5 New Ways to Style Riding Boots for Fall

$

0

As soon as there’s a nip in the air, you know it’s officially boot season. For many of us, that also means riding boots all day, every day. Whether you want to revisit your well-loved standbys or invest in a new shiny pair, there are an infinite number of ways to style riding boots so that your look always stays fresh. So now is your chance to start the season off right and up your boot game with one of these fall-tastic looks.

1. Heavy layers

Prep it up

Make this cozy fall look a key part of your wardrobe this season! It’s all about layering; throw a flannel shirt over a pullover or layer a button-down under a cardigan. Complete the look with riding boots like these ones from Ralph Lauren, which add that final polished vibe with sleek lines and two-tone color.

2. Warm & work-ready

Work ready

When the weather turns chilly again, getting dressed for your job or internship can seem like an exercise in frustration—the pencil skirt and heels look professional, but your legs are frozen. Fortunately, boots can be made appropriate for the workplace too. Slim-cut slacks, a tasteful blouse and classic blazer make for a smart, go-to outfit. Choose a pair of boots without any flashy embellishments or hardware, and stick with a neutral leather pant to keep the look elegant.

3. Bundled in bohemian

BOHO

Your favorite breezy, laidback tops and dresses don’t have to be limited to summer. A long tunic looks great over tights and tall boots, and a brown boot with a chunky heel will create the perfect contrast to the soft, feminine fabrics. Fun boot socks and a floppy hat add a bit of whimsy while keeping you toasty.

4. Downtown meets uptown

Modern

This look is all about the latest trends and a chic, urban aesthetic. Sleek leather pants contrast perfectly with suede over-the-knee boots—a modern take on the classic riding style. You may also want to try your hand a cape coat, an effortless but elegant statement piece that will become a staple in your closet. Finish it off with a bucket bag, and you’re guaranteed to look like a fashionista straight off the Paris runways.

5. Whimsically refined

sexy

Dressing up doesn’t have to mean bearing all only to be left shivering in your stillettos. Boots can just as easily turn fancy; just look for ones with a slight heel or wedge, and pair them with a dress or skirt that hits above the knee for optimum proportions. A fun, furry coat adds a touch of Hollywood glam and much-appreciated warmth for those bare arms. Finish with an adorable bag for an evening outfit that’s anything but boring.

Whether you can't wait to break out your riding boots every year, or you're new to this stylish staple, there are so many ways to wear them that you'll never have a boring outfit this season. So collegiettes, how are you going to style your boots this fall?

The 4 Best Halloween Costume Sites

Between studying for that tricky sociology exam and running for student government, collegiettes have almost no free time to shop for Halloween costumes. Don’t worry—we understand that. That’s why we’ve provided a list of the best Halloween costume sites for you to peruse to get inspired for your killer costume (or costumes!) this year.

1. Buy Costumes

This site can act as your retail Party City at home, but cheaper. It is the largest costume shop on the Internet with literally more than 10,000 costumes for you to choose from. We’re special fans of the animal suits and the superheroes. Not only are its costume prices reasonable at 10-30 percent off of retail value, but its shipping prices are also just as sensible. If you spend $75—which you and your roommates could easily do—you get free shipping. Before placing an order, make sure to check up on store specials to save some money!

2. Costume SuperCenter

CostumeSuperCenter.com prides itself for its variety of costume selection at low prices. Most costumes you find here will be marked down at least 20 percent from retail prices with no catch or special code needed. We also love their same-day shipping policy: As long as you submit your order by 3 p.m., you are guaranteed shipping on the same day! Check out their cute selection of 1920’s-inspired outfits. Party at Gatsby’s, anyone?

3. Frank Bee Costume Center

If you’re in New York, pop your head into Frank Bee Costume Center’s store. If you’re not in New York, its website provides a wide variety with thousands of costumes to choose from. This site received an A for shipping because of its $8 UPS flat rate, no matter how big or how small your order is. We’re certainly feelin’ this Lady Gaga costume!

4. Costume Kingdom

Costume Kingdom made our top four because of its unique costumes. It offers “many costumes not found elsewhere,” said Top 10 Costumes Sites. Most of its products are fairly priced, while others are at even more discounted prices. Still, all costumes are marked down from their original retail prices. That’s always good news for collegiettes! We’re also loving their Disney costumes. What more could you want?

Apparently, Blair Waldorf & Chuck Bass Were Never Supposed To Be Together

It's been nearly a decade since Gossip Girl first aired in 2007, and our obsession is still stronger than ever. And of all the things we love about the show, there's nothing we love more than the epic romance between Chuck and Blair.

So, take a moment to remember them as they are, because what we're about to tell you will completely upset everything you know to be true.

In an interview with Vulture, the genius minds behind the show, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, revealed that Chair wasn't something that was every supposed to happen. Okay, what?!

"None of that was expected. Chuck came into the show as the villain," they said. "But it’s one of those great, fun things about making a television series — it’s an evolving, living, breathing thing, and things can easily change on a whim."

Turns out, it was the real-life chemistry between Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester that made it clear that a Chuck/Blair love just had to happen.

"You get an actor like Ed Westwick and see the chemistry he had with Leighton Meester, and their scenes just crackled," they explained. Swoon. The creators added, "They came into the show as very different kinds of roles, but the chemistry between them took over."

In that case, bless Ed and Leighton for making Chair a reality. We do have some good news, though. As for how Chuck and Blair are doing now?

"They’re definitely happy, I would say." *praise hands emoji*

This article has been syndicated to Her Campus from Slashed Beauty by Miranda Mendoza, a Her Campus Blogger Network member. Read the full post here.

It’s pretty impossible to avoid anything Halloween this time of year. We’re just weeks away from big day, so if you haven't already started, now is the time to get your costume together.

I’ll be honest: I absolutely hate gore. It doesn't matter if I know it's fake; I hate looking at it. I'm also not a fan of buying expensive or elaborate costumes I'll only wear once. So, every year, I try to make my costume all about my makeup.

This ventriloquist doll Halloween look is definitely all about the makeup. You could really pair it with any dress you have, or give it a more creepy mood by cutting one up from the thrift store to make it look ratty.

Watch the video on Slashed Beauty for the full tutorial.

10 Exercise Routines You Can Do In 10 Minutes or Less

$

0

Working out is hard, especially with a packed schedule and virtually no free time. While running around from classes to work, extracurriculars and more should count as working out, it doesn’t. Fitting in even a quick gym session isn’t always possible, and it’s hard enough to wake up early for classes. Don’t worry, though – we’ve found the perfect workouts to squeeze in any time! All of these can be done from your apartment or dorm room, involve little to no equipment and max out at ten minutes. No more excuses!

1. Victoria's Secret Model Workout

Ten minutes to look like a Victoria’s Secret Model? We can definitely make time for that. This routine is fast and easy and works out your entire body. Plus you don’t need any equipment and can do it in small spaces. The workout consists of eight easy exercises that Heidi Klum's personal trainer walks you through. She gives you a step-by-step guide on how to do each move, as well as counts down your reps, so there's no guessing involved. Grab your roommate and try it out!

2. 10 Minute HIIT Workout

HIIT (a.k.a high-intensity interval training) workouts are ideal for anyone with a busy a schedule because they burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time. Who doesn’t want that? Like the name suggests, this workout is pretty intense, so it's probably not for beginners. It also involves a lot of jumping around, so if you have any injuries or bad knees, it's probably best to avoid this one. But if you're up for a challenge, there's no equipment necessary for this one, so there’s nothing stopping you from hitting play and sweating it up!

3. Butt Lift Challenge

In just ten minutes, your butt is going to look amazing in all of your jeans! We’re big fans of Cassey from Blogilates because all of her workouts are designed with the busy girl in mind. There are six easy moves that anyone of just about any fitness level can do. Cassey also gives you tips on how to make each more easier or more difficult depending on how much you want to challenge yourself. Plus you don’t need any equipment and do all of the moves on the floor of a dorm room!

4. Sexy Arms Workout

Another fitness gem from Blogilates is this arm workout! If you’ve got the time, combine it with the butt lift challenge or another body part that’s giving you trouble. All you need is a yoga mat or towel, rug or blanket (if you need to get creative). Like most of Blogilates's videos, this one consists only just a few moves and a lot of repetition. Again, Cassey gives you tips on how to make each move easier or more challenging depending on your fitness level.

5. "Call Me Maybe" Squat Challenge

We all love to hate (or hate to love?) this song by Carly Rae Jepsen. However, it turns out that it’s a great tune to squat to. Your legs will be screaming by the end, and the song will totally be stuck in your head, but it’s only five minutes. You can do it!

6. Movie Night Total Body Workout

If you love to multitask, this one is for you. Grab a friend, bowl of (low-cal!) popcorn and give this quick workout a try before your movie starts. This is also an awesome routine to do during commercial breaks of your favorite show. (Just when you thought episodes of Scandal couldn’t get anymore intense!) The workout consists of a sequence of pilates-inspired moves that target your whole body. All of the moves are easy for beginners yet challenging enough that you'll still feel it in the morning.

7. Sleek and Slender Abs Routine

If anyone knows how to get fit fast, it’s definitely the Tone It Up girls! Karena and Katrina show you how to get the abs of a beach goddess in just under seven minutes. Even if you don’t have access to an Instagram-worthy California beach like they do, give their workouts a shot. The moves are all relatively easy, but some do require a pair of weights. No weights? No problem! Grab something around your room of equal weight, like a pair of soup cans or textbooks!

8. 10 Minute Cardio Dance Routine

When it comes to this video, you can definitely put us down for cardio. This routine works up a sweat fast! Thankfully you don’t have to log hours on the elliptical machine to get in a good cardio workout anymore. Plus, this routine is full of fun dance moves, so you won’t even notice you’re working out. All of the moves are pretty easy, but don't feel bad if you can't quite get the hang of it right away. The point is to always keep moving, so even if you're not nailing every move perfectly, just getting your heart rate up is what matters the most.

9. Slim Legs Workout

We’re moving away from shorts season, but that doesn’t mean you can skip leg day. If squatting isn’t really your style, try this quick Pilates routine. It’s only three minutes, so there are really no excuses with this one. You can even make it a circuit, and do it three times to get closer to your ten minutes. This workout is extra perfect because it consists of only one move! Cassey shows you how to do it and does it with you the whole time, so there's no guessing if you're doing it right or not.

10. Bikini Body Workout

We’re always down for a full body workout that’s only eight minutes long. Even if you’re not going to be wearing a bikini anytime soon, it’s still a quick and easy routine that will tone you up from head to toe. The workout involves about five moves that designed to tone multiple areas of your body at once. The moves aren't hard, but you'll definitely be sore in the morning. No equipment is required, so just press play!

See, that wasn’t so bad, was it? The truth is, we always have time for a quick workout. You just have to learn how to prioritize!. Save a few of these under a YouTube playlist, and your body will thank you later.

How She Got There: Kathlene Denhard, Founder of Kans for Kids

$
0
0

Name: Kathlene Denhard
Age: 24
Job Title: Founder of Kans for Kids and On-Air Personality at Alpha Media Louisville
College Name: University of Indianapolis
Website: feedingkentuckiana.org
Twitter Handle: @KDonDJX
Instagram Handle: @KDonDJX

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Kathlene Denhard: But really…is there such thing as a typical day, haha! A normal Kans for Kids day is never typical. We function on a need basis, so whatever a family needs, we provide. We could be feeding a family for an extended period of time, or we could be working with a parent to help them find a job. It just depends on the day! But typical is boring! We welcome “different.”

What is the best part of your job?

KD: The best part about working with Kans for Kids is seeing a family get back on their feet when they felt hopeless. In 2013, we were working with a school in Indianapolis that was known as the school with the highest population of attendees that fell under the “below poverty” category for the city. We were working with 75 families to make sure they had enough food to last them their entire Christmas break—stocked a food pantry, brought in clothing for the parents to “shop” for (everything is free to them) and toys for the parents to have something to give to their kids on Christmas morning. I was introduced to a woman who had recently gone through a divorce, lost her home in a fire and lost her job. She had nothing left. Kans for Kids had enough money left over that we were able to replace her children’s clothing, give her new clothes for interviews, Visa gifts cards for groceries and took over a few of her bills to alleviate some of the stress she was feeling. A few months later, I got a phone call from her. She had found a job, her kids were back in school and she had just bought a home. To this day, I cry every time I think about her family.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

KD: That’s a tough one. I think the biggest mistake I made along the way was waiting so long to get my 501(c)(3). I was so young when I started Kans for Kids. I didn’t really think it was going to blow up to what it is today. Once I realized we were missing out on grant opportunities, it was a no-brainer. The most important thing I’ve learned from this is to have faith. Just because people doubt you doesn’t mean it should stop you. If you’re passionate about it, jump in head first. The worst thing that could happen is you fall on your face. All you have to do is brush yourself off and try again.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

KD: The most surreal moment by far actually happened a few days ago. Kans for Kids was featured in a local magazine, Nfocus Louisville, for their “new faces of philanthropy” edition. A local, new-to-Louisville non-profit happened to see the article and decided to reach out. They have offered to donate several hundred meals to help get us through this year. I may or may not have cried on the phone with a complete stranger because I simply could not form words to thank him. For the longest time, I had felt like I hadn’t made much of an impact on the community we had been involved with for several years until I realized that all the small things that we have done over the last six years have kind of all rolled into a pretty big thing. That was an amazing moment.

What inspired you to found Kans for Kids?

KD: When I was a sophomore in college (19 years old), I was a site director for an after-school program with the YMCA at an elementary school in Indianapolis. This particular school originally had a basket program that fed the families in need during all of their extended breaks. When I started working at this school, the grant for the basket program had ceased to exist.

The day this happened, one of my students came into the classroom with broken sandals on, a tank top, pants that she had outgrown and a light jacket. It was the middle of winter, and in Indy, winters are brutal. They’re bitterly cold and always icy. She came running to me with tears in her eyes. When I asked her what was wrong, she said she was so hungry that it was making her stomach hurt. I asked if she had eaten her lunch or any of her snacks that day. She just looked down, almost as if she was ashamed of herself, and said, “I was saving it for home. Mommy doesn’t come home anymore and daddy never cooks.”

I was heartbroken. I immediately grabbed all the spare snacks we had for the day and told her to put them in her backpack. I asked where her coat was; she said she didn’t have one because her dad didn’t have enough money to get her one. I ran into the closet and gave her my brand new North Face that I had just received for my birthday. It was a little big, but she’d grow into it. When her father came to pick her up, I pulled him aside and asked him to confirm everything that she had told me. My heart sank as soon as he said they hadn’t had a meal in several days. She had been bringing her lunch home for almost a week to share with him. She did this all on her own.

At that point, I knew I had two options. I could either turn a blind eye to this problem, or I could face it head on. I called my parents who lived in Louisville, KY (where I’m from) and asked them if there was a way to get 40 hams to me within a week. That year I was supposed to spend a semester abroad in Ireland. My parents were going to fund all of it. They gave me a choice. They would either pay to send me to Ireland, or they would give me that money to start Kans for Kids. What should have been an incredibly difficult decision was probably the easiest one I’ve ever made.

In our first year, we fed 40 families for two weeks, gave each family a Christmas meal complete with all the sides you typically think of when you think Christmas, created a fully stocked food pantry, established a career program for parents to get free career counseling. We got each of them connected with—free to them—financial advisors and set them up with free GED classes. Fast forward to our sixth year, we’ve fed over 5,000 families, created food pantries that are stocked year-round and have established mentoring programs for both parents and students.

What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?

KD: My favorite quote that has actually become our motto for volunteering is: “You’ve never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” These words have gotten me through so many tough times. I can’t even put into words how much this quote means to me.

What advice would you offer to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

KD: Don’t ever give up. Non-profits are tough to create and keep going. But with the right attitude and the right support system, you’ll never fail. Sometimes it can feel like you’re not accomplishing anything at all. But when you look back and see all the little things that you’ve done along the way, those little things turn into big things.

Also, don’t let people discourage you. There will ALWAYS be someone telling you that you can’t or that it’s just not possible. When that happens, put on those big girl boots and show them that you can and that you did. You’ve got this! Just close your eyes, take a deep breath, smile and do it.

This Guy Used the Second Presidential Debate to Raise Money for Student Loans Over Venmo

$

Payment-sharing app Venmo has become a popular option for splitting a restaurant bill between friends, paying rent, or...asking for help from the public with student loan debt? That's exactly what one college student decided to do when cameras flooded his campus for the second presidential debate.

Washington University at St. Louis student Albert Wu took full advantage of all the eyes on his school last Sunday—He made a sign that said, "Student debt sucks", along with his Venmo username, and stood behind the CNN anchors while they were on air.

You may laugh, but Wu actually made bank off of this stunt. He told Jezebel that he's actually received over $400 so far and plans to put the money in an emergency fund. Don't worry, he's underage and won't be using it for alcohol!

According to Teen Vogue, Wu has started a trend. After Wu's stunt Sunday, a freshman student in Canada made a poster that read, "Kanye 4 Prez" along with his Venmo username for people to donate if they agree. A group of Theta Chi brothers also made a sign to ask for money for their dues.

Wu also told Jezebel that he's touched by the money he's received because it has come from people on both sides of aisle. “It’s certainly something that I hope comes up in the debate, because student debt is so relevant, especially for the youth who have such an impact on the vote,” he said. “I think both sides of a political nation can relate to that. We’re Americans who are dealing with this.”

We can all agree that student debt is ~the worst~, and we'd like to get rid of it any way we can—But hopefully our next president will make some changes so we don't have to resort to asking strangers for money on national TV.

Good news, everyone––New research says that millennials are not lazier and more entitled than baby boomers. In fact, we're a lot like them. Print this post out now and take it right to your parents.

According to Science of Us, the Journal of Business and Pyschology just published an analysis by Wayne State University and Ford Motor Company researcher Keith L. Zabel of 77 studies on age and work ethic. The verdict? There is no real generational difference between the work ethic of baby boomers and millennials.

The researchers were measuring Protestant work ethic, or PWE, which is "an ethic that stresses the virtue of hard work, thrift, and self-discipline." While the term may seem outdated, it's still very present in American life—You've probably been told since childhood that if you work hard enough you'll get what you want, and that's why you're taking five classes and trying to rack up leadership roles in as many different campus organizations as possible. That's the PWE at work. Religion may not have much to do with it anymore, but millennials still put a lot of value in hard work.

So, what are the takeaways of this study? Well, first of all, that people should stop bashing millennials for being losers. Second of all, that workplaces don't need to be constantly thinking about how to change up the workplace to appeal to our generation. We want the same things as everyone else—meaningful work at a great company where we can learn and grow.

Trump Doesn't Have Nice Things to Say About the Women Who Have Accused Him of Sexual Assault

Ten days ago, the world learned about a 2005 video in which Trump made comments to then Access Hollywood co-host Billy Bush about how he treats women. In the video, obtained by The Washington PostTrump said he would kiss women and "grab them by the pussy" without asking. "When you're a star, they let you do it," he said. "You can do anything."

Since the release of the tape, Trump has apologized for his comments but claimed that he's never actually sexually assaulted any woman. But at least nine women beg to differ, according to CNN, saying that Trump sexually assaulted them.

Jessica Leeds and Rachel Crooks both told their stories about Trump to The New York Times, Leeds saying that Trump touched her inappropriately on a plane, and Crooks saying he kissed her without consent. Trump told the Times reporter that she was "a disgusting human being" for asking about the allegations.

According to Rolling Stone, Trump also spoke disgustedly about former People magazine journalist Natasha Stoynoff, who wrote about Trump assaulting her while she was at Mar-a-Lago to interview him and Melania.  "Look at her, look at her words, and tell me what you think," he said in a speech last Thursday. "I don't think so."

TIME reports that in another speech in North Carolina Friday, Trump made more disdainful, insulting comments about his accusers. He called one a "horrible woman," and then told his followers to look up another accuser on Facebook. He said Leeds, the woman who alleges Trump attacked her on a plane, "would not be my first choice."

People are just starting to realize that women are treated absolutely horribly when they report sexual assault—and Trump is a prime example. It's hard to believe that he has even a modicum of respect for women when he responds to sexual assault allegations by saying the women accusing him are too ugly to merit being assaulted. Remember when Michelle Obama said, "When they go low, we go high"? Trump has a very different approach: "When you get hit, you hit back," he said last Friday. It's time to seriously consider which attitude we want in the White House.

The U.S. High School Graduation Rate Has Hit an All-Time High

In the contentious climate of this election cycle, it can sometimes feel like all political news must be bad news. And with the presidential race getting so much news coverage, it can be easy to forget that the current president is still in office and working hard to try to improve Americans’ lives.

President Obama announced on Monday that high school graduation rates have increased to an all-time high of 83.2 percent. When President Obama took office in 2009, the high school graduation rate was 75.5 percent.

Obama made this announcement at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington D.C. His speech emphasized the work that has been done to help students work to get their diplomas, the opportunities available to students, and the work there still is to do.

A table shared by the White House Press Office shows that the graduation rate has increased for all minority groups, including racial and ethnic minorities, as well as low-income students, students with disabilities, and students who are learning English is a second language. Every group has seen their graduation rate increase each year since President Obama took office. The largest increase since 2010 is 8.1 percent by English learners.

The White House has also compiled a list of high school graduation rates by state. The highest graduation rate, and the only one to enter the ninety percent range, is Iowa, with 90.8 percent.

The Obama Administration credits several initiatives with helping to increase the graduation rate, including investing in preschool programs, increasing internet access in schools, encouraging great teachers and revamping financial aid programs to help students get to college.

These programs were introduced throughout Obama’s presidency and invested billions of dollars in education over eight years. The initiatives make it possible to invest in student success from the time children start preschool to the day they graduate college. As college students now, we're rightfully concerned about financial support for going to college and paying off student debt, but all of these programs help to make our communities better and allow students of all ages to reach their full potential.

Hundreds of People Were So Pissed Amy Schumer Dissed Trump, They Walked Out

Any issue is usually up for grabs in comedy, but audience members at Amy Schumer's Tampa show weren't having it when Schumer began criticizing Donald Trump. The Tampa Bay Times reports that about 200 people left the Amalie Arena on Oct. 16 when Schumer discussed politics too much for their liking. A small portion of the audience booed Schumer when she brought up topics like gun control and called Trump an "orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster."

"The show became political," audience member Ryan Atwood said to the Times. "I definitely didn't come to hear this."

So far, the public seems to have mixed feelings about the incident.

Seventeen has declared today—Monday, October 17, 2016—the first ever National Body Confidence Day! It's important to note that the magazine's initiative is not just a one-day thing; it's a movement. It's time to celebrate how amazing we all are—bodies, minds and spirits included.

The mag has teamed up with Instagram to start this movement, which includes a hashtag and a safe space community on the social media platform. Seventeen wants to hear from you, and so do the millions of girls around the world who are bound to get involved with this initiative.

Seventeen launched the program along with the release of their November issue, which features Ariel Winter. Winter, along with other fabulous young women, were among the first to share their body confidence stories with the mag.

Seventeen and Instagram want to hear from you! Celebrate yourself and others because we're all so special. Post about your body confidence with the hashtag #PerfectlyMe for Seventeen and Instagram to see!

Growing up, Jody Heakes (@jdoday) was frequently bullied about her weight. “I remember (now cringingly), in middle school dumbing myself down, pretending not to know things, because I’d decided that I would much rather be labeled as ‘the stupid girl’ than ‘the fat girl,’” says the 21-year-old. “Today, I pride myself on being a thoughtful and intelligent woman.” Jody was interested in photography, but it wasn’t until she graduated from high school that her mother encouraged her to model. “I was always behind the camera, never in front,” Jody says. “Switching roles and seeing photos of myself made me realize that I wasn’t as unattractive as I felt.” Her participation in the body-positive movement online feels like an extension of her studies at the University of Toronto — she’s a fourth-year student in history and equity studies. “I strongly believe that representation matters, and not only representation of different body types, but different ethnicities, ages and abilities,” Jody says. “Confidence comes with time. It has taken me over five years to reach the level of acceptance with myself that I have now. I can only imagine how much better I’ll feel five years from now.” Who or what inspires you to feel #PerfectlyMe? This month, we’ve teamed up with @seventeen to celebrate people who are redefining body standards and inspiring confidence on Instagram. Use the hashtag to share your story. Photo by @jdoday

“My version of #PerfectlyMe is letting go of the never-ending fight to be someone else. #PerfectlyMe invites ME back into the equation, not as a form of settling for myself, but as an act of welcoming that self home, accepting her singularities, celebrating her deviance.” —Rebekah Taussig (@sitting_pretty), a writer, teacher and PhD candidate who lives in Kansas City, Missouri. “Growing up with a disability, I developed a lot of coping mechanisms early in life — detaching from my body, always smiling no matter what I was experiencing on the inside, never admitting sadness or shame. Even when I received the positive affirmation I was seeking, it was never enough to make me feel full. With time — so much time — I’ve been working to shift that burden of acceptance to myself. Accepting myself frees me up to actually experience life — to use this instrument I’m living in. Why do we treat our bodies as objects to beat into submission, to criticize into doing better, to overcome and rise above? I want to work with my body. I think we’ll get further and fuller that way, but it’s slow. I’m learning.” Who or what inspires you to feel #PerfectlyMe? Use the hashtag to share your story. Photo by @sitting_pretty

ACCIO, MAKEUP. Thanks to Storybook Cosmetics, our makeup is now more ~magical~ than ever. Last week, the cosmetics company—founded by identical triplets Erin, Mandy and Missy Maynard from Omaha, Nebraska—unveiled their new Wizard Wands makeup brushes on Instagram. For just $55, Harry Potter fans can live out their dreams, day after day. Obviously the announcement went viral.

The magical brushes are cruelty free and made from synthetic fibers. They will officially be released for shipping in around six weeks, but unfortunately, if you haven't pre-ordered them yet, you'll be waiting awhile. It took only two days for Storybook Cosmetics completely sell out of the brushes.

If the wizard wand brushes weren't exciting enough, the brand is also planning on making an eyeshadow palette for the Harry Potter fandom (and maybe even one for Regina George and Gretchen Wieners) called The Sorting Palette. We're so excited.

Finalizing the artwork! The countdown begins.

According to their website, the Maynard triplets are Harry Potter fans through and through. "We have been fangirls all of our lives, so it’s in our blood," the site reads. "Storybook Cosmetics is a passion project we have been working on for years. As fans of all things sparkly, magical and mystical it was a logical next step to crossover our fandom businesses into cosmetics!"

We're Storybook Cosmetics fangirls now.

Nick Viall Slept With One of His 'Bachelor' Contestants Before the Show Started

This season's Bachelor, Nick Viall, 36, did things a little out of order.

According to an Us Weekly report, Viall slept with one of the contestants on the show long before they started taping for the upcoming season. An unnamed "inside source" told the magazine, “During the first day of taping, all of the girls came out, and he actually had slept with one of them at a wedding and never called her again.”

Aaaaawwwkward. While we're sure this'll make good drama for television (it's almost as if Bachelor producers did this on purpose?!?!?!), we're hoping karma comes back to bite Viall in the ass. Not saying we don't want him to find love or anything...

While Viall, a former Bachelorette villain, *sort of* managed to redeem himself on this summer's season of Bachelor In Paradise, it turns out he's no less slimy than he was before. Apparently, he'd told producers he didn't want anybody on the show whom he'd dated, hooked up with or known prior as he felt it would be "a waste of a person being there." Ironic, seeing as he wormed his way onto Kaitlyn Bristowe's season as an aquaintance.

Gross.

Leslie Jones Flirting With a Hot Teacher on Twitter Gives Us Life

Nobody has stronger confidence than our favorite Saturday Night Live comedian, Leslie Jones. Jones has stayed calm and cool no matter what obstacle is thrown at her, and can always crack a joke about her situation. Although Twitter has brought her a lot of unfortunate circumstances, the tables have turned and a few mere tweets might've led Jones to true love.

Nicholas Ferroni, a New Jersey teacher who People even named the "Sexiest Teacher Alive," reached out to Jones on Twitter about a recent SNL sketch in which she and episode host Lin-Manuel Miranda played teachers. Jones's character commented that the classroom smelled like Axe body spray, a remark that Ferroni was all too familiar with.

Jones, known for never backing down, responded by asking Ferroni if he was single. When it turned out he was, the two dove into a flirting session that we're quite jealous of.

Perrie Edwards Doesn't Have Good Things to Say About Her Ex, Zayn Malik

This past week, British girl group Little Mix released a new single, not-so-stealthily titled “Shout Out To My Ex.” It is a shout-out, after all! If you are or were at any point a megafan of One Direction, you likely know that boy band member Zayn Malik was formerly involved with one of the ladies of Little Mix, Perrie Edwards. These were the days before the Instagram reigning of Gigi Hadid et. al.—and yes, there was a time when Malik and Edwards were engaged to be married!
Their relationship ended rather messily after Malik’s departure from One Direction in May of 2015 and his subsequent breakup with Edwards via text message. In true pop star fashion, however, Edwards came right back at her ex with a tell-all book and a wonderfully catchy breakup single that we already can't get enough of. Little Mix performed the soon-to-be hit on the X Factor UK this past weekend, demonstrating their fierce, unapologetic showstopping skills.

Edwards opens up the song, singing, “This is a shout out to my ex / Heard he in love with some other chick … I hope she gettin’ better sex / Hope she ain’t fakin’ it like I did, babe.” Honestly, Taylor Swift should be taking notes. No holds barred, Edwards and her fellow bandmates are straight up exposing their former lovers’...inabilities to please and how their exes’ failings made them stronger. You go, girls.

Breakup songs are great. Breakup song wars? Yes, please. We’ll be waiting, speakers ready!
