As part of their new "anti-fascist" campaign, British makeup company Illamasqua is asking Trump supporters not to purchase their products. In their online pledge, written by founder Julian Kynaston, the brand states, "Illamasqua believe in the freedom of expression, equality, and diversity... As such, we will never knowingly sell our products to people who support President Trump’s values." Along with these statements, the brand asks that if its supporters want to buy their products, they must pledge against "[discrimination] against race, colour, nationality, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion."

Here's What You Need to Know About Trump's New National Security Adviser

$

Trump announced Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster as his new national security adviser Monday evening from his Mar-a-Lago resort, The New York Times reports. He spent the weekend there interviewing candidates to replace Michael Flynn, who stepped down after not telling the whole truth about a conversation he had with Russia’s ambassador.

McMaster is a dramatic change from Flynn—he has no ties to Trump, and isn't considered ideological. In fact, his most enduring nickname is “The Iconoclast General,” which comes from his sometimes harsh criticism of both the Vietnam and Iraq wars.

Merriam-Webster defines the word “iconoclast” as either “a person who destroys religious beliefs” or “a person who attacks settled beliefs or institutions.” Taken literally from its Greek roots, the word means “image destroyer.” It’s definitely not surprising that Trump would want someone famous for speaking his mind on his staff, considering that’s the thing Trump himself is most notorious for doing. But McMaster has proven throughout his career that he'll speak out against government and military action that he doesn’t agree with, even when doing so might ruffle feathers, as NPR notes. That makes Trump’s choice a bit confusing. Having an “image destroyer” on staff who might loudly criticize Trump's actions doesn’t jibe with the president’s history of how he’s handled staff members who disagree with him. Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, who was fired via hand-delivered letter after refusing to enforce Trump’s travel ban, is a notable example. So is Craig Deare, who was fired from the National Security Council for criticizing Trump just last week.

Arizona Senator John McCain also highly approves of McMaster as the pick for national security adviser, tweeting that he's "an outstanding choice for nat'l security adviser," and "a man of genuine intellect, character & ability." This is a change from McCain's recent vocal disagreement with Trump on many of his statements and actions. It feels like surprises are the new normal of the Trump administration.

Despite widespread approval of McMaster, it's hard not to wonder what will happen when McMaster disagrees with something Trump says or does. Will he take it in stride because “He’s a man of tremendous talent and tremendous experience,” or will McMaster also have a shorter-than-average stint as the national security adviser for a completely different reason than Flynn? It looks like the we’ll just have to wait and see.

Zoe Kravitz Has the Weirdest First Date Story Ever, & It Involves a Giant Turtle

Think back to the absolute worst first date you ever had. Did you get stood up? Throw up on your date’s shoes? Whatever you experienced has nothing on what Zoe Kravitz has been through.

She recently went on The Tonight Show to promote her new show Big Little Lies, and during her appearance she told the most absurd dating story we’ve ever heard.

Zoe goes on a date with a nice, seemingly normal guy (aren’t they all, ladies?), but then the next day he calls her and asks her to watch his pet turtle, Gary, while he’s away. Like the perfect woman she is, she says yes, and her date drops off a ~30 pound African tortoise~ and a near-empty bag of dog food.

Flash forward to a month later, and this guy still hasn’t picked up his turtle. Eventually he calls her, but it’s not even to pick up his turtle—it’s to ask her on a second date. Zoe does the obvious thing and says yes, but when she goes over to his house, she notices it’s dirty and definitely not a suitable place for Gary to live. What does our queen do? She announces she has to go back home and feed her turtle.

Zoe and her roommates kept Gary for a summer, but now he lives at a turtle sanctuary and is loving his life.

Is her story weird AF or literally the best thing we've ever heard? Probably both. Only in LA do you date a guy and then end up with his turtle.

4 Myths About Your Major You Shouldn't Believe

$

Extracurriculars, SATs and college visits are stressful enough—and now you’re expected to choose a major? Deciding what you want to do in college is a big step. Although it isn’t everything, you’ll be taking the majority of your classes in the subject, so you’ll want to make sure you choose something you’ll enjoy. Have you been wondering how much your major really matters or hearing things you aren’t sure are true? We’ve talked to Michelle Podbelsek, a college counselor, and collegiettes firsthand to bust all the myths about majoring in college. Read on and relax.

1. You have to go into the field you major in

Many people don’t end up working in the field they major in. If you aren’t sure you want to make a career out of your major, that’s okay! And if you know you want to go into a certain field you aren’t majoring in, that’s perfectly okay too!

“If you want to go to medical school, you can have any major—you just need to complete certain courses in undergrad so you are ready to apply,” Podbelsek says. “For law school, you can have any major—it will depend on your GPA and LSAT scores, etc. to be admitted to law school after your bachelor’s degree. Many students may study something more broad—like psychology, economics, English—they will learn analytical thinking and writing skills that can later apply to many different fields.”

If you know you want to work in a specific field like computer science or nursing, you’ll have to be in certain programs to do so. But for a field like journalism, that isn’t the case!

“You don't have to major in journalism to be a journalist!” says Chelsea Schroeder, a freshman at Bowling Green State University. Journalism is most valuable when people from various academic backgrounds are contributing to it, so a variety of majors is actually beneficial!

2. There are “easy” majors

A lot of the time, people think that certain majors are “easier” than others. Every major has a different approach to learning, but that doesn’t make any major invalid or less important.

Helmi Henkin, a sophomore at the University of Alabama, has experienced this stereotype as student pursuing a dual degree in psychology and French. “Most, if not all, of my STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) major friends think that my majors are ‘easy’ and ‘not real majors,’” she says. “Despite the negative stigma surrounding the study of humanities, I don't feel like I have to defend my majors to anyone. I truly believe college is about finding yourself and studying what you love is an essential part of that.”

Helmi is so right! If you’re happy with what you’re majoring in, no one should be able to put that down. Majoring in psychology or journalism isn’t any less difficult than majoring in engineering—it’s just different.

3. It’s not a good idea to switch majors multiple times

Many people go into college without knowing what they want to do in the future, and that’s totally okay! If you try something out and it doesn’t end up being for you, it isn’t the end of the world. There’s nothing wrong with switching majors (even a few times!).

“Many students will switch majors several times,” Podbelsek says. 50-70 percent of students change their major at least once, and the majority of people switch at least three times before they graduate!

"I came into college as a finance and economics double major, but I didn't end up liking it at all," says Allison Zeppuhar, a junior at James Madison University. "Now I'm majoring in computer information systems, and I'm truly enjoying what I'm learning! Changing majors didn't hold me back at all, it only opened doors for more opportunities." As long as you know what courses are required for the major you choose and plan your schedule accordingly, you’re in the clear!

4. Your major will be important to future employers

Oftentimes, employers don’t even look at what you majored in! People will talk down about certain majors like English, saying that it’s impossible to get a job with an English degree. We suggest telling these people to mind their own business!

“People may have a major in one field, and a minor or job or internship experience in another area,” Podbelsek says. “That would also be considered by employers.” Experience is often more valuable than what you major in!

Sydney Brodie, a recent English graduate from the University of Florida, shares her experience with us. “I managed to get a job at a PR firm after graduation, so I think I’m proof that majors don’t always matter and you can in fact get a good job with an English degree,” she says. “For example, in the PR world, going out to do internships and working in the real world is much more valuable than having a PR major. Of course, this probably isn’t true for every industry (like maybe accounting or finance), but in more creative fields (PR, marketing, journalism) employers don’t often discriminate with majors.”

Don’t let people put you down if you aren’t a business or science major! Your major should be a reflection of what you like to do—you’ll get your foot in the door with hard work and relevant experience.

Alana Claro, a junior at Cásper Líbero University, had a similar experience. “In my classroom, with both my colleagues and teachers, it seems as if you are majoring in journalism, the newsroom is the only place you can and must work,” she says. “But, while talking to my co-workers at a PR agency, they usually say that while your major may help you with some abilities, insights and even academic background, it is mostly your choice and how you use every little thing you learn. The office manager even told me that when they are hiring someone, what the person majored in is the least of their concerns.”

Many majors have overlapping classes or relevant experience that can help you in various fields. Don’t choose your major based on what you think future employers will be looking for!

Now that we’ve busted the most common myths about majoring in college, you should feel less stressed and ready to take on your collegiette career. If you end up not liking your major, you can always switch it! If you have no idea what you want to do, go in undecided and see what catches your attention. As we said, majors aren’t everything, and your hard work is what will help you succeed in the end!

BCBG Is Officially Closing All Its Stores & It's Pretty Tragic TBH

BCBG is officially closing its doors. The brand, which has been a staple in malls across the country as long as I can remember, has announced that it is moving exclusively online. While this announcement is definitely a shock, it's not at all unusual.

Since the rise of the internet and online shopping, going into an actual mall to buy your clothes is something many shoppers have just opted out of, including myself. Admittedly, I find shopping online way more convenient and twice as fast. After all, you get to see the store's entire inventory with the click of a button—not to mention you can filter out anything our of your budget or size range.

Thankfully, all is not lost: BCBG will still remain open online. I am going to miss seeing their gorgeous dresses on display, though. And for those of you who prefer brick and mortar, I'm sorry.

With over 67.5k followers on Instagram and almost 6k subscribers on YouTube, Ryan seems to stay humble. Her YouTube bio reads, "I never expected this odd little hobby of mine to grow into such a huge passion, but here I am!" I can't wait to see what else is in store for her!

These Boozy Hazelnut Chocolate Truffles Are the Ultimate Party Food

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Sweet Sundays, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

A few years ago, I largely stopped drinking liquor, but I occasionally make exceptions. Piña coladas during beach vacations are my favorite exception, closely followed by any sort of boozy sweet treat. Last summer’s boozy s’mores milkshakes were at the top of that sweet treat list, until now.

I’m not one to toot my own horn, but I had two separate friends tell me that this was their favorite thing I had made for them. Ever. Keep in mind I don’t pay my friends to say these things, a simple thank you is usually all that I require, so I trust their opinions. And you should too.

Ingredients

  • 11 Ounce bag of white chocolate chips
  • ½ Cup hazelnut half and half
  • 1 Tablespoon Baileys
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 11 Ounce bag of semisweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ Cup chopped hazelnuts

Recipe

  • Place white chocolate chips in medium bowl. Place half and half in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Pour over white chocolate chips and let sit for five minutes before stirring. Stir until all of the chocolate has melted. Mix in Baileys and vanilla extract. Cover and refrigerate until firm, about 3-4 hours.
  • The truffles will be quite soft so it is okay to start rolling them if they don’t feel hard after 3 hours. To make it easier to dip them in dark chocolate, roll them into tablespoon-sized balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 15-30 minutes until firm.

How to Kick Ass on the First Day, According to Ann Shoket

When it comes to badass babes, there is no one more suited for that title than former editor-in-chief of Seventeen magazine, Ann Shoket. In fact, she isn't just a badass babe herself, but she is also teaching other women how to be one in her new book "THE BIG LIFE." According to her website, the badass babes of the world "are a sisterhood of women who are determined to carve their own path, on their own terms" and everyone has the potential to be one. Although her book does not come out until March 14th, Ann Shoket is here to help you get one step closer to kicking ass at your dream job. Read on for the scoop from our chat with Ann.

1. A student gets her dream job. Weeks go by and suddenly the first day is here. What can she do to make the best impression?

Your first impression has started long before you step into the office on the first day. People started putting together an idea of who you are from your first cover letter and resume. Your emails, your stationery, your handshake, your outfit, even how you took off your coat when you came into the interview and who you thanked (or forgot to) on the way out, are all pieces of your first impression. Your first job is nothing like college—the days are longer, everyone is busy, and after the first day or two no one is really thinking about what you need or how to help you do your job, they just need you to do it! So when you come into your job on day one, be friendly, remember people’s names, take notes to help you remember the processes and ask someone to lunch for some off-the-record intel about how the job really works. At the end of the day, stay until someone lets you know that it’s time to wrap up and go—it drives bosses nuts if you ask to clock out at 5pm!

2. What do you recommend that an intern wear on her first day at the office of a fashion magazine?

We’re at an amazing moment of celebrating personal style in the world—and if you’re in the fashion or beauty department, your look should showcase your own vibe. If you’re not, the key is to just look put together—nothing complicated, nothing ripped. And please: no shorts, no flip flops.

3. Are there certain questions to ask right off the bat at work?

How can I help you?

4. What are some no-go’s for the first day?

Don’t endlessly catalog your day on social (unless doing social media is your job!). I once walked into the ladies room and two interns were in there filming videos—and it was not part of their job.

5. What should every intern bring to their first day of work?

A notebook.

6. Is there anything they should prepare in advance?

You’ve been preparing for this moment for years. Don’t add more pressure on yourself. This is the beginning of your Big Life!

We're giving away 50 signed copies of Ann's new book, THE BIG LIFE! Click here to enter.

Milo Yiannopoulos Has Resigned From Breitbart & Lost His Book Deal Following Pedophilia Comments

$

0

Milo Yiannopoulos has resigned from his position as editor-in-chief of ultra-conservative publication Breitbart after a video surfaced of him condoning sexual behavior with boys as young as 13. He's also lost his controversial book deal with Simon & Schuster. While at first, the video only caused Yiannopoulos to lose a speaking engagement at the Conservative Political Action Conference, it looks like that was just the start of a domino effect.

Many conservatives have defended Yiannopoulos through thick and thin. But, The New York Times reports, "endorsing pedophilia, it seemed, was more than they could tolerate."

Simon & Schuster received heavy backlash upon their announcement to publish Yiannopoulos’ book in the first place, due to his history of xenophobic and misogynistic comments. Yiannopoulos is a member of the alt-right conservative movement, and has used his right to free speech to call the Black Lives Matter movement a terrorist organization and compare modern feminism to cancer. Roxane Gay even pulled her book from Simon & Schuster upon finding out about their deal with Yiannopoulos. The company even gave Yiannopoulos an extension on his book so he could write about student protests and riots against his speaking engagements at UC Berkeley.

In a statement, Yiannopoulos said: “The people whose views, concerns and fears I am articulating do not sip white wine and munch canapés in gilded salons. And they will not be defeated by the cocktail set running New York publishing. Nor will I.” But in another statement, regarding his resignation from Breitbart, he said, "I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately."

While the decision is finalized Yiannopoulos’ literary agent, Thomas Flannery Jr., did say they plan to find another publisher.

And Roxane Gay has given another statement, explaining why she won't be going back to Simon & Schuster now that they've dropped Yiannopoulos's book. "My protest stands," she wrote. "Simon & Schuster should have never enabled Milo in the first place. I see what they are willing to tolerate and I stand against all of it....There are some who will spin the cancellation of this book contract as a failure of the freedom of speech but such is not the case. This is yet another example of how we are afforded the freedom of speech but there is no freedom from the consequences of what we say."

6 Reasons You’re Not Doing Well in Your Classes

$
0
0

So let us guess. You did really well in high school and are excited to make your parents proud in college as well… except your grades aren’t reflecting that. Your final grades resemble alphabet soup more than you’d like to admit. What happened? You were a stellar student not too long ago. Have you suddenly become inept? Or are your classes just that much harder? Truthfully, there are a multitude of changes going on in college that can affect your academic performance in college. We’re getting to the bottom of why you may not be doing as well as you’d like, and providing tried and true tips for doing better academically. Your habits from high school aren’t paying off in college, and here’s why.

1. Not going to class

Not going to class seems like a blatantly obvious reason for doing poorly in college, but you’d be surprised at how many people believe going to class is optional. Whether or not your teacher enforces or suggests attendance, it is in your best interest to go to class. And yes, you will one day be tempted by the indulgent thoughts of taking a nap instead of attending only to get notes from a peer later, but ultimately, this cannot be your primary source of education. Copying down notes is not a substitute for actually learning the material, studying and applying the concepts. Missing a class or two because of extraordinary circumstances is quite different than purposefully relying on loyal friends to do your work for you. And if that’s not enough motivation to go to class, remember: college is not free. In some capacity, someone is paying for your education, and it is wise to take that as a sign of privilege and actually reach your full potential.

In addition to hearing the lectures, it is also wise to attend classes to get to know your teacher. Eventually, you will need recommendation/reference letters that will come in handy once job interviews come around. In high school, you’re probably familiar with small classroom settings in which you’d see your teacher every day. They know you by name and you become close with them unintentionally. This is not necessarily the case in college. In college, your success is ultimately up to you. Whether or not you want to get to know a teacher is entirely your decision.

2. Not making time to study

This is definitely a common mistake the first semester in college. Most kids are used to studying the night before an exam and receiving an A. This is close to impossible for college exams (depending on your major, of course). For most exam-based courses, it is in your best interest to begin studying a week or two before the exam. This means re-reading your notes from the class and following along in the (expensive) textbook. This may seem like common knowledge, but you’d be surprised by how many people don’t take this crucial step. When you’re trying to learn chapters of information a couple days before the test, it will seem impossible— because it is. You’re supposed to be learning information over a prolonged period of time, not in a couple hours before the test.

Coordinators at Lehigh University’s Center for Academic Success include “studying as you go, and using your daytime hours to study” as tips for acing exams. Most universities have centers such as this one that are there for your intellectual benefit.

3. Poor study habits

So you may be telling yourself, “I go to all of my classes, I do what’s expected of me, why am I not getting good grades?” And the answer to that question is simply that the quality of your study sessions is poor. Spending hours and hours highlighting the textbook and re-reading notes is only one aspect of successful studying sessions. Once you are accepted into college, it is clear that you can learn, memorize and recall information. Professors are no longer looking for the student that can spend the most time memorizing facts, but the most hardworking student that puts in a valiant effort to analyze information, apply skills and fully grasp material outside of a classroom’s context. This is where the discrepancy is. According to experts at Lehigh University’s Center of Academic Success, “forming study groups and setting hourly study goals” are some of the most time effective ways to study so you’re not spending hours in the library with little work done. You should also be “testing yourself” on the material because it “helps [you] learn to recall information, and gives [you] practice for the real thing.”

Many people either don’t know about these strategies or don’t have the motivation to implement them. However, the countless hours motivated people put into their degree is worth the struggle.

4. Procrastinating

We’ve all been there. Instead of finishing an upcoming assignment, people choose to socialize, catch up on shows and take quizzes on Buzzfeed. Nia, a freshman from Lehigh University says, “With so many fun things to do on campus, it is very easy to avoid doing work. The availability of Netflix makes it that much harder.” Many students can relate to the problem Nia is facing in college. Procrastinating is a dangerous habit that most students are well aware of having. It is the most intelligent student’s kryptonite. You can acknowledge what must be done in order to receive good grades, but not have any motivation to do it. Studying is hard, and we totally agree that it is not nearly the most fun activity you can think of doing. However, education is all about the long term goals. The ability to put off immediate gratification for long-term success is a rare quality in young students today. College is not about being the smartest person on campus, it’s about being the most hardworking and motivated. You’re going to be tempted to do fun, ridiculous and scandalous things because you’re young, and the consequences seem tiny in comparison to your entire academic career. We’re certainly not here to tell you to give up on adventures and happiness, and no one should. But don’t let late nights and partying become your entire life. Think of something you can do today that you would thank yourself for tomorrow. College is the time to figure out how to achieve a social and academic balance, and what works best for you. Your grades are somewhat of an indicator of how much time and effort you may have put into your classes. Think of that next time you start to type Netflix in your search bar.

5. Having too many distractions

You’re finally setting out time in your day to get shit done. You’ve made the right decision to study rather than go out, but now you can’t help but stare at your phone and have major FOMO over all the excitement you’re missing out on. Next thing you know you’re switching between every form of social media and the hours you set aside for schoolwork have just been wasted on liking and commenting on memes. Our advice to you is to turn your phone off and set it in a place it would be a hassle to reach. I know, the horror. If you’re truly that serious about studying and you know you’re the type to get distracted, you’ll thank me later for this one. And if you’re one for loopholes, I’m sure you’ve already thought about the fact that a giant version of a phone sitting in front of your face won’t be much help either. Yes, I’m talking about your laptop, computer or tablet. Often, school assignments are posted online and when you realize that the boring reading passages your English teacher assigned are just a click away from puppy videos, you spend just as much time scrolling away on your Facebook account.

Josh Newton from Rowan University says, “You have to remove yourself from enjoyable activities. When I’m in a more public environment, like a library, it encourages me to do my work instead of when I’m home surrounded by electronics.”

Hooray! We have a solution for you serial scrollers. The first step toward curing your online addiction is to download a Google extension on your browser called StayFocusd. You can find it on the Google Chrome Web Store. It basically allows you to set time limits on certain distracting websites so you can actually get work done. This takes a lot of motivation, but it will be so worth it when you pass that exam with flying colors.

6. Not going the extra mile

If you’ve truly tried all of the steps above in order to get good grades and are still struggling, this is when I’d suggest you go the extra mile concerning your grades. You can ask for help. No one said you’d have to do this all alone. We get it. College is hard and the massive textbooks you’re staring at just seem more and more intimidating the longer you look at them. The final step is to look up your professor’s office hours. Attend those hours, or schedule an appointment to meet individually with your teacher. Address your concerns and bring up any questions you may have asked while you were studying. Another option is to get in touch with your school’s tutoring department. Sometimes having a peer there for you to answer immediate questions is more useful than doing it all alone. This step is all about reaching out and asking for help before it becomes too late.

If you’ve done all these steps, it’s safe to say that you have truly tried your best to be successful in school. And at the end of the day, knowing you tried your best is a much better feeling than regret. Good luck and enjoy your better grades!

17 Questions Every Girl Has About Sex At One Point or Another

It doesn’t matter if you’re a virgin or more experienced in the sheets—everyone has questions about doing the deed. While you’ll never be able to reenact the kind of steamy hookup scenes you see on Gossip Girl or Riverdale, you’ve probably had a few of these thoughts, and more, about getting down and dirty.

1. What’s with the positions having such weird names?

Reverse Cowgirl should be a restaurant that sells healthy cheese fries, not something you do to another human.

2. How do people manage to do it while standing up?

You’d rather be naughty in bed…where you can conveniently fall asleep right after.

3. Is shower sex really as hot as people make it look on TV?

You can barely shower alone without slipping.

4. Is it normal to prefer staying in and masturbating, instead of going out and socializing?

Of course it is. Sexing yourself saves money and doesn’t require you to put on pants. It’s a win-win.

5. Why do people make sex on the first date such a big deal?

If you can share your platter of shrimp tacos, you can share a night in together NBD.

6. How do you muster up the energy and willpower to 69?

The only way you can multi-task is by eating, tweeting and watching The Bachelor simultaneously.

7. Why is anal even a thing?

Who decided that it’d be a fun idea to enter the back door that releases all the crap you eat on a daily basis?

8. What are you supposed to do during oral?

Giggle? Squirm? Spread your legs like a starfish?

9. Who decided it was sexy to bite and twist nipples?

Nothing against BDSM, but that is 50 shades of way too painful.

10. If the bed doesn’t squeak, does that mean you aren’t thrusting hard enough?

You’re not in good enough shape for this!

11. Should you alternate between kissing and humping, or do it at the same time?

This will get super sweaty instead of super sexy, real fast.

12. What’s the normal volume for moaning?

Last time you screamed so loud, your roommates thought you were waxing your bikini line.

13. How are you supposed to easily transition into new positions?

If you move too fast, you might end up farting or something.

14. Are you supposed to clean yourself afterwards?

You have boxes of tissues reserved to crying, and…well, you know.

15. Is it normal to fantasize about sex during the most random, inappropriate times?

Getting milk at the grocery store turns into imagining a rendezvous on top of a stack of Bounty towels.

16. How do you manage a threesome?

You can't even be bothered to share your food with people, much less your SO with someone else.

17. What’s with the obsession over sexy lingerie, if you’re just going to end up naked?

It’s getting hot in here! So keep off all your clothes!

Texas Could Soon Have Some of the Strictest Campus Rape Laws in the Country

Following the highly-publicized sexual assault scandal at Baylor University, Texas is beginning to take action in order to seriously step up state campus rape laws.

According to Dallas News, Democratic State Senator (and Baylor alum) Kirk Watson filed five bills on Tuesday that are all designed to encourage the reporting of sexual violence and harassment.

If passed, the bills would require schools to create anonymous online reporting tools that could be used by victims and witnesses while preventing students from being punished for underage drinking or breaking campus rules if they are reporting. While many schools in Texas already have some form of "affirmative consent" laws that require students to obtain verbal consent from a partner, the bills would also require every school in the state to have affirmative consent laws in place.

Additionally, the bills would require any school employee and campus leader to report incidents of sexual assault within 24 hours, or be charged with a misdemeanor. However, Dallas News reports that there is some debate within the state senate about whether or not this specific part of the bills is constitutional.

The aggressive legislation is a reaction to a sexual assault scandal at Baylor University in Texas in which several Baylor football players were accused of sexual assault, and a lawsuit claimed that 31 of the university's football players had committed 52 or more acts of rape in three years. Many of the victims claimed they were bullied into not reporting the incidents.

However, Texas lawmakers are also noting the laws are bigger than simply what happened at Baylor.

"While Baylor has highlighted this issue and caused a focus, this isn’t just about Baylor," Watson told Dallas News. "We need a new culture in higher education."

Drake Just Gave Rihanna the Cutest Birthday Shoutout

Apparently, Drake and Jennifer Lopez are over, and sorry but we're not even sorry because we all know Drake belongs with Rihanna - and his adorable birthday shoutout to her at his recent concert is proof.

Us Weekly reports that during his concert in Dublin, Ireland on Monday night as part of his Boy Meets World tour, Drake threw a special birthday shoutout his ex-girlfriend's way for her 29th.

"It's somebody's birthday today - somebody I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect for," he told the audience. "So, instead of singing 'Happy Birthday,' we gon' set it off just like this. Run it!"

He then followed up with a mash-up of he and Rihanna's collaborations together, including "Work,""Take Care," and "Too Good." Naturally the crowd freaked out - and so did we since our hopes that AubRih aren't completely over are now officially renewed.

ICYMI, the on-again off-again almost-couple officially called it quits back in October - but considering the amount of collaborations the duo has worked on together, and their matching tattoos, things were clearly serious. Does Drake's recent breakup mean Aubrih could be back? Seriously, what does this mean? In any case, birthday #goals, am I right?

Emma Watson is one celebrity who we can always count on to use her fame for good, whether she's fighting for gender equality or encouraging women to vote. So it's pretty much no surprise that Emma also had the genius idea of using her Beauty and the Beast press tour to promote sustainable fashion.

According to Cosmopolitan, Emma has started a new Instagram account, @the_press_tour, which she'll be using to document her sustainable fashion choices throughout her press tour for the upcoming movie - and hopefully beyond that too!

Take the killer dress she rocked at the Beauty and the Beast photocall on Sunday night in Paris: the asymmetrical blue Louis Vuitton dress was custom-made from 100 percent recycled polyester, and all "suede" and "leather" details on the piece were made from eco-friendly alternatives.

Her outfit for the film's first public screening in Paris followed suit: the custom Oscar de la Renta look was made from organic silk and wool. On the account, Emma also highlights her love for Stella McCartney, the first luxury designer to commit to using only faux skin, leather, feathers and fur.

10 Things College Rankings Won't Tell You

$

When looking online for information about colleges, one of the most referenced websites is the U.S. News & World Report. While it is a great website for getting information about applying and general statistics, don’t be dismayed by what you see—just because a school ranks a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the right school for you. There’s more to it than numbers when it comes to picking the right college.

U.S. News has its own methodology for ranking schools. It uses a formula to measure “quantitative” aspects of academics, as determined by educational experts. Once it categorizes the types of school (i.e. Regional or National), it ranks them based on “15 different indicators of academic excellence.” You’re probably thinking that sounds pretty mathematical and confusing—and we agree. Plus, some of the indicators aren’t just based on academic achievement and graduation retention, but also things like “high school counselor rating scores” and “peer assessment.”

Plus, for as advanced as the U.S. News ratings may seem to be, they just simply cannot take into account the little things that make a college so special and the measurements used have the potential to become biased. The statistics might be a good starting point, but if you really want your dream school, you’ll have to look beyond whatever place it ends up on the list. So here are ten things to keep in mind out for when skimming the latest U.S. News rating.

1. They don’t take campus size and surrounding area into account

Although there are maps that show where each school is located, actually seeing the location is something you can’t get from a website. Some people want more secluded schools and others want campuses in big cities or small cities.

Let’s be honest, looking at a map and actually walking the route that you’ll have to take to an 8 a.m. are two very different things. Big schools like University of Pennsylvania require buses to get around campus, but it’s still considered a terrific school with a high ranking. If that doesn’t sound like something you’d enjoy, then it probably isn’t the school for you. Size preference isn’t something the fancy “quantitative formula” takes into account.

Additionally, until you visit the school, it’s hard to get a feel for its surrounding area. The rankings aren’t based on how college-friendly the area is, the restaurant scene, or the fun off-campus activities you can do. Trust us, the older you get the more you’ll want to branch off campus. You have to make sure it’s an area you’ll like.

2. They don’t factor in athletics

For some people, college sports are the be-all-end-all. Whether it’s football, basketball or hockey, there’s no denying that sports are a huge part of many college experiences. Although there are tons of great college sports teams, there’s a huge difference between an SEC football team and a D3 football team. But although something like that might be important to you, it’s not a huge factor in determining the “top schools.” For example, Harvard and Yale don’t have D1 sports teams, but they’re ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively on U.S. News. Sports can be a great way to feel school spirit, plus the tailgates that come along with them are pretty fun. You can’t get that from a rating!

3. They use selectivity as a measurement

Selectivity concerns how many students a university rejects in the admissions process. In USNR rankings, schools with higher selectivity are also ranked higher. The problem with this method is that certain schools may receive a lot of applications simply because they are well-known, like Ivy League colleges. That means that they also get to reject more students and inevitably end up with a higher ranking. By doing this, the more “prestigious” colleges have a greater chance of ranking high.

4. They don’t take into account what classes you’ll end up taking

You’ll usually find a list of the most frequent majors for each school, but that doesn’t take all of the classes into account. Some schools offer more classes than others, or classes that are more interesting to you specifically. Unless you have a very specific major or a major that is the most prevalent at a school, you might need to look beyond whatever rating a school received.

If a liberal arts school is ranked lower than a school that is more business focused, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad choice. In fact, it might rank lower for reasons totally unrelated to your major. Choose a school that will have the right courses for your interest. Check out a school’s website for a full list of majors, requirements and courses so you know exactly what your options are.

5. Spending money is heavily factored

This measurement favors the Ivy League and private institutions heavily because it basically just gives a higher rating to schools that spend more money. Plus, the amount of money doesn’t even have to go towards academics.

6. The social scene isn't considered

No matter how highly ranked a school is, there is simply no way to take into account what the nightlife is like. Sure, it may provide students’ opinions on it, but that doesn’t mean you’ll actually like it. Some schools are bigger party schools, some have a larger Greek life, and others are bar schools.

If you have a preference for a certain social scene, then the rating isn’t enough to go off of. The best way to ensure you’re picking the right social environment is to contact someone who goes to the school and ask them, or visit the school yourself. Some of the highest ranked schools have a pretty dismal social scene, so if that’s important to you, then you can’t just look at the numbers

7. They don’t take post-graduation success into consideration

So you know how the whole point of college is to end up with a career at the end? Well the USNR rankings don’t necessarily think that’s an important aspect to keep in mind. Their quantitative rating doesn’t factor in post-grad job rates or quality of education. Isn’t that the whole point though?

8. "Peer assessment" is part of the rating process

Although peer assessment may sound like something you’d want to include, it isn’t what you think it is. Instead of taking student commentary and opinion into account, peer review is actually referencing the reputation of a university. This measurement, which determines 22.5-25 percent of a university’s ranking, means that more renowned schools have the upper hand. Plus, the so-called “peer reviews” aren’t even from college students, they’re actually determined by college professors, provosts, admission directors and high school counselors.

9. Living arrangements aren't included

Most often, rankings will tell you what type of living arrangement is most popular at a college. Whether it is freshmen-only on campus, four years of on-campus living, or all off-campus housing, living situations are a crucial part of the college experience.

Plus, you don’t know what the dorms look like, or what the off-campus housing options are like. Or, what if you don’t want to live off campus? Remember, you’ll be living there, so it’s pretty important that you’ll actually enjoy wherever you end up. Classes only take up so many hours of the day, and chances are you’ll want a welcoming place to go home to.

10. Extracurricular activities aren't factored in

One of the best things about college is the tons, and tons—and tons—of extra-curricular activities you have the option of joining. College is a great time to get involved in something that you love, or even gain some leadership experience. While most schools have plenty of options when it comes to extracurricular activities, not all of them will have everything you’re looking for. In fact, although Princeton is ranked No. 1 on US News’  Top Colleges of 2017, there is absolutely zero Greek life on campus. If that’s something you want during your college career, then it’s a huge turn off—even though it’s the top school!

No matter what the rankings of a given college are, it’s impossible to decide the next four years of your life based off of a number. Everyone has different preferences and ideals when it comes to college, so focus on your own. It’s okay to use websites like U.S. News to get a general idea of what a school is like, but don’t stop there. Check out other websites, like the Princeton Review, which uses surveys collected from actual college students, and do some of your own research too! Visit schools, talk to students and look at school websites. When you find the right one it will be because it’s right for you.
