This St. Patrick's Day Shirt Is Unbelievably Insensitive

0
0

Everybody loves a fun St. Patrick’s Day-themed shirt to celebrate the luck of the Irish, but there definitely needs to be a line drawn at certain points for this type of clothing. Exhibit A: this PubCrawls.com shirt reading “Drunk Lives Matter” in the same font the Black Lives Matter movement uses for its products. Um excuse me, what?

Refinery29 reports that the shirt is also being sold via Amazon, where users are livid about the shirt’s faux pas. “As an African American I CAN NOT give this any stars but I’m forced to give it one!” one user commented. “You are selling shirts that make fun of a slogan that has come out of the brutal killings of an entire race of people!”

This tone-deaf message has understandably angered many because of its disregard for the work and legacy of Black Lives Matters activists. The shirt trivializes the lives of innocent people killed simply because of the color of their skin. It makes a joke both out of very serious racial issues, and out of binge-drinking, neither of which are laughing matters. Although it's fine to get a little fun and merry if you're 21+ on St. Patty's, you should always be mindful of the message you're putting out.

We're all about having some fun on St. Paddy's Day, but attire like this goes far beyond innocent fun. There's no news about discontinuing the shirt, but after seeing these responses, we wouldn't be surprised if sales were put on halt.

5 Things Your Gynecologist Wishes You Knew

0
0

Going to visit the gynecologist regularly is an extremely important part of every woman’s life. It’s also understandably a little terrifying because of how personal an appointment can be. Still, that shouldn’t deter you from making an appointment, because gynecologists ultimately care about your health and will be an essential source of information regarding periods, contraception, sexuality and diseases relating to your reproductive organs. Later on in life, they will also be there to answer your questions about menopause, infertility and prenatal care.

We talked to Dr. Julie Chor, an obstetrician/gynecologist and assistant professor at the University of Chicago. She specializes in adolescent gynecology, family planning and delivering babies. Dr. Chor provided several essential things you need to know about gynecology. So what are you waiting for? Find out what your gynecologist wants you to know about everything down there.

1. Visiting the gynecologist does not equal getting a pelvic exam

A pelvic exam is pretty much exactly what you picture when you think of visiting the gynecologist. The doctor will ask you to lay back and put your feet into stirrups, and then insert a speculum into you, which is used to check the inside of the vagina and cervix. It may sound intimidating, but remember it’s not all a gynecologist does. As Dr. Chor says, “This exam can be important, but is not necessary in every encounter with a gynecologist!”

2. You should start getting pap smears once you hit 21

The pap smear is a test that is used to check for cervical cancer. Your gynecologist will again use the speculum to see the interior of your vagina and cervix, and then gently scrape the opening of the cervix to collect cells that will later be examined under a microscope. According to the National Library of Medicine, you will need to avoid having sex and using tampons or douches at least 24 hours before the test. Be sure to schedule your appointment around your period too, as bleeding might lessen the accuracy of the results.

As Dr. Chor explains, “This important [pap] test screens for abnormalities of the cervix that can progress to cervical cancer, but this testing is not started until 21 years of age. In fact, unless a woman has an abnormality on her pap smear, pap smears are only performed every 3 years between the ages of 21 and 30.” Remember, while both are common procedures, a pap smear is not the same as a pelvic exam. “Many women mistake a pelvic exam (which can include a speculum exam and/or an internal bimanual exam) with a pap smear. Not every pelvic exam includes a pap smear,” Dr. Chor says.

In addition, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that young women see a gynecologist starting between age 13 and 15 - not for internal pelvic exams but for an external examination.

3. You really should visit the gynecologist every year

It is recommended that you see a gynecologist at least once a year. “While pap smears are normally performed every three years, it is recommended to check Gonorrhea and Chlamydia yearly in this age group and to check in regarding other important reproductive health issues,” Dr. Chor says. Even if you feel completely healthy or are not sexually active, there are a ton of reproductive health issues that the gynecologist will check for. “Such issues include menstrual cycles, contraceptive needs, sexually transmitted infections, pelvic pain, the list goes on.”

You should also remember to get STI (sexually transmitted infection) screenings, which are not a part of the annual gynecological check-up. Most importantly, growing a strong relationship with your gynecologist means that you will understand and learn how to take care of your body early on.

4. Birth control can do more for you than prevent pregnancies

Although its name suggests a one-track purpose, birth control actually has a lot of uses. “There currently is a wide spectrum of birth control options out their [there] - ranging from pills to Depo-provera (aka “the shot”) to several different intrauterine devices and the contraceptive implant,” Dr. Chor says.

“While these options are most commonly used to help prevent pregnancy, they are also used to help with a host of other reproductive health issues,” Dr. Chor continues. “These other issues include irregular periods, heavy periods, menstrual cramps and acne.” Before you decide to take birth control, consult with your gynecologist to see which type of medication fits your needs the best, whether it’s through a pill, a shot, with short-term or long-term effects. If you’re a beginner to this whole birth control thing, first check out this handy guide to The Pill.

5. Get HPV-vaccinated!

HPV, or the Human Papillomavirus, is a viral infection that causes genital warts or cancer in the cervix, vulva, and in other reproductive organs. There are over a hundred types of HPV, and many do not cause problems. HPV infections usually clear up without any intervention within a few months after acquisition, and about 90 percent clear within two years. A small proportion of infections with certain types of HPV can persist and progress to cancer. Since it is spread through oral, vaginal and anal intercourse, it is extremely important for women who have engaged in penetrative sex to get vaccinated. Dr. Chor says that the recommended age for receiving the vaccine is 9-26 years old, so collegiettes who haven’t received the vaccine yet should set up an appointment as soon as possible. Ideally, women should get the vaccine before they become sexually active, so the sooner the better. If you are sexually active and you have not yet taken the vaccine, it’s possible that the vaccine will be less effective because you may have been exposed to one or more types of HPV that the vaccine is designed to target.

In addition, the HPV vaccine, unlike some other vaccines you may have taken as a child, comes in a series of three doses that must be given over a course of six months. The second dose must be administered one to two months after the first does, and the third must be given six months after the first dose. There are actually two HPV vaccines that protect different types of HPV. The bivalent HPV vaccine prevents HPV 16 and HPV 18, which cause 70% of cervical cancers. Meanwhile, the quadrivalent vaccine prevents not only HPV 16 and 18, but also HPV 6 and 11, which cause 90 percent of genital warts.

Keep in mind that getting HPV vaccines does not mean you should forego cervical cancer screenings. Ultimately, it's important to consult with your gyno to see which treatments you are recommended to receive.

As you can see, gynecologists are an essential resource when it comes to understanding your body. While this article provides a snippet of the information gynecologists have for us collegiettes, it’s best to set up an appointment with your gynecologist to get the full scoop!

These Super Affordable Face Masks Are Definitely Worth the Hype

If you're on the market for a good face mask that doesn't break the bank, 7th Heaven was made for you. This brand, whose individually packaged face masks range from $1.03 to $1.37 at Walmart, is consistently a top-rated product (4.5 stars on the Walmart site and between 4 and 5 stars at Ulta). "It made my skin feel like a baby bottom," one user said, and "Loved everything about it!" another chimed in.

I got to try some of the brand's products—specifically, the Passion Peel Off, the Creamy Coconut hydrating mask, and an exfoliating mask with orange peel. All of them were exactly what I expect from a face mask—got the job done and left my skin feeling rejuvenated. My one complaint is that I'm just not a big fan of peel-off masks (who needs bits of that stuff stuck in their eyebrows??), but that's not specific to 7th Heaven. Overall, their large selection and accessible price points are a winning combo.

Not only do these face masks work, but 7th Heaven is also a certified cruelty-free brand and strives to protect the planet through various eco-friendly ventures, which is so important in the age of global warming, and will make you feel good about supporting it.

Lipstick for Your Vagina Is an Actual Thing That Exists

Everyone loves lipstick. Whether you’re a fan of matte, liquid, metallic, glossy or creme (and the list goes on and on), you can never have enough. It seems like more and more new formulas, shades and brands continue to flood the market, giving us a ton of options. One type of lipstick that we’ve never heard of? Lipstick for your vagina.

VMagic, a feminine hygiene company, created a lipstick for your lips… and not the ones on your face. This balm is for the labia (which are the outside lips of your vagina) and NOT intended for internal use. The brand markets the product with a touch of humor with the tagline "Because your other lips get chapped, too.”

Originally reported on by Teen Vogue, the lipstick claims to keep the skin around your lips “balanced, moisturized & purified." It also promises to stop discomfort, moisturize, aid during intimate activity, act as a deodorant, and assist with personal grooming.

These Feminine Lips Sticks ($17.99 at VMagic) are 100% natural, and claim to be effective. What do you think? Next time you shop for some lipstick will you be reaching to try this balm, or will you stick with using your ride-or-die liquid lipstick on your face?

This Is Us' Jack & Rebecca Cannot Break Up, EVER

0
0

Warning: The following contains spoilers from the This Is Us season finale.

I’ve made my attachment to the Pearsons clear. They are the TV family we all wish we were a part of, and that’s largely due to Jack and Rebecca. Their loving and unique yet seemingly attainable relationship grounds not just their family but the entire This Is Us universe.

Tuesday’s season finale, which focused mostly on the Pearson parents, left us hanging on the couple’s fate, with Jack, at his wife’s request, leaving home to stay with Miguel after a blow-up fight.

Throughout its season-long run, many, myself included, have compared This Is Us to Parenthood, another NBC weeper made good by its real world take on family. But shift your focus to a different real-as-it-gets drama (Hint: Parenthood EP Jason Katims had a hand in it, too) and you’ll see the very reason why Jack and Rebecca can’t break up…EVER.

That series is Friday Night Lights. FNL told a lot of great stories, but none as rich as Coach and Tami Taylor’s marriage. They had hard times, even times when I thought this is the moment their relationship is going to break. But it never did.

If you watch much TV, you know the drill: couples get together and they break up. Sometimes they get back together and break up again. It’s the nature of TV relationships, and it’s something I’ve come to terms with. But every once in a while, a rare couple comes along that is untouchable. There’s no storyline where they don’t exist together, and if the show chooses to ignore this and split them up anyway, a major misstep is immediately evident.

Friday Night Lights was wise enough to see this in Coach and Tami. I see it in Jack and Rebecca. Knowing that Jack has limited time with his wife and children makes the marital tension cringe-worthy enough. I would argue, though, that even if Jack wasn’t headed for death, he and Rebecca are still a virtually extinct type of on-screen couple that cannot and will not end things.

We won’t know the state of Jack and Rebecca’s relationship until This Is Us returns for Season 2, but I hope the show makes the brave choice and follows FNL’s road less traveled.

Kylie Jenner Swears by These 8 Brow Products

Kylie Jenner knows that her personal beauty look and routine is highly sought after. Part of the reason that her brand, Kylie Cosmetics, is so popular is that her influence and impact on the beauty world were already huge before she even launched her brand. If you want lips like Kylie’s, she encourages you to reach for one of her sometimes controversial lip kits ($29 at Kylie Cosmetics) and if you want one of her intricate, professional-looking smokey eye looks, she wants you to grab one of her Kyliners ($26 at Kylie Cosmetics).

Recently on her app, Kylie divulged some of her secrets to get her sculpted, immaculate brows. This time, however, her solution wasn’t a personally-branded product. Jenner revealed eight products that you can be guaranteed to find in her own makeup bag, which help her get the brows of your dreams.

1. Brow Wiz ($21 at Anastasia Beverly Hills)

This product in Medium Brown is Kylie’s “go-to.” The pencil is precise enough to create thin strokes that can imitate the look of your real brow hairs. Whether you simply need to fill in a few sparse areas, or your brows need a lot of work to be Instagram-worthy, this pencil should be your ride-or-die as well.

2. Retractable Brow Pencil - Waterproof ($12 at Sephora

This Sephora Collection pencil is a more affordable alternative to the ABH option listed above. Since it comes in seven different shades, you’re likely to find your perfect match.

3. L’Oréal Brow Stylist Definer ($8.99 at Ulta)

A 4.5 star rating on Ulta promises that this pencil will make your brows defined and precise. On fleek, if you will.

4. Brow Perfector ($24 at Nars)

Like the other brow pencils listed above, this one, produced by the luxury brand Nars, promises to give your brows a velvety, long-lasting finish. While I’ve never had the desire for my brows to appear velvety, it does sound appealing.

5. Professional Eyebrow Pencil ($4 at Rimmel London)

Available in three shades, this drugstore pick has great reviews, and gives us high hopes; especially considering its steal of a price.

6. Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel ($24 at Sephora)

This brow gel is perfect for those low-maintenance days when you don’t feel like spending twenty minutes fussing with a pencil for Insta-worthy brows. With just one swipe, your brows will instantly appear fuller and frame your face better.

7. Eye Brow Pencil ($24 at Laura Mercier)

This pencil boasts a natural-looking brow effect. Since the brand, Laura Mercier, is known for its products that assist in creating natural, perfect-looking beauty, this claim seems fitting! That said, its 2-star rating may mean you should stick to Kylie's more popular choices.

8. NYX Cosmetics Automatic Eyebrow Pencil ($4.99 at Ulta)

We love that Kylie included drugstore, and cheaper alternatives. Even this beauty mogul and millionaire teen knows that a good beauty buy doesn’t always need to cost a lot.

Study Shows Women Experience More Stress than Men from Same Things

According to a new study out of the UK, women experience more stress than men when they go through the same life events. As reported by EurekAlert!, “life events such as death of a loved one, illness, losing their smartphone and Brexit” were far more psychologically impactful events for women than men.

In the study, 2,000 people self-reported their stress levels in relation to common life events, and on the whole, women’s responses were higher. Young and more highly educated people reported greater experiences of stress for their experiences with Brexit, and the most stressed members of the study were from Scotland. What’s going on over there, fam? Let us help!

We may talk about it all the time day to day, but stress (especially when it’s experienced for long periods of time) is nothing to joke about. “During stress, the body prepares for action by releasing hormones into the bloodstream, which affects the heart as well as digestive and immune systems,” according to EurekAlert!. “Frequent and prolonged stress can cause long term physiological problems in the body.”

There was one significant finding from the study that was certainly unique to Britain: “The East of England was notably upset by delays in their commutes.” “Notably upset.” Does that not sound like the most adorably British thing ever? I’m surely being offensive when I say this, but I read that in my head in an English accent and pretend I’m holding a fancy teacup and have a white lace handkerchief hanging out of my sleeve.

We can take some degree of comfort in knowing that we all feel the same way about the things that stress us out. “Some stressful events seemingly never change, with participants singling out ‘family arguments at Christmas,’” according to the study. Honestly, that's me. Not even in dealing with the arguments, just in anticipating the very stress. It’s all compounded.

The consequences of high stress levels are serious. “Elevated levels of hormones can a ect normal bodily processes leading to insomnia, depression, and problems with sexual function,” according to the study. Yeah, no thanks.

What does this mean for women’s overall health? Women’s lifespans? The relationships women develop? All I know is science and medicine better figure out exactly how to address these problems as women particularly experience them, and the world better stop trying to overwork us.

Another U.S. University Tried to Have an ‘Affirmative Action Bake Sale’

0
0

I guess no one wanted to learn from the backlash when this happened at the University of Texas at Austin in October. At the University of Illinois on Tuesday, the college republicans (the Illini Republicans) club at the school decided they would go about rewriting history in accordance with their own prejudices, USA Today College reports..

The Illini Republicans tried not to admit they were being racist by explaining affirmative action as economically unproductive. “By allegorizing affirmative action to something as simple as a bake sale, we hope to demonstrate the silliness of implementing this policy on a macro level,” the students wrote on their Facebook page. Someone needs an education in neoliberalism. Holler at me, Illini Republicans. I’m here with Foucault in hand, ready for your resistance.

According to the club’s members, “affirmative action has not decreased racial discrimination; it has promoted it.” Can we not all just agree to the fact that, when people who experience racism (i.e., people who aren’t WHITE) call something racist, we should defer to them? Privileged people do not get to determine what qualifies as poverty. Men don’t get to determine what women do with their bodies. White people cannot claim to know or not know what racism is. They are not the authority. That's the whole point!

There was indeed outcry upon the bake sale being set up. A number of students of color responded with ~clever signage~ denouncing the implications and direct prejudice it put forth for minorities.

"We believe the bake sale was a tremendous success," Illini Republicans Vice President Timothy Kilcullen told USA Today College. Literally for whom? You had protesters and are now being vilified in the media for being this patently offensive.

How Jessie Rosen Turned Talking About Sex Into A Comedy Show

0
0

When Jessie Rosen was growing up, sex was not a typical topic of conversation. In fact, it was rare that anything even close to sex or other acts of intimacy would be brought up. So when she moved to Los Angeles, she knew that the first thing she wanted to do to break into the comedic scene was talk about sex. Because, well, why the hell not? From that, Sunday Night Sex Talks was born.

If the name of her show sounds familiar, that's because it was featured on JoJo's season of The Bachelorette, when her suitors shared their best sex stories on stage at this exact comedy show. So really, it's thanks to Rosen that we know about Wells' threesome. #Bless

Lucky for me, I recently got a chance to attend the very first co-ed performance of Sunday Night Sex Talks, and it's safe to say it was one of the best evenings I've ever had. There weren't any men fighting over a Bachelorette, but there were a bunch of hilarious comedians, so really, I win. During the show, each comedian had a chance to go on stage and tell a story.

"Sunday Night Sex Talks is obviously about sex, but for me, it’s more so about intimacy and about kind of connection around intimacy," Rosen told me before the show began. So although most of the acts involved some sort of sexual topic, that wasn't the main goal of SNST.

Overall, when creating the show, Rosen knew that she wanted to erase the taboo associated with sex; she wanted people to talk about it. "We see sex all the time, right? It’s all over TV, it’s all over the news, it’s all over movies. But like, we don’t talk about it in a forthcoming, vulnerable way really ever," Rosen says.

Sunday Night Sex Talks seeks to change that. "Part of my goal with this show is to kind of challenge people to say things that will allow other people to say things. So for example, you come to this show and you experience or you hear something, and then you’re more comfortable saying to your girl friend or your guy friend or your boyfriend, 'Oh my god, I’ve been through that,' or, 'I kind of want to do that,'" she says.

Although my boyfriend (my plus one!) and I didn't automatically go home after the show and spill all of our deepest, darkest sexual fantasies and dreams, going to SNST did create an environment where we both knew that was totally okay. What more could I ask for?

This Woman Lost a Job Interview Because She Asked About Pay & Benefits

0
0

Taylor Byrnes was preparing for a second interview with a Canadian food delivery company when her interview was abruptly canceled, BuzzFeed News reported. The reason? She had asked about the job’s pay and benefits.

Byrnes had sent an email to the HR rep at SkipTheDishes asking what the hourly wage for the position was and whether benefits would be included. The HR rep replied, saying, “Your questions reveal that your priorities are not in sync with those of SkipTheDishes. At this time we will not be following through with our meeting this Thursday.”

The company followed up, stating that their start-up culture was about “hard work and perseverance” rather than “focusing on compensation," Women’s Health Magazine reported. Because, you know, asking about how much you will get paid means you aren't hardworking. NOT.

Asking about salary and benefits can often be a tricky part of the interview and hiring process for someone looking to secure a job. This was even more difficult for Byrnes because job listings on the SkipTheDishes’ website do not provide details on compensation at all.

According to CBC News, the company eventually apologized and offered to reschedule the interview. Co-founder Joshua Simair said the email to Byrnes was wrong and didn’t represent the company’s approach.

“We were very disappointed in how it was handled. We do share a compensation package prior to hiring. As soon as we became aware of it on Monday, we reached out to Taylor to apologize for the email and reschedule her interview,” he said.

Google's Trying to Flag Offensive Information That Could Show Up in Your Search Results

0
0

Google is working to combat criticism over misinformation in its search results by adding human quality raters, who will hunt for “Upsetting-Offensive” content and deliver more factually accurate results, USA Today reported.

According to USA Today, 10,000 independent contractors have been recruited for the job. They are given real searches and score the results, based on guidelines provided by Google.

“Upsetting-Offensive” content includes hate or violent speech against a group of people, racial slurs or offensive terminology, graphic violence or explicit information about harmful activities like sex trafficking, according to the nearly 200-page guidelines produced by Google.

“We’re explicitly avoiding the term ‘fake news’, because we think it is too vague,” Paul Haahr, a Google senior engineer involved with the project, told Search Engine Land. “Demonstrably inaccurate information, however, we want to target.”

Results flagged as “Upsetting-Offensive” will be used to help Google’s human coders improve the algorithm, Search Engine Land wrote. Over time, the idea is that the algorithm will be able to automatically spot pages that should be flagged itself.

However, it is important to note that being flagged in this way doesn’t mean that the content won’t appear on Google at all. In cases where someone is explicitly seeking out a piece of content, like a climate-change denial page for example, Google will still deliver the person to that content.

Although this won’t eliminate all of the misinformation and offensive content out there in cyberspace, Google’s latest project is taking a step in the right direction to ensure that quality, informed content will appear in our search results.

We’ll be the first to admit that our online shopping addiction isn’t exactly great for our wallets – but what if we told you it’s possible to save a little cash when shopping online, while scoring unique or vintage pieces? While most of us immediately turn to vintage stores or thrift shops for deals on one-of-a-kind pieces, there are also some amazing websites out there that are basically online thrift stores (with more options!). Below, we spilled about a few of our faves.

1. ASOS Marketplace

Vintage Wrangler blue logo oversize denim jacket ($55.25)

ASOS is already your go-to for browsing endless pages of trendy, of-the-moment pieces from your favorite brands – but did you know about their Marketplace section? ASOS Marketplace features shops from hundreds of independent designers and vintage boutiques. Since it’s a British site, tons of U.K.-based vintage and thrift stores have set up shop there – meaning you can shop some of London’s best vintage offerings without flying across the pond.

2. The Vintage Twin

Sleeveless black velvet dress ($59)

If you’re looking for a unique piece that no one else will have (because everything is one-of-a-kind!) this is the place to find it.

3. Poshmark

Topshop MA1 Bomber ($70)

Trump's Travel Ban Was Blocked a Second Time and He Called it a 'Judicial Overreach'

A federal judge in Hawaii blocked President Trump’s second travel ban hours before it was supposed to have taken effect on Wednesday.

NBC News reports the revised executive order called for a suspension of admission of almost all refugees for 120 days and a restriction of visas for nationals from Muslim-majority countries Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days. The previous order also restricted visas for Iraqi citizens, and applied to green card holders.

A second federal judge from Maryland specifically blocked the 90-day ban on immigrants from these six countries on Thursday, according to CNN. Both judges cited Trump’s comments about Muslims during the 2016 presidential campaign as part of their reasoning.

Trump called the ruling “bad, sad news” and “an unprecedented judicial overreach” during a rally Wednesday night in Nashville, saying the ruling "makes us look weak.”

USA Today reports Trump said he would take the order all the way to the Supreme Court if needed. But the repeated blocks by judges so far don't bode too well for the ban's future in higher courts.

U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson said Trump’s travel discriminated immigrants based on religion. He also said the restraining order applies nationwide, according to NBC News.

Watson cited public statements made by Trump in his argument that the ban was discriminatory against Muslims. Trump said he was “establishing a new vetting measure to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the United States of America” because “we don’t want them here.” Hard to argue that doesn't target Muslims specifically.

Watson also cited comments made by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Trump supporter, in January: “When he [Trump] first announced it," Giuliani said, "he said, ‘Muslim ban.’ He called me up. He said, ‘Put a commission together. Show me the right way to do it legally.”

Trump has yet to comment on Thursday’s additional ruling, but knowing him, you can be sure there is a response coming. His press secretary, Sean Spicer, did say Thursday that the administration would be appealing both rulings.

17 Reasons To Date An Alpha Female

The Alpha female—she’s assertive, driven, passionate and purposeful. She’s self-confident and demands respect, and while her attributes make her a great leader, she is often seen as “too-assertive” or too intimidating to date. While many are unable to handle the dominant and go-getter nature of the alpha female, those who are able to rise up to the challenge will quickly realize why dating an Alpha female is a far better experience than seeking a submissive, “ladylike” partner.

1. She will challenge you

An Alpha woman will make you work harder, think more, and do better than you ever have before. She will constantly want you to rise to her growing standards and expectations. If you’re up for the challenge, she will turn you into a better partner, professional and overall better person.

2. She has ambitions

She’s career-oriented and self-driven, and she’ll push you to be the same.

3. She knows what she wants

Whether it be where to eat, or when it comes to defining the relationship, the Alpha woman knows what she wants, and she’s not afraid to admit it.

4. She doesn’t require your validation

She appreciates your compliments, but she doesn’t live off of them. The Alpha woman is a self-loving individual who finds confidence and validation from herself and her accomplishments, not from others. Tell her she’s beautiful, tell her she’s amazing—but know that she understands she’s beautiful and amazing without you telling her too.

5. She’s more difficult to impress

Women like her are easily entertained, but seldom impressed—know the difference. If you’re trying to win her heart, know it’ll take more convincing than dinner and a movie, and if you can rise to the challenge, you’ll quickly find out why the Alpha woman is always worth it.

6. She lives with purpose

She doesn’t talk for the sake of talking or “do” for the sake of doing. The Alpha woman is always on a mission, and she seeks fulfillment from her busy, productive lifestyle.

7. She embraces change

Change is the norm for an Alpha woman, who is always looking ahead to the next phase in her life. Spontaneity and change doesn’t phase her, but does it phase you?

8. She’s a risk taker

Because she understands that life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

9. She’s confident

While insecurities are difficult to completely eliminate, the Alpha female gets pretty damn close. She’s naturally confident, and why wouldn’t she be? She’s an empowered, goal-oriented individual who lives with poise and purpose.

10. She’s passionate

She gives 100 percent to her passions, interests, relationships and hobbies. Everything an Alpha female does is with passion and for a purpose.

11. She’ll intimidate you a little

But that’s okay. Her intention isn’t to threaten you, it’s to show the world that she isn’t to be messed with. While her go-getter personality and headstrong attitude will turn away the weak, if you treat her with respect and admiration, you’ll find her demeanor more attractive than intimidating.

12. She craves stability

In her hectic life, the alpha female craves stability in her all of her relationships. She’s decisive, communicative and she knows what she wants.

13. She doesn’t let someone take advantage of her

The Alpha female knows how to stand up for herself. Expect her to be confident and well-spoken, don’t expect her to meaninglessly apologize.

14. She’s straight to the point

Because she doesn’t understand the need for small talk, conversations full of “fluff” or passive-aggression.

15. She demands respect over affection

Because respect lasts longer, anyway.

16. She won’t fight with you, she’ll debate

Arguing with an alpha female is fruitless. If you want to prove your point, you’ll have to debate.

17. She values your loyalty

Because at the end of the day all the Alpha female really wants is someone to consistently support and uplift her.

If you've been intrigued by natural cosmetics lately, but are hesitant to take the plunge, you may want to try Trilogy Skincare. This New Zealand brand has been available in the U.S. since 2015 and retails at Whole Foods and Amazon, among others. Products start at $15, which is a pretty small price to pay for not putting a bunch of crap on your skin. Oh also, Cara Delevingne is obsessed with it, so there's that.

Trilogy originated when two sisters (yay for boss ladies!) discovered the benefits of rosehip oil. This miracle ingredient does everything, from providing deep moisture to minimizing the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Since then, the range has grown to include tons of amazing natural ingredients, such as acai oil and caramel. Is your foodie heart happy yet?

As for Cara, she uses the Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+ ($29.99 at Amazon). According to Reveal.co.uk, the celeb uses "a few drops of this skin smoothing hero after cleansing in the evening and before her moisturiser come morning." Sounds easy enough?? Supermodel skin, here I come.

If you need another reason to add Trilogy to your skincare regimen, the brand takes its commitment to social responsibility VERY seriously. They partner with international organizations to support fair trade production and female empowerment, and do everything in their power to protect the environment, so you can feel really good about purchasing their products.

Here's Why Selena Gomez Doesn't Run Her Own Instagram Anymore

The most followed user on Instagram doesn't even run her own account? Selena Gomez, who boasts 113 million followers on Instagram, revealed in an interview with Vogue that not only does her assistant run her account but she also doesn't have the app or know her password.

"As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out," Gomez said. "It had become so consuming to me. It's what I woke up to and went to sleep to.”

Gomez continued, explaining the negative impact the social media platform had on her mental health and self-esteem. “I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn't want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn't want to care about,” she said. “I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I'm kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit."

Gomez took a three-month-long hiatus last fall and checked into a psychiatric facility in Tennessee, surrendering her phone in the process. Presumably since then, her Instagram and other social media accounts have not been in her control. In fact, according to Selena, she wishes she could disappear from social media altogether.

Selena's digital disconnect doesn’t end with Instagram. She currently doesn’t have much contact with the outside world and lives off the grid in an Airbnb in the Valley. “I think seventeen people have my phone number right now,” she told the magazine. “Maybe two are famous.”

Her break from Instagram just proves once again how honest she is with herself and her fans, not to mention her relatability. Who hasn’t wasted an hour scrolling through Instagram, feeling their self-esteem evaporate with each new photo of someone else’s “perfect life”?

“People so badly wanted me to be authentic and when that happened, finally, it was a huge release," Selena admitted. "I’m not different from what I put out there. I’ve been very vulnerable with my fans, and sometimes I say things I shouldn’t. But I have to be honest with them. I feel that’s a huge part of why I’m where I am.”
