This Woman Faked Having Cancer to Avoid Jail Time & Got Caught

A Connecticut woman is going to prison for...avoiding going to prison? The Associated Press reports that Aliyah Davis engaged in a "fraud and identity theft scheme" at Mass Mutual, where she was then employed. Fraud and identity theft are obviously crimes, so in 2014, Davis was sentenced in a federal court to four years in prison. But instead of actually serving that sentence, Davis decided to come up with a completely new scheme.

The AP reports that Davis was allowed to delay going to prison after telling prosecutors she had terminal cancer—which she definitely never had. Davis even forged signatures on multiple doctors' notes detailing her condition.

At the time of her initial sentencing, she was known as Theresa Sutherland. However, once her ridiculous plan was in motion, she changed her name to her Aliyah Davis—and then allegedly used the name change to get fraudulent unemployment compensation, according to the AP. Despite the name change, she was still connected to the false claims and will now be serving 30 additional months. Guess she shouldn't have tried to avoid jail time!

Mattel Releases a Variety of Inclusive Ken Dolls

Over a year ago, Mattel released a range of body-inclusive Barbie dolls that changed the way the world saw the iconic doll. Girls were thrilled that they could not only find a doll that looked more like them, but also one that didn’t set the unrealistic expectation that all of your adult life will be spent in heels (and that eventually your feet will just be shaped so that they fit into nothing but a heel).

As Barbie continued to grow… and shrink (after all, her collection included petite and tall dolls), her “other half,”  Ken, remained the same. With blonde hair, blue eyes and abs that indicate he’s probably not down for a 2 a.m. pizza, Ken looked like the classic “all-American boy.” The only problem is, is that it's 2017… and we all know by now that there’s no one way to “look American.” Not all Barbies look the same, so they’re definitely not all going to want to date the same dude.

It was revealed on Good Morning America that the toy company finally heard Barbie’s pleas, and decided to make Ken cool again. Barbie’s long-time boyfriend will now be available in three different body types, seven different skin tones, and nine different hairstyles.

I love this photo. The wide range of Barbies look like they should be actors on a set of a new show about high school kids that everyone loves for being “so real.” Not everyone is at a supermodel’s height, with a size 00 waist and bleach blonde hair, and it's about time we stop giving children these unrealistic standards. While we generally focus on young girls when discussing Barbie and the harmful effects that she might have on self-esteem and body confidence, it's important to realize that boys are affected by this as well. Just as a girl might feel self-conscious about not attaining Barbie’s extreme proportions, a boy might feel the same way about not having Ken’s abs or physique.

These Ken dolls will come in a “slim” and “broad” build, as well as the classic build that still exists. We don't know yet what all the different hairstyles will include, except it has been confirmed that cornrows, as well as a man bun will both be included. You know that Barbie’s trying to stay with the times when their release a man-bun Ken. Regardless of what your opinions are about the hairstyle IRL, you have to admit that the doll is pretty cute.

“By continuing to expand our product line, we are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation," Lisa McKnight, Barbie senior vice president and general manager said. "Evolving Ken was a natural evolution for the brand and allows girls to further personalize the role they want him to play in Barbie’s world.” Lets just not forget that girls aren’t the only ones who can play with Barbie or Ken dolls!

Let's go Barbie!

7 Things Your Boss Wishes You Knew

$
0
0

Decoding what your boss actually wants from you is its own workload. All employers want different things from you as an employee, and it can feel overwhelming trying to figure out what those things are. We spoke to Emily Miethner, founder and president of FindSpark and MCG Social, and Rick Gillis, job search expert and author of PROMOTE!: It's Who Knows What You Know That Makes a Career. Both are career experts who are especially knowledgeable about millennials in the workplace. We asked the experts about what they wish young employees knew, so you don’t have to ask your boss.

1. Communication is key

Better communication is one of the skills Miethner was emphatic about. “The biggest thing is that we want [our employees] to talk to us, often,” Miethner says. She even mentioned that one of the qualities she looks for in potential employees is that they are strong communicators. Communication is hard to be good at, though. U.S. News says the number one way to be a better communicator is to listen. Another important aspect of communication is to try to keep your interactions positive. Like the old saying goes, “You get more flies with honey than with vinegar.” In other words, people are rarely inclined to work with you if you come off as nasty or negative.

2. Understand the business you’re in

It may sound pretty obvious, but truly having an understanding for the business you want to be in will make a world of difference. Miethner works with companies like BuzzFeed and HBO, and has found that “a big differentiator is finding people who really understand the business.” Her advice is to truly know what the brand is about and what you can bring to the company. Understanding the business means you have to be willing to study it. Lexi Hill, a junior at the University at South Carolina, says, “Read up on what you’re working with. Study how to act professionally, how to write emails, how to act in an office environment. It’s different than school!” All that attention to detail will show that you’re driven and willing to put in the work.

Related: 7 Things College Grads Wish They Knew Before Entering the Workforce

3. They don’t want to fire you

It’s true. Typically, employers don’t like firing people. This is some intel that Miethner finds big companies wished their employees knew. “Everybody wants to keep their employees…for a long time,” she says. Of course, don’t stay at a company you can’t stand working for. But as it turns out, your employers aren’t out to get you; they’re just trying to get the best out of you.

4. You should be proactive

Take action. Tell your employer or manager what you’re aiming for. According to Miethner, employers want to know how to help you expand on your strengths and interests. But it’s important to remember you might not be tasked with the most exciting work first. A lot of times you have to do the hard, monotonous work before you can do the cool, thrilling work. Actually telling your boss what you want can be scary, though. According to Gillis, there is no reason that you shouldn’t ask to take on a certain project “if you’re knowledgeable and capable.”

5. The work isn’t about you

Your work reflects back on your boss. So it's important to develop a solid relationship with your employer. Gillis recommends taking any opportunity to make them look good. He says to stay tuned in to the projects they're working on, what stresses them and how you can make yourself available to help. Ultimately, it will make you memorable, and professionally valuable, to your boss. At the end of the day, though, “It’s not about [the employee]. It’s about the boss. It’s about the [company’s] mission,” Gillis says.

6. Networking is actually really important

Networking can come off as a cold term, but it actually means making work-related relationships. And relationships don’t just flourish overnight; they need to be properly built and invested in, which is why it’s important to think about these work-related relationships for the long run. “I wish that young professionals were not so short-sighted when it comes to networking,” Miethner says. Take the opportunities provided to you to go meet people, even if it doesn’t seem like it will immediately benefit you, Miethner adds. Oftentimes, the greatest relationships in life are the ones you didn’t expect.

Related: A Shy Girl's Guide to Networking

7. You need to be confident

Being confident in your work will get you noticed. Lexi learned this from her first internship. “I was a senior out of high school at a law firm with 100+ partners working with one of the partner’s paralegals. I was scared shitless and I didn’t feel like I belonged there. However, after that summer I was invited to come back and intern with the development team,” she says. “Ultimately, being confident in your work and acting like you belong makes you stand out to the bosses.” But the tricky part about confidence is that sometimes it comes off as cockiness. Gillis says some ways to come off as confident, not arrogant, are to exude a positive attitude, stand up for yourself and know your value to the company, while also being able to prove that in your work.

At the end of the day, your employer wants to see you do your best work. And even better, they want you to talk to them. They want you to show them that you’re passionate about bringing something unique and exciting to the company. Then, of course, they actually want you to deliver on that. So when the work gets tough, just remember that your boss actually wants the best for you, even if it doesn’t always seem like it.

Demi Lovato Used Selena Gomez Lyrics in an Instagram Caption, & No One Knows What It Means

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez's friendship has been a talking point for yearsand Demi just resurrected the frenzy with an Instagram caption that may or may not be a reference to Selena's hit, "Kill Em With Kindness."

Demi's Instagram caption reads, "Kill em with kindness.... or choke em with a smile on your face." This is clearly a different spin on the otherwise cutesy expression.

Kill em with kindness.... or choke em with a smile on your face.

A post shared by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on

Given that the picture doesn't seem to have anything to do with Selena, it's highly likely that Demi was just quoting the common saying, not Selena's song. But that didn't stop fans from commenting up a storm. Many followers revived their old friendship name (Delena) with comments like "Let delena live pls" and "#DELENA." Others straight-up asked, "Does this have something to do with sel?"

Why the obsession? Demi and Selena have had a long on-and-off friendship that dates all the way back to when they acted on Barney and Friends together before becoming Disney Channel stars. At one point, they were total BFFs, but over the years, their friendship has been rocky and their fans have even feuded. Back in the day, the singers vlogged with each other on YouTube, co-starred in Princess Protection Program and had songs "One and the Same" and "Send It On" together. However, they seemed to grow apart as they aged, moving on in their careers and personal lives (ahem, Selena befriending Taylor Swift), which is totally normal and fine.

Whatever the thought process behind Demi's caption was, it's probably not worth worrying about. We can always secretly hope for Princess Protection Program 2, though.

A Deep Dive Into the 'Pretty Little Liars' Series Finale Trailer

Pretty Little Liars is finally coming to a close next week, and I can't decide if I'm excited to see how the show wraps up or dreading not having new episodes to watch! The series finale trailer already has me spinning, and I'm hoping we will finally uncover everything about A.D. and what will happen to the PLL ladies moving forward. Let's take a deeper look at the 30-second, action-packed trailer

The trailer eerily starts with flashes of the gang wearing those awful black A-team hoodies, reminding us how dark and twisted the game has made each of the players.

The creepiness just keeps going as we see a glimpse of the gang running through a dimly-lit hallway. What are they running from?? The anticipation is real.

When Spencer says, "There's only one rule: you don't look back," I'm not sure what to think. The girls always try to move forward but are constantly brought back to old mistakes, thanks to good ol' A.D. blackmailing them.

After everything Aria and Ezra have been through, they have to get married, right?

YASSSS, Spoby back together again.

Finally…

Mona slapping Spencer might be a little deserved after some of Spencer's comments in previous episodes, but the actual cause for this intense scene has to be good. (Twincer, perhaps?)

Why is Spencer waking up in a creepily lit bed? Where is she? Why is she there? So many questions.

The mini-Alison high schooler apparently has a fascination with Jenna, and Jenna is clearly not having it.

Wait, didn't we just see Spencer and Mary hugging in this same creepy room? Why is Mary turning on her own daughter?! (Again I ask, Twincer?)

Why is Wren firing a gun, and who is on the other end of this?!

If Mona can't even guess who A.D. is, how are we supposed to?

This trailer was packed with quick glimpses from the three-hour series finale, and I think I'm left with even more questions than answers. I'm not ready to say goodbye to PLL, but I'm more than ready for this game with A.D. to be over.

Miley Cyrus's Brother Is a Model for Dolce & Gabbana Now, & There's Some Drama

Miley Cyrus's younger brother, Braison, recently stepped out as a model for Dolce & Gabbana during the brand's Milan fashion show. While Miley showed support for her brother's latest career move, she had some choice words for the iconic Italian fashion brand.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the "Malibu" singer explained that while she was happy that Braison was trying out the model path, she strongly disagrees with the brand's political stance and their choice in continuing to support Melania Trump.

Congrats @braisonccyrus on walking in your 1st runway show.... It's never been my little brothers dream to be a model as HE is one of the most talented musicians my ears have ever been given the gift of hearing.... BUT it is a Cyrus family trait to try everything once (within reason HA) and to embrace opportunities that encourage you to step out of your comfort zone! We believe in trying something new everyday! I love you Prince Suga Bear and seriously congratulations on your experience! I am so proud of you always.... From Nashville to Italy!  PS D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics.... but I do support your company's effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!

A post shared by Miley Cyrus (@mileycyrus) on

Controversy over fashion brands' role in politics is nothing new. The list of designers who have publicly stated that they will not be associating with the family continues to grow, and includes big names like Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Phillip Lim and Naeem Khan. Dolce & Gabbana has made it clear that they don’t want to get involved in American politics, and doesn’t seem to care about who they dress. Basically, D&G has made it known that they’re just all about the fashion.

Designer Stefano Gabbana saw Cyrus's post and commented, calling her words "ignorant" and saying they would never work with her brother again, because of her "stupid comment." Gabbana then took to his own Instagram account, reposting Miley's photo of Braison, and expanding on his rant.

“We are Italian and we don’t care about politics and mostly neither about the American one!" he wrote. "We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it’s simply ignorant. We don’t need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!!  #boycottdolcegabbana.”

Dolce & Gabbana, in a gesture of mocking those who are claiming that they are going to stop buying from the expensive Italian brand, created a #BoycottDolceGabbana t-shirt that retails for $245. Something tells me that those who are actually angry at the brand for their political stance won’t be giving them that amount of money for a simple printed shirt anytime soon.

How to Prepare For Your Senior Year of College

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Eyeliner Wings & Pretty Things, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

I’m officially a senior in college. Yikes. It seems like just yesterday I was hanging up posters in my freshman year dorm and complaining about the lack of air conditioning. Senior year of high school was constantly filled with the pressure to make the most of everything whether it be prom or any random weekend in the year. I can only imagine senior year of college will be the same way except a million times worse because there’s not another round of schooling after (unless you’re headed to grad school or something).

While the pressure to make the most of everything is stressful, there is some good in it. I mean, we’re going to be graduating college, which, is a huge deal. While the senior year of college is undoubtedly going to be kind of sad, I have no doubt that it’ll be packed with fun memories and events. Here’s how to prepare for your senior year of college in order to ensure your year has the least stress and most fun possible. Or, at least, how you think I can and how I’ll try to. No stress is not guarunteed.

1. Make a senior year bucket list.

I suggest breaking it up into categories, one for “things” one for “places” and one for “food.” Research the prettiest hikes, most interesting museums, best food places and school traditions and compile a huge list for yourself. This will be perfect for weekends when you’re not sure what to do but you want to do something.

Some ideas for this might include attending the last homecoming game, getting the famous ice cream sundae from the local creamery, hosting a brunch with friends or even hiking the mountain near your college that you’ve been avoiding but secretly want to check out.

2. Make a list of companies you’d like to work for.

I’ve been keeping a running list since high school of my dream companies and it keeps on growing. This list will be incredibly helpful when you start your job hunt. It never hurts to start preparing for your job hunt and this is a fairly not stressful way to do so. I like to have my top five companies at the top of the list and then follow it with other companies I would also love to work for.

Tip: If you’re feeling extra, you can also add links to their “CAREERS” pages or the locations of the offices for future reference. Google Sheets is great for creating an in-depth and organized collection of these companies.

3. Refresh your LinkedIn.

Ensure that it’s updated with the latest information, follow a few people, make some new connections and make sure your picture is perfect. While LinkedIn may not be the most exciting platform, it can definitely be helpful to have an updated and clean page going into senior year. It can also be helpful to occasionally share interesting articles and posts to increase your LinkedIn activity.

Tip: I like to keep the LinkedIn app downloaded on my phone and share articles now and then when I’m commuting to my internship or walking to class. It’s a little more productive than just watching Snapchat stories or reading click bait on BuzzFeed (even though I do both of those things, too).

4. Start saving and keeping track of your finances.

Being a real adult is just around the corner. As I’ve mentioned many times before, I’m awful at keeping track of my finances. There are a ton of apps you can download to help you or you can even just download your bank’s app and keep an eye on it. When you graduate, it’ll be helpful to have some money saved.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West Have Reportedly Hired a Surrogate to Carry Their Third Child

Kim Kardashian is ready to add another bundle of joy to the Kardashian-West fam! And this time around, the mother of two is heeding her doctor's warning, since carrying another child herself could be life-threatening. People reports that Kim and Kanye have hired a surrogate to carry their third child, and we couldn't be more supportive of the couple and the extra precautions they're taking for Kim and their future baby's safety.

The road to motherhood has not been easy for Kim. During her pregnancy with daughter North, she suffered from preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication that involves high blood pressure and signs of harm to other organs, and placenta accreta, a condition where parts of the placenta grow deep into the wall of the uterus, according to Mayo Clinic.

The reality star has opened up to her family on Keeping Up With the Kardashians about wanting to expand her family but knew that carrying the baby herself would be dangerous. Kim has also been very open on her blog, voicing her concerns about her high-risk pregnancies and raising awareness about her condition. In one blog post, Kim goes into detail about what occurred during her delivery with North due to placenta accreta, and it sounds terrifying, to say the least.

"My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails," she wrote in the blog post. "How disgusting and painful!!! My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that—it was the most painful experience of my life! They gave me a second epidural but we were racing against time, so I just had to deal.”

When Kim came to the conclusion that surrogacy was her only option, stars like Chrissy Teigen and sister Khloé Kardashian offered to carry her child, according to People. TMZ reports that the surrogacy process is expensive, and the couple was required to put down a $68,850 deposit with the agency.

It's clear that Kim is one tough mama who will do whatever it takes to grow her family—we wish her and her family all the best.

Karlie Kloss Was Called Too Fat & Too Thin by an Agent on the Same Day, Which Is Bogus AF

If there's one thing that's certain in the world, it's that you can't please everyone—especially when their standards are extremely warped and unrealistic. It's no secret that the fashion world has pretty strict expectations when it comes to body image, and often they're extremely uncalled for. Just take Karlie Kloss—a highly successful model and self-proclaimed nerd who was told that she was too fat and too thin by a casting agent on the same day. Say what?!

During the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on Monday, the model sat on a panel with Hearst chief content officer Joanna Coles to discuss Kode with Klossy, a coding camp she started geared toward girls interested in computer science. However, the conversation also uncovered the unfortunate reality of what models encounter in the fashion industry. "I was called both too fat and too thin by a casting agent on the same day," she said.

Luckily, instead of allowing the negativity of the fashion world to tear her down, Kloss keeps focused on the important things. “I don’t want to please anyone but myself," she said. According to Page Six, Karlie was met with a standing ovation when she talked about how she aims to focus on her health and strength rather than her weight. Say it louder for the people in the back!

Although Kloss appreciates her fashion career, she claims that her passions also lie in the sciences. "At my core, I am totally a nerd. I love understanding how things work.” While it seems that the fashion world has not always been kind to Karlie, I admire her strength to rise above the negativity, as well as her dedication to inspire and educate young women through her love of computer science. Take that, haters.

Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Has Resigned as CEO Under Pressure From Investors

Uber founder Travis Kalanick stepped down from his position as CEO of the popular ridesharing service on Tuesday following a demand that he step down from their five major investors.

The New York Timesreports that these five investors wrote Kalanick letter titled “Moving Uber Forward.” The letter was obtained by the Times and demanded Kalanick’s immediate resignation in order to find new leadership.

Slate reports Kalanick had already announced last week that he was taking an indefinite leave of absence, but for Uber’s investors, this wasn’t good enough.

The investors' demand follows a slew of criticism from both inside and outside the company claiming Uber’s business tactics are greedy and its workplace culture is toxic and sexist. This view of the company became even more widespread after former Uber engineer Susan Fowler wrote a post describing the sexual harassment she had faced while working at Uber.

Kalanick has spoken up about his resignation in a statement issued shortly after the decision was made known. “I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors’ request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight,” he said in his statement. Kalanick's mother died at the end of May, which is what he may be referring to by "this difficult moment in my personal life."

Kalanick will remain on Uber’s board of directors for now, but the startup is officially on the lookout for a new chief executive.

The Officer Who Shot Philando Castile Said He Felt His Life Was in Danger Because He Smelled Weed in the Car

The Minnesota police officer who was recently acquitted for shooting and killing Philando Castile at a traffic stop last summer told state investigators that it was the smell of marijuana that made him fear for his life. The interview transcript was released Tuesday along with graphic video footage from a police dashcam showing the shooting of Castile, according to the New York Daily News.

In this interview, Officer Jeronimo Yanez said that Castile’s willingness to smoke marijuana in front of his then 4-year-old daughter and girlfriend made him believe Castile could be dangerous.

“I thought I was gonna die and I thought [if he has] the guts and the audacity to smoke marijuana in front of the five-year-old girl and risk her lungs and risk her life by giving her secondhand smoke and the front-seat passenger doing the same thing then what, what care does he give about me?” Yanez said.

Yanez also said Castile’s “wide set nose” appeared to match an armed robbery suspect’s profile, making him think Castile might have had the gun for a criminal reason. Castile had a legal permit to carry the gun.

The dashcam footage matches the Facebook Live video posted by Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, in which you can hear Castile clearly say, “I do have a firearm on me” and then assuring Yanez that he wasn’t pulling it out. Despite this, Yanez fired seven bullets into the vehicle and killed Castile. It took less than a minute for the encounter to turn deadly.

Yanez was acquitted of the murder earlier this week, causing outrage.

Karen Handel Just Became the First Republican Woman to Represent Georgia in 6th Congressional District

Former Georgia Secretary of State and Republican, Karen Handel pulled out a major party win last night in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, by barely defeating former Democratic Congressional Aide and documentary filmmaker Jon Ossoff, according to BuzzFeed News.

The election was viewed and critiqued on a national level because of the shifting party ties the district saw in the 2016 Presidential Election. President Donald Trump barely defeated Hillary Clinton in the same district last year, proving that with a strong enough candidate, Democrats could potentially overturn their state's 40-year Republican seat control.

However, as the votes rolled in, it was evident Handel would win, making her the first woman to represent Georgia in Congress. Handel, a politician who, according to The New York Times, has tried to keep her distance from the Trump administration, got more than $12 million in funding from outside conservative groups. Ossoff got similarly huge amounts of funding from outside liberals. With numbers like that, it’s no surprise that the election was the most expensive congressional contest in history, with funds exceeding $50 million, according to BuzzFeed News.

Upon Handel’s win, she thanked her fellow Republicans and acknowledged Ossoff’s graciousness in defeat, concluding, “We have had a legacy of tremendous leadership in the 6th District. Our very own Tom Price, who is now the secretary of [health and human services], now-Senator Johnny Isakson, and former speaker Newt Gingrich,” according to BuzzFeed News.

While the district remains under Republican control, Democrats are hopeful and eager to keep moving forward. Upon Ossoff’s loss, he addressed his supporters and eloquently stated, “We showed the world that in places where no one thought it was even possible to fight, we could fight. This is the beginning of something much bigger than us.”

How to Find Your Perfect Signature Scent

Chances are you have a full bathroom shelf devoted to different scents for every possible occasion. But why do we choose the perfumes that we have? More importantly, why do we have so many? Finding a signature scent can be vital to what makes you, you, and it’s not something to take lightly.

If you’re looking for a new fragrance to add to your collection, or trying to whittle down the collection you already have, it’s important to consider every aspect of your perfume-buying process.

Whether you’re looking to wear something popular or something that matches your personality, here are some top tips on finding the perfect signature fragrance.

1. Investigate

Before you go out and buy something that you may or may not like, it’s good to figure out what scents appeal to you. It’s never good to buy something with the hopes of wearing it, just to have it sit on your shelf for months. "OsMoz and Basenotes are great sources for this information," says Nick Gilbert, perfume writer and expert. "With these tools, you can find other fragrances in similar families or with similar notes. But do keep in mind that a list of notes is like a list of colours used in a painting—they won’t tell you everything, and the combination of effects is what is truly important.”

2. Spend time with it

Even if you like the way something initially smells, you don’t know if the smell will get old.

“Try fragrances on strips to get an idea about whether you’d like to wear it. Then, wear it!," says Gilbert. "Put the fragrance on, and walk away from the counter or sales person. Spend some time, see what it does on your skin. Your nose may get tired of the fragrance. Step outside, or drink some water to help reset your nose."

A lot of big-name stores that sell perfume, like Sephora, will give you tester tubes of scents (just ask the salesperson!). It’s a good idea to utilize these tester vials because they usually contain enough perfume to last a few days. Taking a vial home with you lets you try the scent on and wear it around to your classes, study sessions and work.

3. Weigh your options

While living on a college budget, it can be tempting to settle for cheap perfume. After all, cheaper perfume is better than no perfume, right? Wrong. While buying from cheaper places like Bath & Body Works may seem like a good idea at the time, there is something to be said about price versus quality. To truly impress, it may be a better idea to splurge on something that’s higher quality. “A bargain fragrance will be a bargain experience, for the most part," says Gilbert. "That being said, there’s a point where the cost no longer has any reference to the quality and is simply about the luxury status of the fragrance."

Even if you have to buy a smaller bottle because of this price, it’s always good to treat yourself. If something that’s cheaper won’t hold up or last a long time, go the extra mile and spend on what you know will last.

4. Switch it up

One of the reasons that people have the aforementioned stash of perfume is because they like to switch it up depending on their mood or the season. Even if you do have a signature scent that you like, it’s a good idea to switch up what you wear. This lets you give your nose a break while still making sure you smell delightful. Your perfume should be able to match your mood, whether it's the calming scent of lavender, or more summer-specific citrus.

Gilbert agrees: “Think of your fragrances as a wardrobe. You should have something casual to wear for relaxation, something a little more formal for the office, something sexy for date nights, and then seasonally freshness for summer and coziness for winter. Those ‘categories’ aren’t set in stone, and vary according to personal preference. Spending the time to figure out what you like in fragrance will give you the confidence to create that wardrobe and LIVE it. You’ll soon be picking fragrances to wear with different moods like second nature.”

Confidence is everything. If you’re someone who tends to like change, then you should probably consider investing in more than one signature smell. If you want a different scent for every season, or even for every mood, do what works best for you.

Once you’ve found the perfect fragrance for you, sit back and enjoy. Just remember to apply it correctly, and you'll be rocking your signature scent all day long!

College is one of those things you either hate or love. Even though we can all agree that college is necessary for success and has given us some of the most rewarding moments of our lives, there are certain aspects that we could ~definitely~ do without.

1. Doing your own laundry

Hard pass.

2. Waking up to an alarm clock

Remember in high school when your mom would still wake you up in the morning?

3. Actually reading all the 500-page novels assigned to you

SparkNotes just doesn’t cut it anymore.

4. Eating healthy

Four days in a row of eating pizza doesn't cut it when you literally need to chow down on protein or you won't make it through the day.

5. Noisy neighbors

You thought you would love the social aspect of the campus, but not when you have a huge exam tomorrow.

6. Budgeting

NO.

7. Being truly on your own

You could really use a hug from your parents right now.

8. When eating at the dining hall means choosing the lesser of two evils

*gagging noises*

9. Walking everywhere

Can someone just drive to class on a golf cart today?

10. Being late to class but not wanting to run there

I will not embarrass myself.

11. Not having access to cable

We love Netflix, but still.

12. Having to make it through a two-hour class without a break

The struggle is so real.

13. FINANCIAL AID

Getting it is great, but paying it back? Not so much.

14. Having to rely on your university store for all your supplies

Where is Target when you need it?

15. Trying to balance class and extracurriculars

Obama could proabably fix that.

16. Handling the absurd weather of your college town

A 'Bachelor in Paradise' Contract Was Leaked & Its Terms Are Pretty Strict

Following the announcement that Season 4 of Bachelor in Paradise will resume filming after an investigation determined that no sexual misconduct occurred on set, CNNMoney has tracked down a BiP contestant contract that explains a lot, Refinery29 reports.

CNN consulted legal experts to decipher the exact meaning of the contract’s terms and came to the conclusion that once a contestant signs the agreement, he or she waives rights to “refute or take legal recourse” about whatever happens during the show. Even worse, signing the contract also destroys cast members’ rights over whatever is done in the footage’s editing. This explains some BiP moments where contestants’ interviews may not align with what happens in the moment—legally, producers can get away with putting a twist on things because the cast has agreed to it.

According to entertainment attorney Nicole Page in an interview with CNNMoney, the contract’s rules mean that producers “can basically take your image and do whatever [they] want with it and [they] own it and [contestants] have no recourse.” The agreement also states that cast members must not partake in “unlawful behavior or harassment.”

What’s even more disturbing is that these rules appear frequently in the world of reality TV. Given the recent BiP scandal between current contestants Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson, it’s interesting to note that the show’s contract also prevents producers taking responsibility if a cast member is injured, “even if that injury comes from unwanted sexual conduct.”

The legal consultants also determined that enforcing the law would trump the contract’s rules if a crime happened on set. As Olympios’ legal team is continuing its own investigation despite Warner Bros.’ ruling of no sexual misconduct, this little detail of the contract could come into play in future weeks. With this new perspective of what the BiP cast agreed to, Bachelor Nation will certainly keep a close eye on any related legal developments.

A Dean at Yale Has Resigned After Getting in Trouble for Writing Offensive Yelp Reviews

A dean at Yale University has resigned after she was placed on leave for writing offensive Yelp reviews, The New York Timesreports. June Y. Chu published several reviews in which she spoke poorly of patrons at a Japanese restaurant and a movie theater, among other establishments. She found herself in trouble last month when the university’s newspaper, The Yale Daily News, published screenshots of the reviews.

Reviewing a Japanese restaurant, Pierson College dean Chu wrote, “If you are white trash, this is the perfect night out for you!” When writing about a movie theater, she discussed the concession workers, calling them “barely educated morons trying to manage snack orders for the obese and also try to add $7 plus $7.”

According to the Daily News’ piece, the majority of the reviews were posted following Chu’s appointment to her position in May 2016. When the reviews leaked to the school, Chu deleted her Yelp account and emailed an apology to residential students. “My remarks were wrong,” her message read. “Not only were they insensitive in matters related to class and race; they demean the values to which I hold myself and which I offer as a member of this community.”

The student body learned of Chu’s resignation through an email from the head of Pierson College’s administrative office, Stephen Davis. “I write to let you know that Dean Chu has left her position…and wishes the best to the students,” Davis wrote. “As a result, I am initiating the process of the search for a new dean, who will be in place before the start of the fall term.”

Chu’s fall from grace ignited strong feelings from Pierson residents, particularly those identifying as minorities. “It is always so refreshing to see an Asian-American woman in leadership positions, and many of my female and POC friends were eager to see what she would do for us,” Yale student Kelsang Dolma told the Daily News when Chu was put on leave. “This incident has left me and other Piersonites disillusioned.”

A Daily News article reporting Chu’s resignation claims that the Yale College dean did not ask for her notice.
