Bella Hadid Went Pants-Less All Weekend

What do you and Bella Hadid have in common? You both hate wearing pants. But while you’re confined to the privacy of your own bedroom when you want to ditch your bottoms, Hadid is able to comfortably rock the look at work… and by “work” we mean her very successful modeling career.

Over the weekend, Bella posted three photos of herself, promoting her latest gigs—editorials for LOVEmagazine and Nike. I'm sure I'm not the only ones who noticed the similarities between all of the hot pics… she’s not wearing pants in any of them!

These are all shots from Bella's upcoming LOVE magazine shoot; the magazine is notorious for having models pose in next-to-nothing, and Bella’s lingerie shoot is no exception.

The frilly lingerie LOVE shoot gives us romantic V-Day vibes, while the Nike shoot gives us sporty-chic ones; however they undoubtedly have two major things in common: 1) Bella looks amazing in both and 2) she’s comfy and pants-free.

Beauty Bakerie Announces ~Sweet~ Collab with Olympic Gold-Medalist Gabby Douglas

If you thought you wouldn't see three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas until the next Olympic games, you were so wrong! This gymnastics superstar is partnering with the cruelty-free makeup brand Beauty Bakerie, and will be releasing a set of five self-designed lip shades in March 2017 that will cost $80 for the lot. Now, the idea of wearing a gold medalist's very own lip creation is already a dream come true, but the fact that this collab is with Beauty Bakerie makes it even better! If you're not fortunate enough to be familiar with the brand, they have developed long-lasting, highly pigmented formulas with the most creative names ever. Each of their products fall under the "bakerie" theme and sport names like Lip Whip ($20), GELato eye liner ($16) and EyesCream eyeshadows ($16). The various shades even follow suit with incredibly tasty names that reference all your favorite sweets.

Gabby's hard work and determination have been evident through her Olympic triumphs, which helps her align with Beauty Bakerie and their "Better, Not Bitter" mantra. "Being Better Not Bitter is very similar to my personal motto, ‘Hard days are the best because that's when champions are made," Gabby said in a press release. "It's easy to allow negativity or hard circumstances to keep you from chasing your dreams. However, it is very important that you always stay positive and surround yourself with others who share the same mindset."

The exact launch date will be released in the company's Neopolitan Newsletter (seriously, these names are too cute!) in mid-March, but hopefully they'll tease some of the shades beforehand! I can't wait to see what Gabby comes up with!

The Shy Girl’s Guide to Speaking Up at Work

0
0

You’re a driven, goal-oriented and passionate collegiette, and you’ve just landed your first real job. That’s a major accomplishment in and of itself, so give yourself a pat on the back. You walk through the door in a crisp pantsuit with flawless makeup, feeling on top of the world. With a bright smile, you greet your boss and shake hands, ready to start the day – that is, until you notice the curious eyes of your coworkers burning holes into your back. Unfortunately, as the day goes on, the stress of workplace communication really starts to kick in – especially since you’re quite fresh-faced and a little timid.

Introverted people, while having provided some of the most intellectually astounding theories in human history, often have difficulty communicating their ideas. That difficulty is exacerbated by the highly collaborative environment of the workplace. Fortunately, for all the shy collegiettes out there, we’ve talked with experts and students on college campuses with the same anxieties as you to create your go-to guide for workplace interactions.

1. Find people who make you feel comfortable

When you start working, it’s easy to feel like any conversation makes you uncomfortable, especially when you have a soft-spoken personality. As you find your way around the workplace, you’ll realize which of your co-workers you can relate to most. Maybe you’re binging the same Netflix shows, or they’ve played the piano for ten years just like you. Latch on to those people and really get to know them. If you have people you trust and can talk normally with in the workplace, you’ll begin to feel much more comfortable in general. Work friends definitely would be willing to help you adapt to the environment and enjoy your time at work.

Ashley Drayton, who graduated from Georgia State University in 2015, encourages you to build genuine relationships at work. “As a quiet girl, it's hard to build up the courage to express your opinions at work, but I've learned it's helpful to go to someone you feel comfortable speaking with first,” she advises. “Since I've built genuine relationships with the management team, my introvert personality isn't as bad at work anymore. If there was ever a problem or the managers needed opinions, they are open to hearing what I have to say and trust my opinion because of our work relationship and my work ethic.”

Apart from finding friends that make you comfortable, check if your company offers any mentoring programs. Susan P. Joyce, an online job search expert and owner of job-hunt.org, encourages you to find a mentor. “Finding a mentor and building a solid relationship with them is a great way to grow communication skills,” she says. “After time, mentors become a safe place where you can disclose information and get advice on your opinion before sharing it with others.”

Remember, your job is supposed to be an enriching experience! Connect with people that will help further your career goals.

2. Ask questions

The easiest way to become an active participant at a collaborative event is to simply ask a question. A question isn’t an intimidating form of communication, as it relies less on original content but rather the words of the speaker at the event. If you have any doubts, always clarify them with a question. It allows you to engage in the discussion and alert others in the room that you aren’t afraid to contribute – perhaps giving you an opening to further voice your opinion later in the meeting.

Especially when you first join the workplace, ask questions soon and often. Simple questions like “how do I log on to the company website?” or “could you explain that project in greater detail?” can open up avenues of discussion for you to ultimately benefit from. If it’s difficult for you to ask a question, work on asking questions to people you feel comfortable with first. Then, when you feel better accustomed, start asking questions to your superiors.

3. Practice and prepare

When you have to present on a topic at a meeting or simply want to speak about something with your co-workers, prepare in advance. It’s an extra step that extroverts might not have to do, but it actually organizes your thoughts and keeps your mind sharp. You won’t blank on the spot and you’ll be less nervous, too. Practice with your SO, friend or family member to get accustomed to speaking about the topic. You can even look at plans for a meeting beforehand and formulate potential questions or comments you could add to the discussion.

Joyce lets you know how to prepare for both a planned meeting and spontaneous discussions. “Being prepared is an introvert's friend. If you know you’re going into a group meeting with many extroverted personalities, write down a few bullet points you want to discuss. Make a goal for yourself to voice at least one or two of those thoughts before leaving the meeting,” she says. “When you’re in a spontaneous situation, it becomes more of an internal process. Take a moment to collect your thoughts, breathe, and listen for a moment to jump in when you’re most comfortable.”

Destinye Barnes-Hall, a junior at the University of Texas at San Antonio, agrees that preparation is helpful. “I myself am an introvert and my biggest piece of advice is to prepare what you want to say when you speak to your boss or your peers. Have it ready, so you aren't stumbling for words and about to break into hives,” she says. “Take a deep breath because you can do this!” If you still feel nervous, don’t be afraid to bring a few notes with you – it’s okay to read off a notepad at a meeting.

4. Be a good listener

As an introverted person, talking may not be your strong point. However, you can take pride in your listening skills. In today’s world, most people’s “listening” consists of waiting for their turn to talk and an occasional glance at their phone. You, on the other hand, really dig into a speaker’s words and actually pay attention, offering eye contact and gestures – a simple and effective skill that’s become something of a lost art.

Joyce acknowledges that listening skills give quiet personalities a step-up in the workplace. “Introverts may be quiet and shy, but this gives them the ability to listen intently,” she says. “Sometimes extroverts end up talking too much or talking over one another. However, introverts are able to listen and better understand goals, expectations, what’s happening in the office that could get them to the next level, or simply effectively listen to a client’s needs.”

That’s a great advantage you have as an introvert, and don’t be afraid to flaunt it. Whenever you have a conversation, don’t feel obligated to jut in all the time. Let the other person talk, and he or she will appreciate you for your attentiveness. It’s less stressful for you and leaves a great impression on your co-worker, which will in turn improve your work performance.

Katy Palmer, a graduate of Loyola Marymount University, agrees on the quiet power of listening. “I show up to the office, meeting, network event, job review and commit to reacting in real time,” she says. “If I’m listening and reacting, I won’t be stuck worrying about what to say next. Not only will I show off my true personality when chatting, but I’ll stand out by simply being myself.”

5. Don’t be afraid to innovate

Many companies stagnate after long periods of no change. As a new worker with a young, ambitious mindset, suggest ways to better the system. With a shy personality, it can be difficult to act against the status quo, but it’s really not as hard as you think. You can innovate in small ways that exemplify your talents. For example, if you have web design experience, tell someone that you’d like to update the company website, as you think it could be more accessible for customers. It doesn’t have to be a whole speech and doesn’t even have to be in front of all of your co-workers. If public speaking makes you nervous and you feel more comfortable speaking one-on-one, pull someone aside and share your ideas.

Alicia Nagla, a senior at the University of Denver, tells her success story that she accomplished by speaking up. “I had always been extremely introverted and had a really hard time making myself heard,” she says. “I first pushed myself to start speaking up with my direct supervisor and took baby steps to talking to bigger groups of people. Before I knew it, I was addressing a staff of 50+ employees at once and running meetings every week.” Alicia did it, and so can you.

Even if you’re stuck fetching coffee or making copies most of the day, you can still be bold and offer new ideas. That’s how you make a difference in the company and show that you’re not the average worker. You know that your ideas are valuable – you just have to prove that to your team.

6. Embrace conflict

With a shy personality, you probably don’t like confrontation much. In fact, it seems really scary. However, disagreements in the workplace can actually enhance productivity by generating new viewpoints and finding the best way to handle a problem. If you meekly sit back and don’t voice your opinion when you disagree with the majority, you might miss a major opportunity to increase productivity and get a jump-start on your career. Still, despite all the benefits, it’s hard to get through confrontation as a quiet person.

Joyce gives you a quick solution. “Conflict in the workplace is uncomfortable for most people, but to introverts, it feels painful,” she says. “While your first line of defense may be to avoid the situation until it goes away, the best thing to do is get a third party involved. Managers will act as mediators within the conflicted group. This way, the heavy weight of attention and uncomfortable tension isn’t all on your shoulders."

When conflict comes your way, don’t back off. Get a manager to help mediate tension and encourage discussion. Use conflict to your team’s advantage and create a sounding board for your ideas. You might just hit on exactly what the company is looking for – and if not, you’ll still be able to receive some great feedback.

7. Don’t force yourself to be extroverted

While it’s great to talk with your co-workers and build essential relationships, you don’t have to force yourself to be as outgoing as possible. As a naturally shy or anxious person, planning too many events and saying ‘yes’ to too many weekend plans will eventually tire you out. You need time to recharge – make that time a priority for you.

Your team needs extroverts, but it needs people like you as well. You can work diligently and independently without having to rely on constant back-and-forth with others. That is a skill in and of itself, and integral to your company’s success. Remember that and take pride in your unique skill set, making sure to get your alone time to work successfully.

Monica Perez, a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University, notes that working independently helps your co-workers take you seriously. “You shouldn’t be scared of talking to people at a higher level than you. If you’re not someone who speaks up much, complains, or ask for things then they will see you as responsible and independent. When the time comes for you to speak up, they will definitely take you seriously.”

8. Be confident

Don’t forget that you were chosen for your position. You didn’t just waltz in, but were handpicked from what was most likely a long list of candidates. Your boss interviewed you and thought you would genuinely add something to his or her team – whether it was creativity, a new perspective, or otherwise. Keep that in mind as you interact with co-workers. You are there for a reason, and your personal contributions matter. Be confident, and let that confidence radiate from you. Your co-workers will notice and treat you with respect.

You are a strong woman, and you deserve to have your voice heard – regardless of your position in the workplace. Never forget to speak up when you feel you could contribute to a discussion. Ramisa Chowdhury, a sophomore at Palm Beach State College, agrees that speaking up is important in the workplace. “Most employers actually appreciate it if you speak up. They see it as taking initiative and take you more seriously. Especially if you work hard, they like you more. My managers love me and I love them – it makes our professional relationship a lot easier because I know I can go to them if I have any problems.”

It’s a win-win scenario – you improve both your work performance and relationships, while taking initiative and getting your valuable ideas out there. Good luck, collegiettes! Don’t let a little shyness keep you from excelling. Use it to your advantage and show the world that you can make a difference no matter where you work.

Obama Went Kitesurfing and the Internet is Freaking Out Over the Photos

While the post-inauguration days have been, well, ~interesting~ for lack of a better word, we're glad that at least someone is enjoying the post-Obama presidency world - even if that person is the retired POTUS himself. (And seriously, the man deserves it.)

Obama has been spending his time away from Washington by relaxing under the sun in the British Virgin Islands alongside Michelle and billionaire Richard Branson - and from what we can tell, his daily activities have consisted of catching up on the watersports he missed out on during his eight years in office and goofing around with Branson. While according to Branson's blog post, there was still some serious security involved, it looks like Obama's life has already relaxed and lightened up considerably.

There's even video evidence of a kitesurfing competition between the two:

Of course, the Internet also had plenty to say about it. Because, let's be honest, his smile in all of these photos basically says it all - he is truly living his best life.

Is anyone else totally freaked out by seeing the former president in anything other than a suit and tie?

Meanwhile, this tweet is the ultimate truth:

Even though he's no longer our POTUS, we're *sniff* happy he's happy.

Lena Dunham Blames Donald Trump-Induced Stress for Her Weight Loss

If the first few weeks of the Donald Trump presidency has been stressing you out, you're not alone. On a recent appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show, Lena Dunham explained the reason for her sudden weight loss - and apparently, it's had everything to do with her stress about what's been in the news lately.

"Donald Trump became president and I stopped being able to eat food," she said "Everyone's been asking like, 'What have you been doing?' And I'm like, 'Try soul-crushing pain and devastation and hopelessness and you, too, will lose weight."

While Dunham was clearly half-joking, she later posted an Instagram about what her typical daily eating habits looked like under the Trump presidency, and it's definitely not a diet anyone should be aspiring to considering it involves nothing but green tea, a croissant and dizziness before 1 p.m.

All joking aside, Lena's "Trump diet" is an important reminder of how self-care is more necessary than ever. We're all for staying woke and paying attention to what's going on - but when it starts affecting your mental health or eating habits, it's time to unplug for awhile.

I Went To Sleepaway Camp For The First Time in My 20s

Would you go back to sleepaway camp if you could? Would you take the opportunity to go for the first time if you missed out as a kid? #FOMO

Well whether you answered yes to any of the above, or no, –  go for it. I went to sleepaway camp for the first time ever as an adult, and am extremely confident that you can too. I went through Camp No Counselors, whas is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a camp for adults, with no counselors. Color war, talent show, campfires, s’mores – it was all there. There were ‘non-counselor’ staff members, but they became my friends and are some of the coolest people I've ever met.

Day 1: The first impression

When my roommate first asked if I would go to adult summer camp with her, I was instantly hesitant. Sleeping in a cabin and sleeping among critters — no thanks.  We started local at the Boston camp, which took place in nearby Maine. My roommate and I hopped on the provided buses for both. We were instantly greeted by A BONFIRE WITH S'MORES, friendly non-counselors, and zany fellow campers. My first impression ended up being a clean cabin (seriously, not one spider attack for me #blessed) and the sense that this was going to be great. Plus, our cabins had fellow color war team members — instant #squadgoals.

We had to write answers to questions on our name tags every day — my first one being 'who is your doppleganger?'— that made everyone surprisingly easy to remember. I was Game of Thrones favorite, Daenerys / Mother of Dragons, of course. It was clear from day one that everyone was there to have a good time – and there was every type of camper (adventurers, sleep-on-a-hammock-all-day’ers, the crafty ones, etc).

The first impression was what immediately sold me. It sold me so well that I went back a second (Nashville) for a birthday weekend. And I’m pre-registered for a third (Austin) . . . so yes, I’ve definitely caught the Bug JuiceFYI it's definitely an adult summer camp - 21+ (hint: graduation present) and fellow campers ages 21-35+ is the norm.

Day 2: Activities for days - no Netflix

My roommate and I participated in the ‘friendship walk" on the first day of each camp, filled with funny questions and a tour of the campsite got to experience a giant water blob that I’ve had on my bucket list since Disney's Heavyweights, and so much more. So did I have fun? Seriously, there was everything available from zipling to rock climbing, to tubing, and more. There's also arts & crafts and open swim if you're more #chill.

. . . add in the themed parties

The  ~ themed parties ~ were also great opportunities to get to know people. The themes I got to enjoy across my camps were Superhero + Woodstock (Boston) and Jurassic Party + Space Jam (Nashville). Everyone was notified way in advanced. I'm definitely committed to thinking more outside the box next time . . . I was NOT the only Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century at the Space Jam.

Day 3: COLOR WAR

Color war is extremely serious, and each day leading up had mini challenges to give your team a head start. We all got t-shirts in our team color, too. Color war day at both camps were some of the most high-energy days I've ever experienced. Color war days included:

  • A giant apache relay race (I did human pyramid at both camps - highly recommend)
  • A lip-sync battle - I joined the Spice Girls routine in Boston, and then won first place as Gwen Stefani in Nashville
  • A flag-design contest
  • Side-sport tournaments
  • . . . and then the giant apache relay race which ended with a giant game of 'flip and slip. That's right, everyone on the team had to go down the giant slip 'n slide and flip a cup on a giant 'flip cup' table.

The prize for winning was a champagne shower: spoiler alert.

The after-thoughts:

I am now part of a family. I’m constantly staying in touch with those that I met, and have a ton of inside jokes and memories only CNC campers can understand.  Mooses and alpacas will never be the same (you’ll have to go to camp to figure that one out!). I also realized that I can check places off my bucket list with these trips — I took the time to explore Nashville before the second camp, and plan to do the same for Austin.

P.S. I’m in no relation to Non-Counselor + Director of Community Engagement, Dave Kushner– that we know of yet! Thanks CNC for giving me the best big brother I never had.

Kylie Jenner is Being Accused of Repackaging Old Lip Colors for Her Holiday Collection

While Kylie can seemingly do no wrong with her lusted-after Kylie Cosmetics line (The lip kits! The merch!), she might have hit a sore spot with a few fans, who have taken to social media to point out some possibly sketchy business practices on Kylie's part.

Cosmopolitan reports that according to the swatches posted by a few Twitter users, the shade "Blitzen" from Kylie's Holiday Collection looks a little too close to the lip kit shade "Spice." The reason they're not so happy about it? "Blitzen" was sold as part of a limited edition set of mini lipsticks that sold for $36 - while "Spice" is sold with a matching lip liner for only $29.

The photos are pretty damning:

Hmm. While we could totally understand having the option to buy a full-sized lip kit versus the option to buy a bunch of mini ones for a slightly higher price (who doesn't love options?), we think it's a little odd that Kylie wasn't just upfront about it and instead gave basically the same shade two different names - one of which was supposed to be "limited edition."

Hillary Clinton's First Post-Inauguration Video Statement is EVERYTHING

If the last few post-inauguration weeks have been a very real struggle for you, you're going to want to watch Hillary Clinton's latest video statement for a major pick-me-up.

In an inspiring video she created for the 2017 Makers Conference (which focuses on female empowerment), Clinton pointed out the fact that the theme of this year's conference, which is "Be Bold," is more important than ever given the current political climate.

"Now more than ever, we need to focus on the theme of this year's conference, which is 'Be Bold,'" she said. "We need strong women to step up and speak out. We need you to dare greatly and lead boldly. So please, set an example for every women and girl out there who's worried about what the future holds, and wonders whether our rights, opportunities, and values will endure."

The former presidential candidate also took the opportunity to reaffirm her support for everything women had accomplished through organizing the Women's March, which took place across the country and world on January 21.

Clinton ended the message by restating what has become one of her most iconic quotes after the events of the past few months - reminding us that, despite everything happening right now, who still run the world? Girls.

"As I've said before, and I'll say again, never doubt you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and every opportunity in the world."

Watch Clinton's entire message here.

4 Ways to Tour a College Without Stepping Foot on Campus

0
0

As you prepare for one of the most important choices of your life, there are many ways you can make a well-prepared decision. Selecting the right college involves many nights of pros and cons lists, overseeing tuition costs and trying on school colors to see which ones you like best.

According to some, one of the best ways to reach this decision is by visiting the campus of the school you might attend during the fall. Sadly, sometimes you are unable to visit the three or four (or even more) schools you applied to. There are various reasons why you’re unable to go visit that dream campus, maybe your parents might not seem keen on the idea of driving two or more hours, they’re probably worried you’ll miss school, that money you saved up from babysitting still can’t buy you plane tickets or you just can’t take time away from school to make that trip.

Don’t fret –– there are numerous ways you can explore your prospective college without actually stepping a foot on campus.

1. Browse the school’s website

This one sounds very cliché but it is the first step you should take to see if you would like the campus or not. The photos taken for your desired school’s website are top-notch and will show all the splendid things your campus offers. Explore the tab for prospective students, search for sports event photos and even visit any Twitter or Facebook page the university may have. When you’re looking through their website, notice any links to student blogs about the campus or extracurricular clubs that might also have Social Networks. That way, you can read up about what’s going on at campus from their perspectives.

Did you know that Instagram is also your best friend? Most campuses have their own hashtags that students use to upload photos. Another way to get to know that campus is through the eyes of someone who’s actually going there and Insta is the best place to do that! Write #ThatSchoolsAcronym and I’m pretty sure you’ll be blown away with the photography and/or videos you’ll find.

2. Reach out to alumni

An amazing thing that most websites have is an Alumni tab, and if you get really lucky, you might even find testimonials. Before choosing the right university, you should always know what past students think about their campus, the academics and the student life at that school. It’s important to contact those that have been in the same place as you just a couple years ago. “Before actually going to campus, I found a girl on Twitter that majored in what I wanted to and I started talking to her on there. She was extremely nice and even offered some advice on how to get classes and such!” – Madelyn, UPR. There are a lot of ways to get in touch with an alumni. Just remember to be calm, cool, collected and a professional. That is why, the top recommendations are always LinkedIn or writing them an e-mail. As long as you treat them with respect, any of them will be happy to help!

3. Find out from the inside

Sometimes, school websites and alumni are going to talk amazingly about campus. Want to know the inside scoop? There’s an amazing way to do so! School blogs and newspapers are quite truthful about the issues going on around campus. Most universities have newspapers and student council pages that are constantly sharing what scholars are involved in. If that campus has a Her Campus chapter, even better! Magazines such as Her Campus or newspapers such as Boston University’s, Penn State’s or The Michigan Daily will give you a perspective on what goes on at the dorms, academically and other events (such as sports, lifestyle and/or social) on campus. What better way to learn than to read it from the own students?

4. Take advantage of Google Maps

Did you know that this is your best friend? If not, get acquainted! Google Maps will not only show you how to get to campus (from the airport, your house, grandma’s house or any other place) but it can actually show you places nearby. It’s important to know where the nearest Target or Walmart is, if your favorite restaurant is walking distance, if there is a mall nearby, etc.

By using Street View you can get to know how things will look if you decide to go to that campus. Knowing these things and being able to peruse the neighborhood you are considering is extremely important to help come to your decision. Why? Since you’re going to live there for at least four years you have to know whether your neighborhood or college town is safe or not. That’s an important thing to acknowledge, especially to keep your family and friends at ease.

Before planning a trip to visit a college campus, save your time (and money) by maximizing your computer use. Sit down one day and do all the research you feel you might need to reach your decision. There's no rush, but you might want to get a head start before admissions come rolling by. Good luck!

Collegiettes, try out some nail art and show us the results! We'd love to see which you rocked and how you made the designs your own.

Obama Went Kitesurfing & the Internet is Freaking Out Over the Photos

Elizabeth Warren Was Silenced For Quoting A Coretta Scott King Letter on the Senate Floor

In 1986, Coretta Scott King wrote a letter in opposition to then-U.S. attorney Jeff Sessions.

King’s historic three decade-old letter, which helped prevent Sessions from becoming a federal judge, was invoked again by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren on Tuesday night. During the Senate debate over Sessions’ nomination to attorney general, Warren read, “Mr. Sessions has used the awesome power of his office to chill the free exercise of the vote by black citizens.”

She also quoted the late senator Edward M. Kennedy’s 1986 remark about Sessions: “He is, I believe, a disgrace to the Justice Department and he should withdraw his nomination and resign his position."

Apparently, this was too much for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and senate Republicans. According to the Washington Post, they pointed to a rarely used rule to formally silence Warren and prevent her from participating in the rest of the Sessions debate.

“The Senator has impugned the motives and conduct of our conduct of our colleague from Alabama,” McConnell said. The Senate then voted 49 to 43—along party lines—to confirm that Warren had violated Rule 19 of the Senate.

Rule 19 has been used in extremely rare cases in the Senate, and was originally a result of a fist fight between Senators more than a century ago. Trying to prevent violent outbursts like that, the Senate decided that senators are not allowed to “directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator.”

The Senate, however, has let many instances of Rule 19 violations slide by, including Ted Cruz calling McConnell a liar in 2015.

Senator Steve Daines was presiding over the Senate at the beginning of Warren’s address when he issued the first Rule 19 warning to Warren, NPR reports. Shortly after, McConnell decided that Warren’s historic quotations had crossed the line.

“The Senator will take her seat,” Daines said.

“I am surprised that the words of Coretta Scott King are not suitable for debate in the United States Senate,” Warren said in response to the Rule 19 invocation.

McConnell attempted to defend the decision by basically recounting the history of feminism.

“She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted,” McConnell concluded.

Little did he realize that his rationale for silencing Elizabeth Warren would turn a semi-ordinary night in the Senate into a national rallying call for Warren’s supporters. McConnell’s line went instantly viral on Twitter as social media users posted #LetLizSpeak.

You can even buy T-shirts boasting the “Nevertheless, she persisted,” slogan.

Warren did not let McConnell or GOP Senators silence her completely, though. She soon took to Facebook Live to read King’s letter, in full. The video garnered more than six million views.

Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico took the Senate floor the next day, formally entering the letter into the Senate record and finally reading King’s letter in full. Sen. Bernie Sanders also read the letter aloud.

Joe Biden is Going to Be a Professor at UPenn

If one thing is for sure, we will miss Joe Biden as our vice president. Luckily for college students, Uncle Joe is making the move from White House second-in-command to college professor.

Following months of speculation, University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann announced Tuesday that Vice President Joseph Biden was named the Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice Professor at UPenn.

According to a statement released by the University, Biden will head the newly founded Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C. The Center, which is set to open later in 2017, will focus on diplomacy, foreign policy and national security.

“At Penn, I look forward to building on the work that has been a central pillar of my career in public office: promoting and protecting the post-WWII international order that keeps the United States safe and strong,” said Vice President Biden in the statement.

Biden outed his plans to move onto UPenn last month during Biden’s farewell ceremony, after he was surprised with the Presidential Medal of Freedom (if you haven’t watched this tear-jerking video, you really should).

“Mr. President, look at my new boss over there,” Biden said, pointing to Gutmann.

While Biden himself never attended UPenn, his daughter Ashely Biden and his late son Beau Biden, along with his granddaughter Naomi, all graduated from the school.

Biden’s post-VP plans won’t be limited to the Ivy League university. According to the Daily Pennsylvanian, Biden also plans to serve as the “founding chair” of the new Biden Institute at his alma mater, the University of Delaware. The Biden Institute will be focused on developing policy solutions to a range of problems facing the country, including economic reform, women’s rights and environmental issues.

However, students shouldn’t expect to see Biden as their professor at an 8 a.m. lecture anytime soon.

“He will not be teaching classes,” Biden spokesperson Kate Bedingfield said in an interview with the Daily Pennsylvanian.

“Although he is not scheduled to teach a formal course at this time, we are certain that there will be opportunities for our students to benefit from his presence at Penn,” said Annenberg School for Communication Dean Delli Carpini in a statement.

President Trump Tweeted About 'Easy D'& the Internet Can't Handle It

During his usual daily Twitter meltdown Wednesday, President Donald Trump tweeted what seemed to be a statement about his controversial travel ban being put on hold while an appeals court makes a decision about its legality.

"Big increase in traffic into our country from certain areas, while our people are far more vulnerable, as we wait for what should be EASY D!" he wrote.

Trump likely meant that the courts shouldn't take so long to make an "easy decision" on his travel ban. Or maybe he meant "easy defense"? Either way, the internet collectively took it in a different direction.

Sometimes, all you can do is laugh.

Judges Were Skeptical of Trump's Travel Ban During an Appeals Court Hearing

0

On Tuesday, the judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals held a hearing on whether President Trump’s refugee and travel ban executive order should be frozen while its legality is still being determined, according to BuzzFeed News. The judges were skeptical of the Justice Department's arguments, to say the least.

Historically, the executive branch usually has a ton of space when it comes to immigration policies, but this ban just isn’t going to make it through that easily.

There are a lot of big issues at stake here. First, we’re all wondering whether the motives of this ban are fueled by religious discrimination. And then we get an even stickier situation when it comes down questioning the legality of this ban, which is preventing it from getting the green light from all three branches of government.

August Flentje, from the Justice Department, insisted that this is not a matter of religious discrimination, and argued that the president decided there is a real risk of terrorism in the U.S., which is enough in itself to justify the ban, according to BuzzFeed News.

There’s also the question of how, even if the order is deemed to be unconstitutional, it would still need to be deemed illegal as well, according to Vox. The Immigation and Nationality Act allows the president to ban any “alien or class of aliens” from entering the U.S., but also prohibits the president from disallowing a visa “because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence.”

With this heated up power struggle, plus an impassioned determination of rights, ethics, and constitutionality fueling the fire, it doesn’t look like the questions of this ban will be agreed upon any time soon.

All the Best 'Nevertheless, She Persisted' Clothes, Accessories & Merch You Can Buy Right Now

So during a Senate debate on Tuesday, Elizabeth Warren was silenced for quoting a 1986 Coretta King Smith letter opposing Jeff Sessions and his overtly discriminatory ways. This is funny (in a tragic sort of way), because Senator Warren is—let me put this in technical terms—an absolute badass. She has been unabashedly vocal about the Trump Presidency, and she continues to fight for justice with all her might.

Mitch McConnell, the Majority Leader who silenced Warren, used the words, "She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted." To the Internet, this sounded more like a feminist rallying cry than a reprimand. Naturally, the response was prompt and overwhelming: the hashtag #ShePersisted is raging on social media, and related merch is popping up everywhere you look. Here's a handy guide to all the cutest and most inspiring clothes, accessories and décor items to have come out of the incident.

Tom Hiddleston Finally Explains That 'I Heart T.S.' Tank Top Because We Deserve the Truth

This past summer was a wild ride for T. Swift fans. Amid all the Calvin Harris drama and Taylor's beef with Kanye West, we were treated to her summer fling with Tom Hiddleston, which was just as nuts. Specifically, we're referring to the time when he rocked a peculiar piece of clothing on the Fourth of July that left us all sorts of confused. Why was he wearing an "I

Well, it looks like we're finally getting the answer, Swifties. After months of wondering what exactly went down that afternoon, Tom Hiddleston's interview with GQ is giving us all the deets. The interviewer takes a moment to go back to that July afternoon, asking about the tank top and all the rumors that surround it.

"The truth is, it was the Fourth of July and a public holiday and we were playing a game and I slipped and hurt my back," Tom explains. "And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, 'Does anyone have a T-shirt?'" Apparently, one of Tay's friends then pulled out the famous "I

“I have to be so psychologically strong about not letting other people’s interpretations about my life affect my life. A relationship exists between two people. We will always know what it was. The narratives that are out there altogether have been extrapolated from pictures that were taken without consent or permission, with no context. Nobody had the context for that story. And I’m still trying to work out a way of having a personal life and protecting it, but also without hiding. So the hardest thing is that that was a joke among friends on the Fourth of July.”

Thanks for finally clearing that up, Tom. We were all so curious and promise to be more careful with our interpretations! Stay strong, bud.
