7 Sneaky Tricks to Get Yourself to the Gym

Can we be real for a second? Even though exercise is super good for us (it lowers anxiety, boosts self-confidence, improves your health, jump-starts your metabolism, blah blah blah), that doesn’t mean we always enjoy it. In fact, most of the time, it’s just tolerable.

So if you roll your eyes every time you see a picture of a girl mid-treadmill-run with a bouncy (and sweat-free) ponytail, gleaming calf muscles and a grin so wide it looks like she just won the lottery—we get it, because we do, too. Dear fitness model: Your smile is a lie.

But that doesn’t mean we can skip gym time like we skip bad songs on Pandora. So here are the seven sneaky tricks we use to get ourselves to the gym more often. We hope they make the trek easier for you!

1. Use visual reminders

What’s on your phone’s home screen right now? A cute puppy? A picture of you and your friends the last time you went out? Zac Efron? All of those are sure to give you a mood boost (especially Zac), but none will get you on the treadmill. By making your background a shot of your gym or an inspiring quote, every time you use your phone, you’ll receive a subconscious reminder to go. It’s almost like you’re brainwashing yourself to better health.

And if you want to get truly hardcore, use the same technique on your laptop, iPad and e-reader. The possibilities are as endless as your number of devices!

You can also print out inspiring pictures and pin them on your board (the real one, not your Pinterest one) or around your room. This Her Campus article has some great options!

2. Work out for cash

Endorphin rushes are great, but they won’t pay for your textbooks (or adorable sweaters). Earning money for exercising is arguably the best thing ever, and thanks to new apps and sites, you don’t have to be a Biggest Loser contestant to do it.

With Pact, you commit to a certain number of workouts—say, five per week—and get cash rewards for hitting your goals. The money comes from the community pool, so if you don’t make all of your workouts, you have to pay up. Pretty effective motivation, in our opinion! The app is free to download for Apple and Android phones, has a 92 percent success rate and nets most users between $0.30 and $5 a week!

HealthyWage is a cool option for those who want to lose weight. You decide how much you want to lose, how much you want to bet and how long you want to achieve your goal. As your goal and wager go up, so does the amount of money you can potentially make. Sign up for free on the HealthyWage website.

3. Buy cute workout clothes

Wearing new clothes is always fun, right? If you treat yourself a cute pair of leggings or some colorful tops, you’ll be motivated to hit up the rec center so you can luxuriate in that “I just bought this and I look hot” buzz.

There’s affordable workout gear at Target, Old Navy andForever 21. However, don’t feel guilty if you want to splurge!

“I actually spend a little more on workout clothes,” says Kathleen Kalinsky, a senior at James Madison University. “When you invest financially in something, you feel more of a sense of obligation to follow through.”

Those Nike sneakers or lululemon capris are pricey, but they may be worth it if they get you through the gym doors.

4. Follow healthy Instagrammers

Imagine you’re scrolling through your IG feed. You see a funny pic of your friend, Kylie Jenner striking a pose, someone’s froyo creation, a pretty spot on campus… and a girl squatting her heart out. Wow, her butt looks amazing. All of a sudden you’re filled with motivation to go do some strength training of your own.

“I follow a lot of fitness people on Instagram—it’s great motivation,” says Niina Kurki, a sophomore at Vanderbilt University. “For example, I love Kayla Itsines. I’m now doing her 12-week program!”

And since many of us check social media first thing in the a.m., this can be a great way to get yourself up and at ‘em for that morning workout.

“I set my alarm for 5 a.m. during the week so I can hit the gym before classes,” says Haley Cahill, a senior at Appalachian State University. “As soon as I cut my alarm off, I open Instagram and look at motivational fitness accounts like tonedgirls,average2athlete… andashybines. The posts on those accounts get me fired up to hit the gym and complete a killer workout!”

5. Go first thing in the morning

Speaking of rise and grinding, the morning is a great time to hit the gym.

“The second I get home after a day of class, it's practically impossible to get myself to go back out and to the gym,” says Maya Devereaux, a senior at Boston University.

In the morning, it’s super easy to decide that you’re going to hit the gym in the afternoon or at night, but as the hours go by, your professors pile on the assigned reading, your friends text you invites for Starbucks or dinner and your Netflix queue starts to look more and more inviting. Before you know it, you’re changing into some stretchy pants—for sleeping in, not performing cardio. “I’ll go tomorrow,” you think.

If you exercise first thing, however, you won’t be able to use any excuses. And afterwards, you’ll have the whole day for friend dates and Friday Night Lights (oh, and that reading you have to do). Check out our tips for getting in a morning workout.

6. Write out your fitness goals

Why huff and puff on the treadmill for no reason? Exercise has more positive effects than Martha Stewart has kitchenware, but if you don’t establish specifically why you’re doing it, you’ll have a harder time convincing yourself that it’s important.

So write out a list of reasons to go to the gym. Maybe you’re after that post-workout feeling of victory, or you want to de-stress, or you’d love to be able to run four miles without stopping. Maybe you dream of building your biceps, or you want to lose a little weight or simply avoid gaining any in the first place. Maybe you just want to be in good shape!

Once you have a solid set of reasons, you’ll actually want to go so you can achieve progress.

7. Call a friend

It’s pretty easy to blow off the gym when the only thing missing your presence is your fave StairMaster machine. However, when you’re blowing off another person, it’s a whole different story.

“I always make plans to work out in my school's pool with a friend,” says Malone Ryan, a sophomore at John Carroll University. “That way, whenever I am putting off going (which is normally always), I can't back out because I've made a commitment to go with someone.”

Malone says the secret to pulling this off is choosing a friend who loves to work out. If you make plans with someone who’s flaky, there’s no point.

We’re not going to pretend it’s more fun to go to the gym than the movie theater. Or Starbucks. Or your friend’s house. Okay, there are a lot of places more fun to visit. However, we hope that by using these seven tricks, you can get your cute booty to the fitness center more often. We’ll be right there with you, sweating, panting and looking as all-around non-fitness-model as you can get.

5 Bad Bathroom Habits You’re Probably Guilty Of

$

As a collegiette who’s constantly kept busy with responsibilities, when would you have the time to scrutinize your bathroom routine? You wash yourself, brush your teeth and you’re clean -- right? Well, maybe. We rounded up a couple of experts and found there are definitely a few things you might want to rethink about your bathroom routine. If you’re an offender of any of these five common mistakes, you’re probably not being as clean, sanitary and safe as you think (yikes!).

1. Washing with a loofah

Loofahs are great – they come in fun colors, create a rich lather and exfoliate your skin. But are they really getting you clean? Depending on where you store your loofah, they might be doing more harm than good. Dr. Cynthia Bailey, a dermatologist based in Sebastopol, California, explains some of the problems with loofahs. "Loofahs are natural sponges and very porous," Bailey says. "The more porous the item, the slower it will dry." Since most loofahs are either stored in the shower or stuffed inside a caddy, they aren't left in the best environment to completely dry in between each use. "Molds, fungi and bacteria will grow on loofahs and shower sponges that stay damp – guaranteed! It is essential to dry all bath and shower accessories that touch your skin between uses," Bailey says.

Think about it – if your loofah is stuffed at the bottom of your shower caddy, it’s left damp and bunched up, providing the perfect breeding ground for mold and other bacteria. If you leave yours hanging up in a shower, it’s kept in a humid area that doesn’t allow for proper drying, especially in the case that you share that shower with others. If you want to avoid turning your loofah into a petri dish, it's recommended that you take extra care with rinsing and drying it. "Be certain to rinse all accessories well, place them where they will dry quickly and entirely between usages and discard them when they become so worn or layered with product," Bailey says. Your body will thank you!

2. Not drying and cleaning your washcloth properly

If you’re more of the washcloth type, or like to add them to your morning and nightly routine, there still can be some risks that come with not drying them properly. Just as a damp loofah poses risk for mold, a washcloth that stays damp can have the same end result. Whether you use washcloths during your skincare routine or in the shower, you'll also want to make sure that you're washing them properly in addition to drying them entirely between uses. "Bleaching is a good addition to laundering towels, washcloths and other personal care items that may stay damp and harbor pathogenic microbes," Bailey says. If you're a frequent washcloth user and don't use bleach, it might be a good addition to your laundry routine!

3. Sharing makeup and other face products

Maybe you lost your favorite tube of mascara, and your friend offers you hers. Maybe your roomie has the most gorgeous shade of lipstick, and you want to borrow it for a night out. We've all been there! As tempting as sharing makeup with your friends may be, it's not the safest idea when it comes to your health, unfortunately. "All products that touch your skin will pick up skin germs," Bailey says. "25 percent of the entire population carry staph aureus on their skin, around their nose, in skin folds such as armpits and along eyelids." Are you thinking twice about sharing that tube of mascara now? "This bacteria is the same one that can cause skin infections such as impetigo, sties and shaving pimples," Bailey says. "This bacteria can live harmlessly on some people (called colonization) and cause infections in others. The herpes simplex virus is another virus that is contagious, common and a potential infection you can get from sharing products, especially lip products."

No matter how gorgeous that shade of lipstick is, or how much you need mascara, you'll be better off not sharing! Just ask Alice Higginbotham, a junior at Northern Illinois University. "I have really sensitive skin," Alice says. "I've shared my mascara with someone and then when I used it again, my eyelids got super puffy, like an allergic reaction. I don't share eye makeup like that anymore!" Sharing makeup is not the safest, most sanitary thing to do, so save yourself from learning the hard way!

4. Borrowing someone's razor

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but if there's one thing that you really shouldn't borrow from a friend, it's a razor. "Razors cause micro abrasions in skin when used for shaving," Bailey says. "In addition to picking up the skin bacteria, staph aureus and candida yeast, there is the theoretical consideration of spreading germs that can reside in the blood. Just don't ever do it!" Bailey warns. In the event that you run out of razor heads or forget to bring one along on a trip, embrace the stubble or get yourself a new razor!

 5. Keeping your toothbrush near the toilet

Pamela Goecke, a dental hygienist from Illinois, has some very alarming information about toothbrushes that are kept out on the sink near a toilet. “When you flush the toilet with the lid open, the spray from the flush can leave e coli and staph bacteria on and around the brush, making you sick,” Goecke says. "The safest thing to do is to shut your toilet lid before flushing, and keep your toothbrush away from the toilet." After you finish trying not to gag, please go make sure that your toothbrush is stored somewhere safe and far, far away from your toilet, like in a medicine cabinet or a drawer.

Mold, staph aureus and e coli, oh my! No matter how safe and clean you think you may be, it doesn’t hurt to double check your bathroom habits and make some changes where they are necessary!

17 Reasons Why You Insist on Being Antisocial Over Break

Sure, the holidays are a time for giving, but that doesn't mean you need to spend them surrounded by people. It's winter, folks—take advice from some bears and HIBERNATE.

1. You finally have a room all to yourself

You can dance, sing, stay up at all hours WITHOUT DISTURBING ANYONE!

2. Home cooking

Between Christmas and New Year's, your house is filled with the best leftovers known to man. Why leave?

3. Trading in tight skirts and heels for sweatpants and fuzzy socks

Instead of squeezing into your good jeans and freezing all night, you can wear your rattiest sweatpants and an old turtleneck in the privacy of your own home.

4. Nightlife in your hometown is basically two bars that all of your parents' friends go to

Hmm… Do you go to the bar and run into all of your former teachers and old friends, or do you stay home and watch Elf?

5. You just finished the two hardest weeks of your semester

After thinking for 14 days straight, sometimes you just need to scroll on Instagram and zone out.

6. After pulling all-nighters, all you want to do is ptfo for 12 hours

Sweet sleep, I have missed you.

7. You only have two friends at home

Unlike college where you see 15 friends on your way to the bathroom, your home friends are the loyal few who have kept in touch.

8. Family activities

Sorry, friends, but I've got my parents' Christmas party, my dad's side of the family gift exchange, my mom's side of the family dinner, and we gotta get the tree. So I'll pencil you in never.

9. Guilt-free Netflix

Sure, you always make time for Netflix, but it's so much sweeter to binge-watch without sacrificing a homework assignment for it.

10. Seeing people you went to high school with

No small talk is more awkward than the kind you have to make with acquiantainces from high school that you unfollowed on Instagram.

11. It’s COLD

Sorry, there's a 50 percent chance of snow and a 100 percent chance I'm not leaving my house.

12. PETS!

Waited all semester to see them. Why would you ever choose humans over them??

13. Christmas movies!

You guys go ahead. I'm just gonna watch Home Alone with my family for the thousandth time.

14. You don’t want to talk about your major, your love life, the election or your plans after graduation

Seems like all anyone wants to ask college students about is these four topics.

15. Not everything is within walking distance?

At school, all food, fun and resources are a 10-minute walk away. At home, it's holiday traffic and 20 minutes alone in a car.

16. You're broke

If you want to grab dinner with a friend at school, it's bankrolled by your seemingly endless meal plan. Meanwhile, at home things cost ~actual money~ which you have very little of.

17. Because you can

For the first time in four months, there aren't people on top of you at all times. So excuse us while we become hermits for a few weeks… See you in January.

5 Things You're Already Doing That Turn Your Partner On

When you’re in a committed relationship, it is easy to worry that the initial spark that attracted you and your partner to each other might one day burn out. After all, the longer you are with someone, the more comfortable you become. However, there are some things you do without even realizing that can (and probably do) turn your partner on!

We’ve consulted April Masini, a relationship expert, to reveal the truth about keeping the spark alive in a long-term relationship. Read on for five things you’re already doing that turn your partner on.

1. Being true to yourself

In your early 20s, it can be easy to lose sight of who you are sometimes. But, your partner fell for you because of who you are—just simply being yourself is a major turn-on.

“In more mature relationships, there’s usually some things that people look for in a partner—whether it’s lifestyle, career, intelligence, sense of humor and all sorts of other factors,” Masini says. “When they see someone who meets their list of desired qualities, they become attracted because the person is everything they wanted.” Who you are is more than enough, and owning that is incredibly attractive.

2. Having good manners

Manners matter, and being a genuinely good person will always be attractive. No matter how much your partner loves you, nothing will turn him or her off more than seeing you be disrespectful to others.

Masini reiterates this point. “People with good manners will find that their etiquette is a turn on,” she says. “Someone who can be at ease at a ballet, a restaurant where there is fine dining, on a camping trip or staying as a house guest is attractive because they have social intelligence.” Being polite—in all social situations—will never go out of style.

3. Staying informed

When you’ve been with your partner for a long time, an easy way to turn him or her on is to blow his or her mind with your knowledge. There is a whole world around you, and by staying up-to-date on what’s going on, you’ll make your relationship that much stronger and always have something to talk about.

Masini thinks this is a great way to bring something new to the table. “Don’t slack off on being interesting!” she says. “Read, keep up with the news, volunteer, socialize—you’ll be a much better partner if you’re well read and study, work and have interesting friendships to bring to the relationship.” Intelligence is a turn-on no matter how long you’ve been with someone.

4. Being generous

Genuine generosity is such a valuable trait—and something your significant other definitely doesn’t take for granted. “Generosity is underrated and when you find a partner who is generous, you should value that quality in them,” Masini says. Knowing your partner is kind makes them that much more attractive.

Additionally, generosity is healthy for a relationship because it is contagious. “People tend to react to generosity with more generosity!” Masini adds. Kindness helps you both (and your relationship) grow. This generoisty extends farther than simply having manners. Going out of your way for someone else, being kind to others and living a happy life are all traits that your partner will find extremely beautiful.

5. Maintaining your health

It might seem easy to let yourself go in a long-term relationship, but Masini recommends against it. “Remember who you were, what you looked like and how you acted when you were first dating,” she says. “That’s what you want to [continue to] evoke in a long-term relationship.” She recommends going to the gym and dressing in a way your partner likes, while staying true to yourself.

You should never change who you are for your partner, but continue to work toward being the best—and healthiest—version of yourself. Feeling good about yourself makes you radiate confidence, and that alone is incredibly attractive.

No matter how long you’ve been with your significant other, there are certain things about you that will always turn him or her on. Be generous, be confident, be informed, but most importantly be yourself—and never forget, your partner loves you for who you are!

15 Signs You're Really Taking Advantage of This Whole Winter Break Thing

There's nothing like kicking back, relaxing and maxing all cool after a strenuous semester. Even though spring semester, internships, work and a whole blizzard of reponsibilities are just around the corner, now is the time to enjoy winter break. For some, this means sipping on cocoa by the fire and reflecting on a year of blessings. For others, this is YOUR time. Roll out the red carpet and sound the trumpets. The queens of the castle are home and ready to really take advantage of winter break.

1. The pants are OFF.

Egg(nog)'s out, legs out! Am I right?

2. Every day is "groutfit" day.

Blazers and blouses are a thing of the past. Wear clothes considered acceptable in the public eye? No, thank you.

3. Your couch is custom fit.

The sofa is basically memory-foam now. There was a time when you moved…to plug your phone charger into the wall.

4. Writing feels like a foreign ritual.

You haven't taken notes in weeks, and the fact that your handwriting looks like a kindergartener found a pen after drinking four espressos just confirms that. Who knew adding to the grocery list could be an advanced exercise?

5. Your Pinterest game is too strong.

Martha Stewart would be proud. With all this extra time on your hands, getting crafty has never been easier! Or at least planning to be crafty…

6. You have on-call service for your favorite foods.

Dining halls are out of sight and out of mind. Being home for the holidays means enduring a marathon of your favorite foods. Mother, room service! (Okay, maybe not to that extent.)

7. You've got the power.

Remote control? Yours. Right to cuddling the dog? Yours. First dibs on the car? Yours. Your siblings are still in high school. They don't understand the struggle of inaccessibility.

8. Becoming a recluse never felt so right.

Immediately after catching up with your hometown friends and childhood besties, the transformation commenced. You are now a makeup-less creature, most likely nesting in the dark with a Snuggie.

9. Every day is a spa day.

All those lotions and facial samples from Sephora are finally getting their time in the sun. Hour-long showers are the norm. Winter break isn't exactly primetime for being eco-friendly.

10. Doing laundry is out of the question.

You don't care who does it, but it sure as heck is not going to be you.

11. You're a film and television connoisseur.

Netflix, Hulu, OnDemand…the capactiy for binge watching is never-ending. And you will watch it all.

12. You don't remember what chores are.

How do the dishes get from the sink to the shelves? Where does all the dust go? Who tidies the living room? Mice? You're far too busy avoiding all responsibilities to actually figure it out.

13. You smell like a Christmas cookie candle.

The oven is a nonstop cookie sheet station and the only destination is your mouth.

14. Social media is your only connection to the outside world.

Your thumbs are in the early stages of arthritis from all the scrolling.

15. You miss school…kind of.

Relaxing 24/7 is fantastic and all, but you can't wait to get back to the grind. Until then, bring on the sweatpants and holiday leftovers!

5 Ways to Handle Workplace Conflict

$
0
0

Work is a social environment like any other, and any office is going to bring together a diverse collection of personalities and people. Even if you’re on your best behavior, chances are you’re going to conflict with someone along the way. But we’re all adults here, so it’s important to be mindful of a few things when trying to work out your differences.

1. Be the bigger person

It can be hard to back down from a fight (especially when you’re sure you’re in the right!) but sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and ask yourself if stirring up conflict is really worth it. This isn’t always easy; after all, sometimes a co-worker is just spoiling for an argument. Alex Cameron, a graduate student at Emerson College with several retail jobs under her belt, says she once had a co-worker who constantly complained that she was being forced to do more work than everyone else, even though that was far from true. The only way to keep things civil was to avoid rising to the bait. “If you said anything,” Alex says, “it only prolonged her anger.” Usually, once the co-worker had exhausted her complaints, “she realized she was being ridiculous and apologized.”

It’s always best to try to keep the peace. You never know what’s going on in a co-worker’s life that is making them unhappy and it’s never a good idea to get into an argument just to work out your own frustrations, either. You’ll probably end up doing more damage than either of you ever intended.

Related: 4 Tips for Handling Disagreements at Work the Professional Way

2. Politely tackle the issue head-on

Avoiding conflict can be appealing, but sometimes walking away from the problem only makes things worse. If these issues don’t seem to be solving themselves, it’s probably time to talk things out. It’s important, though, not to go in with a fight in mind. Approach your co-worker in a neutral or private place-somewhere where you won’t draw the attention of the whole office-and ask if she’s got time to try and resolve things. Even invite her out for coffee, if you feel like that would be appropriate. Make sure to demonstrate that you’re ready and willing to talk things through.

Then comes the hard part: actually talking things through. Jamie Broder, an attorney and mediator with a background in resolving workplace conflicts, advises that, right at the start, “Each co-worker should identify the points of contention between them.” Even if you disagree with the points that the other person is making, it’s important to listen to her grievances. Otherwise, how will you ever take steps to work things out?

3. Don’t talk about your co-worker behind her back

Workplace conflict is stressful and it’s normal to want to vent your feelings. But keep that venting out of the workplace. Things only get worse when you share your frustrations with other co-workers, regardless of whether or not they agree with your point of view. Any office needs to run smoothly and it can’t really do that when everyone is talking trash behind someone’s back. And it will only make things worse when you finally try to resolve the issue with the co-worker in question—you don’t want to add malicious gossip to her list of grievances!

If you do need to talk things through with someone else, stick with family members or friends who don’t work in the same office. Moderation is key, though. You don’t want to complain so much about your workplace drama that the people who care about you can’t stand to listen anymore.

4. When in doubt, appeal to a neutral party

Okay, so maybe you’ve tried sitting down for coffee or just a conversation with the person you’re butting heads with and the two of you just can’t manage to see eye to eye. It’s never a good feeling to take your problems to another person, but if you and your co-worker can’t talk out your issues on your own, you might want another person’s input. The two people involved in the dispute “should choose a trusted and neutral mutual friend or co-worker to facilitate their discussion if necessary,” Broder says. “In a larger company that has a Human Resources department or group, there might be someone who could help.”

Stay away from turning to your boss, though. They’re less interested in your personal problems and more concerned with how employees are working together. Or, as Broder puts it, “In most cases, a supervisor would not be ideal because supervisors evaluate employees on a whole host of factors which likely include their ability to get along with others in the organization.” So even if you are completely blameless in the whole thing, you probably won’t come out looking great if you drag your supervisor into the conflict with you.

Related: 7 Things College Grads Wish They Knew Before Entering the Workforce

5. Make sure the conflict is actually resolved

All this work is going to be for nothing if everyone walks away without having actually gotten to the root of the issue. In order to avoid this, Broder suggests that “co-workers should discuss each point of contention seriously and respectfully and try to reach compromises to resolve each of them.” Treating every one of your co-worker’s issues as a valid concern is central to solving the problem. Is she saying that you didn’t pull your weight during a joint project? Or complaining that you fail to respond to emails in a timely manner? It helps no one if you just try to deny the accusations without giving them a second thought. So even if you disagree, take some time to think about whether or not you can work a little harder in the future. If you’re willing to listen to your co-worker’s issues, she will probably be willing to do the same for you.

Of course, it’s important not to just roll over in the hopes of getting things resolved quickly. But it’s equally necessary to compromise when the situation calls for it. Putting in the hard work now will save you—and your co-worker—a lot of headaches down the road.

Kylie Jenner Bares All in This Sexy Video with Tyga

In the past three years, Kylie Jenner has reminded us that while she might be the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner family, she’s definitely not a little girl anymore.

Jenner, the mind behind a rising cosmetics empire, just gave fans a steamy gift to wrap up the holiday season. A sexy short film featuring Jenner and her boyfriend Tyga dropped on Christmas Day as a “little surprise gift for the world.”

In the video, Jenner strips down and makes sure to give us total body inspo along the way. From wearing nothing at all and smoking a cigarette to seductively posing in the shower with Tyga while wearing only a T-shirt, Jenner shows off her curves and her radiating confidence.

Director Sasha Samsonova describes the film as giving off the vibe that “you’re watching this person from a point of view that has never been seen before.” Jenner and Samsonova have worked together for years and really wanted this surprise video to display a “very personal experience.”

While the video definitely shows us another side of Kylie, it also seems to radiate class. We think this is a great way for Kylie to really announce herself to the world, and we're really proud of Kylie for owning her sexuality!

Okay, we’d be lying if we said we haven’t always been rooting for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth to finally get their happily ever after.

The adorable couple, who reunited this year (one good thing that happened in 2016), spent Christmas together and melted our hearts in the process. Thankfully for us, they shared some pictures from their festivities on Instagram, and trust us, fans went wild.

It was a monumental holiday for the pair as they celebrated their first Christmas as a “fam,” cuddled up with their rescue pup Dora. (We’re crying.)

Miley even dubbed Liam the “#bestpresentwrappereva” while the pair wore reindeer antlers. Talk about goals.

5 Little Ways to Show You’re Into Him

Imagine this: You meet a cute guy. After talking to him and getting to know him, you realize how much you really like him. How do you make him aware of your feelings without coming out and saying, “I like you”? Dropping hints could be the best way of showing how you feel before you consider asking him out.

You want to set yourself apart from the rest of his girl friends and make sure you don’t fall quickly into the friend zone when hanging out. Show him how you feel with these easy ideas!

1. Send a “good luck” text

We all know how stressful a huge exam can be and how sweet it is to have someone wish you good luck. A good way to get you on his mind early on is shooting him a “Good luck today!” text before a test. It’s a small but effective way of showing you care about him.

“The easiest way I can let a guy know I’m thinking about him is showing that I care about the small stuff,” says Christina Lin, a junior at Providence College. “Even if we don’t text throughout the day, letting him know he’s on my mind in such a subtle way is always a good idea.”

A bonus to texting him is that it sets up opportunity later on for him to text you about how the exam went. It may seem like a small step, but it’s significant enough to slowly get you closer to him.

2. Deliver his favorite coffee order to the library

If at some point in a conversation he told you he’s posting up in the library and getting to work, take advantage of this opportunity to further show you care.

In your conversation, text him and ask if he needs some fuel for studying. Take a pit stop at the coffee place on campus and grab both of you something to drink. Drop by the library and tell him you wanted to drop it off before he got to studying all day so you could see him and say, “Hi!”

3. Invite him on a double date

If you’re too nervous to ask him on a one-on-one date, use your roommate and her SO as a good excuse to go out. Tell him they want to see that new movie that just came out and they invited you along. You didn’t want to go alone and thought he’d be perfect company to ease the third-wheel pain.

Something casual like an on-campus date or movie is the perfect time to show him you like him. While your roomie and her SO are snuggling in the theater, it gives you two time to be alone without the pressure or nerves of a one-on-one date.

4. Show him your favorite show

Show him your favorite things so you can get to know each other better. Invite him over to watch the first episode of your favorite series with you.

Let him know that because he liked The Walking Dead so much, he’d probably like American Horror Story, too. Combining your interests helps you two bond over something new you can talk about.

5. Send him a Spotify playlist

There was nothing cuter than making mix CDs for the guy you liked back in high school. Considering not many people do that anymore, a Spotify playlist of songs you think he’d like is the mix CD of 2015!

“I had a major crush on this music buff guy, and we always talked about [what music] we were loving at the moment,” says Shannon Mooney, a junior at the University of New Hampshire. “I told him to listen to my new favorite band and made him a playlist of their album and some other songs like it.”

Assuming you've known him for a while now, you’ve probably talked about your favorite music before. Not only that, but Spotify lets you see what your friends are listening to, so it’ll give you an even better reason to let him know the playlist is something you think he’d be interested in.

It might be hard to figure out if he’s flirting with you, so making a move to show him you’re into him is the way to go. Use these little ways to show that special guy you like him without putting too much pressure on yourself!

Taylor Swift Dropped By This 96-Year-Old Fan's Family Christmas Party to Surprise Him

Throughout the years, Taylor Swift has proved that she's one of the most kindhearted, generous celebrities. Aside from donating to multiple charities, Taylor has also surprised fans with gifts and the opportunity to hang out with her. Remember her top-secret 1989 listening sessions where she invited fans into her home? NBD.

In the spirit of the holidays, Taylor made a 96-year-old fan's dream come true when she stopped by his Christmas party.

In a previous interview, Cyrus Porter told a news station that he's been to two of Taylor's shows—and he's got plenty of concert merchandise and photos to prove it. Considering that Cyrus has been an avid fan of Taylor for years, you can imagine how excited he was when one of his favorite singers took time out of her holiday festivities to visit him.

It all started when Taylor showed up at Cyrus' New Madrid, MO home. Needless to say, screams ensued from Cyrus' 20+ grandchildren and his other relatives.

During her visit, Taylor took tons of photos with Cyrus. If that's not the smile of a fan who's having the best day ever, I don't know what is.

She also engaged in the cutest "Shake It Off" sing-along with Cyrus and his family.

And Cyrus gave Tay a tour of his home, proudly showing her his WWII memories.

But the cuteness didn't stop there.

I think it's safe to say that this was a Christmas celebration Cyrus will never forget.

Demi Lovato Kind Of Predicted Camila Cabello's Solo Career Years Ago

When it was announced that Camila Cabello was leaving Fifth Harmony to presumably go solo, many fans felt blindsided and even betrayed by the news. Things got even messier when Camila fired back at the group's claims about her departure. When Fifth Harmony responded to Camila's statement, Harmonizers had no idea who to believe. Amidst all the drama, one person who probably didn't find Camila's 5H exit to be shocking is Demi Lovato—who sort of called it years ago.

If you've been a Harmonizer from the start, then you remember Fifth Harmony's start in the music industry was a result of The X Factor. During season two of the singing competition, the girls settled on group names like LYLAS and 1432, before becoming Fifth Harmony. Considering that Demi Lovato was a judge for that season and worked closely with Fifth Harmony, it's no surprise that she basically predicted Camila's future solo career.

During an episode of The X Factor, the girls performed Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Critiquing their performance, Demi said that she saw extreme potential for one girl in particular.

"The thing is, I know you guys have potential because I saw your performance at the judges' homes, and that's when you guys really shined," she says. "But I feel like tonight, there was only person that really shined and it really didn't click for me tonight. I want to see you guys click. I think you need more practice together. You need to come out of your shell a little bit. Right now, there's only one person doing it for me."

When asked who was the one girl that clicked, Demi played coy before finally pointing to Camila. "I think you guys should all learn something from her."

Given Demi's relationship with the girls, fans have been hoping that she can salvage what's left of Fifth Harmony. Although Demi hasn't commented on the split, I have a feeling she's probably saying "I told you" wherever she is right now.

10 Ways Carrie Fisher Made an Impact On- & Off-Screen

2016 has arguably been one of the worst years, and the loss of Carrie Fisher just adds to the growing list of reasons why. Over the course of several decades, Carrie became one of Hollywood's most iconic actresses, most notably for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. In addition to her part in the massive franchise, there are plently of other on-screen and off-screen reasons why Carrie will be dearly missed.

1. Carrie spoke openly about her mental health struggles

2. She wasn't afraid to tackle body-shaming trolls.

3. Even when guest-starring on programs like 30 Rock, she still stole the show.

4. The impact of Princess Leia's signature buns extended to her daughter, Billie Lourd, who decided that her Scream Queens character should wear earmuffs as a nod to her family's legacy.

5. In her 1987 book titled Postcards From the Edge, Carrie allowed herself to be vulnerable by providing detailed accounts of her drug addiction. The book was later adapted into a movie with the same name.

6. Carrie also gave fans an in-depth look at her time on the set of her films in her most recent book, The Princess Diarist.

7. Let's not forget that she had no problem sassing interviewers.

8. Her sense of humor was reflected not only in her acting roles and interviews, but also through her tweets.

9. When she felt that her Star Wars character needed some changes, she altered her script accordingly.

10. She also refused to get paid for her role in a movie, instead requesting payment in the form of two large, beaver chairs.

The Princess stole my heart at age 7. Anybody who knows me knows #CarrieFisher was my first love. I thrilled to the adventures of #princessleia in the @starwars movies, but from '77 to '84, I was in love with Carrie Fisher herself. My bedroom was filled with Carrie Fisher pictures from any movie she was ever in (including Polaroids I took off the TV when #thebluesbrothers hit cable). I was jealous of Paul Simon when he was dating Carrie Fisher and wouldn't listen to his music until they split up. I paid to see Carrie Fisher and #chevychase in Under the Rainbow nine times when it was in theaters (mostly because Carrie Fisher was in underwear in one scene). In childhood, I committed myself to Carrie Fisher without ever meeting her the way novice Nuns commit themselves to Christ without meeting Him. Decades later, I got to tell her this when Carrie Fisher and @jaymewes were in a station wagon on the set of #jayandsilentbobstrikeback. She was gracious about hearing it for the zillionth time from the zillionth man or woman who grew up idolizing her, but wickedly added "I'm glad to know I helped you find your light saber." And with that, she stopped being Carrie Fisher to me and just became Carrie. That's the Carrie I'll always remember: the dutiful standard-bearer of childhood dreams with a the wicked sense of humor and a way with words. She didn't want to get paid for her role in @jayandsilentbob Strike Back; instead, she asked that we buy her these antique beaver chairs. Her reason: "Beaver seems an appropriate currency for this movie." When she was a guest on Season 1 of our @hulu show #Spoilers, Carrie curled up in the throne like she belonged there. And she did: after all, she was royalty. As a boy, I dreamed of marrying Carrie Fisher. As a young filmmaker, I dreamed of casting Carrie Fisher. As an adult, I dreamed of being as sharp-witted and prepossessed as Carrie Fisher. And now that Carrie Fisher is gone, I'll dream of my friend Carrie - whose entire magnificent career I was lucky enough to witness, whose honesty made me a better person, and whose spirit - like The Force - will be with us always. Goodnight, Sweet Princess...

Regardless of what people said about her, Carrie was always herself—eccentric, empowering, creative and inspiring.

After dating Morgan Evans for over nine months, Kelsea Ballerini is now engaged! The two have been serving up couple goals since they confirmed their relationship. Taking to Instagram, the country music star gave fans all the details on the adorable proposal.

It all started when Kelsea and Morgan met at the Country Music Channel Awards back in March. The chemistry was simply undeniable.

According to Kelsea, Morgan popped the question Christmas morning, as she was in the process of burning breakfast.

Morgan also posted the same photo on Instagram, along with the caption, "When you know, you know ... she's perfect. #ultimatedibs."

The cuteness factor is basically off the charts right now. And I'm officially obsessed with Kelsea's engagement ring and mug.

Here's the Best Makeup for Your Eye Shape & Color

The holidays are fast approaching, meaning that parties, family gatherings and group outings are also around the corner. But what’s worse than not having anything to wear for these occasions? Having makeup that doesn’t suit your face. While makeup doesn’t need to be the end-all, be-all, it’s a staple part of the holiday season, and a fun opportunity to get fancier than your everyday routine. But it’s insanely important to get the right hues for eye color and eye shape, as well as to make sure you’re accentuating the correct parts of the eye while making them pop at the same time. There's a lot more to it than you thought, huh? So we asked some expert makeup artists, as well as some collegiettes, to get you the best tips to 'sleigh'  this holiday season.

Colors

Brown Eyes

It’s a common mistake for those with brown eyes to wear browns or darker, natural colors. But venturing out of your comfort zone is a must for a one-of-a-kind, amazing look. “[Wearing colors, other than brown] allows the eye color to stand out,” says Margina Dennis, a makeup artist and educator who has done looks for celebrities including Lea Michele and Jane Lynch.

For some specific colors to try, makeup artist Ashlee Glazer suggests Smith & Cult’s Book of Eyes Eye Quad in Interlewd. This palette offers colors that are in the purple family, but Glazer also suggest navy as a great color for brown eyes. “Navy also enhances the white and accentuates the brown of your eyes,” says Glazer, who appeared on The Today Show this past summer with her great beauty tips!

Jenna Adrian, a junior at Drexel University, is a brown-eyed girl. “For girls with brown eyes, the Lorac Pro palette is great because it's full of warmer toned shadows that bring out the warmth in brown eyes,” she says. Having a wide range of colors to choose from also helps you out when trying not to clash with your outfit.

Blue Eyes

What’s the trick to making blue eyes pop? Browns! “Brown hues will make blue eye appear brighter,” says Dennis. “Greys can work on a fairer skin with cool undertones as well if the grey has more of a blue undertone to it.”

Try to avoid going too dark if you have a cooler blue eye color. Light champagne colors or pinks are perfect because they won't draw too much away from your lighter eyes.

Glazer also suggests a palette like Smith & Cult’s Book of Eyes Eye Quad in Noonsuite. “[This] is gorgeous for blue eyes," she says. "The copper/rust and gold undertones truly make your baby blues stand out.” Your blue eyes will have a nice “peek-a-boo” moment when looking up from under gold and bronze lids.

Green Eyes

Green eyes are pretty versatile, allowing a slew of colors to go well with them. “Plums, purple, and browns with a cooler, red undertone will help to bring them out,” says Dennis.

If you feel like you’re having too much trouble picking out individual colors that go with your eye color, makeup companies usually have palettes made specifically for your color! “NYC and probably most major brands created palettes that were designed for specific eye colors!” says Samantha Burke, recent graduate of Siena College. “I have green eyes, and I love using purple shadow and liner. It really makes the green pop.”

Glazer seconds this pairing of purple hues and green eyes! “Super sophisticated and universally flattering, plums and mauves (especially ones with red or brick undertones) contrast gorgeously with green eyes to make them pop.” The best palettes for this look would be the same Smith & Cult’s Book of Eyes suggested for the brown eyes (Interlewd) or the New York Colors IndividualEyes palette Burke mentioned above.

Hazel Eyes

For those who have hazel eyes, you know that your eyes have so many different colors within them. And one of the best parts about hazel eyes is that no two pairs looks the same. So for this color, it’s best to know how your own eyes look. “Focus on what color you want to bring out in the hazel, whether it is the green or blue [or another color] and follow the suggestions [for that color],” says Dennis.

Having relatively versatile eyes is great because it is harder to go wrong. However, for specific colors Glazer has some ideas. “On hazel eyes, Smith & Cult’s Book of Eyes Eye Quad in Soft Shock has strong colors [and] shades like silver, black and olive that use dark shimmery tones to really emphasize all the different colors in the iris.” The olive would be great for a more everyday look, and then add a smoky edge with the black color. And who could ever go wrong with some silver? No one, that’s who.

Gray Eyes

Unlike with brown eyes, gray eyes can stand alone with a shadow of a similar hue. “On gray eyes, I love how Smith & Cult’s Book of Eyes Eye Quad in Mannequin Moves contains lots of neutral browns and greys,” says Glazer. “There is a beautiful pink pearl shimmer that is lovely when applied all over the lid.” She also suggests top off the look with a defined eyeliner in a dark gray color as well, like the b-line eye pen from Smith & Cult or the Sketch Marker Liquid Eyeliner from Too Faced.

Shapes

Deep set

Deep-set eyes have many characteristics that put them apart from the rest, one being a prominent brow bone. To really compliment these eyes, Glazer suggests drawing attention to the center and working your way out. “On deep set eyes, I recommend a pop of shimmer in the center, and to only darken the outer corners,” says Glazer.

Dennis also suggests a technique like this, but instead of a shimmer, she says you can just use a lighter color. “Use a lighter lid color or one that is closer tonally to the skin tone and then apply a darker color slightly above the crease area to create the illusion of depth,” she says.

Dennis also emphasizes that importance of blending! “Blend your eyeshadow edges, it creates a finished look to your application,” says Dennis. And don’t let that full brow bone fool you! “Also a brow that is slightly fuller it more youthful looking, but you go overboard on filling them because it will give the exact opposite effect,” Dennis adds. Nice and natural is hardly ever a bad thing.

Monolid

The definition of a monolid is just that: there is really no crease to the eye shape and has a less defined brow bone. However, the canvas made by having “one” lid is great for many looks. “A single mid tone color across the lid blend toward the brow bone works best with emphasis on eyeliner at the lash line and lots of mascara,” says Dennis. ”It helps to open the eyes up.”

Glazer adds, “For a monolid, a soft smoky blend all over the eyelid is beautiful.” For those that don’t want to just “open” up the eye, this smoky look would be even more dramatic.

Hooded

Hooded eyes have a brow bone that drops over the crease, hiding the lid. Since this part of the eye is hidden, you need to find other areas to accentuate instead. “A light highlight under the brow bone to give the appearance of a lift works well on a hooded eye,” says Glazer.

Dennis advises using a brighter color on the lid. “I like to use a satin or even a color with a bit of shimmer,” says Dennis. “I put the emphasis on the liner around the eye to give it definition and also mascara.” This contouring of the lid is great for definition on an eye shape that can possibly be hard to make look more dimensional.

Round

Round eyes are, obviously, more round-looking than other shapes. A big characteristic is the fact that more of the whites of the eyes are showing. These eyes look bigger and also have an “awake” to them, according to some makeup artists. But if you don’t like the wide-eyed look you may have, Dennis has a suggestion. “If you want to make the eyes look smaller, lining top and bottom and also lining the inner eye top and bottom with a dark liner and help create the illusion of a smaller eye,” says Dennis. However, if you really want to play up those big eyes, you can make them look even more open by getting a thick white, eyeliner, like the Jumbo Eye Pencil from NYX, and use it on your waterline. This extends the whites of your eyes, giving a bigger, doe-eyed look.

In terms of eyeshadow placement, it’s best to focus your makeup on your top lid and lash line. For your lower lash line, again, go with something like the white eyeliner or use a taupe or beige color for a little less extreme look. And just like with anything else, a smoky eye can take your look from “cute” to “sexy” in no time.

Downturned

Downturned eyes curve, you guessed it, down. Some may say these eyes look “sad” however, that’s just not true. “The key is to give the illusion that the eye isn't downturned,” says Dennis. “I like to not extend any shadow past the outer edge of the eye and all shadow, liner, [and other eye makeup] turn be applied in an upward fashion. I'll even usually cheat the liner slightly on the eye and make it thicker towards the outer part of the eye”

A very popular eyeliner trend for a downturned eye is the cat eye. “Cat eye, without much liner on the bottom, lifts a downturned eye,” says Glazer.
And if you have the opposite ‘upturned’ eye shape? Dennis says: “An upturned eye is youthful.” And while that may be true, the best way to play up that eye is with a straight wing liner, according to Glazer. “[It] looks great on an upturned eye,” says Glazer.

Almond

Eyes that are a little less round and more almond-shaped are super versatile with a lot of looks. They are also super symmetrical. “[They are] what most people strive for, so have fun!” says Dennis. And although almond-shaped eyes are easier to style than others, one trend does look better than the rest. “Smokey, blown out shadows are gorgeous on almond eyes,” says Glazer. If that doesn’t say dramatic, nothing does!

Even if you have the best makeup or an easy eye-shape like an almond-shape, Glazer does stress the importance of good brushes. “I think it is important to invest in good brushes and prep your lids before applying makeup,” says Glazer. Even if an eyeshadow has built-in primer, it’s always a good idea to use a separate one beforehand. Glazer says that a translucent powder over the eyelids also helps create a smooth foundation for your color.

Hopefully these tips and tricks get you through the holidays and beyond! Remember that makeup isn’t necessary, but if you’re going to indulge in it, might as well do it correctly!

9 Flawless Beyonce Outfits You Can Totally Copy

Between her time spent as a 20-time Grammy-winning artist and loving mother of Blue Ivy, Beyoncé Knowles inspires all of us with her hip and straight up ***flawless sense of style. Luckily for you, we have nine ideas of how you can copy Queen Bey's fashion choices with non-designer items.

1. Street Stylin'

Beyoncé is rocking this textured, edgy look. You can find a button-up wine leather mini skirt at Forever 21 ($19.90). The store also sells this white cropped crew neck sweater for $15.90, which is a simple alternative to Beyoncé's cozy striped knit top. Finish it off with your favorite sleek white jacket.

2. Red Carpet-Ready

Bey's red carpet look pairs a low-cut mauve dress with a matching fur stole. Get the style with a $24.90 V-neck romper from Forever 21 or the Plus Size Surplice romper for the same price. Drape Nordstrom's $19.49 burgundy faux fur stole over your shoulders, pick out some statement jewelry, and complete the ensemble with a high pony and light pink lipstick for a fancy night out.

3. Ivy Park Athleisure

Of course, the best way to dress like Queen Bey is by sporting the brand she co-founded: Ivy Park. Available at TOPSHOP, you can get your hands on this exact same Chenille Logo Boxy Crop Tee for $42. The camo colorblock leggings will set you back $50.

4. Rocker Chic(k)

What's trendier than meshing fashion with a classic English rock band? Beyoncé sported the Led Zeppelin Inglewood June 1977 Concert T-Shirt, which you can look for on Ebay or Etsy, but if you want retail, look no further than Target or JC Penney to get other Led Zeppelin tees for less than $15. Complete the look with a slit leather mini skirt from Forever 21 ($17.90).

5. Concert Angel

Beyoncé is totally ~fierce~ in her lace onesie and gold lace-up heels. Boohoo has a similar classy lace bodysuit for $24. You can copy the metallic boots at ASOS ($64). Don't forget the red nails and nude fishnets! A gentle breeze will take care of the wind-swept hair look for you.

6. Neon Barbie

The Lemonade singer is ready to take on the city with her boldness. You can likely recreate the look with items in your closet—pair bright stilettos and matching shorts with a fitted neon long-sleeved cotton top. Try a turquoise faux leather handbag from Macy's and matching gemstone earrings to finish off the Barbie-esque outfit.

7. Team USA

Beyoncé is ready for the 4th of July in this retro denim outfit. Tuck a white tee into high-waisted frayed jean shorts and place a lightweight denim jacket on top (she even rolls up a sleeve because ~casual trendy~). Tie a patterned flannel ($14.99 at H&M) around your waist to give the ensemble a country vibe perfect for summer fairgrounds, 'Merica barbecues and firework celebrations. To mimic Bey's sleekness, add a black bag and dark shades.

8. Casual City Summer

While out in Midtown Manhattan with husband Jay-Z, Beyoncé used her shirt to display a positive message: "Never Forget To Say Thank You" ($23.99 at High Kee Tees). She tucked the tank into ripped ankle jeans, while also wearing yellow strappy sandals, a vintage magazine clutch and sunnies. Choose your go-to colorful sandals, pair of trendy jeans and whimsical purse on a summer day.

9. Woman on a Mission

Miss Knowles' iconic Lemonade getup features a ruffed mustard chiffon dress and polka dot platform shoes (and who could forget the ultimate accessory—the baseball bat). While we collegiettes can never quite live up to Beyoncé's fashion flair, I was inspired by Lemonade to find this mustard draping gown ($46.90 at Windsor) and corresponding black and white dotted heels ($14.99 at Lollicouture), just in case you want to channel your inner scorned woman.
