Shonda Rhimes Has Joined the Board of Planned Parenthood

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of some of the most binge-worthy shows on Netflix (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get away With Murder!), has just added another job title to her resume. Rhimes is now on the national board of Planned Parenthood.

The TV queen was asked by none other than Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards to join the board. Although Rhimes has spent years supporting her local Planned Parenthood, she decided that she was ready to take on a larger role within the organization. She told Elle.com, “When someone you really admire…calls on you to serve, you say yes.”

However, admiration wasn’t the only reason Rhimes wanted to become more involved with the organization. “The fact is that women’s health is under fire right now, and so to me, it’s important to help fight back.”

Following the 2016 presidential election, women’s rights, especially reproductive rights, have been more prevalent than ever in politics. To Rhimes, advocating for those rights and Planned Parenthood’s accessibility is necessary. “I'm not even sure I could tell you what my first exposure was. It's always been around for me, as far as I can remember," she said. "There wasn't a time that there wasn't a Planned Parenthood [available to me]. And I'm fortunate. I've always had medical care. I've always had access. I've never personally had to use a Planned Parenthood. But I have many friends who have and do and did, and I think it's important that that access be there for everyone.”

That motivation and persistence is one of the many reasons why Richards wanted Rhimes on the board. In her talk with Elle.com, Richards also highlighted Rhimes' ability to tell people’s stories as a key reason she wanted her help. “What she brings not only to this board, but frankly to the world, is her commitment to lift up the stories of people who don't always get heard, whether it's in the way she talks about LGBT issues or women's reproductive health care or [the way she] centers people of color on television," she explained. "To me, the most important work we can do now at Planned Parenthood is make sure that the voices of all those folks are heard, particularly in this political environment. And there's just no one better at utilizing the power of storytelling than Shonda Rhimes.”

As far as what Rhimes has planned for her position, she’s not totally sure yet. “I want to be of service一in any way that I can. And if that is helping to convey messages, that is what I'm going to do. If it's rolling up my sleeves and getting to work, that is what I'm going to do.”

One of the main issues Rhimes wants to address is the availability of health care for women. “I think it's important that women have a place to go to get Pap smears and cancer screenings. And it shouldn't be considered extra. It shouldn't be considered something that can be 'cut.' It shouldn't be something that's in danger of going away. The idea that we're even thinking about cutting that off because somebody else isn't enjoying it themselves or somebody has extreme opinions about it is worrisome to me,” she said.

There’s no doubt that Rhimes can help push these issues to the forefront of American minds.

Chrissy Teigen Is Still Trolling John Legend for Looking Like Arthur

Let's face it: Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are literal goals. In February, the internet went crazy because everyone suddenly realized John resembles your fave childhood PBS character Arthur. We all remember Arthur, right? The aardvark who wore glasses and a mustard sweater? Best show ever, tbh. Ever since Chrissy posted an Easter fam photo on Instagram Thursday, fans have been comparing John's outfit to Arthur's, and Chrissy is just eating it up.

A post shared by chrissy teigen (@chrissyteigen) on

An Arthur fan account tweeted the photo, saying, "Love your Easter look, @johnlegend."

Being the hilarious person that she is, of course Chrissy had to tweet back: "Whoa u shady as f!! *follows*".

Fans have been having fun with the Easter pic, too.

Poor John just can't catch a break with this whole Arthur thing. LOL, but seriously, it's funny AF.

7 Times You Need to Dance It Out Like a Character on 'Grey's Anatomy'

If you aren't a fan of Grey's Anatomy, then you aren't too familiar with the term "dance it out." When Cristina was still on the show way back when, she and Meredith were the two to put on music and dance out their problems. If you're a true fan, you know to participate in this stress-free activity whenever there's something insanely problematic in your life. Let's be honest—as collegiettes, we are faced with some pretty stressful situations. The next time you're faced with something stressful and you think the world is ending, remind yourself to put on some loud music and dance it out!

When you get a D at midterm

Well, I'm gonna fail, but I'm gonna dance to feel better.

When you're totally over college and you don't think you can do it anymore

Dance out the negativity.

When that jerk never calls you back

I don't need him anyway.

When you had a bad day at work

They might fire me, but who cares? I'm gonna dance it out!

When you're totally fighting with your BFFs

Grab your BFF and have them dance with you!

When a weird stranger hits on you at the club

Gonna casually dance away from you…

When you have $2 in your bank account

I'm broke AF, but I'm gonna dance bc I love life.

At Least Three People Are Dead After a Truck Drove Into a Crowd in Stockholm

At least three people were killed when a truck drove into a crowd of pedestrians on a busy street in the center of Stockholm, Sweden on Friday afternoon.

Many more pedestrians were injured in the attack, which occurred on a street popular with tourists and shoppers. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven believes it was a terror attack, BuzzFeed News reports. “Sweden has been attacked,” Löfven said. “Everything indicates this a terror attack.”

The truck used in the attack is owned by a local brewery, and was hijacked during a delivery, according to BuzzFeed News. “Someone jumped into the driver’s cabin and drove off with the vehicle while the driver was unloading,” a brewery spokesperson said.

The driver of the truck is currently not in custody, but the Swedish authorities have started looking for the suspect. The Swedish Security Service is also looking into whether more people were involved in the attack, according to CNN. Police have released a blurry photo of a man who is a person of interest.

The area, including Parliament and the Stockholm subway, were on lockdown and train services were halted.

An eyewitness, Veronica Durango, told CNN that the driver “put his foot on the gas and ran through the crowd.” “It was like he was driving through paper,” Durango said. “It’s like it was nothing. I can’t even believe how a person could do such a thing. And then he just kept on going. I was in shock.”

Former Swedish Prime Minster Carl Bildt responded to the attack on Twitter, noting a trend in terrorist attacks.

Investigations are still underway with more details to come.

Carly Waddell & Evan Bass Might Be Getting Married Sooner Than You Think

In a recent interview with E! News, Bachelor in Paradise couple Carly Waddell and Evan Bass spilled on wedding planning, having kids and even about Amanda and Josh (ooh!).

The couple told E! that they are happier than ever and ready to start the next chapter in their relationship. "I think that relationship wise, we're definitely more in love than we ever were before," Carly said. "I think we fall more for each other every day which is fun." She added, "It was always good, [but] it's just that as we got to know each other better and better. We fell for each other even harder. We've never had a bad spell. It's always been consistently good."

A post shared by Carly Waddell (@carlywad) on

The pair is currently living in Nashville, and according to Evan, his sons absolutely "adore" Carly. "I really do feel like part of the family now. And they know that I can't cook and they still accept me," Carly said. Sounds like a perfect family to me.

It seems like most Bachelor couples have failed, so what's behind the success of Carly and Evan? In the interview, Evan said that they've kept things fun and positive as a couple. "I hate how people think there's some kind of fairytale in front of the cameras...We're just living a normal life, you know?" he said. "We talk step-by-step, and we work through. I think that our communication and our ability to have conversations...that's been the key to working on our relationship and working towards marriage."

Since the couple is completely in love, Carly revealed, "I think we're going to have a wedding date in like two weeks [and] it's going to be this year." They expect many members of the Bachelor franchise will be in attendance including Wells Adams, Shawn Booth, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Jade Tolbert and many more. Omg, this better be televised.

As of right now, Carly and Evan are taking their time with his sons fully getting to know her, and she's waiting to move in until after they get married. "We just wanted to give that it's proper time," she said. "I feel so fulfilled being a part of Evan's family, and I think that we just really gave it time and eased into it and let everyone kind of feel it out, and that is what really worked for us. We never pushed anything, we never jumped in too fast."

Carly and Evan were also asked what they thought about the split between Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray, since they were all on the same season of Paradise together. The couple said that breakups are always hard and it's sad to see their friends go through something so terrible.

"I feel bad for Amanda, and as much as I am not a fan of Josh whatsoever, I feel bad for him going through this stuff," Evan, who vocally wasn't a fan of their relationship during BIP, said. "Again, there's all these rumors about what she said and what he said, and I think I told Amanda, 'I told you so' at some point."

Even though we do feel bad for Amanda and Josh, we couldn't be more excited for Carly and Evan. The two are more than ready to get married, and I'm pretty sure America is ready to see them tie the knot too. Here's hoping we get another televised Bach wedding!

Courteney Cox Explains Why She Turned Down the Role of Rachel on 'Friends'

There’s no doubt that Friends has made a huge impact on many of our lives. For most of us, sitting back and laughing while watching Friends is just like hanging out with our own friends. But what if the cast had been slightly shuffled?

According to HelloGiggles, Courteney Cox, better known as Monica Geller, was originally offered the role of Rachel Green, and she's finally telling us why she passed on playing Jennifer Aniston's career-making part.

I know what you’re thinking: WHAT IN TARNATION? It’s hard to think about the clean-freak, competitive Monica Geller being Rachel. It seems to me they’re polar opposites. But why did Courteney turn down the role of Rachel?

On Off Camera with Sam Jones, Courteney explained why she connected more with Monica. “I’m very similar to her. I’m not as clean as Monica, but I am neat. And I’m not as competitive, even though some people, my partner Johnny McDaid, would say I am.”

Was this what made the show so real? Actors who were just playing versions of themselves?

In retrospect, this show did make us feel like we were watching real people in real situations and real relationships. And that's why we'll always love it.

The Third Property Brother Is Making Twitter Have All Kinds of Savage Thoughts

Jonathan and Drew Scott, otherwise known as the Property Brothers, are our HGTV baes. If you're a fan of the show, you've probably seen their older brother JD Scott in one of his appearances. But what you didn't know is that at one point in his life, the oldest Property Brother looked like this:

THAT HAIR.

Okay, so while JD Scott may have on his resume that he's a performer who's worked as an impersonator for both Adam Lambert and David Bowie, this was his actual daily look for a few years. Needless to say, the internet got savage real quick about how JD Scott was basically your early-2000s, middle-school aesthetic. A weird combination of My Chemical Romance, Alex Evans and every product in Hot Topic, here are the most on-point things people have said about JD Scott's appearence.

Also, asking for a friend, is JD just supposed to be a combination of the names Jonathan and Drew? Thx.

Kylie Cosmetics Is Making 3 Limited Edition Lip Kits Permanent

If you're looking for some good news this weekend, here it is: Kylie Jenner decided to make three of our favorite Lip Kits permanent additions to her collection.

At 10 a.m. on Friday, Kylie Cosmetics welcomed back "High Maintenance" from the 2017 Valentine's Day Collection and "Vixen" from the 2016 Holiday Collection. The two Lip Kits are a mauvey pink (think classic Kylie) and a deep purple shade that is sugar plums galore, respectively.

But the final new addition to Kylie's Lip Kits is called "Boujee," which name is only reminiscent of a catchy song on the radio, not a lip product—but the color of itself looks suspiciously familiar. It's actually "Merry" from the 2016 Holiday Collection, that dark cherry red shade of liquid lipstick. She also changed the packaging from silver accents to black markings, because, ya know, the holidays are over.

Instagram users are speculating that the name change occurred in order to dissociate the Lip Kit from the holiday season and perhaps give it an edgier vibe. One user guessed it was because Kylie already has a Lip Kit called "Mary Jo K," which could be easily confused with "Merry" when said aloud. Regardless of the names, I cannot wait to explore the new shades, since I didn't get to try them during their limited release. Kylie Cosmetics has seen a host of various colors and names during the past year, including the infamous Valentine's Day Collection and the light pink "Smile" for charity

However, some are annoyed that Kylie Jenner brought back previously limited colors, making them less special, and also deceivingly selling them now as new, instead of inventing truly new colors altogether. "Seriously sooooooooooo creative. Repackaging and Renaming old colors. Smdh," one wrote.

Multiple people begged for their favorite shades to be made permanent, namely "Angel." That is so real; we absolutely need this shade, aka the best go-to medium pink shade from Kylie's collection.

What do you think—would you rather see new Lip Kit colors or have your faves come back for good?

Meghan Trainor & Her 'Spy Kids' BF Are Having Great Sex

Spy Kids was lowkey one of the most important movies of our childhood. (Floop's Fooglies anyone?) So Daryl Sabara (Juni Cortez) dating our fave, Meghan Trainor, would be the best of both worlds, right? Kind of. If you don't want your innocent memories of Spy Kids spoiled by some very adult sex talk, cover your ears.

Trainor and Sabara fell in love on a double date, and the rest was history. "We went on a double date—bowling and karaoke," Trainor told Cosmopolitan. "He kissed me at the bowling alley. I told my security to step outside ‘cause I didn’t want to be watched. LOL. He was the best kisser ever. I know I’m really good at kissing, but I was shocked when he was."

Now, they've been dating for nine months, and Trainor has even opened up about how amazing their sex is. “I never really felt sexy with guys before," she said. "No one expressed how they liked my body out loud in the bedroom until I met Daryl. He is obsessed with it—every inch. And that has improved my confidence more than even ‘Bass’ did. He’s a champion, so we’re in heaven.”

Trainor has already written six songs about Sabara, so you can definitely expect to hear more about their adorable romance on her next album—including a song called "Marry Me." Hint, hint?

We may have lost our darling little Juni Cortez, but we're so excited that he's grown into a body-positive boyfriend!

Here's Why Hillary Clinton Thinks She Lost the Election

$

0

It’s been almost four months since the results of the presidential election. As we all know, Donald Trump won the election and Hillary Clinton lost—and some of us are still mourning the outcome. Regardless, Clinton has her own theory on why she lost the election. As it turns out, Clinton believes that there are a few factors that led to her loss.

At Tina Brown’s Women in the World Summit in New York City on Thursday, Clinton had her first interview since her election loss, with New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. Clinton revealed that she believes misogyny was one of the main factors in her defeat. Yes, misogyny is alive and well.

"The more successful a man is, the more likeable he becomes," Clinton told Kristof. "With a woman, guess what, it's the exact opposite." She added, "The more successful, and therefore ambitious, a women is, the less likeable she becomes." It’s ridiculous that some people still believe that women aren’t capable of holding powerful positions. Seriously it’s 2017, people.

Clinton isn’t the only one who believes misogyny had a negative effect on the election. Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish First Minister, spoke alongside Clinton at the Women's Conference. She said onstage, “The way that Hillary was talked about, the treatment that Hillary suffered at times, just seemed to me to have an air of misogyny about it, that I wanted to believe that we had moved on from," according to The Telegraph

Clinton didn’t just cite misogyny as causing the downfall of her campaign. She explained to Kristof that James Comey's involvement, WikiLeaks and the opposition’s collusion with Russia also contributed to the election results.

Clinton accused Russia of “an act of aggression” that “meddled with our election,” according to NBC News. The U.S. House and Senate Intelligence Committeeshave been investigatingRussia’s involvement in the 2016 election.

FBI Director James Comey’s involvement in the election is practically self-explanatory. Comey said he was examining more emails related to the FBI investigation of Clinton’s private server, less than two weeks before Election Day. Clearly that announcement and its timing were not in Clinton's favour. When the election was only two days away, Comey announced there wouldn't be any criminal charges, NBC News reports.

While Comey, Russia and WikiLeaks may have contributed to Clinton’s defeat, Samantha Bee also believes that misogyny had an immense impact on the election’s outcome. During the Women in the World Summit, the comedian gave a heartfelt speech to introduce Clinton. She said, “I’m only gonna say this once, though you deserve to hear it 100 times. It should have been you.”

“I thought—and I feared—that you being elected would unleash a wave of misogyny in the U.S., but we’ve seen that that happened anyway,” Bee continued. I feel you, Sam, I feel you.

After all, Clinton has decades of political experience. She served as a U.S. senator for eight years, and dedicated four years of her career as the Secretary of State. Yet somehow she lost to a man with zero political experience, a businessman with questionable moral integrity, who bankrupted several businesses. Does Trump Vodka ring any bells? But misogyny definitely didn’t play a part in the election—yep, none whatsoever.

Airbnb Bans Host Who Rudely Refused a Guest Because of Her Race

Dyne Suh, an American law student in Riverside, had her Airbnb reservation in California revoked by the host, simply because she was “Asian.” Seriously? Let me repeat that because it’s quite shocking. Suh’s reservation was cancelled last-minute just because of her race.

As a result, Nick Papas, an Airbnb spokesman, told The Washington Post that the host was banned because their behavior was “abhorrent and unacceptable.” Unacceptable is one way to describe the host’s messages.

Suh had booked the mountain cabin on Airbnb a month before her expected trip, The Huffington Post reports. She had even asked the host if she could include two of her friends on her reservation. The host confirmed that it “wouldn’t be a problem” as long as they paid more. The law student told NBC Los Angeles that the trip was intended as a break from law school. After all, grad school in general can be stressful, and future lawyers need a vacation too.

According to Mashable, when Suh was on her way to the Airbnb destination, the host told her that she “was no longer welcome.” In a viral video regarding the incident, Suh said that after she received this message, she "asked the woman again, is it OK if my two friends come, like should we give you cash?” But apparently the money wasn’t the issue—not at all.

After a slew of messages between Suh and the host, Suh told the host that she was going to report her behavior to Airbnb, which was when the host revealed her racist intentions. “Go ahead. I wouldn’t rent to you if you were the last person on earth,” the host said. She added, “One word says it all. Asian.”

Unfortunately, the prejudice didn’t end there. According to The Huffington Post, the host continued to say things like, “I will not allow this country to be told what to do by foreigners. It’s why we have trump.” Smh. Suh saved several screenshots of these messages and didn’t hesitate to send them to Airbnb.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first incident of racial discrimination from Airbnb hosts. However, Airbnb appears to be diligent about banning any racist host or guest. Regardless, it’s very disheartening (to say the least) that anyone has to be on the receiving end of a racist’s tirade.

11 Exercises You Can Do Without Leaving Your Bed

$

0

We’ve all had mornings where the alarm goes off, signaling it’s time for your workout — but you just cannot even. Or maybe you have a big day of work ahead of you, and the very act of getting out of bed is daunting and unwelcome. Here’s a compromise: instead of hitting the snooze button again, complete a short workout without actually leaving your bed. Productive procrastination anyone?

1. Hip Bridge

With your knees bent and feet planted on the bed, keep your arms at your side, squeeze your glutes together, lift your hips and hold for 1 minute.

2. Jack Knife

Lie down with your arms above your head and keep your legs straight. Lift up your legs and arms to meet, then slowly release down. Complete 15 reps.

3. Toe Touches

Start with your legs lifted to the ceiling and arms lying flat above your head, making an “L” shape with your body. Reach up vertically to touch your toes, crunching your abs in the process, and then slowly lower back to starting position. Complete 20 reps.

4. Leg lifts

Start with your legs lying flat and arms either behind your head, under your lower back, or to the side. Lift your legs up until they are perpendicular to the bed, then slowly lower back down (the slower you go the harder the workout). Bonus points if you can complete reps without touching the ground in between. Complete 20 reps.

5. Outer thigh lifts

Lie on your right side, using your right arm to support your head, and keep your legs stacked on top of each other. Slowly lift your left leg to about a 60-degree angle from the ground, then slowly release back down without touching your right leg between reps. Complete 30 reps on each side.

6. Inner thigh lifts

Lie on your right side, and use your right arm to support your head. Bend your left leg and place your left foot over your right leg. Lift your right leg using your inner thigh, foot flexed, in tiny pulses without releasing to the bed between pulses. Complete 30 reps on each side.

7. Scissor kicks

Lie on your back, arms either under your lower back or to the sides. Lift your legs to a 45-degree angle and drop the left leg while raising the right, then raising the left and dropping the right. That’s one rep. Complete 20 reps without returning your legs to the ground. (P.S. the lower your legs to the ground, the harder the workout because your abs are working more.)

8. Planks

Try this six minute plank routine to work your abs and arms, 1 minute in each position: forearm center, right, left, then arms extended center, right, left. Your abs will have to work harder if you plank on a bed because your grounding surface isn’t as stable.

9. Butterfly Crunches

Lay on your back, heels pressed together and thighs apart, as close to touching the bed as is comfortable, with your arms supporting your head. Slowly crunch up, and then slowly release back down. Complete 25 reps.

10. Push ups

We may hate them, but face it — they’re an effective and simple workout for both your abs and your arms. Start in an extended plank position, abs tucked in and back flat. Slowly bend your arms until you are as low as you can get without dropping to the bed, and then extend back to starting. If you need to, drop to your knees instead of your toes. Complete 25 reps.

11. Stretch

Stretching is so important and a great way to start your day. Touch your toes, stretch out your arms above your head, do a few downward and upward dogs and just give some love to any muscles that might be feeling overworked. Take it easy and don’t overextend though, otherwise you might injure yourself.

These exercises are easy, equipment-free and you don’t even have to get out of bed. Whether you’re just waking up or in need of a study break, complete a few (or all!) of these to strengthen your muscles and give your brain a break. Remember to go slowly, as this actually makes your muscles work harder and will ensure your form is perfect.

So, Nearly Half of American Adults Have HPV According to a New Report

The National Center for Health Statistics released the results from the first-ever study looking at the prevalence of human papillomavirus in the U.S. - and the statistics aren't looking good.

According to the report, which was released Thursday, more than 42 percent of American adults between 18 and 59 years old have HPV, the New York Times reports. Not only that, but around a quarter of men and 20 percent of women are infected specifically with high-risk strains, which are known to cause cervical and penile cancers. These numbers also make HPV the most common STI in the country. (Yikes.)

While the numbers seem a little terrifying, the study also points out that two vaccines exist to prevent HPV, and the high rates of the STI make getting vaccinated against it even more necessary than we thought before. While doctors are recommending that the vaccination be given to children as young as 11 and 12 years old (or ideally before they become sexually active), luckily, the vaccination can still be effective until the age of 26.

“If we can get 11 and 12-year-olds to get the vaccine, we’ll make some progress,” Geraldine McQuillan, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told the New York Times. “You need to give it before kids become sexually active, before they get infected. By the time they’re in their mid-20s, people are infected and it’s too late. This is a vaccine against cancer - that’s the message.”

Of course, whether or not you choose to get vaccinated, the study is also a great reminder of why it's important to use a condom and practice safe sex every. Single. Time.

This Teen Got Asked for Nude Photos and Her Response Is the Funniest Thing Ever

It's likely you've been there: you're texting a guy you're super into, and the flirty conversation turns into a request for *ahem* pics - which is fine if you're a consenting adult. However, 16-year-old Jacquie Ross was neither of those things when she was asked for nude pictures, and her response is basically the best thing ever.

As BuzzFeed reports, Jacquie was texting her friend Michael about prom, when he asked to see a picture of her in her dress. When she responded saying that she wasn't exactly looking picture perfect at the moment, he asked why, and she responded with a shot of her face mask and bare shoulders. This lead Michael to ask what was "below the picture," (her towel), and under the towel. From there, the screenshots, which Jacquie posted to Tumblr, just get more and more hilarious.

Their conversation ended with her having to resort to a robe - under which, of course, you guessed it: was a towel. (And we can't stop laughing.)

On Tumblr, Jacquie's post, captioned, "They don't give up so easily nowadays," (lol) has racked up over 76,000 notes and counting. "He's sort of a friend so we talk pretty often," she told Buzzfeed. "Not flirtatiously but memes and such. So it wasn't some random guy from a class."

While Jacquie doesn't seem too bothered by the incident, as Refinery29 points out, Michael saying, "I'm gonna get what I want," is what feels particularly icky about his request. PSA: consent isn't really consent if you have to pressure someone for it. (As Michael does endlessly here.)

Luckily, it seems like Jacquie knew exactly how to handle the pressure, and TBH her way of shutting Michael down is kind of our ultimate ~goals~.

"I like when people are like 'I'm gonna use this for future reference!'" Jacquie told BuzzFeed. BRB, I too will be saving this one for later.

You Can Now Get Paid to Lay in Bed All Day (Seriously)

In case you're anything like us and one of your favorite hobbies is lying in bed and hiding from your responsibilities, you might be in luck: it turns out that some researchers are looking for people to do just that - and you can even get paid for it.

Cosmopolitan reports that French scientists at the Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology have planned a study that's designed to test microgravity and a supplement's effect on the way the body experiences weightlessness in space. To do this, they need volunteers who are willing to literally lie on their backs for two straight months. *Raises hand to volunteer as tribute.* Oh yeah, and they'll pay you $17,000 for your time.

Unfortunately, participation in the study also comes with some major drawbacks. We're talking two months straight here - meaning participants are required to do everything, including eat, bathe and, um, go to the bathroom while lying down with at least one shoulder on the bed. Not only that, but researchers suspect that participants will experience muscle loss and low bone density. The hope is that the supplement being tested will help with these issues, but still. (It also looks like they're only opening up the study to men for now, so there's that.)

But hey, if you happen to have any guy friends who might be interested in getting paid to do nothing other than be lazy from the months of September to December 2017, they just might have found their calling. (And we'll just go back to searching for our dream job that allows us to get paid for our bed and Netflix addiction.)

The 7 Most Bizarre Beauty Treatments Celebrities Swear By

$

The beauty industry is an ever-evolving means to an end of looking #flawless. Fortunately for us, this means that we never have to wait too long to hear about the next big thing sweeping the beauty and skin care industries. As with fashion, celebrities are the trendsetters who bring the haute couture of beauty treatments into the public eye, filled with women like ourselves. Science hasn't yet caught up to our expectations, but it’s given celebrities some strange products and treatments to entertain us in the meantime. They’re bizarre, gross, generally-WTF beauty treatments that celebs swear by to maintain their je ne sais quoi—which, as it turns out, is probably just the afterglow of a bee venom intensive moisturizer.

1. Vampire Facials: Kim Kardashian

It's no secret that beauty is kind of a big deal to the Kardashian clan. Which is why we really aren't that surprised that Kim is willing to opt for a facial that makes her look like the lead from a slasher flick and carries a hefty price tag of $2,500 to boot. The facial makes use of a Dermapen, which contains acupuncture-sized needles that are rolled along the face to make micro punctures in the skin and help the serums used during the facial absorb more effectively. Mrs. Kardashian-West goes an extra step with the Dermapen treatment by including plasma platelets (taken from her own blood) in the regenerative treatment, which boosts collagen and elastin production in the skin. However, Dr. Brian Zelickson, Dermatologist and Founder of MD Complete Skincare, let us in on an interesting clinical find: “A recent study found that the use of platelet preparations in facial rejuvenation remains unproven.” According to Dr. Zelickson, topical fillers that use hyaluronic acid can achieve “significant results” minus the cost and blood-smeared face.

2. Foreskin Cell Face Cream: Oprah Winfrey

Oprah certainly got some heat several years ago for having endorsed this controversial moisturizer to her fans. SkinMedica's anti-aging TNS Recovery Complex contains a nutrient solution derived—you read it correctly—from foreskin cells. The company describes the solution as "Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media," a growth factor that reportedly corrects all woes of aging skin (like lines, wrinkles, age spots, dullness, and uneven texture). Various products from SkinMedica's line have been reviewed and loved by beauty editors far and wide, but we kind of cringe at the thought of adding this 0.63 oz skin serum to our shopping list for $179 a pop.

3. Snake Venom 'Botox': Gwyneth Paltrow

The Iron Man starlet swears by this synthetic snake venom complex that's engineered to be a non-invasive alternative to Botox. Paltrow is known to frequent Sonya Dakar Spa in Beverly Hills, where the complex is used in anti-aging facials. According to The Dermatology Review, Syn-Ake mimics the effects of actual snake venom by "reducing muscular contractions and cell movement, thereby keeping skin smooth," which is similar to how Botox functions. The Syn-Ake complex can be found in a variety of different products (and price ranges) in the beauty industry, so we're sure Paltrow isn't the only A-lister getting in on this five-ssstar beauty buy. But while there are similarities in the ways the two compounds function, Dr. Zelickson noted, “there are no well-done clinical studies showing the showing the specific effects of using snake venom topically on the skin."

4. Burning Off Split Ends With ‘Velaterapia’: Alessandra Ambrosio

This is a traditionally Brazilian hair treatment used by supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio and Barbara Fialho. Velaterapia involves running pieces of hair along open flame to ‘trim’ the split ends and seal the split in the hair strand. It takes 2 to 3 hours at a time to do, and can seriously damage your hair. We chatted with celebrity stylist Peter Lamas (who’s worked with Hollywood legends like Audrey Hepburn) to get the verdict on what this treatment means for the long-term health of your hair. “Personally, the risk of setting the hair on fire is enough to deter me from using this method. The treatment itself seems over-the-top. Singeing off the split end will help temporarily make hair smooth, however Velaterapia will not make hair healthier,” he says. “As more and more split ends are removed, the hair will reach a certain point where it begins to look thin,” says Lamas. Yikes! Thinning hair is not a good look on anyone. Instead, Lamas suggests regular trims and heated hair masks to keep your hair at its healthiest and shiniest.

5. Bird Poop Facials: Victoria & David Beckham

We think it's safe to say that The Beckhams are the definition of power couple #goals. They both have wildly successful careers, the cutest kids ever, and… they get bird poop facials together? The treatment, more delicately known as a Geisha facial, utilizes the excrement of the Japanese nightingale to exfoliate and purify the skin. According to Shizuka Spa in New York City (where Tom Cruise reportedly goes to for his own Geisha facials), the unique properties of the enzymes in the droppings are proven to "brighten, heal and retexturize the skin."

6. Bee Venom Skin Care: Kate Middleton

Excuse us while we fangirl over how cool Kate Middleton is. She’s bonafide royalty on top of being an incredible philanthropist, a guest editor for the Huffington Post, and she has declared once and for all that leggings are indeed pants. She also set this beauty trend a few years back when she revealed it as a staple in her own beauty routine. Bee venom in beauty products touts the same benefits as Syn-ake (mentioned above) but with a few extra in tow. According to Rodial, the celeb-loved brand responsible for bringing buzz-worthy skincare to the public, their bee venom products also contain peptides that increase skin elasticity and firmness, as well as stimulating collagen production in the skin. Dr. Zelickson adds that purified bee venom has shown clinical results in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. “[It] causes an increase in Epidermal Growth Factor (the protein responsible for cell growth) and accelerates cell regeneration, leading to a higher level of skin elasticity and an increase in collagen production,” he says. Be wary, though; if you’re allergic to bees (or if you’re not sure), these products could pose some serious health risks.

7. Red Wine Baths: Terri Hatcher

In all honesty, bathing in red wine almost sounds normal compared the other celebrities’ beauty go-tos. The former Bond girl and Desperate Housewives star loves to add a bottle of red wine to her bath and insists that it softens and exfoliates her skin in the best way. But Dr. Zelickson isn’t convinced. According to him, the numerous health benefits of red wine don’t extend to topical skincare. “Though it has some exfoliating qualities, the attributes of red wine that have a truly positive impact on your health will not cross the dermal barrier into your skin when bathing. The best way to internalize wine’s antioxidants is through drinking (in moderation) or cooking with it,” he says. It looks like you’re probably better off saving the Cabernet Sauvignon for a glass, collegiettes.

As much fun as it is to read about the weird beauty rituals of the rich and famous, there’s a certain peace of mind to having a trusty skincare routine of your own. Would you be brave enough to try any of these crazy beauty treatments out for yourself?

Hillary Clinton Revealed Her Favorite Meme on the Internet, and Same

It's no secret that 2017 has been a struggle, and the only way anyone can cope anymore is with political memes - and apparently, "everyone" even includes Hillary Clinton herself.

While speaking at the 2017 Women in the World Summit in New York City, amongst the many issues discussed was the very important matter of Clinton's favorite Internet meme, because, obviously. Not surprisingly, her choice is extremely #relatable.

"There is that classic picture of all of them - men - sitting around deciding how they were going to defund Planned Parenthood and maternity care, and access to insurance for family planning and contraception," she said.

ICYMI, this is the so-upsetting-it's-kind-of-funny photo that Clinton is referencing:

She continued, "Looking at that picture, you just think it has got to be from a skit on Saturday Night Live. It can't possibly be true. My favorite GIF from the internet was showing the dogs sitting around the table, and the caption was, 'Now we will discuss feline health.'"

Honestly, same Hillary, same. (And I'll even forgive you for getting confused about the difference between a GIF and a meme.)

6 Things You Never Knew You Could Do With a Flat Iron

Styling your hair can seem like a total hassle when you are juggling ten different tools at once, scrambling to tame your locks and get out the door before class. Fumbling with a blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, round brush and comb all before you’ve had your morning cup of coffee is not only inefficient, it’s downright stressful. Luckily, we’ve got a solution for you. That one tool every girl’s got in her arsenal, the flat iron, is all you need for great-looking hair. Your straightener can do so much more than you ever thought, so forget the ten-tool-trauma and embrace the flat iron.

Crimp Your Hair

Give your hair a total transformation with a simple flat iron trick. Starting at the roots of your hair, guide the flat iron down while twisting your wrist back and forth every inch. An extra hot iron and persistent pressure will ensure that your crimps are clean and even. You can also increase the spacing between crimps for a loose, subtle interpretation. Either way, this look is no '80s throwback. It’s an updated take on an old trend and definitely much improved.

Color Your Hair With Chalk

Brightly colored locks are all the rage right now, but you don’t have to go to a pricey salon to achieve the look. Hair chalk or even soft chalk pastels from an art supply store can give you a whole new do for a fraction of the price. First, run the chalk over strands of hair in thin sections, building layers until you have reached the amount of color you wish to show. Be sure to apply an extra thick layer of color to the tips of the hair to achieve an even finish. Then, lock in all that color by running your straightener over the strands of hair. Your color will be set and looking salon-worthy until your next shampoo!

Lock In Hair Extensions

If you want a dramatic change for a night out or special event, hair extensions are a great solution. Rather than dropping hundreds of dollars on salon extensions though, you can easily get a short-term version of the same look right at home. DIY extensions can come in many forms, but you will often see options that are heat-reactive or that can be supplemented with extension tape. A safe, glue-like substance is activated with the heat of the straightener to seal extensions in at the root of the hair. It’s a great alternative to clip-ins and an easy way to change up your look in a flash. Look for products labeled “fusion” extensions, like these from Sally Beauty. Depending on the nature of the extensions, you may also be able to style your temporary locks with the flat iron. Short-haired girls can now experience the magic of cascading curls too!

Create Perfect Curls

That’s right, your good old flat iron is multitalented. Simply wrap 2-inch strands of hair around the iron plates and pull the iron up or down at a 90-degree angle from your head. Give each strand a twirl with your finger at the end to reinforce the shape. For tighter curls, use smaller sections of hair at a time or for a more subtle effect, start the iron three inches down from the roots keep the top bit of hair smooth and straight. For a tutorial on achieving the perfect flat iron curl, check out a video from beauty vlogger Shelley Cohen.

Build Instant Volume

Flat, lifeless hair can be instantly revived with an easy flat iron trick. Whether you’re already straightening your hair or just want a two-minute makeover, this move will give you a fresh boost. Simply section your hair off and starting as close to the roots as possible, lift your hair up and run your straightener up toward the ceiling. Once you get about half way down the section, switch directions and run the flat iron down toward the ground, curling in slightly at the ends. By lifting hair away from the roots, you’ll lock in volume at every layer. For step-by-step instructions, check out Tiffany Ish's guide on her blog “I am Stylish-Ish.”

Get Beachy Waves

This may be the ultimate hair hack. When time is short but you want a hairstyle to mask that bed head, a simple maneuver with your straightener will do the trick. Simply twist sections of hair into tight swirls and then run your flat iron over top to lock in a soft wave. You could also braid your hair and then follow up with the flat iron for bouncier, larger waves. Use a texturizing spray before applying heat, and follow up with a gentle hairspray to ensure your waves don’t crash before the day is out.
