Peter Kraus Isn't Even Thinking About Being the Next Bachelor

0
0

Team Peter knew walking into Monday night’s Bachelorette finale that only two outcomes would be acceptable: Either Rachel would give Peter her final rose, or he would become the next Bachelor. Anything less just wouldn’t do. We know now that Rachel is engaged to someone else, so option one is off the table. So is there any chance Peter will be our next Bachelor?

On a press call Tuesday, Peter seemed just about as broken as it gets. It didn’t take long for the question of “to Bachelor or not to Bachelor” came up, and bad news: Peter’s hesitant to dive back into the Bachelor Nation dating pool.

“Consider, sure. As of right now, am I thinking about it? No,” he said. “Last night was really, really tough; this entire process has been really tough on me. And I would just try to stay home with my friends and family, focus on my business. And I know as soon as I get back home, I’m going to just jump right back into it to process all of this and take some time and not get there just yet with that next potential step.”

Though Peter couldn’t bring himself to propose by the end of Rachel’s season, he believes the process could work for him under different circumstances. “I went into this entire process really open-minded and ready for whatever was thrown at me. And I don’t think even with that I was prepared for what was going to happen. And it was an extremely tough, you know, journey, as everybody keeps saying for me.

“And, yes, I don’t know if I can get to that level with someone that fast, but I certainly know I tried and I developed feelings of love for Rachel. And maybe with a couple little differences throughout, I could’ve gotten to that next step in that amount of time allotted, but I just know in this one specific instance, I couldn’t.

“So, I can’t speak on my own future; I never know what that really holds for me and how different situations will change my feelings and my thoughts. But in this one time, it just wasn’t what I was able to do at that point.”

Rachel weighed in on Peter’s Bachelor potential on a separate press call. She also explained what she meant when she told Peter during the live finale that maybe this process wasn’t for him. “Well, when I said it, I wasn’t necessarily thinking about The Bachelor. I was just talking to him. You know, I complimented Peter on the pace that he’s taken in his journey with me. And I think that that’s fine; he was true to himself and he stood by that, I mean, until the very end when he kept going back and forth.”

“But I feel like in this world, in this experience, you have to take a leap of faith, you have to take risks, you have to put yourself out there and he wasn’t willing to do it,” she continued. “And he still seems to stay steadfast to that. So, if that’s the person that he is, that’s great; it just doesn’t work for this and that’s what I was saying in regards to that.”

So who does Rachel think should be the next Bachelor? Alex! An interesting choice that her fiancé Bryan agreed with.

Well, I thought Peter was a lock, but now I don’t know what to think. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see who gets a second chance at reality TV love.

Bryan Abasolo Added the Sweetest Touch to Rachel Lindsay's Engagement Ring

Rachel Lindsay knew she wanted her Bachelorette journey to end with an engagement, so of course, she had some ideas in mind for her engagement ring. When the time came for Bryan Abasolo to select the ring, he knew exactly what she wanted—because he’d asked her.

Bryan took Rachel’s list of “requirements” and added a special touch that put the Neil Lane sparkler—a three-carat pear-shaped diamond and platinum ring accented with a diamond halo—above and beyond Rachel’s expectations.

“What sealed the deal was the halo of diamonds that was around the ring,” Bryan explained to reporters during a press call Tuesday. “And the significance of that was—what nobody got to see was I believe in our second encounter at the mansion, I told Rachel that she’s so easy to talk to, every single guy in that house would walk away from a conversation with her thinking they were getting a rose because it went so great. And I just think that’s a tribute to Rachel’s genuineness and the fact that everybody gets along with her; it’s like America loves her, it’s like she really has a halo on top of her head. She has this aura about her that everybody loves her.”

“So fast-forward, one of our—the song is actually ‘Halo’ by Beyoncé and that’s what I told her on that second encounter,” he continued. “And with the halo going around the ring with the diamonds, that sealed the deal for me.”

OMG. Isn’t that just the sweetest story you’ve ever heard? Find you a man who puts this much thought into your engagement ring, ladies.

The 10 Couples You'll Meet in College

0
0

Think you’re prepared for college romance? Until you can spot the most notorious campus couples, think again! Read below for HC’s guide to the top ten duos you’ll get to know in your four years at college.

1. The Couple Who’s Already Booked the Campus Chapel

These “romantics” are engaged or soon-to-be. They lovingly refer to the children they do not have, and they’ve already spent at least one year of major holidays together (including, but not limited to, the Fourth of July). If they seem on a different track than most couples, it’s because they are. Expect them to skip out on fraternity ragers for quiet weekends at (ugh) bed and breakfasts.  But hooray for true love, right guys?

2. The Sorority Sweetheart and the Frat Star

These Greek gods have all the social connections and one or both of them is most likely a chapter president. They’re pretty—like, J.Crew catalog pretty. And while there’s always underlying drama with these two, you’ll never see them miss a big social event!

3. The Activists

Remember way back when Summer got all vegan-y on the last season of The O.C. and started hanging around that Che guy? THEY WERE THIS COUPLE. They always have a cause, and it always involves wearing really similar pants. Find them planting sustainable foods in the campus garden, having sit-ins to stop deforestation in order to build new dorms and, most importantly, biking everywhere.

4. The All-Americans

Imagine if David Beckham and Hope Solo dated...this is the couple with enough athletic scholarship money between them to finance a comfortable suburban home. These two are gifted in the abs department. My one request? Stop working out at the gym together—it just makes everyone else want to give up.

5. The Reality Show Drama Couple

Okay, so maybe they don’t have a reality show, but they break up and get back together enough times to make one happen. Find them at the bar, alternatively slurring insults at each other and furiously making out. Don’t even THINK about trying to get mixed up in this one. Remember what happened when Ronnie tried to hook up with other girls behind Sammi’s back on The Jersey Shore? Yikes.

6. The Power Couple

They’ve got matching ambition and the 4.0’s to prove it. This is the couple who will go from trading notes in the library to trading notes on the Senate floor. If you end up in a class with them, expect that they will dominate—they are each other’s biggest competition. Like the Obamas or the Clintons (though some of these romances work out better than others...).

7. The High School Sweethearts

Every freshman floor has at least one girl pining away for her high school boyfriend. They Skype constantly, and he comes to visit about every other weekend. When they’re together, expect them to hibernate in her dorm—when they’re not, expect her phone to be attached to her hand at all times. This couple often bids their relationship adieu over the notorious Thanksgiving Break (“The Turkey Dump”), but some manage to stick it out for the long haul.

8. The Orientation to Graduation Couple

These crazy kids met the first day of college and have been dating ever since. They were among the few freshmen to pair off right away and are among the even fewer who stay together.  While they may not keep dating after college, they're certainly tagged in an obscene amount of Facebook photos togetherwhile it lasts.

9. The Law Student and the Co-ed

There’s always one sorority girl who finds her frat boy counterparts to be too immature. Enter the older law student/med student/local businessman who’s still into 19-year-olds! While their love isn’t traditional, it is mutually beneficial. You can find them out at nice dinners and swanky bars. Just don’t call him a Sugar Daddy!

10. The Best Dressed Duo

Even if they go to school in the middle of Iowa, they dress like it’s New York Fashion Week every day. They shop together, and they probably both have really good hair, seemingly without trying. Find them around campus looking like they’re posing for a fashion shoot. You will never find them repeating outfits.

Disney Is Pulling All Its Movies From Netflix in 2019

Watch out, Netflix—Disney is about to change the game by starting its own streaming service. The service will be filled with Disney TV shows, movies and shorts and is set to launch in 2019, the company announced Tuesday.

With plans already in the works, Disney will be pulling all of its content from Netflix in 2019. Once the exclusive Disney service launches, it'll be the only place where you can stream Disney content—including new films like Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4 and beloved classics like Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan

No one knows yet if the price for Disney's streaming service will be comparable to the cost of Netflix. I can only hope the Disney subscription will be cheap so I can afford both! I just can't live without my Finding Nemo, That's So Raven and Disney Channel Original Movies.

These Sisters Look So Much Like Kim Kardashian & Kylie Jenner It's Scary

The makeup is the same. The hair is the same. Even the freakin'poses are the same! I won't lie, when I first saw a photo of lifestyle bloggers and sisters Sonia and Fyza Ali, I instantly mistook them for Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner. While it's difficult to mistake the iconic Kardashian and Jenner sisters, it's shocking how much these two resemble KKW and KJ. Just look at them!

I repeat, this is not a photo of Kim and Kylie. Crazy, I know.

Cosmopolitan reports that the eerie resemblance between the pairs of sisters was brought to the attention of Kardashian fans after a photo captioned "This isn't Kim or Kylie. This is scary lmaoo" racked up thousands of retweets on Twitter.

And if you think that's scary, just wait until you see the other photos I found while creeping on their Instagram account.

Just in case you need a refresher (and some of your sanity back), here's a photo of the actual Kim and Kylie.

So, what's the deal with these sisters? While Babe reported that Sonia and Fyza allegedly achieved their look through plastic surgery, an updated report from Harper's Bazaar includes a statement they received from the sisters on the subject. "We didn't go through surgery at all as we are Muslim and our families are quite devoted so we aren't allowed to anyway," they told the magazine.

Claims of plastic surgery came about after one Twitter user did some sleuthing and posted alleged photos of the sisters when they were younger, compared to how they look today.

Whether the sisters intentionally underwent surgery to look like Kim and Kylie or are just further proof that doppelgängers (and possibly clones) exist, I think we can all agree on one thing: Their resemblance is. On. Point.

Will Smith Talked to Barack Obama About Playing Him in a Movie & Obama Had the Best Comeback

Will Smith has played a number of real people on the big screen, from boxer Muhammed Ali to philanthropist and businessman Chris Gardner. He's also a prominent supporter of Barack Obama—Will and wife Jada Pinkett Smith even hosted a fundraiser in their Los Angeles home in 2012 to benefit Obama's reelection campaign, according to The Hill. So Smith seems like the perfect candidate to play Obama in a biopic, right?

During an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series, Will told James Corden he’s considered it. Jump to 4:22 to see his hilarious confession, as long as you don't mind skipping some great dance moves.

While there have already been two movies based on Obama's life (Southside With You and Barry), I can’t help but think Will would be perfect to play the 44th POTUS.

What does Obama think? “He told me that he felt confident that I had the ears for the role,” Smith told Corden. HA! Flawless Obama comebacks are what America's been missing.

Will was too busy dancing in his seat to let any more details slip during the interview, so we'll just have to wait and see if this dream casting becomes a reality. My fingers are crossed!

9 Reasons To Consider Becoming a TA

0
0

Over your four years at college, you'll run into your fair share of teaching assistants (TAs). But has it ever crossed your mind that you could be one too? After all, that hot guy supervising your bio lab or the girl leading your econ quiz section with a killer PowerPoint presentation is a student just like you. But if going from behind your desk to the front of the classroom seems intimidating, don’t worry. We’ve got the inside scoop—and nine reasons becoming a TA might be a great choice for you.

1. You’ll form a relationship with your professor

Obviously, being a TA will help you build a relationship with the professor you work for. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn more from their experience and expertise, but professors are also networking gold. Most professors worked in a related industry before transitioning to teaching, and likely have connections that could help you toward your dream job. They might be able to help set you up an informational interview or put in a good word for you—just ask! When it comes time to apply to an internship, they’re also a great person to ask for a recommendation letter, since they’ll have seen your work ethic and professionalism day in and day out. Plus, you two might hit it off and bond over your shared love of tennis or Game of Thrones!

Related: How To Interact with College Professors

2. You’ll be compensated

Obviously, the school doesn't expect you to work for nothing. It depends on the university, but most TAs are compensated with either an hourly wage, partial tuition waivers or academic credits. This is something to keep in mind when you're deciding whether to take the position—after all, if you're already taking a full credit load, registering for those extra credits might actually come with an extra fee. Likewise, if you're on a full academic scholarship, tuition waivers won't really benefit you. However, this is a great way to earn some cash on campus or those extra credits might get you earlier registration privileges!

3. It demonstrates leadership

Not only is this a great leadership role for your resume, but officially working for your college or university comes with extra weight behind it. You help represent the school to every student in the class you TA for, and future employers will be impressed. Being a TA requires professionalism, discretion and integrity—traits that will serve you well in a job hunt and in life.

4. It’s flexible

Though you'll likely have to attend lectures and possibly hold review sessions or office hours, chances are most of your work can be done at home in your pajamas. Grading papers in your pajamas or watching Friday Night Lights while scoring quizzes beats going into the office any day! This means that even if your planner is already jam-packed with classes, clubs and other commitments, being a TA can still work with your busy schedule. That said, make sure you’re being realistic about what you can handle.

5. You might already be tutoring your friends

Your study dates with friends turn into you giving them the Cliffnotes version of the last lecture every. single. time. People are always asking you to proofread their papers or critique their PowerPoint presentations. You’re everyone’s go-to for questions about the syllabus or a concept from lecture they don’t understand. If any of this rings true, you're practically a TA already. Why not make it official?

6. You like helping others

There’s no better feeling than helping someone finally understand something that they’ve been struggling with. If you have a knack for boiling something down to its simplest parts or coming up with quirky analogies, you’d probably be a great TA. Since you’ve already taken the class, you can also share any tips or tricks you picked up, like mnemonics or the best way to study for the final.

7. You’ll meet a LOT of new people

Don't get too close while they're still in your class, since we do NOT recommend students date their TA, but if you're all in are in the same department, it’s likely you'll run into each other again. If you see them in a different class or sitting alone at a café, why not try getting to know them better? You have a built-in conversation starter and you already know you have similar interests. If your professor has multiple TAs for the class, you'll likely befriend them as well, so you'll always have someone to vent to over last-minute syllabus changes or crazy grading deadlines.

8. You’ll master the material

If this class is key to your major or a specialized lecture that inspired your future career, this is a golden opportunity to become a pro in that area. After a few months of review and helping others with the same material, those key concepts (and even the obscure trivia) will be second nature. You'll be able to recite the textbook in your sleep, and will understand the subject at a much deeper level.

9. You can avoid burnout

Alternatively, staying involved with something outside your department or concentration might be just what you need to avoid hating your major. If your eyes are glazing over while trying to do your assigned reading, focusing on another subject for a few hours—one that won't affect your GPA—might be just what you need. It's easy to throw yourself into your chosen field and end up burned out, so staying involved with a wide range of subjects might just keep you sane.

If you're interested in being a TA, talk to your professor and let them know that you'd like to be considered! Don't be discouraged if they don't need someone right away. If you really want to work with them, continue that relationship so they keep you in mind when another opportunity arises. Ask them for career advice or book recommendations, then follow up to show you’re truly interested. Some professors have more than one TA, so your chances of nabbing the job might be better than you think. Academic advisers also a valuable resource. They’re familiar with your entire department, and will likely know about all the upcoming opportunities.

A simple conversation might be all it takes to set you on the path of becoming a TA—so what are you waiting for?

Dr. Pimple Popper Just Released Her Own Acne-Fighting Sheet Mask

Dr. Sandra Lee, more commonly known as Dr. Pimple Popper, is a national treasure. Her ultra satisfying extraction videos have absolutely blown up in the past few years, creating an army of "popaholics" that just can't seem to get enough of her. I remember the first time I saw one of her blackhead extraction videos, I rushed over to the nearest Ulta just so I could get my hands on an extraction tool. Last October, she finally answered our skincare prayers by launching her roll-on acne fighting spot treatment, and now, Dr. Lee has gifted us with a sheet mask as well

Adding to her SLMD skincare line, Dr. Lee has partnered with Dermovia to create the Lace A Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal mask.

Unlike most sheet masks, the Lace A Peel has two steps. First, the black peel off mask should be applied to areas prone to getting blackheads, namely the T-zone. Next, place the lace mask on, catch up on your favorite book for 20 minutes or so, then rinse away to reveal clearer, happier skin. Suitable for all skin types, this mask works because charcoal draws dirt, excess sebum, and other impurities out of the skin. The TL;DR version? This mask is gonna clear up those pesky, pesky blackheads.

Looking to say àdieu to your blackheads for good? You can get the Lace A Peel mask for $55 at Dr. Pimple Popper. Happy masking!

Harvard University's Incoming Class Has a Majority of Nonwhite Students

0
0

For the first time in 380 years, Harvard University is expecting an incoming class with a majority of nonwhite students, TIME reports. According to The Boston Globe, 50.8 percent of this year’s Harvard freshmen are considered minorities. 22.2 percent of these accepted minority students are Asian American, while the rest of the pool consists of African Americans, Latino and Native American or Pacific Islander.

The record appears after a report from earlier this month claimed that the U.S. Justice Department would investigate universities for discriminatory affirmative action admissions policies against white applicants. The account, showing President Donald Trump’s conservative influence on the nation’s civil rights work, was actually a job posting asking for someone to research one complaint about admission committees discriminating against Asian-American students. The admissions procedures of Harvard, along with other Ivy League schools, were mentioned in the complaint.

“To become leaders in our diverse society, students must have the ability to work with people from different backgrounds, life experiences and perspectives,” Harvard spokeswoman Rachael Dane said in a statement. “Harvard remains committed to enrolling diverse classes of students. Harvard’s admissions process considers each applicant as a whole person, and we review many factors, consistent with the legal standards established by the U.S. Supreme Court.”

While these statistics are definitely a step in the right direction in today’s society, GOOD Magazine pointed out that the students’ economic backgrounds were not revealed. Quoting writer Cord Jefferson, the article read, “While America’s most elite colleges do in fact make it a point to promote ethnic diversity on their campuses, a lot of them do so by admitting hugely disproportionate numbers of wealthy immigrants and their children rather than black students with deep roots—and troubled histories—in the United States.”

Although Harvard has an Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program, the points made about both sides of this enrollment news are worth discussing.

Rachel Lindsay Wore a 30-Pound Gown to Her Final Rose Ceremony

It's official. Season 13 of The Bachelorette is over, and *spoiler alert*, Rach chose Bryan. Whatever your opinion on her final choice is, you can't deny that she looked absolutely stunning during her very last rose ceremony. One thing you might not have realized though - that gorgeous silver gown weighed 30 lbs

Designed by Randi Rham, the dress featured intricate beading from head to toe, along with a super high slit held together with some delicate silver threading. Apparently, this dress was one of the easiest choices Rachel faced during the season. "Once Rachel saw the dress in person, there was no question which gown she was going to pick. This was the clear winner," Rahm revealed in a statement to People. Still, I'm wondering how she managed to make it look so effortless!

You Have to See This Hilarious Manicure Trend That's Happening on Twitter

Leave it to Twitter to come up with something as crazy, weird and absolutely funny as this. People are actually trying to one up each other by matching their manicures to the oddest (and sometimes grossest) things. It all started when the literal Queen of Extra herself uploaded this pic of her fresh set -

Then she upped the ante with this pic of...is that bacon, maybe?

That's when the manicure mania truly began.

This girl took the matching challenge to the next level. I can only imagine what the people around her were thinking.

Later, we got a picture-perfect ad for summer sausage.

Even Reebok got in on the fun.

I honestly can't wait to see what's next in this golden thread.

Jennifer Lawrence's September 'Vogue' Covers Will Take Your Breath Away

The Fall season is almost here, and Vogue is about to release the crown jewels of their yearly editorial crop. The biggest and most influential of the year, the September issue has the power to identify and set the next #it trends in stone. This year marks the magazine's 125th anniversary, and to celebrate the occasion, they're gifting us with four different covers, all starring national treasure Jennifer Lawrence. Each cover features strikingly diverse looks captured by three different photographers and one artist. Shall we peruse through the collection?

Here's J. Law looking like she's on the set of a Bond film. Renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz captured this breathtaking shot.

In a bit of a different move on Vogue's part, John Currin was asked to create a portrait of Jennifer that looks like it came straight out of a vintage issue.

A departure from the glamour and gloss of the first cover, this photo shows a distinctly softer take on the season, all in beautiful black and white.

Finally, the whammy. I mean really, how good does she look in gold?

Which cover is your favorite, collegiettes?

17 Thoughts You Have When Guys Mansplain Things to You

0
0

Whether you’ve experienced it at school, work or even online, you've probably dealt with being talked down to when a guy tries to explain things to you. Men will mansplain feminism, why men and women aren’t paid the same and what all the themes were in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—Parts 1 and 2. Not all guys mansplain things, but when they do, here are 17 thoughts that run through your head as you bolt from those annoying conversations.

1. Please don’t start this convo off with "Let me explain"

You don't get an opinion on my body.

2. Why is he speaking so softly?

That's when you know it's coming.

3. What are all the hand motions for?

4. Oh, I guess I’m so slow that I need visuals to follow along

5. Is he picking up pen and paper…to draw a diagram?!

6. He is not going to railroad me and be the conductor of this entire conversation

7. He wants me to let him finish his point…

8. …even though I’m the one that started this whole thing in the first place

9. Let me finish my original thought!

10. Time to stop listening to you because I’m upset that you THINK you’re right!

You're not.

11. Great. This is the part of the conversation where all women get lumped together

12. So apparently, “all females” get attitudes when told something we don’t like

Pretty sure 99.9 percent of the world’s population reacts like that?

13. Wow, he actually stopped talking for the first time in five minutes

It's a miracle.

14. Now, let me get in at least one sentence before he starts up again

15.  Wow, three words are enough to set him off

This should be good.

16. Oh no, don’t go there…

They never know when to quit.

17. You are really gonna tell me what it's like being a woman?

Because you have SO much experience in that department.

North Korea Is "Seriously Examining" a Missile Strike near Guam

0
0

It was hard to miss President Donald Trump’s comments this week about meeting North Korea’s threats of nuclear weapons with “fire and fury like the world has never seen.” The president made the remarks after news broke of North Korea’s possession of a “nuclear warhead that can be affixed to missiles,” The Los Angeles Times said. Now in response to Trump’s “fiery” claims, CNN reports that North Korea is “seriously examining a plan” to launch a missile strike targeted near Guam.

The consideration of a strike comes from the North Korean Strategic Force of the Korean People’s Army. If the decision is carried out, the country’s four Hwasong-12 rockets would eventually hit waters 30 to 40 kilometers away from Guam. According to an article published by North Korean media KCNA, the missiles could reach Guam by mid-August, and then the Korean army would await orders assumedly from Kim Jong Un. It’s suspected that the missiles would purposely target Guam’s Andersen Air Force Base, which is primarily used as a staging area for bomber groups.

“This is extremely getting on the nerves of the infuriated Hwasong artillerymen of the [Korean’s People Army],” a wire published by KCNA said of Trump’s behavior. “Sound dialogue is not possible with such a guy bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him.”

Unsurprisingly, Trump has a history of speaking so strongly against North Korea, but he might’ve expressed himself a little more eloquently back in the day. NBC News released footage from 1999 of the then businessman discussing the United States’ relationship with North Korea.

“Wouldn’t it be good to sit down and really negotiate something?” he said in the old interview. “If that negotiation doesn’t work, you better solve the problem now than solve it later.”

What with this clip resurfacing, I’m hoping that Trump learns a thing or two from his past self about staying calm in these intense situations. We’ll have to wait and see how North Korea chooses to act as the month continues.

The House Used as Harry Potter's Parents' Home Is Now on Sale

My life plan includes living in a quaint English cottage at some point, and for some lucky, probably loaded folks out there in the world, those dreams could soon be a reality. The home used as Harry Potter’s parents’ house in Deathly Hallows is now on sale for about $1.3 million, Cosmopolitanreports. Unlike the disheveled appearance the house ended up with after Voldemort’s fateful meeting with the Potters, the De Vere House is actually in great shape today.

The six-bedroom home can be found in England in a village called Lavenham, which is one of the best preserved medieval villages in the country. The East Anglian Daily Timesreports that while filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, no actors actually worked in the village. The cast and crew filmed in a studio with a green screen, which then turned into footage of Lavenham and the De Vere House in the final film.

The home has had some pretty impressive residents, include the De Veres, who are believed to have been the second wealthiest family in medieval times after the King. The property also has other royal ties, having housed King Henry VII when he was on a hunting trip in the late 1400s. Um, can I please go live out my princess fantasies here before the new tenants move in?

In addition to plenty of bedrooms, the house includes a drawing room, sitting room, dining room, two kitchens, a stable and a kitchen garden. The East Anglian Daily Times has posted some photos of the house's rooms, and they're low key beautiful. So basically, the house is a lot more intricate than its dilapidated model you can find on London’s Harry Potter Studio Tour.

I have major envy for whoever ends up with this gem of a house. I may or may not try to track them down and become best friends with them so they’ll invite me for a sleepover. That’s normal, right?

You Shouldn’t Lose Your Virginity To These 5 Types of People

You’ve done your research, read a few Judy Blume novels and replayed your favorite sex scenes over and over again on Netflix (@Gossip Girl fans we're looking at you). Bottom line: you’re fully ready to lose that v-card. But before you drop your pants, let us drop some knowledge on you: whoever is going to be by your side while you’re on your side (or back, or front—whatever works for you) is going to be a significant player in your conversations about sex for the rest of your life. Whether you’ve been dating for five years or you met five minutes ago, run through these red flags to make sure you know exactly what you shouldn’t be getting into—or who shouldn’t be getting into you.

Here for a good time, not a long time

SPOILER ALERT: the possibility of your first time being zero to 100 back to zero real quick is pretty high. But we’re not talking about speed of the act itself, but the speed at which your first-time lover decides to get out of your bed/tree house/high school locker room.

Moriah Raisis, a junior at Southern Methodist University, can attest to this issue well after losing her virginity to one of her first college friends. “All he wanted to do was talk about sex before we even did it, and I was in such a hurry to get it over with that I didn't even notice,” she says. “The worst part? Afterwards, he said, "Hey I don't wanna sound rude but...could you please leave?"’”

You may be eager to throw your virginity out the door, but you probably want to make sure you’re not being thrown out right behind it. Make your expectations clear about the time you want to spend together—if you and your supposed special someone aren’t on the same page, you might want to keep those pants buttoned.

He’s just not that into you…or you’re just not that into him.

Your first time can come with some serious emotional attachment. While it’s pretty hard to tell how you’re going to feel before you get between the sheets, you can usually get a good read on things by figuring out if you and your partner-in-sex feel the same way about each other.

Katie Short, a senior at SUNY Oswego, comments about deciding to hold off on losing it to her close friend who she had been hooking up with. “He started to develop feelings for me,” she says. “I told him we couldn’t continue doing what we were doing because it was disrespectful to him and would only hurt him, and after some reluctance on his part, he agreed with me to just be friends and to not continue hooking up.” Acknowledging that sex is going to hurt one of you (and not just physically) is an important, mature step to saving you from either serious guilt or serious heartbreak down the road.

Under pressure

You’ve told your ideal person that you’re down to get down, but, ever since then, you haven’t heard anything from him or her other than talk about doing the deed. Suddenly, your first time has become the only focus of conversation, and you feel like you need to just rip off your clothes so you can finally change the topic.

If your relationship with someone has changed just because you started talking about having sex, then it’s probably bound to change even more once you get around to it. It’s possible that this person is super excited about the possibility of kicking your physical relationship up a notch, but it’s also possible that you could be another notch on his or her belt.

Next time sex comes up in conversation (which, inevitably, won’t be too far away), make sure you set things straight about your intentions. If getting laid is the only thing keeping you together, maybe it’s time to break apart.

Easy cum, easy go

Birds do it, bees do it, but now it seems like everyone is doing it. You’re ready to make moves with literally the next person you see, because Trojans are beyond #trending right now and you’re not trying to be stuck in last season. Pump the brakes before you put it in–love may be blind, but lust is absolutely blackout.

Rachel, a recent graduate from James Madison University, saw her friends getting busy and wanted to join in. “I thought about doing it with an older boyfriend at the time (he wasn't a virgin), but I wasn't 100 percent convinced and was really only thinking about it because I wanted to have sex, not because I wanted to have sex with him,” she says. “If you're more into the idea of it than the person themselves, it probably isn't the right person!”

FOMO and quick access to a quickie shouldn’t be the driving forces behind your first choice in bedmate. If “I was down and he was there” is the only explanation you can give, you might want to shut your legs and open your mind to some other options.

One-hit wonder

You’ve only been to first base, but it’s really good. Like amazing good. So good, that the minute you start kissing you’re fully ready to strip. Great kissers must be great in bed, right?

Take a look at that logic. That’s like saying people who are great at simple algebra are equally outstanding at astrophysics. Or that people who can microwave Easy Mac have a shot at an Iron Chef title. Or that your Instragram getting more than 400 likes makes you the next Annie Leibowitz. Just because this person may have mastered the most basic level of physical pleasure, you shouldn’t jump to any grandiose conclusions.

Kayleen Parra-Padron, a senior at Florida International University, knows this feeling well. “My ex and I had been dating for about a month and I was literally crazy about him because he was really good at making out," she said. "Of course, good kissers always lead to possible regrets afterwards.” And honestly, she was right. She held off on getting off and he dumped her.

We’re not trying to tell you that a good kisser is a bad choice. But just because someone has the lips of an angel, you shouldn’t be expecting some heavenly lovemaking.

11 Things That Never Change About College

Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, whether you go to a huge university or a small college, you’ll notice that some things about college never change. While it’s not normal to see people sleeping in public or listen to a person you can’t understand for an hour and a half in the real world, these oddities make up every girl’s college experience.

1. Getting lost on the first day of classes

You’re excited for this psychology seminar, but it seems that either you've accidentally stepped into Narnia or they added this part of campus while you were gone for the summer. Now you look like a freshman with your map open on your iPhone.

2. The latecomer

This class is only an hour long, and this guy is waltzing in 30 minutes late with coffee in hand. He also tends to be the one who leaves 30 minutes before the exam period is over. You’re tempted to trip him on his way in.

3. The sleeper

This guy is there for every lecture, but he’s in his third REM cycle by the time you’ve gone over the syllabus. Why does he even bother?

4. That couple

Your entire group of friends been secretly wishing that they would break up ever since their eyes locked across the room at orientation. You would love to date that guy, but you're pretty sure you're already slotted in for bridesmaid duty five Junes from now.

5. Your personal ubiquitous stranger

Seriously, is this person following you? You might as well introduce yourself now, because you see this person in class, at the dining hall and just walking around campus all. the time. It's either destiny or stalking. We'll go with destiny...

6. The incomprehensible professor

Whether he or she whispers, shouts, speaks with an accent or mumbles to the floor, you might as well not even go to lecture, because the only thing you can understand from this person is that your Facebook News Feed isn’t refreshing fast enough.

7. The hot TA

Everyone is counting down the seconds until the semester is over so they can ask this guy out. Hot and applying to med school? Yes, please!

8. That class no one can get into

Whether it’s wine-tasting, puppy-petting or social dance, every school has that one class everyone wants to take… and no one can actually get into. Good luck in the lottery next year, ladies.

9. That time of year when everyone is sick

That one sick person sneezes in the dining hall, and suddenly your entire school has caught the plague, usually in the dead of winter during finals week. Perfect.

10. Your party friends

There are those people you see every time you’re out—and nowhere else. “Oh my God, it’s you!” “Oh my God, it’s you!

11. You're always glad to be back

Whether your parents have been driving you crazy or your summer job bored you out of your mind, it's always good to be in the land of unlimited dining-hall food, neighbors who are also your friends and class that is (usually) kind of, sort of optional.

Fashion Icon Betsey Johnson Is Turning 75 & She's As Fabulous As Ever

Betsey Johnson recently celebrated 50 years in fashion, and now has another milestone coming up: her 75th birthday. Though some might expect her to retire, Betsey shows no signs of slowing down—not surprising, since she's never been one to follow the herd. As Patricia Mears, deputy director of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, told The Daily Beast, "she is a testament to individuality." She's known for her choppy blonde bob, bold lipstick and sass, but most of all, for shaking up the fashion industry with clothes that were unequivocally and unapologetically fun. As Sophia Amoruso, NastyGal's #girlboss CEO, says, "She’s built a huge brand based on youthfulness and rebellion. Her clothes were never too-cool-for-you. They just said that it’s fun to be a girl."

Even if you haven't worn one of her iconic prom dresses yourself, you've probably seen her designs on celebrities like Beyonce, Rihanna and Katy Perry (to name just a few). So it might come as a shock that Betsey didn't major in fashion design, but studied ballet before graduating from Syracuse University (with honors, obviously). In fact, as she told the Los Angeles Times, she wanted to be a Rockette when she grew up. But sometimes we don't choose our destiny—it chooses us. During her first job as a guest editor for Mademoiselle Magazine, her boss recommended her for a fashion designer job opening, and the rest is history.

Half a century later, her runway shows are known for their funky and lighthearted looks, featuring corsets, petticoats, frills and a vibrant color palette. Betseycalls each show a "little party," and Cyndi Lauper even performed at a show back in 2012. But the fan-favorite part part of her fashion show is hands-down always the grand finale: Betsey's cartwheel into the splits. Betsey told the Huffington Post, "These days I lean more towards the splits which are easy peasy. Cartwheels make me a little afraid because I never know what I’m cartwheeling on and what will happen on that surface. I do love doing them so I will every now and then." The fact that she describes splits as "easy peasy" is pretty much irrefutable proof that she's a badass—not to mention the fact that she beat breast cancer and slayed on Season 19 of Dancing With The Stars, all while raising her daughter as a single mom.

She also believes fashion is for everyone—in 2015, Betsey joined TLC's 'Say Yes To The Prom' program and helped dress underpriviledged high school students in New York. She even donated hundreds of accessories from her line for the students to rock fashionable looks from head to toe. The charitable project was a perfect fit for Betsey, who has said in an interview that "[her] business was—in a way—built on the prom dress."

Betsey's determination, creativity, and zest for life have made her not only a fashion icon, but a role model to women and girls everywhere. Happy birthday, Betsey!

In celebration of Betsey turning 75 on August 10, here are nine of our favorite Betsey Johnson looks from over the years.
