Dr. Luke Told Kesha to Make 'TiK ToK' Sound 'More Stupid'

When “TiK ToK” first came out, Kesha changed our perception of “fun” by showing us what it meant to be the ultimate party girl. Covered in glitter, surrounded by guys—basically everything that our teeny 2009 selves worshipped. Little did we know that while we were bouncing around to “going to get crunk,” Kesha was dealing with Dr. Luke while he took advantage of her music career and her body.

In a recent interview for the New York Times Magazine, Kesha opened up about just how strong Dr. Luke’s influence was since the outset of her career with “TiK ToK.” “I remember specifically him saying: ‘Make it more dumb. Make it more stupid. Make it more simple, just dumb,’” she said, explaining how Dr. Luke wanted to capitalize on the fun part of her personality to really sell the song. “I was like, I am fun, but I’m a lot of other things.”

Literally if any man ever tried to pressure us into making our creative work “stupid” or “dumb” for the sake of selling it, we’d be like BOI BYE! Kesha thought it was a joke, too. She suggested lyrics like, “Boys try to touch my junk. Going to get crunk. Everybody getting drunk,” which Dr. Luke thought were just “perfect.”

Since then, Kesha has written 22 new songs that are truly original to her and what she wants her music to be. Once she’s free from Dr. Luke, we’ll get to see a whole new side of Kesha’s music, and honestly we just can’t wait.

Gigi Hadid Is So Over Online Trolls & Tabloid Rumors

When you're beautiful and famous AF, people are going to make up rumors about you and the people close to you for as long as you're in the spotlight—and even after. Gigi Hadid obviously isn't a stranger to fake headlines and obnoxious rumors, but she's definitely reached her limit, and literally same.

We aren't quite sure what tabloid or story sparked her outrage, but she took to Twitter to call out all the hate and negativity that circulates online. "Exactly what qualifications does one need to be a 'source?' The amount of BS online, and how much negativity it creates, is truly sad," she said, and then continued in a follow up tweet, "Not just for the people being spoken about, but how you treat each other online sometime makes me sad."

We couldn't agree more, and we love that Gigi is always so ready to call people out on their shit, whether it's trolls, body-shaming or anything else. She concluded her Twitter rant with "Rise above it. Spread love." YAS girl. Y'all heard her—stop reading some fake story, then get out there and love each other.

Willow & Jaden Smith Join the Fight Against the Dakota Access Pipeline

With the coming election getting nearer, many celebrities have been more adamant about environmental issues. Now Jaden and Willow Smith are joining the battle. The famous siblings attended a march over the weekend that protested the continued construction of pipelines, officially declaring themselves anti-DAPL.

So what is DAPL? The acronym stands for Dakota Access Pipeline, and it’s in reference to an approximately 1,172 mile-long pipe that will run from North Dakota to Illinois to transport crude oil. One of the chief concerns about this project stems from the Native Americans from Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. They have been protesting the DAPL because the pipes will run through their main water source, the Missouri River. In addition, further concerns about the use of oil and its relationship to the environment are also a hot topic.

Some of the most outspoken celebs on environmental issues are Leonardo DiCaprio, Gisele Bundchen and Cate Blanchett. Now with younger celebrities like the Smiths and Shailene Woodley, who was recently arrested for her protests against the pipeline, joining together against these issues, it’s obvious that the younger generation has concerns and wants to be heard.

The protest that the Smiths participated in was peaceful and one of the many that have occurred in response to this project. In a time where every vote and stance matters, their position and status make them role models to other young adults. Hopefully others follow suit and stand up for the issues they want to make a change in.

Women Drink As Much Alcohol As Guys Now—But That's Probably Not a Good Thing

A new study found that women are now drinking nearly as much as men. The report, published in BMJ Open, analyzed 68 international studies written between 1980 and 2014. The results showed that while men still drink more than women, we're definitely catching up. While gender equality is usually great, drinking is, unfortunately, a drug—which means if women are drinking more, they're also having more health problems because of it.

"There had been several reports of sex convergence regarding alcohol consumption, but nobody had confirmed that, which is why we decided to look over global studies published throughout the years to see if we could prove that there had been a shift," researcher Katherine M. Keyes told CNN.

In the past, men have been more likely than women to drink. Men born between 1891 and 1910 were twice as likely as women to drink alcohol, but this gap has been pretty close to closed in the last few years.

“Alcohol use and alcohol use disorders have historically been viewed as a male phenomenon,” the researches in the study concluded. “The present study calls this assumption into question and suggests that young women in particular should be the target of concerted efforts to reduce the impact of substance use and related harms.”

According to the Center for Disease Control, excessive alcohol use caused nearly 88,000 deaths each year in the United States from 2006 to 2010. Health risks include high blood pressure, heart disease, digestive problems, cancer and depression. So while it's definitely fun to party, it's also important to think about how all these drinks are affecting your health—both physical and mental.

Researchers predict this change in women’s alcohol consumption habits may be due to new marketing campaigns directed toward women or a shift in gender norms, The Guardian reports. And who hasn't seen all the alcohol products that get marketed specifically to women, like Skinnygirl margaritas and White Girl Rosé?

Hopefully the results of this study will increase the focus on women’s health, and will push us to find effective ways to get people to stop drinking so much!

Katy Perry Just Proved That Her Feud With Taylor Swift Is Far From Over

Just when we thought there was a possibility that Taylor Swift and Katy Perry's longtime feud might be over, Perry is making sure that fans know nothing has changed. While celebrating her birthday at a Kanye West concert, Perry turned to her Instagram story to capture some of her honest feelings about Swift, according to Refinery29.

Onstage at the concert, Kanye performed "Famous," which notoriously takes a hit at Swift with the lyric "I think me and Taylor might still have sex." Perry was filming herself when he reached the infamous line and pulled a shady face in her Instagram video, suggesting that there's still some fierce tension between her and Swift.

This latest dig comes just two days after Swift and Perry both attended Drake's 30th birthday party, as you do as a top pop artist. They weren't photographed together at the party, a clear sign that they're keeping their distance from each other. But we thought it might be a hint that getting along could be in their future.

Will our favorite singing ladies ever call a truce and take a crack at being friends again? We'll have to wait and see.

'Pretty Little Liars' Creator Marlene King Says Goodbye As Filming Officially Wraps

The end is near: On October 26, Pretty Little Liars officially wrapped production, meaning that our days of casually Instagram-stalking the picture-perfect cast on set are over. While the series doesn't begin airing its final episodes on Freeform until April 2017 (thank goodness!), our emotions just weren't prepared for show creator I. Marlene King's goodbye letter to the PLL cast and crew.

King took to Cosmopolitan's Instagram account to post the message, calling the show "my home away from home for the last seven seasons." She promised that all five PLL ladies will be featured in the show's last shot and that "friendships have been made and sealed over the love our passionate fans have for PLL."

@imarleneking opens up about the end of #prettylittleliars (grab a tissue, PLL fans): "Today marks the series wrap on 'Pretty Little Liars,' my home away from home for the last seven seasons. When I call 'cut' on the very last scene, all five PLLs will be in the shot. Tears will be spilled, gifts will be exchanged, and final memories will be made. The most meaningful gift, however, is that we call ourselves 'PLL Family' because that is how much we mean to each other. We have created a worldwide family of fans who have come together to watch and celebrate the show. Friendships have been made and sealed over the love our passionate fans have for 'PLL.' In an age where technology often separates people, we used social media to bring them together. In season six, Spencer quoted A. A. Milne, author of 'Winnie the Pooh': 'How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good-bye so hard.' And those words have never spoken to me so loudly. Thank you to the cast, the crew, and all the fans who have kept Rosewood alive; we would be nowhere without you. And as this chapter ends, to my 'PLL' family all over the world, I won’t say good-bye, I’ll say, 'See you soon, bitches.'"– I. Marlene King, #cosmoinstagramcolumnist #pll

A photo posted by Cosmopolitan (@cosmopolitan) on

We don't know which part of this letter made us cry more—was it the throwback to Spencer quoting Winnie the Pooh or King's perfect last line? An extra tear or two may have been shed after reading it because of the group shot King posted when Keegan Allen finished his work on the series. While it's great to know that we still have a little more PLL to look forward to, we can't help but feel nostalgic and weepy about seeing messages like this. Congrats on an amazing run, PLL!

7 Kendall Jenner Outfits You Can Totally Copy

Everyone wants to replicate their favorite celeb’s style. But with designer dresses costing more than our tuition and the lack of access to our own personal stylists, it can get hard. We may not be able to wear Givenchy on the regular, but we can totally pretend. One celeb who has designer taste with a regular girl vibe is Kendall Jenner. She may be walking the runways in Paris, but her style is so everyday cool girl that even when she’s rocking designer frocks, we can still relate. Here’s how to finally snag her style.

1. The cropped sweatshirt

Take notes from Kendall and pair a sporty cropped sweatshirt with a tailored cigarette pant so you’re comfortable but chic. Since you’re not hitting the gym, but still want to be comfortable, go for pointed toe flats that add class but won’t have you needing a foot massage at the end of the night.

2. The DIY t-shirt

Leave your college brand tee for the tailgate and pay your favorite band tribute by getting crafty with one of their shirts. Sprucing up an old band teeis the perfect low-cost alternative to a trendy top and will definitely set you apart from the crowd. Kendall bares it all with a bralette and keeps the rest of the look simple with 80s-esque mom jeans and booties.

3. The denim jacket

Leave the fitted denim jackets in high school. Oversized denim is for the older girls and it’s a classic. You may be able to find this in your family’s attic for free, but in case you can’t, your local thrift store will totally have you covered. Pair your jacket with a girly number like a dress or romper and balance the look out with sneakers and accessories. This look is perfect when you want the “I didn’t feel like getting dressed today” look.

4. The high-waisted jean

Is Kendall headed to class or just filling up her Rover? Since she’s a full-time model, we’ll guess she’s just filling up the tank — so you can totally steal this look for your 8 a.m. Not only is this look cute, it’s easy too. Tuck a simple tank into your favorite high-waisted jeans and pair them with simple white sneakers. Mimic Kendall's light wash look with these classic Levi's ($33, Kohl's). You’ll be ready in under five minutes.

 5. The ribbed sweater

Save the chunky sweaters for the winter and a lighter sweater that keeps you warm without making you sweat. Kendall kept it casual with jeans, but feel free to alternate between mom jeans and a tailored pant depending on the occasion.

6. The pointed toe ankle boots

Kendall has always been a fan of pointed toe shoes. Not only are they a staple, they can make the simplest jeans-and-tee combo into a girl's night outfit in a second. Get booties similar to Kendall's without breaking the bank by snagging these Nine West booties ($60, Belk) and dress up your most casual looks.

7. The choker

Ms. Jenner loves chokers and she knows how to work them! Kendall stands out from the fashion crowd she hangs with because she's always trying different takes on trends. Kendall's been spotted in thick chokers and even a diamond one that not many others sport. Get out of your accessory comfort zone and try out a different choker like Kendall. Try this velvet one from Top Shop ($20, Top Shop) and be ahead of the choker trend.

Kendall has nailed her “model off duty” style and you can too without dipping into your grocery money! While Ms. Jenner may be sporting designer labels, she has a classic style, which means you don’t have to look far to obtain it. Who knows? The paparazzi may be snapping your pic soon!

Sarah Jessica Parker Can Now Add "Jewelry Designer" to Her Résumé

Is there really anything that Carrie Bradshaw can’t do? No, the answer is no.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the actress and shoe designer has partnered with London-based jewelry designer Kat Florence to release a line of jewels using “only D-grade, flawless stones”. Which basically means they are the best of the best. Cosmopolitan reports that at the end of the year, the collection will include 120 different designs and every single one was intimately thought out by Kat Florence and SJP.

When asking about the decision to work with SJP, in an interview with WWD, Florence said that “Our initial conversation [with SJP] was about her being the face of our brand, but we decided it would be better if we went into partnership and make the face of the brand actually part of the company.” And that she did. As well as helping create the designs, SJP also models for the collection, because, why not?

The designs went on sale today but if you want to get something good enough to be worn by the Queen of fashion herself, you might want to act quick- and be ready to shell out more than $1600. Each style will only have a production run of about 10-15 pieces and if it is anything like Parker’s line of little black dresses that was released at Bloomingdales last month, it will sell out quickly.

When it comes to Kim Kardashian these days, she is definitely laying low. Since she was robbed last month in Paris she has kept a low profile and has not posted on any social media accounts. But, according to Cosmopolitan, Kardashian has been spotted in public for the first time in weeks with what seems to be, her Keeping Up With camera crew.

This past Tuesday, Kim supported Kanye at a concert at the Forum in Los Angeles and although she didn’t share any snaps or Instagram videos as she usually does, she was there. Which means something, right? Katy Perry was also at this concert where she was seen shading Taylor Swift, big time.

Although the show has been on a short hiatus following the attack, an E! spokesperson told Just Jared that “production has resumed” after production was halted due to Kim wanted to be out of the spotlight. The break from filming was no surprise after a source told People that Kim just “wants to be with her kids and out of the public” but luckily, it seems like things may somewhat be returning to normal.

Crazy girls

A photo posted by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on

As well, this wasn’t the first time that the cameras were turned back on. On October 19th, Kourtney and Kris were seen at a party in West Hollywood to celebrate the oldest Kardashian’s new role as Manuka Doctor global brand ambassador, Cosmopolitan reports. At that same party were KUWTK regulars Jen Atkin, Brittany Gastineau, and Kim’s personal assistant Steph Sheppard, who has been maintaining Kim’s app while she takes her break.

So although Kim is stil staying quiet, it's nice to see her getting out and about and we wish for a speedy recovery.

Lady Gaga’s Carpool Karaoke is the Best Thing You Will See All Day

From jamming out to Beyoncé with the First Lady to street performing with Demi Lovato, there really isn’t anything that James Corden hasn’t done. Well, at least until his most recent guest came along... Lady Gaga.

If having the rockstar on his show wasn’t enough, for the first time ever in ‘The Late Late Show’ history, Corden let another person take the wheel in his latest segment of ‘Carpool Karaoke'. And not just anyone. It was the Grammy-winning musician who has only driven a few times.

After revealing that she only recently got her driver's license, Corden asked, “have you learned the hand signals to drive in New York?" And in a Gaga manner, she replied, "Yeah, this one," and gave the camera the finger. #Blessed.

Besides having the voice of an angel and singing her jams “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face”, she also gave her honest critique of some of her past outfits, but this time, on Corden. We think her face really says it all.

Watch the entire video below and try not to cry tears of joy and laughter.

I Stopped Obsessing Over Boys & Focused On Other Things

$

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve never had a boyfriend. I am a little ashamed to admit that it has been somewhat of a priority for me to get a boyfriend. You may label me as boy crazy, and you wouldn’t be the first to do so. Maybe it’s because I’ve never had a boyfriend, but I have always been a little obsessed with boys. I like looking at them, talking about them and just generally thinking about them.

A couple of weeks ago, however, I decided that this constant fixation needed to end. I realized that there are so many more important things to worry about and think about and just put my time and energy into than boys. Plus, when the time comes, I know I’ll happily be in a relationship. Until I meet the right person, though, I’m going to focus on more important things. Here are some things we can do instead of obsessing over boys.

Instead of stalking that cute guy from your class on Facebook, leave some love in the comments of your friends’ posts.

We’re all guilty of cyber-stalking cute boys—don’t even try to deny it. Next time you log onto Facebook or Instagram to stalk said cute boys, however, type in your bestie’s name instead. Take some time to look through her cute pics and posts and comment with some love on a couple of them. Your bestie has been there for you through thick and thin, and all this boy has done for you is given you something nice to look at for an hour three times a week.

Instead of staring at that cute guy across the dining hall, pay attention to the conversation you’re actually a part of.

We’ve all been there. You’re sitting with a group of your friends, immersed in conversation about classes or, of course, boys, when you see a cutie across the way. You suddenly stop paying attention to the conversation that’s happening right in front of you. Instead, you’re watching this guy, wondering what he’s like, waiting for the moment (that probably won’t come) when he catches your eye and comes over to talk to you.

Instead of getting caught up in this lala land, remain in the moment. Time with your friends is precious, especially with all of the work that comes with midterms, so make the most of it you can. Listen to your friend’s story about a random act of kindness she experienced, or vent to your girls about that jerk of a professor you can’t stand.

Instead of taking that route to class where you usually see that cute boy, take a new route with that friend you haven’t seen much and have a nice chat.

As you get stuck in our daily routines of the semester, you’re bound to recognize some of the people you pass on the way to class, and chances are there are some cute boys. At this point in the semester, you’ve gotten used to seeing them on your walk to class. Maybe you even look forward to it because they’re just so darn cute to look at!

But it’s that time of the semester when everyone gets busy with studying for midterms or writing papers, so chances are you haven’t been able to hang out with your friends as much recently. Reach out to the friend you haven’t seen much lately and try to figure out when both of your schedules allow you to walk to class together. Can’t find a time that matches up? Meet up for coffee or froyo instead!

Instead of going to the coffee shop to study alone and ~happen~ to look at cute boys, ask someone you don’t know very well to coffee.

Don’t deny that part of the reason you go to coffee shops to work is to check out cute hipster boys. While that’s all fine and dandy, coffee shops are also great places to have coffee with people you’d like to get to know! You’ve met so many people in your time on campus that you could stand to get to know better, whether they’d make a great friend or networking resource. Reach out to one of these people and ask to take them to coffee. They’ll be flattered you thought of them and reached out.

Related: What to Do When You See Last Semester's Crush for the First Time

Instead of sitting on campus and telling yourself you’re doing homework while actually getting distracted by cute boys, read a book at your favorite campus spot.

Studying outside can be distracting enough, but when you add cute boys to the equation? Impossible. You know you’re not going to get much done when you tell yourself that you’re going to your favorite campus spot to get some studying done.

Instead, head to your favorite spot to read that book that’s been sitting on your nightstand untouched for weeks. Free reading is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of college work. Not only is it relaxing, but it’s also a great way to keep yourself cultured.

Instead of thinking about boys, think about yourself.

In college, it’s easy to put a lot of things before yourself, whether it’s homework, clubs or spending time with friend. That can also include looking at and thinking about cute boys. Why focus on stupid boys when your badass babe of a self needs some attention, too? Don’t forget to give yourself a little TLC—you work so hard and do so much, so be sure to take a little you time. You’re the most important person in your life! So take care of yourself every once in a while.

It’s impossible to blind yourself to boys completely. Trust me, I’ve tried. But it is possible to take some of your attention off of them. There are so many more important things for you to worry about and put your time into than boys right now. Someday you’ll be in an amazing relationship if that’s what you want, but for now it’s important to give yourself and the important people in your life some love and attention.

Hillary Clinton turned 69 on Tuesday and according to Cosmopolitan, Chelsea was promptly there to serve all the feels along with her dad, Bill.

This Shiny Leg Optical Illusion Has the Internet Divided

Buckle your seatbelts because the internet has discovered another mind-boggling image that has the internet divided just like “the dress” did.

The photo, which was originally posted in September, The Huffington Post reports, has just recently gone viral. Why you ask? Well, the question is: are these legs shiny and oily or do they simply have white paint on them?

When first looking at the photo, chances are that you saw a pair of very shiny legs. However, given a second glance, the shine seems to disappear and all you see is two legs with white paint on them.

According to psychologist Tom Toppino, we see the shiny legs first because of sensory cues. When we first read the question and look at the photo, it's like being primed to see the shiny legs. But when we realize that there's a possible illusion going on due to white paint, we begin to look for clues that justify this reasoning, Cosmopolitan reports.

So although there is clearly paint supplies next to the legs, a lot of people on Twitter are not convinced.

One thing is for sure: the internet absolutely loves optical illusions. (Although, it's obviously white paint, just saying).

Newt Gingrich and Megyn Kelly Got Into a Huge Fight on Live TV

Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, and Megyn Kelly, a Fox News anchor, had a bizarre feud during an interview Tuesday night during an episode of 'The Kelly Files'. Gingrich accused Kelly of being "fascinated with sex" for reporting on allegations of Donald Trump touching women nonconsensually.

The discussion, which started out as a dialogue about whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton were ahead in the polls, escalated quickly, The New York Times reports. Gingrich accused Kelly, as well as the media in general, for always focusing on Trump and not reporting on Clinton's paid private speeches.

“You are fascinated with sex and you don’t care about public policy,” Gingrich told Kelly. Kelly replied, “Me? Really?”

Kelly went on to say she's "not fascinated by sex," but is "fascinated by the protection of women" and said that she had a responsibility to cover these accusations. Amen, sister.

She closed the interview by telling Gingrich to take his "anger issues and spend some time working on them."

Gingrich promptly took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to say that he doesn't have anger issues, but rather, media bias issues.

1. Appetizers: Hot Dog Mummies from Mommy Noire

Ingredients:

  • 1 11-ounce can of refrigerator breadsticks
  • 1 12-pack of hot dogs
  • Yellow mustard

Directions:

  1. For each mummy, separate one breadstick from the roll and use kitchen shears or a knife to slice it in half lengthwise to create two thinner strips.
  2. Wrap one strip at a time snugly around the hot dog. Depending on the size of the hot dog, you may not need all of both strips. Leave about 1/2 inch of hot dog exposed for the face area and continue wrapping the top of the hot dog.
  3. Bake the mummies on a cookie sheet at 350º F for 15 to 18 minutes or until the breadstick wrapping is golden brown.
  4. Remove the mummies from the oven and cool them for 5 minutes. Add yellow mustard eyes just before serving. Makes 12 mummies.

  • ½ teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • 5 oz.-bag baby mixed greens
  • ½ cup of toasted pumpkin seeds

Directions:

  1. Grate 1/4 tsp. zest from top of an orange. Slice 1/2-inch slice off top of oranges and carve out pulp; slice enough off bottom of oranges so they won't roll.
  2. Slice pulp of four oranges into half moons (1 1/2 cups); set aside. Juice rest of pulp (1/4 cup); set aside.
  3. Cut a jack-o'-lantern face on each orange.
  4. Whisk together reserved orange zest and juice with vinegar, maple syrup, mustard, lemon juice, ginger, pepper and salt. Whisk oil in until combined.
  5. Toss greens and reserved orange pieces with 2 to 3 tbsp. dressing. Stuff orange shells with salad; top with pumpkin seeds.

3. Entrée: Chili-Filled Coffins from TasteOfHome.com

Ingredients:

  • 2 packages (8-1/2 ounces each) corn bread/muffin mix
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon black paste food coloring
  • 1 medium sweet red pepper, sliced
  • 1 serrano pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) fat-free vegetarian chili
  • 1 tablespoon process cheese sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the corn bread mix, milk, eggs and food coloring just until moistened. Pour into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan. Bake at 400° for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Cut top fourth off loaf of bread; carefully hollow out bottom, leaving a 1-in. shell (discard removed bread or save for another use).
  3. In a large skillet, sauté peppers and onion in oil until tender. Set aside 1/4 cup pepper mixture. Stir chili into remaining pepper mixture; heat through. Spoon 2-1/2 to 3 cups chili mixture into bread coffin; arrange reserved pepper mixture over chili. Replace bread top. Transfer remaining chili to a serving bowl.
  4. Place cheese sauce in a heavy-duty resealable plastic bag; cut a small hole in a corner of bag. Write "RIP" with cheese sauce, then repeat with ketchup. Serve immediately.

4. Entrée: Ghostly Pizza from MyRecipes.com

  • 8 oz. slices low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon capers

  2. Spread sauce in an even layer over dough, leaving a 1-inch border around all sides. Bake until underside of dough is golden (lift up pizza with a spatula and take a peek), about 15 minutes.
  3. Use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut ghosts from cheese. Place ghosts on top of hot pizza and bake for 5 minutes.
  4. Place two capers on each piece of cheese for eyes. Let stand 5 minutes on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

  • 1 quart or liter of cranberry juice
  • 1 liter 7-Up or Sprite
  • 1 package of frozen strawberries in syrup
  • Thawed grenadine (pomegranate syrup)

Directions:

  1. Place strawberries in punch bowl.

Ingredients:

  • Batch of chocolate cupcakes
  • White buttercream frosting
  • 2 toothpicks
  • Tube of black decorators icing

  1. Frost the cupcakes using the white icing.
  2. For each cupcake, use the tip of a toothpick to lightly etch the outline of two large Jack Skellington eyes in the frosting.
  3. Slowly pipe black decorator's icing onto the etched lines and then fill in the inner circles. Use another toothpick to spread and smooth the icing.
  4. Pipe on two short lines for a nose. Next, pipe a long line across the bottom of the cupcake for the mouth. For the finishing spooky touch, randomly top the mouth with a bunch of short icing barbs.

8. Dessert: Halloween Oreo Pops from MomEndeavors.com

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Oreos
  • Candy Melts/Bark Coating (dark chocolate, orange, and white with green food coloring)
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Sprinkles
  • Grape (or dark fruit) leather
  • Chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Insert the stick into the cream layer of the Oreos.
  2. Melt your chocolate according to the package directions.
  3. Coat each “Oreo on a stick” with chocolate (dark for bats and orange for the pumpkins). Let harden.
  4. While those are hardening, cut out bat wings. Lay the fruit leather out and cut the shape of bat wings.
  5. For the bats, once the chocolate is just about hard, push in sprinkles to the front.
  6. Use white sprinkles for the mouth and fangs and some large round sprinkles for the eyes.
  7. To affix the wings, just put a dab of melted chocolate on the back and stick it on. Let it harden, face down.

10. Snack: Chocolate-dipped strawberry rats from The Hidden List

Ingredients:

  • 40 sliced almonds
  • 2 3.5-oz. bittersweet or semisweet chocolate bars, coarsely chopped and melted
  • 40 slivered almonds
  • 20 2-inch pieces of black licorice laces

Directions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Trim a small piece from one side of each strawberry so they can rest flat on wax paper.
  2. Insert 2 sliced almonds about 1 inch from pointed end of strawberry to make the ears on the rat. Repeat with remaining strawberries.
  3. Insert a fork into the wide end of a strawberry. Holding the strawberry on fork, spoon the melted chocolate over the fruit to coat, allowing any excess chocolate to drip off.
  4. Place on baking sheet. While chocolate is still wet, arrange 2 slivered almonds to create eyes, then place licorice pieces at the bottom of the wide end of the strawberry to form a tail.
  5. Repeat with remaining strawberries, chocolate, almonds and licorice. Chill until firm.

With Halloween around the corner, you might be stressing about figuring out easy costumes to throw together. Luckily, that little black dress (LBD) you have in your fashion arsenal is super-versatile to wear for Halloween, so you’re already halfway there! You can easily transform your LBD into a ton of different outfits just by adding a couple of accessories. HC is here to give you ideas on how to throw together your easiest (and cutest) Halloween costume yet!

If you’re into Hollywood glamour, take your LBD and transform it into Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly getup from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Chances are you or your friends have a little tiara in that one drawer full of costumes for themed parties and birthday fun, so use it well! Stop by a local costume shop to find Audrey’s classic long gloves and a cigarette holder. If you don’t have a costume store nearby, try a Goodwill or Target—you never know what you’ll find! Finally, glam yourself up in pearls and slip into your black pumps, and you’ll be the most elegant girl at the party.

2. Black Swan

Want to channel your inner ballerina—or maybe just your dark side? Wear a black tutu over a tight black bodycon dress to be the Black Swan. Pull your hair up into a tight bun, ballerina style. If you don’t want to go all out with your makeup by copying the Black Swan makeup, just do a berry lip and dramatic smoky eye. Wear ballet flats, and you’re all set!

3. A flapper

Want to pretend like you’re going to an extravagant party at Gatsby’s and not a frat basement? Then you should dress like it! That ‘20s flapper glamour is really easy to channel in an LBD. Wear some pearls, a boa, a headband and cute pumps and you’ll be ready to sweep Jay Gatsby—or a frat guy—off his feet. Finish off the look with a smoky eye and bee-stung red lips!

4. Biker chick

Biker Chick

A biker chick is an easy last-minute costume idea for the collegiette who wants to get a little edgy this Halloween. Throw a leather jacket on over your LBD and tie a bandana around your head. Wear some fishnets with a pair of motorcycle boots, and for the finishing touch, add some dark eye makeup.

5. Bunny

For all you Mean Girls fans out there, channel Regina George and be a bunny this Halloween. But rather than wearing only a leotard a la Mean Girls, wear your LBD! Bunny ears are really easy to find around Halloween and are pretty much all you need to make your costume clear.

6. Maleficent

Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent is another great way to put your LBD to use. If you can’t find a black or purple cape to go with your outfit, a purple statement necklace is a chic way to get some of Maleficent’s purple in your look. Get a pair of Maleficent’s horns at your local costume shop or tie your hair up in two horns if you want to get creative. For makeup, wear purple eye shadow and a red lip!

7. A Pretty Little Liars character

Being one of the four girls from Pretty Little Liars is the easiest way to put your LBD to use. All you need to do is tease your hair and make it look like you’re covered in dirt—try smearing some brown eye shadow or bronzer over your arms, neck and face. Don’t forget your black heels, and as a finishing touch, try a smoky eye and a pale pink or nude lip.

Use these ideas to transform your LBD into an awesome DIY Halloween costume. They’re super easy to pull off and great if you’re in a last-minute scramble to find a costume!
