Trump Held His First News Conference Since July, & It Was Really Something

On Wednesday, Donald Trump held his first official news conference as president-elect in Trump tower. The official reason for the news conference was to announce how he would be separating himself from his business, but The New York Times reports that much more happened while Trump spoke to the press.

One of the biggest things to come from the news conference: Trump has finally admitted that Russia may have been behind the hacking of the 2016 election. Hearing Trump say, "As far as hacking, I think it was Russia," is a bit of a shock after he denied these findings for weeks. It seems that the briefing he received from U.S. intelligence officials may have given him enough evidence to finally change his mind. However, later in the conference he backtracked a bit, claiming that "it could have been others also." He also blamed the Democratic National Committee for the hacking, which he believes was caused by their poor cyber-security measures, CNN reports. He has also requested that intelligence agencies create a report on "hacking defense" examining the situation and other hacking incidents, which the Times reports is to be released 90 days after he takes office.

When questioned further about Russia's involvement in the election, Trump said that it's actually a good thing that Russia likes him and that it may allow the U.S. and Russia to work together better on some important international issues. He also believes that with him as America's leader, Russia will have greater respect for our country. He chose not to answer a question on whether himself or anyone on his campaign staff had contact with Russia throughout the campaign.

Speaking later on the true subject of the news conference, it turns out that Trump's decided not to divest from his businesses—meaning he'll still have a financial stake. While this is legal, it's definitely a real concern that Trump's business interests will affect his political decisions. His sons will take over the business, and according to Trump, "They're not going to discuss it with me." Lawyer Sheri Dillon told the press that Trump wants there to be no doubt that he is "separating himself from his business interests"—he'll resign from his positions within the Trump Organization, which will also be appointing an ethics adviser to their management team to ensure Trump is not involved in any dealings.

Trump also commented on his plans for the Affordable Care Act. All he had to say was that he was going to repeal and replace it, but he didn't seem to have any details on what that replacement will be. In other vague statements, he reiterated that Mexico will pay for the border wall, but said it may not be an actual "payment," but rather a tax of some sort.

Of course, Trump made sure to use the opportunity of a press conference to berate the press. He called BuzzFeed "a failing pile of garbage," and got into a fight with CNN's Jim Acosta, saying things like "your organization's terrible" and "you are fake news," the Times reports. He threatened consequences to the news organizations like these two that he believes have posted "fake news." His spokesman Sean Spicer opened the conference with a comment about these news organizations'"political witch hunt," according to CNN. But don't worry, Trump says he has "great respect for freedom of the press."

Inauguration is only nine days away. Are we ready for this?

Natalie Portman Was Paid 3 Times Less Than Ashton Kutcher for 'No Strings Attached'

It is no secret that a gender wage gap exists today, and as much as celebrities are on a different playing field than us, they don’t have it any better. That's why Natalie Portman is speaking out about her costar Ashton Kutcher’s earnings for their film No Strings Attached being three times the amount she was paid.

Comparing the earnings of actors and actresses has become commonplace since the Sony hack of 2014, which caused Jennifer Lawrence to discover exactly how much less she was making than her male counterparts. But since then, more actors and actresses have been openly discussing the issue.

In an interview with Marie Claire U.K., Portman admits, "I knew and I went along with it because there’s this thing with ‘quotes’ in Hollywood. His [quote] was three times higher than mine so they said he should get three times more. I wasn’t as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy.”

As much as we are aware of the struggles presented by the glass ceiling, Portman has a point. It's imperative to note that it is not just the middle and lower classes that face these challenges. It is women everywhere.

We need more women like Natalie who are willing to talk about these problems until they are solved.

UCLA Students Protested Outside the Class of a Professor Accused of Sexual Assault & Got Him to End Class Early

Students at UCLA protested a history class on Monday taught by a professor accused of sexual assault, according to the Daily Bruin.

Two graduate students reported that history professor Gabriel Piterberg had sexually harassed them in 2013, even forcing his tongue into their mouths.

The protest was led by members of the Bruin Consent Coalition and Bruins Against Sexual Harassment. They chanted and carried signs calling for the termination of Piterberg employment in hopes of disrupting the class so students would know about the allegations against Piterberg. And disrupt they did—Just 20 minutes in, Piterberg dismissed the class.

The suit from the graduate students was settled in 2016, and Piterberg was suspended without pay during the 2014 spring semester.

Piterberg resigned his role as director of the UCLA’s Near Eastern Studies in May 2015. He had to go to sexual harassment training, isn't allowed to meet with students alone anymore, and doesn't have full access to his office on weekends. It's worth asking—If a professor has to be restricted in all these ways to keep students safe, should he even be allowed to teach at the university?

Some students coming out of the class after the protest told the Daily Bruin they would not have known about the sexual assault claims were it not for the protest, but others thought the protests were disruptive to students just trying to learn.

Either way, UCLA (and most other universities) clearly have a lot of work to do in terms of investigating and punishing sexual assault.

From Posh Spice to wife and mother, Victoria Beckham has been a pop culture icon for decades, and after taking many direct hits over the years, she's admitted to some of the hard truths and emotions that come with fame. Cosmopolitan reports that in a letter to her 18-year-old self, the fashionista recalls the insecurities, bullying and distress of her youth and owns up to her plastic surgery regrets.

For years Beckham denied rumors that she had breast implants, but eventually she told the truth in a 2014 interview with Allure magazine. Now she's reflecting on her decision to go under the knife.

In the letter printed by British Vogue, she writes, “And I should probably say, don’t mess with your boobs. All those years I denied it—stupid. A sign of insecurity. Just celebrate what you’ve got.”

Knowing now that her life has been filled with love, happiness and success, Victoria is celebrating all that she’s accomplished. Way to go, Posh. Now help me launch my own empire, please and thank you.

6 Genius Things To Do With Leftover Wine

$

Wine, vino, drink of the gods — no matter what you call it, wine has a special place in our hearts and our bellies. Instead of letting that half empty bottle go to waste or sit in your fridge for a ridiculous amount of time, try repurposing it in one of these creative ways.

1. Cook with it

You only need to add a little bit of wine to pack a flavorful punch. Red wine pairs great with red sauces, and white with creamy sauces. If pasta isn't your thing, you can add wine to recipes for chicken, fish or even roasted veggies for an extra kick. This first recipe calls for red wine, but if you have leftover white, you can cook up a garlic sauce in a similar way. Don't worry if your wine is leftover from a few days ago. The more acidic the wine, the less you will need to use in your recipe. This first recipe only calls for 1/8 of a cup! Long hot cooking processes like a stew or soup will help reduce the wine to make it less vinegar-like. No matter what type of wine you have leftover, there's a way to cook with it.

Fresh Tomato Sauce with Balsamic and Red Wine

Recipe courtesy of Florida Coastal Cooking

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of ripe organic tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1/8 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of dried sea salt, oregano, thyme, and basil
  • 1 tsp coconut plam sugar

Directions

  1. Boil a pot of water and prep an ice bath to dunk your tomatoes in after blanching. Slice a cross on top of the tomatoes. Peel and skin them.

  2. Heat olive oil in the pot tomatoes were blanched in. Sauté onion and garlic before adding in the rest of the ingredients to cook for 40 minutes.

Chicken Thighs Braised in Garlic and White Wine

Recipe courtesy of Real Simple

  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 8 chichen thighs
  • 3/4 cup of all-purpos flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 small yellow onions, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, sliced thin
  • 3 jarred hot cherry peppers, plus 3 tablespoons of the brine
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup of long grain white rice

Directions

  1. In a bowl combine oregano and a pinch of salt and pepper
  2. Pat the chicken dry and season with spice mixture and dredge in the flour. Heat a pan with the olive oil and brown the chicken over medium heat about 4 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Add the onions to the pot and cook until browned. Add the garlic and cherry peppers. Cook for two minutes and then add the pepper brine, wine, and broth and bring to a boil. Put the chicken back in the pot and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Cook the rice according to the package and spoon chicken and broth mixture over it.

2. Bake with it

If you prefer sweet to savory, then you should be using your leftover wine to make one of these simple desserts. Red wine and chocolate are a notorious power couple in the kitchen, and they are just as delicious in baked goods. If you have leftover red wine you should be using it to make rich chocolatey desserts like the brownie recipe below. White is typically baked with fruits like pears of peaches, but you can go fruitless with the cake recipe below. The same rule applies for baking as it does cooking -- don't bake with wine you wouldn't drink!

Red Wine Brownies

Recipe courtesy of A Cookie Named Desire

  • 3/4 cup of red wine
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 stick of butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 6 oz of dark or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Soak the cranberries in the wine for 30 minutes until they look plump. Speed up the process by gently heating them up in the microwave or on a stovetop.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8x8 inch pan
  3. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl over boiling water heat the butter and chocolate until melted together. You can do this in the microwave but the chocolate is more likely to burn that way.
  5. Remove the bowl from heat and beat in the eggs
  6. Add the sugar, cocoa powder, and flour to the mixture. Mix well.
  7. Mix in the red wine and cranberries. Fold in the walnuts.
  8. Bake for 50-55 minutes and then let cook for about 30 minutes.

White Wine Cake

Cake

  • 1 box of yellow cake mix
  • 1 smal box of instant vanilla pudding
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup of white wine
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup of light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Glaze

  • 1 stick of margarine
  • 1 cup fo sugar
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of white wine

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Spray pan with non stick spray.
  3. Prepare boxed cake mix leaving out pecans.
  4. Layer pecans at the bottom of the pan, then pour the cake mix over.
  5. Bake for an hour and ten minutes.
  6. For the glaze, bring all ingredients to a boil for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and add in the wine.
  8. Spoon the glaze onto the cake while it is still hot after removing from the oven.

3. Make a face mask

Take things to the next level with this mix of ingredients. No, they aren’t for eating -- but for an awesome facemask that has been taking Pinterest by storm. The combination of anti-inflammatory ingredients plus the smell of honey and red wine make this mixture absolutely perfect.

Wine Face Mask

Recipe courtesy of Bustle and The Beauty Bean

  • 1 teaspoon of Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of red wine (Merlot)
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Directions

  1. Mix it all up and apply to a clean face with a cotton ball.
  2. Leave it on for about 15 minutes then rinse off for smooth refreshed skin.

4. Get rid of wine stains

No, you shouldn't fight fire with fire -- but you can fight wine stains with wine stains. Elizabeth Reeve, a senior at Wells College, learned this trick the hard way. "I was with some friends and spilled a little wine on my shirt. The next thing I know my friend was cleaning it with white wine," she says. "It didn't completely go away, but I was able to salvage my shirt." For this trick, you have to work quickly. White wine can be used to clean up red wine stains, but only when the stain is still damp. Unfortunately, it doesn't work the other way around.

Clean up red wine

Recipe courtesy of Cleanipedia

  • salt
  • white wine
  • baking soda

Directions

  1. Dab any excess liquid.
  2. Apply the salt.
  3. Then apply the white wine.
  4. Mix baking soda with water and apply to the stain.
  5. Wash off and then wash as per usual.

5. Freeze it

Freezing wine is an easy way to save that leftover bottle. The easiest and most efficient way to do this is to use an ice cube tray. Frozen wine is best for cooking but can be used to create a slushie-like sangria or boozy ice pops. Time-wise, you should use up or freeze wine within a day if it's been left out, or a week if it's been closed and kept in the fridge.

Wine cubes

How-to courtesy of The Balance

Directions

  1. Fill an empty ice cube tray with wine.
  2. Keep in the freeer. (Typically freezes quicker than water due to the alcohol content.)
  3. Remove from tray and keep in a freezer safe back for easy access.

6. Sanitize with it

Wine is typically associated with stains, but it can actually be used to sanitize. Sanitizing, or removing bacteria, isn't the same thing as cleaning (so be sure to still wash your fruits and veggies!). Get rid of any bacteria hiding in your produce or on your countertop with white wine. The alcohol is what gets the job done. Add some to a spray bottle and spray it on your veggies or table. For your countertop, stick to dry white wines so you won't have to deal with any sticky residue.

The 17 Cutest Things to Do With Your Boyfriend on Valentine's Day

It’s the most romantic day of the year… until you end up basically sitting in the lap of the couple next to you at a crazy expensive Valentine’s Day dinner, wondering if the gift you got your boyfriend was too much or not enough. We've all fallen prey to Valentine’s Day snafus (don’t even get us started on Valentine’s Day 2011), from lingerie mishaps to dining disasters. This year, to keep you embracing candy hearts and Cupids, we've compiled 17 cute things you can do with or for your boyfriend on your ~special day~. What are the most unique and romantic ways to celebrate? What does your boyfriend really want? How can you spice up the day without stressing out? We have you covered.

1. Be a snow bunny

couple laying in the snow snow bunnies snow angel winter coats scarves skiing

We know, we know—we’re all tired of freezing every time we step outside and slipping on ice when we walk to class. But few things are as romantic as playing in the snow with your boyfriend on Valentine’s Day. Channel your inner 10-year-old and head outside for a snowball fight and snow angels—we're sure your man will be happy to keep you warm.

2. Dress the part

The easiest way to spread Valentine’s cheer is to go elementary school and wear pink and red. Meet your boyfriend for a day date in skinny jeans and a pink top or sport a red mini dress for your night together. For after hours, try Victoria’s Secret's Valentine’s-themed lingerie.

3. Give a gift that keeps giving

As we searched for the perfect gift for our boyfriends last Valentine’s Day, we knew that guys love two things: beer, and lots of beer. It was with this information that we stumbled upon Amazing Clubs. Amazing Clubs is a website that lets you send a 12-pack of gourmet beer to your boyfriend every month for as many months as you choose. If beer is too pricey, you can also order coffee, BBQ sauce or ice cream.

4. Go ice-skating

The HC team’s number one recommendation for a perfect Valentine’s date is ice-skating. If romantic comedies have taught us anything, it is that skating rinks breed romance. So go have yourself a Serendipity moment and spend the day ice-skating with your BF—don’t forget the cocoa!

5. Go skinny-dipping

scarlet johansson he's just not that into you skinny dipping in a pool swimming

If ice-skating is too tame and your school is in a sunny place, many HCers recommend nighttime skinny-dipping. Seriously, few things are hotter than a steamy, late-night swim. Just be careful, please; getting caught trespassing might kill the mood.

6. Buy him tickets to a game

If you want all of his friends to be saying, “You seriously have the best girlfriend ever, ” tickets to his favorite sporting event are the way to go. Not only will you make his night and show that you’re into his interests, but you’ll also get to share something special to him together, and what’s better than that? StubHub is a great place to look for discounted tickets.

7. Do dinner in bed

Going out for Valentine’s Day dinner is a tradition that needs to go. Unless you’re Posh and Becks, the service is bound to be terrible, the menu limited and the prices steep. Instead, try ordering in from a favorite restaurant and eating the meal in bed. Spend the night relaxing over good food and cozy company instead of cramped with strangers.

8. Have an indoor picnic

vday valentine's day romantic decorations fireplace rose petals spelling out I Love You champagne I heart you candles pillows

Harvard collegiette Olivia Ford suggests taking the dinner in bed idea even further with an indoor picnic. To decorate your space, string white Christmas lights around the room, buy some picnic-y snacks, pop the champagne and set up a blanket and pillows for you and your boy to sit on. Oh, and don’t forget to ask your roommates for some alone time!

9. Cook him a meal

Strawberry bellinis, chicken parmesan, spaghetti and chocolate mousse—nothing will make your man swoon more quickly than a delicious Valentine’s meal. If you're feeling ambitious and extra sweet, cooking dinner for your boyfriend is the way to go. If you're an all-star in the kitchen, check out Food Network’s Valentine’s Day food and dessert recipes. However, if you’re like most of us and cooking a full gourmet meal is not a possibility, look at ifood’s simple recipes, like heart-shaped pizza. Also, if your boyfriend is up for it, cook dinner together—it will be surprisingly sexy to see your guy move around the kitchen.

10. Give him a classic card

Whether you’ve been dating for a while and you want to tell him how you feel or you haven’t been dating long at all but want to show you care, a card goes a long way. Get out the construction paper, doilies and stamps, and get artsy. For amazing card ideas, check out Martha Stewart’s card projects. When it comes to writing, a cute poem or heartfelt message is always a hit.

11. Set a budget and make it fun

Let’s face it: Valentine’s Day can get pricey. Instead of stressing about buying an expensive gift, set a budget with your guy and get creative. For 10 dollars, you could buy a cheesy, V-Day themed stuffed animal; bake cupcakes or, better yet, purchase massage oil to really make his night.

12. Head to Victoria’s Secret

To ensure a smile on his face this V-day, the HC team recommends wearing hot underwear that he has never seen before. Let’s be real, what makes him happier or you feel sexier than a new, lacy bra?

13. Take him down memory lane

Even though Valentine’s Day is about celebrating the moment, there’s no better day to reflect on what makes you so happy with your man in the first place. A great way to celebrate your relationship is to make a scrapbook—look through old pictures, find cute stickers and paper and then channel your inner Warhol. If making a full scrapbook is too time-consuming, make a collage card or mini scrapbook.

14. Splurge on a hotel room

If you are willing to splurge on a gift, why not get away from roommates and sharing twin beds (no matter how much you love sleeping right next to your boyfriend!). Sometimes, the best way to get in the mood is to invest in a change of space. Spend the night ordering room service, cuddling in a big bed and taking bubble baths…what could be better than that?

15. Make a coupon book

It’s true, coupon books are hardly a new concept, but what guy doesn’t want his Valentine’s gift to last all year? Make him a coupon book for things like fresh-baked cupcakes, a movie night or a massage—and feel free to spice it up!

16. Whip up some cocktails

valentine's day themed cocktail raspberry cocktail red drink pink drink love happy hour alcoholic beverage

While getting drunk on V-day is probably not the best idea, making Valentine’s Day-themed cocktails with your boyfriend is a fun and festive way to celebrate the day. Make each other drinks post-dinner; after all, ending Valentine’s Day with a homemade Be Mine Mojito doesn’t get much better. If you’re under 21, check out these awesome mocktail recipes

17. Be appreciative

We know we can all get a little carried away with a Valentine’s Day fantasy. But even if you spent the past three weeks dreaming of sailing on a yacht with your boyfriend or opening a Tiffany’s box, be appreciative if he gives you a teddy bear. We're not talking being understanding if he forgets the day altogether, but V-Day can be a little stressful for everyone, so make sure to acknowledge the effort he makes—you'll have more fun, and he’ll be thankful to have such an appreciative girlfriend!

5 Ways To Handle A Crush Who’s Afraid Of Commitment

The dating world is a confusing place. It begins all fun and happy with the mushy texts, Snapchats and late-night phone calls. Maybe you’ve met up to hang out a few times, or have even gone out on a couple of dates. Suddenly, you’re falling hard for your crush, wondering when you’ll finally be ready to DTR. While you’re lost in the feels, however, your crush isn’t giving off the same vibe. Don’t freak! We’ve rounded up a few collegiettes who want to share their experiences in the dating world, and how to deal with the c-word: commitment.

1. Be upfront

Being upfront in a relationship can be scary, but it can also pay off in the long run. Danielle*, a junior at Elmhurst College, says, “You should definitely be upfront and ask your crush questions such as ‘If we were to start a relationship, would you be committed?’”

There’s a saying that goes along the lines of “if you never ask, the answer is always no.” While relationships are rarely ever as simple as a yes or no answer, you’ll never truly know if your crush is looking for a committed relationship or just a hook-up if you never ask. If you’re looking for commitment, asking from the get-go could save you some heartbreak in the future if you and your crush aren’t on the same page.

Along with asking questions, it’s important to be vocal about your concerns within the relationship. If you’re concerned about the direction your relationship is headed and whether or not it’s just a fling, being open and honest about these feelings will help ensure that you both are on the same page. Tessa McKenna, a junior at Carthage College, values the importance of voicing concerns. “Bringing your concerns up to your significant other is okay! As long as it’s in a calm, healthy manner,” she says. Commitment can be a delicate subject, but approaching the issue in the right way can make all the difference.

2. Don’t force anything

At the same time, you want to make sure you’re not forcing anything. While it might be difficult to deal with the intense feelings and want for a relationship, it’s important to be sure that you’re not making the other person feel pressured into committing to something they don’t want or maybe aren’t ready for. “The best thing to do is to not force anything,” says Tessa. “Relationships are natural and develop over time.” Rather than trying your hardest to make the commitment happen, it may be better for both you and the person you’re interested in to relax and go with the flow of your relationship, and allow the nature of it to take its course.

If your crush is intimidated by the thought of commitment and you want to prevent them from feeling pressured, the situation may call for a little space. Alice Higginbotham, a junior at Northern Illinois University, offers some insight on why space can be good. “Maybe they just need time to themselves to figure out who they are and what they want,” she says. “Give them the space they need, but if you know they’re afraid of commitment and you really have feelings for them, let them know it’s not a bad thing.” While giving them some time to themselves will allow them to figure out more about who they are and what they want, reminding them that commitment doesn’t have to be scary can help reassure them and calm any anxiety they might have.

3. Keep in mind that everyone is different

Understand that not everyone moves at the same pace. “It’s important to realize that everyone is created extremely different — we are all unique and go through things differently,” Tessa says. Maybe your crush was not treated well in the past, which led to trust issues and fear of committing. Maybe they want to take things slow, or just don’t want to get hurt. “Not everyone can have the same level of commitment as you due to their past or their personality.”

Ultimately, understanding why your crush is uncomfortable with commitment and respecting their feelings can help you both move forward at a speed you can agree on. “Keep the communication easy and flowing and respect that they might move differently than you,” Tessa adds. Communication is key!

4. Ask yourself the big questions

It’s not only important to ask your crush the right questions in regards to what they want in a relationship, but it’s also important to ask yourself what you want as well. “If you are trying to be with someone that’s afraid of commitment, then it is important to ask yourself if it’s worth it to you to put in the extra work,” Tessa says. “If the answer is yes, then it’s crucial to understand that everyone moves at their own pace.” Giving your crush the right amount of space and time to figure out what they want is not easy, but if the effort is worth it to you, you’ll make it work.

5. Remember that time is key

Just as communication is key, time is just as huge. “Time is key — there is always room for change and growth,” Tessa says. After being vocal about what you’re looking for and taking the time to understand your crush’s needs, only time will tell if the relationship is meant to be or if the commitment is just not there.

Commitment can cause a rollercoaster of emotions, and although they might leave you dizzy from the ride, taking the right approach and understanding what you and your crush need specifically will make the rest smooth sailing. At the end of the day, understanding and respecting each other is the most important, whether the commitment is ready to be made or not.

How to Deal With & Prevent Ingrown Hairs

$

We’ve all seen the insane videos of just how bad ingrown hairs can get, so what’s the deal with these things? Between zits, blackheads, acne and everything else that pesters our bodies, it’s hard to keep up on how to deal with what. While ingrown hairs may be similar in appearance to pimples, they’re definitely not the same thing. We’re clearing up other misconceptions and filling you in on everything you need to know—especially how to get rid of them!

What are ingrown hairs?

Commonly referred to as “razor bumps,” ingrown hairs are a condition in which hair grows back into a follicle or grows sideways within the skin, according to Dr. Nada Elbuluk, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor at the New York University Department of Dermatology. Rather than the hair rising up from your skin, these hairs curl around and grow back in.

Dr. Elbuluk says they “often look like small round bumps on the skin which have a hair trapped in them.” Their color depends on the person’s baseline skin, but these bumps can be anywhere from pink and red to brown. For women, these commonly pop up on areas we shave, like our legs, as well as our bikini area and armpits. However, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Vicki Rapaport says that ingrown hairs can occur in areas that haven’t ever been shaved, or on someone who doesn’t shave at all.

What causes them?

Even though anyone can get ingrown hairs, shaving, waxing and threading do increase your chances. Shaving is especially risky because you’re breaking off hair unevenly with a sharp tip. Waxing tends to lessen ingrown hairs. “Dead skin cells and increased sebum [oil] production within a hair follicle can also contribute to the formation of ingrown hairs,” Dr. Elbuluk says.

Additionally, people with coarse and/or curly hair are more likely to get ingrown hairs. However, despite these factors, licensed cosmetologist M.E. Nesser agrees with Dr. Rapaport that everyone is prone to ingrown hairs, whether they shave or not!

How can you prevent them?

While there is no 100-percent-guaranteed way to avoid ingrown hairs, here are some tips from Dr. Elbuluk and Dr. Rapaport to lessen the chance of getting them:

  • If you don’t mind not shaving, let your hair grow!
  • Choose a razor that’s sharp and single-bladed. “Sharp razors help swiftly and cleanly ‘cut’ the hair so it is a bit less likely to get stuck inside the follicle opening,” Dr. Rapaport says.
  • Shave in the direction of your hair growth to also get a better chance of cleanly and swiftly cutting the hair.
  • Avoid shaving over the same area multiple times if you have sensitive skin. Dr. Rapaport says doing so can irritate the skin, causing swelling that allows the follicle to open and allow for a hair to get trapped.
  • Before shaving, make sure your skin is wet and try using a moisturizing shaving cream, gel or foam. This helps make the area smooth and easy to glide over!

How can they be treated?

Ingrown hairs can be simple to treat, but if you’re not careful, you put yourself at risk for infection and even scars. If you’re at all hesitant to tend to your ingrown hair yourself, it’s always best to contact your doctor or dermatologist first. Otherwise, there are a few different ways to go about treatment.

Oftentimes an ingrown hair will go away on its own; however, the period of time it takes to go away can vary. According to Dr. Rapaport, an ingrown hair can stick around from anywhere to one to 10 days… or longer, meaning never!

“Sometimes I see an ingrown hair on a patient that has coiled around itself over and over and never actually stopped growing, forming a ball under the skin,” Dr. Rapaport says. She recommends consulting a doctor if the ingrown hair becomes painful, big, red, hard or stubborn.

If this is not the case and the hair is clearly visible, you can remove it yourself. “Use very pointy tweezers and gently lift the hair out through the skin that is covering it,” Dr. Rapaport says. While doing so, try not to pierce the skin too much, as this causes inflammation.

If you try to remove the hair and it’s not coming out, STOP! Dr. Rapaport says you can try again the next day, but do not continue attempting if it’s not releasing. “Be patient and wait for it to grow out itself, which it normally does,” she says.

A lot of times an ingrown hair turns into what looks and feels like a regular pimple and can even be “popped.” Dr. Rapaport explains this as the hair being destroyed by the body, and in its place, a tiny infection or pustule has formed. “It is a bit like a whitehead, but with slightly more infectious contents,” she says. You can choose to pop the bump with your fingers as you would with a normal whitehead. “Once popped, place a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide over it for five minutes, then cover it with polysporin and a Band-Aid,” Dr. Rapaport says.

After either tweezing the hair or popping what used to be the ingrown hair, wait until the next day to see how it’s healed. Dr. Rapaport says if it looks better, let it continue to heal on its own, and if it looks worse, contact your doctor or dermatologist. Dr. Elbuluk says, “Your dermatologist can also recommend a regimen of antibacterial washes and creams that can help calm the inflammation in the area and treat any infection that can be present.”

In order to avoid worsening of ingrown hairs, Dr. Elbuluk recommends avoiding shaving an area that has an ingrown hair. “Shaving could cause increased irritation to the skin and make the ingrown hair worse or possibly cause it to become infected,” she says."

While they may seem like no biggie, ingrown hairs can be extremely tricky, so it’s important to know what you’re dealing with. Even knowing how to shave your legs (and down there!) can make a huge difference in preventing them. Stay healthy, collegiettes!

Bella Hadid Unfollowed Selena Gomez As Soon As Those Makeout Pics with The Weeknd Surfaced

We should've known when photos surfaced yesterday of Selena Gomez and The Weeknd getting hot and heavy outside of a restaurant in Santa Monica that the drama would not be far behind. Bella Hadid, The Weeknd's ex, apparently unfollowed Selena on Instagram shortly after the pics made their rounds on the internet. The unfollowing was confirmed by screenshots, of course. In other words, there are receipts.

Many had hoped that Bella and The Weeknd would try their romance again after Bella walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show while The Weeknd performed on the very same stage. Who could forget when Bella fulfilled everyone's fantasy of looking sexier than ever upon their first encounter with their ex after a breakup?

It appears as though Selena is the only one Bella has beef with, as she still follows The Weeknd on Insta. And Selena is still following Bella.

Come on, ladies—why can't we all just be friends?

Coretta Scott King Wrote a Letter in 1986 Opposing Jeff Sessions’ Federal Judge Nomination, & It is Fire

During his confirmation hearing this week for the position of attorney general, Jeff Sessions tried his best to deny any allegations of racism based on his past actions—even though he was denied a federal judgeship in 1986 due to several racist comments he made. But because it’s incredibly unlikely that Sessions won’t be confirmed due to the majority-Republican Senate, Democrats didn’t push too hard on the issue (with the notable exception of Sen. Cory Booker).

There’s one voice from the past that could seriously undermine Sessions’ claim that he will vigorously promote the rights of all people as attorney general. On Tuesday, BuzzFeed News reported the existence of a letter by Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr., in which she asserted that Sessions’ federal judgeship “simply cannot be allowed to happen.” For some reason, the letter had never been entered into the offical record. The Washington Post published the full nine-page letter on Tuesday evening.

“Mr. Sessions’ conduct as U.S. attorney, from his politically-motivated fraud prosecutions to his indifference toward criminal violations of civil rights laws, indicates that he lacks the temperament, fairness and judgment to be a federal judge,” King wrote.

She discusses Sessions’ approach to a 1984 voting fraud case, in which local black leaders in Perry County, Alabama were prosecuted for fraud, including helping elderly and illiterate residents change their ballots. Many took issue with how Sessions handled the case.

“It is my strongly-held view that the appointment of Jefferson Sessions to the federal bench would irreparably damage the work of my husband, Al Turner, and countless others who risked their lives and freedom over the past twenty years to ensure equal participation in our democratic system,” King wrote.

There isn’t a much more damaging blow to your civil rights credentials than a letter this harsh from a member of the King family. While this letter may not stop Sessions from being confirmed, it should certainly make us watch him closely as he takes the help as attorney general.

‘Rape Melania’ Sign At Anti-Trump Protest May Have Been Planted By Trump Supporters

Back in November, an anti-Trump protest in D.C. became the target of Twitter and media outrage after a picture was tweeted out of one protester holding a “Rape Melania” sign. Some people saw it as a confirmation that the political Left was not so tolerant after all. Others saw the sign as proof that anti-Trumpers were hypocrites whose objections to the president-elect were now meaningless. The image was clear: anti-Trump protesters looked bad.

However, it may have been a Trump supporter standing in the crowd holding the very same “Rape Melania” sign. BuzzFeed News reported on Wednesday that, according to their sources, it was actually Jack Posobiec, one of the organizers of the DeploraBall inauguration party and a Trump supporter, who held the disturbing sign in the crowd as a part of a staged smear campaign by the alternative Right.

Although Posobiec denied his involvement in a phone interview with BuzzFeed, they received some damning evidence against the pro-Trumper from an anonymous source, who happened to collaborate with Posobiec in his scheme. BuzzFeed News also confirmed that the screenshots they viewed were indeed sent from Posobiec’s telephone number.

One screenshot shows Posobiec admitting to starting an “assassinate Trump” chant at an anti-Trump protest. Later that night, he posted a video to Twitter of a protester joining in, yelling “assassinate that nigga," in order to discredit the protests.

Two more screenshots leaked by Posobiec’s collaborator confirmed that Posobiec brainstormed “Rape Melania,” and “infiltrated” the protest with “bad signs” to “discredit them.”

Posobiec later allegedly replied “Woah!” after receiving news that “Rape Melania” was the #3 Trending Topic on Twitter.

This isn’t the first time someone pointed out it may have been a Trump supporter who infiltrated the anti-Trump protest with a “deplorable sign.”

Just days after the “Rape Melania” picture leaked, Dana Fikes, a demonstrator present at the protest, told The Washington Post that she was suspicious of the sign holder’s motives.

“I noticed this sign to the right of where we were standing,” said Fikes to the Post. “He was holding the sign facing away from the crowd and toward his friend, who had a camera. As soon as nearby protesters saw his sign, I saw at least two people go over and talk to him. He rolled up his sign, and he and his friend left.”

The Trump supporter who posted the original “Rape Melania” photos on Twitter, Alan Beck, uploaded a YouTube video during the protest of himself and Posobiec discussing the threatening sign, parked nearby. The 22-minute video was titled, “Anti-Trump Protester Created ‘R4PE MELANIA!’ Sign and The Rest of the Protesters Do Nothing.” Posobiec was wearing a dark-gray hooded sweatshirt—one that’s eerily similar to the sweatshirt that the “Rape Melania” sign holder sported in Beck’s picture.

“Jack's here. He was in the area, and I told him to stop by just to check this out with me,” Beck said in the video. “The guy had left by the time Jack got here.”

How to Revive Dull, Dreary Winter Skin

$

Does winter have your skin feeling dull and dreary? Put an end to dry, lifeless skin and say hello to the healthy skin you had in sunnier days. We talked to Dr. Tony Nakhla, “America’s Dermatologist,” to find the best treatments and products to make your skin beautiful again. With these tips and tricks, your face and body will be glowing in no time.

1. Exfoliate

It's important to exfoliate your skin in order to get rid of any dead skin you may have. This allows the face to reflect more light, which will make it appear brighter.

Exfoliating means using a wash or peel to scrub away dead skin cells. The best way to exfoliate is to rub your skin in circular motions—always do this before moisturizing!

“Gentle exfoliation should be done nightly with either a warm washcloth or a gentle facial brush,” Dr. Nakhla says. “Stronger exfoliation may be done at a professional's office once a month using stronger agents like chemical peels or microdermabrasion.”

Try using bliss’s That’s Incredi-‘Peel’ ($49 at bliss) for a quick and easy way to renew your skin without irritation. Whether you exfoliate at home or get it done by a dermatologist, your smooth, bright skin will have you looking like a whole new woman.

2. Lock in the moisture

Keeping your skin hydrated is crucial, especially in the cooler months. Moisturize your skin in the morning and at night, and dry, flaky skin will be no more.

“Morning moisturizing should be done with an SPF-containing moisturizer,” Dr. Nakhla says. “Nightly moisturizing should be with a moisturizer rich in antioxidants.” Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer ($14.99 at Aveeno) is perfect to even out your skin tone and texture and create a bright, beautiful look. For extremely dry skin, Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream ($14.99 at Aveeno) works while you’re sleeping to revive dull and dreary skin.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day and eating a well-balanced diet will also keep your skin glowing and hydrated from the inside.

3. Brighten it up

Sometimes it feels like no matter how much you exfoliate and moisturize, winter is still taking a toll on your skin. In this case, using a brightening mask could be your solution. For extra hydration and a smooth, bright result, boscia Bright White Mask ($38 at Sephora) is a good choice.

This treatment’s brightening ingredients soothe and hydrate your skin, leaving you with an even, radiant complexion. Advanced whitening ingredients in the mask brighten your complexion and make your skin appear healthy and soft. Some cream masks wash off after 10 to 20 minutes, while sheet masks are filled with serum and cut to shape your face for one-time use. Pampering yourself after a long, work-filled week has never been so easy.

4. Fake it till you make it

Without the summer sun and trips to the beach, our skin may be a bit paler than we’d like. To restore the summer glow you had without the dangerous rays of a tanning bed, use a self-tanner like Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer ($9.99 at Ulta) on your face. This will gradually create a natural-looking tan. To make sure your face matches your body, use a body equivalent such as Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer ($9.99 at Ulta). A little color may be just what you need to brighten up your complexion. You’ll be looking like a beach babe in no time!

5. Cleanse with oil

Washing your face every day is extremely important. During the winter, oil cleansers are super effective because they are gentle and help hydrate your skin. Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil ($25 at Sephora) is a good option. This cleanser can be used on the face and body and removes makeup and other products.

Oil cleansers are great for moisturizing all types of skin; oil dissolves oil. This product will create a whole new you!

6. Use cream-based foundation

Since winter tends to make skin extra dry, ditch your powder foundation for a cream-based one. Powders are more drying and can make your face appear dusty or flaky if your skin isn’t completely hydrated.

“Cream-based foundations may provide better water retention in the skin,” Dr. Nakhla says.

Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($43 at Sephora) is the perfect foundation for any skin type or tone. Its liquid formula will cover imperfections while making your skin appear full and hydrated.

Another problem with using last year’s makeup into the winter is that “old makeup may contain bacteria and expired ingredients that should be discarded,” Dr. Nakhla says. So replace your old makeup for an even better and healthier look!

7. Highlighter is your best friend

If you’re looking for a simple makeup trick that will save your lifeless winter skin, you’re in luck. A highlighting blush like the one from NARS in Albatross ($30 at NARS) is the perfect tool to illuminate your skin and create instant radiance. Simply apply the blush to your cheekbones for a light-reflecting glow and dimension. This will complement sparkly eye shadow perfectly for a night out on the town!

With these treatments and products, your skin will be revived and healthy before you know it. Take care of your skin and find the right tools to help you keep your summer glow all year round. Bye-bye, dull and dreary skin!

5 Times Zayn's Fashion Game Was On Point

Zayn Malik has been killing the game lately. From his hit solo album, Mind of Mine, to his very own collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti, Zayn has definitely made quite a name for himself as a non-band member these past few months. Ever since his 1D days, Zayn has rocked the latest fashion trends and given us some serious eye candy (and menswear style inspo). For his 24th birthday, please enjoy some of the Brit's best looks.

1. Fashion Week Blues

Zayn repped Louis Vuitton head-to-toe in this amazing ensemble during Paris Fashion Week. Rocking a floral bomber while color coordinating is such a major look, and he definitely did it justice. Heart eyes.

2. Metal Meets Tux

Gigi and Zayn totally owned this look at the Met Gala earlier this year. Zayn's simple tuxedo paired with these insane metal arms is crazy to think about in theory, but it sure worked for him!

3. Classic + Edgy

Zayn yet again rocks another amazing hair color, but this time it's pink! Who knew faded pink and a couple of tattoos could elevate such a simple outfit? Zayn, apparently.

4. Textured

Zayn's street style is just as great as his red carpet looks. Pairing an all-black outfit with an intricate pattern in different textures (like silk) is a classic style move and gives off all the right vibes—especially if you're going for more of a comfortable yet sophisticated look like Zayn.

5. Parisian Details

Another swoonworthy PFW outfit! An otherwise simple outfit is taken up a notch with this longline duster jacket featuring a cool collar. #StyleGoals

Happy birthday, Zayn! Keep slaying, bae.

This Woman Was Arrested For a Perpetrating a Rape Fantasy Scheme, But She Was Actually the Victim

If you've ever thought your love life was nuts, you've got nothing on this threesome. In Southern California, a woman was exonerated for charges of responding to “rape fantasy” ads on Craigslist in order to arrange for them to attack her ex-boyfriend’s new wife. Plot twist: It was the other way around. The wife was framing her husband's ex-girlfriend, according to the Associated Press.

The woman who was framed, 30-year-old Susan Michelle Hadley, was “the innocent victim of a diabolical scheme,” Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas said in an announcement.

Angela Marie Diaz, 31, has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and perjury. She is married to Ian Diaz, Hadley's ex-boyfriend. There's no evidence that Ian knew about or was involved in the plot at all.

Diaz had first called the Anaheim police in June, saying various men were arriving at her home to engage in a "rape fantasy." She also called 911 and reported a man attempted to rape her in her garage. Signs of distress such as a reddened neck and ripped shirt seemed to confirm her report, but police now think her report was false.

Hadley was arrested because Diaz told officials that Hadley was threatening to have her raped and to kill her and her unborn child. The charges against her included 10 felonies and possibly life in prison, according to The Los Angeles Times. Prosecutors now allege that Diaz faked the pregnancy.

The case against Hadley collapsed as the authorities discovered the threats and solicitations all came from Diaz, and not Hadley. It turned out Diaz was using special software to make it look like threatening emails were coming from Hadley—but when police uncovered the real IP address from which the emails were sent, they realized they were coming from Diaz's house or her father's house, according to the L.A. Times. This lead to Hadley’s release in October and finally the exoneration of her charges Monday.

"Obviously, this has been a huge nightmare for me, probably the most traumatic experience of my life," Hadley told reporters, according to the AP. "I'm glad it's finally over, and I can move on."

Senate Republicans Just Passed A Bill To Make Repealing Obamacare A Lot Easier

$

Ever since the new, Republican-controlled Congress took control in 2017, they’ve been making major moves to overhaul legislation from the Obama presidency. Just five days into the year, they began the process of dumping Obamacare.

On Thursday, The New York Times reported that Senate Republicans approved a budget blueprint that would give the majority party the power to repeal major sections of the Affordable Care Act, without the possibility of a Democratic filibuster.

“The Obamacare bridge is collapsing, and we’re sending in a rescue team,” said Senator Michael B. Enzi, Republican of Wyoming and the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, to the Times.“Then we’ll build new bridges to better health care, and finally, when these new bridges are finished, we’ll close the old bridge.”

The 51-48 vote, divided starkly across party lines, was marked by an unusual protest by Democrats during roll call. As each stood up, they each voiced their fears and objections to the dumping of the ACA. As Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said, “Health care should not just be for the healthy and wealthy.”

“I think it's important for this country to know this was not a usual thing, this is a day which lays the groundwork for 30 million people to be thrown off their health insurance," Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders told CNN. "And if that happens, many of these people will die."

"We wanted to say no matter how late, we're going to stay and fight and represent our constituents,” said Minority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer. “There are so many constituencies who will be hurt by this repeal without a replace.”

The budget blueprint will soon move to the House, which could vote on it by the end of the week.

During a news conference on Wednesday in New York City, Trump vowed to repeal Obamacare as soon as his nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, Tom Price, is approved. Price has introduced detailed plans in every Congress since 2009 to replace the Affordable Care Act, according to the Times.

"We're going to be submitting, as soon as our secretary's approved, almost simultaneously, shortly thereafter, a plan. It'll be repeal and replace. It will be essentially simultaneously," Trump said during the conference. "Probably the same day, could be the same hour."

With the path to the repeal of Obamacare clear, CNN reports that we can expect a vote on a budget reconciliation bill to happen around February or March. With that will likely come the repeal of major portions of Obamacare.

“This is our opportunity to keep our campaign promise,” said Senator Roger Wicker, Republican of Mississippi, according to the Times. “This is our opportunity to help the president-elect and the vice president-elect keep their campaign promises and show to the American people that elections have consequences.”

'La La Land' Almost Starred A Different Emma

La La Land snagged seven Golden Globes last weekend, including Best Actor and Best Actress statues for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. But that could've turned out much differently if the film had been made with the originally intended cast.

Refinery29 reports that Emma Watson was initially slated to play Mia, Stone's aspiring actress character, and Miles Teller was cast as Sebastian, the jazz pianist portrayed by Gosling.

In an interview with Uproxx, La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle said, “The casting of this movie during the six years it took to get made went through lots of permutations, and it’s true there was a moment where Emma Watson and Miles Teller were doing it. And neither of those casting things wound up lasting or working out.”

Even if Teller and Watson would have killed it as Mia and Sebastian, it’s hard not to love seeing Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone back on-screen together. If you’ve seen the movie you know they are cute af and set to win all kinds of acting accolades this awards season, so it looks like everything worked out as it should!
