Here's What Sterling K. Brown Would've Said in His Emmys Speech if He Hadn't Been Cut Off

Sterling K. Brown won an Emmy last night for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for This Is Us. However, Emmy producers decided that his acceptance speech was taking a little too long, so the orchestra played louder and louder until Sterling was basically forced to leave the stage. He didn’t let that stop him from finishing his speech, though.

According to TVLine, Brown picked up right where he left off once he made it to the press room backstage. “I wanted to thank our writers. A show doesn’t get seven acting nominations without some impeccable, beautiful, thoughtful writing. You guys are our life’s blood. So I want to thank you so much. To our producers and our directors, in particular John Requa, Glen Ficarra and the crazy cool Ken Olin, thank you for your guidance and friendship. And I want to thank Dan Fogelman. He is the Hebrew hammer with which our house is built. He makes me laugh and cry in equal parts, and keeps me coming back for more. In his own little, small special way, he’s not trying to make America great again, he’s trying to make it the best that it’s ever been. I love him for taking me on this journey. I wanted to thank my manager of 17 years, Jennifer Wiley-Stockton. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and it feels like we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Sterling also thanked his family. “To my wife—they cut me off before I got to thank my wife. You’re everything. You make my life worth living, and you gave me two of the most beautiful things that God has ever put on this planet, my sons… Daddy loves you with the strength of a thousand suns. I’ll see you Monday after work. Love you.”

Props to Sterling for being an extremely gracious winner and recognizing the amazing people in his life. Now that’s an acceptance speech—whether it happened onstage or off.

Everything You Need To Know About The Graham-Cassidy Bill, The Last Attempt to Repeal Obamacare

Senate Republicans are trying one last time to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with the Graham-Cassidy Bill, according to The Chicago Tribune —and they reportedly wantsto expedite the process since the Senate only has until September 30 in order to be able to pass budgetary legislation with a simple majority vote.

The Graham-Cassidy Bill (sponsored by Senators Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy, Ron Johnson and Dean Heller) would replace ACA’s tax subsidies with block grants, stop the individual insurance mandate and scale back its Medicaid expansion, Politico reports. In addition, the block grants would allow states to fund health insurance programs outside of ACA mandates, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The bill would essentially significantly limit the federal government’s role in the healthcare system. And it needs at least 50 votes to pass.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and GOP leadership are now trying to determine if they will have enough votes for the September 30 deadline, because if the deadline is not met, Senate Republicans will need 60 votes to pass it and that would make it significantly harder to pass,  The Chicago Tribune reports.

GOP leadership will gauge whether they have the necessary votes in a series of private meetings this week with the help of the White House to ensure that the party won’t have a repeat of their last failed attempt in July to repeal and replace when John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski voted no on a slimmed-down repeal bill, according to Capitol Hill and White House sources.

“McConnell would like something to pass. But he also knows that getting 50 to vote for that is a challenge,” said a Republican aide, according to Politico. “They show him it has 50, he'll schedule a vote.”

Senate Republicans realize the tremendous pressure that they are under to perform, especially since President Trump has pushed to get Congress to repeal ACA. A White House official told Politico that Trump is expected to "keep pushing" for some sort of "repeal and replace."

However, Senate Republicans are cautious about this latest attempt. McCain, who voted no for the repeal in July, said he supports the bill in theory but cautioned Republicans against “[ramming] through our proposal” with a party-line vote, The Chicago Tribune reports.

“Why did Obamacare fail? Obamacare was rammed through with Democrats' votes only. ... That's not the way to do it. We've got to go back. If I could just say again, the way to do this is have a bill, put it through committee,” McCain said on CBS's “Face the Nation.”

As of this point, Senator Rand Paul has already announced that he is a “no” vote, Politico reports. “I can't support a bill that keeps 90% of Obamacare in place,” Paul tweeted. Cassidy replied to Paul, stating that the bill “repeals entire architecture of Obamacare & gives Kentucky control over its own health care.” According to Politico, despite not having made her final decision yet, Republicans believe Collins also won’t vote for the bill, which means that Graham-Cassidy cannot lose any more votes.

Democrats have since taken to social media to slam the bill and encourage ACA supporters to call their representatives.

“The Graham-Cassidy @SenateGOP 'health care' bill IS Trumpcare, & it will rip health care away from millions of Americans,” Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote on Twitter.

FreedomWorks, a grassroots organization committed to fighting for lower taxes and less government, has partially endorsed the bill and consider it a final move against ACA.

“It’s not the repeal of Obamacare that was promised,” said Jason Pye, FreedomWorks' Legislative Affairs Vice President. “Nevertheless, FreedomWorks is treating it as what is likely to be the last serious attempt to reform Obamacare.”

A Cornell Student Was Arrested for an Alleged Hate Crime After Beating a Black Student

Ithaca police are currently investigating a possible hate crime after a black Cornell University student was beaten and sent to the hospital following a fight on Friday morning. The victim was allegedly repeatedly called a derogatory term, according to The Cornell Daily Sun.

The student, who is a junior at Cornell University, spoke to The Sun from Cayuga Medical Center about the altercation, where it was being determined if the victim had suffered a concussion. According to The Sun, the student was walking home on Eddy Street in Collegetown around 1 am on Friday when he arrived to a group of approximately five white men fighting with and shoving his friends, and asked the individuals to leave the property. As the group was leaving, they began to call the victim derogatory terms and shouted expletives at him. When the victim confronted them, according to The Sun, the men turned back and punched the victim repeatedly in the face.

Following the incident, members of the victim's fraternity wrote in a statement that he was "currently recovering and is thankful for the kind words of support and calls for justice from the greater Cornell community. We ask that everyone respect his privacy at this time."

According to Syracuse.com, the police arrived at the scene at 1:38 am, and officers reported that there wasn’t any significant injuries from the altercation. Ithaca Police have since arrested one individual and charged them with one count of assault in the third degree, according to The Sun.

Ryan Lombardi, Vice President for Student and Campus Life at Cornell, sent an email to all students to confirm the altercation and arrest, stating that those involved in the altercation might have belonged to a fraternity (reported to be Psi Upsilon fraternity) that is not officially recognized by Cornell University, Syracuse.com reports. The university has since launched an investigation.

“Pending the outcome of the investigation, the students responsible will be sanctioned and the ability of the fraternity to return to campus will no longer be considered,” Lombardi said.

Following the attack, Cornell University's Black Student Union (BSU) questioned whether black students were safe on campus and in Collegetown, according to Syracuse.com.

“What eludes this campus is true equality among students of color and their white counterparts, impeded by superficial conversations about modern racial politics at a predominantly and historically white university,” the Black Student Union said.

The group has also reportedly declared "a state of emergency for black students,” according to the Sun and wrote a warning for black students to avoid Interfraternity Council or Panhellenic Council parties out of concern for their safety.

This Year's Emmy Wins Were Historic in More Ways Than One

Representation and diversity at Hollywood award shows is lacking, but at Sunday night's Emmy Awards, there were several historic wins. While we still have a long way to go, people of color and women made history in more ways than one.

TVLine reports that Atlanta creator and star Donald Glover became the first black person in the ceremony's 69 years to win an Emmy for directing a comedy. Additionally, Lena Waithe became the first black woman to win for comedy writing, and The Night Of’s Riz Ahmed became the first Asian man to win an Emmy for acting.

And while Reed Morano and Sterling K. Brown weren't the first woman or black man to win their categories, it has been a while. Morano, who won for directing an episode of The Handmaid's Tale, was the first woman in 22 years to win the directing in a drama series category. Brown was the first black man in 19 years to take the lead actor in a drama series statue home.

Shows about women won big, too. All three series awards went to shows about women. The Handmaid’s Tale won best drama series, Veep won best comedy series, and Big Little Lies won best limited series.

I love hearing about these inspiring wins, and I hope to see even more representation in the industry and at award shows in the future.

7 Things to Know Before Becoming a Big in Your Sorority

$

If you’ve always dreamed of mentoring other women, becoming a big in your sorority is a great way to do so. Getting a little is an idealized part of Greek life—you get to grow your family, wear matching shirts and find someone to be in all your Instagram photos with you. But it’s so much more than that as well—you’re gaining a lifelong friend who looks up to you for advice, who will indulge in late night fun with you and who may even be in your wedding one day.

You should be over the moon about becoming a big in your sorority, but here are seven things to know beforehand.

1. Most women pick up a little one year after they join the sorority

It’s common that if you joined in the fall of your freshman year, you will get a little during the fall of your sophomore year. This depends on the size of your chapter and if there are any upperclassmen above you who do not yet have a little. Jillian James, a junior at the University of Central Florida, says she became a big exactly one year after she joined her sorority, which she thinks is the perfect amount of time. It’s good to be in the sorority for a while so you know the ins and outs to give advice to your little.

But if you have a busy fall quarter, you can always wait another year or cycle. Timing is everything; if you become a big, you’ll have to attend more events that quarter, such as crafting nights, dropping off gifts to your little and big/little reveals. If you don’t have any time to spare, it might be best to wait.

2. Being a big means being a mentor

Big/little relationships aren’t just for social media. You’re there to impart words of wisdom to your little, whether it’s about relationships, classes or Greek life. “Being a big means being a mentor and you want to make sure that you are able to provide information and advice to your little and that you know the ins and outs of how your sorority chapter works,” Jillian says. Her little has turned to her for career and professional advice, and Jillian was even able to help her find an internship.

“In order to be a good big, you should genuinely care about your little and want to be a mentor,” Jillian says. “You have to step up and be a good role model and exhibit positive behavior. You want to be someone who is knowledgeable about your school, your sorority and campus involvement. Simply put, you want to help make your little into the best version of herself by providing support and advice whenever she needs it!” Basically, you'll need to be there for your little sister.

3. It’s on you to plan outings with your little

Being a big requires a lot of effort, and you should decide if you’re willing to put in the time alongside your hectic course load. “I’m usually not the kind of person to reach out to others when I want to hang out. But before I signed up to be a big and at the beginning of the year, I kept telling myself that I need to be the one to ask her to hang out, and it’s my responsibility to check in with her and put in the work to show her that I like her and care about her,” says Mackie Lorkis, a junior at UCLA.

You know you’re meant to be a big if this sounds fun to you—hanging with your little isn’t a chore! Since Jillian got her little, they have done a lot of fun things together, which helped them get close. They went to theme parks, visited a farmer’s market and explored new restaurants in Florida.

I love going on coffee dates with my little to check out all the different cafes in our college town. It’s a great chance to have deep conversations over coffee without going too far off campus.

4. You should build a real relationship

Like any good friendship, a big/little relationship means you need to maintain your friendship and keep in touch. It’s not a one-time thing where you get a little, give her gifts, hang out once and never speak again. To really get the most out of the opportunity, become genuine friends.

“I try to just check in with her, ask her how her classes and boys are and we get dinner or watch movies together,” Mackie says. “I just want to build a relationship where she can ask me for advice or to hang out a lot and, for next year, be a cool older friend with an apartment.” There are a lot of perks to being the cool big sis, after all.

5. Creativity will make it even more fun

In my sorority, we welcome littles with a basket of goodies about our chapter. The sisters help make crafts and decorate items to give to the littles—everything from picture frames to cards to cute puns on candy bars. Although you definitely don’t need to be creative to get a little, it will make the experience a lot more fun if decorating ceramic mugs or making scrapbooks is your thing. I personally loved it, and sharing my handmade items with my little was extra special and meaningful.

6. Being a big can get expensive

Cost is another factor that you should think about before picking up a little in your sorority. Littles often get showered with gifts, and some of those could come out of your pocket. If you have a tight budget this semester, it might be better to wait until the next pledge class to become a big.

“In my sorority we have a ‘clue week’ where you have someone drop off a basket everyday to your little that is filled with presents. Clue week can cost anywhere from $50 to $200 in my sorority. Additionally, you must also order matching shirts for your entire line for big/little reveal day,” Jillian says.

Even after big/little reveals, you still might be putting in money to be a good big. I once ordered matching necklaces on Etsy for my two littles and myself. It wasn’t required but I love them, and I thought matching jewelry would be cute. However, you can also get sorority paraphernalia that's passed down from graduating seniors. So even if you don't have a big budget to spend on your lil sister, someone else in your sorority family might have clothing or fanny packs to pass on. But if you become a big, consider how much money you’re willing to spend on the experience.

7. You should be into it

Remember that getting a little is probably a bigger deal to your little than to you, since it’s likely her first week at college and she wants to feel like she belongs. Make that happen for her and show her how much you care. Mackie says the best bigs are kind, nonjudgmental and excited.

“I felt bad when some of the littles got no presents or late presents, when everyone else had theirs. And if you act like you’re too cool to do things, you’ll probably make her feel bad if she wants to do them. So just be like into things and be happy and excited,” Mackie says.

Jillian has the right attitude about her little. She says, “I wanted to be a big because it’s a very unique opportunity to help someone navigate college life and have a special connection with someone. It gives you the opportunity to make a positive impact on someone’s life.”

Getting a lil sis is so much fun, because you can really be there for another college woman like yourself. Get into it and enjoy it.

4 American Study Abroad Students Are Being Treated for Burns After Being Sprayed With Acid in France

Four Boston College students are recovering and treated for burns after being sprayed with acid at a train station in Marseille, France on Sunday, The New York Times reports.

The college juniors, three of whom were participating in Boston College's Paris study abroad program, were traveling from Marseille to Paris and were waiting for their train when their attacker threw hydrochloric acid on them. Two of them were injured while the other two women reportedly were able to escape without injury.

According to police, the incident, which was carried out by a 41-year-old female attacker with a "psychiatric history" and no history of extremism, is not being investigated as an act of terrorism. She was quickly arrested at the scene and did not try to flee, French newspaper La Provence reported.

In a Facebook post, Michelle Krug, one of the victims of the attack, wrote, "To fill in those who have not heard, three of my friends and I were attacked this morning at a Marseille train station by a woman suffering from a mental illness," Krug said. "She threw a weak solution of hydrochloric acid at us from a water bottle, which got in one of my eyes and one of my friend's eyes. We were all treated at a local hospital and are anticipating a quick recovery."

Krug added, "Please consider thinking about/praying for our attacker so that she may receive the help she needs and deserves. Mental illness is not a choice and should not be villainized."

Thankfully, despite the awful incident, it sounds like all four women are remaining positive and will recover quickly.

16 Reasons Why It's Never Too Early to Obsess Over Halloween

$
0
0

It's never too early to start obsessing over Halloween. We all know you've been searching for the perfect Halloween costume on Pinterest since last November, and here are 16 reasons why that's totally okay.

1. Costumes are a year-round thing

Anyone who says otherwise is probably lying or boring.

2. Candy is also a year-round thing

If candy is associated with Halloween and people eat candy all year, we already celebrate at least one aspect of Halloween all year.

3. Thinking of the perfect Halloween costume takes time

You have to get in the total Halloween spirit before you can choose the best costume.

4. You aren’t about to spend money on decorations that will only be up for a week

You're not going to build an elaborate haunted house for just one day. You have to buy the spooky decorations early.

5. Halloween makeup tutorials can provide useful tips any time of year

Spooky makeup is always cool.

6. One night is not an adequate amount of time for all of the great things associated with Halloween

Psh. Ridiculous.

7. Christmas music gets all the credit, but Halloween music is just as fun

Stores play Christmas music for months, so it seems completely appropriate to listen to Halloween songs at the beginning of September.

8. It allows you to feel young(ish) again

Can't people just let you have fun every so often?

9. Going to haunted houses helps you take your mind off of other scary things like grad school apps

People think goblins are just for October, but they also think worrying about deadlines and student debt are acceptable all the time. Hmm...

10. It’s another great excuse to have a party

I'll take any excuse I can get.

11. Jack-O-Lanterns are just plain cool

Who doesn't love them?

12. It’s been too long since you’ve had a reason to be festive

Look, the last holiday I actually celebrated was like months ago for Fourth of July. TOO LONG.

13. Halloween means Mean Girls is relevant

Dressing up as an animal is so basic yet also iconic.

14. Waiting until October to enjoy cute Halloween snacks and pumpkins is unreasonable

It's clearly already time for caramel apples.

15. You just want to make the most of every situation…and sometimes that means celebrating early

Halloween parties are the wildest parties, because of the ~anonymity~

16. Because you can

Why not?

Chris Pratt Had Only the Sweetest Things to Say About Anna Faris's Emmys Appearance

While we were all heartbroken back in August after adorable AF celeb couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced they were separating, we can at least take comfort in the fact that they clearly still love and respect each other.

A post shared by chris pratt (@prattprattpratt) on

Proof? Chris opened up about Anna for the first time since their separation and he had nothing but sweet, super kind things to say about her. Following Anna's appearance at the Emmys as a presenter, Chris, who was out elsewhere in L.A. that night, was asked by a TMZ paparazzo about his former wife's first major appearance since their separation. To say there are no hard feelings would be an understatement.

"I know she did great. Anna did an amazing job, man. She rules. Her and Allison, they both looked great," he told TMZ, referring to Anna's co-presenter Allison Janney. He even offered up a shoutout to her show. "Go watch Mom on CBS," he added.

While my heart is still shattered, it will (eventually) go on knowing that while they're no longer together, there's no bad blood between the two of them.

What College Women Think of Being Called 'Baby'& Other Pet Names

$

Once upon a time, Shakespeare poetically pondered, “What’s in a name?” And you know what, we thought that was a great question, but not about just any name: pet names. That’s right, we wanted to ask the not-so age-old question, “What’s in a pet name?” or maybe more accurately, “What do other collegiettes think of pet names?” So we set out to discover what college women really think about pet names by conducting an informal survey of 40 collegiettes. And what we found low-key surprised us.

Babe and baby

Two of the more controversial pet names are “babe” and “baby.” We found that a lot of collegiettes don’t like being called either. Mariel Tishma, a senior at Columbia College Chicago, says she understands that some people don’t like these names because of their “infantilizing undertones.” In our survey, some other collegiettes express the same feelings. But more women, it seems, are okay with babe over “baby,” mostly because “baby” can come off as demeaning, even if that wasn’t intended. More than any other pet names, “babe” and “baby” are the most widely disliked by collegiettes. So maybe go for something sweet and classic, something like…

Darling, sweetheart and honey

Collegiettes like these three more traditional pet names way more than “babe” and “baby.” The thing is, they generally prefer their partner to use just one of them. Some collegiettes said they find these sweeter nicknames a little too cutesy if they are called all them at different times. Overall, though, the majority of college women think these nicknames are cute.

Personalized names/Your name

On our pet names quest, the most surprising thing we found was that a lot of women prefer to be called by their given name or by a nickname special to their particular relationship. Katia Davis, a senior at the University of Kentucky, says she prefers when her SO calls her by her name over a pet name.

“While I do like pet names, nothing is more heartwarming to me or serious than when he called me by my name,” she says. “It just feels so intimate when he says something like ‘I love you, Katia’ opposed to ‘I love you, baby.’"

Beyond that, though, some collegiettes’ SOs call them by a unique pet name that is sweet because it came from an inside joke or a special moment between them. Some of the most interesting pet names we found were “turtle duck,” “cabbage patch kid” and “honey bunches of oats.” When you’re in a relationship, it shouldn’t matter how different or obscure the pet name might seem, as long as it makes you happy.

So what did we learn here? We learned that “baby” is controversial, sweet pet names, like sweets themselves, should be used in moderation and that some of the best pet names are some of the most unusual. More importantly, we’ve learned that at the end of the day, most collegiettes are not picky about what pet name(s) their SO calls them, as long as she does not consider the name or her SO’s tone when using the name offensive. Jenna Price, a sophomore at East Carolina University, said it best:

“I [have] realized something,” she says. “I never really cared what [my past SOs] were calling me (as long as it wasn't disrespectful). I more so cared about the way they said it. It's all about the inflection in their voice. When someone you love calls you bae, you might role your eyes, but if it's the right person you'll be okay with it.

And that, friends, is what is in a pet name. Shakespeare would be so proud (and probably a little confused by by the word “bae.” Us too, Shakespeare, us too.)

A Student Brought a Blatantly Racist Sign to a High School Pep Rally & It's as Bad as It Sounds

There are some things you really just shouldn't share on social media, like embarrassing pictures from the last frat party you attended — or, if you're Robertsdale High School student Harley Powell, the blatantly racist sign you made for your high school's pep rally.

Refinery29 reports that Robertsdale High School in Alabama is looking into a student who somehow thought it was a good idea to bring a racist sign to a pep rally that read, "Put the 'Panic' back in Hispanic." Harley Powell, the student who made the sign, posted a photo to Instagram of her holding it and standing next to a friend holding a "Trump: Make America Great Again" sign. It's exactly as cringe-y and awful as it sounds.

Powell's account has since been deleted, but screenshots of her post have gone viral after another student at Robertsdale High School called her out for the sign on Facebook.

"This happened yesterday at our school pep rally," Jennifer Lopez Vazquez's Facebook post reads. "They know it's Hispanic Month. That's very disrespectful in so my ways. But it's funny to think that our school thinks it 'OKAY.' This is Honestly what white trash looks like."

In a statement, Eddie Tyler, the superintendent of the school district that oversees Robertsdale High School, said that the district is aware of the sign and investigating the matter. "We are aware of a photo that appears to be taken at a Robertsdale High School football pep rally Friday Sept. 15 that is circulating on social media containing political banners and unacceptable language," Tyler said. "School administrators, as well as my office, are following up on the matter."

Meanwhile, a lawyer for one of the students in the photo is claimingthat it was nothing but a joke that got out of hand. *Heavy side eye*

"This is a kind of sophomoric joke that's kind of just gotten out of control," Domingo Soto told NBC News 15

Joke or no joke, shouldn't it be obvious that, considering the fact that the rights of immigrants are more threatened than ever, this is under exactly zero circumstances funny whatsoever?

11 Throwback Halloween Costumes Every ’90s Girl Will Love

Everyone loves a #tbt, and even though Halloween this year is on a Monday, it’s still the perfect chance for an old-school reference as a costume. Here are some Halloween costumes every ’90s girl will love!

1. Lizzie McGuire

Lizzie McGuire is too classic not to be your Halloween costume! If only your closet was as cool as hers back in the day. All you need are some super-bright, patterned bell-bottom pants and an equally vibrant top. Crimp your hair (if you still own one of those ancient artifacts), throw on a thick headband, and you’re good to go. You can even get two friends to join you as Gordo and Miranda because where would Lizzie be without her awesome sidekicks?

2. The Powerpuff Girls

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These little girls were kicking butt back in the ‘90s and still dealing with all the troubles of being a kid (how old were they actually?).

These costumes couldn’t be easier. All you need are some white tights, some black shoes, and a pink, green or blue dress. You can fashion a black belt out of felt, and you’re ready to fight crime and the forces of evil!

3. Rugrats

These babies were the ultimate tight-knit crew and will make the perfect Halloween costume for a group. Just put together some makeshift diapers out of towels or fabric. If you dress up as Chuckie, you’re gonna need to get a wig for his classic hairdo. However, for everyone else, all you really need is a bald cap, a bow or pigtails. You can decorate oversized shirts with felt in the appropriate patterns. You can even bring bottles with you if you so choose. Who runs the world? Babies.

4. Saved by the Bell

Going out as the Bayside crew is also a great option. It’s all about bright patterns, big shoulder pads, and even bigger hair. Hit up Goodwill for some oversized sweaters, mom jeans, and tank tops. The tighter and higher the pants, the better. If you can find an old-school cellphone, you may be in the running for best throwback costume of the weekend.

5. The Rocket Power Gang

If you have a group and are trying to be a total skater bro all night, this is the costume for you. Otto needs some crazy hair, a headband, a yellow shirt and red shorts. Reggie needs a purple wig (or temporary hair dye), a magenta shirt with a yellow rocket decal attached and camo pants. Twister needs a white shirt with a blue tank layered over it and khaki cargo shorts. Squid needs an oversized yellow shirt with a red “N” on it, glasses, jeans and a makeshift shark helmet. Your group is gonna be riding around the streets with the ultimate old-school swag.

6. Mario Kart

This is another fun group costume. You and your friends can dress up as your favorite characters. Overalls, appropriately colored T-shirts, hats and a mustache work for Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. Try a pink dress for Princess Peach or a yellow dress for Princess Daisy along with tiaras if you want. And Toad just needs a toadstool hat and a blue shirt. You can basically turn any of the characters into a costume!

Each of you then can paint your own box “car” with balloons attached, and you’re ready to hit the speedways this Halloween.

7. Spice Girls

People of the world, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE… with this Halloween costume! You have your choice between Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice and Posh Spice. Make sure to wear some serious platform shoes. Then, follow each of the girls’ style. Scary Spice requires the signature crazy hair and some sort of animal-print dress. You can’t be Baby Spice without the pigtails. Sporty is the comfiest with her athletic gear (swishy pants and a crop top not optional). Ginger Spice always rocks the Union Jack dress, and Posh should have a tight, short LBD.

8. Britney Spears throughout the ages

It’s Britney, b*tch. The pop princess will give you multiple options for costumes, whether you want to go solo or as a group.

“…Baby One More Time” is always a crowd-pleaser. All you need are braided pigtails, a tied-off cardigan and button down, a schoolgirl skirt, high socks and Mary Janes. If you can somehow find a red latex bodysuit, you’ve got a solid costume for “Oops!... I Did It Again.” Whatever you decide on, don’t forget a fake headset and a lot of sass.

9. Legends of the Hidden Temple

This may actually be the simplest costume ever! We all loved Legends of the Hidden Temple; the only thing we wanted more than to be on this game show was to get slimed.

For this costume, you need the shirt in the appropriate colors with your chosen symbol stapled on the front. Then, throw on a helmet and some knee and elbow pads. As a refresher, the teams were the Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes. But let’s be real, the Blue Barracudas were the best.

10. Troll Dolls

When’s the last time you saw a Troll doll? Seriously, think back to those naked little dolls that fell somewhere between creepy and cute.

This is such an easy costume; all you need is a nude leotard or dress. Pull your hair up around a water bottle stationed on top of your head. Load up on the hairspray, throw on some temporary hair dye and you’re a troll doll! It’s as simple as that. And when else would you get to parade around looking completely naked? Answer: basically never, unless you’re at a nudist colony.

11. Romy and Michele

This movie was a classic! If you can scrounge up some metallic dresses, you’re seriously so lucky and on your way to costume perfection. Hot-glue a feather boa to the hem of your dress, and you’re ready to take on the ultimate high school reunion this Halloween. Add the most blinged-out jewelry and accessories you can find. A giant cellphone would be a great touch, too.

Whatever you decide, you really can’t go wrong with a throwback costume. Everyone loves a classic, so you’ll be a hit this Halloween!

HC Wake-Up Call: Hurricane Maria, More Sexual Assault Allegations Against Fox News & Your Fave Halloween Candy Is Officially Safe

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds — we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Hurricane Maria Hits Caribbean as a Category 5 Storm

Hurricane Maria made landfall Monday night on the Caribbean with 160 mph winds, making it the record-strongest storm to hit the area, BuzzFeed News reports. Last week, Hurricane Irma left a death toll of 38 people in the region in its wake, and the damage from Maria is expected to be equally devastating. A state of emergency has been declared for the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, allowing the Department of Homeland Security to begin disaster relief efforts in those areas.

Fox News Is in Trouble (Again) Due to Sexual Assault Allegations

Conservative analyst and commentator Scottie Nell Hughes is suing Fox News claiming that the network blacklisted her after she tried to come forward with allegations that anchor Charles Payne raped her. Payne has just returned from a suspension from the network while other sexual harassment claims made against him were investigated. Meanwhile, Fox News already has two strikes against its credibility in these situations — both the network's former chairman Roger Ailes and anchor Bill O'Reilly resigned last year following sexual harassment claims.

Despite What You May Have Heard, Reese's Cups Aren't Going Anywhere

The Internet was losing its collective mind on Monday as a fake story stating that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups will be discontinued by October 2017. If this rumor sounds way too god-awful to be true (although in fairness, 2017 has been kind of rough already), it's because it is. Thankfully, the most important candy combination ever created isn't going anywhere — and besides, if it did, there would be enough riots in the streets to make Reese's bring it back ASAP.

A 'Mad Pooper' Has Terrorized This Colorado Springs Neighborhood For Seven Weeks

Families in a neighborhood in Colorado Springs are reportedly being "terrorized" by a jogger who keeps pausing her workout to squat and poop in broad daylight, according to the Gazettein Colorado Springs. For real.

Police are on the hunt for this athleisure-sporting woman dubbed "the Mad Pooper" after witnesses have confirmed seeing her drop trou and drop a number two in the same community. Several times.

Cathy Budde, the neighbor with the front-row seat to the action, said her kids alerted her to the shitty business and she even exchanged a few words with the woman.

"They are like, 'There's a lady taking a poop!' So I come outside, and I'm like ... 'are you serious?'" Budde told the Gazette. "'Are you really taking a poop right here in front of my kids!?' She's like, 'Yeah, sorry!'"

Budde also said that the "Mad Pooper" leaves her poops behind at least once a week and has been making regular stops outside her house for about seven weeks (though, she said there are plenty of publicly accessible bathrooms in the area.) This decidedly is not what your doctor means when they praise regular bowel movements.

She also told KKTV in Colorado Springs that the jogger comes prepared, typically leaves behind a napkin and absolutely no shame— as it seems no verbal warning, police hunt nor passive-aggressive note seems to sway her from her favorite spot.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said they are actively looking for people who can identify this person, for obvious reasons.

via GIPHY

“It’s abnormal, it’s not something I’ve seen in my career,” a deeply confused Sgt. Jonathan Sharketti of the Colorado Springs Police Department also told KKTV. “For someone to repeatedly do such a thing ... it’s uncharted territory for me.” Same.

While the world can certainly be your toilet if you believe in yourself (and live in the g.d. wilderness), taking your morning call with nature in plain view in a residential neighborhood probably isn't a good look.

21 'Gossip Girl' Style Moments We'll NEVER Forget

The hookups. The on-again, off-again friendships. The excess of money, power and success that could be achieved even after dropping out of college. There are a lot of things we still remember about Gossip Girl, but the one thing we’ll never forget—the fashion! For six seasons, the show’s stars wore ensembles we could only dream of. Now, we’re counting down, in no particular order, our 21 favorite style moments.

1. Every. Uniform. Ever.

Blair and Serena were masters of the Constance uniform. Each putting their own unique spin on the mandatory dress code, they made us all want to be schoolgirls again.

2. Serena’s debut

Ms. van der Woodsen waltzed right back into life on the Upper East Side with an equestrian-inspired outfit that made her the envy of all the friends she had left behind.

3. Jenny, the early years

Let’s just get this out of the way. We still haven’t forgiven Jenny for doing you know what with you know who. Sure, she was cute during the first few seasons, but once grungy Jenny took over all hope was lost for this would-be fashionista.

4. Vanessa (that one time)

Vanessa’s style was admittedly touch-and-go for the majority of her tenure on GG, but this vibrant maxi really popped and left its mark.

5. Themes aplenty

The UES partied. A lot. So whenever those shindigs had a theme we were in for a treat. This Prohibition-style extravaganza was one of our absolute favorites for its sparkly, flapper-esque sheaths.

6. Catwalking

One of Jenny’s creations, this dress’s shape and color certainly stood out among Eleanor’s drab collection.

7. Love me?

This outfit is not so much memorable for its chic factor (not that it isn't chic!), but for the scene it comes from. To say we vividly recall Chuck’s declaration of love to Blair is a major understatement, making this look one we’ll always cherish.

8. Working woman

Blair is an inspiration for many reasons, but her office wardrobe is tops for us. Who knew shorts could be workwear? Actually, we did because, you know, Blair did it.

9. Sheer perfection

We have no words.

10. Vacay or bust

Blair’s Season 2 Hamptons getaway did wonders for her wardrobe—and ours! Suddenly her girly style was more relatable than ever and made us want to pack our bags immediately.

11. Pearls and panels and prints, oh my!

On anyone else, this dress could’ve been overkill. Put it on Serena van der Woodsen, and you’ve got a look that’s museum-worthy.

12. White clothing not optional

We didn’t realize how sophisticated a party could be if you demanded your guests go completely monochromatic. A sea of white outfits made this end-of-summer bash a smashing success, though Chuck left a sore loser. (Three words... eight letters...)

13. We’ll always have the Met steps

We have to give major props to costume designer Eric Daman, who always found a way to make Blair and Serena’s looks complimentary. No matter what the two were wearing or what type of bestie battle they were in, we never had to fear a wardrobe clash.

14. Paris is for hats

When Gossip Girl shot a portion of Season 4 in Paris, we were thrilled beyond belief. The stunning backdrops were even remarkably upstaged by the ladies’ unbelievable style shakeups. Serena in a hat? We thought we’d never see the day, but man was the wait worth it.

15. What to wear to a wedding

There were perhaps too many weddings to count during GG’s run, but no wedding look can match Blair’s pink floral masterpiece. Consider us prepared to dress without worry for all our friends’ upcoming big days.

16. Cutouts galore

Serena was the queen of cutouts, and she totally pulled them off. Especially this one, which she wore to a Sotheby’s auction. It’s not exactly what we thought one might don to attend an auction, but what do we know about fancy rich people functions?

17. Coming out at Cotillion

Season 1’s Cotillion episode gave us two of the most iconic Serena and Blair fashion moments we would ever see on the show. Now what kind of party do we have to go to if we want to dress like this?

18. Serena takes Cali

Remember when Serena moved to California to become a big time movie something or other? If anything, we loved her take on the Cali-girl look.

19. Red all over

No one has ever looked more beautiful than Blair Waldorf did in this moment. Let’s not forget that this dress provided this incomparable visual as well.

20. Wedding belle

This slightly overwhelming Georges Chakra dress wasn’t exactly what we envisioned Serena getting married in... but really, if anybody was going to wear a gilded wedding dress, it would be Serena, wouldn't it?

21. Mrs. Chuck Bass

Blair’s first wedding didn’t quite end up the way she thought it would, but her do-over with Chuck allowed her to skip the traditional white gown for this gorgeous beaded confection. We’ll just be over here drooling now, okay?

Which of these style moments was your favorite, collegiettes? And which did we forget to include?

6 Fun Ways To Stay In Touch With College Friends After You Graduate

$

They say you find your true friends in college, but what happens to the friendship after it’s all over? It’s understandable to lose track of friendships after graduation—life happens, you get caught up in the stress of being officially an adult and sometimes you just forget to check in because you don’t see them every day on campus anymore. However, your friendships don’t have to dwindle away. Here’s a list of fun ways to keep your friendships fun and active, and stay connected with each other after college.

1. Create a group text or GroupMe

The fastest way of communication is by your phone. With today’s technology and smartphones being improved every year, everything is at your fingertips. A great way to keep in touch with your friends from college is creating a group text, an iMessage group, or a group on the GroupMe app. You’ll be able to talk, keep it updated every day and have your friends right at your fingertips. Apps like Instagram and Snapchat also have a group feature where you can send posts (and other posts from other people) to your group chat. And whenever you need some quiet time, utilizing the do not disturb feature on iMessage and turning notifications off on specific apps are easily accessible.

2. Celebrate each other’s birthdays

One big way that friends usually come together is during birthdays. Remembering and celebrating each other on the one day you call your own can become a special thing between friends as well. You can either plan something every year on each other’s birthday, or create a fun gifting tradition. Some ideas could include sending funny birthday cards that everyone signs, making handmade gifts or creating a box or basket full of their favorite things. Starting a birthday tradition will be one that everyone can enjoy and will remember for years.

3. Watch TV shows together

Now that almost everything we watch on TV can be streamed, a fun way to keep your friendship fun is to binge watch your favorite show or something completely new together. If you’re close in location, have a weekly night to come over and watch the show together. Shows that run on cable usually have their own day of the week. Make it a fun night and add food and wine, especially if it’s a TGIT night. If you and your friends are far from each other, have each other on the phone or FaceTime while the show is playing.

4. Create a monthly activity

Having a weekly night to binge watch shows can also be turned into monthly traditions for other activities. Scheduling a wine night or movie night with your friends every month can easily become a tradition that is easy to stay consistent with and plan. Anai Perez, 2017 graduate of St. John’s University says, “My best friends and I all live on opposite sides of the country now that we've graduated (New York, California, Florida and Texas to be exact). We have monthly wine nights via OoVoo where we catch up with each other and we all even drink the same wine.” If you guys are foodies, Sunday brunches at new restaurants are always a fun way to spend time together. Even for the times where everyone is balling on a budget, cooking together at someone’s house or having picnics in a park will still bring everyone together to spend time with one another. For a healthy activity, invite each other to your favorite gym to exercise, a barre class or try doing yoga together.

5. Plan group vacations or make travel plans to visit each other

Adult life after college gets very stressful at times, and if you’re not careful you could work yourself too much. It’s important to take time for yourself to relax and rejuvenate, and why not bring your friends along? A fun way to keep your friendships active is to travel and go on vacations with each other. Plan road trips to see each other or bigger trips out of the country. Make it memorable by taking pictures at every location and printing them out, or making sure to buy a souvenir from each place you go to. Shira Kipnees, 2015 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College says, “We’ll do things like spend New Year’s Eve together (and make it a weekend) at one girl’s apartment and then spend some time in that city and have some fun parties. Another thing some of us do is to plan a once a year reunion in NYC and spend a day or together doing fun things and going out for a meal—this works out well especially when you have a mixed-gender group and is a great way to see each other.” Another fun traveling activity to do together is going to different music festivals. There’s nothing like music to bring people together.

6. Plan to meet up at alma mater events

Even though you and your friends may not see each other everyday, there will always be one mutual place that holds deep in your hearts—your school! Now that you’re a part of the alumni club, getting together to go back to your alma mater can be a special time for all of you. Plan to attend those first football or basketball games of the season together, or make homecoming a big deal by getting dressed up in your school colors and attending the game. There are also alumni events that you and your friends may find interesting to go to together. This is the place where you found each other and formed your friendship. Why not go back and visit together?

Maintaining your friendships after college may be a little harder, but it doesn’t have to be if everyone makes the effort to keep it fun and active. Adding some of these activities into your friendship will definitely keep you connected and may even bring you closer.
