Sexual lubricants can be a fantastic addition to the bedroom. However, there’s a stigma surrounding the use of lube, especially among young adults. One common misconception is that if you need to use lube during sex, then you’re not doing it right, or you’re just not aroused enough. Some young women may even feel embarrassed or ashamed to use lube in their sexual encounters for these reasons. We spoke to a few collegiettes about three reasons why using lube is important and sometimes necessary for your sexual health, because no one should feel ashamed to have safer, more comfortable and more enjoyable sex!

1. It makes sex safer

Typically, condoms and birth control are among the very first things that come to mind when thinking about safe sex. However, if you’re skipping out on lube, you might want to rethink that the next time around. Sexual lubricants are a huge part of safe sex and birth control, as they reduce friction and decrease the likelihood of a condom breaking.

Sure, most condoms do come with a little bit of lube on the outside, but it’s not enough to help in certain cases, such as vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can occur for a number of reasons in collegiettes, birth control pills being one of them. The latex from the condoms can also be a huge culprit. Anna*, a sophomore at Carthage College, says that she can’t rely on the lubrication from a condom alone.

“I’ve found that ever since I’ve started taking birth control pills, I just can’t produce a lot of natural lubrication, no matter how aroused I am,” Anna explains. “Before I started using lube, having sex with condoms could get quite uncomfortable. There was even a time when the condom began to slip off during withdrawal because I was so dry (yikes!). Now I always use lube, even if I’m very aroused.”

Some collegiettes may feel embarrassed or ashamed to use lube in these cases because they think they’re not aroused enough and they don’t want to hurt their partner’s feelings. However, whether vaginal dryness is something you’re dealing with or not, it’s always worth it to have that extra safety during sex, especially if you rely on condoms. “Adding lubricant helps reduce friction and gives me peace of mind that there shouldn’t be any issues with the condom,” Anna adds. Just make sure that you’re using the correct type of lube, as not all lubricants are condom friendly!

2. It makes sex less painful

As mentioned before, lube helps reduce friction and dryness during sex, two big factors that can lead to painful sex. Sometimes, sex can be painful because it’s your first time, or the foreplay didn’t last long enough. Maybe your partner is, ahem, well-endowed, and it’s a bit painful on your end, or you’re looking to try sex from a different end (if you catch our drift). Sex shouldn’t be painful, however, and there’s no shame in using lube during sex, whether it’s your first time or far from it. Lube helps everything move a lot smoother (literally), and when everything is groovy down there, you can spend more time focusing on you and your partner instead of worrying about the pain.

3. It makes sex more enjoyable

Who doesn’t want more enjoyable sex? Sara*, a sophomore at Illinois State University, sees no shame in adding lube during sex for some extra fun. “There’s nothing wrong with stopping to apply some lubricant,” says Sara. “It makes sex enjoyable for both parties, which is the whole point of sex, anyway.” Using lube during foreplay and right before sex can lead to bigger and better moments and steamier sessions because you both can finally enjoy safer, painless sex — you can even add stimulating and flavored lubes to help spice up both oral and penetrative sex.

“I think there's a stigma surrounding them like 'real' women shouldn't need lubricants, but it's impossible to stay lubricated enough the entire time you're having sex, especially if you tend to go at it for a while,” says Sara.

While there are still some misconceptions out there about the use of lube, there are so many benefits and added perks to incorporating sexual lubricants into your sex life that you may be missing out on! At the end of the day, ensuring that the sex you have is more safe, comfortable and enjoyable hopefully outweighs any embarrassment that you might feel about using lube. Have fun and be safe!

Our favorite Monday night pastime is back and weirder than ever! Season 13 of The Bachelorette premiered with an introduction to arguably the most beloved Bachelorette yet, Rachel Lindsay. For most of us, graduation is around the corner or already here. Soon, you will be sent out into the real world with a degree in one hand and a resume in the other, seeking to make something of yourself and prove to your parents that your college tuition was worth it.

One of the best things you can do for yourself right after graduating is taking a social media break. For months now, your primary interaction with your friends may have been commenting on Facebook study groups for finals, liking friends’ photos of their final transcripts and posting a play-by-play of your own process preparing for graduation in order to keep extended family in the loop.

You may have spent the past several weeks responding to comments like “What’s next???” and “Any jobs lined up?” and “You’re going to change the world!!!!” There’s an immense amount of pressure on college graduates to immediately show everyone what they can do now that they’ve completed their education, akin to a rat race. Rather than subjecting yourself to that, consider spending some time disconnected right after graduation.

1. It will stop you comparing yourselves to your peers

Once you’ve all earned your degrees, everyone’s lives will begin taking different paths. Where before all your peers were, like you, completing the same final steps in college, suddenly everyone is forging their own unique path, and it’s going to be next to impossible not to compare yourself to your classmates.

Oh, look! Jaimey just got a job at the National Institute for Public Health Research. Matthew is somehow already setting up a non-profit. Ari got accepted to the dream grad school you eventually plan on applying to, and they’re going to give her a stipend.

“One of the worst things after graduation was that deep anxiety I felt about facing the real world and real problems,” says Janet Leith, a Colombia University graduate who nixed her social media accounts soon after graduation. “Seeing some of the success my friends were having and posting about on Facebook made me feel worse. I felt a pressure to advertise my own successes on social media and in the end, I decided I didn’t need that in my life.”

Janet says she has much more time to focus on what she wants and what’s important to her now, and couldn’t be happier. By taking some time off social media, you can avoid the urge to compete with your classmates to prove you’re most successful after college, and you can stop beating yourself up if you see classmates outshining you after college.

2. It will help you develop discipline and self-control

Part of the problem with social media is our habit of being deeply sucked into it. Once you realize you can theoretically stay in touch with absolutely anyone at all times with your phone, it’s hard to avoid checking Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat every hour or whenever you get a new notification. Developing discipline over your social media habits can be a particularly hard challenge, particularly for millennials who have grown up with social media as both a viable career choice and a way to manage their social lives.

“My Facebook and Twitter were covered in embarrassing and impulsive things I had done during college,” says Amy Lau, a graduate of Syracuse University. “I knew this was not the image I wanted to present to the world when I was entering professional life, so the easiest thing for me was to disconnect from all of them.” 

By taking time to disconnect yourself from your social media accounts, even for just a few weeks, you can learn to survive without the constant updates and need to interact with people online, giving you more chance to appreciate the world around you, and learn to appreciate getting news in smaller chunks throughout the day, rather than receive a constant stream of updates.

3. It will help you recharge and reinvigorate your IRL relationships

Right after you graduate, you’re going to be experiencing an influx of emotions, such as jealousy directed at peers who appear to have immediately jumped into dream careers, exhaustion after completing a four-year challenge, the feeling of being overwhelmed by the options and choices ahead of you and the sense that you now have to figure out what to do with the rest of your life.

That’s an immense amount of pressure, and trying to go through it all with everyone’s lives on display online can make you feel deeply overwhelmed or depressed. Take some time to disconnect from social media after you get your degree in order to prioritize your own needs, your own time and face-to-face interaction. After all, in the rush to graduate you may have found yourself neglecting friendships, face time with peers, normal human interactions that can easily fall to the wayside in the modern, rushed world.

Social media is part of networking for jobs after graduation, which means once you start getting into the job-searching game, you’re probably going to need to get your social media accounts back up and running as soon as possible. By taking some time to recuperate after completing your degree, you can take some time to address any stress, sleep deprivation, body aches and pains and other signs of bodily neglect you have have neglected while preparing for graduation.

At least 22 people are dead and 59 injured after a bomb exploded outside the Manchester Arena on Monday night. At the end of an Ariana Grande concert, a sole bomber attacked the arena's foyer as fans and their families exited the building.

According to The New York Times, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which is the deadliest terrorist attack in the UK since the 2005 London bombings. Police believe a suicide bomber who died in the blast is to blame, but CNN reports that another 23-year-old man was arrested in South Manchester Tuesday morning in connection to the attack.

Grande had already left the stage when the explosion struck around 10:30 p.m. Chaos ensued as fans, many of whom were children and teenagers, ran through the building to safety. Large crowds left the arena in a panic, separating from their families and friends among a sea of pink balloons leftover from the concert.

One eyewitness, Nick Haywood, a father whose 16-year-old daughter attended the concert, explained the scene to BBC. "You could feel it, you could feel the noise. It was incredibly loud. My first thought was to find my daughter," he said. "People were already starting to filter out. You could tell something was wrong, no one was laughing or chatting. Some people were running, a bit of mild panic." 

Haywood's daughter Caitlyn was near the front of the stage when the explosion happened. "As soon as Ariana Grande left, the lights went out and the bomb went off," she said. "That made me think that this person planned it so well."

According to The Telegraph, three of the victims' names have since been released: 8-year-old Saffie Rose Roussos, 18-year-old Georgina Callander and 26-year-old John Atkinson. Several teenagers remain missing as desperate loved ones turn to social media to find them using the Twitter hashtag #MissingInManchester. 

As condolences spread across social media, Grande issued a statement on Twitter Monday night. "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words," she wrote.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Ian Hopkins said in a statement, "This has been the most horrific incident we have had to face in Greater Manchester and one we all hoped we would never see. Families and many young people were out to enjoy a concert at the Manchester Arena and have lost their lives."

According to Hopkins, the investigation is "fast-moving" with over 400 officers involved in the operation.

The new season of The Bachelorette premiered Monday night, and Rachel Lindsay's group of men did not disappoint! A little black crop top has become the new little black dress. Pretty much every girl owns one, and it's an essential part of her wardrobe. Pippa Middleton first stole our hearts at the Royal Wedding in 2011 when her sister married Prince William. As the maid of honor, Pippa wore a sleek, form-fitting dress that suited her frame perfectly, thus making her an object of admiration in the media. This past Saturday, Pippa married hedge fund manager James Matthews at the St. Mark's Church in Engelfield, England. Suffice it to say Pippa stole our hearts once again when she walked into the church wearing a handcrafted Giles Deacon dress. Unfortunately, Pippa's wedding day body was the result of a crazy new fad diet called the Sirtfood Diet.

According to E!, Middleton was following this diet in the weeks leading up to her big day. The Sirtfood Diet, created by Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten, involves eating foods rich in polyphenols, which can impact a person's metabolism, aging, and mood. Some of these sirtfoods are dark chocolate, red wine, kale, and olive oil. The main problem with this diet is that it basically calls for starvation in the first phase of the dieting process; in the first three days of phase one, you can only have one meal and three sirtfood green juices, which only amounts to 1,000 calories for the entire day! To put this in perspective, the minimum number of calories you should consume in a day is 1,200. Anything under that can harm your health.

In an interview with The Cut, registered dietician Brigitte Zeitlin talks about the dangers of the Sirtfood Diet. "In addition to not giving yourself the proper energy and nutrients you need each day you're on this fad diet, eventually you're going to go off of it. You're going to gain all of the weight you lost back, and more often than not, you're going to gain even more weight back."

Obviously Pippa Middleton is a grown woman who can do what she wants with her body, but her choice to participate in such an extreme diet sheds a light on another pervasive problem: the culture of losing weight for your wedding day. Former First Lady Michelle Obama has been known as one of America's most fashion-forward First Ladies since her husband first took office in 2008. In the last nine years, we have seen Michelle sport countless silk shirts, beautifully intricate gowns and traditional pencil skirts. I think it goes without saying that she looked fabulous in all outfits. Now that Michelle is no longer First Lady, we are getting a better feel for how she likes to dress in her free time, and I am loving it! Yesterday, she was spotted in an adorable off-the shoulder blouse while shopping in Tuscany, Italy.

The flowy, white blouse screamed "VACATION VIBES" with its beautiful lace detailing and ruffles. Michelle tucked the blouse into a pair of high-waisted, army green cargo pants, giving the ensemble an airy feel. The oxblood tote added a nice pop of color and the simple slides finished off the comfortable-yet-chic look. The relaxed effect the outfit provided was a sharp contrast to the usual business attire we are used to seeing Michelle Obama in, but I can't get enough of the new side of her I am seeing.

Last Thursday, Selena Gomez released the "Bad Liar" music video on Spotify, and I am surprised by the casual appearance the artist chose to show, rather than the more intricate attire she has worn in past videos. In real life though, Selena Gomez is known for her carefree attitude, most of the time sporting little makeup, and just recently, rocking the short hair.

In the "Bad Liar" video, she further shows this carefree side of her by wearing lingerie and a simple vintage t-shirt. With Katy Perry’s musical return came “Swish, Swish,” which has reopened the can of worms that is her feud with Taylor Swift. What will it take for it all to end? Katy shared the answer to that question with James Corden on his Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special Monday.

During the segment, Perry talked about her new track and the “situation” between her and T. Swift. “Honestly, it’s really like she started it and it’s time for her to finish it,” Katy said.

Whoa, what?! If you’re wondering what needs to be finished, the feud goes back to 2014 (yeah, it’s that drawn out) when some of Katy’s dancers briefly left her for Taylor’s tour. According to Perry, they later asked to rejoin her tour, which sparked the beef and “Bad Blood.”

Katy told Corden that she tried to talk to Tay about the dancers prior to the release of "Bad Blood." “She wouldn’t speak to me. I do the right thing anytime that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shut-down and then she writes a song about me and I’m like, ‘OK, cool cool cool. That’s how you want to deal with it?'” Perry said.

Well, looks like the ball is in Taylor's court and the situation can only be fixed if she apologizes. Katy said if Taylor texted her, it would be enough to put this all to rest. "Yeah, absolutely, 100 percent."

It's that time of the year again! No, not time to elect a new president. It's time for the president to present his yearly budget proposal—and not that many of us were looking forward to it. POTUS has no Constitutional power to actually pass a budget, but he explains his desires to Congress in a proposal and then hopes that they follow along.

While USA Today says we shouldn't expect Congress to do anything with it, this proposal helps the president broadcast his vision to the American people, and is a bit of a glimpse into how he thinks the country should be run.

So, what exactly is in this proposal? Here are some of the highlights:

Strengthening The Border

According to The New York Times, the budget proposal calls for a 10 percent increase in military spending, and requests $1.6 billion just to "build the wall" at the Mexican border—so at the moment, there are no plans for Mexico to pay for it. Other expenses, including the wall, add up to $2.6 billion just for border security.

Paid Leave for New Parents

President Trump's daughter Ivanka is requesting $19 billion over 10 years for her program—providing six weeks of paid leave for new parents, including adoptive parents. 

Cuts for Medicaid, Welfare and Disability

The most controversial part of this bill is the distribution of money away from the poor and the elderly. Trump wants to cut $800 billion from Medicaid (state health insurance programs for the poor), and $272 billion from welfare benefits. Pretty much any domestic program other than military and homeland security is to be cut, by about 11 percent.

The proposal also calls for $192 billion cut from nutritional assistance for the elderly, which lawmakers from both sides of the aisle aren't too happy about. Republican Mark Meadows, who represents North Carolina, told the Times he "couldn't stomach the idea" of getting rid of food assistance. "Meals on Wheels," he said, "may be a bridge too far."

President Trump is currently overseas, so he hasn't had much to say about this proposal. However, budget experts and lawmakers have had a lot to say. Minority leader Chuck Schumer says "the good news is that it was likely to be roundly rejected by members of both parties here in the Senate, just as the last budget was.”

President Donald Trump's eight-day visit to multiple countries, which will be his first overseas trip as president, is fully underway - but one particular thing from the trip has grabbed the Internet's attention. Two separate times on the trip, FLOTUS Melania Trump has appeared to refuse to hold Donald's hand - and people are freaking out over the video evidence.

On Monday, the Trumps landed in Tel Aviv for their two-day trip to Israel. The cameras caught them leaving Air Force One and walking down a red carpet to greet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - and as POTUS offers the first lady his hand, she aggresively swats it away. (And I'm not going to lie, it looks pretty purposeful.)

It clearly wasn't a one-time thing, either. As they deplaned in Rome on Tuesday, things got equally cringe-y when Donald attempted to hold Melania's hand and was rebuffed again as she reached up to fix her hair instead.

Awk. While People reports that the Trumps have been seen holding hands at other parts on the trip, this definitely raises some questions, and for obvious reasons, the incidents went viral. TBH, in any case, it looks like FLOTUS really isn't having it with the hand-holding.

It's been over 10 years since High School Musical basically made our entire childhoods by premiering on Disney Channel, and if that makes you feel super old (same), don't freak out just yet - because Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel, a.k.a. Ryan and Sharpay Evans, basically just proved our childhoods are alive and well with a HSM reunion.

The two recently teamed up on Ashley's YouTube channel to give fans a new rendition of the song "What I've Been Looking For." (Which, be honest, we all still know every word to.) As you might imagine, it is everything.

In the video, the on-screen brother-sister duo also let fans in on the details about what filming the *iconic* movie was like - and revealed that they actually didn't get along during the filming. (I know, I'm just as shook as you are.)

"We were not close. We were not good friends, let's be honest," Ashley says in the video. "It's been 10 years, we can totally talk about this now. We hated each other, like I'm not kidding." Lucas totally agrees, saying, "We did not get off on the right foot."

While things were rocky at first, they add that after filming wrapped, they warmed up to each other. Phew.

Now all we need is a Gabrielle and Troy reunion, obviously. Even though it seems unlikely considering the former couple are apparently no longer on speaking terms, we can keep dreaming, right?
