This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Casey La Vie, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

If you’re struggling to find the motivation to get things done, you’re not alone. As much as I love blogging, my day job and working out, there are plenty of times when actually doing the work is the last thing i feel like doing. That’s the thing, motivation comes and goes, so you have to learn how to commit to achieving your goals whether or not you’re feeling motivated that day. Here’s how I get shit done even when I don’t feel like it.

Make a List

Make a list of the small, specific tasks you need to do. The more specific the better. Instead of “clean house,” write out each small task like load dishwasher, vacuum floors, fold and organize laundry, etc. A to-do like “clean house” can seem overwhelming and intimidating to get started. By breaking down the larger task into simple steps, they become easier to cross off. And once you start crossing items off the to-do list, the more motivated you’ll become.

Try the Pomodoro Technique

Here’s how the pomodoro technique works:

  • Determine a task that needs to be accomplished.
  • Set a time for 25 minutes.
  • Work on the task until the timer goes off and make a mark on a sheet of paper to track this.
  • Take a short break. Five minutes is okay.
  • Every four sets or “pomodoros,” take a longer break, such as 10-15 minutes.

By breaking up your work, you allow yourself to get hyper-focused during those periods of work, but you don’t burn yourself out because you have regular breaks. This technique isn’t for everyone, but is worth giving a try!

'The Mindy Project' Perfectly Roasted White Male Privilege

We all know that Mindy Lahiri is a feminist, but this week's episode of The Mindy Project—very appropriately titled "Mindy Lahiri Is a White Man"—dives deep into the issues of sexism and racism that women of color face every day. When Mindy doesn't get chosen for a second interview for a department head job at the hospital, she knows it's because she's a non-white woman. After all, the panel of interviewers is made up of exclusively old white men. One of them even questions her status as a single mother, while another wonders if she can "keep her emotions in check" while on the job. Although he says every candidate is asked this question, Mindy suspects differently. She is a woman of color in America, after all, and is not unfamiliar with the privilege of white men.

So that night, Mindy goes to sleep with one wish on her mind: to be a white man. Ta-da! When she wakes the next morning, she has white skin, blonde hair and a penis! She's still the same old Mindy on the inside, but now as an attractive, white single father, she exudes privilege. Mindy finds that, as "Mike," she can easily hail a cab and "manspread" on the subway, and patients don't question her medical knowledge. She even discovers that this version of herself has a second interview for the hospital position. Coincidence? Probably not.

Since "Mike" gets away with being late to work, Mindy finds herself missing a morning surgery that's covered by Dr. Lee, the only other Asian woman being considered for the department head position. She, like Mindy, didn't get a second interview. However, Mindy realizes that Dr. Lee is an amazing doctor and deserves the position even more than her. So she decides to use her newfound privilege for good: to land Dr. Lee a second interview.

That proves tough, however, as Mindy realizes how little the interviewers care about women. While Dr. Lee's interview is basically a brush-off so she doesn't sue the hospital, "Mike's" second interview is barely an interview at all. The men joke around and wave off Mindy's attempts to discuss her resume. When she asks if they are concerned about "Mike's" ability to juggle work with his family life, they seem utterly confused—a stark contrast to the way they interrogated Mindy in her interview.

The Mindy Project perfectly encapsulated the casual and monumental ways racism and sexism play a role in the workplace and in everyday life for women of color. By juxtaposing Mindy's normal routine with "Mike's," the audience can clearly see the distinct lines between the privilege of being a white man and the struggles of being a brown woman in America. Whether it's the ability to get a cab within seconds or being unjustly overlooked for a job, the benefits of white male privilege are clear.

Although neither Dr. Lee nor Mindy get the job in the end (that right goes to a senile white doctor who was technically never convicted of killing his wife), Mindy learns something valuable in the end. She and Dr. Lee bond over the situation and their similar struggles. Racism and sexism may have won again this time, but with these two powerful women working together, that way of thinking won't last long.

John Legend Opens Up About Supporting Chrissy Teigen Through Her Postpartum Depression

One of our fave Hollywood couples, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, has managed to melt our hearts once again. But then again, are you really surprised?

Chrissy wrote a personal essay in Glamour last week about her postpartum depression after the birth of her and John's first child, Luna. Our homegirl Chrissy always keeps it real, and this essay is no exception.

Throughout her battle, John has been lovingly supporting his wife and honestly we expected nothing less from him.

In her essay, Teigen praised her husband. She wrote, "He’s exactly as compassionate, patient, loving, and understanding as he seems." Teigen added, "John has been incredible over the last nine months, bringing me my medicine and watching horrible reality TV with me…He wants me to be happy, silly, and energetic again, but he’s not making me feel bad when I’m not in that place. I love John and Luna more than I can imagine loving anything."

Legend also opened up to People about how he has supported his wife during her depression. “For me as a husband, it was my job to do the best I could to support her and understand what she was going through and do whatever I could do to help her. I feel like that’s the least I could do,” he said.

He was also so proud of her for sharing her story. "I’m glad she wrote about it,” he said. “I think it was powerful for her to let a lot of women know they’re not alone, and no matter how much money you have or fame, anybody can feel that. And it’s hard for anybody no matter how successful you are and how many resources you have.”

He also gave some advice on understanding postpartum depression. "[As a man] you don’t know internally what it feels like. You should read about it and understand what it is and really just be there to help,” he recommends. “You need to be present and you need to be compassionate. And we’re all learning and trying to figure it out as we go. At least do that and try to figure it out together.”

According to Elle, Chrissy continues to cope with postpartum depression, and John will keep on supporting her in whatever way possible. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, constantly redefining couple goals.

Why Today is a #ProtectTransWomen Day of Action

So far in 2017, seven transgender women have been killed, according to CBS News. That's a horrifying trend, but it fits in with past years—in 2016, at least 21 trans women were killed. Activists have named Wednesday, March 15 a national day of action to fight back against the devaluing of trans women's lives.

GetEQUAL and several other organizations signed on to the day of action, encouraging people to donate, educate themselves and post on social media with the hashtag #ProtectTransWomen.

Director of GetEQUALAngela Peoples told MTV News that the day is all about saying, "we will love [black trans women] and we will protect them and show up with and for them while they are here, not just when they are taken from us."

So let's get to it—Check out GetEQUAL's website for concrete ways you can help educate yourself and support others.

Kim Kardashian Has a Convincing Theory About How She Was Robbed

In a chilling preview of next Sunday's Keeping Up With the Kardashians, sisters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé are shown discussing the night Kim was robbed in a Paris apartment last October. The terrifying ordeal has been the center of much controversy over the past few months, and if we're sure of anything, it's that no one knows exactly what happened. While there are many theories and speculations surrounding the robbery, Kim has a theory of her own about what went down leading up to those terrifying moments.

In the clip, Kim tells her sisters that from across the street you can see there's a light on in the apartment. "So they must have been told we were the first floor," she continues. "They definitely were watching. So, I turned the lights off and went upstairs."

The clip then shows Kim by herself speaking to the camera. "What I think happened now, after thinking about it so much, is that there was probably a group of guys that were following us the entire trip," Kim says. "I was Snapchatting that I was home and that everyone was going out." The clip then shows photos from that night and a shot of Kim on Snapchat, where it's evident that she was alone in the apartment while her bodyguard Pascal was out with Kourtney.

"I think they knew Pascal was out with Kourtney, and that I was there by myself. They had to have known we were leaving that day. They had this window of opportunity and just went for it," Kim concludes.

This is definitely a theory that we can believe, and hopefully it will shut down all the rumors that the terrifying crime was a publicity stunt. Watch the clip below for a preview, and catch the next episode of KUWTK this Sunday for the rest of the story!

The Internet Is Confused By Wonder Woman's Strangely Hairless Armpits

If you haven't seen the new Wonder Woman trailer that was released this past weekend, then you might want to prepare yourself for a major Photoshop fail—or better yet, a major life fail in general. 2017 is well underway and has seen so much fight for women and feminism, but unfortunately, it seems as though hair on a woman's underarms is still a big no-no in the movie business. "Now what does this have to do with Wonder Woman?" you might ask. Just take a look at a screenshot from the 1:47 mark of the trailer. What did y'all do to Wonder Woman's armpits?!

Although Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most likely female characters to have armpit hair (she grew up on an island of women, for crying out loud), someone in charge obviously decided that wasn't the case. It's painfully clear that Gal Gadot's armpits were digitally tampered with, evident by their awkward smoothness and discoloration. Whether a woman has armpit hair/stubble or not is her choice—both options are perfectly fine and dandy. But what isn't cool is the fact that the minds behind Wonder Woman felt the need to erase the hairs all together and pretend that badass women like Wonder Woman walk around with flawless armpits.

Rather than focusing on such a trivial thing, let's instead celebrate the fact that Wonder Woman is a total badass and a powerful representation of women, armpit hair or not.

Snoop Dogg's New Music Video Has Made Donald Trump Very Unhappy

Snoop Dogg isn’t being subtle about his opinion of Donald Trump in his latest music video, CNN reports. The video for “Lavender” (Nightfall Remix) ft. Kaytranada is causing quite the controversy—it features a clown called “Ronald Klump,” and it doesn't get much more obvious than that.

At one point, Klump is depicted at a “Clown House” press conference, with the news crawl reading “Ronald Klump wants to deport all doggs.” Later on, Snoop Dogg fires a fake pistol at Trump.

Sen. Marco Rubio, known for liking hip hop, told TMZ that this wasn’t Snoop’s best move. "We've had presidents assassinated before in this country, so anything like that is something people should be really careful about,” Rubio says.

Snoop told Billboard that his thought process of writing the song was to "mak(e) a song that was not controversial but real—real to the voice of the people who don’t have a voice.” He went on to say, "I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this fucking clown as president, and the shit that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being."

Well Snoop, you got your point across.

Trump, predictably, wasn't pleased. He tweeted, "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!"

That may or may not be true, but Trump's anger about this video is definitely greater than his anger about most issues facing our country, as many people pointed out.

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd just took things to a new level. What first seemed like an innocent Instagram pic subtly told us so much more. As People reported, Gomez posted a photo on Instagram with her friends in the recording studio, wearing a red oversized Supreme hoodie. The Weeknd was not in the photo, but his presence was still strong—because that hoodie belongs to him. EEK!

Obama and Biden: an iconic duo that meme-makers have capitalized on to light up our lives.

And in case these couldn't get any better, we now know that Joe Biden knows about them. His daughter Ashley Biden told Moneyish that when he first learned about what was making him go viral, he “sat there for an hour and laughed.”

Ugh, how adorable.

And it turns out he even has a favorite meme of himself! Let it shine in all of its glory:

A McDonald's Employee Jumped Through the Drive-Thru Window to Save a Customer's Life

An employee at a Florida McDonald’s saved an off-duty police officer and her children from potential disaster on Tuesday morning, Fox News reports.

Pedro Viloria jumped through the window of the drive-thru of the Doral, Florida McDonald’s, where he works, after a customer lost consciousness after ordering and began to roll away in her car.

As seen on surveillance footage, Viloria jumped through the drive-thru window and pulled the officer from her car as it rolled through the drive-thru. The woman's children were also in the car.

Another employee and paramedics who happened to be in the restaurant at the time helped to revive her before she was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

According to a Fox News affiliate, Fox 5 NY, a representative for McDonald’s released a statement praising Viloria.

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time,” McDonald’s wrote. “I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro. He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman. And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed. A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR. Their quick thinking and action were everything in that moment.”

A lot of awful stuff is in the news every day, but stories like these remind us that the world's not all bad. The kindness of strangers makes all the difference!

6 Ways to Handle a Stressful Job or Internship

$

You have classes all morning, scarf down lunch before the staff meeting at 3:00 followed by answering phone calls and emails all afternoon until the fundraising event for your club at 7:00. Suddenly it’s pitch black outside, and as you finally get to sit down on your couch for the first time all day, you can’t help but feel like your work-life balance is completely out of whack. Here are some easy and effective ways to go from overworked, overwhelmed and overloaded to cool, calm and collected in the office.

Any collegiette knows that being a student while holding down a job or internship can lead to extremely jam-packed weeks. Following these six tips can help you alleviate stress, while still excelling at work and tending to your own needs.

When your job or internship has you clocking in way more hours than you signed up for, answering emails from your bed at 1 a.m. and canceling plans with your loved ones last minute, it might be time to stop and take a step back. Follow this easy and effective guide to de-stressing from your crazy job or internship to re-discover your love for your career without sacrificing your personal well-being.

1. Say yes because you want to, not because you’re available

Being the “yes” person at work always makes a great impression, but when you sign up to work whenever you have free time in your schedule, soon you may feel stretched in a million different directions. Instead, next time the boss asks who can take on the extra client they just signed, or stay an hour late to re-file paperwork, consider if it’s a task you’d actually enjoy doing or gain valuable experience from, not just if you’re schedule is open.

2. Space out your productivity

We’ve all been there: You’re making a PowerPoint for your next internship presentation, while trying to answer emails, watch some YouTube videos and stay up to date on you favorite celebrity’s Instagram story. Suddenly three hours have passed and you’ve made two slides. You’re left feeling like you worked all day, but you don’t really have anything to show for it. Instead of making your whole day semi-productive, pick a few hours to really focus on just your work assignment to get it done and then give yourself an hour of full de-stressing and relaxation. When you go to bed that night you’ll feel both accomplished and zen.

3. Rediscover your hobbies

Right now might seem like the worst possible time to add even more to your plate, but rediscovering the activities you’ve put on the backburner to focus on work might just be the break you so need. Whether it’s baking, shopping at farmers’ markets, doing community service or taking your pooch on a hike, finding even an hour on your weekends to dedicate to your passion will allow you to feel like yourself again, and fully recharged once the work week rolls around.

4. Take a technology time-out

Most jobs and internship positions require working on some sort of technology for the majority of the day. To avoid becoming an electronic zombie, try putting down the phone and laptop when you leave the office for the night. When balancing several editorial positions became too much electronic time for senior Kristin Perrone from Siena College, she learned to de-connected when she clocked out. “After coming home from my summer internship this past year, I made a point of hanging out with my family and talking to them rather than going straight to my bed and watching Netflix,” she said. “Your eyes really don’t need more exposure to a screen after a full day’s work.”

5. Consult a trusted work mentor

It’s never a good idea to bash your company or a fellow employee, but talking to someone who’s been in your shoes may give you valuable advice on how to handle all your responsibilities at work. Maybe you’re taking on a job solo that someone else at the office wants to help you with, or not using a certain system that would cut the time you spend on an assignment in half.

6. Walk it out

When it all gets too much and you feel like your head is going to explode, it’s best for you and those around you to just remove yourself from the situation for a bit. Take a 15 minute walk outside on a nice day or even on a different floor of your building to give your brain a break and your body some light exercise. You’ll come back feeling cool as a cucumber.

7. Focus on the bigger picture

When things are getting crazy, sometimes it’s best to take a step back to gain perspective. Cassidy Lawson who earned her Master of Education degree in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University in Virginia, now works at the Career and Academic Planning Office at JMU. From her personal experiences with multiple leadership positions, studies in graduate school and work advising students starting their careers, Cassidy suggests concentrating on the bigger picture. She recommends, “focusing on what you can accomplish and how you can leave your mark in a positive way. You just have to be very intentional about your experience.” Instead of trying to take on every single task at work, spend time figuring out what you’re most passionate about and what skills and experiences you want to gain from your job, and prioritize your time on those projects.

Stress is natural part of life and something we all feel from time to time while trying to manage all the commitments that go along with being a collegiette in the workplace. When you’re job becomes too much to bear and is getting in the way of being able to function properly, it may be time to take a step back and re-evaluate how you’re spending your time. Remembering to take time for yourself, ask for help, make a change when needed, and trying these tips, will help reset your work-life balance, making you a happier in the long run.

Even Beyoncé Gets Embarassed by Her Mom

Beyoncé is a goddess, that has already been decided. But how did she become a goddess, you might ask? Well, as per usual, goddesses come from other amazing creatures. And in this case, that creature is Tina Lawson.

Although to the general public (aka me and all my friends) Tina is a perfect human who gives us all the behind-the-scenes knowledge into the lives of her superstar children, to Beyoncé she is just a normal and embarrassing mom.

Good Morning SunshinesHappy Thursday.

According to Mashable, in Tina's most recent Instagram post, she said that Beyoncé doesn't think she should do her corny jokes anymore on social media. But because she is not getting any younger, she explained, she'd rather not stop. In fact, you should make as many jokes as you can!

"If you find some good light, you're supposed to take advantage of it. I've done quite a few in one spot so I could have them but it's okay, I'm 63, what can I say," she said. Amen, Tina, amen. Keep doing you, please.

16 Thoughts You Have After Watching Too Much HGTV

Watching HGTV is always a wild ride. Whether houses are being flipped, property experts are executing unrealistically high-priced renovations or couples are on the hunt to find their “dream home,” there’s something satisfying about watching these frivolous things unfold. Having HGTV on constantly may cause you to become a self-proclaimed home “expert” of sorts, and you may tend to have these thoughts when watching so much of this highly-addicting channel.

1. How do these people have endless amounts of money to spend on stainless steel appliances?

2. Barbara, that tile floor DOES NOT match those countertops.

3. Hon, you need to knock those walls down and make it an open concept.

4. Okay, there’s nooooooo way they’re gonna stay within budget.

5. Yep, there it is. An extra $10,000 for a house that has two hot tubs.

6. When will people learn that wanting five bathrooms in THAT price range is unrealistic?

7. How do y’all expect Hillary to renovate your one bedroom bungalow for $20,000 and turn it into a mansion with three floors and a moat?

8. Love It or List It should just be called They Almost Always Choose List It.

9. Why do the people on House Hunters International always forget that they need to think about getting new jobs when THEY’RE MOVING OUT OF THE COUNTRY?

10. These suburban couples always want more room for "entertaining." I’d want more room for my dogs and snack collection.

11. Which Property Brother do I want to date more?

12. Wow, Debra, maybe you should reconsider that bright yellow paint and orange trim.

13. I’d be so easily swayed by these charming realtors.

14. Where do these people put their five kids when they’re in the middle of renovating their house and looking for a new one?

15. I will never be able to afford anything more than a shoe box.

16. HGTV will be tattooed above my heart one day.

Damon Was Supposed to Propose to Elena in the ‘Vampire Diaries’ Finale

After TheVampire Diaries finale on Friday, I was shook. It totally lived up to my expectations—and like the other episodes, provided the usual dose of heartbreak, tragedy and romance.

Although Caroline and Stefan didn’t get their happy ending, Damon and Elena finally got theirs—and a new beginning. But their story in the finale could have been even sweeter.

According to Cosmopolitan, co-creator Kevin Williamson revealed that the finale was originally supposed to show Damon proposing to Elena. Williamson told TV Guide, “We actually had a moment, which we didn’t have time for―everything got cut. I think the first cut came in 18 minutes over,” he said. “And there was a moment in the show where he proposed and she responded after medical school. And the whole point of that moment was just to show that she became a doctor. And so we thought, ‘Oh, we’ll just put her in scrubs and we can cut that piece.'"

But proposal or not, at least Damon and Elena got their happy ending. Which is more than we can say for Stefan.

Why Going to Rehab was the Best Decision I Ever Made

But after arriving and settling in to my new dorm room in a new city, cramped into a tiny space with two new roommates, I quickly found myself desperately homesick. I missed the endless sunshine of Los Angeles, my friends and my family. Independent since birth, I found myself completely confused with these newfound feelings. Why wasn’t I feeling happy? Isn’t this what I had wanted for so long? Thoughts swirled my mind, and despite my best efforts, I couldn’t push them away. And so, I threw myself into anything and everything I could, determined to push through and try to find some peace of mind. After graduating from high school, I couldn’t wait to begin my college adventure. I had envisioned endless freedom, hot guys, amazing opportunities, and so much more. I had my bags ready and packed two weeks prior to my move-in date; my brand new baby blue sheets and new pillows eagerly waiting their new destination.

I took on a heavy course load, and found myself working two jobs on campus. I fell in love with working—the monotonous tasks of serving bakery goods and coffee cleared my mind for the hours of my shifts. Yet the minute I was off the clock, and my classes were completed for the day, I would trudge back to my dreaded dorm room, with intense feelings of loneliness and depression. I didn’t realize I was depressed at the time; but looking back, I was completely and totally depressed.

One day, I decided to hit the gym. It was a beautiful gym, a center with an Olympic size pool, endless machines, dance classes, and so forth. I hopped onto the treadmill that first day, and spent an hour running. Then I got on the elliptical for another 30 minutes. By the time I was done, I realized it was already time to head to my next class. That day officially became the day that changed my life, and not for the better.

Despite my intense school load, and my two jobs, I still felt desperately unhappy. I couldn’t control how I felt, no matter how hard I tried, but in my mind, there was one thing I did have control over: I could control what I ate, and how I looked. And with this distorted mindset, I developed an eating disorder.

I began to work out for hours on end day after day. I limited my calorie intake, restricting to the bare minimum. Each night I went to bed with my belly growling, I considered a “good” day. I dressed only in leggings for my jeans had become too baggy, and as I watched my friends eat nachos and burritos on Friday night our favorite Mexican restaurant, I silently ate my garden salad, with low fat dressing on the side that I knew I wouldn’t dare to pour over it. In my mind, I was fine. Of course I was fine! I had become a liar, to not only everyone around me, but to myself.

After months of restriction and compulsive exercise, I came home for Thanksgiving break. I confessed to my mom that I was dealing with an eating disorder, but that I would be OK heading back to school. She was concerned, but mostly confused, as she couldn’t really understand my eating disorder. I didn’t blame her; how can anyone understand why someone would want to starve?

So I went back to school, and tried to get it together.  Despite my efforts, my restriction had become an addiction. I was literally addicted to the feeling of being hungry, to counting every single calorie I ate, to just not eating enough food to survive. My menstrual cycle had long stopped, and finally I went to see a doctor. As the nurse read my weight aloud, my mind became obsessed and fixated on the number that was on the scale. I can make it lower, my mind challenged itself, and I went on to attempt to bring the number down lower and lower.

Around January, I came back home and my mom was more concerned than ever. I realized that I had a problem, and that I needed help because I couldn’t do it on my own. We started to look for therapists nearby and found a rehabilitation center near my house. At first, I was mortified. I couldn’t go to rehab; I had a life to live. I had to get back to my 4.0 college GPA, my two jobs and my friends. I didn’t have time to “take a break” and go to rehab. Wasn’t rehab only for alcoholics and drug addicts?

I went back up north to school, and started looking for therapists near the campus. After checking in with a few, they all informed me the same information: I needed help, and I needed something more than just weekly therapy. I couldn’t believe what they were saying.

I finally went to one last therapy center; it was far out from the campus, and very secluded. The intake specialist took down my information, and asked me to step onto the scale backwards. As I slid off my boots, I felt my heart thumping in my chest. I stepped on, wishing I knew the number that she was recording down on her clipboard. We talked about the program; it was a half-day program, which meant I would really have to work hard both at the program and outside of it. The problem was that I honestly did not want to recover. She called my mom after our appointment, and told her that their program wouldn’t be effective enough for me; I needed a partial hospitalization program, something far more intensive.

This was rock bottom for me. I finally sat down, realized that I needed help. I couldn’t do it on my own, and if I wanted to finish school and accomplish all of my hopes and dreams, I was going to need to be alive to do it. And so I made one of the most difficult decisions of my entire life: I decided to take time off from school, move back home and go to the eating disorder center near my house.

Going to rehab changed my life. I spent six months at the rehabilitation center, learning about who I was. I delved into my past, and learned new ways to cope with my anxieties and my fears. I discovered I had OCD compulsions and tendencies, and discovered how much anxiety was pent up inside of me on a daily basis. I learned that food doesn’t have to be “bad” or “scary.” Crying while trying to eat a croissant during challenge snack didn’t mean that I was weak; it meant that I was struggling, but that I had the strength within myself to overcome it.

Going to rehab was the best decision I ever made. It has helped me become self-aware. I know what I want, and what makes me happy. I have re-discovered my love of writing, and am able to communicate more easily with other people and my family. My relationship with food is still a work in progress, and I still meet with a therapist weekly, but I’m in a far much better and happier place.

Is Dating a Friend Worth the Risk?

$

Developing feelings for a friend can be awkward and confusing, especially if the two of you are best friends. Friendships that last don’t come easy, and making that move out of the friendzone can have its complications, so it’s important to weigh the pros and cons before taking the leap. Here are some things to consider when thinking about going from BFF to SO.

1. If it ends, you may lose a valuable friendship

This is one of the obvious risks of dating a good friend. If all goes well, the two of you can continue the friendship while also pursuing a romantic relationship together. However, if the relationship goes south, you may be down a partner and friend — double whammy. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if it is worth the risk. As Ashley Drayton from Georgia State University put it, “Losing a friend if the relationship doesn’t work is my personal fear, however, if the connection is mutual and you both feel like taking that step…the relationship could be amazing and could even turn into marriage.”

2. He or she knows everything about you

If the person you are developing feelings for is a close friend, they most likely know everything about you. While this can be a total pro, it can easily become a con as feelings grow stronger. If he or she knows about all of your past relationships, it can become a topic of jealousy. Relationships should not be about the past, but when dating a close friend, the past can often cause complications moving forward. If you do decide to take the leap, make sure you are focused on a new future together, not the past. Chelsea Hudlow, a University of Central Florida student, metions how, "By knowing each other well we're able to support each other better and anticipate each other's needs, but knowing everything can reduce privacy."

3. It can become weird for your mutual friends

It’s always kind of weird when two people within a friend group start dating. In a way, it can definitely throw off the dynamic. However, if you’re convinced that one of your friends is the right person for you, it can sometimes be worth the risk. Even though it may be weird for them at first, they will quickly get used to it, and it may even encourage others to take the leap from BFF to SO as well.

4. It won’t be the same as before, and never will be again

Before deciding to date a friend, you have to accept the fact that the friendship will not be the same as it was and probably never will be again. When you involve yourself romantically with someone, a different type of friendship will evolve. It’s up to you to decide which you would prefer.

5. You’ll have to replace that friend with someone else you can vent to

You can’t vent to your SO about them, so you’ll have to find a new best friend. And as we all know, making best friends in college can be difficult; it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to new people. However, it’s extremely important to have someone to go to when you’re in need of advice.

When contemplating whether or not to act on feelings for a friend, you must keep all the risks in mind. Although there are surely a lot of pros to dating a friend, there are also many cons. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide if that particular friend is worth losing, because you can never predict how relationships will be. That being said, many successful relationships do blossom from friendships. Just look at Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher!

Scandal is in full swing and the residents of Shondaland could not be happier. Although the show's glory days were predicted to be in its past, Pope and the Grant administration keep surprising us with new plot twists every week. In honor of the show bieng renewed for a seventh season, we simply had to celebrate. We have scoured the depths of the internet to find you the best moments from past seasons of the show.

Sit back, grab a bottle of wine and a bowl of popcorn, and enjoy.

1. When Olivia and Fitz hooked up for the first time in OG Season 1.

2. When Huck and Quinn got hot n’ heavy and we didn’t know if we loved it or were extremely disturbed by it.

Can we be both?

3. When Fitz was shot before his 50th birthday.

Talk about a mid-life crisis.

4. And VP Sally Langston thought she could slither her way into the Oval Office with no interference.

5. When Mellie legit induced labor so Fitz wouldn’t divorce her.

6. When Verna Thornton threatened to tell everyone about Defiance County.

Oh you know, where the Grant campaign rigged the presidential election.

7. And Fitz promptly responded by killing her.

As any logical man would.

8. When Olivia took a quick pause from her “All roads lead to Fitz” lifestyle and got with B613 hottie Jake Ballard.

9. That is, until she found out he was stalking her immediately afterwards.

Ugh. Don't you just hate when that happens?

10. When we found out that Olivia’s dad, Rowan, is the mastermind behind B613.

Her daddy issues are well-deserved.

11. And that her presumed dead mom was actually alive.

Oh, and her Mommy issues.

12. Or when we found out that Fitz was the pilot who shot down a commercial airplane for Operation Remington.

13. When Jake Ballard took command of B613.

14. When Fitz and Mellie’s son, Jerry, was murdered.

15. And then Olivia ran away to “stand in the sun” with Jake.

16. When Olivia was taken hostage and we had absolutely no idea what was going on.

Hair not so on fleek.

17. And then Fitz goes to war with West Angola because Liv’s kidnappers told him to.

His judgement was questionable at best.

18. And in the midst of all of this, Mellie announces that she would be running for president in 2016.

19. Oh and did we mention that Mellie was responsible for Rowan murdering the Jurors of the B613 trial?

20. But it's all ok because Fitz FINALLY chose Olivia.

Nick Viall Proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi with the Same Engagement Ring Robby Picked Out for JoJo

Bachelor Nation's newest couple, Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi, haven’t exactly been the picture-perfect vision of love since their engagement was revealed on the season finale of The Bachelor. From their awkward After the Final Roseappearance to supposed differing ideas about their future with reality TV, it’s safe to say that I’m counting down until Rachel Lindsay starts The Bachelorette and the “happy” couple loses some spotlight.

To add fuel to this mysterious fire, Cosmopolitanreports that the Neil Lane engagement ring Nick picked out for Vanessa is the same one that last year’s Bachelorette runner-up, Robby Hayes, selected for JoJo Fletcher. Of course, JoJo didn't accept the ring, so does that mean this is literally the exact ring Robby picked?

#bachelornation WE DESERVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH! Neil Lane, wtf is going on? #thebachelor

A post shared by Claudia Oshry (@girlwithnojob) on

Bachelor fan Claudia Oshry was the one to notice the similarity, calling out Lane for the insincerity of the coincidence. Let's be real, though—Nick has picked out more than a few Neil Lane rings, so we can't blame the guy for running into this issue.

Lane eventually responded to the controversy, telling People, "I bring six rings and over the years…some are the same, some have changed settings or are re-designed, and some are totally new. The most important thing is for a ring to speak to the particular man and to the woman he is in love with…If that particular ring wasn't meant to find a home with JoJo, but rather spoke to Nick and Vanessa, then that's the way it should be. It's found its home."

Ironically, the engagement ring seems to be one of the few things that's totally fine in Nick and Vanessa's relationship so far. To each his own, right?

Selena Gomez Gets Real About Mental Health, & You Need to Pay Attention

Selena Gomez has had an exciting start to 2017, causing a stir with her new relationship with The Weeknd and hinting that she has started recording new music. Now, in a new Vogue interview, Selena has reminded us why we still love her after all these years: the star isn’t afraid to get real about mental health.

In the piece, Selena opens up about canceling the remainder of her "Revival" tour in 2016 to receive treatment at a psychiatric facility. “My self-esteem was shot,” she reveals. “I was depressed, anxious. I started to have panic attacks right before getting onstage, or right after leaving the stage. Basically I felt I wasn’t good enough, wasn’t capable enough.” Um, who can’t relate to that?

Dealing with things like a growing, older audience and becoming the most followed Instagram user also contributed to Selena’s stress over the past few years. “I wanted to say that life is so stressful, and I get the desire to just escape it,” she explains. “But I wasn’t figuring my own stuff out, so I felt I had no wisdom to share. And so maybe I thought everybody out there was thinking, This is a waste of time.”

Selena shares that there should be no shame in taking time off to figure yourself out, which is always a great reminder no matter who it comes from. Although she executive-produced the new Netflix miniseries 13 Reasons Why, she doesn’t have too much else planned for the immediate future—a relaxing break we think she totally deserves!

"We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient, to be strong and sexy and cool and laid-back, the girl who’s down,” Selena says. “We also need to feel allowed to fall apart."

We couldn’t say it any better. Thanks for always being an advocate for self-care, Selena.
