Miley Cyrus Said That "I Kissed a Girl" Is About Her

It was the most scandalous song in middle school, but now Katy Perry’s hit song “I Kissed A Girl” has a whole new meaning to it. Refinery29 reports that in a recent radio interview, Miley Cyrus confirmed that she’s the elusive girl that the song covers. Hmm, did you see that one coming?

According to Miley, when the song hit the radio in 2008, she was busy filming Hannah Montana: The Movie and then heard that Katy said the song was about her in an interview. “They said, ‘Who did you write that about?’” Miley revealed in the radio interview. “She said me! I screamed and started freaking out, and then she asked me to go to the VMAs with her.”

There is some uncertainty about the truth of Miley’s story, as Katy has never come clean about the girl's identity, but Miley and Katy did indeed parade down the red carpet together at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. They even kissed that night, so with that throwback in mind, we’re not too surprised that Katy’s song may be about Miley! Most importantly, the two singers remain friends to this day, which shows that music can start some beautiful friendships.

The Justice Department Appointed a Former FBI Director to Oversee the Investigation of Trump's Ties to Russia

It’s been a whirlwind week for President Trump following his decision to fire FBI director James Comey, who was leading an investigation of Trump’s alleged connections to Russia during his presidential campaign. Although Comey might not be involved in this mission anymore, the Justice Department has now appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as a special counsel for the investigation, the New York Timesreports.

Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller, shared with the Times, “I determined that it is in the public interest for me to exercise my authorities and appoint a special counsel to assume responsibility for this matter. My decision is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted. I have made no such determination.”

Mueller would still be under Rosenstein’s command (and technically still in Trump’s control), but will have more power to explore the issue with or without the Justice Department being aware of his doings. He will also have the ability to request special resources for his job. Having worked under both Democratic and Republican presidents for over 10 years, he definitely seems to be a trustworthy force.

“You need an independent assessment of what the president has done, how he has done it and perhaps why he has done it,” said John S. Pistole, the former FBI deputy director. “The appointment of Director Mueller is exactly what is needed to attempt to bring credibility to the White House when there are so many questions about the president’s actions and motives.”

Seeing how complex this investigation is becoming, Mueller may be just what the country needs to provide some much-needed answers and clarification.

15 Things You're Only Afraid of Because of 'Grey's Anatomy'

If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent many nights avoiding your responsibilities and binge-watching the roller coaster that is Grey’s Anatomy. At this point we're 13 seasons in and there’s not much that would surprise us, but there are plenty of things the show has ruined for us. Here are 15 things you’re only afraid of because of Grey’s Anatomy.

(Before we go any further, there are spoilers below, obv.)

1. Planes

After the infamous plane crash that claimed the lives of two major characters, you’re now triggered whenever a main character gets on a plane—and you might do a double take when you have to get on a plane, too.

2. Poison oak in places poison oak doesn’t belong

Who can forget the time Addison peed outside while living in Derek’s trailer and got poison oak?

3. Getting hit by a bus

We lost our first original intern to a bus, but the actual chances of that happening are slim. Although you might still look at buses a little differently.

4. Getting impaled by a pole

Back in Season 2, during “Into You Like a Train,” two victims of a train crash were impaled by a steel rod, and the doctors had to choose which one to save and which one to pull off. There’s probably not even a statistic for the chances of this happening, but it still gave you the chills to think about.

5. Being left at the altar

You think you’ve found the one, you’re about to get married, and then… nothing. You get left at the altar like Cristina. You still haven’t forgiven Burke for it.

6. Having in-laws that want to shave your eyebrows

Maybe Cristina dodged a bullet by being left at the altar, after all.

7. Falling in love with a guy and then finding out he has a wife

Or maybe a girlfriend, since we’re still in college. Either way, not cool.

8. Bombs—like, literal bombs

Especially having your hand on a bomb that could go off if you move at all. No pressure or anything.

9. Having to cut the LVAD wire of the man you love

Love makes you do crazy things. R.I.P. Denny.

10. Getting a brain tumor and hallucinating about ghost sex

Even if you liked Izzy, that was still a little weird. But hey, anything is possible on Grey’s Anatomy

11. Your mom hooking up with your coworker—and accidentally reading their sexts

Parents’ private lives should stay private, but poor Jackson didn’t get that luxury. If you’re anything like us, you probably cringed throughout that whole episode.

12. Getting impaled by an icicle

Seriously, what are the chances?!

13. Shonda Rhimes

Rhimes is the writer of the show and constantly ruins your day since all your favorite characters are in the palm of her hand.

14. "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol

Because you know by now that nothing good has ever come from that song playing during an episode of Grey’s.

15. And "How to Save a Life" by The Fray

You know things are about to go down and someone is probably going to die when you hear this song.

All of CBS's New Fall Shows Star Men & the Network Chief Defended It

Finding out what kind of TV shows are hitting the networks every fall is basically my Christmas, but when it came to this year’s CBS lineup, it was a bit like getting the same gifts two years in a row. After debuting a fall lineup with six shows all starring white males last year, CBS’s upcoming fall lineup includes five shows with white male stars and one featuring former Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore. Um, where are the ladies, CBS?

Entertainment Weekly reports that in response to the male-dominated programming, CBS chief Les Moonves said at a press event, “More women watch CBS, percentage-wise, than any other network, so our shows have a lot of female appeal…We do a number of pilots, a lot of them have women in starring roles. There are a lot of women on the schedule. The best pilots win at the end of the day. And we think our track record is okay.”

Although Moonves is not entirely in the wrong—CBS currently airs the hit Madam Secretary and has had success with female-centric The Good Wife and its recent spinoff The Good Fight—one reporter didn’t let him off easy, pointing out other networks’ efforts to make sure women are well-represented in the industry and wondering, “It seems like you guys might be facing in the wrong direction?”

Moonves defended the network, saying, “I don’t think that’s the case…When I look at the totality of what CBS is, I look at news, I look at daytime, I look at sports, I look at Showtime, I look at The CW. And when you look at the totality of that…I think we’re doing a very good job. I don’t think we’re looking in the wrong direction, on the contrary.”

CBS may have a decent record of highlighting female stars on its shows, but the fact that such a lack of diversity occurred twice in a row is concerning during this golden age of TV. Here’s hoping for a better lineup next year!

How to Deal When Your Best Friend is Dating Someone You Hate

$

You sit on your bed alone on a Saturday night, endlessly bored and way too single. Just a few weeks ago, your best friend and you were spending the weekend binging your latest Netflix hang-up. Now, she’s hopelessly obsessed with her SO — and to make it worse, you can’t stand the sight of him or her.

It can be really difficult when your best friend gets into a relationship that you don’t approve of. In the end, you know it’s their decision, but you can’t help that nagging feeling in the back of your head that he or she isn’t right for them. Thankfully, we’ve collaborated with experts on romance and etiquette to give you the run-down on what to do in this situation — read on to find out.

1. Identify why you dislike their SO

Before you can come to terms with your BFF’s relationship, first you have to identify why their SO bothers you so much. Even if you think you know why, spell it out so you don’t have any misconceptions — where does your dislike come from?

Jasbina Ahluwalia, a relationship expert, matchmaker and the founder of Intersections Match by Jasbina, gave us a few common reasons. “There are numerous reasons, which fall into three categories, and possibly a combination of the three,” she says. Her categories are listed below.

1. You may dislike their SO’s behavior towards you.

  • You may feel slighted by what you perceive to be rude or disrespectful behavior towards you by their SO.

2. You may disapprove of the relationship itself for some reason.

  • He/she isn’t who you would pick for your best friend.
  • You feel that he/she is not good enough for your best friend.
  • You feel that he/she mistreats your best friend.
  • Your best friend might complain about him/her to you.

3. You may feel left out or envious.

  • You might not have an SO yourself, and wish you did.
  • You feel like your friend no longer has time for you due to the relationship.

By understanding why you don’t like your best friend’s SO, you can learn to tackle the problem head-on. It will help you determine whether your dislike is warranted. For example, if you are genuinely concerned for your best friend’s well-being in a potentially abusive relationship, that’s a different matter entirely. You should always look out for your best friend. Pull her aside sometime and talk to her about the situation — if she admits that she’s being abused, encourage her to leave the relationship and seek out help from the appropriate authorities if necessary.

Additionally, maybe you simply feel jealous. It’s easy to feel left out when your best friend, who usually spends her weekends with you, is now fawning over her new boyfriend –   especially when you don’t have an SO of your own. Focus on yourself if that’s the case, and maybe even head out on a date or two. Who knows, you might be double-dating with your BFF soon enough! Follow the steps below to start moving past your dislike of your friend’s SO.

2. Get to know your best friend’s SO

Even if you can’t stand the sight of him or her, get past your initial hatred and try to get to know them. They might be a nice person inside – and that’s what your best friend fell in love with. Plan some time to hang out with them either alone or with a group of friends. If you only see them when they’re with your best friend, you may dislike them purely because of feeling like a 'third wheel.'

Jasbina Ahluwalia gives you a great idea to approach a mutual understanding. “Try a counter-intuitive gesture of kindness towards him or her, and see if your feelings start to take a turn in a positive direction,” she says. “Why would that happen? Your kind gesture creates cognitive dissonance – which your mind might try to resolve by finding reasons to like him. Also, ask your friend to share with you all the good things about her boyfriend – there may be a side of him that you’re not seeing.”

If your best friend’s SO is a private person, they might come off as dislikeable from the outset. Take time to get to know him or her so you don’t come to any conclusions too fast. They might actually be a great person for your best friend. On the other hand, if her SO is outright rude to you, something’s up. Talk to your best friend about the situation and let her know you’re not comfortable around him. This is a case-by-case scenario, so work out a plan with your BFF that’ll lighten the relationship between you and her SO.

3. Remember that your friend’s happiness is most important

Even if you still don’t see why your best friend is dating him or her, you should let your concerns go if you see that your friend is truly happy. In the end, that’s what matters more than anything. Maybe her eyes sparkle when she sees a text from her SO, or you see her light up when her SO comes into view. While it’s great to look out for your friend, there’s a point when you need to realize that ultimately, her happiness is your happiness.

If your best friend’s SO still bothers you immensely, give your friend some space. Respect that her SO makes her happy, and be happy for her in turn –   just take a break and hang out with some other friends in the meantime. You don’t have to force yourself to spend time with them. After a while, the honeymoon period of their relationship will cool down, and by then you’ll probably feel comfortable with hanging out more often again.

However, it’s a different situation entirely if you know that your friend’s SO hasn’t been treating her right. Maybe you’ve heard some gossip that she doesn’t know about, or you’ve seen a few suspicious text messages on his or her phone. If you have reason to think that the SO might eventually hurt your best friend, don’t stand by. Find out more, and if you have reasonable cause, let your best friend know that something’s up. It might save her a lot of heartbreak in the future.

4. Preserve your friendship

All too often, friendships crumble amid the whirlwind of a new relationship –   especially when dislike of an SO comes into play. While you want to give your friend some space, be careful not to let your friendship fizzle out.

Jodi R. R. Smith, president of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting, gives you tips on how to maintain contact during this tricky situation. “First, give her some space especially at the beginning of the relationship,” she says. “Once the newness normalizes, schedule some girl-time. Second, never make her feel like she needs to choose between you and her SO. Make sure she knows that even though you are not spending as much time together, you are always there for her.”

It can be hard to make a friendship work when a new SO comes into the mix, but make an effort to reach out to your friend and things will be all right. Everyone needs time away from their SO, even your seemingly-obsessed best friend. Good luck, collegiettes!

For most of us, motherhood is a vision very far in the VERY distant future. Now, that doesn't mean we don't spend time imaging what that future part of our lives will look like. 1. You will be the cutest pregnant lady to ever walk the earth, and if anyone tells you otherwise, you'll tear their beating heart form their chest.

8. Cool to the point that all your children's friends will be lowkey obsessed with you.

9. At some point you might even pop out another baby or two just because you love this life so much.

10. Motherhood will slowly consume your life. Even through the weird quirks, you will start to love cartoons and ABC spaghettios more that your children do.

11. You plan on being really upfront with your kids, teaching them what's actually considered good and bad.

12. You will be powerfully in control of all shenanigans that happen in your house, and when you start counting down from three, your kids are going to know to stop whatever mess they're making or else.

13. And every once in a while there will be these days...

14. And ESPECIALLY these days...

15. But ultimately, this is what it all comes down to.

Demi Lovato's Hair Is Sparking Quite the Internet Debate

After Cheat Codes dropped their latest music video for "No Promises" featuring Demi Lovato, Twitter immediately started debating over the hairstyle Demi sports throughout the video.

A post shared by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on

Many people claim that she is wearing dreadlocks, a hairstyle born in Jamaica that carries deep ties to the Rastafarian religion, according to Cosmopolitan. If that's the case, then there's the issue of cultural appropriation, the act of adopting or using the elements of one culture by members of another in an exploitative way, or a way that undermines the significance of the feature in question.

Several Twitter users voiced their uneasiness about Demi's hair choice.

Others defended her, saying the hairstyle is actually not dreadlocks, but just twists.

Either way, the singer has inadvertently opened up just another conversation on the topic of appropriation and its implications.

How to Make Sweet Potato Toast—5 Ways

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Styled by Skylar, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

I have been getting so many questions about how I make my sweet potato toast so I thought it was finally time to share the recipe with you all!

But before we get to the details, I have a confession. I used to HATE sweet potatoes. I have this vivid memory of being at my great-grandmother’s house when I was in first grade and she served yams. I don’t think I’d ever even seen them before that moment but they just looked and sounded so disgusting to me that I instantly wrote them off.

But then all of a sudden, a few years ago, sweet potato fries were popping up everywhere. I always hated the ones at restaurants because they were still fried and really upset my stomach, and honestly, didn’t taste good to me. So on a whim, I decided to try making my own. And then I was making sweet potato fries almost every other night for dinner.

But it wasn’t until I moved to San Francisco (and had my own kitchen for the first time in a few months) that I decided to start making sweet potatoes in different forms. Ever since the first time I made sweet potato toast, I’ve been adding sweet potatoes to just about every single meal. They’re just so delicious and versatile!

So now the real reason you’re here—let’s talk about how to make sweet potato toast!

First things first, we have to talk about the actual sweet potatoes themselves because this is a case where size (and shape) really does matter. You want a fat sweet potato that may be kind of rectangular, not a long skinny one that looks similar to a zucchini or cucumber. Because photos are easier, look for ones like this, NOT this. Bonus points if it has a side that’s somewhat flat.

Also, I’ve started using #SbySToast so that you can easily see all of my toast creations in one place! So if you recreate this recipe share some photos using #SbySToast and be sure to tag me! I’ll be sharing all of them on my Instagram story.

Okay so now that that’s squared away, here’s how to make sweet potato toast five ways. Better yet, all of these options are dairy and gluten-free!

Ingredients

  1. Large sweet potato
  2. Avocado Oil Spray – I use this one
  3. Your choice of toppings

Calling all curly haired queens, silver foxes, bald babes, and my redheaded sisters! The emoji gods have finally heard our cries for representation! According to Mashable, the Unicode Technical Committee (those all-powerful emoji gods I was just ranting about) have added options for silver hair, bald, redheaded, and curly haired people as potential contenders for their next release in mid-2018. Here's what they might look like:

The Unicode panel has been taking people's wishes for emojis to be more inclusive pretty seriously—last November they added breastfeeding and hijab emojis to the list of possible candidates. I mean, while this proposal is still in its early stages, I'm already over the moon with excitement! As a redheaded chick, I've always thought it would be so awesome to have an emoji that looked like me. Now, for my rainbow-haired friends, sorry, you might just have to wait a little while longer!

2018, I can't wait for you! It was about time

How to Eat & Drink Your Way to Flawless Skin

$

Have you ever just looked at someone with perfect skin and wondered how she did it? “Maybe she masks every day.” “Maybe she was just born with beautiful, glowing skin.” Or maybe she just follows a kick-ass regimen that helps her follow the right steps to properly take care of her skin. If you find yourself questioning how you can make your skin ~glow~, let us help you out by providing you with a few tips on what you should be eating and drinking to rejuvenate your skin.

1. Water

So this one is a no-brainer. Those diagrams that encourage us to drink more water by showing us all of its beautiful benefits really don’t lie. Water hydrates your pores and eliminates the chances of acne bumps and blackheads forming in your pores. Not to mention that a simple glass of water can also hydrate your skin, which makes your complexion look a lot clearer in the long run. The eight-glass-a-day rule about water may sound a bit ridiculous and over the top, but there really are benefits to it.

2. Leafy greens

Didn’t your parents ever tell you to eat your vegetables? Greens such as spinach and kale are the perfect veggies to throw into green smoothies to nourish and detoxify your skin. If eating a salad is totally boring to you or if it’s just not your thing, throw everything in a blender with an apple or a banana to add some sweetness to the overall taste. According to Tracy from Incredible Smoothies, drinking green smoothies helps to clear up your skin.

"Smoothies are high in fiber and allow your skin to eliminate toxins the right way instead of through your skin," she writes.

Regularly drinking green smoothies will leave your skin with a healthy glow that you’ll definitely be proud of.

3. Oranges

Yes, oranges are a great source of vitamin C and that vitamin C can ultimately help your skin fight wrinkles and fend off skin diseases. Just make sure that you don’t run off and chug a glass of orange juice that has been processed and pumped full of sugar. A fresh orange can help your skin stimulate collagen, preventing dry skin.

4. Caffeine

We bet you were surprised to see this one here. Caffeine also helps to plump up and hydrate the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly enough, caffeine is sometimes used in anti-aging products because of the way that it fights off free radicals that cause wrinkles. You may automatically assume that this gives you the freedom to drink two cups of coffee a day, but remember that caffeinated beverages are not only limited to coffee. You can also drink green tea, which provides the skin with antioxidants and helps prevent aging.

5. Berries

Not only are berries delicious, but it's also been proven that they're great for your skin. Blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries are like powerhouses when it comes to antioxidants that help fight off free radicals. On top of being a great way to satisfy cravings, they're also packed with vitamins that will help clear and brighten up damaged skin

Believe us when we say that achieving flawless skin is not as impossible as it may seem. Remember to pay close attention to your diet if you’re looking for better ways to glow-up.

Spoilers are something Bachelorette fans have to deal with every season, but rarely do we get them from the lead of the show. During a call with reporters on Thursday, Rachel Lindsay revealed, “I am very much so in love and very much so engaged.”

While we don’t yet know who the lucky man is, Rachel did offer this hint about her fiancé. “I would definitely say that he checks—if I had a list, he would check everything off.” I’m already shipping this couple, and I don’t even know who I’m rooting for!

And though Rachel seems sure in her decision, she does want to spend time getting to know her fiancé after the show airs. Heeding advice she received from her predecessor, JoJo Fletcher, Rachel’s in no rush to head to the altar. Rather she plans to focus on cultivating her relationship.

In the meantime, she’s gearing up for the difficult period ahead, when, to keep her final pick a secret, the newly engaged pair won’t see each other as much as they’d like. “It’s hard when you’re so excited about something that you can’t share it with everyone. It’s really hard,” she told us. “But we just make sure that we communicate with each other all the time, and, I mean, that’s really all that you can do.”

So is this Rachel’s happy ending? According to the Bachelorette, yes! But to find out how she gets there, you’ll have to tune in.

The Bachelorette premieres Monday, May 22, at 9/8c.

Cosmetics Brand Philosophy Is Taking a Stand for Mental Health Awareness

On Wednesday, cult beauty brand philosophy hosted its third annual hope and grace luncheon at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood. The event, in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. A group of influential and inspiring women shared their struggles with mental health, each one doing her part to make this topic a widely discussed one. Among these women, Zelda Williams, the actress, and Lily Luo, representing Together Empowering Asian Minds. Every speaker moved her audience by sharing personal anecdotes of difficult times, and explaining how she began to feel better after suffering from mental illness.

Zelda Williams photographed by Michael Bezjian/WireImage

Attendees, including Michelle Trachtenberg, Rumer Willis and Rachel McCord, were encouraged to participate in the discussion by asking each other "how are you really?" in place of the generic "how are you?" The point of this exercise is to shine light on the superficial interest we take in others' lives on a regular basis, when sometimes all a person needs is somebody to listen. If you're inspired by this initiative, share your experience on social media using the hashtag #HowAreYouReally, and visit the philosophy website to learn more.

If you or someone you know is suffering from mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and disordered eating, visit NAMI.org, where you will find all the information and resources you need.

10 Questions to Ask Before You Begin an Internship

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Macarons & Mascara, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

The semester has ended and you have moved out of your dorm room. If you aren’t studying abroad, taking a summer class or working part-time, you’re likely interning somewhere. Internships are great ways to build hands-on experience in your desired career field, and they’re also great for networking and even making new friends. I had an editorial internship—my first internship EVER—last summer and I had such a fantastic experience. Of course, looking back, I found some things I could improve on, and I wish I had done a few things differently, but it’s a learning process, right? If you’re curious about what my experience was like, be sure to check out my post on What I Learned From My First Editorial Internship. I didn’t know too much about what to expect, other than the fact that I was told I would take on the same assignments as full-time employees. I didn’t know anyone who already had editorial internship experience, so I was kind of like the guinea pig of my friend group. I didn’t know what would be considered appropriate office dress, and I pretty much didn’t ask all the questions I probably should have asked beforehand. Because I want to make sure you don’t stress on the inside as much as I did when I started my first internship, here are 10 questions to ask before your first day no matter what kind of internship you get.

1. What time should I be in the office?

This is probably one of the most important questions that you can’t be shy about asking! I know you’ve heard of the average 9-to-5, but not every internship requires that you work during those hours. Some may ask you to come in a little later, and others may ask you to come in a little earlier. Some are even a little flexible and allow you to come in any time between, say, 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Usually, your hiring manager will tell you this info ahead of time, but if they don’t, be prepared to ask. Last year, I always tried to be in the office before my boss. Being late is obviously a huge internship mistake, but being there early will earn you a really good impression. Try saying something like, “what time are you usually in the office? Should I plan to arrive then, too?”

2. What is considered appropriate office attire?

Like I said, I didn’t know what was considered appropriate for the office on my first day because I failed to ask my hiring manager beforehand. I guess the question just didn’t occur to me, and I spent hours the night before combing through my closet looking for something decent. I settled on a plain button down, leggings and my favorite riding boots (it was still quite chilly at the time). I polished off the look with a statement necklace. My goal was to look business casual so that I was neither too dressed up nor too dressed down. And because it was still chilly, I brought a blazer with me so I was prepared either way.

The office dress code varies from company to company, honestly. Some are very laid back and will allow you to wear shorts, sundresses and jeans, while others will prefer it if you kept it more on the business casual side. Asking before you begin will give you enough time to buy any dress shirts if you need them, or invest in dress pants.

Selena Gomez's New Song 'Bad Liar' Is Finally Here

Selena Gomez has finally released some new music, and it's not what you would expect. The singer dropped her edgy new single "Bad Liar" right in time for summer, but it's not the typical, bouncy pop track you normally hear this time of year.

According to Refinery29, Selena and her team were inspired by Talking Head's 1977 jam "Psycho Killer," specifically Tina Weymouth's bassline on the song. Selena collaborated with Julia Michaels, an up-and-coming pop singer and fellow Talking Heads fan.

“Selena and Julia are Talking Heads-obsessed, so when we all got together in one room, Julia suggested, ‘Why don’t we just write over the bassline from ‘Psycho Killer?’ and we were all going, ‘That sounds great!’” songwriter Justin Tranter explains to Variety.

The familiar beat bumps in the background as Selena describes the oh-so-relatable moment of catching feelings when you really don't want to. "I see how your attention builds/It's like looking in a mirror/Your touch like a happy pill/But still all we do is fear/What could possibly happen next?/Can we focus on the love?" she sings. Could the lyrics be hinting at her current relationship with The Weeknd, AKA her friend Bella Hadid's ex-beau?

Whether or not the tune has some underlying meaning, it's a major hint as to what the rest of Selena's upcoming album will sound like.

"Selena is where she always is, ahead of the f—ing curve…" Tranter continues. "The music is very sexy, very smart and right where we left off the last time.”

Fans can catch the dramatic music video exclusively on Spotify.

President Trump Thinks He's the Victim of a Witch Hunt, According to His Twitter

On Wednesday, the Justice Department appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller to investigate President Trump’s alleged ties to Russia—a country whose interference may have helped sway the outcome of the 2016 Presidential election. Mueller is a special counsel, meaning he's been brought in from outside the administration in order to do a more independent investigation.

In true Trump style, he took to Twitter to express his disapproval and outright disgust for the appointment. He tweeted early Thursday morning, “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!”

However, according to The Los Angeles Times, the White House did release a statement Wednesday with President Trump’s name attached to it that read, “As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know—there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity.”

Mueller will lead the investigation into Trump’s alleged ties with Russia, but he also has the authority to investigate any other matters or issues that arise because of this. This includes Trump’s recent firing of FBI Director James Comey, which sparked heavy criticism from all sides. Many have said that Trump fired Comey because he didn't like where the Russia investigation was going, and Trump himself alluded to the same thing in an interview with Lester Holt.

While it's clear that Trump doesn't approve of the appointment, the Associated Press reports that Republicans generally do—they're getting tired of the chaos coming from the White House, and believe Mueller will help calm things down.

As the investigation gets under way, all we can do is sit and wait anxiously to see what Mueller and his team uncover. But rest assured we always have Trump’s Twitter feed to keep us on our toes.

Harry Styles' Rumored Girlfriend Is Taking a Break From Social Media After Facing Backlash

Some people are all about the fame, but that's definitely not the case for Harry Styles' rumored girlfriend Tess Ward. The 27-year-old food blogger has received a ton of backlash on the Interwebs recently, ranging from hateful comments and messages on Instagram to poor Amazon ratings and reviews of her cookbook The Naked Dietpresumably due to her alleged relationship with Styles. Two things are certain: 1) Ward is taking a break from social media as a result and 2) the Internet trolls really need to take a chill pill.

In a recent interview with The Times, Ward explains that she's already deleted her Snapchat, doesn't do Twitter and is even taking a step back from Instagram, which is a huge platform for a successful food blogger.

“At the moment I’m getting a lot of direct messages [on Instagram], but I respectfully choose not to reply to them, because they’re all, like, er... interesting," says Ward in the interview. "I want a break. I just want a break.”

Apparently, the drama peaked when fans realized Harry and Tess had worn the same Gucci shirt. The blogger has since disabled comments on her Instagram photos and respectfully responded to the haters with a simple caption on a delicious-looking photo of avocado, eggs and toast. "Brunch for dinner is never a bad idea on the weekend! Also for everyone following and messaging me, I am thankful but please be kind with your words. All I want is to share beautiful food with you all," Ward captioned the Instagram photo.

“It’s been so weird, the hate messages... very bizarre,” Ward continues in her interview. “I’m not the kind of person who’s interested in fame and if you’re put in an environment which you don’t understand and you can’t control and you don’t want, it’s horrible. Reporters have turned up at my mum’s house several times, at my old house. I just want to do what I love and that’s cook, it really is.” Say it louder for the people in the back!

When asked about Styles, Ward told The Times, "I literally don't have anything to say about that." It's clear that Ward just wants to focus on her passion for food and is taking the high road when it comes to social media trolls.

Can't a girl just cook?

Roger Ailes, Former Fox News CEO and Alleged Serial Sexual Harasser, Has Died

Roger Ailes, the controversial founder and CEO of Fox News who lost his position last year due to a sexual harassment scandal, died Thursday morning at 77.

Ailes’ wife, Elizabeth, announced the news through a statement and said the family is “profoundly sad and heartbroken” by the loss. The statement did not list a cause of death or any other details, but The New York Times notes Ailes was a hemophiliac long afflicted by obesity and arthritis. He also had an accident eight days prior to his death. Emergency personnel were called to his Palm Beach, Florida home after Ailes fell in a bathroom. A police report said there was “serious” bleeding and injury to his head, according to NBC News.

Ailes was the longtime chairman and CEO of Fox News and built it into the incredibly popular channel it is now over two decades. But he was ousted from his own company last year after a series of sexual harassment allegations came out.

His resignation came two weeks after former anchor Gretchen Carlson alleged Ailes had sexually harassed her, according to The Los Angeles Times. Ailes dismissed the allegations, but then several more women also accused Ailes of harassment, including Megyn Kelly. Carlson's lawyers said in August of 2016 that more than 20 people had come forward to accuse Ailes.

President Trump defended Ailes at the time and told "Meet the Press” that Ailes’ accusers were “saying these horrible things about him.”  “It’s very sad,” Trump said. “Because he’s a very good person. I’ve always found him to be just a very, very good person.”

Ailes was also part of an ongoing federal investigation into how 21st Century Fox handled the allegations—by paying large settlements to make accusations go away.

Ailes reportedly received $40 million in an exit agreement with Fox. He had since kept a lower profile after his resignation in July.

NBC reports Ailes was the son of a factory foreman and began his television career in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked for a conservative news network called Television News Incorporated in the early 1970s, which later served as a blueprint for Fox News.

Ailes also became heavily involved in Washington politics before founding Fox News in 1996 and was a media consultant for Republican presidential candidates Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

What I'm Doing to Help Destigmatize Mental Health

Trigger warning: mental illness, suicide

Mental health has always been a passion of mine. My family has a history of mental illness, and I am not ashamed to admit that I have struggled with my mental health to various degrees throughout my life. Growing up in the highly competitive academic atmosphere that comes with living next to a top ranked university, I watched many of my classmates develop mental health conditions, and my community experienced multiple teen suicides as students cracked under the pressure to be perfect. When I was in high school, my mental health involvement mostly consisted of spreading positivity through social media. When I came to college, I knew I wanted to make as big of an impact as possible in my community, working for my favorite cause.

NAMI has a wealth of statistics about the prevalence of mental health conditions in the United States. About one in five Americans experience mental illness each year. Only 41 percent of Americans living with mental health conditions receive treatment, and most people wait years between when they first experience symptoms and when they finally seek help, partly due to the stigma associated with mental illness. Three quarters of chronic mental illness begin by age 24, and suicide is the third leading cause of death for people aged 10-24. To lower these statistics, it is vital for young adults to get involved in advocacy efforts. Mental health conditions are common, yet there is so much shame associated with them that people feel more comfortable internalizing their pain than reaching out to get the support they need. I feel passionate about mental health causes because increasing access to resources and reducing the stigma associated with getting help benefits everyone, whether they live with a mental health condition or not.

Every year, I participate in and fundraise for my local Out of the Darkness Walk benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and table at the walk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, commonly referred to as NAMI, to inform others about mental health conditions, the stigma surrounding them, and how they can contribute to mental health advocacy locally. I have also become a member and served in leadership positions for both my local and university NAMI chapters. Through my university chapter involvement, including currently serving as Vice President, I have become a campus leader in mental health education and advocacy and have been able to spread awareness of what positive mental health looks like, what resources are available to students and faculty who may be struggling, and the importance of ending the stigma surrounding mental health conditions.

As my local NAMI chapter’s Ending the Silence Program Coordinator, and Connection Support Group Facilitator, I make connections with people in the greater Tuscaloosa community from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds. Whether I am talking to high schoolers or retirees, I want the participants in my programs to know that it gets better, that they are not alone, and that help is out there. I am also a field advocate for my local AFSP chapter, which has provided me with the opportunity to meet with state legislators and discuss what can be done to improve funding for the mental health resources and increase suicide prevention training for state employees, including teachers. Thanks to my community mental health involvement, I have gotten the opportunity to meet leaders in mental health from around the state and prominent figures in our local community and discuss areas of mental healthcare where my state is making great progress, as well as facets of our mental healthcare system which still need help.

When I graduate, I plan to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology specializing in adolescents with mental illness and become a licensed therapist. During my time in college, I have participated in extracurriculars that have given me clinical experience and directly shown me the impact of mental healthcare. I am involved in two research labs that each investigate the effects of mental health-related programs on their target populations in the community. Art therapy with persons with dementia and cognitive behavioral therapy with fifth graders could not sound more different, but they are both incredibly rewarding projects that enrich my life daily. This year I was appointed to the JED Foundation Student Advisory Council. By serving on the SAC, I can give input to JED about their national mental health programs targeted to high schoolers and college students to make them as effective and relevant as possible.

The community outreach I have participated in for the past three years has enhanced my college experience and has shaped me into the person I am today. Everyone’s life matters, and I believe it is important to use your skills and passions to improve the lives of others whenever possible. My passion for mental health has opened doors for me that have allowed me to impact people from a wide range of backgrounds, many of whom I would probably not have encountered on my own. It is quite rewarding to me when I can give others the knowledge and tools they need to manage their own mental health and better support others.

Rachel Lindsay Got Advice From These Bachelorettes & Her Pastor Before She Started Filming

Who do you turn to when you’re about to start a journey so few have experienced? The Bachelorettes who came before you and your pastor, of course.

During a press call Thursday, Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay told us she sought pre-show advice from several former Bachelorettes, including Ali Fedotowsky-Manno, JoJo Fletcher and Andi Dorfman.

Ali’s words of wisdom? “She definitely told me to enjoy the experience; it’s a lot, but she said take the time to just enjoy it for yourself because she said that’s something she didn’t do and she wishes that she would’ve,” Rachel said.

JoJo gave her advice about “being myself, listening to my gut and just being open.”

And Andi “was just encouraging me along the journey and just being really supportive.”

Rachel’s close friends from Nick’s season, who know this process all too well, chimed in too. “I felt that their advice was invaluable because not only do they know me—we used to live together—but they’ve been through a journey before,” she explained. “So they can give me a different perspective than other people can, and the main thing they told me to do was to be open, to let myself fall, to listen and to not judge a book by its cover. And I definitely took all of that in through my journey.”

But, perhaps the most impactful, this token from Rachel’s pastor stuck with her throughout the season: “‘You have a good foundation. You’ll basically stay true to who you are and your morals, and when you feel lost or you feel in trouble, just don’t forget to pray.’”

Is it just me, or does Rachel sound like the most prepared Bachelorette of all time?

The Bachelorette premieres Monday, May 22 at 9/8c.
