of the incident with an attempt at encouraging words––only to cause more backlash.

Ultimately, Xi has received so much support from viewers and her fellow VS Angels, including Gizele Oliveira who helped her on the runway after the fall. Xi later shared a post featuring her and Gizele watching the live viewing.

While Ming Xi's fall definitely did not to be included in the final show, we're so happy to see the beautiful waves of support and kind words people have given her. Keep supporting one another ladies!

Jay-Z Explained Why He Cheated on Beyoncé & How Music Saved Their Marriage

$

Though Beyoncé and Jay-Z are arguably THE king and queen of music today, the power couple is not without flaws. As fans learned from Bey's album Lemonade and Jay's long-awaited 4:44 that dropped shortly after, their marriage has not always been picture perfect. Both albums sparked rumors of infidelity, but it wasn't until now that Jay-Z finally confirmed to The New York Times that he did, in fact, cheat on his goddess of a wife.

While Lemonade gave us ladies enough one-liners to blow off any unworthy man, it also gave listeners a firsthand look into the most painful parts of the Carters' relationship. Speaking to The New York Times, Jay-Z explained why he was unfaithful to his wife in the first place. He began, "You have to survive. So you go into survival mode and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions. So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect. In my case, like, it's deep. And then all the things that happen from there: infidelity."

The rapper admitted the hurt that he caused and explained why he decided to fight for his marriage. "Most people walk away. Divorce rate is like 50 percent or something, because most people can't see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you caused, and then you have to deal with yourself. Most people don't want to do that. You don't want to look inside yourself, and so you walk away."

As BuzzFeed notes, both Lemonade and 4:44 addressed Jay-Z's suspected infidelity, but there's a reason behind that. Rather than ending their marriage, the Carters decided to work through the pain with the shared passion that brought them together in the first place: music. A joint album was in the works, but Jay-Z said it made more sense for Bey to drop her own album instead.

"We were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together. And then the music she was making at that time was further along. So her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on. It was uncomfortable. But I was really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. At the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another's craft. I think she's amazing."

Jay-Z's interview proves that no relationship, or person, is perfect. As hard as this time had to be for the couple, it resulted in some great music and a seemingly stronger relationship. Beyonce sang it herself, "Me and my baby, we gon' be alright, we gon' live a good life." As always, Queen B was right.

Trader Joe's Is Selling 'Jingle Jangle,' But It's Not the 'Riverdale' Drug You're Thinking of

Trader Joe's caused a lot of confusion among Riverdale viewers when fans discovered that the grocery store chain sells "Jingle Jangle,"Entertainment Weekly reports. For anyone who's not addicted to the show (is that even possible?), Jingle Jangle is a widely distributed drug and one of the many things threatening the youth of Riverdale. You know, besides the Serpents, the Ghoulies and a psychopathic hooded man currently on a murder spree.

On Riverdale, Jingle Jangle is an ecstasy-like drug sold in the form of Pixie Stix. Don't be alarmed—the Trader Joe's version is nothing like that. In fact, the store started selling their Jingle Jangle way before we even met the CW versions of Archie and his crew. In the real world, Jingle Jangle is nothing but a festive name for "a fun mix of fan favorite candy treats." The tin full of goodies includes chocolate-covered pretzels, caramel corn, peanut-butter cups and definitely no drugs.

Jingle Jangle your way to my heart  (@junkbanter )

A post shared by Trader Joe's List (@traderjoeslist) on

A representative from Trader Joe's was sure to set the record straight when asked about the shared name. “It’s just a fun name that plays off of sleigh bells referenced in Christmas carols since it is a holiday item,” said the representative. “It’s also a fun way to describe the sound customers might hear when they give the tin can a shake.”

Only the twisted mysteries of Riverdale could lead people (including me) to think their local grocery store is dealing a fictional drug. It's quite possible that The CW is taking over the world.

Selena Gomez Reveals Why She's Hanging Out With Justin Bieber Again & How Her Relationship With The Weeknd Ended

Selena Gomez just becameBillboard's Woman of the Year, and with that came a fantastic photo shoot and interview. Of course she was asked about Justin Bieber and her recent split from The Weeknd.

The question was straightforward: "What brought Justin back into your life?" Keep in mind this question followed one about "the best part about being single."

"I’m 25. I’m not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away. And [that goes for] people in general," she told the magazine. Not too vague, but it does hint that Justin and Selena could be trying to repair what happened when they were teenagers.

Rumors of a Jelena reunion started when they were spotted together right before her breakup with The Weeknd. Justin and Selena have been riding bikes together, hanging out with friends, getting dinner, and even going to church. However, they were only friends at the time and weren't seen kissing until Selena and The Weeknd officially split.

According to the pop star, she and The Weeknd are still best friends. "Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me," Selena said.

I'm wondering what The Weeknd would say about that, since he just deleted all pictures of Selena from his Instagram. Selena, however, still has all of her pictures of him up.

While we're not really getting any clear answers about Selena's relationship status here, it's comforting to know that Sel and Justin are hanging out because they truly care about each other.

3 Reasons You Should Take A Career Aptitude Test

$

0

At some point in your academic or even professional career, you will likely come across the dreaded career aptitude test. The test, similar to ones you may have taken online to assess your personality type, is designed to determine the best career path for you based on your skills and interests. They can be as simple as this one developed by The Princeton Review, which briefly assesses your professional interests and work style, or incredibly in-depth. So, the pressure is definitely on. Honestly, who knew something so fleeting could mean so much?

It’s not uncommon to take this test in your junior or senior year of high school, as part of a career-advising plan at college or even during the interview process for a new job. Like personality tests, career aptitude tests are often right about a lot of things, but you shouldn’t freak out if your results are completely off-base. Here are three reasons you might consider taking a career aptitude test and two reasons to be wary of them.

Go for it!

1. You have no idea what you want to do with your life

Career aptitude tests can be excellent idea generators for students and young professionals who aren’t exactly sure what they should pursue. Danielle Radin, author of “Become A Networking Ninja: How To Network Out-of-the-Box and Into Employment,” says, “Many times, students don't know what field of work they will like, especially if they majored in a more general topic like English, communication or even biology. Taking an aptitude test can help you determine what your best skills are. You can then match that up with your passions and hobbies to find the perfect career.” Radin adds that many women in her professional network found their dream careers after career aptitude tests helped them learn more about themselves.

Whether you’re open to exploring new possibilities or you’re feeling unmotivated professionally, your test results could reveal a field of work you find thrilling but just hadn’t considered before.

2. You want a better idea of your strengths and weaknesses

A common misconception about career aptitude tests is that you must know everything about yourself going into the test and that the testing algorithm will simply manipulate the data. The truth is that the test is designed to help you get a better understanding of yourself. It asks a series of questions that are meant to reveal more about your personality as you go along. This includes your strengths and weaknesses, both professionally and socially.

Dr. Olatokunbo Famakinwa, a board-certified internal medicine physician, says that career aptitude tests can be useful even if you already know what you want to do professionally. “As a physician, I have had to take several of these and similar tests, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test and, most recently, a medical specialty aptitude test. While the tests were not completely accurate, these assessments were helpful in allowing me to look at medical specialties that I had not considered previously and learn more about my work style,” she says. She explains that, often, these tests will reveal what’s most important to you in a career and in which environments you’re likely to thrive. For example, a career aptitude test can determine whether you value independence in your workday or you prefer working as a part of a team. This information is crucial to your professional development.

3. You have doubts about your abilities and/or interests

Career aptitude tests, if designed effectively, will often reaffirm things you already know or suspect about yourself. If you are on the fence about taking your career in a different direction, a career aptitude test can relieve some of that hesitation by confirming that your new venture is actually perfect for you.

Dr. Jude Miller Burke, workplace psychologist, executive coach and author of “The Millionaire Mystique: How Working Women Become Wealthy and How You Can Too,” recommends using these tests in conjunction with in-person sessions led by a certified clinician. “Often, the test can confirm what has been said verbally and the interpretation of the results can be enjoyable for the client.” She explains that the printed reports generated by such tests are visually appealing and easy to read, giving a career coaching session more breadth and interest. You can actually learn a lot more than you set out to.

But be careful...

Although taking a career aptitude test can help you in the long run, it’s important to realize that not all of these tests or experiences are created equally. Tim Bennet, co-host of workplace podcast The Focus Group, says wisely, "one measurement does not a successful career make."

The truth is that career aptitude tests can create a lot of the same problems as standardized tests like the SATs do. For example, Dr. Burke explains that those who are very emotional or distressed might react poorly to graphs and scales. Instead, she notes, “They would benefit more from an open dialogue since the emotionality of it all might keep them from absorbing the results.” Here are two things to consider before taking a career aptitude test.

1. Know what your test focuses on and how it formulates its results

Career aptitude tests can be wrong, but there’s an explanation: they don’t all assess the same variables. Dr. Burke explains that there are career aptitude tests that evaluate personality traits, leadership sills, work-group strengths, professional interests, intelligence and psychopathology. It is important to know which test is right for you and how to interpret your results.

Pauline Delaney, a career coach at Resumegenius.com, says that some tests show disconnect between personality traits and interests. “Just because you may have a personality that is considered suitable for a certain profession doesn’t necessarily mean it aligns with your interests,” she explains. According to Delaney, personality-based tests are often more useful in giving someone a general idea of which professional direction they might turn to.

But, she adds, “It’s up to you to look at the specific job descriptions in that field and ask yourself if it sounds like something you would enjoy.” Her preference is interest-based testing like the O*Net’s Interest Profiler, which creates an interest profile for you based on your interest in actual job descriptions.

Different tests are appropriate for different people and different situations. If possible, talk to a career coach before deciding on which test is right for you.

2. Don’t take them too seriously

Although useful to an extent, career aptitude tests should be considered more of an auxiliary tool rather than a rigid prescription for the course of your professional life. Peter Yang, co-founder of ResumeGo and former HR manager, warns that no test is perfectly designed to consider all the variables that determine someone’s ability to do any one job. Instead, what they ultimately provide is a simplistic overview of someone’s character and a preliminary range of careers they should consider. Yang, like many other professionals, does not recommend you take these tests too seriously.

If you’re looking for some magical insight into your professional future, a career aptitude test probably won’t help.  But, if you’re interested in learning a bit more about yourself, it’s worth exploring. Lauren McAdams, a career advisor at ResumeCompanion.com, sums it up perfectly: “The best career assessments often tell you what you already want to do and the best way to find out what you want to do is to observe what you love doing. You don’t need a career assessment to tell you what your passion is.” You can do this!

Vegans, if you're not currently in the United Kingdom then I wouldn't get too excited just yet, but I won't tell y'all how to live your lives because what's going down in the UK Pizza Huts is pretty freakin' exciting. Two words: Vegan. Pizza. (Yas!)

The popular fast-food chain decided that, hey, it's 2017, so why not make pizzas that vegans can eat? Hello Giggles reports that Pizza Hut UK is now offering vegan pizza on their menu after two months of testing in England. Of course, with any big menu change, managers want to ensure that the demand for that new product is there, as they warned it would only become a permanent menu item if there was a high customer demand for the pies, according to Hello Giggles. Luckily, our fellow pizza-lovers of the vegan variety came through!

“After an amazing customer response to our vegan cheese trial earlier this year, we’re pleased to announce that the dairy-free alternative will now be served in all of our restaurants nationwide and feature as a permanent fixture on our menus,” said Gareth Hopley, Head of Communications at Pizza Hut Restaurants, Metro UK reports.

So, how is this incredible pizza innovation possible? Hello Giggles reports that the pizzas are made with an imitation cheese called Violife, a Greek producer of vegan dairy alternatives, according to Grub Street. If you happen to be in the UK, this delicious vegan-friendly pizza can be yours for an extra dollar. Until then, I'll cross my fingers extra hard for my vegan friends and frenemies that US Pizza Huts decide to hop on the vegan train.

A Screenwriter Says Russell Simmons Sexually Assaulted Her In The '90s

On November 19th, the Los Angeles Times published a story in which Keri Claussen Khalighi, a fashion model, detailed an encounter with the founder of hip-hop music label Def Jam Recordings and CEO of Rush Communications Russell Simmons. According to Khalighi, Simmons sexually assaulted her in his apartment in 1991, which triggered a letter in response from Simmons, disputing the accusation. Now, due to the explosion of the sexual misconduct in Hollywood brought to light and a particular phrase penned in Simmons' letter, another woman is stepping forward to share her story—and the details are absolutely chilling.

Screenwriter Jenny Lumet detailed in a letter published by the Hollywood Reporter the terrifying encounter she experienced at the hands of Simmons, also in 1991. Having known the music producer for several years and even worked with him in a film, she described him as "charming and funny and charismatic and self-deprecating," someone she could relax around—despite his light-hearted attempts to pursue her prior to the assault. However, on that night in 1991, her friendly relationship with Simmons took a very dark turn.

"You had a car and a driver that evening," Lumet recalls from that night out at a restaurant. "Sometime later, you offered me a ride to my home. I said, 'Sure.' During the making of the RUN DMC movie, I had been in vans with you and other crew members. I don't recall having accepted a ride home alone with you before that night."

Lumet then makes it very clear that she had no other intention than to return to her home, alone.

"At no time that night did I say: 'Russell, I will go home with you,' or 'Come home with me,' or 'I will have sex with you' or 'I have the desire to have sex with you.'"

She told the driver her address, but what Simmons said next will leave your stomach in knots.

"You said to the driver: 'No.' I didn't understand, so I said: 'Russell?' I said, again, to the driver: '19th Street.' Again you said to the driver: 'No.' Then the car doors locked. It was loud. The noise made me jump. I didn't recognize you at that moment. It was disorienting. It was disorienting. I say it twice now because you said 'No' twice then."

The driver had brought Lumet to Simmons' apartment.  Full of dread and feeling disoriented, Lumet explains that all she wanted to do was to return home, but at the same time wanted to keep Simmons and the driver calm. Overwhelmed and afraid of the two men before her, she was maneuvered into an elevator up to his apartment, where she was sexually assaulted.

"You moved me into a bedroom. I said, 'Wait.' You said nothing. I made the trade in my mind. I thought, 'Just keep him calm, and you'll get home.' Maybe another person would have thought differently, or not made the trade." she writes. Then, Lumet recalls the point of no return.

"It was dark but not pitch-dark. You closed the door. At that point, I simply did what I was told. There was penetration. At one point you were only semi-erect and appeared frustrated. Angry? I remember being afraid that you would deem that my fault and become violent. I did not know if you were angry, but I was afraid that you were."

"I desperately wanted to keep the situation from escalating," she continues. "I wanted you to feel that I was not going to be difficult. I wanted to stay as contained as I could. You told me to turn over on my stomach. You said something about a part of my body. You did not ejaculate inside me."

Lumet then quickly grabbed her clothes and returned home that same night in a taxi.

"I never told anyone this story until October 27 of this year (after the Harvey Weinstein story was in the news but weeks before the first public claims were made against you), when I told a girlfriend from childhood."

Like many victims of sexual assault, Lumet acknowledges that her public recollection of this story will cost her work, a reason why many don't step forward in the first place. She heartbreakingly acknowledges her privilege to be able to take that risk, but also the privilege she lacks in a different sense.

"There is so much guilt, and so much shame," she writes. "There is an excruciating internal reckoning. As a woman of color, I cannot express how wrenching it is to write this about a successful man of color. Again, shame about who I was years ago, choices made years ago."

She brings the letter to a close with one last thought directed toward Simmons. "In this very moment, I feel a pang to protect your daughters. I don't think you are inclined to protect mine."

Simmons has since then responded to Lumet's story and stepped down from his positions. "I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening," Simmons said in a statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Guy Who Deleted Trump's Twitter Account Has Been Revealed, & It's a Little Disappointing

Believe it or not, but it's only been about a month since President Donald Trump's Twitter account disappeared for several minutes. The disappearance was attributed to a "human error by a Twitter employee" on the employee's last day at the company. Now, said employee has come forward to speak about his brief claim to fame. CNN reports that Bahtiyar Duysak was working as a contractor at Twitter when he accidentally took down the president's infamous account.

"I did a mistake, I confess," the 28-year-old German native said to CNNTech. "It's not like I was looking for something or planning to do it. It was in front of me, and I didn't do a good job, and I didn't double-check things."

While I'm sure many people were hoping that Duysak removed the account as an act of protest against Trump, he insisted that he's actually an admirer of Trump's path to success. "He is a very successful person, and I admire his hard work and how he made it to get the highest position," Duysak said. "But I think he needs to learn a little as a politician."

Working through the contracting company Pro Unlimited, Duysak began focusing on Trump's account when it was reported by another user. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Duysak went about the process of punishing a reported account assuming that Trump's account would not actually be affected. While he didn't share the specifics of how he took down the account, Duysak allegedly didn't realize the error he had committed until news outlets began reporting the account's absence. He grew nervous because he knew he was the only employee who "left on the last day."

"Even if it was on purpose, it still shouldn't have taken place...because of internal regulations at the company," Duysak said of the page's disappearance. "But all of this, it's not my responsibility."

Calling the day of the deletion "one of those days," Duysak, who shared his story in a video interview with TechCrunch, has now returned to living in Germany. He requested to leave his company because he didn't want to extend his work visa, and his absence has left behind the question of how much power regular Twitter employees have over prominent user accounts.

"We have taken a number of steps to keep an incident like this from happening again," a Twitter spokesperson said.

Well, this definitely wasn't the rebellious act many hoped it would be.

It's safe to say that there aren't many purely good things in the world right now. Thankfully, Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé have come to the rescue, and I think this duo should just casually save the world every day. Refinery29 reports that the artists have collaborated on a duet of Sheeran's hit song "Perfect" that was released on Thursday evening. Spoiler alert: it's pretty darn perfect.

Available on Spotify, TIDAL and iTunes, the duet was initially announced on Sheeran's Instagram earler in the day. Sheeran prefaced the news simply, writing in his post, "Got Beyoncé to duet with me on Perfect."

Got Beyoncé to duet with me on Perfect, comes out today at 7pm ET / 4pm PT / midnight GMT x

A post shared by Ed Sheeran (@teddysphotos) on

While the original version of "Perfect" is already divine, Queen Bey's vocals have literally taken these lyrics to the next level. Coming in after Sheeran opens the song on his own, she helps the song quickly become an even more perfect jam to simultaneously cry and smile over.

Hours after the duet's release, Twitter users didn't hesitate in praising the new version.

According to PEOPLE, Sheeran and Beyoncé have previously sung together and at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival and earlier that year during a tribute to Stevie Wonder.  If this is the kind of magic they produce together, then I'm all for an entire album of duets in the future.

The White House Has Revealed a Tentative Plan to Replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

The White House has created a plan to force Secretary of State Rex Tillerson out of his position and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo within the next few weeks, The New York Times reports.

Senior administration officials said that White House chief of staff John F. Kelly developed the plan and that President Donald Trump has yet to approve it. However, after several reports of Trump's relationship with Tillerson suffering, it is expected that Trump seeks a "change at the State Department." According to the official source that spoke with the Times, the president is surprisingly hesitant to fire his senior staff members, and the public reveal of the plan to axe Tillerson could have been a move to help Trump in making a final decision.

Earlier on Thursday, when asked if Tillerson was "on the job," Trump said, "He's here. Rex is here."

While CNN reports that a source said the reveal of the plan was meant to publicly shame Tillerson, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also danced around the news of Tillerson's possible dismissal. Talking to reporters, she said, "[Tillerson and Trump] were sitting here in a meeting today working hard to carry out the president's agenda."

However, Sanders also revealed in her press briefing that "when the President loses confidence in someone, they will no longer serve in the capacity that they're in."

Trump and Tillerson have previously clashed over issues such as the U.S.'s relationship with North Korea and the Iran nuclear deal, and the possible hiring of Pompeo could present a more united front between Trump and the State Department.

4 Things Admissions Officers Are Looking for in Your Interview

Your applications are in, you’re eagerly awaiting acceptances and you’ve even landed an interview or two ––you’re off to a great start! But, now that your interviews are just around the corner, you may be wondering what admissions officers are really looking for. Do you need an extensive resume? Should you have facts about the school memorized? We talked to Lauren Herskovic, chief operating officer at Admissionado, to find out what exactly college admissions officers are looking for in your interview.

Before you freak out, take some words of advice from Herskovic. “The truth is, the interview is not always with an admissions committee member,” she says. “In some (or many!) cases, it is with an alum and, oftentimes, a recent alum. That should instantly make you feel a little less stressed about the whole thing. But even if you are speaking directly to someone on admissions, the interview will not be as scary as you’re imagining it to be.” College admissions interviews exist so the admission committee can get to know you better ––so relax, and read up on what you should know.

1. Have some knowledge about the school

It goes without saying that if you’re interviewing for a school, you should know at least a few basics about it. Know what program you’re interested in, when the school was founded and maybe even a fun fact or two!

“You don't want to go in there, sit down and start spewing off stats and figures about the school just to prove you've done your homework,” Herskovic says. “But, if you happen to know things about the school (and we're talking much more specifically than what you can find on the school's website), you can work those things into the conversation naturally.” She suggests asking questions about a specific program or working your excitement about a specific professor into one of your answers. Showing the admissions officer you’re passionate about the school will help you stand out among a sea of interviewees.

2. Connect with your interviewer

It’s key to bond with the person who’s interviewing you. If you act detached and uninterested, it’s not going to go well. You want to show them you’re serious about going there! “They want to like you and to actually see you on campus,” Herskovic says. “If that happens, they’re going to fight for you.” Make sure you’re being authentic and engaging in conversation.

Herskovic suggests doing some research on your interviewer, asking questions and just relaxing! “And by the way, if the conversation flows away from the topics you were expecting to discuss (your resume, your transcript, the school, the books you've read in the past month, etc.), that's okay,” she says. It’s actually a good thing, so just let it happen!

3. Show who you really are

The interviewer know what you look like on paper, but what about in real life? In the interview room, show off what you couldn’t on your application or resume.

“The interviewers know that your application and essays probably went through 10,000 iterations before it got to them,” Herskovic says. “So, now it’s their chance to see who you are on the fly and to get to know you as a person.” The interviewer also wants to know you were being truthful in your application. Be mature and honest, and you’ll be in the clear.

“They want to see what kind of roommate you will be (for real, this is something Harvard interviewers specifically look for), what kind of perspective you will bring to campus, and how you'll interact with the diverse student body,” Herskovic says. “ Don't try and be someone that you are not. If something makes you laugh, laugh. If you're really passionate about something they ask about, speak passionately about it.” Don’t hide who you are! It’s going to hurt your interview experience.

4. Be authentic

Don’t try and use SAT words in a sentence. “They know you are a 17-year-old student with big dreams, some fun interests and an obsession with Snapchat,” Herskovic says. “You should not try to put on airs to impress anyone. Not only will they see right through it, but that’s not what they want!” Just be yourself!

Herskovic says that the best interviews are natural conversations. “It’s more of a chat between two people than a Q&A session,” she says. “So, yes, you should absolutely prepare (including coming up with some questions of your own that you’d like to ask!), but don’t memorize answers or, worse, your resume.” Be polished, confident and well-mannered, but not robotic.

As we said earlier, the interviewer simply wants to get to know you! Remember, it’s a conversation between person A and person B. Take a deep breath and relax ––we know you’re going to kill it, collegiette!

HC Wake-Up Call: Part of the East Coast Experiences an Earthquake, Undocumented Immigrant Found Not Guilty in 2015 Shooting of a Woman & Applebee's to Sell $1 Long Island Iced Teas This Month

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits the U.S. East Coast

Just as hurricane season has winded down, a surprise but small earthquake hit a portion of the American Northeast on Thursday afternoon. The Huffington Post reports that the earthquake originated near Dover, Delaware, and was also felt in parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The New York Times additionally says that the quake was felt as far south as Virginia, covering an area of the United States that rarely experiences earthquakes. Registering as a 4.1 magnitude event, the earthquake reportedly caused no injuries or noticeable damage.

An Undocumented Immigrant Is Not Guilty in 2015 Shooting of a Woman

CNN reports that a jury has found undocumented immigrant Jose Ines Garcia Zarate not guilty in the July 2015 death of Kate Steinle. Originally charged of murder and involuntary manslaughter, Garcia Zarate became a key name in the discussion surrounding the country's immigration policy when he shot Steinle with a .40-caliber handgun in San Francisco in 2015. While prosecutors argued that he intentionally shot the victim, his defense lawyer argued that the act was accidental.

The jury's choice has caused mixed reactions. While the House of Representatives passed "Kate's Law," a ruling on increased maximum prison penalties for immigrants repeatedly entering the States illegally, earlier this year, many conservatives have cited San Francisco being a sanctuary city for the trial's outcome. "When jurisdictions choose to return criminal aliens to the streets rather than turning them over to federal immigration authorities, they put the public's safety at risk," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement.

While Garcia Zarate was found guilty on murder charges, he was still convicted for "being a felon in possession of a gun,"The Hill says. After being deported five previous times, U.S. immigration officials have said that they will begin the deportation process for Garcia Zarate again.

Applebee's Will Offer $1 Long Island Iced Teas All December Long

We know that Applebee's is probably a go-to place for you and your hometown friends over the holidays, and now there's an even greater reason to hit up the restaurant chain this December. Delish reports that after the the fall promotion of Applebee's $1 margaritas, the restaurant will now sell $1 Long Island Iced Teas, or a Dollar L.I.T., for the entire month of December. "The Dollar L.I.T is kind to your pocket book and a great drink to share with old friends and new ones this holiday season," said Applebee's vice president of beverage innovation Patrick Kirk in a press release. Say no more, I'm there.

Michael Flynn Pleads Guilty To Lying To The FBI & Here's How We Got Here

President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the FBI about conversations with Russia's ambassador, CNN reports.

The single charge is in relation to discussions Flynn made in late 2016 during the transition period between President Donald Trump’s Election Day victory and his inauguration on January 20, 2017. NPR reports that Flynn spoke with the, “Russian ambassador to the U.S. about sanctions the Obama administration had just imposed on Russia and about a U.N. Security Council resolution.”

These charges are apart of a string of investigations led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and his team, and the first charge from Mueller to hit the current White House administration directly.

President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gate were indicted last month, they both pled not guilty. While President Donald Trump’s campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulous pleaded guilty for making a false statement to the FBI over contacts with officials connected to the Russian government. Making Flynn the fourth member of President Donald Trump’s administration to be charged before his first year of office is complete.

Michael Flynn resigned from his position as national security adviser in February of 2017 amidst President Donald Trump asking him, "after he misled Pence and then-chief of staff Reince Priebus about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak in which they discussed US sanctions against Russia," according to CNN. The 58-year old retired general claimed the highest rank in the Army over the course of three decades and found himself playing a vital role in the Trump administration's national security and foreign policy decisions for the brief time he was there.

On the heels of Flynn's departure and Mueller’s investigation heating up, more information regarding Flynn and his ties to Russia slowly came to light. The New York Times reported that in 2015, he was paid to attend a dinner in Moscow where he was seated at the same table as Russian President Vladimir V. Putin. The New York Times also reports that Flynn was, “ an intense and vocal advocate of closer relations with Putin, arguing that the United States must work with the Russians to battle extremists.” Upon his appointment Flynn, only emphasized this more.

While the extent to which Flynn holds ties to Russia is still coming to light, ABC News reported that, "Flynn promised full cooperation to the Mueller team and is prepared to testify that candidate Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians."

The maximum possible sentence Flynn could face is five years in prison. The White House has declined to make any immediate comments.
