12 Easy Ways to Burn 200 Calories (Without Exercising!)

Spontaneous late-night snack runs, conversations over lattes and free food at events are as much a part of college life as essays, books and exams. But with those activities come extra calories that certainly have a way of sneaking up on you! If you find yourself a culprit of frequent snacking and want to work off those extra calories but don't have time to fit in a real workout, check out these 12 clever ways to burn 200 calories. And the best part is, you don't even have to enter the gym!

1. Walk or bike everywhere

Let's admit it—we've all been tempted to drive to places that we could easily walk to, whether it's classes or the library or the nearest grocery store. Melanie Ludwig, owner of Prestige Fitness, also suggests walking a lap around the buildings that you have classes in before class starts. For a 150-pound collegiette, walking for 40 minutes at a pace of three miles per hour burns 200 calories. Calculate how many calories you burn from walking here!

If walking isn't your thing, biking for 23 minutes can also burn 200 calories. Not really into pedaling? Try rollerblading, riding a scooter or getting off the bus early to walk to class. These little decisions can accumulate and make a huge difference for your health!

2. Have a stair-ing contest

Don't think we've forgotten about those dreaded stairs! We all know it's a no-brainer to take the stairs instead of the elevator, but sometimes we can’t help avoiding and hating on the stairs, especially when we have to lug around our own body weight in textbooks on a daily basis. But if you choose the stairs every day, your body will thank you in the long run. After all, a 150 to 160-pound person can burn 10 calories every minute she climbs stairs. That means that only 20 minutes of climbing a day will burn 200 calories!

3. Exercise while studying

It's really easy to stay in one place for hours on end when you have reading to do or an exam to study for. But it isn't good for your health, because as soon as you sit down, calorie burning drops down to one calorie per minute and enzymes that help break down fat drop by 90 percent.

"We are made to locomote, and inactivity leads to poor health," Ludwig says. To increase activity, Ludwig suggests sneaking in movement while you are otherwise preoccupied. "Have a lot of reading to do? Do it on a recumbent bike at a low resistance so that it's easy [and] your reading or studying is all you think about," Ludwig says. "I don't suggest this on a treadmill or elliptical as it is harder to balance, but you can try."

For a 150-pound collegiette, only 26 minutes on a recumbent bike, 26 minutes on an elliptical trainer at a moderate pace or walking on a treadmill at three miles per hour for 56 minutes will burn 200 calories. And you'll get your work done, too! If you don't have access to any of these exercise machines, check out these other exercises that you can do at your desk. Talk about multitasking!

4. Do your chores

For most of us, the early morning rush to class means that your bed is left unmade and your clothes are scattered around your room. And everything tends to stay that way—it's easy to leave chores to a (way) later date when your mom isn't there to remind you to do them. But if you desperately need to take care of the mess in your room, burning calories is a great incentive to get those chores out of the way!

Light housework, like doing laundry, burns 170 calories an hour. Who knows, maybe you'll even find your long-lost shirt or missing books along the way!

5. Put on your dancing shoes

Everyone needs a good dance session now and then. What better time to have one than while you're doing dreaded chores?

"Need to clean you room? Put on some music and get a Swiffer duster and voila!" Ludwig says. "You will be dancing while cleaning and not even notice that you are really exercising."

You'll be able to burn calories, have fun and cross off your to-do list in a breeze. Just 40 minutes of dancing can burn 200 calories—smooth moves not required! So crank up some fast-paced songs like "Wake Me Up," by Avicii and "Alive," by Krewella and channel your inner Beyonce!

6. Squat when you blow-dry your hair

After your nice morning shower, you pull out your hair dryer and start drying... and drying... and drying. Hair can take so long to dry, so why not squat up and down while you do it? You can burn 70 calories for every five minutes you do squats, so only 15 minutes of squatting will burn about 200 calories. Talk about starting your day off right! In fact, you can even go the extra mile and try squatting while brushing your teeth, making a cup of coffee, brushing your hair... you name it!

7. Work on your flexibility

Stretching feels good, helps protect you from injury and burns more than twice the number of calories as sitting. If you spend just 12 minutes a day doing stretches, you'll be able to burn more than 200 calories a week and be that much closer to touching your toes! You can also try doing stretches on the floor with your notes while studying.

8. Swap out your desk chair for an exercise ball

Those wooden dorm desk chairs can feel so uncomfortable after you've hunkered down in them for a few hours. To avoid this and burn some calories, consider swapping your desk chair for an exercise ball.

"My chair at my desk is a ball, so I also do some abdominal exercises while working, and stretch my hamstrings and hip flexors on the ball all the time, as being sedentary for too many hours is detrimental for our bodies," Ludwig says.

Sitting on an exercise ball increases calorie-burning by six percent, and since desk work burns around 106 calories per hour for a 135-pound individual, you can expect to burn 200 calories by doing work on the ball for an hour and 47 minutes. Feel like being more active? Doing a set of sit-ups and abdominal crunches on an exercise ball for 24 minutes burns 200 calories for a 150-pound person.

9. Drink ice-cold water

Next time you're thirsty, skip the room-temperature water. Instead, drink your water ice cold. That way you can get a metabolic boost of about 25 calories per glass, because your body has to use extra energy to warm the water. Down eight glasses of cold water a day, and you'll be burning 200 calories like nobody's business!

10. Walk and talk

Few things are nicer than catching up with a friend over the phone and talking for hours and hours on end. Next time, instead of sitting and chatting away, step outside and get some fresh air—if you go for a walk while you talk, you'll be so engrossed in conversation that you won't even notice that you're burning lots of calories! Walking and talking for an hour burns 200 calories—and you’ll get to catch up with a friend you may not have talked to in a while. It's a win-win!

11. Sing your heart out

Let's admit it—we all miss singing in the shower at home. Sure, this might have annoyed a few neighbors and made a few dogs howl, but you probably got away with it and it was totally worth it.

College is a little different. With 10 girls sharing the same bathroom, it's easy to feel bad or self-conscious about singing. But if you need help convincing yourself about the virtues of singing in the shower, just know that singing for an hour and a half burns 200 calories on average! So whether you like to lock yourself in your room to belt out a few of your favorite songs or have an Easy-A-inspired, Emma-Stone-esque scenario, you'll be burning those calories away and getting that much closer to becoming the next big pop star!

12. Laugh out loud

Who doesn't like to have a laugh attack with their best friends? Besides being totally fun, 10 to 15 minutes of laughter can increase energy expenditure by 10 to 40 calories per day. That means that about an hour and a half of laughing can burn 200 calories. So start practicing those jokes and tickling some funny bones!

Burning calories doesn't have to mean going to the gym and working your way through your usual exercise routine. With a little creativity and attentiveness, you'll be able to burn those extra 200 calories without even noticing it and continue to enjoy those snack sessions and coffee dates!

As collegiettes, we know how it feels when money is the big green giant that we so desperately want and need to hug at night but it seems to always slip right out from underneath us with every card swipe and opening of our wallet. And it’s only after we've bought that thousandth lipstick or fleece item that we feel guilty. Unfortunately, it’s usually everyday items that we actually need that are the most pocket-burning! Here are 15 things we do need but can't afford.

1. Coffee

For those days when we are on the run or just need something to help us get through those all-nighters that make us want to pass out at our desks.

2. Hulu and/or Netflix

Ahh, college usually equals no TV, except when you’re paying for it MONTHLY on your computer.

3. Phone protectors

No matter what phone you have, finding the perfect and most efficient protector is a must. Because those cracks just aren’t pretty to look at.

4. Gas

5. Curtains

6. Furniture

Cheap furniture that you'll have to keep repairing? Or expensive furniture you can count on? Doesn't matter—we can't afford either.

7. Those ultra fancy, anti-allergy pillows

You will get the best, most expensive sleep of your life.

8. Moisturizer

It's one thing finding just the right moisturizer for you, but it's another finding one with the right price.

9. TAKEOUT

10. LinkedIn subscriptions

Yes, this is an everyday necessity thank you very much.

11. Cleaning supplies

12. Textbooks

13. Makeup

For those days when you need to look like you got eight hours of sleep when you really got only eight seconds.

14. Fans and heating vents

Because sometimes the college dorm thermostat just doesn’t do it for you.

15. Room decor

I don't want to live in a dungeon.

9 Reasons Why Jess Deserved So Much More in 'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life'

Warning: If you have not seen Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in its entirety, STOP READING NOW. The below is filled with spoilers.

We’ve known for a while that Jess would be making a comeback in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. But we think all GG fans can agree—Team Jess or not—that this character deserved more than what he got in the revival. Here’s why:

1. He was barely even in the revival

We were promised Jess would be in three of the Netflix event’s episodes. He only appeared in two, and even that was brief.

2. He didn’t even get to go to Luke’s wedding

Jess seemed to be in town for Luke’s wedding—and to help Liz and T.J. with that whole vegetable cult situation. When it was all said and done, Jess didn’t even get to attend the “elopement” Lorelai, Luke and Rory pulled off in the middle of the night.

3. Lorelai seems to not be entirely over her issues with him

Lorelai was still making jokes and not-so-subtle digs at Jess every time his name was brought up. We think it’s about time she moves on from this.

4. What’s going on in his life was barely mentioned

It was said in passing that Jess’s book press was doing well and there was nothing really new to report in his personal life. That’s it? We. Need. More. Details.

5. Rory only used him for career advice

When Rory was in the depths of her career rut, Jess was the one who suggested she write a book about her and her mom. He’s always inspired Rory’s top achievements, but it was obvious he was being used solely to put this idea on Rory’s radar.

6. Rory is clearly still hung up on Logan

Rory was having a transatlantic affair with Logan throughout the revival. And anyone who could read between the lines of their goodbye could tell she wasn’t ready to let him go.

7. And prob having his baby

Who else could be the father?

8. The way he looked at Rory through her window

While it was entirely romantic, we hated that Jess’s love for Rory appeared to be so one-sided. Literal heartbreak.

9. He’s not her Luke

We don’t think he should have to wait for years and pine away for Rory in the way Luke did for Lorelai.

5 Signs He's Interested That You're Not Noticing

Trying to figure out if a guy is interested in you can lead you down a confusing road. Sure, you could just flat out ask, but that takes away the fun of finding out if he’s crushing on you back. It can also be a frustrating process; especially if you don’t think he’s making his intentions very clear. Sure he’s flirting with you, but that could also just be his personality. If you think the movie He’s Just Not That Into You describes your life, you might be surprised to find out that these signs are right in front of you.

Adam LoDolce, love expert and founder of SexyConfidence.com, a website where he helps the 21st century woman create a love life she loves, weighs in on the signs you may be missing!

1. He always “likes” your social media posts

Everyone gets excited when the guy they are crushing on likes their tweet, but usually it doesn’t mean much of anything—unless he’s doing it all the time. “If he likes all your Facebook posts that could be a sign he’s interested,” says LoDolce. If you’re continuously seeing his name under the likes on your social media, no matter what the post is about, it’s safe to say he’s taking a real interest in you. It might not set off any warning signs when you see his name in a list of Instagram likes, but it can actually mean he’s taking the time to keep up with your posts on a regular basis to learn more about you.

2. He gets closer to your friends

Making the effort to get to know your circle of friends is a major signal that he is interested. “Becoming friends with your friends means that he’s trying to get closer to you and win the approval of those in your life,” says LoDolce. If you’re always together in a group setting it can be easy to miss this sign, so really pay attention to how he interacts with your friends. If he’s really taking the time to get to know them then he’s probably doing it so he has the opportunity to get to know you better as well.

3. He tries to act cool

Some guys might act nervous around a girl they like, but other guys might even come off as a little bit cocky. This doesn’t mean that they are like that all the time; instead it could mean that they are trying to impress you. “He always acted different around me than he did with our other friends,” says Jessie Young, a sophomore at New York University. “I could tell he was making more of an effort to come off as cool whenever I was around.” Don’t jump to conclusions when a guy shows you a new side of himselfthere could be deeper meaning behind it!

4. His friends are in on it

If a guy is interested in a girl, he’s probably confided in his friends about it. If you start to notice his friends talking him up or trying to get you guys together, that’s a pretty telling sign that he has feelings for you. “I was at a party and his friends keep telling me all these funny stories about him and talking about how great of a guy he is,” says Elizabeth Darrah, a senior at Rutgers University. “I got the vibe that his friends were trying to hint that he was interested in me.” Pay attention to how his friends not only interact with you, but how they talk about him as well.

5. He asks a lot of questions

He can only ask you about your schedule so many times before things start becoming suspicious. “Asking meaningless questions is another sign, and proves he’s just looking for a reason to talk to you,” says LoDolce. It may seem like he’s just making conversation, but if you pay attention to the types of questions he is asking you might be able to catch on to his plan. If the questions get repetitive, he may be running out of ideas to get your attention—so take note!

Of course there are the obvious signs of flirting, but it’s the more subtle things that can really show just how interested he is. Instead of only looking for things like body language or playful teasing, start paying attention to other things he’s doing. If you take the time to notice these signs, you’ll be able to put together the pieces and confidently make your move—or at least let him know you’re interested in him, too!

Are you in desperate need of primer but haven’t received your paycheck for the month? Did this semester’s textbooks keep you from indulging in your favorite acne cleanser? Are you new to makeup and don’t know where to start? We've asked professional makeup artists to share the budget-friendly products they love in order to give you a go-to guide to affordable and accessible products that work.

1. INGLOT Liquid Eyeliner in Color 25 ($12, Macy's)

Need an easy way to apply liquid eyeliner without losing precision while creating winged tips? Look no further than this eyeliner. Maile Pacheco, makeup artist and founder of beGlammed, says that this eyeliner is a must. "INGLOT Black Liquid Eyeliner is [great] for creating a perfect cat eye. The applicator is a great tool to create that pointed winged liner, so no brush needed.” Pacheco is basically saving our wallets right now—the fewer tools needed, the better!

Need another reason to get your butt to Macy’s? INGLOT doesn’t smudge, and even though the applicator allows for high precision, you don’t have to compromise solid color! Oh, and did we forget to mention that it’s quick-drying?

2.  Bioderma Sensibio H20 ($6.95, Beautylish.com)

Some makeup removers leave your skin feeling dehydrated and irritated—but not this one. According to Pacheco, “Bioderma Sensibio H20 micellar water cleanser is all the rage amongst professional makeup artists and models worldwide. This amazing remover contains clusters of cleansing molecules that break down and dissolve impurities and [refresh] your skin, leaving you with brightened, smooth skin.”

Best of all, Bioderma has products made for practically any skin type, be it dry, oily or just ultra-sensitive (though prices may vary on specific product type).

3. Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer ($4.94 at Walmart)

In college, it's basically the norm to be awake during the most ungodly hours of the night to finish an essay or problem set. In turn, getting ready the next morning can feel impossible, thanks to stubborn dark circles! We know you work hard, so here’s a product that will work hard for you. Say hello to a fresh face without a bulky price tag.

Brittany Lo, makeup artist and founder of NYC beauty service Beautini, shares her go-to product to hide the effects of sleep deprivation: Maybelline's Cover Stick Corrector Concealer. “It's a slightly thicker consistency than most concealers, so it's perfect for when you need [to] pull an all-nighter or [when you] have early morning classes! The key is to get a shade lighter than your skin tone, so it not only covers but brightens your under-eyes!” This is surely a must-have for busy collegiettes, and you can get it from your closest drugstore!

4. L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Pro Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner ($9.49, Walgreens)

Looking for an intense eyeliner without the intense price? Paula Heckenast, a Chicago-based makeup artist whose past corporate clients include Smashbox, Disney and CoverGirl, talked to us about a few products she finds just as effective as they are accessible. “L'Oréal has an intense eyeliner pencil that’s great for blending. And you can get it from Walgreens,” says Heckenast. This specific liner promises the precision you want for smooth lines but can also be smudged for a smokier look. Talk about versatility!

5. e.l.f. Eyeshadow Primer ($3, elfcosmetics.com)

We all want to get the most out of our eyeshadow without paying an arm and a leg. Luckily, your search for the best affordable primer is about to end. Heckenast’s recommendation? e.l.f.’s Eyeshadow Primer. It’s cost-efficient and gives your shadow long-lasting color, while simultaneously preventing creases and moisturizing your eyelids. This product also boasts being without parabens, preservatives and chemical dyes. Not too shabby for a $3 buy!

6. L'Oréal Paris Infallible Super Slim Liner ($8.99, Walgreens)

If you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses, meet your new favorite (and reasonably priced) opthamologist-tested eyeliner.

Margina Dennis, an artist whose work has been seen on celebrities such as Lea Michele and Jane Lynch, recommends L'Oréal Infallible Super Slim Liner for price-conscious collegiettes. "This precision felt tip applicator gives you a lot of control so you can [apply a] thin or thick line. The color is a rich black and it doesn't budge once it's dry. You will want to use waterproof makeup remover to take it off!”

7. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow ($6.99, Walgreens)

For all of the collegiettes out there who collect vibrant shades of shadow, get your hands on this product stat. It lasts for 24 hours (that is, if you ever needed to keep it on that long) and maintains a striking color without creasing at the eyelids.

“This is in a lot of pros’ kits and can be used [alone] as a shadow or shadow base,” says Dennis. “And you can mix the colors together and customize them. I also use them as liner colors, or as a base for a colored smoky eye. They come in matte, metallic, and shimmery shades that are long-wearing.”

Just another heads-up: this product is also safe for sensitive eyes and contact lenses wearers. So where has it been all our lives? Oh, right—the nearest drugstore.

8. NYX Eyeshadow Collections ($4.49, ULTA)

NYX is one of the more affordable brands commonly used by makeup artists, and for good reason. With NYX, you have a wide variety of options for quality neutral shadows and gorgeous, vibrant hues. So whether you lean towards natural tones or glittery products, you’ll find your match with NYX’s Eyeshadow Collections.

"Prismatic, Hot Singles, Nude Matte and Glam—you will probably see these shadows in more pros kits because they now offer a pan only version that will easily fit into a Z Palette," says Dennis. "I have some of the bright colors in my kit as an affordable option because I don't use brights that [often]. They will [also] work on all different skin tones.” Works for us!

9. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($5.99, ULTA

There's one thing nearly every collegiette wants in a lip product: durability. And while lip balms promise to last, they can't always cut it when you want vibrant colors. Thinking about changing up your lip regimen? Try out NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream.

“This long-lasting liquid lipstick comes in a wide range of colors including nudes, fun colors, reds, browns—you name it. Make sure you have those lips exfoliated and moisturized before applying so that you get the best finish," says Dennis. "Overall, [it’s a] favorite for bridal artists or those wanting [long-lasting] wear.”

10. Sonia Kashuk Brushes ($3.99 to $39.99, Target)

If you’re ever in need of a new makeup brush, Sonia Kashuk has exactly what you’re looking for. Face it—who wants to drop $40 on single brush when you can get a set of ten for the same price? And even if you aren't ready to commit to a set, you're in luck. This Target brand has some great brush finds, starting at $3.99 (i.e. this blending brush).

According to Dennis, “These brushes not only look good [but] also perform well and easy on the eyes and face. Sonia Kashuk is a makeup artist who thinks about not only the consumers but also fellow artists. Her brushes are one of the things that sell out quick in store, especially the limited edition collections.”

So if you’re looking for brushes that are easy on your face and available at your closest Target store, you better act fast.

11. Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color SPF 16 ($9.99, Target)

The issue: You like vibrant lipsticks, but you also like keeping your lips safe under the sun.

The solution: Sonia Kashuk’s Satin Luxe Lip Color SPF 16.

“Creamy, bold rich color, and non-drying,” remarks Dennis, describing the sticks. “These lip colors not only have SPF protection (which is hard to find in lipcolors these days), [but] they are paraben free. Nice packaging too, which [looks] and feels luxurious.”

The sun may be able to kiss you, but now you can kiss it back.

12. L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Glossy Lip Balm ($6.97, Walmart)

Lipstick can be a pain to put on (and a hassle to keep off your teeth), and lip gloss gets continuously stuck to your hair. That's why, if you're aiming for a product without any annoyances, you should try L'Oréal Colour Riche Lip Balm.

“This is a gloss that is long wearing that doesn't dry out the lips. Artist[s] love it because [it] look[s] like a hybrid between a lip stain and a gloss and give[s] that fresh look. As the gloss wears away you are left with a stain of color on the lips,” says Dennis.

13. Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara ($7.94, Walgreens)

Do you like versatile products that won’t bulk up your makeup bag? Do you advocate for time-saving beauty regimens? Are you looking for a new eyebrow mascara that doesn’t clump? Consider Maybelline’s brow mascara, which keeps your eyebrows in place throughout the day while simultaneously giving them a dramatic look.

“Pros love products that do a multitude of things at once because they are time savers for us. Available in four colors this mousse-like gel not only keeps your brows where you want them all day, but it also tints them and fills them in,” says Dennis.

Brb, we're off to Walgreens for brows.

14. e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit ($3, Walgreens)

When it comes to patchy or out-of-control brows, many turn to brow pencils to give them an arch or fill in space. But if you’re looking to shape and sculpt your brows more efficiently, consider e.l.f.’s Studio Eyebrow Kit.

“[It comes with a] tinted wax and along with a setting powder that keeps everything in place,” says Dennis. “[The kit also] comes in three flattering colors that work with most hair colors. And a bonus is that it comes with a doubled sided brush so that you can get a precise brow look.”

After trying this product out, you might ditch the eyebrow pencil for good!

15. NYX HD Finishing Powder ($9.99, ULTA)

Stephanie Johnson, a Dallas-based makeup artist, hairstylist and cosmetology educator, offers us some of her go-tos. And as a part-time photographer, you can bet she knows how to get your face looking photo- (or selfie-) ready!

On her list? This powder, which reduces the appearance of creases and pores on your skin, giving your face a smoothed-over, matte finish.

"[NYX's] HD Powder is a great finish and set powder that floats on the skin, creating a more smooth and unified appearance. This is a favorite on photoshoots as it photographs beautifully,” she says. So the the next time you’re prepping for a photo-filled event, look no further!

16. NYX Loose Pearl Eye Shadows ($1.49, ULTA)

If you’re the playful one who rocks the zany colors, you can now do it at a lower price. These shadows give you long-wearing tones that will make your eyes pop.

“The NYX loose [pearl] pigments are a lot of fun to play with, and super pigmented,” says Johnson. “A sure-fire favorite for the really creative gal who likes to make art out of her eyes.”

And yes, you read that correctly—one shade is $1.49. Since that's literally less than the price of a tall cup of Starbs coffee, you don't have an excuse to not stock up. Better yet, you have thirty shades to choose from.

17. NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($6.99, ULTA)

“The new lip suedes by NYX are amazing," says Johnson. "They're true to tone and have fun colors that the younger ladies are going nuts for. This is a new favorite in the whole kit for me,” she adds.

The lip suedes are also waterproof, so there’s no need to worry about wear due to rain (or, for the lucky ladies, a day by the pool).

18. Physician's Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush ($11.99, CVS

Physician’s Formula’s Happy Booster Blush gives your complexion a warm glow, and on days when you’re feeling especially bogged down, applying this blush will give you a pop of color that just might boost your mood!

“Something I'm using on my own face, daily, that I'm crazy about is the Physician's Formula Happy Booster Blush. It's a great daily blush with a soft finish," says Johnson.

So what are you waiting for? Look radiant and get happy, collegiettes!

19. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater ($7, ULTA

Winter is coming, and with it an onslaught of dry, flaky skin. So when choosing a moisturizer to carry in your seasonal bag, try the Mario Badescu Facial Spray.

“This is a great thing to keep in your bag. It's a light [moisturizer] that can set makeup and give a dewy finish (or soften that crazy powder) or just give your skin a little refresh throughout the day,” suggests Johnson. “If you're a natural girl, you can spritz to keep your skin refreshed. [It’s] also great to help parched winter skin, through travel, or sitting in rooms with artificial heat all day long.”

20. L’Oréal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara ($10.99, CVS)

“This product makes the lashes [appear] long and thick," says two-time Emmy nominated celebrity makeup artist DeeDee Marcelli. "It's unique because on one end of the product it has a primer to coat each lash and once it dries you follow up with a creamy mascara formula on the other end. The combination of both gives your lashes the best look possible. I use it all the time on my celebrity clients and they love it!”

This is slightly different from your typical single-brush mascara, in that it comes with a base coat and top coat. The base coat functions to protect your lashes, and the topcoat provides the desired, dramatic length. So are you willing to take an extra step for extra long (and inexpensive) lashes? We sure are!

21. Ardell Fashion Lashes ($4.99, CVS)

Molly Leahy, a bridal hair and makeup artist at Blushing Brides (a Boston-based boutique offering hair, makeup and nail services), recommends these falsies when you're feeling daring.

These lashes are “Certainly not something for everyone or every day, but if you are going out at night then it's super easy to do your normal makeup routine and add some false lashes for a more dramatic nighttime look,” she says. And since everyone has different preferences, Leahy offers up an extra money-saving tip: “If you don't want full strips then cut the strip in half and use both pieces as two sets of lashes instead! Not only is it more subtle and easier to apply but you just doubled your investment as well.”

Dramatic look + drugstore availability + two “sets” for one price = a must-have.

22. L'Oréal True Match Foundation and Concealer ($10.99 and $8.99, CVS)

You’re at CVS, casually glazing your eyes over the variety of foundation and concealer products, as thoughts of “Which one? Which one? Which one?” play on a loop in your flustered brain. Girl, we've got you! Try L'Oréal True Match.

“There is literally every shade and tone available for every skin type, so you will never be at a loss to find your perfect color," says Leahy. "The liquid is super blendable, and the concealer actually has great coverage!" Bonus tip: "If you want to go really crazy, you could get two extra concealers in darker and lighter shades for liquid contour and highlighting.”

23. e.l.f. Lash and Brow Mascara ($2, Target)

“You can't really get much more inexpensive than e.l.f. with most items being as low as $3,” says Leahy. “That being said, some of their products are truly awesome! Their brow compact comes with a gel and powder that can double as brow fillers or eyeshadow.”

This gel works wonders by conditioning your lashes for a healthy look, and it's long-wearing to boot!

24. CoverGirl Jumbo Gloss Balm ($8.99, CVS)

This vibrant product gives your lips what you want, while treating your skin with what it needs: bold color and moisture!

“I live for these!” says Leahy. “They moisturize your lips and give a really beautiful soft color that wears off naturally.”

25. BH Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palettes ($12 to $30, BHCosmetics.com)

If nearby stores don’t carry the eyeshadow palettes you need, you’ll probably look online. Need somewhere to start? Try bhcosmetics.com for lower-priced deals on diverse palettes!

“This is a website that is literally my Mecca for great, inexpensive, quality makeup products," says Leahy. "You can get a 120 [color] eyeshadow palette for $20, contour kits for $10 and to top it off they have CRAZY cyber Monday sales that you won't want to miss if you're looking to stock up. This is [also] a great place to get a makeup brush set for way less!”

With large color palettes comes great potential. Can you imagine all the effects you can achieve with one of these beauties? Let your creative wings soar with tools from this budget-friendly website.

26. Maybelline Lasting Drama Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner ($7.94, Walmart)

St. Louis-based makeup artist Emily Miller uses this Maybelline product on her clients all the time, noting that the 24 hour long-wear promise is actually accurate. “I put it on in the morning, didn’t take it off that evening to test it out and it was still on the following morning,” says Miller.

“I have tons of brushes... and I can honestly say the brush [this product] comes with is one of my favorites," she adds. "The color choices are great, the liner dries and doesn’t flake and doesn’t hit the upper lid if you have hooded eyes. The formula is smooth and dries quickly.” So what's not to love?

27. Covergirl TruBlend Fix Stick Concealer ($7.59, Target)

Need an alternative for covering up those tired under-eye circles? CoverGirl has your back.

Freelance makeup artist Jana Geyer recommends CoverGirl’s concealer stick. “[It’s a] great, cost effective option for covering up blemishes, getting rid of redness as well as dark under eye circles [that can] also be used as a highlighter for contouring.” Geyer also says using CoverGirl TruBlend Liquid Foundation will help you achieve an “even base.” The foundation settles on your skin for a smoothed over, even look, which will do a lovely job of complementing your newly-freshened face.

28. Ben Nye HD Matte Foundation ($12, CameraReadyCosmetics.com)

Melanie Djuric, a professional makeup artist from Australia (Up Front Styling and Makeup Services), is a published author currently writing a book about cruelty-free cosmetics. With her emphasis on ethical cosmetics, she finds Ben Nye products to be a prime.

“My favorite cream foundation is 100% Ben Nye matte cream foundation. There is NOTHING like it on the market. It looks so gorgeous on. I use this a lot in my kit and on jobs because it's long lasting.” But can this formula truly become your next go-to? “It's quite a heavy foundation for everyday use," she admits, but fear not! "It's perfect for special occasions like weddings, parties, going out, anything where you want to really step up your game and put a little more effort into your makeup!”

While a bit pricier than other foundations on this list, this product is totally worth it when it comes to special occasions. It’s also an ideal product for oilier skin types.

Choosing the right makeup can take time and (a lot) of money, but it doesn't have to. There are some amazing finds at your local drugstore, as well as some inexpensive online options—all approved by the experts themselves!

27 Bad Decisions You'll Make After Listening to Adele

Adele basically stopped the world when she released "Hello" last year. The hugely successful single was followed by the release of her latest album 25, which (not surprisingly) made music sales history and sold 3.38 million copies in the U.S. in just one week. Everybody loves the songstress––her music makes us feel all the feels.

Every single Adele song has this weird way of taking us over, and sometimes even leading us to make bad decisions. Read below for an extensive list of all of the Adele-inspired bad decisions we're guilty of making:

1. Text our ex.

2. Call our ex.

3. Hang out with our ex.

4. Get back together with our ex.

5. Rethink every past relationship we've ever had and where we went wrong.

6. Feel a deep burning sadness inside us.

7. But somehow it feels good, too?

8. Miss somebody we met one time.

9. Miss somebody we don't even know.

10. Use the lyrics to make some emotional Tweets, Facebook statuses and Instagram captions that we'll definitely regret down the road.

11. Cry and cry and cry.

12. Scream out the lyrics at the most inappropriate times.

13. Reclude into our dark bedrooms to analyze every aspect of life.

14. Try to mend all the broken relationships in our lives––even the ones we absolutely shouldn't.

15. Did we mention cry?

16. Wish we gave that one person a second chance.

17. *Dials old friend* "Hello, it's me..."

18. Feel sentimental about even the most irrelevant moments.

19. "I should have cherished that milkshake more..." *Bursts into tears*

20. Wonder where it all went wrong...

21. Attempt to write an album about our own age––and fail miserably.

22. Probably cry.

23. Binge listen to every Adele album in existence on repeat.

24. Feel hopeless about ever finding your one true love.

25. Make you think a f**kboy is the one that got away.

26. Contemplate why *insert childhood crush's name here* broke your heart back in fifth grade.

27. Cry.

Thank you, Adele. We love you.

8 Reasons Why I'm Still Team Logan After 'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life'

$

Warning: If you have not seen Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in its entirety, STOP READING NOW. The below is filled with spoilers.

While we were expecting Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life to finally settle the decades-long debate about which of Rory’s boyfriends is her perfect match, we were thrown quite the curveball when Ms. Gilmore ended up single and pregnant at the end of the revival. Despite everything that happened in the four-part Netflix event, I’m still Team Logan.

1. He and Rory had a ~real~ relationship

Unlike her fragile romance with Jess, Rory’s relationship with Logan lasted three years and withstood breaks, long-distance and her feud with Lorelai. Logan didn’t run from Rory at the first sign of something real—Jess did.

2. Something brought them back together

Logan and Rory didn’t end on the best terms after she turned down his proposal in season seven. Despite that, something—though it wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the revival—brought them back together. That means something in this AS-P-ruled world.

3. They have history

It’s true that Rory has history with quite a few exes, but Logan was her first adult relationship. They had their childish moments, but they also lived together and spent weekends in Martha’s Vineyard. If that doesn’t scream serious, I don’t know what will.

4. He clearly can’t get over her

Logan is engaged to another woman throughout the revival—a plot point I’m none too pleased with, btw—but Rory is the one whose phone calls he takes in the middle of the night and he lets stay at his London apartment any time she’s in town. Marrying faceless Odette may be part of the Huntzbergers’ dynastic plan, but Logan would much rather be with Rory.

5. He would do pretty much anything for her

Rory should consider herself lucky that this guy is willing to fly all the way to Stars Hollow to take her on a wild romp around the east coast just to cheer her up. We all know that a Gilmore girl doesn’t need rescuing, but if she did, Logan would be there for Rory in a heartbeat.

6. She feels it too

I truly believe there’s a reason Rory continues her affair with Logan, even though he’s not exactly available. Sure, he’s someone she feels comfortable with. He’s familiar and reasonably safe. But there seems to be more to it. He’s her pillow. He’s the guy she keeps coming back to, regardless of the circumstances.

7. She’s pregnant with his child

We can only glean so much from Amy Sherman-Palladino because she reveals very little about her thoughts and motives. But if Rory was meant to follow exactly in Lorelai’s footsteps simply by getting pregnant with the rich guy’s baby, couldn’t she have had a one-night stand with Logan? The fact that she carries on an affair with him throughout the revival’s four parts and then finds out she’s pregnant is meaningful. AS-P does everything for a reason, so this seems to point to something deeper than history repeating itself.

8. If she wanted to be with Jess, she would just be with Jess

When Jess drops by the Stars Hollow Gazette, Rory mentions that it’s been four years since she last saw him. We don’t have any real information about the kind of contact they’ve had in the nearly 10 years since we’ve seen them on-screen together, but it seems they’ve fallen out of touch. Tbh, if Rory wanted to be with Jess, she would just be with him. What’s standing in her way? Oh yeah…LOGAN.

5 Unbeatable Ways to Save Money in College

$

0

College doesn’t come cheap. As collegiettes, we’re so focused on making the most of our four years on campus – balancing our classes and good grades with social lives, extracurriculars and even study abroad experiences. But the last thing we need is to let our college experiences get bogged down by money worries. Every little bit of cash counts, so we’re sharing our favorite money-saving hacks to help you make the most of college (and the real world that comes after)!

1. Choose the right way to pay

Student loans seem scary. When you’re dealing with payment plans, interest rates and other financial jargon you’ve never heard before (and really would rather live without), it can seem impossible to pick a plan that works for you. But that’s the key to saving money!

Make it easy on yourself by creating a smart, easy financial plan. Our favorite go-to is College Ave Student Loans, which was founded to help students pay for school as easily and inexpensively as possible. They give you a ton of loan options and payment plans to choose from so that you’re not borrowing more than you need or paying more than you should down the line.

Plus, you can use yet another money-saving hack: You can start paying off your loan, little by little, while you’re still in school. College Ave Student Loans rewards early payments by reducing your interest charges, which means you get to pay less overall. We’re all about the quick and painless process – it’s short and completely mobile-friendly, so you can apply wherever and whenever works for you! Plus, saving money is an obvious must to make the most of college life. Less spent on loans means more spent on your actual college experience!

2. Cut down on your extra expenses

Admit it: Your daily iced coffee craving (and inability to avoid giving into that craving) is costing you big bucks. Sure, plunking down $3.00 a day might not seem like much. But try adding that up over the course of the year, and you’ve just drank over $1,000 worth of caffeine.

Whatever your small spending habit is – be it coffee runs before your library sessions, ordering sushi to your dorm once a week or shopping to de-stress (true story) – it’s important to tally it up over the course of the year and decide if it’s worth your spending. If you can cut it down by half – only grabbing a coffee every other day, shopping once a month instead of every other week, etc. – you can save majorly big bucks in the long run. Prioritize your spending, people!

3. Use apps to track your expenses

Even if you cut down on your coffee purchases and opt for home-brewed or dining hall offerings, you’re still going to be spending your money somewhere. Download a free app like Mint to track your expenses and build smart budgets for yourself. That way, you won’t find yourself strapped for cash at the end of the month, wondering where it all went!

Take your budgeting hack one step further by looking into smartphone apps that save you money; trust us when we say there are tons of ways to ensure you’re spending smartly, and your phone is one of the best tools to help you do it!

4. Get involved on campus

As we said, you’re already spending a ton of your time in college getting involved in extracurriculars. Why not kill two birds with one stone and let your club events and time on campus actually save you money?

Jen Morgan, a senior at Messiah College, says that this is the key to controlling your spending in college. “Since you probably pay a student activities fee every time you get your tuition bill for the semester, you might as well make the most of it!” she explains. “If you want to save some money, skip the club or bar that night and opt for a free night of fun on-campus. These activities often include movies, parties, dances and other fun events.”

Even if you’re not a member of a specific club, you may still be able to score free food (prepare for a lot of pizza!) at events other clubs are hosting, like panels or get-togethers on campus. Get your daily dose of entertainment and your dinner by getting involved!

5. Make lists (and stick to them)

This goes without saying, but it’s easy to get carried away in college. Everywhere you turn, you’re looking at an opportunity to have fun – or an opportunity to buy something that’ll make your day that much easier (even if that something is an extra bag of Oreos). How are you supposed to hold back when it feels like the world is at your fingertips?

Just remember: lists, lists, lists! “Whether you're headed to the grocery store or on a Target run, make a list of the items you know you need to purchase,” advises Jen. “This will save you time as you shop, and will save you money if you vow to only stick to items on your list.”

Most importantly, don’t let your friends’ spending habits impact your own. Sure, your roomie might be stocking up on a ton of pricey organic foods or buying half of H&M when you were only supposed to be bathing suit-shopping, but that doesn’t mean you have to follow suit to keep up. Keep your list on hand to keep you focused, and save your cash for the stuff that matters.

No matter what your financial situation is like, it’s always important to watch your spending in college so you can have fun without feeling financial guilt. Stay on top of your smart financial plan with College Ave Student Loans, cut your spending on frivolous expenses (bye-bye, daily Frappuccinos) and take advantage of free activities while they last! Now’s your time to shine, so kiss your money worries goodbye!

A Woman Shot Her Boyfriend After He "Smooshed" Pizza in Her Face

A woman in Pennsylvania shot her boyfriend in the chest after he grabbed her by the hair and rubbed a slice of pizza in her face, according to the Associated Press. The couple—34-year-old Brandon Doan and his 31-year-old girlfriend Jennifer Boop—were in an argument at the time of the incident, which happened on Oct. 12. Doan had allegedly thrown Boop and her two daughters out of their shared home, and got mad when Boop didn't pack up her things to leave.

"I grabbed her by the hair and gently smooshed the pizza in her face. She quickly shot me," Doan said on the witness stand.

After the shooting, Boop called for help before she began to try to stop the bleeding. She told police she was holding the gun to try to scare her boyfriend, but didn't mean to actually shoot him.

Doan has to wear a neck brace and says he's partially lost use of one of his arms, according to The Daily Item.

Boop has been charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault, which her attorney says is not justified because she was "bullied" by Doan. It definitely sounds like the relationship was not a healthy one. Despite this, a district attorney ordered Boop to stand trial. She is currently in jail on a $25,000 bond.

This Woman Was Accused of Poisoning Her Son With Feces During His Cancer Treatment

As Tiffany Alberts' teenage son underwent treatment for his leukemia, she sat by him and hoped he would recover quickly at an Indianapolis hospital. But then it was discovered, after an investigation starting Nov. 17, that Alberts was injecting his IV drip with fecal matter while sitting at his bedside. Cosmopolitan reports that she allegedly did this several times. Alberts, 41, told police that she did it so her son could have access to better treatment.

Doctors discovered what Alberts was doing after the teenager contracted several infections linked to organisms usually found in feces. Surveillance footage showed Alberts injecting something into her son's IV line, but she said she was just trying to flush it out because her son was having pain from the medication (never mind that only a doctor should be doing that). She later confessed to injecting fecal matter into the IV. Court documents report, "she did it to get her son moved to another unit that had better treatment." She has now been charged with six counts of battery and one count of neglect of a dependent, Fox 59 reports.

Rather than helping her son, Alberts made his condition worse. Doctors said that he's improving now, according to Fox 59, but that he could have died from fecal matter being put into his system. Plus, the infections delayed his cancer treatment—meaning he has a greater chance of dying from the disease than if his mom had just left him alone.

Amy Sherman-Palladino Isn't Promising Us More 'Gilmore Girls'

After waiting almost ten years, we were blessed with four new episodes of Gilmore Girls this past week, but fans are already desperate for more.

Given that no amount of episodes will probably ever fill our insatiable desire to hear the Gilmores' pop culture references or finally find out who Rory ends up with, it is not surprising that followers of the show are already asking the series' creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, if this is really the end.

The showrunner admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that a decision has not been made yet.

“We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey,” Sherman-Palladino said. “So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do.”

She is aware of the growing curiosity, but she isn’t promising anything. She continued, “And the whole thought about, ‘Is there more, is there more, is there more?’ — this has to go out into the universe now. We've got to put this to bed.”

But of course, just like in her writing, Sherman-Palladino never fully closes a window of opportunity. So she added, “And then whatever happens, happens.”

If there is destined to be more, please don't make us wait nearly a decade again. We need more Jess Mariano in our lives.

Charleston Church Shooter Dylann Roof is Competent to Stand Trial & Will Represent Himself

Dylann Roof will stand trial for his involvement in the killing of nine black attendees at a South Carolina church in 2015, according to The Los Angeles Times. He is facing the death penalty, and will represent himself in court. Jury selection for the trial started Monday.

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel delayed the beginning of the trial after Roof’s lawyers said he may not have been competent, meaning he may not have understood his crime and its consequences. He was evaluated by a psychiatrist to test for competency. Gergel finally announced that 22-year-old Roof is competent to appear in court for charges of hate crime and obstruction of religion, among 31 other federal charges, after his deadly actions at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

What remains unknown is why Roof’s competency was questionable. In a two-day, private hearing, Gergel met with only Roof, his lawyer, prosecutors and witnesses, and heard statements by Roof that were directed at a psychologist. These remarks might not be legal to use in court and could affect the jury’s opinions. According to KTLA News, Gergel ultimately sealed the detailed report explaining his ruling of Roof’s mental state.

Even though Roof's competency was questioned, he will be allowed to represent himself in court, Gergel ruled on Monday. The judge told Roof he thought the decision was "strategically unwise" but that he had a right to represent himself as long as it was voluntary, according to NPR. The Associated Press reports that Roof's former lawyer, Attorney David Bruck, will stick around in case Roof asks for help during the trial.

Roof was also found competent in state courts as well. Another death penalty trial is scheduled to start for him in January in South Carolina.
