15 Times Lauren Conrad Perfectly Described Your Relationship With Clothes

$

Your relationship with clothing has its ups and downs. One day you're in love with a pair of jeans, and the next day you hate them, when they don't fit after all-you-can-eat sushi. Or you're obsessed with the new pair of heels that you just bought, until you wear them out and realize that they give you massive blisters. However, what you have with fashion and your closet is one relationship that you just can't quit. Lauren Conrad can relate in more ways than one.

1. When the store has the cute shoes on sale in yours and your best friend’s sizes

Now you just have to schedule who gets to wear the shoes which day.

2. When two items that you think are mismatched actually work together

A fancy dress with your old Stan Smiths? Yes please!

3. When your favourite fashion magazine comes in the mail

You’re ready to spend the next three hours reading, and definitely not getting off of the couch.

4. When you fall in love with a piece of clothing, and then see the price tag

Are you sure there’s not one too many zeros?

5. When you give your friend bad fashion advice

I’m sorry for telling you to wear that top, and I’m sorry that it caused your wardrobe malfunction.

6. When someone tells you that you care too much about fashion

There is no such thing!

7. When your roommate borrows your favorite pair of shoes without asking

Well, I know that Iwasn’t the one who got grass stains on my new pair of whiteshoes.

8. When you end up back at the mall for the third time that week

Ugh, I swore I wouldn’t spend any more money.

9. When you borrow something from your mom’s closet

Yes mom, I promise I’ll be super duper, extra careful with it.

10. When you realize that you’ve been spending two hours getting ready

It's okay, you’re only an hour late for the party, and you’re almost ready (you just need to do your hair).

11. When you’re trying to not judge someone else’s outfit

You can’t fault me for trying…

12. When your friend returns your favorite purse that she's literally had for months

Your baby’s home!!!

13. When you’re online shopping, and the dress you want is out of stock

Why do bad things happen to good people?

14. When you wear the wrong shoes with your cute outfit

And you only realize it once you get to the bar.

15. When you realize that you're a fashion queen

Happy birthday LC!

I'm About to Leave For Study Abroad & I'm Literally Terrified

I’ve always been a little on the spontaneous side. I hate making decisions, so I just do things in the moment without really thinking about it. I figure, apply now and decide later. Exchange was something I’ve always wanted to do, but the opportunity never presented itself in any real way, until now. All of my housemates were planning on applying, so I either had to apply with them or stay in our house alone for the semester—and the right choice was obvious to me.

I wanted an exchange experience completely different from home, somewhere that didn’t speak English as a first language. As an English major being taught English writers by English-speaking professors, life can get pretty redundant. Stockholm, Sweden fit all of my criteria—Europe, different language, big city—so it seemed like a good choice.

I applied just under a year ago and suddenly the countdown receded from months to weeks. As my departure date draws nearer, the panic is setting in. What the hell am I doing?! My apartment is rented, courses chosen, flights booked—it’s too late to turn back now. But I can’t help but wonder if I made the right choice. Yes, this is something I have always wanted to do but now that I’m doing it, I’m freaking out.

What if I get there and absolutely hate it? What if I don’t make friends? What if I get homesick? What if my boyfriend and I can’t last the long distance? There are just so many “what ifs." How could I not panic? I’m supposed to board a plane in two weeks and leave everyone I love behind for 6 months…WTF?!

I’m so excited and nervous at the same time that I’m starting to get whiplash. I’m torn between packing everything and making the perfect travel playlist and latching myself onto my boyfriend and “accidentally” missing the plane. I just don’t understand how I’m supposed to walk away in the airport.

I pride myself on my ability to be alone…I’ve never been the kind of girl that needed to be surrounded by people at all times. But this is next-level independence: I’m literally going to be on a different continent than my family and friends. I am way too introverted to go through the hassle of building another group of friends.

I know this is going to be *insert cheesy cliché about life-changing experience here* but my life at home is equally as great. I’m scared for all the things I’ll miss out on while I’m away and for all the things I’ll be doing without the people I want to do them with the most. I guess I just wish I took this opportunity before I got so comfortable having my people so close by.

Kim & Kanye Are Launching a Kids' Clothing Line, It's NBD Tho

If you were entertaining the thought that Kim and Kanye were splitting up, you'd better think again. The fashionable pair appear stronger than ever, and are merging their creative energies into a brand new project: a children's clothing line. On Tuesday, Kim teased the collection on her Snapchat, with North as her model of choice (can't blame her—the kid is just so frickin' adorable). The photos and videos feature lil' Northy in the cutest little yellow/lime green sequin dress and shearling jacket combo, and Kim's caption reads "coming soon." Between Kim and Kylie, this is one family that enjoys a dramatic reveal. Why you gotta play us like that, Kiki?

This is great news if you have young siblings, baby cousins, nieces and nephews, or godchildren, but still—I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy that I won't get to wear these totally extra pieces. I mean, come on, a sequin dress? That's my thing, y'all. With that in mind, it does make a lot of sense that the parents of arguably the world's best-dressed children would want to share a bit of North and Saint's fabulousness with the rest of us plebes. So for this I thank you, Kimye. Plz make clothes for me too k thx bye.

How to Handle Your Casual Hook-Up on Valentine’s Day

$

You finally got the courage to talk to that cute guy from your class, and one night at the bar, he made a move. You’re both having fun, but you decide to keep it casual without any real commitment. When your friends ask about him, you respond that you’re “hanging out” and nothing more, and you feel confident in this answer… until February rolls around. That’s when you realize that fun and flirty has the potential to get really awkward.

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love and friendship, but it’s more commonly known as the Hallmark holiday to get romantic with your SO or drink wine with your best friends. It can be fun whether you’re single or taken, but can be tricky for those of us whose relationship statuses aren’t so clearly defined. If you’re casually seeing someone, Valentine’s Day can get awkward. Here’s HC’s guide for how to handle your casual hook-up on February 14.

You’re not official, so you don’t have to do anything special

The biggest source of your anxiety probably comes from wondering if you have to do something special with your casual hook-up on Valentine’s Day. There’s definitely pressure to be romantic on February 14, but if you’re not official, the experts say celebrating Valentine’s Day together isn’t required.

“A gift would be nice, but definitely not necessary if you’re not in a defined relationship,” says Dr. Ish Major, psychiatrist and dating expert.“You’re not obligated to see each other, get together, go out or even hook up on that day. It’s not a ‘relationship,’ so it’s likely not exclusive.”

If you want to keep things strictly casual with your hook-up, consider doing something else on Valentine’s Day, whether it’s a chick-flick marathon with your girls or pampering yourself with a pedicure. You might be involved with someone, but you’re technically single, so show yourself some love instead!

Small gifts are okay to give

On some level you probably care about your casual hook-up, so if you want to get him or her something small, make sure it’s more funny than romantic.

“If you are not in an official relationship, but see something that reminds you of the person, it is a lovely gesture to give it to him or her,” says Jodi RR Smith, etiquette consultant and president of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting. “However, if you want to keep it casual, keep the gift on the light and funny side and under $20. When in doubt, a card is a great way to do something without it being too much.”

Dr. Ish encourages erring on the side of caution so you don’t send the wrong message. “Be careful [with gifts],” he says. “You don’t want to send the wrong message that could change the dynamics of what you have. It’s a balancing act.”

For example, instead of getting your casual hook-up a teddy bear holding a heart that says, “I love you,” give your hook-up some of his or her favorite candy or a funny card. You want to send the message that says, “I care about you” versus, “I’m madly in love with you.” A good rule of thumb: If you would feel uncomfortable getting the gift from your casual hook-up, don’t give it to him or her.

Giving gifts can get potentially awkward, especially if one person doesn’t reciprocate. If you decide to get your casual hook-up a small gift and you don’t receive one in return, don’t take it personally. “Remember the phrase: ‘Nice but not necessary,’” Dr. Ish says. “[The person] you’re hooking up with might be shy about giving gifts for Valentine’s Day because they don’t want to send a too strong of a message. It doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t care about you or think less of you; it just means they’re unsure of what, if anything, to do.”

On the flip side, if your casual hook-up gets you something for Valentine’s Day and you’re caught empty-handed, don’t freak out. Instead, stay calm and thank him or her sincerely. “Look him or her in the eye and say, ‘Thank you so much for thinking of me!’” Smith says. “Remember: A gift is not given with the expectation of getting.”

Don’t be afraid to talk about Valentine’s Day plans

The best way to avoid awkwardness on Valentine’s Day is to just have a conversationabout it. You might feel uncomfortable bringing it up depending on how long you’ve been hooking up or how casual the relationship is, but if you don’t want to keep guessing, bring it up casually without adding any pressure.

“You can say, ‘Hey, I wasn’t planning or expecting anything but I just wanted to double-check. Are we doing anything for Valentine’s Day?’” Dr. Ish suggests. “Keep it casual; keep it light. But do ask. [There are always] expectations or lack thereof, so it’s better to talk about them early than letting the day come and having it turn into something awkward.”

Want something a little subtler? Instead of flat-out asking, make a joke about how over-the-top convenience stores get with the holiday or ask what he or she’s doing that weekend in general (Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year, so it won’t be super obvious what you’re getting at). It would get the conversation started so you can gauge how your hook-up feels about the holiday, and then you can decide to make plans or not!

Whether you want to do something for Valentine’s Day or not, talking to your casual hook-up can be a lot easier than trying to guess what will happen on February 14. As long as you’re clear about how you feel and your expectations for Valentine’s Day, you can avoid the awkwardness!

If you find yourself somewhere between “just friends” and “in a relationship” with someone, Valentine’s Day can be a tricky situation. Before you rush to define your casual relationship or end it, keep these tips in mind so you can successfully avoid any awkward encounters on February 14!

Dr. Luke Is Trying to Sue Kesha Over a Text She Sent to Lady Gaga

In Oct. 2014, Kesha sued her producer Dr. Luke, alleging that he drugged, raped and inflicted verbal, physical, and emotional abuse on her for 10 years, according to People. Over two years later, the legal battle continues to take twists and turns.

On Jan. 30, Dr. Luke added a defamation claim to his suit over an alleged text that Kesha sent to Lady Gaga in Feb. 2016. Dr. Luke’s legal team claims that Kesha told Gaga that another recording artist was “raped by the same man,” implying that the “man” was Dr. Luke, according to People. Dr. Luke’s representatives say these allegations are false, and that Kesha’s intention was to “further [damage the Plaintiffs’] reputation and business,” according to Hello Giggles.

This is just the latest move in a back-and-forth battle that has left Kesha in limbo. Her counterclaims from this week allege that Dr. Luke has a "vendetta" against her. Because the singer is still bound by contract, she hasn't been able to produce new music—Dr. Luke “has yet to approve any song, a release date or promotional plan,” E! News reports. Over the summer, she submitted 28 songs to the label, according to Buzzfeed—none of which have moved forward. Kesha is also still owed royalties from the producer.

Though her contract is supposed to end this March, the terms may extend it much longer. An amendment to her complaint reads, “Without the court’s intervention and Sony’s facilitation, Kesha will remain contractually bound to Dr. Luke until she releases three additional albums, each containing six songs produced individually by Dr. Luke, no matter how many years that takes.”

Court appearances will proceed this month, with a deposition for Kesha on Feb. 7, and one for Dr. Luke on Feb. 14.

“She is not demanding more money. Kesha asks for something far more basic: the freedom to make music without being bound indefinitely to the very producer who subjected her to years of abuse and continues that abuse to this day. Dr. Luke seeks tens of millions of dollars in punitive damages from Kesha and her mother. If successful, Kesha and her mother would be penniless,” her lawyers wrote.

Donald Trump’s Black History Month Remarks Barely Even Mentioned Black History

Today is the first day of Black History month, and President Donald Trump decided to honor the occasion by hosting a “listening session” at the White House. But his remarks at the start of the session took a bizarre turn, as he barely mentioned Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Frederick Douglass before returning to one of his favorite subjects—how unfairly he’s been treated by the media.

“Last month, we celebrated the life of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., whose incredible example is unique in American history,” Trump said during the speech. “You read all about Dr. Martin Luther King a week ago when somebody said I took the statue out of my office, and it turned out that that was fake news. It was fake news.”

Trump was referring to a news story by TIME magazine reporting that Trump had replaced the bust of King in the Oval Office with another statue. The journalist who wrote the story quickly apologized and corrected what he wrote, but Trump was clearly hurt by the incident, as he continued talking about it for several more sentences.

“The statue is cherished. It's one of the favorite things in the—and we have some good ones,” he said. “We have Lincoln and we have Jefferson and we have Dr. Martin Luther King, and we have—but they said the statue, the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King was taken out of the office. And it was never even touched. So I think it was a disgrace, but that's the way the press is. Very unfortunate.”

Trump went on to mention the National Museum of African American History and Culture, saying, “I am very proud now that we have a museum on the National Mall where people can learn about Reverend King, so many other things. Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice—Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and millions more black Americans who made America what it is today. Big impact.”

This strange statement, which referred to Douglass (a famous abolitionist) in incredibly vague terms, prompted a quick response on Twitter.

Trump, who was surrounded by supporters such as Ben Carson and Omarosa Manigault, also talked how Fox News has treated him well, and mentioned that he would work “very hard on the inner city” and make communities safer through law enforcement.

Great to know our president can make literally anything about himself, even Black History Month!

The New 'Fifty Shades' Trailer Has Us Feeling Some Type of Way

The new trailer for Fifty Shades Darker was released a few days ago, and we're still not over it. Buckle your seatbelts, friends. Because this is going to be a wild(ly erotic) ride. I'll give you a two-word preview: elevator foreplay. Are you at work? Don't press play. Are you in your apartment pondering your seemingly unending singleness? By all means, press play.

It's only a little over a minute long, but we have all the feels. This trailer is sexier than the original; we didn't think that was possible. Anastasia finally seems more confident in herself, which is already an improvement from the first installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy. With Christian Grey sweet-talking you like that, how could you not be confident?

We are so excited to see this movie. Whether you love it or you love to hate it, it's still a must-see for this month of ~love~. To prepare, pop some popcorn and re-watch the first movie, re-read all the books, and buy your tickets in advance to see it on V-Day with your girls (or bae, if that's what you're into).

Hopefully we gave you some inspiration for your Valentine's Day plans. Just... don't partake in any elevator foreplay in your school's elevators. For the sake of everyone.

7 Important Books by POC You Need to Read in 2017

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Written By Deni, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

Ever since I was a kid I have loved to read. Reading has always been something I love to do to get away and enjoy some alone time, but as I got older I became too busy to read for my own personal enjoyment. One of my New Year’s resolutions of 2017 is to read more (at least two books a month) and I think others should include it as one of theirs too. I decided to come up with a list of books that I plan to read or have already read and recommend. The best thing about this list is that each book is written by a person of color, including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Zora Neale Hurston, and Issa Rae.

I am excited to read (or reread) because they are such interesting books with main characters of color. The first book is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; as you can tell by looking at the sidebar, I am currently reading this book and I love it so far. It’s funny but also clever, relatable and heartfelt at times. This is the first time I have read something by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and I’m excited to read more of her novels. I can’t wait to dive more into this novel. I love that it’s set in Nigeria and that it switches point of views between the two main characters, Ifemelu and Obinze.

Second is Juneteenth by Ralph Ellison, I haven’t read this book yet but I’m super excited to do so. In the African-American Literature class I took last spring, we were assigned to read excerpts from his novel Invisible Man (another book that I can’t wait to read in its entirety) and I loved it. Juneteenth tells the story of two lives that were separated by race but brought together by religion.

7 Black Designers Who Are Slaying the Fashion Game

$

0

The Western world has been overwhelmingly white in all industries for centuries. Thanks to movements such as the Civil Rights and to all people who marched for racial equality, this is changing slowly, but we still have a long, long way to go. For a few decades now, African-Americans have been on the rise in the fashion industry as models and designers, and have been making an important difference. In honor of Black History Month, check out these black fashion designers who have been killing the game lately.

1. Tracy Reese

She’s nothing less than extraordinary. Reese is known for her gorgeous ready-to-wear collections and mid-range pricetags (think $200-400 for a dress). One of her most prestigious clients is former FLOTUS Michelle Obama. Pretty cool!

2. Stella Jean

Jean is an Italian-Haitian fashion designer based in Rome where she is considered a rising star. Her designs reflect Haitian and West-African culture, and Beyoncé wears her clothing... Enough said!

3. Carly Cushnie

Cushnie is not only known for her good looks—she is above all part of a duo called Cushnie et Ochs with Michelle Ochs. Together they launched a stunning line after graduating from Parsons School of Design. Cushnie is based in SoHo, and has dressed awesome celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow.

4. Olivier Rousteing

Rousteing is a French designer and the Creative Director of Balmain. He is also known for dressing and hanging out with the Kardashian gang, as well as people like the Hadid sisters and Rihanna. NBD.

5. Dumebi Iyamah

Iyamah is a talented fashion designer based in Canada. She was discovered through her blog in 2011 and her brand specializes in custom couture and swimwear. Her swimsuits are fabulous!

6. Kahindo Mateene

Mateene was born in Congo and demonstrates her cultural background through her designs. Her clothing is a perfect blend of her African heritage and Western design. Mateene was also a contestant on the 12th season of Project Runway. She is so dope!

7. Darlene & Lizzy Okpo

The Nigerian sisters have a brand called William Okpo, and have collaborated with Solange Knowles. Vogue even warned other sister duos such as the Olsens and Mulleavys to look out for these two!

There's still a lot to be done to give everyone the same amount of recognition regardless of race, but for now, let's enjoy the takeover of black designers in the fashion industry.

Taylor Swift's 2016 Grammys Speech Just Became Even More Inspiring

$

If there was one word to describe Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Album of the Year from the 2016 Grammys, it would be "empowering." Though the content of her speech was prompted by the controversy over Kanye West's "Famous," which Kim Kardashian later exposed Taylor over, the message in the acceptance speech is still one we can get behind.

"As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame," Taylor said back in 2016. "But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world."

This speech continues to be a source of inspiration to women of all ages, and a new ad for the 2017 Grammys—which will take place Feb. 12—shows young girls reciting the very same words as they take part in the things they're most passionate about.

Take a look at it below—it might be the most uplifting thing you’ll see all day.

Corinne from 'The Bachelor' Sort Of Clarifies Why She Has a Nanny

It's no question that Corinne has definitely stirred the pot during this season of The Bachelor. Amid topless photo shoots, whipped cream and a steamy makeout sesh in a bounce house, we caught Corinne telling the other contestants about Raquel, her nanny. While we were left with so many questions, Ellen DeGeneres came through to give Corinne a chance to finally explain herself (and maybe sound a little less crazy?).

After a few joking moments on her show, Ellen finally asks the question that's on all of our minds: "Why do you have a nanny?"

"She works with my family. She's been with us for 18 years," Corinne explains. "She moved with us to Florida from New Jersey. She's kind of, like, my everything."

Corinne then goes into more detail, explaining how much Raquel means to her and her family: "She raised my sister. She helped my mom through cancer. She's just great. She's part of our family. She's not like my nanny, like my babysitter."

Although Corinne's explanation gives us a bit more information than we got from her on the show, there are still some things that aren't adding up—like why on earth a 24-year-old woman is still having her bed made and cucumbers sliced for her? Still a bit confused by what's going on, Ellen asks why Corinne referred to Raquel as her nanny on the show, if she's not actually a nanny.

"Nanny is kind of like a word that I use for her because I have a lot of respect for her, and she's kind of like a mother figure to me so I don't really like to say cleaning lady or housekeeper," Corinne explains. "Nanny to me is a more ‘respectful' word for her, because I really do love her and she's a very big part of my life."

Personally, I feel like there are still better words out there to describe a woman like that besides "nanny," but at least Corinne got to explain herself and the nanny situation better than she did on the show. She did just wake up from a nap on the couch after all...

Chris Brown Confesses That He's a Stalker Boyfriend & It's Creepy AF

Stalker boyfriends are one of a girl's worst nightmares—you know, the ones who are so in love with you that they creep around your house, blow up your phone and always have to know where you are and who you're with? Chris Brown is one of those stalkers, apparently! Brown decided to share the unsettling fact on Instagram in a now-deleted post, and it's creepy AF.

He begins the video saying, "Ladies, y'all be complaining about ni**as being, like, stalkers and in love with y'all, kinda crazy and shit and you get tired of it." But before we could even nod our heads in agreement, he aggressively continues, "Well, guess what? I'm one of them ni**as!”

Whether he meant this video as a joke or not, stalking is obviously not a laughing matter, especially considering Brown's history with women (his abuse towards Rihanna in 2009 being exhibit A). Perhaps the most disturbing part of the video is when he says, "If I love you, bitch, ain't nobody gonna have you. I'm gonna make you miserable. I'm going to chase that ni**a out and I'm gonna chase yo ass around, and it's done."

Being a controlling and possessive boyfriend is not cute, especially when you smile and brag about it on social media for the whole world to hear. If you can handle watching the video without feeling absolutely creeped out, you can check it out below.

Moral of the story? Never date Chris Brown (or anyone like Chris Brown). Thanks for the warning!

Wheaton College is Standing Up to Trump With a New Scholarship For Refugees

Wheaton College in Massachusetts has officially taken a stand against the Trump administration’s executive order banning many Muslim immigrants from entering the country. The Massachusetts school announced Tuesday it has created a scholarship to benefit refugees from the seven banned countries, according to USA Today College.

The scholarship will prioritize refugee students from the seven countries—Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen—to which the Trump executive order applies. The prize is a full ride to one student, including full tuition, room and board and expenses for four years. The scholarship deadline will be March 1, in order to give eligible students time to apply.

The private liberal arts college, which serves over 1,000 students, is the first college thus far to take such an action to encourage refugee students—though other schools have announced that they will not disclose the immigration status of their students to the Trump administration. The president of the college released a statement on Wheaton's website, asking that the country welcome immigrants and refugees. The statement reads, “The current executive order on immigration, which was signed January 27, endangers the broadly diverse learning environment that is essential to our mission… We must counter that divisive message [of the executive order].” The statement also called on other colleges to do the same and for legislators to end the ban.

The executive order, which was issued on Jan. 27, has banned Syrian refugees indefinitely and bars citizens of the seven listed countries from entering the U.S. It has also suspended new refugee admissions. The order sparked protest all over the country and the world, including at airports where travelers from the aforementioned countries were detained. The administration denies the “vetting process” as a ban, even though that's exactly what it is.

As a Journalism Student, I Am Terrified by the Trump Administration's Mistreatment of the Media

In the months and days leading up to and following Donald J. Trump’s presidency, it has become increasingly evident to me that the next four, possibly eight, years are not going to be kind to journalists. The Trump administration’s distasteful reaction to any sort of news that casts a spotlight on his fallacies, despite factuality, poses a clear and terrifying threat on democracy and the freedom of the press. We have watched as he went on a year long tirade attempting to tarnish the reputation of Fox’s Megyn Kelly. We have watched as he refused to take a question from CNN’s Jim Acosta at his first press conference as president and accused CNN of being “fake news.” We have watched as he stated that journalists were “among the most dishonest people on earth.” And most recently we watched Trump’s press secretary, Sean Spicer, ridiculously accuse the media of falsely reporting on the size of the inaugural audience. Even further, Mr. Spicer declared a “running war” with the news media. What does all of this have in common? It is unprecedented backlash from a man with an ego that does not allow him to ignore criticism, and who has an alarming penchant for public retaliation. Donald Trump is not afraid to attack those he feels have wronged him or portrayed him in a negative light. He has always been an advocate for hitting anyone who has hit him ten times harder. His latest victim has been the media.

As an aspiring journalist and American citizen, it is incredibly disheartening to watch as the president of the United States, the most prominent and respected public figure in the country, constantly belittles the media. It is a journalist’s responsibility to report the facts with a wholehearted desire to tell the truth to the American people. How are we supposed to carry out such an important task with a president who is so quick to hop on Twitter and denounce a reporter or news organization if he feels a tiny bit offended? Trump’s fear-mongering tactics are a pathetic attempt to deter the media from reporting the facts, just like his request for the media to not use “unflattering” pictures of him (he especially hates that one that shows off his double chin).

Donald Trump’s success can easily be credited to a mass amount of media coverage. The man knows how to use and abuse the press. He only accepts news from outlets that praise him (he is notably fond of the Fox news channel–he reportedly exclusively watches Fox every morning to receive his news) and turns his back on those who shed light on his bad traits. It is scary to think that a misinformed public may begin to turn away from credible news sources due to misconceptions concocted by the president. Even scarier is the Trump administration’s recent dissemination of what presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway penned as “alternative facts,” referring to Spicer’s false claims that pictures of Trump’s inauguration were tampered with by the media to make the crowd appear smaller and that Trump drew the largest inauguration crowd in history. These statements were quickly proven to be falsehoods. The phrase “alternative facts” sparked a scary likening to George Orwell’s classic book 1984about a totalitarian regime. “The Party told you to reject all evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” Orwell wrote. Do we really want to live in an America where our president is funneling lies to us without even blinking? Are we spiraling into a 1984-like world where we will be blind to everyday truths that so obviously surround us? How are we supposed to know what is the truth when our very own leader is predisposed to tell lies to the people in order to create an delusive image of himself? We don’t want alternative facts. We want the TRUTH. I can only hope that the media can uphold their obligation to the public to seek out the truth and dispel any and all “alternative facts” during Donald Trump’s presidency.
