There's A New 'Gilmore Girls' Trailer & It's Pure Magic

One week, people. We are just one week away from the release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and we don't know how we've waited this long. Seriously, the waiting just goes on and on, and a week feels like an eternity at this point.

But Netflix feels your pain and has gifted you with a fresh trailer to tide you over until the pizza and episodes(!) get here. The trailer is largely made up of scenes we saw in the first official trailer Netflix released, but there are plenty of other juicy morsels to gather.

In one scene, Lorelai and Rory hit the pool, and in another, they discuss the younger Gilmore's underwear situation, which seems to be a running thread throughout the four-part revival. (If you remember, we teased these very moments back in October!) Babette berates Rory for being part of the thirty-something generation knocked down by the world and living back in their old rooms. Paris is kicking in a bathroom door—that's so Paris of her. And there are even more shots of Jess. You may have to pause very quickly to see them, but let us tell you, it's *so* worth it.

Check out the brand new trailer below, and join us in counting down the days!

Who Has More Friends, Gen Z or Millennials?

Are you a millennial or a proud member of Gen Z? It can sometimes be hard to distinguish between the two generations—aren't we all just glued to our phones and obsessed with social media these days? According to a survey by Acuvue, there are some key differences in how the two groups ~live life~. Here's how your gen lines up:

Young people actually do communicate face-to-face

As much as we live behind our screens, we do communicate face-to-face, too. Seventy-eight percent of millennials and Gen Z interact with their friends by seeing them in person. That's not to say we're not using social media to our advantage, though; 33 percent of Gen Z-ers say they've used social media to make friends (24 percent of millennials agree). But who's got more? Gen Z, you roll with bigger squads—17 percent of 14 to 17 year olds say they have more than 10 close friends. Just 8 percent of those aged 18 to 35 have that big of a squad.

Smartphones are helping millennials and Gen Z-ers see into bright futures

While many adults perceive millennials and Gen Z as too lazy to get up from in front of the computer screen, those screens may be the gateway to impressive futures for younger generations. In fact, both generations are as motivated as ever to find a lasting career they can be passionate about—this according to 31 percent of respondents. But priorities lie in different camps. Thirty-seven percent of Gen Z-ers say that earning a lot of money is their number one career goal. Meanwhile, 27 percent of millennials say that a good work-life balance is what they find most important. Regardless, it seems that Millennials and Gen Z-ers both feel more driven to go after what they want.

Both generations are ready to talk politics

Together, these groups are engaged and outspoken when it comes to politics. Freedom of choice, according to 69 percent of survey takers across both age groups, is very important. And both agree that there's so much more to the world that most of us even know. Eighty percent believe the world has so much to offer—and they are hopeful for the future.

How to Make a Hoodie Look Chic (Seriously!)

The temperatures are dropping, we’re counting down the days until Thanksgiving break, and it’s officially red cup season at Starbucks—meaning winter is almost here. For many collegiettes, the colder months can often mean looking cute for class takes a little bit of a hit—after all, who wants to get up early on a dark, cold morning and put on anything other than sweats? What’s a fashionista to do?

It turns out that, when styled correctly, your sweats just might be some of the chicest pieces in your closet. That hoodie you normally reserve for early morning coffee runs and trips to the gym? It can actually look good—and will keep you comfy and cozy all day long. Don’t believe us? These looks just might change your mind.

1. The zip-up

A no-fail way to glam up a hoodie? Lots of layers. While a simple gray zip hoodie may look bland and boring at first, it adds a sporty look when worn over a classic red stripe tee and under a faux leather vest, which gives the outfit a luxe edge. A knit pencil skirt is a fall must-have—it looks polished and pulled together, but only you know that it’s also as comfy as wearing a snuggly blanket all day! Timeless faux suede booties with a slight heel perfectly balance out your skirt’s midi length.

When picking a pullover, a cropped style like this navy pick is best. While an oversize shape can tend to look more like your go-to sweater to snuggle up in for some quality Netflix time, a cropped silhouette looks more put together and allows for layering. Wear a crisp, white button down underneath—it adds polish to a casual piece! Edgy leather pants with zipper details are the cool-girl alternative to plain black jeans and dress up your look just enough. Finish off the look with leopard print flats for a splash of fun color and print. A minimalist gray backpack is the perfect cool and casual carryall!

3. The athleisure statement piece

How to Wear a Hoodie: Graphic

ICYMI, athleisure has been EVERYTHING lately—and this bright, statement-making Adidas hoodie is the perfect way to try the trend. To style it, keep the rest of your look minimalist and simple to let your sweatshirt shine as the main piece. A wrap style midi skirt is effortlessly chic. Pairing it with sneakers is unexpected and gives off the perfect sporty vibe to match your sweatshirt. To dress up the look, an oversize gunmetal cuff on your wrist and a delicate chain bag add just enough bling.

4. The chic cowl neck

How to Wear a Hoodie: Cowl Neck

A classy cowl-neck sweatshirt will easily become your new go-to night-out piece—and it’s the perfect way to look chic while staying warm on a chilly night! An on-trend suede button-front skirt and a furry vest on top dress this look up enough for Saturday night. Red croc pointed-toe ankle booties are a cool, it-girl choice for going out but are way more practical than heels. Switch out your typical cross body bag for a bucket bag, a.k.a. the season’s trendiest bag shape.

5. The minimalist graphic

How to Wear a Hoodie: Minimal

Like your favorite graphic tee, a graphic hoodie has cool, casual vibes but is a much more winter-appropriate choice! Here, a denim-on-denim ensemble looks on point—layer your sweatshirt under a denim jacket and rock a pair of distressed black skinnies on bottom. Make an eye-catching, shiny statement with metallic flats and a sparkly ear cuff!

The bottom line? When you need to strike the balance between cute and comfy, a sweatshirt will become your unexpected new BFF!

Shonda Rhimes has done it again. Her incredible writing has brought tears, questions and heartbreak to all Grey's fans. Season 13 has been a whirlwind thus far—from Alex's court date to Dr. Webber's replacement, it's safe to say that fans were left with numerous questions after Thursday night's winter finale. Even though the second half of season 13 will be premiering in January (thank goodness), we're going crazy because we want to know what happens. Will Dr. Bailey replace Webber? Will Alex listen to Meredith? Will Jo leave? Will the entire Grey-Sloan staff fight for Webber to keep his job? So many cliffhangers and we want answers NOW.

Here are a few thoughts we had during the winter finale:

1. OH my gosh, a building just collapsed. What the heck! Wasn't expecting that.

2. Dr. Minnick is there. Why is she there? Go away.

3. Omg this is so dramatic.

4. Jo, just tell Alex about your past.

5. Oh, gotta love patients who throw up on doctors. Poor April.

6. Is Ben really impersonating a priest?

7. Omg another hurt child. Please let her be okay.

8. This man has a wife and girlfriend? Drama…

9. Come on, Arizona—take the flirting hint! You have to get over Callie sometime!

10. That new girl better not be taking Webber's job…

11. Bailey, what did you do?

12. This little girl can't die! Don't let her, Webber!!

13. Grey's Anatomy music is always on point. Brb crying.

14. That poor girl… those poor parents…

15. FINALLY Jo! You should have told Alex the truth a long time ago…

16. Minnick and Arizona are really cute actually. Come on, Arizona—put yourself out there and take a chance!

17. Ugh Meredith and Alex are the best BFFs ever.

18. What is this woman doing? Why is she looking for the landlord? This looks sketchy.

19. Maggie isn't being annoying, Webber. She cares.

20. Bailey, don't do this to Webber. He taught you and trained you. Why are you doing this to him?

21. Go Maggie! Make a change!

22. Alex, don't do this… Why are you doing this...

23. Yes, Meredith! You tell him! Alex needs to hear all of this.

24. Webber, you have the entire hospital fighting for you. Brb crying.

25. Alex, don't do this…

26. Wait, what's going on with Amelia and Owen?!

27. Ugh this cliffhanger.

28. Great. Now we have to wait until January to see what happens.

The 7 Daily Habits of Confident People

$

Over the years, Demi Lovato has taught us several important lessons. In Camp Rock, she taught us to confront our fears head-on and to never be afraid of embracing our talents. In her single “Skyscraper,” she told us to persevere and stand tall even when we feel overwhelmed. With her latest single, Demi reminded us that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being confident, young women. While it might be easy to embrace our bold side when we are alone in our rooms jamming to “Confident,” it is definitely much more difficult to channel our inner pop star in everyday life.

College can sometimes get the best of us and leave us feeling uncertain of our own power. However, we have seven daily habits that will leave you feeling fearless and empowered every day.

1. Set a focus

Confident people have goals that keep them moving forward. They have a positive outlook on life, and they set mini milestones on the path toward their larger goals. At the beginning of the day, write down a goal that you would like to accomplish in a notebook or a planner. When the day is over, return to your goal and set a new one if you achieved it, or remind yourself to try to accomplish it again the next day. Setting goals and having a focus will help you to feel better about yourself and your accomplishments.

“I have a Lilly Pulitzer planner that I'm obsessed with,” says Iris Goldsztajn, a senior at University of California, Los Angeles. “Writing everything I need to do down is definitely super empowering, but I also do this silly thing where I write down every day something I did for my career. I think when you're working towards a goal and you look back over the past couple weeks and see how much you've accomplished, it's a really cool feeling! It definitely makes me feel more confident.”

2. Speak and think positively

Being confident means shying away from self-doubt and feelings of inferiority. Replace negative thoughts or speech with words that are encouraging. You can be your own worst enemy or best friend. Don’t waste time beating yourself down when you can be building yourself up.

"Most of us are completely unaware of the things we say and the words we use," says Julie Holmes, a New York City-based life coach. "Words can have a dramatic impact on how we feel. If you find yourself regularly using negative words to describe either yourself or your emotions, eliminate those words from your vocabulary for 30 days. Replace phrases like 'I'm having anxiety' with, 'I'm feeling a little off'. Your body will react and respond to the words you use."

3. Celebrate every success

Confident collegiettes take pride in their successes and the hard work that they put in along the way. However, they also have the ability to celebrate the success of others. Diminishing others’ success is a sign of low self-esteem. Don’t let a day pass without acknowledging someone else’s hard work—or your own.

4. Embrace failure

When you don’t do quite as well on an exam as you would have hoped or your professor doesn’t love that essay that you worked really hard on, it is easy to get upset and attempt to forget about the situation as soon as possible. When something doesn’t go as planned, it is difficult to try and view it as a learning experience. "Learn to laugh at yourself and not beat yourself up when things don't go as anticipated. Everything is a process. A learning experience," says Holmes. Confident people understand that sometimes failure is inevitable. They realize that they can gain something from failure if they utilize it as a learning experience instead of a roadblock.

“I used to get really down on myself when I would do something that resulted in failure, but now I try to see it from a more positive perspective,” says Kerry Moore, a sophomore at the University of South Carolina. “I make a list of how I can handle the situation the next time and it makes me feel slightly better about whatever happened.”

5. Look good, feel good

This one is along the lines of “fake it ’til you make it.” If you feel confident about your appearance, you're more likely to feel confident about yourself overall. There is nothing wrong with spending a little extra time on your appearance or your outfit if that is what gives you the extra confidence you need to feel on top of your game. "Take pride in how you look. Looks aren't everything, but we always feel better when we take care of ourselves. Take a little extra time and thought when preparing to present yourself to the world. It will make a difference," says Holmes.

“Wake up early and increase your confidence in the way that makes you feel the most comfortable,” says Valeria Alvarez, a freshman at Keiser University. “For example, in my case, I like to take that little extra time in the mornings to get ready, do my hair and wear some natural makeup that makes me look glowy and put-together. I do this because I have learned to own my style and feel more comfortable in presentations or any other situation when I feel good with myself! Whatever you like to do to feel confident, you should do it for yourself, not for others!”

6. Don’t let others sway you

It's important to listen to others and respect their opinions. However, if you believe in something, it's important that you do not allow your own opinion to be changed in order to conform to that of the group. Confident people know that it's healthy to say no. On a daily basis, make sure that you're standing firm in your beliefs.

7. Surround yourself with positivity

Whether it's people, posters or both, fill your days with positivity. It's difficult to avoid being an empowered collegiette when everything around you is telling you to do so. Your room, especially, should be a place that not only boosts your mood but also your confidence.

“Decorate your room with motivational quotes or pictures that instantly make you feel happy and confident,” says Valeria.

Confidence is beautiful—embrace it!

What You Need to Know Before Dyeing Your Hair for the First Time

$
0
0

We all think about ~dramatic~ transformations sometimes, and adopting a new color can seem like the perfect way to make that change. But if you’ve never dyed your hair before, it can be an overwhelming process to figure out which color to try, what type of dye job to request and where to go to get your money’s worth. Luckily, we’re here to help! We’ve listed out the five things you need to know before booking your appointment so that you can feel confident and empowered in whatever decision you make!

1. Consult a professional before you get your heart set on a color

Top stylist and New York City salon owner Riccardo Maggiore says it’s important to meet with a colorist before treatment. “It is more about science and color theory and less about the color you like,” he says. “Your colorist can analyze your skin tone and find the color that best compliments and highlights your best features.” World-renowned colorist Angelo David Pisacreta agrees, adding that “eye color, bone structure and hair texture…play a role in determining the perfect hair color for an individual.” Of course, if you have a general idea of what you want, feel free to take some sample photos with you to your appointment to help guide the process. Just don't get too attached—your stylist's recommendations might be better than anything you could've dreamed up on your own!

2. Cut your hair before you color

It’s always a good idea to get your hair cut exactly the way you want it before applying color, in order to make sure the overall end result is on par with expectations. A cut will also have an impact on the color application. “Hair type, texture [and] porosity” all influence how the final color will turn out, says Pisacreta, and a haircut can alter some of these qualities.

If you’re aiming to save money, try getting a basic haircut at an inexpensive salon first and then going somewhere more specialized for your color. And while you don’t need to drop your entire paycheck on a dye job, you definitely want to put your trust in someplace reputable for your first go-around.

3. Know all of your options before committing

When it comes to hair dyeing, there are lots of options beyond a total color transformation. If you’re nervous about a drastic change, consider a less-serious switch. Pisacreta recommends highlights if “the client wants a more natural look,” while ombré is a good first step for someone worried about the upkeep and commitment of all-over color. Ombré “will brighten up their hair and create the effect of a natural, sun-lightened look,” says Pisacreta. Maggiore also suggests another first-timer option: bayalage. This technique involves the application of color just on the surface of the hair with more saturation at the tips. “The principle idea behind this technique is of ‘less is more’ giving natural looking color,” he says. “With very little maintenance hair colored with this technique grows out beautifully and more naturally so you don’t get an obvious re-growth line of demarcation and can go longer between appointments.” Demi-permanent color is another option, which Maggiore says “lasts up to 24 shampoos, contains no ammonia and gently deposits only color on the hair.” In contrast, a typical “permanent” hair dye will start to fade after four to six weeks, so consider your commitment level before choosing which process is best for you.

4. Beware of damaging products

One of the best reasons to consult a professional colorist is to figure out what products are the safest and healthiest for your hair type. This is especially important because, as Pisacreta points out, some people may even be allergic to coloring agents. “This is why salon professionals perform a strand test,” he says. “The condition of the hair and its texture are key…we always perform a complete analysis before coloring in order to maintain the hair’s health.” This is also why you should think twice before reaching for a box of drugstore-brand hair color, unless you’re 100 percent certain that there are no chemicals in it that might react badly with your hair type!

5. Don’t forget the post-color care

Once you color your hair, it's natural that you'll want to preserve the investment as long as possible! That's why you should aim to choose products specifically designed for color-treated hair. Maggiore recommends products from “Kérastase Réflection because they are designed to be gentle and protective and help prevent color fade.” The brand's three-step regimen includes items intended to cleanse, treat and prime, and you can find their products at your local salon, Amazon or even Target. But if you're on a stricter budget, John Freida and Redken offer some less expensive options as well—just be sure you choose products that are approved for color-treated hair!

All in all, it never hurts to have your colorist recommend color care products, but don’t feel like you have to spend an extravagant amount. Stick with a couple basic items (like a good, color-protecting shampoo and conditioner) and then continue using whatever styling products you’ve already got!

Changing up your hair color is an easy way to feel refreshed and renewed, and with the semester soon ending, there’s no better time to shake up your look. But if you're thinking about a dye job, be sure to invest in the proper amount of preparation to decide what color, treatment and level of permanence is right for you. We’ve all heard horror stories about botched coloring, so save yourself some stress and anxiety by planning ahead!

How to Stay Healthy at Thanksgiving

$
0
0

Towards the end of the fall semester, every collegiette needs some time for rest and relaxation with her friends and family. Thankfully (pun intended), Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to slow down before finals and end-of-semester projects begin.

With so much delicious food and time to chill out, it’s easy to quickly let your normally healthy habits slip, but it doesn’t have to be that way this year! If you’re looking for simple ways to stay healthy and happy during Thanksgiving break (and avoid that post-feast food coma), read on for suggestions and advice from experts.

To avoid overeating:

Eat breakfast first

It can be tempting to want to “save up” your calories and appetite until it’s time to indulge in your Thanksgiving meal. Unfortunately, this isn’t a smart idea, since you’ll be starving by the time you eat, and it’ll make you more likely to overindulge at dinner.

Dietitian Kathleen Zelman, who is also the director of nutrition for WebMD, says that “eating a nutritious meal with protein and fiber before you arrive takes the edge off your appetite and allows you to be more discriminating in your food and beverage choices.” This doesn’t mean to eat a meal immediately before your Thanksgiving meal, but rather at some point in the morning beforehand.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to start your day off right with a balanced, healthy breakfast to keep you full before your big meal in the late afternoon. Opt for something with protein and fiber, such as oatmeal with nut butter or an omelet or scrambled eggs with toast.

Skip the second helping

If you’re tempted to eat a second plate of food at your Thanksgiving meal, take a second to think about whether or not you’re actually still hungry. Otherwise, you’ll just be consuming additional and unnecessary calories that will leave you feeling overfull. Once you’ve finished your first plate of food, take about a 20-minute break to relax with your family and friends before deciding if you want to load up on seconds.

Don’t forget that eating your Thanksgiving leftovers are often one of the best parts of the holiday!

“Leftovers are much better the next day, and if you limit yourself to one plate, you are less likely to overeat and have more room for a delectable dessert," dietitian Connie Diekman says.

To stay mindful of nutrition:

Drink water

At your Thanksgiving meal, there may be several delicious drinks to choose from, such as hot chocolate, sparkling apple cider or eggnog. These beverages are extremely tempting, but they often contain lots of additional calories, sugar and sodium that you might not be aware of. If you’re drinking several glasses of your preferred drink during your meal, you could be gulping down too much additional sodium, which can leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable.

Since you’ll be eating plenty of other calories during your meal, dietitian Natalie Weiss recommends choosing water as your main beverage in order to avoid drinking any additional calories. There will be so many different food choices, tastes and textures at your meal that you probably won’t even have to drink a flavored beverage to compensate! Drinking water can also help to aid your digestive system and your metabolism by flushing out wastes and toxins from your body that leave you feeling weak. You can also drink water throughout the day before your meal to keep hunger cravings at bay.

Load up on vegetables

With so many food options to choose from, like roasted turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, it can be easy to lose sight of the vegetables at your meal. Even though Thanksgiving is a holiday, it’s no excuse to skip your recommended five servings a day of nutrient-packed veggies.

“Fill half of your plate with green vegetables, a quarter of your plate with starch and the remaining quarter with turkey,” Weiss says.

Offer to help cook

By taking control in the kitchen, you’ll have a say in which foods are prepared for your family. If you’re concerned that there may not be enough healthy choices at your meal, your assistance and input will help to change that (and we’re sure your parents wouldn’t mind the extra help!). This can be as simple as providing a nutritious side dish instead of one that is high in calories and fat. Check out this article on how to make holiday dishes healthier for ideas!

To stay sane:

Take some time to exercise

Exercise may be the last thing on your mind during your break. Regardless, a short amount of light exercise will help you to stay relaxed and focused during your time with family and friends.

Thanksgiving exercise can be as simple as taking a 15-minute stroll around your neighborhood after you’ve eaten. Your family can make the walk fun by bringing along your pets, or you can play games while you’re walking. If you think that your day with be packed with activities, squeeze in a quick morning workout before your guests arrive or before you head out to someone’s house for the meal. Instead of walking, you can also ride your bike around town or do some yoga poses in your room.

These exercises are simply designed to get you moving around instead of sitting all day. Unfortunately, light exercise won’t undo a huge Thanksgiving meal, so don’t let a short walk be an excuse to pig out later. If you’re looking for a workout that will get you sweating more, you can hit the gym or try something fun like registering for a Turkey Trot race with your family.

Keep your focus on your family

Don’t forget about your mental health once Thanksgiving rolls around! Remember that this is the time of the year to unwind and slow down from your normally hectic schedule during the semester, so make sure that you use the time wisely to enjoy with your loved ones.

In regards to worrying about your diet plans instead of family, Weiss says, “Don’t worry about being perfect. You can only do the best you can with what you’ve got. Thanksgiving is a time to have fun, spend time with family and enjoy good food. Don’t stress if your meal is not perfectly healthy. It is okay to indulge a bit, just don’t overdo it.”

Susan Finn, RD, echoes this sentiment. “The main event should be family and friends socializing [and] spending quality time together, not just what is on the buffet,” she says. Remember, Thanksgiving should be more about spending time with your family than the food!

No matter where you’re headed for Thanksgiving this year, it’s important to stay healthy and happy so that you can enjoy your time to the fullest. Enjoy your break, collegiettes!

Taylor Swift LOVES Drake's New Apple Music Ad

This year's AMAs has been a good one for Drake, who picked up his very first AMA ever (and then some). Not to mention, his album, Views, was nominated for 13 awards—which broke the record Michael Jackson set back in 1984.

It's been a night of firsts for the singer, who also debuted his new Apple Music ad featuring none other than... Taylor Swift. Makes sense, because as you'll recall, Taylor jammed out (and fell on her treadmill) to "Jumpman" by Drake and Future.

Drake repaid the favor when he hit the gym and lip-synced Taylor's "Bad Blood," which gave him the courage to attempt the ultimate bench press. (Sadly, he didn't make it.)

Taylor, for her part, LOVED it:

19 Recipes For the 'Gilmore Girls' Fanatic

You know you're jealous of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore's metabolisms. Watching them eat the most delicious (and unhealthy) foods has been inspirational to girls like us who love some good takeout and eating entire cakes in one sitting. In honor of the upcoming Gilmore Girls reboot, we decided to round up snacks worthy of a Gilmore. Munch on these goodies while watching old episodes and waiting not-so-patiently for those new episodes to arrive.

1. Stuff 'n Clutter Snack Mix

We figure that the girls would start out small when it comes to making their own treats for movie night. This one's a savory mix of all your favorites (plus bacon!). We're sure it will disappear in a flash.

2. Walking Nachos

Since the girls are always on the run, whether they're late or just avoiding an awkward Friday night dinner, these convenient and spicy snacks are awesome. Plus, they're cute and small enough to justify seconds…or thirds.

3. Mini Popcorn Balls with Chocolate Fondue

These popcorn balls combine the two best flavors—sweet and salty! They're great for a girls' night in, binge-watching shows and swapping stories. Can't you picture the Gilmore girls snacking on these while doing just that?

4. Nutella Stuffed Pancakes

Luke's Diner has surely added Nutella to the menu by now, right? Though the ladies might opt for less fruit on top, we'll leave that up to you.

5. Homemade Pop-Tarts

When they aren't noshing on diner food for breakfast, Lorelai and Rory usually have Pop-Tarts. Why not try your hand at making your own from scratch?

6. Soft Pretzel Bites

No one can resist these bite-sized snacks while on a trip to the mall; imagine how much better they'd be in the comfort of your own home (where you can eat as many as you want!). Go crazy with the toppings—stick with the savory theme or dip them in something sweet.

7. Hostess Cupcakes

Instead of going all the way to your nearest Dosey's Market for some sweet treats, make your own with ingredients you've already got hiding in your pantry! These cupcakes are just like the tasty store-bought kind, too.

8. Cheesy Bacon Burger Fries

It's like all your favorite items from the diner menu got together for a party. In other words, this recipe is a total dream come true! Instead of ordering crazy chili fries at a fast food restaurant, make these yourself, so you know they'll have exactly everything you like.

9. The Ultimate Burger Dog

Another great example of why diner foods should join forces. This snack does require some grilling, but it's a small price to pay for a great dinner with a fun twist.

10. Pizza Pinwheels

Everyone loves pizza, especially our favorite mother/daughter duo, so why not celebrate that love with a new take on the classic? These snacks are easy enough to make and even easier to pop in your mouth while watching Netflix.

11. Zesty Ranch Fries

Another iconic snack nobody can deny? French fries, and we've got a fantastic spin on those, too! These have a bit of a kick to them, which we think the Gilmore girls (and you) would enjoy.

12. Hot Chocolate Fudge

Here's another gift for your sweet tooth. The best part about this recipe is that you can make it in a microwave—how easy is that? This fudge is perfect paired with a cup of actual hot chocolate, too!

13. Sweet Sushi

You can have dessert sushi—just like the girls did when Lorelai turned the house into Asia—but use a lot less energy to make it. Substitute some of these candies for your favorite candy if you'd like. Regardless, imagine how cute you'll look eating these at home in your robe.

14. Coffee Cake in a Mug

If we know anything about the Gilmore girls' slightly bad habits, it's that they're crazy about coffee. So, they would obviously be obsessed with this easy coffee cake.

15. Mini Corn Dogs

Everyone wants a corn dog when they go to a carnival, but you can bring that novelty to your own kitchen. We know the Gilmore girls would in a heartbeat, especially since these are super easy to make.

16. S'more Cheese Ball

This heavenly hunk of future cavities is great for dipping graham crackers or—as any Gilmore girl would—an even sweeter cookie. Trust us, you'll be hooked on this simple snack!

17. Easy Homemade Egg Rolls

Instead of calling Al's Pancake World, make these yummy egg rolls. You can customize them to fit your taste buds, and you won't have to feel embarassed about how many you would have ordered.

18. Easy Cinnabon Monkey Bread

Monkey bread is a childhood fave for a reason. If you've never had it, this is the recipe to try.

19. Garlic Cheese Bombs

Put your worries of bad breath aside and dig into these adorable and insanely good snacks. You know that your favorite Gilmores would!

The Gilmore gals may not be the most avid cooks, but their taste in food is undeniably delicious. Which of these recipes will you be attempting first?

How She Got There: Janice Beetle, Principal of Beetle Press & Author

Name: Janice Beetle
Age: 52
Job Title and Description: Principal of Beetle Press, a public relations and communications firm in Easthampton, Massachusetts; and an author
College Name/Major: Westfield State University, Bachelor’s in English with a minor in journalism
Website:www.beetlepress.com and www.janicebeetle.com

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Running a small business primarily requires seriously good organizational and people skills. While each new day is a bit different from the last, I can usually be found in meetings—with creative colleagues, prospects or clients—or preparing proposals, conducting interviews with sources and writing or editing articles, blogs, enewsletters and books. I also find time in each week for creative writing; I have published a memoir, called Divine Renovations, and I am working on a second memoir and a work of fiction, both due out in the next year (I hope). I blog about these more creative pursuits at www.janicebeetle.com.

What is the best part of your job?

Without a doubt, it is telling other peoples’ stories. No matter what genre I am working in—whether I’m posting on social media or ghostwriting a full-length book—I love sharing the details of successes, transformations and the poignant, special moments in other peoples’ lives. I feel privileged when people share their thoughts with me and then moved when I craft their stories.

What inspired you to start Beetle Press?

In 1998, I had worked as a journalist for several local newspapers for about 15 years and realized I had amassed writing, editing and graphic design skills as well as a strong network of people in the community who knew and respected me and my work. I had two young daughters in school at the time and wanted a more flexible schedule so that I could spent more time with them, and that meant I needed a new career. I quit my job as a newspaper editor and dove right into crafting a business plan.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

I will call it a “long” mistake as opposed to “one” mistake, as it was an error in thinking that carried on over time. After I graduated from Westfield State and had worked as a reporter for several years, I thought I knew most everything there was to know about writing; I accepted suggestions and advice from editors, but begrudgingly. I didn’t realize that professional learning is ongoing; that we are always learning every day, from everybody, and that we should be eager to learn and embrace what others have to offer. This concept finally took hold over the past few years, in part through work I did with a business coach and in part through collaborations with colleagues I admire.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

In 2005, I was hired by a client to take a full-time job; I continued to run Beetle Press part time, serving two anchor clients, but the pressure for finding work was gone; I was simply doing work. In 2010, I was laid off from the full-time position, and four days later, my husband died. It was a stunning life shift. I felt I was sent back to “go,” and I had no energy for the work of rebuilding my business that loomed ahead of me. I worked nights, weekends, all the time, to redevelop Beetle Press and maintain my lifestyle. But because I caught on to the importance of nurturing learning and professional development, I have grown my business to one that is far stronger than it ever was before. I have control over my life now; this winter, I spent a month living and writing in the South Pacific, and I am sure that summer will find me kayaking and boating on the Connecticut River as well as working in my office.

What advice would you offer to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

Work hard and take your profession seriously; your job is not just a way to kill eight hours during the day. It is your life, your identity, your unique challenge in the world. Do your best work every day; don’t just get it done. And embrace learning from the start. Look for what others can teach you in your life and your work, and take care of all of the relationships you make with colleagues along the way. Be respectful of them, value their opinions, keep in touch with them when you move on to something new and look for the ways you can give back.

The Pope Says All Priests Can Forgive Abortion Now

Pope Francis released a letter Monday saying priests can now forgive the sin of abortion, CNN reports. Previously, only bishops could forgive abortion.

The pope didn’t go so far as to say abortion is okay—the letter states that “abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life.” But it goes on to say that no sin is too big to be forgiven.

According to The New York Times, Catholics who have abortions can be excommunicated unless they confess to the sin and are absolved.

The Associated Press reports that Monsignor Rino Fisichella, a Catholic official, said that forgiveness for an abortion extends to all the people who were involved in the abortion, including doctors and nurses.

Research shows that access to safe, legal abortion benefits women and their families in several ways—it helps women stay healthy, keeps them out of poverty and on track to following their career dreams, and improves the lives of the children they already have. The vast majority of women who have abortions do not regret having the procedure. Most important of all? Access to abortion means women have full control over their own bodies and futures—and that should be a fundamental human right.

A College Woman Tried to Use a Slice of Pizza as ID at a Bar, & That Turned Out About as Well as You’d Expect

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young woman using a slice of pizza as an ID probably shouldn’t be allowed into any more bars. That’s what one woman at UMass Amherst learned the hard way, when she actually tried to present pizza to the doorman at a bar and was, understandably, turned away. She then slapped the doorman in the face, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

This woman was issued a “trespass notice” by the police, meaning she has to stay away from that particular bar. That’s probably best for everyone involved.

Ladies, let’s all agree to help each other out when nights get to this point. If your girl is holding up any object besides her license when you’re trying to get into a bar, it’s time to go home. Friends don’t let friends get in trouble with the police over pizza—it’s highly likely to become an embarrassing national news story.
