Maggie Gyllenhaal Knows Absolutely Nothing About Taylor Swift's Missing Scarf From 'All Too Well'

Taylor Swift is no stranger to calling out guys who've broken her heart—or people who are holding her accessories hostage. Flash back to "All Too Well" from Red. Remember how everyone thought the song was about Taylor's ex, Jake Gyllenhaal. Though the song is years old, the question still remains: Where the hell is Taylor's scarf?!

It seems like people keep turning to Jake's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for the answer, considering she's mentioned in the lyrics. Taylor sings, "Left my scarf there at your sister’s house / And you've still got it in your drawer even now," which has been following Maggie around for a while now.

On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Tuesday night, Maggie was asked about Tay's scarf once again, and her  response wasn't very helpful. "I never understood why everybody asked me about this scarf," she said. “What is this?” Honestly, Maggie, that's what we want to know.

The actress went on to say that she literally has no clue what's going on. "I am in the dark about the scarf. It’s totally possible. I don’t know. I have been asked this before and I've been like, what are you talking about?" So we may never know the scarf's location…unless the Gyllenhaal family starts rummaging through their closets.

As for Jake, he doesn't seem interested in bringing up his past relationships and has stayed pretty quiet on the issue. When he was  asked about the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer this past spring, he said, "I would love to not talk about my personal life." Damn, looks like we won't get any updates from him either.

Hopefully Taylor doesn't need that scarf anymore. After all, some things are better left in the past.

Zayn Malik Says He & Harry Styles 'Never Really Spoke' While in One Direction, & Now I'm Crying

Don't expect to see Harry Styles and Zayn Malik reunite any time soon. At least that's what Zayn insinuated when he was asked about his former One Direction bandmates in an interview with Us Weekly

When the singer was asked how much he talks to his fellow former 1D members, he said they're on good terms. "We're in touch," Zayn said. "Everything is on a civil level. It's not the way it used to be, obviously, because we were spending 24 hours a day in the band and now we're growing as individual men, but we still check in."

Though this is really nice to hear, when Zayn was pressed on whether he still talks to Harry, his reply wasn't so nice. "To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band. So I didn't really expect that much of a relationship with him." Well, what the heck does that mean?! What could've happened to cause such a divide between Zayn and Harry?

Sorry, 1D fans, but I don't think we're getting an answer to this head-scratcher just yet. Maybe Harry will respond to the obvious shade. Until then, it looks like the "What Makes You Beautiful" days are as good as gone, and we can only reminisce.

FYI This Gentrification Vending Machine Will Never Replace The Bodega

A start-up founded by two ex-Google employees drew a heck-load of criticism on Wednesday morning for angling to replace the mom and pop corner stores (AKA Delis or bodegas) that are neighborhood staples with an app-controlled vending machine that can monitor what people take (and reportedly use its AI robot magic to anticipate what people will need.) They even called it Bodega and, to add insult to injury, there's a cat as their logo.

Rest assured, Twitter was having none of it — given the cultural significance of bodegas in urban areas (particularly for Hispanic people and, more recently Yemeni immigrants), their position as valuable community resources and a gateway of economic opportunity (especially for immigrants.)

TL;DR: Bodegas are a beautiful, irreplaceable part of city culture and history, especially for New Yorkers who will be the first to praise them. For critics of the Bodega app, the erasure of that history (and the lack of consideration put into a product out to "replace them) is extremely messed up.

While Fast Companyreports that the founders said they were not "particularly concerned" about their name — in a business run by two non-Hispanic or Latino men — being considered offensive or appropriative, their critics disagreed.

"We did surveys in the Latin American community to understand if they felt the name was a misappropriation of that term or had negative connotations, and 97% said ‘no,’" Co-founder Paul McDonald told Fast Company in their initial profile. "It’s a simple name and I think it works.”

However, Fast Company noted that some members of the Hispanic community and advocates for the local neighborhood economy took issue — calling to mind existing conversations about gentrification and cultural appropriation

“To me, it is offensive for people who are not Hispanic to use the name ‘bodega,’ to make a quick buck,'” Frank Garcia, the chairman of the New York State Coalition of Hispanic Chamber of Commerce said. “It’s disrespecting all the mom-and-pop bodega owners that started these businesses in the ’60s and ’70s.”

And if those very real economic benefits and the humanity-affirming arguments in defense of the human proprieters bodegas don't sway you (somehow), I raise you: Bodega cats.

These furry pals are responsible for catching rodents, looking regal AF and giving side-eye from atop a throne of Natty Ice cans. They are my heroes and they are there for you. They are also there for head pats, photo-ops and for the late-night morale you so desperately need as you buy three cartons of OJ before sprinting to catch your last train home.

If you can't manage to show some love for the awesome humans running those neighborhood institutions (which, like, come on), do it for the bodega cats.

The 6 Different Professors You'll Have & How to Do Well in Their Classes

$

As many of us move into college this fall, we’ll get immersed back into campus culture celebrating syllabus week and hanging out with old and new friends. However, after your parents drop you off, classes begin much sooner than you might be mentally prepared for. Here’s a list of the types of professors you’ll have in college, and what to do when you meet them.

1. The snooze fest

You'll encounter the boring professor a few times during the first few years of college, mainly due to prerequisite or graduation requirements. Underclassmen typically must take certain classes that don’t necessarily correspond with their major or interests. Nevertheless, some professors acknowledge that and try to make the subject as light as possible—while other professors fall short and teach straight from PowerPoint slides or the textbook with no extra insight. Kendra, a sophomore from Lehigh University, says, "my first semester of college I had to take the most boring class with such a monotone teacher. I had to a have a lot of patience to get through the class." Take it upon yourself to gauge whether the lectures are crucial to receiving an A.

Does this professor take attendance? Is the professor’s monotone voice actually giving out information that will be useful on the next test? Or is he just going on tangents that you can probably skip for now? Still, go to as many classes as possible because mere exposure to the material is better than skipping altogether. Your parents will also appreciate you utilizing the classes they spent hard-earned money on. And you’d be surprised—some teachers even give extra credit to those who show up to class.

2. The hard-to-understand professor

Understanding phosphorylation and protein kinase are hard enough, but factor in a professor with a thick accent, or a professor that whispers in lecture of 200+ students and you’ll be sorry you came to college. Some professors may speed through their lessons leaving you more confused than before you came to class. Before you say something offensive, or consider your institution hell on earth, remember that your professor is trying their best, or what they believe is an effective teaching method. If you can’t understand the lecture, it is their job to help you. Seek assistance during office hours, and try to find the lecture notes online. Usually, professors will post them so students can pay more attention to the lesson rather than trying to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing notes.

Rebecca* a junior at Temple University says, “I had a professor with a really thick accent in one of my hardest classes, and I thought I was going to fail. As soon as I voiced my concerns, he helped me out a lot. I also tried to stay ahead in my studies so I was always prepared for the lecture.” Rebecca has the right idea! She looked ahead in the textbook so she could try to follow along, and she reached out when she needed help.

3. The unprepared professor

Sometimes you’ll encounter a professor that is always late, never prepared, and/or downright terrible at teaching. These people will usually push back due dates not only for students but also for themselves to catch up.

Sarah*, a sophomore at Lehigh University, experienced a professor that was a current graduate student and wasn’t the most enthusiastic or prepared to engage in the class. “My professor would come in with an excuse every day why she was late but it just seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I, unfortunately, didn’t learn much, but I still got a good grade,” she says. In these types of classes, try your best to stay on top of the syllabus even when your professor can’t. That way, you’ll have no excuse to fall behind.

4. The professor you came to college for

Most professors love their job and are really passionate about what they teach. Hopefully, your school has screened professors for their effective lectures and their clear public speaking skills. These professors get you excited for class, even if you don’t necessarily like the subject they are teaching. They make you glad you decided to earn a college degree, and you can’t wait to get to know them better. Fortunately, with professors like these, they make it very clear from syllabus week what they expect from their students. Strive to be that kind of student whether that’s turning your homework in on time or staying after class for more in-depth discussions.

5. The self-promoter

It’s equally comical and sad when the only available textbook for your class is sold through the university bookstore at a ridiculous price because they are written by your professor. These professors are trying to showcase their accomplishments and publications to their students, which in this day and age equates to a YouTuber saying “don’t forget to subscribe” at the end of their videos. If you haven’t already done so, make sure to check slugbooks.com to compare multiple textbook prices.

To do well with these professors, it is crucial that you attend their lectures and go to office hours. Because they are the authors of their own textbooks, they have insight where the pages may fall short. Michelle*, a sophomore at Syracuse University, says, “It’s annoying when you have to pay $300 for a textbook your professor wrote, but even more annoying when you don’t take the chance to ask them questions because they are the expert in the material.” If you don’t understand something, what better pro to help you than the author themselves?

6. The one without the curve

These have to be some of the least favorite professors on campus. They teach insanely difficult classes and expect students to perform well on their almost impossible tests.

“I honestly studied every single night for three weeks for this final, and still didn’t do as well as I had hoped. It was heartbreaking and I didn’t get a curve,” says Julia* a sophomore from Lehigh University. I’m sure a lot of students can relate to Julia’s struggles. Sometimes, no matter how intense your study habits can be, the tests and the teacher are just plain difficult.

Students can rally up and proclaim, “you should curve it!” since no one did exceptionally well, but with these professors, they are usually trying to teach a life lesson. Sometimes life does not give you grade curves and you will most likely fail. These teachers aren’t messing around when it comes to failing students, and they want you to know that from the start. Instead of complaining about how unfair this class is, make sure you make that much more of an effort to get sh*t done.

Some way you can get ahead in classes like these is to seek help in writing/math centers. A lot of colleges also offer peer tutoring by students who did well in those difficult classes. You aren't alone in your struggle! It's perfectly normal to need help every now and then. Make sure you also voice your concerns with your TA and/or professor.

As difficult as college can be, you should remember that it’s not impossible. Whether you have the most amazing or the absolute most boring professor, try to make the best of your situation. It’s said that the best students perform well given even the hardest circumstances. You might just learn not only the subject matter but your learning style in general. Good luck!

But when it comes to weekends, Saturdays are all about football season. Here's a list of everything we love to see when we step back onto the tailgate fields and find our seats in the stands of our beloved stadium.

4. The inevitable group of students wearing no shirts and only body paint

5. Over-the-top celebrations from anyone winning at stump, pong or flip cup

Football may be an important game, but in the moment, winning a drinking game at a tailgate is just as satisfying.

13. And you'll definitely see some students pass out before making it into the game

14. Everyone harassing the opposing team with passion

15. School tradition chants every couple of minutes

16. The asshole fans from the other team who try to infiltrate your student section

Our legs may end up sore and our feet may burn, but boy is it worth it to show school spirit.

If there’s anything that students at big universities love about returning to school, it’s the beginning of football season. Nothing says “fall” like a Saturday morning tailgate followed by a day spent at the stadium with your squad. Now, you’ll have a chance to live vicariously through a college football team even in the off season.

The Hollywood Reporterannounced that Amazon has ordered an unscripted series starring the 11-time national championship football team at the University of Michigan this year. Also starring coach Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff, the show plans to feature the team’s practices, games and what life is like in famous college town Ann Arbor.

Harbaugh is extremely popular in the football community, having previously led the San Francisco 49ers to championship games and a Super Bowl series. Under his guidance, the Michigan Wolverines have become a top 10 superpower. The reputable team is sure to provide some fun entertainment, streaming alongside Amazon’s well-received football docuseries All or Nothing.

“We are proud to collaborate with Amazon Prime Video in documenting our University of Michigan student-athletes’ daily experiences and the lifelong lessons learned both on the football field and in the classroom,” Harbaugh said. “We welcome judgment! We embrace this opportunity to showcase our 2017 University of Michigan football team to a vast audience around the world.”

Harbaugh also shared the exciting news on Twitter in case any hardcore Michigan fans missed the announcement.

The series is currently untitled and its premiere date has yet to be determined. Congrats to the University of Michigan for snagging this awesome opportunity!

One Is Dead in a Washington School Shooting After Trying to Stop the Student Gunman

A high school student in Rockford, Washington, brought a rifle and a handgun to school on Wednesday, killing one teen and injuring three others, The Spokesman-Review reports. The gunman, identified as a sophomore student, rode the bus to Freeman High School that morning with the guns in his bag.

Shooting victims are being treated at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where the three injured students are in stable condition. A student who tried to intervene when Sharpe's gun jammed died as a result of his injuries from the shooting. According to NBC News, more students might have been at risk if the weapon hadn’t initially jammed.

Several gunshots broke out on the building’s second floor after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. An eyewitness reported that the shooter looked “completely passive” after the first shot sounded. “He shot someone in the head,” a freshman student told The Spokesman-Review. “I crouched down in the hall...I looked to my right, and there was a boy and he was shot in the head.”

A janitor reportedly tackled the gunman, trapping him until authorities arrived at the school. Meanwhile, other students were locked down in classrooms until school officials and the sheriff’s deputies evacuated them about a half hour after the shooting.

Spokane Country Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich believes that the attack had to do with bullying. "These are senseless and tragic events that really don't need to happen and I don't understand them," he told NBC. "I don't think anybody can make any out of this but we need to figure out what's gone wrong with our society that our children decide that they need to take weapons to deal with the issues that they're facing."

The shooter allegedly hinted at what he would do in notes to friends, writing that he planned to do "something stupid." The Mirror reports that earlier this year, the teen posted a YouTube video in which he simulated a shootout.

Freeman High School has only 327 students, catering to a small town that seems to have never experienced anything quite like this. Following the traumatic shooting, Thursday classes have been cancelled.

"What has happened here is going to affect every child in the district in one form or another," said Rockford Mayor Carrie Roecks. "I hope everyone stays as positive as we can be and the community just surrounds itself with a lot of love because we're going to need it."

The community is already banding together for support. The hashtag "Freeman Strong" has been created for people to offer thoughts and prayers for the victims and other students, while several vigils were held in the area Wednesday night to commemorate the school's losses.

The local impact of the shooting is even evident through authorities' own tweets.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who survived a 2011 assassination attempt, even released a statement on the shooting. "We should never accept these horrific acts of violence as routine," she wrote. "Our children deserve better, which is why we must stand together and call on our nation's leaders to find the courage to take action and keep our children safe."

The shooting suspect was quickly taken into custody once authorities arrived at the school and is currently in a juvenile lockup, waiting to be charged with a crime.

Nancy Pelosi & Chuck Schumer Have a New Deal With Trump to Revamp DACA & Border Security

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have announced that President Donald Trump has agreed to support the legalization of DACA protections, The New York Times reports.

The Democratic leaders released a joint statement Wednesday night detailing a dinner meeting with Trump. "The discussion focused on DACA," the statement read. "We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."

While this news also hints at an end to Trump's mantra to "build the wall" between the U.S.-Mexican border, White House officials responded to the meeting in slightly less optimistic ways. According to CNN, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined the idea that excluding the wall could be an official decision, saying, "While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to."

The White House also released a statement that threw in brief mentions of DACA and border security alongside other important discussion topics. "President Donald Trump had a constructive working dinner with...Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, as well as administration officials to discuss policy and legislative priorities," the statement read. "These topics included tax reform, border security, DACA, infrastructure and trade. This is a positive step toward the president's strong commitment to bipartisan solutions for the issues most important to all Americans. The administration looks forward to continuing these conversations with leadership on both sides of the aisle."

The Times reports that Trump has been "torn" about his decision to end the DACA program, which protects undocumented immigrants who were first brought into the United States as children. The president seems to want bipartisan agreements, which has reportedly surprised his fellow Republicans. According to Politico reporter Rachael Bade, Republican leaders were caught in the headlights when it came to Trump's agreement with Pelosi and Schumer.

The group's meeting was a follow-up to last week's discussion mainly regarding government budgeting. While it's unclear how quickly these bipartisan agreements will fall into place, they're hopefully a step in the right direction for this administration.

7 Things Sorority Girls Won’t Tell You About Being in a Sorority

During the week-long process of sorority recruitment, a Potential New Member (PNM) can talk to around five sisters per house. Conversation topics range anywhere from clichéd banter, such as social events or summer plans, to interesting chatter, like a cool vacation you took or unique hobbies. But regardless of where the discussion goes, there are some things a sorority girl will just never spill to a PNM.

On the outside looking in, the customs of Greek life may seem transparent: socials every week, frat tanks for days and throwing up your sorority’s sign whenever possible. However, there are many aspects you’d only get to know once you join. Check out some of the things sorority girls will never tell you about being in a sorority!

1. Being in a sorority is a huge time commitment

You probably realize you’ll need to participate in events to be an active member, but most sisters won’t reveal just how much time you’ll actually be devoting to the chapter. Most chapters require sisters to acquire a certain amount of points to maintain status as an active member. These points can come from attending socials and mixers, participating in philanthropic activities, going to assigned tailgates for football games or anything that a chapter sees fit. This can add up to hours and hours of activities per week!

“There are weekly chapter meetings, which are mandatory and are two hours on Sunday nights. New Member meetings were Sundays for usually an hour. We attended those for eight weeks until initiation,” says Melanie, a junior at Florida State University and a Phi Mu sister. “During social season we had about one [social] a week, but those weren't mandatory. Anything that is a good representation of the chapter is required, like participating in other chapters' philanthropies or attending intermural games.”

Melanie says that participating in these events is deemed very important. “There is an unspoken obligation and expectation to be involved,” she says. “A lot of the girls didn't realize how much goes into it, but my chapter makes it very easy for you to be as involved or not as you want to be.”

2. The house might have problems

An awesome perk of being in a sorority is always having a place to call home. Whether you live in the house or not, that’s typically the place where meals are served and sisters come to hang out, study, relax and gossip. But these enormous homes are not always as fairy-tale-like as they may seem.

Ashley*, a Cornell sorority alumna, reveals, “Our house had extremely loud pipes when the heat was on. Girls would ask about it, and we would have to make up lies during rush. Also you’d never tell a rushee something like we have to pay for laundry or that we don’t have snacks out constantly like other houses.”

While these white lies might seem unfair, a sister would never want you to base your views of a chapter and its members on the house!

3.You won’t always be so involved

The new member period of joining a sorority is also referred to as the honeymoon period. Everyone you meet is wonderful, every event is the most fun you’ve ever had, you bond with your new sisters during meals and everything about your chapter just couldn’t be more perfect. Not to say any of this isn’t true, but this obsession probably won’t last forever. Between freshman and senior year, you’ll likely tend to start going to fewer and fewer events every semester.

“The majority of the girls aren’t very involved and just go to eat food,” says Emma, a recent graduate and sister of Alpha Chi Omega at Florida State University. “People stop going as often when they get older because they live off campus, so it takes more time and effort. Girls stay active members but won’t participate in socials or date functions because they don’t have the participation points to attend.”

4.There are strict rules (and fines that come with them)

There’s a lot more to sorority life than just mixers and retreats. Most sororities are governed by the National Panhellenic Conference, which has strict guidelines all members have to follow. Sororities get fined for every Panhellenic rule that is broken, such as sisters contacting PNMs during the week of recruitment.

For example, Ashley dishes, “You would never tell a rushee that everyone will be fined if the lists of girls who were are inviting back for the next round for rush are late to Panhel.”

The rules are there to give sorority life some structure, even if they seem unnecessary. However, this may leave PNMs with a bitter taste in their mouths about the National Panhellenic Conference, so sisters tend to avoid the subject at all costs.

5.You won’t be best friends with everyone in your chapter

Although it seems like it on Facebook, not all girls in the chapter are soul mates. Unless you have an incredibly small pledge class and chapter, there’s a good chance you won’t be best friends with everyone.

“Out of 200 girls, only about 10 are your true friends for life,” Emma says.

Throughout your time, you’ll hopefully find a tight-knit group of girls whom you’ll become close with. As for the other girls, they’re great lunchtime companions and study partners, but you probably won’t be asking them to be your bridesmaids.

“I’m close friends with about six girls in my chapter; the rest are just acquaintances,” says Jill*, a junior at Michigan State University and sorority sister. “There are 150 girls in total, and it’s impossible to know everyone personally.”

6. Girls drop all the time

While some girls are obsessed with their sororities from day one, others don’t always feel that draw. Throughout the four years, girls tend to drop out, whether it’s because of money issues, loss of interest or personal reasons. Regardless, your pledge class is bound to get smaller each year.

“Girls drop because it can get too expensive, their school work gets too difficult or they just feel like they haven’t made any great friends,” Emma says.

Jill also says that the expenses of joining a sorority play a huge role in girls’ decisions to drop. “[Dropping] is rare in most sororities here because most girls who join know what they’re getting into,” she says. “If they do it’s because of the money or it just isn’t their thing.”

7.The food isn’t always great

Unless you go toone of these schools, your college’s dining hall food probably isn’t top notch. A perk of sorority life is having a chef cook for you and your sisters, which means that the food can be more tailored to your tastes. However, the food can tend to get cyclical since it can be challenging to feed such a sizable group of girls.

“The food is cooked in mass quantities and has lots of butter,” Emma says. “We eat a lot of pasta and chicken and vegetables. I got sick of the food at the end of the semester after eating everything at least five times.”

But in the end...

Although these are some things sorority girls wouldn’t spill, there are so many more aspects that can make your sorority a great community within your school. Sometimes the secrets of a sorority can even be the best part. Whether the secrets are exciting, funny, interesting or discouraging, they all help to make each chapter unique.

I Tried The Unicorn Hair Trend & Loved It

This year just might be the year of the unicorn. 2017 has brought us everything from unicorn toast, unicorn poop (totally real but mostly glitter), and I know you remember those crazy few days the unicorn frap existed. Rightfully so, the unicorn hair trend is at this party too. Being that I am obsessed with any and everything colorful and unicorn related, and of course, have dyed my hair pink already, I had to add a few more colors to my life (and insta), and found the best way to do so was to continue to lean into the unicorn trend.

A post shared by Marisa Pieper (@marisa_pieper) on

I had previously bleached my hair towards the bottom and had used semi-permanent Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Dye ($16) in Chocolate Cherry. After a couple months of fade from this color, I knew it was time to add new ones to brighten my hair up. For this unicorn hair experiment, I used Joico Instatints ($10) in six different shades: Mermaid Blue, Sapphire Blue, Hot Pink, Pink, Light Purple, and Orchid.

Felt like being a unicorn for a day #hairjoi #joico #instatints

A post shared by Marisa Pieper (@marisa_pieper) on

I figured out a couple things while doing this experiment. One thing I learned is that you have to spray lightly. I started to spray too much and my hair got a little too crunchy and that made it difficult to style. The color will still show up bold af. Another is don't forget to lay a towel down over the surrounding surfaces! I almost sprayed the white bathroom door pink, purple and blue (sorry mom and dad!!). Finally, definitely don't brush your hair after you've sprayed the colors in because that will just take the color out.

It was so fun using these! I loved how bright the colors came out and it was so easy. I just sprayed a little here, sprayed some on there and poof! I was a unicorn. I’m truly living my best life here. Joico Instatints are great too because they come out after one wash in the shower. So, I can be a unicorn Friday night, a mermaid Saturday, and then who knows? Maybe I’ll pull off Rihanna-red on Sunday. The limit does not exist. Definitely check out Joico Instatints for all your #HairGoals.

Nancy Pelosi & Chuck Schumer Had A Meeting With Trump to Revamp DACA & Border Security

Online shopping has allowed for us to expand our options, and try unique things that are outside the limits of our local malls. 7 Things Every College Girl Should Always Keep in Her Bag

$

Keys? Check. Wallet and phone? Check. Awesome! You've got the bare necessities down, but don't rush out the door just yet. Make your life easier with our guide to everything a collegiette should never leave the dorm without.

1. Hair ties and bobby pins

I can't tell you how many times I've just wanted to put my hair up in the middle of the day, but sadly realized I had no hair ties on me. Take it from me––always have at least two hair ties with you. Oh, and don't forget the bobby pins! The day you forget to pack them will be the day you end up needing them, am I right?

2. A planner

We're busy bees, us collegiettes. Often new plans come up as the day goes on, and we need to be able to remember them. Instead of trying to keep a file of mental notes, just jot them down in a planner! These days, you can find almost any style or aesthetic you like. I'm personally really loving this desert-themed planner from Urban Outfitters.

3. Pads and tampons

Ladies, we've all been there. Aunt Flo comes for an unexpected visit and you end up wobbling down the hall to your friend's classroom to ask for backup. Save the wobbling, and pack a couple extra pads or tampons in your bag instead!

4. Snacks

When it's the middle of the afternoon and you still have two classes to get through, you need a little fuel to keep you going. For something fast, light and versatile, try snacking rounds. Ozery Bakery makes some delicious options, like Apple Cinnamon, Cranberry Orange and Cinnamon Raisin, all with real fruit inside. Pro tip: spread a little peanut butter on top for an extra protein kick to last you through the day.

5. Lip Balm

This one's a no-brainer. Nobody likes chapped lips in the middle of the day, so make sure to always keep your favorite chapstick on hand. With so many flavors and formulas on the market, there's something for everyone! My current faves are Kiehl's Lip Balm and Glossier's Balm DotCom

6. Blotting sheets

For my oily-skinned girls out there, I know the struggle of walking past a mirror at 2 p.m. only to see an actual grease ball staring back. Keep your visage clear and matte all day with the help of blotting papers. Skin more on the dry side? Keep a face mist handy instead to revive dull, parched skin whenever you need!

7. Hand sanitizer

Let's face it, college campuses are like breeding grounds for the plague. Keep whatever virus that's floating around at bay with some heavy duty hand sanitizer. Fall's fast approaching, so what better excuse to invest in some pumpkin-scented sanitizers?

With all these essentials in your bag, you'll be able to handle whatever this semester throws your way. Good luck, collegiettes!

Students At This Utah High School Were Given A Bizarre, Shame-Fueled Quiz On Sex & Drugs

Transitioning from being a high school student to an adult is a difficult process, but one that high schools have begun to get more involved with. Unfortunately, their own transition process has also had their fair share of stumbles.

As part of college-credit course Adult Roles and Financial Literacy, NY Daily News reports, high school students at Roy High School in Utah were given a 30-question quiz titled "Know Thyself." This quiz was not approved to be part of the course’s curriculum. The yes/no quiz includes questions ranging from have you "ever been kissed against your will" to have you "ever made a member of the opposite sex cry" to have you "ever had an abortion," according to Daily Mail.

Each question was assigned a certain number of "indecency points." 12 indecency points were given to both a "yes" answer for "have you ever slipped Angel dust into someone's drink" and "have you (your girl) ever had an abortion?" (Yeah, the quiz equated drugging someone’s drink and having an abortion.)

Students tallied up their results to be ranked from "a nerd" to "hopeless and condemned." Yikes.

The full list of questions can be seen below.

After parents sent complaints to school officials, the teacher who distrubted the quiz has been placed on leave.

As The Salt Lake Tribune reports, Utah schools continue to teach an abstinence-based sex education curriculum, despite several studies showing that it just doesn’t work. While comprehensive sex education is certainly important, this high school teacher isn’t going about it the right way. Shaming students about their sexual behavior won’t lead them to trust their teachers or even their school — and is certainly not the best way to teach students to make safe and informed decisions about their sex lives. Luckily, students may be able to access sex ed even when their schools drop the ball like the case of the porn site in Utah that began redirecting consumers towards sex education courses.

Here's hoping that sex education will become more accessible and inclusive, rather than spreading shame, judgment and stigma.

3 Fashion Trends Making Their Debut This Fall

Fall has officially arrived, so excuse us while we freak out about getting to finally wear dresses and sweaters ~at the same time~. Aside from the pumpkin spice lattes and generally fab weather, our favorite thing about fall is definitely the fashion. New styles are stepping off the runway throughout the season, and all the back to school shopping gives us an excuse to restock our wardrobe. Obviously, you need to return to college looking totally chic, so we’ve partnered with Primark to alert you of the top three trends making their debut this fall. Get hyped for your new role as campus trendsetter and start shopping ASAP!

Trend One: Artsy Bourgeois

If you consider yourself the artsy and romantic type, this trend is literally made for you. Filled with florals, frilled sleeves, lace, embroidery and lots of knitwear, Artsy Bourgeois is all-around effortlessly chic. To achieve the look, shop for poplin blouses, wrap blouses, culottes, high-necked dresses, denim jeans, velvet bags, chokers and metallic accessories.

We recommend styling a poplin blouse with denim jeans and loafers, then adding a choker and velvet backpack to finish it off. To dress up the look, throw in a corset belt! This is perfect for career girls who need an internship outfit to rock, or just for a casual day of catching up on homework at the library. Totes on-trend AND a seriously chill outfit.

Trend Two: My Generation

This ultra-new fall trend is made for collegiettes who live in the moment, always have a positive outlook and love spontaneous moments. We’re talking floral patterns, check print, distressed knitwear, velvet, pom-pom hats and celestial print. Yep. We need to be wearing this, like, now. Stock your closet up with bodysuits, velvet dresses, denim jackets, blouses, casual trousers, sweats and blazers (especially red ones!) to complete this collection perfect for girls who hang with people of all ages and walks of life.

Whether you’re working sorority recruitment or spending the night out with friends, we recommend pairing a velvet dress with a celestial denim jacket. Add a floral, gum sole boot and you’re ready to go! Honestly, this look is everything.

Trend Three: Athleisure

Athleisure is our fave look because it combines high fashion with coziness––literally nothing is better than that. Throw together your own athleisure collection with signature pieces like sweats, jog legs, casual trousers, performance leggings, sweat dresses, skirts, trainers and backpacks. Then make sure to scout out stylish features like velour, distressed denim, suede, wide sleeves and boyfriend denim to take this trend next level.

An outfit that’s got us feeling some type of way is boyfriend jeans complete with a cropped hoodie and pom-pom beanie, plus high-top trainers and a mini-backpack. Talk about a true athleisure look!

Don’t forget to grab your squad, and head to Primark to shop all these amazing new styles. Since Primark goes straight from the runway to your shopping bag, you can always count on snagging speedy trends at an uber affordable price (which is, like, a basic human right). Have a very fashionable fall, collegiettes! We can’t wait to see all the gorge outfits you come up with!

It's safe to say Selena Gomez has the best friends ever. Thursday morning, the singer shared via Instagram that she had a kidney transplant this summer and her close friend (and The Secret Life of the American Teenager actress), Francia Raisa, was the selfless donor. Selena posted a series of photos: one of the actress pals holding hands in the hospital and two of her stomach post-surgery.

In a heartfelt message, Gomez explained why she has remained out of the limelight this summer. "I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of," she wrote. "So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health."

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of.  So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.  And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.  Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. For more information regarding Lupus please go to the Lupus Research Alliance website: www.lupusresearch.org/ -by grace through faith

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

Selena first revealed her lupus diagnosis in a 2015 interview with Billboard, when she shared that she had undergone chemotherapy and taken a step back from her career in the meantime. As PEOPLE reports, Gomez decided to go public with her lupus struggle to raise awareness and be an advocate for those suffering from the disease.

"I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you," her post continued. "Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery."

Selena also gushed about her best friend. "And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."

Both ladies are an inspiration, and they're lucky to have an incredible friendship to help them through the recovery process.

Mandy Moore will be walking down the aisle in the near future—the This Is Us star is engaged to her boyfriend of two years, musician Taylor Goldsmith, PEOPLE reports. Photos of the actress stepping out with a ring on ~that~ finger have been circulating, and now Mandy's costars have confirmed the happy news.

Chris Sullivan—who plays Toby on the hit NBC show—told ET that Mandy shared the announcement with her castmates via group text. "She just sent out an alert over our family text chain, so I can't wait to hear about it," Sullivan said. "She just sent a photo and just wanted us all to know that this just happened, and so then we went on a response spree for about a day and a half."

As for Mandy's TV hubby, Jon Huertas (aka Miguel), he's happy for the lovebirds. "Taylor is an amazing guy," he said. "I love him so much. I love Mandy so much. I'm really happy that they're going to be joining the club!"

Mandy and Taylor just celebrated their two year anniversary in July, and this next step seems obvious since they're already renovating a house together. "I feel like the last year of my life has really been such a cleansing period and yeah, the house is totally symbolic of where I’m lucky enough to find myself at this point in my life, at 33,” Mandy told PEOPLE in July. “I’m ready to start over, start from scratch. I’m so enthusiastic about embracing that. I can’t wait. It’s the best feeling.”

The best 2 years. Never not smiling with you, T.

It sounds like Mandy got the fresh start she's been wanting since her divorce from Ryan Adams. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this adorable couple. Congrats!

4 Tips for Handling Disagreements at Work the Professional Way

$

0

Your workplace should be an environment where you're able to grow professionally and work towards your career potential—and handling a disagreement with a coworker in an unprofessional way can tarnish that. Whether you work with a ton of people or you're on a team of three, it's impossible to like everyone you work with all the time, and disagreements are bound to come up. Read on for some important tips about handling arguments with your colleagues the professional way!

1. Keep it between the two of you

If you're arguing with a coworker, try to keep the details between the two of you. The last thing you want is for other people to get involved, and gossiping at work is unprofessional. There's also a chance that it might turn into a game of telephone, and details about the argument will become muddled and untrue, therefore potentially starting another fight.

"It's best to just confront them face-to-face if there is a disagreement," says Isabel Calkins, a digital marketing fellow at Bully Pulpit Interactive. "The number one rule is not to talk about him or her to your colleagues—even if the other person is [breaking that rule]."

If you're feeling stuck and need advice on how to handle the situation, try to approach a family member or friend outside of work to get their take on it. It's always helpful to talk to someone who has gone through the same thing, and an unbiased person who is hearing the story for the first time may be able to offer some tips on how he or she would approach the situation.

2. Leave your boss out of it

Unless it's absolutely necessary (if there was a threat made or the unrest involved harassment of any kind), try to keep the details of the argument out of your supervisor's ears. Your boss expects you to be able to act in a professional manner at the workplace—employers do not hire employees that they think will become liabilities.

"Try not to involve your manager if possible," says Mara Hyman, a marketing coordinator at CBS Boston. "You don't want your boss to associate you with conflict and not being able to work as a team. I would only communicate your feelings to a superior if there is a serious situation that is getting in the way of you doing your job, such as verbal harassment."

If you must let your manager or a higher-up know about the disagreement, make sure that you do it in a professional way. Have the details of the story ironed out and don't place blame on anyone. Speak from an unbiased point of view and let the person you're talking to know the cold hard facts. Perhaps your supervisor can act as a mediator and you can better resolve the disagreement with a third party.

3. Do your best to work things out

You're going to come across people who have different opinions than you, and that's fine. But sometimes differences in opinion can drive a wedge between people. Do your best to work things out with a coworker who you may butt heads with, and try to find similarities between the two of you. You may even end up friends!

"I think the key to handling a professional disagreement is determining where you have common ground," Mara says. "If you're working on a team project, for instance, find what works and make that the focus. Remember that it can actually be a strength to work with people that have different perspectives and experiences because it will only help your company grow."

If you feel like something is wrong, don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and speak up. It's always better to hash things out than to let them stew.

4. Take a minute to cool down

If an argument is particularly heated, don't continue to argue right then and there. Take a moment to cool off and collect your thoughts so that you both can come back and work things out with clear heads.

"I got into a disagreement recently," says Julianne, an intern. "We talked everything through so that we both heard each other out, and I suggested that we step away for a bit to gather our thoughts. We came back together a few minutes later and were able to settle on an agreement."

We all know that we achieve better results when we don't try to hash out a fight in the heat of the moment. People say things that they don't mean, and it can bring up a bunch of other things that have nothing to do with the matter at hand. If you feel like things are going to spin out of control, take a step back and think about why you are upset, what you want to say, and how you would like to move forward.

Disagreements in the workplace happen, but if you deal with them in the right way, you'll be able to diffuse any coworker scuffles in a professional manner.
