14 Things About Rory Gilmore's College Experience That We Can't Relate To

0
0

There's so much about Rory's life and the Gilmore universe that's relatable—all that college application anxiety, Rory's obsession with books, Lorelai's relationship with Emily. And even their eating habits can be pretty realistic, because who doesn't want to eat Chinese food and pizza in the same sitting?

The one thing that sticks out to many Gilmore Girls fans, though, is how unrealistic Rory's college experience was at times, especially to those of us who binge-watched the series from our own dorms. What was it about her college experience that seemed so unrealistic compared to a town like Stars Hollow, where Kirk made shirts about Rory's choice to attend Yale? Here are 14 things that we just couldn't relate to during her Yale days.

1. She gets into every school she applies to, even Ivies

This is technically before she leaves for college, but still. This show gave us such high expectations.

2. Her dorm room

We know there are gorgeous dorms out there, and there are even suite- and apartment-style halls that offer a pretty swanky living environment, but most of them are reserved for upperclassmen and cost extra money to live in, something we think Rory would've at least considered with her financial aid woes before freshman year.

Of course, it is Yale, and Rory's dorm exists in real life. Durfee Hall has been called one of the college dorms with bragging rights, and we aren't surprised, if it's anything like Rory's gorgeous suite. Still, even if Durfee exists in real life, most of us had to live in a double or triple dorm room with barely any space to ourselves, so we just can't relate.

3. Paris showing up as her roommate

What are the odds, even if Paris selected her? Rory didn't select Paris back, because she didn't even know she was going to Yale. Many of us know what it's like to choose a friend as a roommate, but the idea of getting stuck with someone we know but didn't choose? Impossible.

4. Rory's brand new mattress

If you were really picky, you maybe, maybe brought a memory foam mattress topper to put on your bed so you didn't have to think about all the people who'd used it before you. Throwing out the school-supplied mattress in favor of a new one? Nope! The university would definitely charge you for that.

5. The first friend she meets has a crush on her

Okay, so her early college dating experiences are pretty spot-on, but Marty? He's pretty much the first person Rory talks to outside of her roommates, and he crushes on her basically immediately. Everyone crushes on her. We wish we knew what that's like, but sadly, we have to go on many crappy dates like most people.

6. She goes home all the time

We get why this is a thing, and we love seeing Rory and Lorelai together, but come on. Weekends are serious study time, especially if you've got anything going on outside of class, like being a writer for the school paper.

7. She works for, like, one minute

Out of all her time at Yale, we see her swiping cards at the cafeteria. We also see that she works at a bookstore during a college break, and she gets that part-time job at the Stamford Eagle Gazette after her disastrous internship experience. Most people who work part-time during college actually, you know, work. And have to figure out how our work and school schedules will allow time for a social life, not the other way around.

8. Lane lives in Rory's dorm

This is pretty brief, but still. If our best friends had spontaneously moved in and slept on our floors/couches, our roommates would've called the RA to complain within seconds. Those dorms are small enough without an added, unwanted guest.

9. Paris dates a professor

I mean, this happens all the time on TV shows. But we've never seen it happen in real life, especially not with a tenure faculty member with such a reputation to lose. Rory's reaction to it happening, though? Exactly how we'd react.

10. No fire alarms and unexpected RAs

We see Rory's RA in the first episode where she moves in, but then never again. And no fire alarms? Having a fire alarm go off in the middle of the night—or, worse, when you're in the shower—is pretty much a college mainstay. Especially since freshmen can't cook.

11. She drops out and moves into her grandparents' pool house

In a storyline that we all either absolutely love or hate, Rory abandons Yale for a semester and lives at her grandparents' lavish house in Hartford. During this time, she's also dating the gorgeous and ridiculously rich Logan, and she gets a Birkin bag. We wish, but no.

12. She drops out and still graduates on time

Graduating on time at a difficult school like Yale is already hard enough, but Rory missed an entire semester. Without taking any summer classes, when did she have time to make up all those credits? And all without breaking a sweat.

13. She never struggles to get into a class

We all know that the class registration process is the WORST part of college, especially in your first few years when you're last to sign up. We saw Rory get into every class she wanted to take with ease, including "shopping" for classes during her first semester to pick the ones she liked most.

14. She has guys lining up for her

Dean, Jess and Logan all try to get together with Rory during her time at Yale, whether for the first time or the third, and despite the fact that she struggled a little with dating in season four, we just can't relate. Plus, that scene where Logan, Colin and Finn interrupt her class? We couldn't dream of such a hilarious (and semi-romantic) thing happening.

Despite all this, there's so much about Rory's college years that we can relate to, like the way she freaks out before she graduates. If you haven't thought about rewatching the final two episodes the night before graduation, give it a chance. We promise you'll end the night sobbing and wishing you could stay on campus forever.

In The Same Week, Popular Christian Author Came Out—& Fought Back Against Sexism

Glennon Doyle Melton is a Christian author known for her popular blog Momastery, her Oprah-approved book Love Warrior, and now, her relationship with soccer star Abby Wambach. Doyle announced the new relationship on Facebook and Instagram this week, and her lengthy and heart warming post can be summed up by its unofficial title, "Love Wins."

] How are we supposed to FEEL about this? My loves, here is the good news: You are allowed to think and feel WHATEVER YOU NEED OR WANT TO FEEL! Come close--because I need to explain this part well: It has been my job for so long as a leader in this community to care deeply about what you think and feel about me and the way I live my life. I have cared so much, for so long. It has been a great honor. Now we are entering a new time which calls for a different type of leadership. And now it is my job as a leader not to concern myself too deeply about what you think and feel about me- about the way I live my life. That is what I want to model now, because that is what I want for YOU: I want you to grow so comfortable in your own being, your own skin, your own knowing - that you become more interested in your own joy and freedom and integrity than in what others think about you. I want you to refuse to betray yourself. Not just for you. For ALL OF US. Because what the world needs -- in order to grow, in order to relax, in order to find peace, in order to become brave -- is to watch one woman at a time live her truth without asking for permission or offering explanation. The most revolutionary thing a woman can do is not explain herself. What I need you to know- and what I know you need to know- is that I am deeply, finally, FINE. Fine through my bones and soul and mind and just every fiber of me. You have the room to feel and react with your truth….because I am so unshakably certain inside of mine. I have officially become a woman who knows who she is and refuses to betray herself. So anyway. What I’m trying to say is. PRECIOUS WORLD: I LOVE ABBY. Love Wins. G

Doyle Melton, who expected a bit of backlash from her community regarding her new relationship, instead was met with support and praise. But that's not what's on her mind right now. She is more concerned with The Washington Post's story which dubbed her a "mom blogger." Doyle Melton and her followers aren't too keen on this sexist title.

In response to the "mommy blogger" comments, let's not forget the most quotable part of Doyle Melton's post: "the most revolutionary thing a woman can do is not explain herself."

11 Obvious Signs You Have Senioritis

0
0

Ever since you were a freshman, you’ve heard rumors about it: the constant exhaustion, the inevitable procrastination, the desire to rebel against everyone and everything around you…the list goes on. Now that you’re a senior yourself, you can’t help but notice that you’re starting to show some of the symptoms.

With second semester on the horizon, it’s more likely than not that you’ve come down with a case of senioritis. However, if you’re still not sure about it (or just too afraid to admit it) ask yourself if you’re experiencing any of these obvious signs.

1. Sweatpants have become your go-to.

It may only be first semester, but you’ve already mastered the art of the comfy-casual look.

2. Coffee is your new water.

And you wonder how you made it so many years without this stuff.

3. You haven’t worn makeup since homecoming.

You just don’t have that kind of time or energy in the morning like you did freshman year.

4. You take all homework assignments as “suggestions.”

Your teacher can’t honestly think you were going to fill out this study guide, right?

5. You can’t wake up without hitting snooze at least five times.

It happens almost subconsciously.

6. Your first period teacher rarely sees your face.

Actually, you’re not sure if she even knows your name…

7. You haven’t done a reading assignment since the first week of school.

You’re just hoping to fake it ‘til you make it.

8. You’re seriously okay with a C.

You’ve already been accepted to your dream school, so you’re just doing your best not to fail.

9. Your tolerance level for drama is at an all-time low.

Because honestly, ain't nobody got time for that.

10. You can't remember the last time you went a week without having an existential crisis.

Because even though it's less than a year away, you have no idea what you want to do with the rest of your life.

11. Everyone keeps telling you that you have a big ego.

But who can blame you? You’ve been waiting four years for this.

Unfortunately, there is no real cure for the dreaded senioritis until graduation. Let the countdown begin, pre-collegiettes!

A Definitive Ranking of Mindy Lahiri's Exes

0
0

During its 100th episode, which also acted as a fall finale, The Mindy Project left us with yet another cliffhanger: a huge Ben/Mindy fight and possible breakup. Ben feels hurt that Mindy seems ashamed that he is "just a nurse," while Mindy believes Ben isn't living up to his potential. Whether Ben will officially dump Mindy for "not being good enough for her" is still up in the air since we will—unfortunately—have to wait until after the holidays to find out if Mindy is a single pringle again.

Despite the dramatic ending to the episode, Mindy Kaling celebrated her 100th episode in true fashion: a return of the exes! That's right—some of our favorite flashes from the past returned this week including Jamie (B.J. Novak), the pretentious author, and Casey (Anders Holms), the pastor-turned-DJ-turned-shoe-mogul. After the devasting Danny and Mindy breakup last season and the stressful Jody/Danny/Mindy love triangle earlier this season, it was refreshing to revisit some of Mindy's more lighthearted relationships. From the utterly forgettable (anyone remember that Mindy and Jeremy used to hook up?) to the totally dream-worthy (Graham practically invented the man bun), The Mindy Project has given us plenty of eye candy and romance to watch.

Here are all of Mindy's exes—at least the more serious ones—ranked. Let us know if you agree with our list!

17. Josh

Josh is one of a few exes we see make a return this week, although he's probably one of the most forgettable love interests from Mindy's past. Josh appears in the first season (so pre-Danny), and even he admits he doesn't remember most of his and Mindy's relationship. To be fair, he was "high all the time," but either way, we don't miss him at all.

16. Dennis

Although we all love a good Office reunion, Dennis was just a big old bore. But his fall down the stairs will stay in our memories forever.

15. Drew

Drew was Mindy's first serious relationship after Danny, so we're grateful he helped her get over him. But the long-distance thing just wasn't going to work. Plus, he was clearly not invested in hanging out with baby Leo, so Mindy had to kick him to the curb.

14. Neel

Neel and Mindy didn't have a ton of chemistry, but he helped her explore her Indian heritage and culture, which is pretty cool! Even if he did call her a "coconut."

13. Adam

Adam also would have been pretty forgettable, except for the fact that he revealed his occupation as a prostitute at Danny's dinner party. Oops. He was cute though!

12. Graham

Graham was obviously SO not right for Mindy. She even told this skater boy that "her brain gets angry when he talks." However, he was so wonderfully attractive that we were all willing to overlook his flaws.

11. Jamie

There's no doubt that Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak have chemistry on- and off-screen, but Jamie was so obviously in love with his best friend that his relationship with Mindy was destined to go nowhere. However, it was great seeing him reappear this week after being dumped by the girl he left Mindy for. He's now a pretentious "historo-thriller" author who instigates the Ben/Mindy fight with a drunken move on Mindy at a party. He may be funny, but definitely not Mindy-worthy.

10. Jody

Jody is a complicated one since he's so new and still in Mindy's life on the reg. Although he managed to grow as a person since we first encountered him and, not gonna lie, the scruffy beard and Southern charm helped a lot, he and Mindy just didn't have a lot of chemistry, and his traditional views and womanizing ways just didn't fly for us.

9. Jason

Jason is the sophisticated and adorable guy you want, but in the end he just disappoints. He judges Mindy the entire relationship for her tastes, and his snobbery breaks them up. He does get points for offering to play One Direction during sex, which is totally romantic, right?

8. Brendan

Brendan was like the less-charismatic version of Danny. Hot? Yes. A jerk? Also, yes. But he and Mindy had amazing chemistry, and their witty back-and-forth kept things spicy and fun. Ultimately his homeopathic ways and inability to commit led to us seeing less and less of the midwife.

7. Tom

Who doesn't love a dorky Bill Hader? Tom and Mindy dated before the show even began, so they definitely had a history. He was a sweet guy, but after he married another woman and she later left him, he turned into a somewhat pitiful character.

6. Jeremy

So Jeremy was just a hookup buddy all the way back in season one, but out of the men from Mindy's past, he's definitely one of the better ones. He used to be a bit of a womanizer, but we love the goofiness and British charm that he's developed throughout the show. They're definitely not meant for each other, so we're glad the show "forgot" they ever hooked up and now they can just stay friends.

5. Sam

Seth Rogen playing Sam made him one of Mindy's most lovable, funny and laidback boyfriends of all time. A long-lost crush from childhood summer camp, Sam reconnects with Mindy for one day, and they have a totally rom-com-worthy experience. If Sam hadn't been in the Army and shipped off, he and Mindy could have definitely blossomed into something more serious. #BringBackSam!

4. Cliff

Cliff was definitely one of Mindy's longer relationships and for good reason. Cliff was responsible, had a good job and was an all-around great guy. He had two problems, though: 1) his fear of divorce kept him from fully trusting Mindy and 2) Danny's obvious jealousy. Cliff could have been a good match for Mindy, but he didn't hold a candle to Danny in the end.

3. Casey

Considering Casey and Mindy were engaged at one point, he's definitely one of her more serious relationships. He was fun, kind, generous and definitely the coolest pastor in the world. He and Mindy encouraged each other and made each other better people, even if she was reluctant to go all the way to Haiti for volunteer work. However, he ended up being even too crazy for Mindy, who needs someone to level her out. After becoming a DJ and then a shoe mogul, and then returning last season with a mess of awful tattoos (pizza rat, really?), we can definitely say we miss the old Casey.

2. Ben

Okay, so Ben is kind of a huge bore. Since he emerged at the beginning of the season, voiding Mindy's decision to stay single for a while, he simply hasn't provided the kind of charisma and chemistry that we normally see in a Mindy Project romance. But he is probably Mindy's most responsible and level-headed boyfriend; he's also a single parent, works in the same field and handles most of her crazy antics with patience. If he sticks around (after that huge fight, who knows!), hopefully we will see more of his funny side to determine if he's "the one."

1. Danny

There's no denying that Danny has his issues, and after the way he treated Mindy in the last season, we can't say we miss him all that much. But there's also no denying that no relationship has had the intensity, passion, love and spark that's between Mindy and Danny. Before he went off to California and ruined his relationship with Mindy, he was the jerk we loved to hate, the guy who was always there to comfort Mindy and a sexy-as-hell dancer. Mindy and Danny are officially over, which is good, but it remains to be seen if she'll find a relationship with the same connection that she had with Danny Castellano.

Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel & Jared Padalecki Reportedly Dated Back in the Day

Diehard members of Team Jess, look away! Life & Style is reporting that Alexis Bledel and Jared Padalecki, who played on-screen sweethearts Rory Gilmore and Dean Forester throughout Gilmore Girls' run, dated IRL. Let the shock set in, and then we'll resume…

It's quite well known that Alexis Bledel dated Milo Ventimiglia—aka Jess Mariano, the bad boy who stole Rory's heart away from her first BF, Dean. There are cute pictures of them all over the internet. But it seems Alexis wanted to keep her alleged relationship with Jared a bit more hush-hush, since this info is just now coming to light.

Life & Style spoke with the show's casting director, Mara Casey, who revealed the quiet romance. "We did have a joke about casting all of Alexis’ [real-life] boyfriends," she said. "She dated Jared and Milo (Ventimiglia). And she also dated a young New York actor named Chris Heuisler, who played a guest role. Real sweet kid."

This third guy she mentions, Chris Heuisler, only appears in one episode in season two, so we think we can skip over analyzing the significance of that.

If Alexis and Jared did date, this adds a whole new dimension to the Jess vs. Dean debate that played out on screen over seasons two and three—and even dragged on into late season four. So excuse us if we're looking for every sign of Rory's not-so-pretend chemistry with Dean when the Gilmore Girls revival hits Netflix on November 25.

MAC Cosmetics X Mariah Carey Is the Sparkly Makeup Line of Your Dreams

We know what we want for Christmas this year: every glamorous and glittery item in Mariah Carey's new line for MAC. The 23-piece collection will include MAC's best-selling Lipstick (with Mariah's signature butterflies branded on the bullets), as well as glosses, pencils, powders, foundation, shimmery brushes and more. Some of the items are named after Mariah's hit songs, including "Touch My Body" (a body powder) and "All I Want" (a lipstick). To top off the good news, each product comes in a blingy gold and silver packaging that will blind you make you really, really happy.

"I was really excited for this project because it's something I've always wanted to do," Mariah told InStyle. "I love MAC, I always have, and this is all stuff I will be wearing myself both onstage and everyday. The team really let me express myself creatively through this, and it was almost like writing a song. As a songwriter, all of the little details you put in make the end result what it is, and this was a very similar creative process." Hopefully this means we can expect more of Mariah the beauty guru in the future, but for now, we can't wait to get our hands on these glittery glam tools!

The line will be available online December 8 and in stores December 15. We'll be waiting by our laptops.

A Man Punched a Woman In the Face At a Restaurant Over the Election

On Saturday night, an alleged Trump supporter punched an unidentified 49-year-old woman in the face at a restaurant in Brooklyn. Restaurant staff and multiple witnesses at Bar Tabac in Boerum Hill saw the woman get punched while she was eating with a friend. The manager on duty that night, Jonas Leon, says the two women were discussing the election results when a man nearby began an argument with them.

The man asked Leon if he would kick the women out for their political opinions. Leon wouldn't, but he moved the man to another table. The man paid and left—only to come back in and punch the woman he had been arguing with. Leon told the Huffington Post, "The guy came back almost running, and he started pushing some customer and the high-chair next to him with the baby because he couldn’t reach the girl, then he punched the girl."

Witness Katie Nave Freeman told DNAInfo that while she was eating in the restaurant she heard shouts of "call 911," and saw a woman holding her hands over her face.

NYPD has confirmed the assault and says the woman denied medical assistance. No arrests were made, though Gothamist reports that people chased the man and before he jumped in his car and drove away. The restaurant posted a statement on Facebook to show support for the woman and take a stand against the violence that occurred.

Since election day, acts of violence resulting in the election of Donald Trump have been on the rise. Not only are people arguing about the election results themselves, but many Trump supporters seem to feel that they can now act on their opinions against certain racial and religious minority groups. Trump himself told the people hate crimes in his name to "stop it" during his 60 minutes interview on Sunday.

The Live-Action 'Beauty and the Beast' Trailer is Almost Identical to the Original Animated Trailer

Can we just talk about how amazing the new, live-action Beauty and The Beast is going to be? Our inner child is screeching. Just watch this trailer. The first time we watched it, we got chills. Mostly because Emma Watson is flawless but also because of the intricacy and amazing technology that undoubtedly went into creating this film. What's even better is that the new trailer almost exactly mirrors the trailer from the 1991 version of the film. Movie Pilot created a video that compares the two trailers frame-by-frame, and it's incredible.

AMAZING, right? It warms our hearts to see that the creators of the new Beauty and the Beast are still paying homage to the original. They included the infamous rose petal scene and the exact same dialogue as the original. Millennials are beyond excited for the new movie to premiere; the trailer got 127.6 million views just in its first day of release online, Cosmopolitan.com reports.

Knowing that the kids growing up now who haven't seen the animated version will get to experience an almost identical version makes us so happy. Disney, you rock.

Some Students & Faculty at UVA Are Upset That Their University President Keeps Quoting Thomas Jefferson

The University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, is in the middle of a dispute over the use of Jefferson as a source of inspiration during this trying post-election time, according to the Washington Post. Jefferson is known as the "Father of the University of Virginia," but some students and faculty don't think he's someone to be admired.

Jefferson wrote "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence, but he also owned slaves. He likely had a nonconsensual affair with one of his slaves. While some see Jefferson as a slave owner who needs to be condemned, he's long been celebrated as a founding father, especially at the institution he created.

Faculty members and students at UVA are talking about this complex legacy again. University President Teresa Sullivan emailed students after Trump's victory to remind them to take responsibility for their actions. In the email she chose to quote Jefferson's assertion that UVA students "are not of ordinary significance only: they are exactly the persons who are to succeed to the government of our country, and to rule its future enmities, its friendships and fortunes." She's used Jefferson quotes in several other emails to the community as well.

After that email was sent out, Assistant Professor of Psychology Noelle Hurd wrote an open letter to Sullivan, which was signed by more than 400 students and faculty. The letter asked that the president not use Jefferson's quotations because he was a slaveholder with morally repugnant beliefs. "Although some members of this community may have come to this university because of Thomas Jefferson’s legacy, others of us came here in spite of it," Hurd wrote. She ended the letter by saying, "For many of us, the inclusion of Jefferson quotes undermines the messages of unity, equality, civility, and inclusivity that you are attempting to convey."

On Monday, President Sullivan responded, "In my message last week, I agreed with Mr. Jefferson’s words expressing the idea that UVA students would help to lead our Republic. He believed that 200 years ago, and I believe it today." She also reminded students and faculty that quoting some of Jefferson's words doesn't mean she endorses everything he ever said or did.

This New 'Gilmore Girls' Spoiler Suggests You Should Bet On Team Logan

With the majority of Gilmore Girls fans in the Team Jess camp, we kind of figured Rory ending up with Jess, whether by the end of the Gilmore Girls revival or just as endgame in general, was a given. But it appears we've underestimated the power of Logan Huntzberger.

In this week's Gilmore-centered Entertainment Weekly cover story, Matt Czuchry, Logan's portrayer, reveals that while he's happy Rory didn't accept Logan's proposal at the end of season seven, he's an even bigger fan of the ending Rory and her college sweetheart get in the Netflix revival. "In the original series, I was happy that Rory said no to Logan because I feel like, at that particular time, it wasn’t right for Rory to get married to anybody, and it shows her strength and her independence, which has always been I think a very powerful theme of the show. I love that ending for the original series.”

“In terms of where things are at the end of these four chapters for Logan and Rory, it’s pretty special. I’ll say that,” Czuchry adds. “It’s very, very special.”

Your guess is as good as ours for what that means, but it seems to point toward reconciliation or at least an amiable relationship between the pair. Regardless, it's probably best not to jump to conclusions until we've seen the revival in its entirety. Until then, this info will most definitely be keeping us up at night.

5 Simple Ways to Curate the Perfect Instagram Feed

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Diary of a Toronto Girl, an InfluenceHer Collective member. Read the full post here.

There’s more to having a great Instagram feed than just having a bunch of nice photos. You might have heard of this thing called an “Instagram aesthetic”, and I’m here to teach you how to create the perfect one.

1. Create an attractive and informative bio

Let’s say someone comes across one of your photos in their “Explore” tab and decides to click on your profile to see more. The first thing they’re going to see is your bio, and it’s going to be one of the things that dictates whether they decide to follow you or not. Try not to make it too wordy and try not to use too many emojis – it looks really busy and it’s difficult to read. I prefer the minimalistic look and I don’t like using emojis:

▵ portfolio: jessicailam.com

Another important part of writing bios is to make it as informative yet condensed as possible. You want people skimming through profiles to get the info they want right away.

2. Have a theme

Ah, the theme – the most important part of the Instagram aesthetic. The easiest way to implement this on your feed is to edit your photos all in the same way, so they look as cohesive as possible. I love using VSCO because you can copy and paste edits onto other photos. As you can see here, I incorporate a warm colour scheme with burgundy graphics. For my personal account, I incorporate themes in rows of three, which I explain how to do here.

3. Don't post too similar pictures one after the other

Unless you’re an Instagram girl or a makeup artist, don’t upload two selfies in a row – it just looks strange. Also be wary of the photos above, below, and beside each other. Split up your feed by having a variety of photos, whether it be selfies, food photos, flat lays, or nature shots. It makes your feed look a lot more interesting and it makes you look like you know what you’re doing.

The Spice Girls Love Feminist Rants As Much As We Do

0
0

The Spice Girls, the ultimate '90s girl-power group, have always been an inspiration, but now they're going viral. A video of one of their Polaroid commercial shoots resurfaced recently, and feminists everywhere are giving them a round of applause for what happened off-camera.

In the commercial, the Spice Girls act as Catholic school girls that have just gotten kicked out by nuns because of some scandalous pics. The behind-the-scenes video shows a man who was working on the shoot telling the girls that they should show more skin in their uniforms. First of all, how realistic is a skin-baring Catholic school uniform? Secondly, how do men still not understand that women can be sexy without showing their legs, stomachs and breasts?

Melanie Brown claps back at the man's request, saying, "Why did you ask that, to have a cleavage shirt and a midriff shirt?" He replies that it's "every man's fantasy," which gets an appropriate "f*ck off" response from Brown.

Then Gerri Halliwell and Victoria "Posh" Adams step in. Halliwell calls the man a "chauvinistic pig," and Adams pulls his sunglasses off his head—because wearing sunglasses when it isn't sunny is not cool. Not even in the '90s.

Even after all of this, the men still seem to be confused as to why on earth a woman would ever refuse their request to show skin. So the girls continue their feminist rant. "Have you not heard 'less is more,' anyway?" Halliwell asks.

To finish the men once and for all, Brown says, "He's the one who said, 'Can we have a bit of cleavage and midriff?' And we said, 'No.' Girl power!"

That's right. Remember, ladies: only you are in control of your body. Don't let anyone tell you what you should and should not wear. Never let yourself be judged by whether you decide to show skin or not. GIRL. POWER.

Look Inside ModCloth's Size-Inclusive First Store

As a plus-size collegiette, it can feel nearly impossible to find flattering and trendy clothing in stores and boutiques. Often, we're left to shop from plus-size friendly online shops, knowing they won’t leave us feeling defeated after desperately sifting through clothing racks for something that fits. ModCloth, however, has always acted as a beacon of hope for women of all sizes and shapes. The company, which has remained online-only for 14 years, has finally decided to make all of our dreams come true by announcing the opening of its first physical location in Austin, TX, according to Refinery29. Unlike most other stores, every item of clothing at ModCloth’s brick-and-mortar store will come in sizes 00 through 28/30.

This opening comes after the success of the ModCloth IRL Tour, when pop-up shops opened across the country.

“The store model itself is a hybrid of a showroom and a traditional store, where the majority of the apparel and shoes are samples that [the customer] tries on,” ModCloth CEO Matt Kaness tells R29. That means that most items will be available for ordering, rather than immediate purchase. Items that will be available for "cash-and-carry" will be primarily "non-apparel," Kaness says.

Despite the many differences between the ModCloth store and other retail locations, Kaness is confident that the company will succeed with this method. “We didn’t see much, if any, resistance to our fit-and-ship showroom concept, as long as the order gets there within a day or two after the in-store purchase,” he says.

While the company’s first store is exclusive to Texas, Kaness confirmed that ModCloth stores will expand to other locations in the future. Until then, check out all of the amazing body-inclusive fashions on the brand's website.

8 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Workout

Don’t wimp out on your workouts this winter, collegiettes. With the colder months quickly approaching, it’s easy to feel like your motivation to do anything ––much less, exercise–– is slipping away. However, say goodbye to your end-of-year slump! We’ve consulted current college women to give you the best tips on how to motivate yourself to hit the gym.

1. Find an exercise routine you enjoy

The cardio fad is believed by many to be the easiest form of exercise for quick results. But, this is just not the case. Cardio is a good form of exercise, but shouldn’t be your only form of exercise, as it will cause you to plateau on your fitness journey ––not to mention, it can be boring AF in comparison to other forms of exercise.

Find a fitness routine that not only makes you look good, but also makes you feel good. Exercise should improve not just your body but your life as a whole, and many young women carry around the misconception that looking better on the outside is more important than feeling better on the inside.

For Emily DiNuzzo, a senior at Pace University, having fun is most important. “My number one tip is to do something you enjoy,” she says. “If you absolutely hate running on the treadmill, then you are less likely to be motivated to go to the gym. Find something you truly enjoy ––yoga, dancing, weight lifting, Pilates–– and you will WANT to work out.” It’s all about doing what makes you happy!

2. Set small, achievable goals

While it’s important to have a long-term fitness goal, setting shorter, more achievable goals along the way is important too. This way, your end goal won’t seem so far out of reach or impossible.

Two-week periods work as a great timeline for short-term goals. These goals can be anything that works for you personally. Whether it be losing a certain amount of pounds, going to the gym four times each week or running a mile every day, celebrate each small goal you achieve. Buy yourself a new fitness outfit! It’ll make you feel good and revamp the motivation that’s already there.

3. Learn about your diet and exercise

Being healthy is about so much more than changing the number on the scale. It has to be a complete lifestyle change ––and one that’s for the better!

If you want to be motivated to workout, become informed on the routine you are trying to adapt into your lifestyle. Do some research and learn about the techniques involved, what you should (and shouldn’t) be eating and how to properly recover.

4. Don’t dwell on negative thoughts

Every workout, no matter how long or short, is better than no workout at all. Some days, you honestly may not feel up for a high intensity fitness routine ––and that’s okay! Don’t beat yourself up on what you didn’t do. Instead, celebrate what you did do.

Emily loves to remind herself why she’s exercising when she feels her motivation starting to slip. “Why are you going to the gym in the first place? To lose weight? To get stronger? To prep for a race?” she encourages collegiettes to ask themselves. “Remind yourself of this goal (your motivation) and how the gym/your workout will help you achieve it.” We completely agree.

5. Sleep in your gym clothes

No, we aren't talking about napping in your sweaty gym clothes after a workout session. Put on your gym clothes at bedtime the night before you plan to go and wake up ready to get fit!

This is exactly what Elana Glaub, a junior at Northwestern University, does all the time. "I sleep in my gym clothes and pack a bag of my school clothing the night before so I can shower and change at the gym," Elana says. "This way, when I wake up in the morning, I literally have no excuse!" Even if you wake up tired, you'll be instantly motivated by default.

6. Schedule out your workouts ahead of time

Staying organized is beneficial for so many reasons and can also be a great motivational tool. On Sunday night, sit down and pencil in your weekly workout times into your planner.

Margeaux Biché, a junior at Barnard College, maintains this ritual religiously. "I definitely recommend deliberately scheduling out time you're going to spend working out," she says. "Literally write it down in your planner or log it into your phone or computer's calendar." Margeaux also shares that she pays ahead of time for any fitness classes she takes, and you should do the same! It's a great tip for motivation because, let's face it ––we're all broke AF in college and definitely don't want to waste a single penny.

7. Think about how you'll feel afterwards

Elle Woods taught all of us that working out releases endorphins, and endorphins make people happy! Even the smallest exercise can set you in a positive direction for the rest of the day. While it may seem ideal to skip your workout after a long day, keep in mind that exercising has never made anyone's day worse, only better.

Rachel Petty, a senior at James Madison University, always reminds herself of this. "When I do workout, the way I motivate myself is by thinking about how good I feel afterward," she says. "The feeling of a hot shower after a workout is the best, even when it's cold out!" We couldn't agree more.

Margeaux shares similar feelings. "I think of working out as a super refreshing, rejuvenating way to relieve myself of school stress and take my mind off campus," she says. "This one works well if you run off campus or maybe go to a yoga studio or other workout facility that is a little ways away! For me, working out turns into a really great escape this way." The gym is an awesome escape from all the chaos that comes with college life and can be an easy way to clear your head.

8. Get yourself to the gym

The physical act of getting yourself to the gym is usually the most difficult part. Once you're there, you'll get immediate motivation just by the surrounding environment (and the cutie lifting weights by the treadmills). Seeing other people getting their sweat on is a great motivator to get yourself moving, too.

Catherine Lowe, a senior at Winthrop University, gets her motivation from the cute guys she sees at the gym. "It keeps me distracted from not having a boyfriend," she says. Honestly, sometimes good quality eye-candy is all a girl needs.

It’s time to lose the excuses, ladies. No matter the weather, your schoolwork or any additional responsibilities you have on your plate, there is always time to prioritize your health. Get motivated, get dressed and get to the gym. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

This Is the Pokemon Clothing Line You Never Asked For

We have to admit that when we first downloaded Pokémon Go, our first thought wasn’t that Charmander would be the inspiration for a beautiful dress. Designer Prabal Gurung, on the other hand, had a vision for the cartoon creatures that none of us could have predicted. When we heard about the Prabal Gurung X Pokémon collection, we were half-expecting the designer to take a more literal approach to the collection in a Moschino-esque fashion. Gurung, however, has proved us wrong with his high-fashion take on the iconic characters.

The collection, which consists of eight unique pieces, is available exclusively at Jeffrey New York starting today. You’ll be able to choose from a wide range of items, including printed dresses, colorful cropped sweaters, and vibrant pencil skirts.

While Gurung’s collection is a stunning and innovative take on the beloved cartoon and video game, you most likely won’t be able to catch ‘em all. Shirts are at the "low" end of the spectrum, retailing for $325, whereas the other garments can cost you anywhere from $895 to $1,795. Ouch. Let's hope our fave high street stores pick up on the trend soon, so we can all look as adorable as Pikachu and as fire as Charmander.

I Have ADHD & My GPA Doesn't Define Me

Growing up with ADHD, I knew I would never be the student who brought home straight As or the valedictorian of my class. Instead of first place, my closet was full of participation awards and weird little stories and pictures. In class, I found comfort retreating into my own world instead of trying to keep up as my classmates learned their times tables. I knew I would get another C, or maybe even a B on my tests, but it would never be an A. Why try?

As the years progressed and I found myself in middle school, I was put in honors because standardized testing showed that I "excelled," but I never saw it. I was constantly surrounded by students who could recite the definition of a polar bond or name the battle that was fought in Tennessee in the Civil War. As I watched my peers excel, I prayed that my teachers wouldn't see me, but they did. And each time, I stared at my desk waiting for someone to shout out the answer.

The only time I ever wanted to participate was in English where I could share my stories and choose books to read. When I moved on to high school, I began to read so fast that teachers stopped letting me bring my assigned novels home. I started to find that I not only understood but excelled in my English classes. For the first time, I was the star student and that realization gave me something to cling on to.

However, English wasn't the only subject. I still had to go to my math, science and history classes. My confidence would plummet as the hours dragged on. English had proven to me that I wasn't stupid, so why couldn't I keep up with everyone else?

As my high school years came to a close, guidance counselors and college prep speakers preached of the importance of a high GPA and class rank. I knew I wasn't at the top of the class, but I was hit with a hard realization when I finally looked at my GPA. My dream of going to a big school far away was crushed.

As I sat down with the small list of schools I could get into I realized I wasn't enough. My GPA wasn't high enough, my class rank wasn't good enough and I wasn't smart enough.

With that mindset, I started the beginning of my freshman year at Francis Marion University without any sense of direction. I suffered through Chemistry and Biology, which eagerly reminded me of how little I knew. However, as always, there was one class that brightened my day. As I walked into English I could feel the nervousness building up in my stomach. Yeah, I had been great at English in high school, but this was college. Would I be smart enough?

Four years later, I can now say that I was more than enough. Through my years as an English major I've learned that my way of thinking and learning doesn't mean I'm stupid, only that I'm different. I've been lucky enough to be in a department that has celebrated diversity and teaches not only through exams but experiences. Through FMU, I've had the opportunity to travel abroad and to live alone in a foreign country. I've been able to work with wonderful people who encourage me to follow my heart and my passion. Yes, I still struggle with paying attention. No, I still don't know what a polar bond is. And no my GPA isn't perfect, but that's okay.

All of my experiences have taught me something that I could never learn in the class room. I've learned that there are more important things in life than making straight As or making the Dean's list. While those things will definitely help people out there in the real world, there are other things that people look for in employees.

I may not have a 4.0, but I'm driven. Instead of depending on my brain for years, I had to get to know people and find ways to make my dreams become a reality by creating my own path. Yes, it's been difficult, and I've hit many road blocks. But I've learned how to talk to people and work hard to make my dreams possible. It's taken a few years but after many all-nighters and pushing to be recognized, my dream is starting to become my reality (without a 4.0 GPA to boot). I now look at my mediocre GPA as a gift. I know exactly what I want, and I make it happen no matter what. The most important lesson I've learned is that I'm more than my GPA.

Officer Charged With Manslaughter in Death of Philando Castile

The Minnesota officer who shot and killed Philando Castile during a traffic stop in July was charged with second-degree manslaughter and two felony counts of dangerous discharge of a firearm on Wednesday, CNN reports.

Castile’s death spread across social media when Castile’s fiancée, Diamond Reynolds, live-streamed the incident on Facebook.

Castile was pulled over for resembling a suspect in a gas station robbery that had taken place earlier in the day. When Castile told the officer that he was carrying a firearm, and had the permit to do so, the officer told Castile not to pull out the gun. Despite Castile saying that he was not going to pull out his gun, the officer shot Castile seven times. Castile was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi explained that after 19 weeks of considering the circumstances of the shooting, as well as evidence gathered by investigators and the need for community transparency, Choi knew that he had to make the charging decision, USA Today reports.

"I have given officer Yanez every benefit of the doubt on his use of deadly force, but I cannot allow the death of a motorist who was lawfully carrying a firearm under these facts and circumstances to go unaccounted for," Choi said.

Choi further said, “Philando Castile did not exhibit any intent, nor did he have any reason to shoot officer Yanez. In fact, his dying words were in protest that he wasn't reaching for his gun. There simply was no objective threat posed to officer Yanez, (his partner) or anyone in that car.”

The city of Falcon Height said in a statement: “We have heard concerns since the shooting of Mr. Castile from residents and non-residents about issues involving current law enforcement procedures in our community, and we will continue to work diligently to review and address those concerns.”

Students Across the Nation Are Calling For Sanctuary Campuses

Students from college campuses across the nation planned to walk out of class on Wednesday to persuade their schools to become sanctuary campuses that protect undocumented students from being subject to deportation.

The protests come only a week after the election of Donald Trump, who, throughout his campaign, said that the deportation of undocumented individuals would be a priority if he were to assume office.

According to CNN, the idea of a sanctuary campus stems from sanctuary cities, who have been known to fight back against federal immigration enforcement.

Students have created petitions asking their universities to support undocumented students, some asking their universities for specific guarantees like not releasing students’  immigration status or university police to not assist the federal government in deportation.

According to The Huffington Post, Movimiento Cosecho, a recently formed immigrant rights group, was the group who coordinated Wednesday’s walk outs. Thaís Marques, a political science graduate student at Rutgers University - Newark, said that they want college campuses to adopt sanctuary campus policies.

“It’s [also] to show this country that young people are resisting against Donald Trump’s hatred and racism and xenophobia,” Marques told HuffPost.

Movimiento Cosecho was aware of at least 54 scheduled protests on Wednesday, including protests at NYU and Harvard, HuffPost reports.

However, the questions remains of whether universities have the authority to adopt such policies, but it could have a symbolic impact that universities are promoting inclusivity and promote education regardless of citizenship status.

“We’re already seeing that immigrant students aren’t exactly in a safe place on campus, so it really is the responsibility of the university to do something about that,” Marques said. “Young people are going to lead the way to create real structural changes so that policies created by Donald Trump won’t have an effect on the most vulnerable people.”

This Clothing Line Is Perfect for Every Nasty Woman

Plenty of "nasty woman" merchandise surfaced after the third presidential debate when Donald Trump used the epithet to belittle Hillary Clinton. Now that Trump has won the presidential election, much more merch is popping up all over. The Outrage, a brand that aims to “connect with others who support equality and smash limits, stereotypes and barriers,” has jumped on the bandwagon by creating a clothing line named "Pantsuit Nation" whose full proceeds go to Planned Parenthood. That's right—100 percent of the proceeds benefit the organization. The collection includes shirts, mugs, bags and more, all at affordable prices.

The brand already has a "Nasty Women Unite" collection, whose proceeds are donated to Planned Parenthood under Donald Trump's name.

Rebecca Funk, co-founder of The Outrage, told The Huffington Post why the site wanted to take a stand. “Like so many, we think it’s long overdue to have a woman in the Oval Office and we were heartbroken when Hillary was not elected,” Funk said. “She is a long-time champion of women’s rights and we wanted to honor and carry forward the important work she has done on our behalf.”

This is such an amazing initiative for collegiettes who are #StillWithHer and want to protect women's rights under the Trump presidency.
