If you’re looking for yet another way to express your love for all-things Mean Girls, you’re in luck! This past week, cruelty-free cosmetics company Storybook Cosmetics announced that they will potentially be unveiling an eye shadow palette inspired by the movie!

On Wednesdays, we wear Mean Girls Makeup. (Tentative idea, all depends on licensing )

A photo posted by Mandy, Missy & Erin (@storybookcosmetics) on

If the company is able to use Mean Girls-inspired designs and quotes from the movie, they will be coming out with the palette, which would be complete with eight total shades that draw from the most memorable Mean Girls moments. Potential shades include green and blue (a nod to Cady’s inspirational army pants and flip flops), bubblegum pink (just for Wednesdays) and a blush color called “so fetch” that is just quintessentially Mean Girls.

The doting fangirls and makeup fans behind Storybook Cosmetics decided to combine their passions into a pop-culturally influenced cosmetics company; their current line of products includes brushes that look like wandsà-la Harry Potter. They also appear to have plans for a Wizard of Oz palette, according to their Instagram. Here’s to female-founded companies and, of course, being grool!

What You Should Be For Halloween, Based On Your Major

While the beginning of fall brings about thoughts of pumpkin spiced lattes for some and thrills at the leaves turning colors for others, there is one question that almost all of us have in common: What are we going to be for Halloween? There are so many options that can change every day depending on what our mood is; how can we possibly pick the best one? Well, maybe your studies can help you! We’ve compiled a list of costume ideas based on your college major.

Journalism

Those who major in journalism aren’t doing it for fame or money; they do it because someone needs to report on developing news and update the world on anything from politics to entertainment. Journalists love what they do! That’s not to say other majors don’t, but journalists tend to take their love for gathering information to the next level, so if this is your major, you might want to lean towards a costume that’s timely and relevant, like a punny political costume or even your j-crush! Have some fun with it too! Comical j-crushes work as well AKA Ron Burgundy is fair game.

Rory Gilmore is a cute and easy costume to choose, and very timely too! You could always go as a newspaper or be even more creative and be a newsie (take a night off from writing the news to spread the news!).

Business

Business majors are super put-together, extremely professional and don’t half-ass anything. Any costume that makes you look good is right up your alley. Stick with what you know and go with a professional theme. Whether you choose to make it sexy or go the comical route, you will give it your all and rock it!

A cute and hip mobster might be something you'd want to try! Superheroes are also right for you; incorporate the business attire with a hero like Superman/Supergirl or be Bruce Banner before the Green Guy shows up for that added doctor's coat.

History

Every history major has a soft spot for anything remotely history related, and they have a tendency to freak out about the subject as well. While you are sometimes quiet individuals, you love to have fun and are low-key funny and creative! When mixed together, history majors have the best costumes. You can go for a decade-inspired theme or any historical figure under the sun! Basically anything that looks remotely period-esque is so you! Be careful though; you want people to be able to get or at least guess what you are. Don't go too obscure.

Why not be one of the best female characters of all time dressed up in period clothing? This was from season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when Buffy wanted to dress up in a costume that Angel could relate to (what else would you want for your 18th-century boyfriend?). Or you could go with basically anything decades: a '60s hippy, a Greek goddess or possibly a popular '90s character.

Theater

Theater majors are super outgoing and get super into their craft. Your first or current love is anything Broadway so bring that dramatic flair with something from The Great White Way! Whether vintage or modern, Broadway never fails and neither do the movie remakes. And being a drama major, you’re going to knock it out of the park, possibly with some reenactments in tow.

Broadway has no limit to the amount of amazing characters you could portray and there's a musical/play for every personality. Be a sexy, yet villainous Velma from Chicago, pre- or post-makeover Sandy from Grease or ambitious and lively Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray. And who can't go wrong with the Schuyler Sisters from the ever-popular Hamilton

Pre-Med and Nursing

Anyone on the pre-med track and any nursing major has the ability to juggle 50 things at once while also staying on top of your schoolwork. You also have patience to share thanks to all the readings you do, tests you take and schooling in general. Anyone on these tracks deserves a night to themselves, partying it up and making the most of a night off (or pushing your responsibilities back just this once). Go for any costume that’s fun, creative and completely different than scrubs.

Love 'em or hate them, the Jersey Shore girls are the epitome of a wild night out. Go out and channel their energy to find a new guido or just fist pump your way through Halloween! If they aren't for you, go with some punny costume like Facebook (write book on your face) or a cereal killer (you should be able to get that one).

Education

Although not all education majors go on to work with younger children, a lot do, so you must be young at heart. With that ability to connect with kids, you definitely have a soft spot for the lighthearted. Education majors would love dressing up as a Disney princess or someone from a popular kid-friendly movie. Trick-or-treating isn’t just for children!

Powerpuff Girls, little yellow minions and princesses are all fair game. Go with your gut and revisit your childhood faves this year! Everyone will love you if you dress up as Kim Possible or Piglet.

English

English majors can sometimes get too caught up in your books. But like anyone else, you take pride in the work you’ve accomplished and always strive for more! This Halloween, you’re going to want to live out the best part of your major: exploring all those storybook characters! You’re constantly reading, and most likely have from a young age, so live out your dreams and prance around as a Bella or Hermione or even mix it up with a comic book character like Harley Quinn or Black Widow!

We are still in the midst of all the new superhero movies, so anyone from Iron Man to Katana to Spiderman to Black Panther are up for grabs! If Marvel and DC Comics aren't your thing or are too mainstream, any character from a book would work for you! Katniss or Hazel Grace are always good choices.

Political Science

Alright you poli-sci majors! This is your year! The presidential elections of 2016 are in full swing, whether we like it or not, and you folks definitely do. This is your time to not only show your political prowess but also poke fun at all things you may not like in our government. You can be your favorite candidate, your least favorite candidate or a fictional political character who we wished was real so we could vote for her (or him).

Leslie Knope rules the world (or at least Pawnee). You and your squad could even be the whole Parks and Rec gang, because they are active citizens in their local governement and they are all iconic. Selina Meyer, main character of VEEP is another strong female you can show off on Halloween.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

STEM majors are cool. You are smart. Like any other task you’re faced with, Halloween will be an easy ace for you. It’s also not something you’re stressing too much about; you know you’re going to look bomb and have a great time anyway. This year, you’ll want to wear a costume consisting of items you already own; that can mean a jersey or some ears with a matching outfit. Effortless and cool, like you.

Be your favorite athlete, whether it's Lebron James, Jonathan Toews or Christiano Ronaldo. You could also pull a Karen and wear sexy lingerie with some animal ears. Get your friends together with this one and you could recreate the whole Mean Girls cast when they go out on Halloween (duh)!

Halloween is prime time for your fun and creative side to come out! Whether you go out all of Halloweekend or just on All Hallows' Eve, we hope you find the perfect costume for you! And although you can dress however you want, whenever you want, “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress [however she wants] and no other girls can say anything about it.” That’s how the quote goes, right?

16 Things All Basic Girls Do During Fall

Like Christmas and Thanksgiving, fall is a season that only comes around once a year. The season isn't a national holiday, although it totally should be because it's arguably every girl's favorite season. With fall comes the changing leaves, cute fashion and the spookiest day of the year. This is the time when basic girls emerge from their hibernation. We know how to kick off fall the right way. Beware of the pumpin-spice haters (they're everywhere).

1. Your multiple pairs of boots come out of hiding

All hail the power of effortlessly-chic riding boots.

2. You get pumpkin spice lattes

This is so obvious it hurts. It's impossible to start off fall right without this.

3. You immediately head to Trader Joe's and purchase anything with a pumpkin spice label on it

Literally, anything. Pumpkin spice cereal? Tortilla chips? Check and check.

4. You flood your Instagram with filtered images of the changing leaves

Better yet, a picture of you jumping into a pile of leaves. If I didn't instagram it, did it really happen?

5. Your Facebook profile pic includes you standing next to a giant pumpkin

It has to be shared with my entire friend list so that everyone knows I spent all day searching for the perfect pumpkin. Which, let's be real, totally isn't the case.

6. You hop on that Halloween costume grind

Coordinating group outfits with your other, equally-basic friends is your specialty.

7. You start wearing flannels all day, every day

The weather outside doesn't matter. Even on those odd warm days, I'll sweat through my flannel with pride.

8. You buy every fall-themed body lotion, wash and hand soap available at Bath & Body Works

Cinnamon bun-scented hand soap? Yes, please.

9. You go apple picking in an orchard

Your level of basiness is off the charts.

10. Bake a pie with those apples you picked at the orchard

After you've properly alerted friends and aquaintances through your tweets, Instagram and Facebook photos that you went apple picking, of course.

11. Visit a haunted house with all your friends

You're not doing October right if this doesn't happen.

12. Anyone who says "I don't like the taste of pumpkin" is not the kind of person you associate with

They're just not trustworthy.

13. You spend way too much during holiday sales

Fall serves to fuel my shopping addiction. Honestly though, do I even need a reason to go shopping?

14. You wouldn't be caught dead without a scarf on

You wear them. Every. Single. Day. Infinity scarves, blanket scarves, the type is irrelevant. You have one to match every outfit, duh.

15. Aside from pumpkin spice, apple cider is your go-to beverage

Warm or cold, it's sweet and spiced. What more could you ask for in a fall drink?

16. You treat your annual viewing of Hocus Pocus with the same importance as you would the Super Bowl

You've seen this film too many times to count. Doesn't get any less amazing the more you watch it.

Whether you're willing to admit it or not, we all have a little bit of basic inside of us. It's an undeniable fact. Boots, pumpkin spice and everything nice. During fall, what's not to like?

Is It Ever Okay To Snoop On Your SO?

Picture this: You’re on a dinner date with your boyfriend at your favorite restaurant. You just sat down at the table, you’re discussing which fried Italian appetizer you’re going to split and you can’t help but notice that he’s glued to his phone.

You try to shake it off and engage him in an exciting conversation about the game coming up or his Fantasy Football league. Still, despite your best efforts, he seems more preoccupied with what’s happening on his iPhone than he does with you. You can’t help but wonder who he’s talking to, or what he’s talking about.

When dinner’s over, you head back to his place to watch Netflix.  He gets up to go to the bathroom, leaving his phone on the couch. You try to ignore it, but it keeps lighting up with Snapchat and text notifications. Now’s your chance to see who he’s been talking to all night.

Do you check it?

With so many social media networks, it can be tempting to want to know what your SO is up to at all times, who he/she is talking to, and if they’re being loyal to your relationship.

For some girls, “snooping” is just an indirect way of keeping up with his day-to day. Nicole, a junior at Temple University, feels that there should be no boundaries between two people in love, and that checking up is totally fine.

“I don't think it’s unhealthy to want to snoop on your boyfriend,” she says. “I have been in a relationship for three years and I still look in his inbox, not because I don't trust him, because I do. It’s just natural to want to know what they are up to and who they are talking to. I think I would snoop less if I was scared I was going to find something.”

Sarah*, a sophomore at Temple University, learned the hard way that social media can have a negative impact on a relationship. She began noticing that her boyfriend was constantly Snapchatting other people, but never responding to her own snaps. She later discovered that he was Snapchatting multiple girls from his past while she was dating him, after asking to see his phone. Still, Sarah believes that privacy in a relationship is important, but if you suspect something is up, it’s fine to ask your partner about it.

“I’m not saying look at each other’s phones on the daily, because privacy is also a key factor in a relationship, but if something pops up that bothers you, it should be okay to ask questions and find out what is going on with your significant other or the person you’re worried about,” she says. Trust is key in any relationship.

The facts

In a study published by The Telegraph in 2013, it was discovered that guys are actually twice as likely to snoop than girls. The study also found that 31 percent of those surveyed said that if they discovered their partner snooping, they would end the relationship entirely.

Is snooping worth jeopardizing the relationship?

Mae, a junior at Temple University, feels that if there’s trust in the relationship, there’s no real reason to snoop.

“In the past I had my ex-boyfriend’s password for Facebook and I never needed to go on it until he decided to end things with me,” she says. A week later, he goes out with some other girl! I still had his password, and boom, I found out he'd been talking to her for a while. My recent ex always had his phone on hand, and wouldn't let me look at it or anything. One day this girl Snapchatchatted him in the morning, and he was sleeping and I knew his password too and decided to look."

So, what do you do?

According to relationship expert and college speaker Sheryl Kurland, snooping is not the answer. “Snooping is wrong, wrong, wrong,” she says. “You may not find evidence of what you’re suspicious of, but I guarantee you'll find something that raises a red flag. This creates more problems. Additionally, reading what someone wrote can be interpreted many different ways, all of which are probably inaccurate.”

While snooping may give you reassurance, there are definitely some repercussions, especially if you find something you don’t like.

Invasion of privacy

When it comes to snooping, it may be best to practice the Golden Rule. Would you be comfortable with your boyfriend/girlfriend going through your phone? If yes, then you should be comfortable asking your SO about anything that’s on your mind, especially if you suspect that something may be going on. If they find out, they may have difficulties trusting you in the future, and feel that they has to hide things from you even more, perpetuating the issue.

“It all boils down to trust,” Kurland says. “If you can’t trust your significant other, you shouldn’t be in a relationship with him or her.”

We're creatures of habit

If you snoop once, you may want to continue snooping. Depending on what you find, you may feel like you can always get away with it without him/her realizing. In a way, it might be a bit thrilling. Chances are, if you start, it will be very difficult to stop, especially once you start knowing every little thing going on in their life.

It may represent a larger issue

If you really feel inclined to snoop, there may be something more serious going on with you two than just being on the phone too much. This can mean a number of things, ranging from your own insecurity or to having little faith in the relationship.

Having a Bad Taste in Movies Means You're Highly Intelligent

Do you constantly ignore what Rotten Tomatoes has to say about a film and go see it regardless? Does one of your favorite movies have Ashton Kutcher or Zac Efron in it? Would you consider The Benchwarmers a comedic masterpiece? Do not feel bad if you answered yes to any (or all!) of these questions because your unusual tastes might reveal something about your intelligence.

In a study reported by the Poetics journal, participants were asked about their taste in movies—trashy movies, in particular. The study defined these bad movies as cheap, low-budget films that you'd be embarrassed to admit to watching. Participants were asked to explain just what they liked about watching these movies.

Refinery29 reports that the people who likes these films are actually considered to be smart people referred to as “cultural omnivores.”

The study explains that “cultural omnivores” are viewers who “attribute to trash films not just amusing/entertaining qualities, but also a positive, transgressive deviance from the cinematic mainstream, and their appreciation of these films is coupled with marked preferences for art cinema.”

So, don't be ashamed of your less-than-popular film choices. You just might be a satirical genius in disguise. Movie night, anyone?

6 Ways to Make the Most of Halloween After College

$
0
0

Gone are the days where we spent the first half of the semester carefully planning out a different, inventive costume for each and every night of Halloweekend, or multiple Halloweekends, if Halloween fell in the middle of the week. In college, all we had to worry about was making sure our outfits were cute, our drinks were full and our makeup was on point. Kids didn’t come running up to our dorm doors begging for candy, guests didn’t have to be adequately entertained and you didn’t have to face your boss in your costume.

Don’t worry, though. You may be at a loss now that animal ears and a Rubbermaid tub full of jungle juice won’t really cut it, but we’ve got your back.

1. Dressing up at work

Depending on where you work, you may get to dress up on Halloween, but your costume choice if you’re a bartender is going to vary from that if you’re a software engineer; it’s important to dress for the workspace you’re in! Even though the occasion calls for disguises, remembering where you are when you select your attire is key.

Kathleen Rotondo, a developer at IBM, says, “Please be smart about this; there are lines that can’t be crossed. This isn't just dressing up to go out with friends. It’s your job and should be treated as such. When it comes to gore, less is usually more, but there’s no reason not go all out on a fictional character or something that’s not so scary.” This also applies to traditionally sexy costumes—there is a time and place for them, and a professional setting is not it!

“Puns based on the work place go a long way,” Kathleen says. “A guy from work last year dressed up in a white shirt that said ‘404 Error: Costume Not Found,’ and given that we're programmers, everyone lost their minds over it.”

If your employer will let you dress up for the occasion, you should definitely take advantage of the occasion! Get creative with your costumes, but be smart about your choices.

2. Decorating your space

Whether it’s your home or your office, there is such a thing as too much or too soon. You don’t want HR called on you for having a plastic weapon that looks a little too real, or the police called for what people mistake for a murder scene.

Danielle Buchanan, a graduate of Eckerd College, loves to visit Target, TJ Maxx and Homegoods to shop for her holiday decorations. “They’re all so fun, and pretty inexpensive!” she says. Target’s dollar spot always has great finds for holiday supplies, like battery-powered LED lights and bat-shaped chalk boards!

Haleigh Kopinski, a graduate of Point Park and Social Media Community Manager for Aerie, likes to make her own decorations! “I take one weekend to just completely ‘fall out’ and do DIYs. Last year I made a welcome sign out of fake leaves, potpourri light jars, and candles!”

Kathleen found that fairy lights and spooky pictures worked the best for her office! “Classic pumpkins are a great idea, but if they're real be careful about making sure you get rid of them before they rot; nobody wants to visit your office if it smells like that,” she says. “I also keep a bowl of candy on my desk for anyone who visits!” You don’t want to do anything that could make you look bad or create drama within the office!

Overly grotesque décor, such as very bloody or lifelike, recreations or references to real-life crimes, or campy versions of décor dedicated to cultural holidays, like the Day of the Dead, could all instigate tension between individuals within the office. There’s a fine line between appreciation and appropriation, and crossing it could create hostility and awkwardness.

3. Seasonally appropriate snacks and drinks

In the land and time of pumpkin spice, a rarity available to us mostly during the fall, it can be difficult to open your mind to other flavors. There are lots of great recipes, for drinks and snacks a like, to get you ready for Halloween, pumpkin not required.

Haleigh likes to create her own recipes around this time of year. “Pinterest is a life-saver, but I enjoy pumpkin everything and apple cider sangria a lot!” she says.

Witch hats made of Hershey’s kisses and fudge stripes and cocktails called “Dark and Spooky” are sure to get the Halloween spirit flowing and all of your guests ready for the party.

4. Throwing a party

One of the best things about Halloween in college was Halloweekend(s), the several days, or even a whole week, in a row where costumes ranged from full-body morph suits to outfits made out of rolls of caution tape. Everybody was in the same boat, ready to celebrate all day, every day. The prospect of a party to bring you back to your heyday may be just what you need to get out of the post-grad funk, but your neighbors in your post-grad quarters, be it the house next door or the apartments all around, probably don’t feel the same way.

If you’re going to throw a party, you’ve got to be conscious of your surroundings. Surely you’ll have some neighbors that want to celebrate with you, but you’ll also have young children that need to go to bed when they get back from trick-or-treating and older neighbors that don’t want to hear your screams all night.

Also keep in mind the potential clean-up. Many decorations, like fake blood or broken glow sticks, could stain your carpets, curtains, walls and upholstery if you don’t know how or forget to clean it up that night.

It may be in your best interest to take the party to somebody else’s house or out on the town, but make sure you have rides planned out. Kathleen suggests taking an Uber if it’s available in your area, especially when alcohol is involved. “It will be dark and children are little,” she says. “The last thing you want to be is responsible for hitting somebody.” Driving while intoxicated to any degree is no joke, and the more people you have to Uber with, the less congested the roads will be and the more money you’ll keep in your pocket.

5. Preparing for trick-or-treaters

If you don’t throw or go to a party, hopefully you’ll be participating in the most popular part of the holiday.

It’s been a long standing tradition that if you’re accepting trick-or-treaters you leave your porch light on, and if you’re not offering treats you keep it dark. A lot of overzealous children don’t follow the rules, though, and even if your porch light is off, they’ll still ring your bell or knock on your door in the hopes of a sugar rush. You can purchase or make a sign that says “Trick or Treat” on one side and “Out of Candy” on the other if you don’t want to participate, or want to make sure they stop coming once the treats are gone, but Halloween is a really exciting time for kids and if you have the means to participate, you could make any number of kids’ nights.

“Remember how magical trick or treating could be? Make it that way for another kid,” Kathleen says. “The excitement on their faces and the gratitude they offer will make you so glad you did!” Even if all you want to do is sit inside with a drink and a scary movie the night of, keeping a bowl of candy nearby for those who come to visit will make everyone happy.

6. Marathoning holiday favorites

Whether it’s to kick off the season (and it’s never too early to do so) or as a quiet night in instead of celebrating, a Halloween movie marathon is a must. There’s nothing like a Disney Channel Original Movie or a horror film to get you pumped for Halloween.

“I'm still a sucker for Halloweentown,” Summer Arlexis, a graduate of Boston University and a fashion and beauty staff writer for Bustle.com, says. “I mean, what 90s kid wouldn't consider that a classic? DCOMs are always giving me life!” And who could forget the scariest DCOM ever created, Don’t Look Under the Bed? Even in our twenties, these kiddy Halloween classics still cause us to drop everything on the nights they air!

Haleigh says, “One tradition that has stuck from college is that every year, my two old roommates and I get together to have a wine night, and watch the most awful scary movies, like Sorority Row and the Scream series.” You can even take old traditions like this and use the time to create new ones, like decorating your own fall or Halloween-themed wine glasses to use.

Whether it’s a throwback, classic, or family friendly film, it’ll do the job to get your ready for anything the Halloween season has to throw at you, and as long as you act safely and smartly now that you’re out in the real world, with real consequences, this Halloween will be just as amazing as all the ones before it were.

Trump Says the Election is Rigged, But Not Even Pence Believes That

Donald Trump went on another one of his infamous twitter rampages Sunday evening and Monday morning, tweeting away in his typical format: a blanket assertion plus a general emotion he feels (usually sad!). This time he sometimes replaced the emotion with "Media rigging election!", but you get the gist: Trump thinks the election is being rigged.

This isn't the first time Donald Trump has accused the media of more negatively focusing on him, but what's ironic is that the next slew of tweets were links to stories about Hillary Clinton and her emails, and the news that the State Department urged the FBI to declassify some of the classified emails she sent. This latest email revelation has not been good for Clinton, and is hardly being treated lightly by the media.

So Trump contradicts himself just a little bit there, but it gets worse. His running mate can't even completely back him up. In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press", host Chuck Todd questioned whether Governor Mike Pence also believed in Trump's idea of a "rigged election." Pence admitted he didn't consider the actual election to be rigged, but said the media is biased against Trump.

"We're going to accept the will of the American people," Gov. Pence said. "But between now and election day we're going to work our hearts out against all odds, against most of you in the national media. We're going to go lay out a story for a stronger more prosperous America."

For most of the interview, Pence stuck with that line of reasoning and didn't venture to substantiate Trump's claims that the election itself was rigged. We don't blame him considering Trump seems to think SNL can rig an election. They're not that good, Donald.

Some College Students Believe 'Free Speech' Isn't Always Good

Today, college campuses have become hotbeds for debate over issues of racism, sexism and basically any other "ism" you could think of. As students attempt to make their universities more attuned to the needs and safety of different groups on campus, a kind of divide has opened up between campus activists and more old-school beneficiaries of the status quo—and it seems that the line between what's considered freedom of speech and what's considered offensive is getting thinner everyday. Part of PEN America's new report, "And Campus for All: Diversity, Inclusion, and Freedom of Speech at U.S. Universities," explores how college campuses are attempting to reconcile the sensitivities of students with the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of speech.

The report self-describes itself as "an investigation into the apparent chasm that has opened up between student activists and free speech advocates." Student activists are using their freedom of speech to protest others whom they perceive as using their free speech in the wrong way—to spew offenses and harm others. The study looks into how concepts commonly thrown around on any college campus, such as "safe spaces," "trigger warnings" and "microagressions," could conflict with principles of freedom of speech.

Three specific case studies were used to try and illuminate the issue: a conflict over cultural appropriation at Yale, an Israelie/Palestine debate at UCLA and a Title IX dispute at Northwestern. The three cases cover three distinct issues, and the report attempts to determine whether or not the outcomes hindered free speech.

The investigation finds that some students do see freedom of speech as a tool that allows students to behave or talk offensively. In the end, though, the report recognizes that "offensiveness" is subjective, and limiting freedom of speech based on something that varies from person to person can be a dangerous threat to students' basic rights. The report concludes with PEN America's "Principles on Campus Free Speech." While the authors of the report sympathize with those are affected by some negative uses of freedom of speech, PEN pragmatically admits that "maintaining campus as an open space requires accepting that certain offenses will occur; in no community or home is everyone comfortable all the time." Ultimately, the reports asserts that "free speech is alive and well on campus" but cautions that it "must be vigilantly guarded if its continued strength is to be assured."

Melania Trump Defends Her Husband's Behavior Toward Women; Says Sexual Assault Allegations are 'Lies'

Melania Trump has stepped forward to defend her husband Donald Trump after multiple accusations of him sexually assaulting women have surfaced over the past week. Melania spoke with Anderson Cooper in a CNN interview to share her opinion of the women linked to these accusations, and try to improve her husband's public image—which has taken a serious beating since an Access Hollywood tape of Trump making inappropriate comments emerged over a week ago.

"I believe my husband," she told Cooper. "This [the allegations] was all organized from the opposition. And with the details...did they ever check the background of these women? They don't have any facts."

Melania specifically called out Natasha Stoynoff, the PEOPLE writer who published her story of an encounter with Trump in the magazine. Stoynoff was interviewing Trump a year after he married Melania when he took her into his room and began kissing her. Stoynoff wrote that after she distanced herself from Trump following the incident, Melania ran into her and asked why they never saw her anymore—a claim Melania denies. "I was never friends with her," Melania told Cooper. "I would not recognize her."

When discussing the Access Hollywood tape, Melania also said that her husband and host Billy Bush's conversation was "boy talk" and that Bush likely "egged on" Trump to talk so inappropriately. "Sometimes I say I have two boys at home: I have my young son, and I have my husband," she said, laughing. "But I know how some men talk, and that's how I saw it, yes."

However, she also admitted to being surprised when the tape came out, claiming that she never heard Trump use that kind of language and that he's a gentleman. While the majority of the footage discussed Melania's thoughts about her husband's scandals, she also took the opportunity to share what national issues she's passionate about. "Social media is very damaging for the children," she told Cooper. "We need to guide them and teach them about social media."

This interview marks the first time since Melania's controversial Republican National Convention speech in July that she has taken an active role in Trump's campaign. The New York Times reports that, with Trump's favorability dropping dangerously, campaign advisers want Melania to participate more. But Melania hinted in Cooper's interview that she has very little control over what Trump chooses to do, saying, "I give him many advice, but sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn't, and he will do what he wants to do at the end, and I will do what I want to do."

17 Sexy Halloween Costumes

If you love to show a little skin on Halloween, here’s your go-to list of ideas for keeping your seductive edge this year. Whether you choose a tried-and-true, stereotypical costume with a new twist or a costume that's classy with a hint of allure, get ready to turn heads this fall!

1. SWAT Team
 Member

Dressing up as a police officer is pretty overdone, so take it to the next level and be a badass SWAT team member. Wear all black, add some high boots and criss-cross black belts around your hips. Get a cute white T-shirt (perhaps under a black jacket or vest) and write “SWAT” across the chest. Add a Nerf or Airsoft gun, and you’re ready for action!

2. Rebel Angel

You don’t have to choose between wings or horns! Be the best of both by dressing as an angel who joined the “dark side,” so to speak. You can decide how much angel and how much devil to add to this costume. Dress in a classic white dress but add a studded belt and heavy makeup, or wear a slinky red or black dress with some wings and a halo!

3. 1920s Flapper

Channel The Great Gatsby in this classic and classy outfit! Your best bet is to check out a local thrift store for a vintage dress. The necessary accessories to complete this ensemble are layers of pearls, a thin-brimmed hat adorned with a brooch or flowers and some comfortable, low heels for dancing like it’s the Jazz Age.

4. Librarian

An argyle sweater with a short skirt and heels? A plaid skirt with a thin, airy blouse? The sexy librarian is at the juxtaposition of nerdy and mysterious. Make geek chic with some classy frames, a simple but classy pencil skirt and some “a-little-too-high” heels. You can carry a book or two with your clutch to complete the look.

5. Huntress

Channel your inner Katniss Everdeen with a sexy huntress costume. Pair a hooded capelet with a pair of high-heeled boots, tights and a simple dress. Don't forget to complete the look with your bow and arrow!

6. Goddess

Be better than the toga. Take the overdone goddess look and try something more original. Instead of the classic unnamed Roman goddess decked out in white, do your research and pick a specific deity to embody. Explore Celtic, Norse and Hindu mythology. Be Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, or Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of luck. For her Halloween party in 2008, Victoria’s Secret model Heidi Klum went all out for her costume, transforming herself into the 10-armed goddess of death, Kali. It was a frightening look, but she rocked it!

7. Cavewoman

Use The Flintstones as inspiration for a sexy cavewoman look. Shred the hem of your old leopard-print dress to create that tattered, prehistoric look. Pair it with a fuzzy vest, a club and even a bone necklace, and you'll be ready to (bed)rock!

8. Girl Scout

You're never too old for Girl Scout cookies. Pair a green jumper with a white T-shirt and tights, and add a sash, a green cap and a neckerchief to complete the look. Bring along some Thin Mints if you're looking to make some new friends, too.

9. Convict

Haven't you heard that orange is the new black? Get an old orange dress and paint the word "Guilty" on the back. Complete the look with some handcuffs, a pair of black boots and your own personal placard. Get ready to take some mug shots!

10. Madonna

We don’t mean Madonna today; we mean this Madonna of the 1980s. The music video for “Like a Virgin” is chock-full of trademark Madonna fashion, from the black cutout dress paired with bright blue leather leggings to the over-the-top lacy white bridal gown.

11.

Painter

Get artsy this Halloween. Buy a plain white tank and a matching white baseball cap to splatter with different colors of paint. Pair the two with some jean shorts, suspenders and your paint-splattered brush to carry around for the night. Instant work of art!

12. Lioness

Possibly the most overdone sexy costume, the cat costume can vary from latex-clad Catwoman to furry ears and a tail. If you want to be an animal, dress up as a tiger and be a sexy Hobbes!

13. Disney Heroines

There are so many to choose from, yet the classic princesses like Cinderella and Belle tend to be done more for Halloween. It’s a shame because some of the non-princess Disney heroines like Megara from Hercules and Wendy from Peter Pan, are just as sexy, if not more so! Instead of being the 50th collegiette dressed as Jasmine, layer yourself in bright colors and scarves and bring the gypsy flair of Esmeralda, or don a slinky purple dress and channel your inner Megara.

14. Victoria's Secret Angel

If you’re not comfortable heading out the door in just lingerie (and we don’t blame you!), opt for the slightly tamer but still-sexy VS angel robe costume. All you need is a lacy black bra and a pink silk robe. Loosen the robe so your bra peeks through a bit, and don’t forget those signature Victoria’s Secret beachy waves! The best part? You can totally pair this look with flip-flops!

15. “Trashy”

Make yourself a dress out of a trash bag. All you need is a pair of scissors!

16. Franzia

Go as everyone’s favorite affordable beverage by rocking a plastic “bag of wine” mini skirt and wearing a dress underneath in the color of your favorite Franzia flavor. Bonus points for carrying around actual Franzia all night!

17. Hot Sauce

Get a few of your best girlfriends together and go as different types of hot sauce (mild, hot and fire). All you need is a minidress in yellow, orange or red and some felt letters. Add some flirty sayings, and you’re good to go!

Mizzou Frat Allegedly Gave Pledges Date Rape Drugs As Part of Initiation

The University of Missouri's Delta Upsilon fraternity is in hot water after the school's Title IX office received several stories from students about members giving pledges drugs they could use to "incapacitate and sexually assault women," the Columbia Daily Tribune reports. Yes, that means the frat was allegedly giving out roofies as part of their pledging process. Does Mizzou's DU chapter ring a bell? That's because back in September it was suspended because members shouted racist and sexist slurs at black students from the Legion of Black Collegians. Yeah, this fraternity is full of upstanding young gentlemen.

MU Title IX administrator Ellen Eardley contacted the Delta Upsilson chapter through a letter, writing, "Active members of the Delta Upilson fraternity allegedly provided each new member with three pills and instructed them to drug women for the purpose of incapacitating them prior to engaging in sexual activity."

In response to the possibility of using these drugs, police have at least two open investigations regarding "date rape" drugs. Although nothing has been said about those specific cases, the chapter was linked to two incidents earlier this semester involving underage drinking and a confused 18-year-old woman who didn't know who made her drinks at a DU party or if she had had sex that night.

The DU chapter supposedly responded to these reports with a now deleted tweet suggesting that they're not too shaken about the police attention.

Mizzou's DU section isn't even the only chapter linked to harmful behavior. DU fraternities at Swarthmore College and Washington State University both had their reputations affected by similar incidents, with Washington State even suspending its chapter after a claim of assault and a case of alcohol poisoning at the frat house, Jezebel points out.

In the long run, the DU fraternity faces no longer being recognized by Mizzou, meaning that the group would no longer have school space for functions and wouldn't be able to participate in schoolwide events, according to ABC 17. However, the fraternity would eventually have the chance to appeal or reapply for acceptance.

Could Bernie Sanders Have Won the Democratic Nomination With a Little More Luck?

$

As Nov. 8 creeps closer and closer, supporters of Bernie Sanders are looking back on what could have been if Sanders had earned the Democratic nomination. Many believe that if Hillary Clinton’s email leak had come sooner, prior to the primaries, that Sanders could have stood a chance, The New York Times reports. If he could have won Iowa, or attacked Clinton more strongly on her emails (none of this "enough with the damn emails" stuff) things may have turned out differently.

While most Sanders supporters have moved on to support Clinton’s candidacy, many are more hesitant to do so. Even those that are now offering their support to Clinton suggest that Sanders’ campaign was not taken seriously enough, especially in light of emails leaked from the Democratic National Convention this past summer which seemed to exhibit favoritism for Clinton among DNC leaders. There's also Clinton's wealth (the Clinton family net worth is around $110 million), which Clinton said in one of her Wall Street speeches made her "kind of far removed" from her "solid middle-class upbringing."

Because of this, Sanders supporters fear that she won’t support many of the progressive policies she claims to champion once she is elected. “The people really have to get together and make sure some of these agenda items on the platform become a reality,” Wong told the Times.

For his part, Sanders has refused to speak to any of his own likely frustrations due to the email leaks, and continues to campaign in support of Clinton for the United States’ next president. This doesn’t mean that his supporters should blindly follow his lead, though.

When asked at MSNBC’s Presidential Town Hall what he would do if he didn’t win the nomination, Sanders said, “We are not a movement where I can snap my fingers and say to you or to anybody else what you should do, because you won’t listen to me. You shouldn’t. You’ll make these decisions yourself,” the Observer reported in September. Progressive proponents need to continue pushing the nominee to support what the people believe in, keeping Sanders’ movement alive.

What could have been still can be, but only if we make it happen.

Billy Bush Has Been Fired For His Part in Trump's Hot Mic Video

Following national backlash due to his part in the recently leaked footage of presidential candidate Donald Trump making lewd, sexually aggressive comments about women, Cosmopolitan reports that, after a brief suspension, Billy Bush has officially been let go from the Today Show and permanently released from the NBC network. Bush was only a co-host on the Today show for two months, after replacing Willie Geist in the 9 a.m. hour in August, but had worked for NBC in various capacities for years. Show executive Noah Oppenheim wrote in a staff memo that while Bush was a new member of the Today team, he was a valued colleague. “We wish him success as he goes forward," Oppenheim said.

Since his suspension on Oct. 9, two days after the tape was released, NBC and Bush’s reps have been negotiating the terms of his exit, Fox News reports. Bush’s lawyer says that Bush is a free agent after his NBC departure. While the financial terms of his deal are confidential, Page Six reports that NBC sources told them that Bush is likely to receive $10 million, the full value of his three year contract.

"Obviously I’m embarrassed and ashamed," Bush said in a statement following the release of the video. "It’s no excuse, but this happened 11 years ago—I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry." Monday night, after news of his exit, he said, "I am deeply grateful for the conversations I've had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues. I look forward to what lies ahead."

According to Vanity Fair, NBC was apparently getting ready to throw Bush a surprise party in celebration of his arrival to the Today show. Ironically, Bush himself is allegedly responsible for the release of the tape that lost him his job. At a party in August, he is reported to have bragged about having a tape of Trump acting like a "real dog".

Let this be a message to all: being young and foolish is no excuse, and anything you say or do can come back to hurt you in the future.

I'm Disappointed That Mindy Lahiri Is Dating Again

The Mindy Project has given us four full seasons of quirky Mindy Lahiri's dating antics, from awful first dates to tumultous relationships to a surprise pregnancy. However, the new season promised something a little different: a single Mindy! After rejecting both Jody and Danny, Mindy decided she was going to embrace the single life and try being alone for a little while.

As someone who also went through a messy breakup (minus the baby drama) and has chosen to stay single, I was elated that Mindy decided to choose the same route. As a mom, doctor and entrepreneur, Mindy deserves time to herself to grow as a woman and figure out what she wants. However, Mindy's single life only lasted a hot minute with the entrance of the admitedly adorable Ben, a pediatric nurse helping to take care of Leo. Mindy and Ben's relationship took a turn for the romantic in only the third episode of the season with a steamy kiss between the doctor and nurse.

As much as I love the sexual tension of a will-they-or-won't-they relationship, Mindy's jump to a new guy so soon after deciding to stay single left me disappointed. Although I love Ben's tenderness with Leo—and his face ain't bad to look at either—his entrance into Mindy's personal life leaves little room for her to focus on herself. Sitcoms like The Mindy Project are mainly targeted at women, and I always firmly believed that Mindy Lahiri, though flawed, is an awesome female role model to have on mainstream television. She's independent, brilliant and brave, and has killer fashion sense. However, she's also fallen victim to the classic female-lead-in-a-sitcom trope: requiring a love interest to stay relevant.

Many television shows, even in 2016, focus on female characters either lamenting about being alone or actively searching for a new relationship—or both. So when Mindy vowed in the season premiere to stay single, it was a breath of fresh air for us single-and-proud ladies. Although I want Mindy to find happiness, I was excited to see how the show would tackle plots revolving around Mindy herself and not necessarily her relationship with a man. So it's safe to say I was confused when Mindy kissed Ben only two episodes after declaring her single status. Even Jody, when he found out about Mindy's possible relationship with Ben, seemed hurt and confused since she rejected him in order "to be alone" for a while.

As of yet, Mindy and Ben's relationship is limited to a couple kisses, so we will have to wait until next week to see if it goes any further. Will she continue her journey into singledom, or will we be seeing a lot more of Ben? Ultimately, our fave ~girl boss~ will choose whatever makes her happy in the long run, and I can't help but support that.

5 Ways to Incorporate Men’s Clothing into Your Wardrobe

$

The school year is significantly underway at this point, and it’s official: we’ve run out of outfits. Thankfully, though, there’s a whole other section to our favorite stores (as well as the closets of our dads or SOs) that provides us with plenty of other options—menswear!

While the daring celeb trend of ladies donning men’s suits may not be for you and you might not be quite prepared to go fully androgynous, there are still plenty of ways to use men’s pieces in your wardrobe. We polled some collegiettes for their favorite ways to incorporate men’s clothing into their wardrobe. Read on for what they came up with!

1. T-shirts

Oversized t-shirts are perfect for dresses and can be styled in really versatile ways. “Don't be afraid to be oversized! I make XL mens t-shirts and hoodies into dresses all the time,” says Brianne James, a senior at Ryerson University. Wrap a belt or button-down of some sort around your waist to give the dress some shape, or accessorize everywhere else and make a simple, solid t-shirt stand out.

You can slice up or stitch together anything you want if you start with a basic t-shirt. “The key to making them look a little tailored is in cuffing the sleeves (but not too much) two folds will do,” adds Brianna.

You can also purchase t-shirts from the men’s department just to stock up on basic, fallback pieces for your wardrobe! As men’s clothing generally tends to be cheaper than women’s, this is a budget-friendly solution for outfit essentials. “The fit also gets points for coziness because you cut out trying to find 'fitted' shirts that actually fit your shape,” says Emily-Rose Grieve, a third-year student at the University of Warwick.

2. Flannels and button-downs

If you’re a college student, you have likely discovered the perfection that are flannel shirts. They’re incredibly comfortable and long lasting, and they’re wearable during all seasons with tons of different outfit types! Flannels can be styled with dresses, over tank tops and be an accessory. You can also pull a Justin Bieber and wear two at once, because why not?Flannels make the perfect complement to an outfit that’s otherwise really feminine. “I like to pair them with leggings, booties, and feminine jewelry, or if I'm wearing a simple t-shirt dress, I'll wrap the flannel around my waist to give it some flair,” says Sarah Madaus, a sophomore at Temple University. “They're always worn in and super comfy, and they aren't fitted like women's flannels.”

The baggy look is a huge plus. Not only does it make flannels more comfortable, it also means that layering won’t suffocate you! “I actually use only men's flannels in the fall because women's flannels usually are super tiny and don't provide a lot of warmth and I personally don't think they're as versatile,” says Lee Martin, a senior at Christopher Newport University.

Men’s button-downs offer the same multi-purpose use as flannels, but are a little on the dressier side. “I think a great way to incorporate clothing is with their button-downs. I know that this can often be sexualized, but they are more versatile than just a shirt to wear after a one-night-stand,” says Juli Cehula, a junior at St. Vincent College.

Button-downs work well tucked into skirts and pants, making them a perfect outfit option for work or an internship. However, they’re also really cute and boho-chic when untucked or partially tucked into a pair of distressed denim shorts or jeans! “Another one of my favourite looks is a button-down shirt tucked into high-waisted jeans,” says Emily-Rose. Pairing a button-down that’s on the looser side can also counter the tightness of your favorite jeans, creating a perfect balance in your look!

3. Sweaters

When they’re oversized, sweaters are another option that work really well in dress form! Men’s sweaters have a different fit than women’s do, so they’re great to wear over a collared shirt or dress, or as a kind of throw-on piece over shorts and a tank top in the summer. Who doesn’t love the off-the-shoulder look of a sweater that’s a little big on you?

Broken in sweaters are even better. Lift a few from a friend, brother or your dad—they probably won’t even notice! “I have stolen most of my father's sweaters from his college days - there are big on me but so, so warm and very durable,” says Meena Nayagam, a third-year medical student at the University of St. Andrews.

Big sweaters make choosing an outfit really easy, because they’re a statement piece of their own. Plus, any accessories or accents would get totally swallowed up! “Because they are quite large, I usually pair them with some tight jeans or a pair of black leggings,” Meena adds.

4. Jackets and outerwear

We don’t know when it happened, but boys’ coats have gotten really cute. Plus, it’s always nice to be able to breathe under all of your cold-weather layers! With men’s outerwear, you don’t have to worry about the constricting “feminine fit!”

Men’s coats also open up the possibility of blazers, bombers and varsity jackets. These more masculine pieces are always fun to pair with a dress or something lacy or frilly. Contrasting these two styles will give you a very enviable aesthetic. “Men’s bomber jackets > ladies," says Brianne. "You can find cute and cheap men’s jackets in sale sections.”

Give the men's sections of stores you already like a try. These items will likely go with the clothes you already have from those stores, and the odds of you liking the styles are higher! Our readers suggested Target, H&M, Abercrombie and the closets of their most stylish male friends and family members.

5. Tailor men’s clothing for your size or shape, or embrace the men’s look

Of course, you can take any men’s item you like and modify it to your liking (or leave it the way it is). Jeans or pants can become shorts, shirts can become tank tops and why not make ties into bracelets or chokers (or the classic headband or bow)? The possibilities are endless!

If you want to shop in the men’s section just for the more boxy fit than you’ll get in women’s stores, that works too. “Anything from an oversized men's crewneck can work for women. You can wear it with a form fitting skirt or skinny jeans,” says Nathalie Pena, a junior at SUNY Oswego. “As long as you have a balance with oversize and tight pairs of clothing, the look can work.”

Making clothes your own is what makes fashion fun. It’s an opportunity to get creative and express your personality through what you wear. “I shop in the men's t-shirt section of thrift stores and places like Plato's closet. I always find the coolest t-shirts and then from there tailor them to my style,” says Maddie H., a senior at the University of Cincinnati. “Whether it involves cut outs at the neck or a simple knot at the bottom. Men's t-shirts add a cool vibe to any look in my opinion and I love to rock it.”

You don’t have to go all out into menswear if you don’t want to. In fact, sometimes just adding one masculine piece really ties an outfit together. “When I started wearing more men's clothes I found it helpful to choose one men's item to wear with an outfit of women's items,” says Lena Serkin Mazel a junior at Kenyon College.
Ultimately, the designation of certain clothing as meant for men and certain clothing as meant for women is totally arbitrary. Society doesn’t want us to realize that though, so, until that changes, keep rocking the (so-called) menswear!

Adulting is hard. Whether it’s your first semester on your own or you’ve been doing it for a while, keeping up with all the responsibilities that come with growing up is always difficult. Here are some simple things that you’re always proud of yourself for doing—and rightfully so, because being an adult sometimes sucks.

1. Waking up on time for your 8:30 am class.

Because showering before sunset is a challenge.

2. Doing laundry before you run out of clean underwear.

Because you prioritized your time.

3. Packing your own lunch instead of buying something.

Because only millionaires can afford Starbucks once a day.

4. Keeping your living space tidy-ish.

Because putting dirty dishes in the sink right away is a major accomplishment.

5. Actually using your planner instead of ignoring it.

Because color-coding can be hard work.

6. Making your bed in the morning.

Because you always feel better when your bed is neatly made up.

7. Celebrating your accomplishments.

Because you should treat yourself when you deserve it.

8. Only eating out a few times per week.

Because it can be hard resisting Chipotle.

9. Cooking meals at home instead of ordering in.

Because you’re well on your way to becoming the next Rachel Ray.

10. Hanging out with friends instead of watching Netflix alone.

Because sometimes it takes effort to socialize.

11. Studying for an hour without procrastinating.

Because reading over 150 pages is boring af.

12. Walking instead of using an Uber.

Because technology makes it so simple to request a personal chauffer on your phone.

13. Going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Because it’s way too easy to watch one more episode of Friends.

14. Calling your family at least once a week.

Because talking to your parents can sometimes feel like an investigation.

15. Decluttering your work space.

Because a tidy desk is a tidy mind.

16. Wearing something other than sweatpants and hoodies.

Because being a fashionista is a full-time job.

17. Taking your makeup off before bed.

Because your skin deserves to be makeup-free once in a while.

18. Asking a question during class.

Because it’s intimidating to make a good impression on your professor.

19. Taking a shower instead of using dry shampoo.

Because nothing beats the power of some Bath & Body Works body wash and a loofah.

20. Surviving another day.

Because sometimes it can be tiring to just exist.

Being an adult (or even an almost adult) requires work, so cut yourself some slack every now and then. Celebrate and be proud of your accomplishments, even if they’re as easy as cooking dinner instead of going out or making it to class on time. You should always be proud of what you achieve, regardless of how trivial it may seem.

Women Protesters Tell Trump to Keep His Hands to Himself

Crowds of women dressed in black gathered outside Trump campaign headquarters Tuesday to protest the candidate, asking for his party to formally repudiate their own presidential candidate. The protests started last week in New York, and have since expanded to various cities around the country. The protesters chanted"Donald Trump thinks he runs this town, pussy came to shut it down!" while outside Trump Tower, Jezebel reports. With several protests taking place in as many as 15 cities, these women also took to Twitter with the hashtags #GOPHandsOffMe and #TrumpvsAllofUS.

Organizer Jodeen Olguin-Tayler has said the protests aren't just about Trump—they're also meant to target the GOP's treatment of women in general. In an interview with ColorLines, she said "... I’m appalled not only by the GOP's 50+ years of misogyny and racism, but also that they continue to support this sexual predator for president." She pledged that the first protest wouldn't be their last, and with Tuesday's protest, it seems they've stuck to their promise.

Trump has been under fire for his sexual conduct since the release of a 2005 hot mic video in which he discusses kissing and grabbing women "by the pussy" without their consent. Since then at least nine women, from random airplane seatmates to Apprentice contenstants, have accused him of inappropriate touching and downright sexual assault. He has denied all allegations against him and has said the language in the 2005 video was "locker room talk." Melania, his wife, has said he was egged on during the conversation, adding that Donald Trump is easily influenced—Not the best argument when you're trying to defend a potential POTUS, but anyway.

Trump supporters are getting heavy criticism for refusing to back down from a candidate who's allegedly a sexual predator, and several Republican leaders have rescinded their support. Others are trying to separate themselves but have not formally withdrawn from the candidate. This move has drawn criticism from both sides, with Trump himself saying he doesn't think his own party wants him to win and suggesting the "elite" rigged the election.

With just three weeks left until election day, it's highly unlikely the party will disavow their candidate. But nothing wrong with a little wishful thinking.
