Men Drop Out of Male Birth Control Study Because of Mood Swings and Acne

$

0

In an innovative study done on human males (rather than, you know, male rats or hamsters or whatever), it was discovered that male birth control via the injection of a contraceptive was 96 percent effective, Broadly reports.

The study was of “320 healthy men in monogamous relationships with female partners.” Subjects were injected every eight weeks with artificial testosterone, which basically tricks the body into stopping the production of actual testosterone. The injection works to suppress “spermatogenesis,” or basically when sperm mature into baby-making sperm. Science!

The study ended early, however, when it was found that test subjects experienced some less-than-fun side effects. These included “injection site pain, muscle pain, increased libido and acne," according to Science Daily. Twenty men dropped out of the study because of these side effects, and eight of the 20 reported “mood disorders.” Any of this sound familiar, uterus-having friends??

Well, what do you know—it’s hard to be held completely responsible for the potential creation of babies! And it's even harder when you're experiencing pain and mood swings. I wonder if there are any experts who might have first experience with this topic…maybe...women who have been menstruating and dealing with hormonal birth control for years?

Although more research needs to be done in order to work out the kinks and bring this form of male contraception into popular use, Science Daily says that more than three-fourths of the participants said they'd be willing to use the birth control by the end of the trial.

For real though, it’s awesome that science is making a more legitimate foray into male contraception, and for many reasons! The success of male birth control would lessen the burden placed on women to prevent unintended pregnancies (and maybe even change some of the debate on abortion), and male birth control is simply a necessary reality of a gender-equitable world. Now more men just have to learn to deal with shitty side effects.

Which Beauty Item You Should Splurge On, Based on Your Sign

There’s a whole world of beauty products out there just waiting to be tried, but as collegiettes, we don’t necessarily have the time or money to try them all. It can be nearly impossible to decide whether to go all out on some matte lipstick or drop cash on killer mascara, so instead of making that impossible decision, try turning to the stars. Here are beauty products you should splurge on based on your zodiac sign.

Aries: NARS Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide Set

You’re adventurous and up for trying new things, so try this latest lip trend! Matte lipstick is so in, and this new product simplifies a classic runway technique of pressing and blotting lipstick onto the lips and blurring the edges. This product has a creamy matte lipstick on one end and a rubbery, eraser-like tip on the other to blur and smudge the edges. Give it a try!

Taurus: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

You’re reliable and patient, so you deserve a reliable beauty product. We recommend you try Kat Von D’s felt-tip eyeliner. It flows steady and creates a smooth continuous line without tons of effort or frustration. Create sharp lines wings and straight lines in no time at all.

Gemini: Lipstick Queen’s Oxymoron collection

An adaptable and versatile Gemini should have equally nifty beauty products, so try this lipstick and blush combo product! Rub a little on your cheeks and then swipe a little across your lips for an easy yet beautiful touch.

Cancer: Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand

We love that you’re so emotional and loving, Cancer. You may be worried about your sensitive soul and crying eyes, but we’ve found a beauty product to help! This magical little eye wand will cover any red and puffy eyes or dark circles underneath after a night of crying while watching Grey’s Anatomy.

Leo: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

For the generous Leo, we suggest you invest in these super pigmented lipsticks. This matte lipstick is rich, long-wearing and super beautiful! Check out all of those amazing and bright colors. Get creative with your lip color, Leo!

Virgo: Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel

The modest Virgo doesn’t need much in her makeup bag, but we love this brow mascara from Benefit. Thick, well-sculpted brows are so in, so now is the time to invest in a great brow mascara that squares off brows and fills in gaps without clumping or creating dark spots.

Libra: YSL Mon Paris Eau de Parfum

For you, charming and romantic Libra, we suggest you invest in a beautiful and romantic scent. This perfume is inspired by the romantic city of Paris and includes scents of berries, citrus, pear, white flowers, amber and patchouli, and not to mention the Datura flower, a hallucinogenic plant historically used in witches' brews. Love potion, much?

Scorpio: Christian Louboutin 'Rouge Louboutin' Nail Colour

The forceful, emotional and intuitive Scorpio, we suggest this high fashion nail polish harder, stronger, shinier surface than regular polish. Pick a color to match your personality, and you’re set! We’re thinking red is probably your color.

Sagittarius: Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo

Sagittarius, you’re optimistic and freedom-loving self may not have time for a shower every day with such an adventure-packed schedule, so you should invest in a good dry shampoo. This product has a powder formula that absorbs oil, dirt and odor quickly, without having to get your hair wet.

Capricorn: CLINIQUE Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup

For the practical and prudent Capricorn, we suggest you invest in this acne fighting foundation. It’s practical to invest in makeup that not only accentuates your features, but also puts in the work to keep you looking flawless. Besides, with such a multi-tasking personality, it only makes sense that your makeup would do the same.

Aquarius, you are friendly, honest and loyal, and such a perfect combination deserves an equally well-rounded beauty product. This lip tint is an oil, stain and a gloss. The oil-based formula hydrates like a balm but has the shine and feel of a gloss. Plus it’s perfectly paired with any beauty look!

Pisces: Make Up for Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation

For the sensitive and compassionate Pisces, we suggest you invest in this invisible cover foundation. This full-coverage formula is creamy and hydrating and covers any blemish you may want to hide, while keeping you feeling polished and fabulous.

There you have it, collegiettes! The stars have spoken. We want to hear about your beauty experience. What’s your favorite beauty product to splurge on?

Khloe joins the roundup of best-dressed celebrities this year but do not worry, she’s not the only Kardashian on the list. Kourtney killed it as a killer bride (lol, get it?), Kendall was a goth queen, and Kylie stunned as Christina Aguilera.

Rumors about who Prince Harry is dating and when he will get married have been circulating for years, so take this one with a grain of salt. But, according to Cosmopolitan and many sources, the 32-year-old prince may be dating actress Meghan Markle, most known for her role of Rachel in Suits, for real.

While no one has officially confirmed this, a source told the Sunday Express that Prince Harry has been trying to “keep the relationship quiet” but that he’s “happier than he’s been” in many years. Apparently, the pair met back in May while Markle was filming suits in Toronto and the prince was there promoting the Invictus Games.

Why I Don't Think Any Woman Should Vote for Donald Trump

I was just getting up from my seat to transfer buses on my way back to campus from work last week when an older guy suddenly got in my face. “You’re smokin’ hot, you know that?” he said, loud and proud, in front of the bus full of people. “You a real fine piece of ass.” Despite the volume of his voice, the vile content of his speech and the fact that he was now so close to me I could smell his breath, the other passengers only paid attention with mild interest to see how I would react. I felt myself turn beet red, turned my eyes to the ground and quickly exited the bus. He followed me. I did not wait for the transfer bus and ran the seven bus stops back to my dorm.

This is the fourth time something like this has happened to me this year, and many of my friends have had similar and worse experiences.

While the harassment was stressful, the scariest thing for me was the reaction of not only the passengers, but of my friends when I told them what happened. When I was harassed by a group of drunk guys in a car who followed me home last year, the people I told were shocked. They told me to call the campus PD and some even offered to walk me home after my night classes. Over the course of the election year, however, I have witnessed the people I know become more and more passive in regards to incidents like these. More people have been either unfazed or just disbelieving. By the time this last incident happened, one guy even asked me, “Why couldn’t you just take the compliment?” like I should enjoy being reduced from human being to ‘piece of ass’ in just ten seconds by a stranger.

Increased passivity has expressed itself in more than just this way. I’ve also witnessed an increase in rape jokes told in person and on the internet, a stronger denial of rape culture and more and more people saying that “most women lie” about their assaults. If you doubt any of this, all you need to do is go on social media. The fact is that the more accepted Donald Trump and his offenses have become, the more women have to fear from leaving their house in the morning.

As a woman, if none of this scares you, it should.

I came to the conclusion a while back that I can understand the appeal Donald Trump has to the average white male voter. He's very rich. He's famous. He makes big promises, and he says what he thinks without filtering, and by doing so he addresses and makes open the fears and typically unexpressed prejudices of the 'average' American. He isn't the establishment, and that alone makes him appealing to every single person who is tired of our political system.

Related: I'm a College Woman, & Despite Everything, I Still Support Donald Trump

If a single, white, male citizen wants to vote for Donald Trump, I completely understand. To every American citizen, however, this is my appeal:

Being the leader of a country is about more than arguing policy and vetoing bills. A leader is a reflection of the values of a culture displayed for the whole world to see. In this country, we have the blessing of being able to choose this cultural mirror once every four years, so that every person in this country can have someone to depend on, look to for guidance in times of need, and even view as a role model.

Set aside your thoughts on race, terrorism, gun violence, homosexuality, abortion and all other hot topics no matter how prevalent. While all these issues are of course very important in this election, right now I ask you to think seriously about the safety of every woman under a Donald Trump presidency.

I have been told frequently that I should not be worried about a Donald Trump presidency, because he likely won't change any laws regarding women's rights. This increase in passivity due to every objectifying comment he has ever made about a woman is proof that he doesn't have to.

According to the CDC, 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lifetime, and 1 in 20 women have experienced some other form of sexual violence in the past year. The likelihood of experiencing sexual violence goes up dramatically for women in college. If you haven’t had such an experience, that’s wonderful, and I am genuinely happy for you, but chances are you know at least one victim of sexual violence. I know many. While the rate of sexual assault has gone down since the ‘90s, rape culture is still very prevalent in our society, and if you don't believe me, take a look at Donald Trump.

He has publicly objectified women before, but in the video leaked a few weeks ago he openly stated that he could sexually assault a woman and get away with it, because he's a star. It doesn’t matter how long ago it was. It doesn’t matter whether or not he knew he was on camera. I don’t know a single man, even the ones who assaulted me, who would brag about doing so. Locker room setting or not.

Is this really the cultural mirror we want to elect this November?

People like Donald Trump are the reason 600 people are raped every day in the United States, and 97% of their attackers will never spend a day in jail, according to RAINN. Take a moment and think of every obscene comment and action you have ever heard him direct towards a woman, and imagine it directed towards your mother, your wife, your daughter, or your girlfriend. Imagine your daughter's significant other calling her a “young and beautiful piece of ass.” Imagine being reduced to a sex object by a stranger on a city bus. Think of the sexual violence victims in your life and imagine their attackers saying unabashedly that they simply couldn't help themselves. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for everything he stands for, and every influence he has and will have on the attitude of the American people.

Whether you choose to see it or not, the Trump effect is real, and it makes life in this country more dangerous for the entire female population. I have three nieces, and I want them to grow up in a world where they are viewed as equal and intelligent human beings who are just as worthy of respect as any male. I am asking all of my American sisters, as a human being and a woman, please don't make this country a place where sexual violence is viewed as normal, and please don't vote for Donald Trump this election. Our humanity depends on it.

Ariana Grande in a Haunted House is the Funniest Thing You Will See All Day

Ariana Grande may love all things haunted and spooky, but that doesn’t stop her from absolutely freaking out at a Haunted House.

According to Cosmopolitan, Ellen DeGeneres sent Grande and Ellen producer Andy Lassner to the American Horror Story maze at Universal Studios and luckily, they captured it all on video.

You might notice some of the rooms in the haunted house and that’s because they are all from various seasons of the actual show. There’s a crazy doctor from Asylum, a bed monster from Hotel, and even Twisty the Clown from Freak Show. Not going to lie, it looks insanely terrifying.

Although at the end Grande says “It wasn’t that bad”, we beg to differ based on her screams.

16 Things That Only Matter When You're in College

Besides the obvious classes, exams and group projects that we all associate with college, there are quite a few things that we don't realize are a part of the environment until after we're removed from it. Some you'll be happy to not have to worry about once you graduate, and others you'll miss like crazy. Whichever it may be, here are 16 things that only matter when you're in college.

1. Extra credit

In the real world, it's called sucking up to your boss—and it definitely doesn't guarantee any points.

2. Interior decorating

No one is coming to see how cute your dorm room is, and mom and dad sure as hell aren't paying for another Bed Bath & Beyond shopping spree.

3. Keeping up with the trends

When you've got groceries to buy, appointments to schedule and a ridiculous amount of emails to read through, what Kylie Jenner wore out last night suddenly becomes a lot less important.

4. What you look like when you go to work

Unless bae is one of your coworkers, an extra hour of sleep is more important than looking hot.

5. Your major

You've heard it before and you're hearing it again—your employers care about your skills, not what it says on your diploma.

6. Clubs/organizations

Sorry, kids. Being the president of your sorority or the captain of club soccer is not going to help you when your boss gives you a three-hour assignment and only one hour to do it.

7. Ex-hookups

The silver lining. Unless they happen to end up in the same city or town as you do following graduation, the chances of you seeing that boy you stole a sweatshirt from freshman year just got a whole lot slimmer.

8. Textbooks

You're probably going to learn in your first month of living in the real world more than you ever did reading college textbooks.

9. Frat parties

Bars and other grown-up spots don't tend to like you dancing on their tables or spilling beer everywhere nearly as much. Can you believe it?

10. Thirsty Thursday

If you're able to function at work on a Friday when you got half the sleep and drank twice the amount of alcohol you should have the night before, more power to you. If you're like the rest of us, the only thing you're thirsty for is Netflix and a glass of wine.

11. How much you spent last night

Those six dollar shots and $30 Ubers hurt a lot less when you know payday is around the corner.

12. Cheap liquor

It becomes totally worth the splurge when you know a $30 bottle is almost 30 times less likely to give you a hangover than that cheap booze you used to buy.

13. Real dates

They're an actual thing in the real world. In fact, most men will actually start the relationship that way. Crazy, right?

14. Walks of shame

The chances of you being within walking distance of your place the next morning are basically zero, but you'll avoid any embarrassment (except for the Uber driver who picks your butt up).

15. Creating the perfect schedule

Very few jobs will ever let you decide when you want to work—enjoy the freedom now, collegiettes.

16. Summer Break

Gone are the last days of school, endless summer nights and weeks spent home with friends. Welcome to the real world, honey.

The 5 Best Ways to Reconnect With Your Ex

$
0
0

Ladies, it’s time for some real talk. Whether you’ve just gone through a painful AF breakup or your ex hasn’t talked to you since high school, there’s a strong-willed part of you that refuses to let go. You keep up with their life through social media stalking and mutual friends, and frankly, if given the opportunity to be friends with them (or even date them again), you would do it in a heartbeat.

The struggle is that breakups are usually necessary and happen for good reason, but letting go of that person feels like someone close to you has died. Worse? Breakups build up resentment, and it’s likely that this ex you want to reconnect with doesn’t even speak to you anymore. They went from bae to radio silence, and you just can’t deal.

Communication is the best way to rekindle contact with your ex, but it could also totally sabotage you. If your ex wants nothing to do with you, then trying to talk to them again may come off as irritating or even creepy. Our job is to help you start that relationship up again without letting you come off like a crazy person. Here are some totally chill tips for the women who want to reconnect with their ex again.

1. Apologize

It’s never too late to say sorry, and if you totally screwed up your relationship, then your ex will probably feel gratitude and closure hearing a whole-hearted apology. Keep it short, sweet and totally honest.

Olivia Shaw, a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, shares a personal apology story. “One time I wanted to check in on my ex and see if he wanted to get breakfast or catch up, but I knew he’d never agree to that because I’d like traumatized him from being a difficult girlfriend,” she says. “Even though it killed my ego I sent him a long letter apologizing for the way I had been and told him that I wanted to make it up to him by being better a girlfriend. I know he was skeptical at first and didn’t trust me, but apologizing softened the situation.”

Apologizing is a meaningful segue into more conversation. It lets your ex know you’re still emotionally concerned for them and that they can trust you to be better than before.  You want them to know that you’ve evolved to become a better person since your breakup however long ago. Remember to be gentle, but from here you can keep up phone contact or even spend time together in person.

Related:A Letter to the Boy I Tried to Change

2. Send a friendly text

Sending a friendly text is the easiest, most non-threatening way to get your ex talking to you again. Btw, the key word here is “friend.” If you approach the situation as a friends, they’ll let their guard down instead of thinking you’re trying to seduce them back into a relationship—even if dating them is your end goal. All that messy talk about how life was when you dated should stay in the past 100 percent, and starting from scratch as friends is going to make both of you way happier. Make sure to emphasize that you understand why your relationships ended and how you respect the decision to breakup, but that you don’t want to cut off all contact completely because they’re still significant to you.

Try saying something like, “Hey! I ran into our friend the other day and she said you’ve recently accomplished something cool. I’m happy you’re doing well, and maybe we can talk sometime and catch up?”

If your ex doesn’t answer, avoid text spamming them at all costs. Women hold grudges and men are stubborn, so sometimes results take time. Desperation is such a turn-off, and just because your ex isn’t ready to answer right now doesn’t mean you’ll never talk to them. It’s all about mastering the art of chill.

3. Meet for coffee

Once you’ve sent that ~casual~ text and feel okay interacting like functioning humans, then ask your ex for some time in person. Coffee always works! But maintaining a level head during your conversation is extremely important to keep them coming back.

When you hang out with your friends you’re probably not looking at them in tears, desperately trying to convince them how much you love them—you’re talking about what show you’re bingeing on Netflix and freaking out about the cute dog you saw the other day. If you want to reconnect with your ex, then it’s time to cut the drama and not speak to them like you’re in a soap opera.

“Emotional distance is a beautiful thing,” says Taly Newton, a senior at Biola University. “In my experience guys never want you as a friend or girlfriend if you’re hysterical or can’t have a cool conversation without bringing up past mistakes you had or forcing a relationship again, and I’ve made that mistake obviously.”

Moral of the story: If your ex actually agrees to meet you in person, don’t mess it up by going in with an ulterior motive. Treat it like any other coffee or dinner date and they’ll be sure to hang out with you again.

4. Get help from your mutual friends

Depending on how long ago you and your ex dated, the two of you might still be running in the same social circle. Mutual friends are going to be a huge advantage when it comes to repairing friendship or romance, so find time to talk to your bestie about setting up a group hangout and nonchalantly inviting your ex.

Olivia has more successful advice to share about meeting up with exes. “Hanging out with your ex especially if your friends are there creates a non-threatening environment, because then the guy knows he’s not being trapped in an uncomfortable situation and can also make simple conversation with you without a lot of pressure or tension,” she says. “Honestly, that’s my favorite way of getting my exes to talk to me again is a night out with friends.”

Your friends can also spread positive word of mouth about how happy you are and how you’ve totally move on from the breakup. Even better, they may be able to reassure your ex that it’s totally fine to spend time alone with you and work on rekindling friendship.

Related: 5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Gossip About Your Ex

5. Find a jumping off point

If you’ve exhausted all your options, then you’re probably sitting there thinking “How am I supposed to get my ex to talk to me again when I acted like a crazy person and definitely scared him away?”

Out-of-the-blue contact is weird no matter what, so don’t make up a strange reason to contact them unless you really have one. However, if you have a reasonable excuse to text them asking about a restaurant name you forgot or talking about something cool that happened to a mutual friend, then go for it! It’s a smart way to feel out how responsive your ex is going to be and whether you should keep trying to talk to them or not.

No matter your situation, reconnecting with your ex is weird, and it’s way too easy to sabotage yourself and send them running for the hills. Think about how you would feel if the position were reversed and what would make you comfortable. Note to self: If you think your ex knocking on your door in the middle of the night is crazy, then you probably shouldn’t do that to them.

If trying to reconnect with your ex doesn’t work, then boy, bye. It may take time to get over the rejection, but know that however nasty your breakup was, you’re absolutely capable of loving friendships and romantic relationships.

Leaked Audio Shows Republican Senator Joking About Hillary Clinton Being Shot

As if the presidential election couldn’t get any worse, Senator Richard Burr has been caught joking about Hillary Clinton being shot.

According to Vox, the secretly record audio, now on YouTube in full, shows Burr joking that when he saw a picture of Hillary Clinton recently on the cover of the “National Rifle Association’s magazine American Rifleman”, he was “shocked” that the cover didn’t have a “bullseye on it.”

CNN’s Manu Raju recovered the audio tape and reports that the North Carolina Republican, recalled when he walked into a gun shop and "nothing made me feel better" than seeing a publication about guns "with a picture of Hillary Clinton on the front of it."

Here are his comments in full:

“Nothin’ made me feel any better than — I walked into a gun shop I think yesterday in Oxford. I think there was a copy of Rifleman on the counter. It’s got a picture of Hillary Clinton on the front of it. I was a little bit shocked at that — it didn’t have a bullseye on it. [laughter] But at the bottom right, it had everybody in federal office in this particular state that they should vote for. So let me assure you, there’s an army of support out there right now for our candidates.”

Although extremely distasteful, these are not the first comments to be made about Clinton being the victim of gun violence. Back in August Donald Trump made a comment at a rally saying that “Second Amendment people” could be the ones to stop Clinton from appointing new judges.

Unlike Trump, Burr has responded to the backlash and has issued an apology to CNN stating, "The comment I made was inappropriate, and I apologize for it.”

While we appreciate the apology, Senator, your words are not okay, especially this close to election day.

Would it really be a national holiday without some sort of T-Swift celebration? No, the answer is no.

Luckily, Halloween is no exception. Taylor Swift and her squad came together to celebrate the evening in probably some of the best costumes ever. 20 Reasons Why It's Never Too Early to Obsess Over Christmas

You know what time of year it is. Stores have packed away their Halloween-themed goodies and are starting to bring in all the Christmas décor. You may think it’s a little too early to be celebrating Christmas—after all, it’s only November—but it’s never really too early to start obsessing over Christmas. Here are some reasons why you absolutely must begin celebrating all the holiday festivities as soon as possible.

1. Because you need something to fill the void that Halloween left.

2. Because even Starbucks has started celebrating Christmas.

And you know it’s official when Starbucks gets in on something.

3. Because you need something to cheer you up during finals.

School sucks, but Christmas has the power to make it suck less.

4. Because you need an excuse to take advantage of all those great pre-Christmas sales.

You get a present, and you get a present. Everyone gets a present!

5. Because you have more time to catch your crush under the mistletoe.

And maybe score a New Year's Eve date in the process.

6. Because it gives you more time to eat candy canes (and other holiday treats).

Although we don’t blame you if you eat candy canes year round.

7. Because that long list of Christmas movies isn’t going to watch itself.

And of course you’ll have to re-watch them all at least once.

8. Because holiday TV specials start playing in November.

And Netflix doesn’t have all of them.

9. Because you’ll have first dibs on all the amazing decorations in stores before they sell out.

Better grab a cart to haul all that stuff to your car. Okay, make it two carts.

10. Because singing Christmas carols is the best way to annoy people.

Oops, we mean spread Christmas cheer.

11. Because you need to try and make the snow seem not so bad.

Or to compensate for a lack of snow (if you’re blessed not to suffer from a real winter wonderland).

12. Because it’s always smart to start working on your wish list early.

How else is Santa going to know what you want/

13. Because all your festive holiday décor deserves to be on display for as long as possible.

It’s time to bring out your Nutcracker collection.

14. Because no one likes to leave Christmas present shopping until last minute.

Even though we all do.

15. Because you need time to perfect your singing voice for carolling.

This is the year that you’re going to get that solo.

16. Because it gives you more time to enjoy ugly sweater season.

Seriously, Christmas sweaters should be acceptable all year round.

17. Because there’s only a limited amount of time to buy Bath & Body Works Christmas scented candles.

If you’re smart, you’ll stock up.

18. Because the anticipation leading up to Christmas is almost as amazing as the actual day.

Almost is the key word.

19. Because everything is better when it’s Christmas-themed.

There’s something about red, white and green that is so comforting.

20. Because it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Imagine how wonderful the world would be if everyday was Christmas!

So, what are you waiting for, collegiettes? Unpack all your dusty Christmas decorations and pick up some must-have candy canes from the grocery store, so you can begin celebrating the holiday season as soon as possible. Christmas only comes around once a year, so be sure to make the best of it.

8 Ways You're Washing Your Clothes Wrong

Even the messiest collegiette knows that sorting your lights from your darks is the most basic rule of Laundry 101. However, this rule alone isn’t enough to keep your clothes in the best condition possible! Want the dirt on all the laundry mistakes you’re probably making? Check them out below.

1. Putting clothes in the dryer that should be air-dried

As you probably know from personal experience, there are certain types of clothing (and fabrics) that you just cannot put in the dryer without risking ruin. Why is this, you may wonder? Some fabrics have delicate fibers that can’t handle the high temperatures and tumbling motions of dryers.

Avoid tumble-drying your favorite sweaters, bras, silk clothes, wool clothes, and anything with embellishments. Trust us! You will avoid potentially shrinking, pulling, tearing, or completely destroying your staple pieces. For delicate items, we recommend hand washing with warm water. It is by far the best way to keep these items in prime condition!

2. Hanging knits to dry

For the same reason you shouldn’t put a sweater in a dryer, you shouldn’t hang it to dry, either! If you do, you will most likely end up with a larger sweater than the one you hung up in the first place ––or one filled with some funky hanger marks.

So, how do you dry a sweater? Simply lay them to dry or opt for a drying rack. Be wary though, heavier fabrics may sag.

3. Throwing your swimsuits in the washer

It’s no secret that swimsuits are expensive AF. Don’t ruin them (and waste your money) by washing and drying them with your other clothing!

We have a better alternative: Rinse your suit in cold water as soon as possible, and let it soak for thirty minutes if possible. Although this sounds tactic doesn’t sound the cleanest, it actually is! Cold water removes chlorine, perspiration, sand and other body oils ––all of which mess with the elasticity and color of your suit.

If you really want to use some form of soap, hand wash with a tablespoon or less of liquid detergent.

4. Tumble-drying dark clothes

Attention, collegiettes: you should always hang-dry dark clothes! Tumble-drying causes fading. Don’t hang them outside, either, because the sunlight can also cause fading.

You should also take caution when you are machine-washing dark clothes. Try to avoid washing these items too often. Instead, target small stains and blot them out with a damp rag and dishwasher detergent (seriously)! After you get rid of the stain, rinse the damp area with water.

5. Using fabric softener with your towels

There is nothing better than wrapping your body in a nice, soft towel after a shower. However, you should avoid drying your towels with fabric softener or dryer sheets! Believe it or not, they actually reduce the amount of absorbency a towel has.

6. Forgetting to clean your washer

We get it ––when you’re using a machine to clean your clothes, it’s easy to forget that the machine needs a cleaning, too! Laundry detergents can cause mold and mildew build-ups in places that you can’t see, so you should be washing your washer every few months.

Set your washer to the highest level and hottest setting, and run the cycle with four cups of white cleaning vinegar in the machine. Afterwards, run another cycle with one cup of baking soda. Ta-da, your washer is clean!

Bonus tip: To prevent mold and mildew build-up in the future, leave your washer lid open when it’s not running.

7. Putting your bra in the dryer

Never, under any circumstances, tumble-dry your bra! The heat will damage its shape, fabric and elasticity. After washing your bras (preferably in a mesh bag), seperate them from the rest of the load, reshape and lay flat to dry.

Also keep in mind that you shouldn't be washing your bras all the time. Use your own judgment, but we recommend washing after two to four wears.

8. Machine-washing your jeans

This one may sound confusing ––or downright disgusting–– but when it comes to your denim, step away from the washer! That is, if you want to keep your favorite pair of pants in prime condition. Each wash cycle breaks down the dye in the denim and causes fading.

So, what should you do instead? Turn your jeans inside out and freeze them overnight (yes, in your freezer) once a month to kill any odor caused by bacteria. If you still find that your denim has a strange smell, spritz it with white vinegar or vodka and hang it to air dry.

Don’t fret, ladies. If you find that you are committing multiple laundry sins, you can rest assured that they are easy to fix. Happy cleaning!

5 Reasons Why It's Acceptable To Job Hop In Your 20s

The term “job hopping” typically has negative associations. The concept of bouncing from job to job is sometimes linked to instability, lack of direction and an inability to hold a job for a decent period of time. It also plays into negative stereotypes about millennials, with people claiming that young workers don’t have company loyalty and are too indecisive when it comes to choosing a career path.

Don’t let these sentiments get in the way of your decision-making. There are some truly beneficial reasons to job-hop, and your 20s are as perfect a time as ever to take the plunge.

1. You’re not beholden to anyone else financially

For many of you, your first couple of years post-grad doesn’t consist of marriage and having kids. While these might be life goals of yours later on, it’s absolutely acceptable to focus on your career in the early part of this decade.

Since you don’t have a family or spouse to help support, your salary doesn’t need to be your highest priority right now, with the exception of obvious burdens like student loans. Take this time to try out different jobs and find what you’re passionate about. When that time comes that you have a family, you might have more pressure to stay in your same job for a couple years to reap the financial benefits.

While you're still just supporting yourself, you also want to make sure that your current salary works for you and your needs. If you've been at the same job for a year and are severely underpaid or can't pay student loans, but your employer won't adjust your salary, that is a justifiable reason to move on to another job.

2. You want to gain new skills to boost your resume

Depending on the industry, you might find that switching from one company to another allows you to gain different experiences than you might have had staying in the same job for a couple years.

Sydnee Lyons, a second year graduate student at Florida Atlantic University, reflects on how job-hopping in between undergrad and grad school helped her to grow. “I collected a number of very different skills and experienced that I still rely on now in my grad program,” she says. “Job hopping helped me understand so much more of the real world than I would have had at one single job.”

By starting fresh at a different company, your tasks might change based on your new team’s needs and goals, which will only help you grow and gain a better perspective of how you fit into the working world as a post-grad.

In some cases it's not a choice to want to get more experience elsewhere, but rather a necessity in order to move up. Alexandra Blessing, a PR professional, agrees. "The job market is complicated," she says. "Frankly, college grads apparently aren't even experienced enough for entry-level positions because most employers consider 'entry level' employees to have 1-3 years of professional experience after college graduation."

3. You’re having a career crisis

By the same token, job-hopping can allow you to aim closer towards your goals, while figuring out what it is that you want to pursue.

No one has everything figured out in their 20s when it comes to their career. There is no harm in bouncing around a bit if it means moving one step closer towards what makes you happy. Like with college internships, you’ll find what makes you tick and what you despise with each role—these lessons will only help you succeed later on.

Shira Kipnees, a teacher who graduated in 2015, believes that an industry change early on is normal because it's difficult to understand the working world unless you're fully immersed in it. "When you graduate college, you really have no idea what the real world is like. Once you've spent some time seeing what makes you happy and what doesn't, what you're good at and what you're not, you can decide a career."

As long as each job-related decision you make is purposeful and strategic, it’s normal to take some time in your 20s to “find yourself” and take risks. If your first job is unrelated to your newly identified passion, stick it out for a year if possible to make the role appear more legitimate and purposeful on your resume.

4. Your health is at risk as a result of unhappiness in current role

You need to listen to yourself and fulfill your needs. Your health precedes any other aspect of your life, after all!

If you find that your current job is causing anxiety, feelings of depression or affecting your sleep, perhaps it’s time to rethink your current situation. It’s one thing to dislike your job, but it’s another to be miserable to the point where you’re dragging yourself out of bed each morning.

Even if you haven’t been at your company for a full year, it’s important to assess the situation and make decisions that will positively impact your overall well being—even if that means jumping ship. Many people are unhappy at work, which isn't an exuse in itself to jump, but if the negatives overtake the positives to a large degree, then either stick it out while applying for other jobs or quit if it is truly unbearable to stay.

5. You’re looking for a different work environment

Let’s say that your first job is working for Fortune 500 company where you’re a small fish in a big pond. You may find yourself having an itch to work with a smaller team and take on more responsibility. Why not try a start-up?

You’ll never know whether you like a certain work culture or environment unless you dive right in and make the jump. Your surroundings can, in many cases, make as much of an impact on your career satisfaction as the type of work you’re a part of.

The people you’re surrounded by and a company’s culture will vary, so by job hopping you will expose yourself to different opportunities that allow you the time to find a place where your values and there’s are closely aligned.

Contrary to how it is sometimes perceived in our society, job-hopping is not always a bad thing. Rather, appreciate the time you have in your 20s to explore, get your feet wet with different tasks and absorb everything you can while you’re still young. You only live once, so why stay in the same role forever when you can expand your horizons?

Looks like Kim Kardashian is done with her social media cleanse! After being held at gunpoint in Paris, Kim has been extra cautious about posting on social media. In fact, the Internet hadn't heard of Kim's whereabouts for weeks (which is a huge deal if you closely follow the Kardashian family). Recently, Kim was seen attending a few of Kanye West's concerts, and she was spotted filming for KUWTK—so we knew that Kim was slowly returning to the spotlight. Now, Kim is finally returning to social media.

Last night, Kim shared a post on Facebook for a brand that she sponsors, LuMee. In the photo, Kim is seen enjoying some much-needed relaxation, while showing off her LuMee light-up phone case.

Afterwards, she wrote another post, sharing Halloween costume ideas from her assistant.

And in the spirit of Halloween, Kim shared a few precious throwback videos with Kourtney.

Three posts in one day? Kim's social media hiatus is officially dunzo!

How Much Do Your Friends’ Opinions of Your SO Really Matter?

Entering a relationship is a big step to take that not only impacts you, but also your friends. Though this may sound surprising, as your relationship is just yours, relationships impact what you and your friends talk about and the time you choose to spend together. Friday nights can easily transform from going out with the girls to staying in with your SO. Your friends know you better than anyone and are likely to have an opinion on your SO and your relationship. It’s important to hear out your BFF’s opinions on your SO and make her feel heard, but how much do these opinions truly matter, and when should they have a real impact on your relationship? Her Campus went on a mission to figure this out.

Consider the relationship between you and your friend

Kathleen Bogle, author of Hooking Up: Sex, Dating and Relationships on Campus, recommends evaluating the friendship you have with the friend who has an opinion on your SO. “A true friend hates to see you not treated well and hates to see someone that is ‘just not that into’ you while you put your SO on a pedestal,” Bogle, also a professor of sociology and criminal justice at La Salle University, says. “But, some friends are part ‘frenemy’ and do not have your best interest at heart.” So, rather than the opinion itself, she recommends evaluating the friendship you and your friend share. If you believe she has your back and truly wants what is best for you, Bogle recommends to “give a lot of thought to what she says!”

Related: What to Do When Your Friend Is in an Abusive Relationship

Understand the context of their opinion

If you believe your friends’ opinions are coming from a place of jealousy or hurt, address those feelings rather than the opinions themselves. If you think your friend may be hurt that you haven’t been spending as much time with her and jealous of the time you’re spending with your SO, make a larger effort to involve her in plans and catch up. She may not really dislike your SO, she may just feel like they’ve stolen you from her.

Bogle says it is “a huge mistake to drop your friends and spend all of your time with your SO” and recommends making time to hang out with your friends without your SO there, which will reduce jealousy. Bogle emphasizes that “when you are young, SOs come and go, but close friends may be forever.” If a friend is truly important to you, make sure to tell her how much you appreciate her and give her a space to voice how she feels if she is hurt. “Be a good friend so that your friends are there when you need them, which will be often,” Bogle recommends. There is no SO worth losing a phenomenal friendship over—or even a new friendship that could blossom into a lifelong bond.

Evaluate the opinion itself

There is a big difference between an opinion that cannot be ignored and an opinion that doesn’t affect you in the way it affects your friend. Annalise Beyer-Johnson, a sophomore at the Maryland Institute College of Art, says if her friends had an opinion on something “like that they don’t like the way he dresses, his hair or something else superficial,” she would ignore their opinions. In that case, they may not know your SO well enough to have an opinion at all! However, if their opinion was on something larger, such as if they believed her SO was unhealthy for her, Annalise says, “that would make me think things over for sure.”

Bogle says to never take a friends’ warning of a potentially unhealthy relationship lightly. While there are some things in relationships that can be worked on, such as communication, Bogle tells us that control problems and extreme jealousy are not something you want to work on. She warns us that “extreme jealousy is the number one warning sign that a relationship could turn physically abusive.” If you are in a relationship where your partner is extremely controlling or jealous, Bogle recommends breaking up “in a public space to reduce the chance of an enraged reaction” as oftentimes “abuse increases during break-ups because the partner is insecure and fears losing the relationship.” Never take a friends’ warnings on your SO lightly; true friends want to keep you safe, healthy and happy, and they may be seeing something you can’t see yourself.

If your friend does say something superficial about your SO, try saying something simple that shows you disagree and then continue to move the conversation further. For instance, if your friend says something about disliking your SO’s wardrobe, reply with “Oh really? I love it! I forgot to ask—how is X class going?” Let her know that you don’t agree, and that should signal to her that what she said isn’t an opinion you appreciate. By quickly changing subjects, it also shows your disinterest in discussing the topic further and keeps the situation from escalating. "You don’t have to get mad or fight with them about it; just let them know those little superficial qualities they don’t like work just fine for you," Bogle says.

True friends have your best interest at heart, and if they are expressing genuine concern about an aspect of your relationship, such as your SO’s controlling tendencies, that may be a red flag. However, other opinions can afford to be disregarded. Your SO’s haircut may not be your friends’ cup of tea, but it can definitely be yours!

Reflect on your own relationship

After hearing your friends’ opinions and taking them into consideration if you feel necessary, it may be time to reflect on your own relationship. Sometimes our feelings can cloud our judgment because we are so caught up in the excitement of it all. If after hearing your friends’ opinions you begin to have doubts about your relationship it may be time to have a serious talk with your SO. But, if after hearing what your friends think about your SO only confirms they’re the person you’re meant to be with, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the two biggest loves in your life, your BFF and SO, love one another just as much as you love them.

At the end of the day, your friends were there before you and your SO got together, and they will be there for you the day you and your SO end. True friends have your best interest at heart, and their opinions shouldn’t be disregarded, especially if they are on a serious matter. Listen to them with an open heart and understand that they are coming into the conversation with your best interest in mind. And of course, if their opinion is on something superficial, channel Taylor Swift and "shake it off."

Zayn Opens Up About His Battle With An Eating Disorder

In his newly released self-titled memoir, Zayn Malik writes about his past and opens up about his struggles during his time in One Direction.

One of the topics he discusses is his past battle with an eating disorder back in 2014 and 2015. While he was traveling and making music with the band, he felt insurmountable pressure from executives to have his life perfectly in order.

He writes, "I didn't feel like I had control over anything else in my life, but food was something I could control, so I did… I had lost so much weight I had become ill. The workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of everything going on within the band had badly affected my eating habits."

Malik revealed would go would go two or three days without food sometimes.

Zayn has always been sincere, honest and open with his fans, so hearing this story from him is no surprise. Oftentimes, eating disorders are attributed exclusively to women. But that could not be more dangerous; eating disorders don't discriminate. We're so proud of Zayn for opening up about his past and being part of the population that breaks the stigma about eating disorders affecting everyone.

Some People Thought Lena Dunham's Halloween Costume Was Offensive

Every Halloween, there is always at least one celebrity who stirs up controversy with their costume choices. Of course, some stars truly slay with their costumes, but we can't discuss the great ones without calling out those that are just offensive (we're looking at you, Hilary Duff). This year, Lena Dunham drew costume inspiration from the political sphere, and the reactions were mixed, to say the least. In fact, many thought Lena's costume was distasteful.

A photo posted by Lena on Instagram shows the actress dressed in a black body suit, cat ears, large cat paws, and a mask. Dressing as a cat doesn't sound controversial at all, right? Well, maybe you need to see the full picture...

Happy Halloween! With love from a Grabbed Pussy by the very tolerant @jenna_wb #imanasshole

While there's nothing wrong with Lena showing her outrage for what Trump said in that infamous Access Hollywood tape, some commenters felt that her costume took it too far. To such people, it looked liked Lena was making light of a very serious societal issue: "How is this funny?" asked user @andreaggcb. "Trump's comments should NOT be taken this lightly. This is absurd." Others felt that Lena's explicit costume was "disgusting." Many others, however, supported Lena, and praised her for publicly calling out Trump's sexism. "Lena Dunham you are beautiful and bold," said user @hmsmackers. "Thank you for your bravery in posting this in spite of the inevitable backlash." Whether you love it or hate it, Lena's costume is extremely controversial — and we're curious to see if Lena will issue an apology or defend her actions.
