Donald Trump Was Caught on Tape Saying Disgusting Things About Women

0
0

A three-minute video from 2005 obtained by The Washington Post contains audio of presidential candidate Donald Trump making lewd remarks about women during a conversation with Billy Bush, host of the show Access Hollywood, right before taping a television segment. It appears the audio was recorded because Trump was wearing a microphone that was on at the time.

In the conversation, Trump talks about trying and failing to “fuck” a married woman, and seeing her later with “big phony tits.” After Trump and Bush notice the actress who will be escorting them into the building, Trump talks about wanting to kiss her:

“I’ve gotta use some tic tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait,” he says. “And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything...Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Bush can be heard laughing and agreeing throughout.

This video comes as Trump has attempted to attack opponent Hillary Clinton on her treatment of the women who have accused her husband Bill of sexual misconduct. He’s also recently received backlash for his statements about the weight gain of 1996 Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado, whom he allegedly called “Miss Piggy.” During the vice-presidential debate on Tuesday, Democratic VP candidate Tim Kaine brought up Trump’s treatment of women several times.

In a statement to the Post about the video, Trump said, “This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course—not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.”

In the past, Trump has responded to accusations that he disrespects women with statements such as, “Nobody has more respect for women than Donald Trump.”

Former Utah State University Football Player Charged in 5 Sexual Assault Cases

Torrey Green, a former linebacker for Utah State University, was just charged in five sexual assault and rape cases from over a span of two years. Specifically, the court charged him with four counts of first degree felony rape, first degree felony aggrevated kidnapping and second degree felony forcible sexual abuse, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. In total, the Cache County Attorney's Office says they looked into nine different cases involving 22-year-old Green.

The former football player was arrested on Thursday in California. The charges against Green are the result of the victims coming forward after allegedly being attacked between November of 2013 to November of 2015. They were investigated by North Park Police and the Logan Police Department. While the sex abuse charge could place Green in prision for one to fifteen years, the other two charges of rape and kidnapping could result in a life sentence. Green will now be extradited to Utah, where his trials will be held.

Green spent time at Utah State University from 2011 through the 2016 spring semester, and in April signed a contract with NFL team the Atlanta Falcons. However, once the team found out about the accusations against him, he was waived from the team. Owner Arthur Blank told ESPN that Green was cut the morning after the team heard about the allegations, adding, "We don't want anybody connected to the organization who has those kinds of accusations around them."

In July of this year, Cache County prosecuters began to look at the cases against Green more closely. One court document, from November 2013, explained how Green raped a woman in his apartment after the two met on Tinder. After watching a movie together, Green tried to lift up the woman's shirt but she said no, but was not able to get away from Green. A second document states that in October 2014 Green assaulted another women while they were watching a movie together in his apartment, but after she said no and asked to leave multiple times he got angry and took her home.

In the three more recent 2015 cases, two women had similar stories of Green raping them in his bedroom, while one woman said she was raped in her own bedroom. All three were students of Utah State University at the time of the attacks. USU seems to have never fully investigated the attacks, and Green was never made to miss a football game during the 2015 season. Tim Vitale, spokesman for the school, said Thursday they are "waiting for more information" but "do look forward to these cases being brought to resolution." They have also started a "Consent Is" campaign, and are implementing other changes to improve the way the school responds to sexual assault allegations.

Concierge Involved in Kim Kardashian's Robbery Speaks Out

Kim Kardashian has had to endure a tremendous amount of pain and criticism since she was brutally bound, gagged and robbed in her Paris hotel. Adding to the bizarre nature of the situation, the 40-year-old concierge who claims to have been held at gunpoint and forced to lead robbers into Kardashian’s apartment has written an open letter to Kardashian in a French gossip magazine.

The letter, which was obtained by TMZ, attempts to tell the concierge’s side of the story but just ends up sounding strange and kind of creepy.

"Dear Kim: When you feel the cold steel of a gun at your neck, it is the moment when remaining calm can mean the difference of life or death, both our lives." he wrote. "I hope you are feeling better.”

So far, the Kardashians have maintained radio silence regarding the incident, and the details of what occurred still have not been fully confirmed. We can only hope that Kardashian is able to recover from the trauma of these events soon.

J.K. Rowling Made a Tiny Mistake in Her New Pottermore Story & Twitter Lost All Chill

It’s no secret that humans are not perfect creatures. Despite this knowledge, it was hard to imagine that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who was famously deliberate and careful when writing her beloved series, could ever make a mistake in her writing. However, even the queen of wizards has her slip-ups, just like us mere muggles.

Despite the Harry Potter series being over, Rowling continues to publish new stories about the Wizarding World on the Pottermore website. In her most recent story, she introduces fans to The Magical Congress of the United States of America, aka MACUSA.

The story, which takes place in the U.S., covers the process of how and why American wizards decided to govern themselves throughout U.S. history.

Unfortunately, it seems that Rowling may have made an error in her timeline, writing that her characters moved to Washington, D.C. in 1777, although Washington, D.C. didn’t exist until 1790.

Of course, Twitter didn’t remain silent about the issue and made sure to point out the mistake to Rowling herself, including the fact that MACUSA was named and created 100 years before the founding of the United States.

Despite these errors, Rowling remains one of our generation's most beloved and respected authors, so it’s safe to say these mistakes won’t stop anyone from getting their much-needed dose of the Wizarding World.

Solange Released a Documentary On Her Songwriting Process

Solange gave fans a glimpse into her life when she uploaded a documentary-style video depicting her songwriting process.

She includes bits and pieces of her songs "Don't Touch My Hair" and "Don't You Wait for Me" from her new album, A Seat at the Table, which took four years to createThe bio of the documentary says that it's "a look at the early days of Solange's songwriting, jam sessions, experimentation, collaboration, and the exploring of sounds and ideas for the album.
While some of the jam sessions featured did not make the album, they helped to create and identify the sonic tone, and the early lyrics and concepts Solange wrote for the project."

Throughout most of the video, Solange is her natural self; she's not wearing makeup, she's dancing with her son, swinging on a hammock, or jamming by candlelight. Her voice is melodic, pure, and flawless, and it's not even altered by computers. We love seeing this side of the celebs we love; it helps us remember that they are human too.

Gilmore Girls Action Figures Are Going to Become a Real Thing

We are about a month away from one of the most anticipated revivals ever! Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premieres on Netflix in November and this past Wednesday also marked the 16th anniversary of the show’s premiere, with 200 coffee shops nationwide transforming into Luke’s Diner, a staple from the beloved show.

Now a new way to celebrate the show is coming, and we don’t know if we’re ready for it. Funko, the company behind the pop culture figurines and action figures with the cute face and big head, just confirmed they are releasing Gilmore Girl-themed collectible figurines.

Using the hashtag #AskFunko, a fan wanted to know where the Lorelai and Rory pops were? Funko currently has a vast list of shows and movies they make figures for, so it’s a wonder why it’s taken this long for the company to make Stars Hollows’ most popular residents into tangible figurines for our work desks and college dorm rooms.

Imagine enjoying your 6th cup of coffee for the morning with a little Funko Rory just chillin’ next to your computer. This can’t come soon enough!

Lena Dunham Has Finally Responded to Criticism of Racism on 'Girls'

0
0

Lena Dunham’s HBO show Girls recently had its last day of shooting, and since its premiere there’s been ongoing criticism about the racial politics of the show, because it features four white women in a predominantly white world. Finally, Dunham has spoken about the allegations of racism that Girls has been receiving for the last six years.

“I think everyone’s criticisms of Girls were totally valid,” she said during an interview on The Breakfast Club. She had tried to “write from a place of accuracy and passion and understanding” which means that as a white woman herself, Dunham didn’t feel like she had the authority to tell the stories of racially-marginalized women. (True.) She went on to name other women like Issa Rae and Jenni Konner who are better equipped to “support female voices of color.”

While we totally think there could have been better diversity alone the way, Dunham did say she learned more about intersectional feminism and that “white feminists do not have a great history of carrying their black sisters along with them.” One things she’s sure on? She “never wants to see another poster that’s four white girls.” Same.

Tbh, we’re happy that Dunham has finally said something, but this highlights a much larger issue: that HBO and other entertainment companies need to be hiring writers and creators with diverse backgrounds, so that shows can tell stories of diverse characters. Change starts in the writing room, and that’s what we need to see more of.

1. Lady Godiva, 2001

Klum arrived at her 2001 party on horseback in a floor-length wig as the famously nude Lady Godiva.

What do you think Heidi Klum will dress up as this year?

Can Tampon Ingredients Be Harmful to Your Body?

    0
    0

Many collegiettes know that nature’s monthly gift is far from luxurious. We don’t exactly feel ready to slay when we’re curled up in a ball in the corner with a heating pad crying over Gossip Girl re-runs.

The last thing you should have to worry about when you’re dealing with killer cramps or a bad period headache is whether or not the products you’re using are harmful to your health. With scary articles going viral, such as the woman who decided to sue a tampon company, it’s hard not to be a little concerned. In order to get all of our facts straight, we did some research and spoke with a health professional to answer common questions collegiettes might have about tampons.

    What's in a tampon?

The FDA notes that tampons sold in the United States are made out of cotton, rayon or blends of both ingredients.

According to the FDA, rayon “is made from cellulose fibers derived from wood pulp,” and is bleached during the process. The method used to treat the wood pulp is completely safe and is chlorine-free.

Before this recent data was released, previous information noted that the wood pulp bleaching process was a possible breeding ground for a chemical compound called dioxin. A different method is used today, which significantly reduces the amount of dioxin found in tampons.

Betsey Miller, a certified nurse practitioner at Messiah College, notes that trace amount of dioxin present in tampons is harmless.

“Dioxin is present in tampons, but only in trace amounts, so it isn’t significant enough to be harmful. It also will not raise your risk of toxic shock syndrome, since the two are not related” she says.

I heard a rumor about tampons containing asbestos. True or false?

Just like rumors spread about harmful amounts of dioxin being present in tampons, false news has been released about tampon manufacturers adding asbestos to tampons.

According to WebMD, asbestos is “a group of minerals with thin, microscopic fibers.” Many products in the automotive and construction industries contain asbestos, but when the products are disturbed, the tiny fibers can be released into the air, which can harm the lungs.

When we asked Miller about asbestos in tampons, she confirmed that they are not present in tampons, so collegiettes have nothing to worry about when it comes to asbestos and tampon usage.

Is there any relation between tampon ingredients & toxic shock syndrome?

Toxic shock syndrome, commonly referred to as TSS, is a very rare but serious disease commonly caused by staph bacteria. You may have heard about TSS in health class or read about it in the booklet that comes with every box of tampons.

It’s important to note that TSS is a disease that can affect men, children and postmenopausal women, not just menstruating women. A common issue that can bring forth the symptoms of TSS is tampon absorbency. An easy way to lower your risk for TSS is to make sure that you monitor the absorbency of your tampon throughout your cycle based on your flow.

Miller says that “TSS is related to how often you leave your tampon in, rather than the ingredients in the tampon itself.” Going back to what she mentioned earlier about tampon ingredients, she reiterated that the actual ingredients of tampons are not a risk factor for collegiettes, as they are constantly approved and monitored by the FDA.

Speaking of TSS...how can I prevent that?

To stay healthy, and to avoid the trauma that comes with removing a tampon too early, make sure you are using lower absorbency tampons and that you are changing them often. This time range is usually between 4-8 hours, but you may need to change one earlier than necessary during the first few days of your period.

Miller also says that collegiettes should never sleep with a tampon in or leave one in for more than eight hours, since it can increase your risk for bacterial infections and other preventable problems.

What's the difference between organic and regular tampons?

The battle between regular and organic tampons is more of a matter of preference rather than one of health concern. Both types of tampons will absorb your flow in the same way and both are safe to use.

The “all-natural” and “organic” labels do not necessarily mean “better.” It brings a higher level of comfort to many women, but can often just be a marketing tactic, according to Miller.

Many tampon manufacturers list the ingredients of their tampons on their websites, so if you want to learn more about specific ingredients between different brands, you can easily find out.

With this relevant and current tampon knowledge under your belt, we hope that you’ll be able to handle your period with extra confidence and security. Now, pass the chocolate!

    13 Halloween-Inspired Manicure Ideas

    0
    0

With Halloween creeping up (pun intended) around the corner, we’re ready to get into the spooky spirit! While wearing an actual costume is only socially acceptable on the actual day of October 31st, giving yourself a Halloween-inspired manicure is an easy way to celebrate early without looking ridiculous. Here are a bunch of ideas for your Halloween manicure for every nail-art skill level. And don’t worry; they aren’t the typical yellow, white and orange stripes (candy corn nails… groundbreaking).

Tip: Use a base coat for all of these designs so you don’t stain your nails. Also, always use a top coat to seal in your pretty designs and make them chip-resistant for a longer period of time.

    1. Plain orange

For the busy girl: one color, no fancy designs and no hassle.

    Level of difficulty: Easy

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

Just apply two coats of the orange polish to your fingers for a quick mani. If you want to make the color of the orange really pop, start by adding a single coat of white nail polish and let it dry before applying the orange. The white base coat acts as a real “blank canvas” for the orange, so the color comes out truer to the color it is in the bottle. Even if you used your only free 15 minutes of the week to do this, you’ll be super happy whenever you look down at your bright orange nails!

    2. Faux claws

For the girl who wants to be fierce every day.

    Level of difficulty: Easy

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

    • Put on one coat of the tan nail polish, making sure to keep this layer smooth and even.
    • Once the tan is 100 percent dry, tape off the end of your nails with two pieces of Scotch tape.
    • Place the tape diagonally to form a point that meets at the very tip of your nail, and smooth out any bumps or air bubbles.
    • Apply two coats of the black nail polish onto the uncovered parts of your nails, being careful to not let any color get underneath the tape.
    • When the black is dry, slowly peel back the tape, making sure to not pull off any color from your nails.
    • Your cat will have a new level of respect for you after seeing your “claws.”

    3. Orange French

    For the subtle Halloween enthusiast.

    Level of difficulty: Easy

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

    • Place a piece of tape on each of your nails, leaving a small space at the tips for the orange polish.
    • The top edge of the tape should be where you want the orange to end.
    • Make sure the tape is smoothed down completely before you paint your tips, and then paint the space above the tape with the orange nail polish.
    • Once the orange has dried, carefully remove the tape and apply a thin coat of the sheer polish to your entire nail.
    • You don’t want to alter the color of your tips too much with this color; that’s why you’ll want to use a thin coat here as opposed to a thicker one.
    • Never has your subtle enthusiasm for a holiday looked so good!

    4. Ghosts

For all of us who watch Ghost Hunters and swear it’s not staged.

    Level of difficulty: Medium

    What you’ll need:

    • White nail polish
    • Black nail polish
    • A toothpick

    Instructions:

    • Apply two coats of white nail polish and let it dry completely.
    • Dip your toothpick in the bottle of black nail polish about a centimeter deep, just enough to get some color (but not so much that it’ll be dripping everywhere).
    • Make two dots toward the bottom of your nails for the ghost’s eyes.
    • For the ghost’s mouth, make six or seven dots really close together.
    • Lightly run the toothpick over the mouth dots to blend them together and create one large blob.
    • The next time someone says ghosts aren’t real, just flash them your cute manicure.

    5. Spooky Eyes

For those girls who enjoy people watching out of their dorm-room window or Facebook stalking.

    Level of difficulty: Medium

    What you’ll need:

    • Black nail polish
    • White nail polish
    • 2 toothpicks

    Instructions:

    • Paint your nails with two coats of the black polish and let them dry fully.
    • Take one of the toothpicks and dip it in the white polish.
    • Make two medium-sized dots on your nail for the eyes, and let those dry completely as well.
    • Once the white is dry, dip the second toothpick in the black and make small dots inside the larger white dots for pupils.
    • Now you won’t have to feel so alone when you’re two years deep into someone’s Facebook profile at 3 a.m.

    6. Stitched French

For the classic girl with a little bit of an edgy side.

    Level of difficulty: Medium

    What you’ll need:

    • Orange nail polish
    • Sheer pink or nude nail polish
    • Black nail polish
    • Scotch tape
    • A toothpick

    Instructions:

    • Follow the instructions for the Orange French (see number three on this list).
    • Wait until the sheer polish is dry before painting on the stiches.
    • Get some of the black nail polish on the end of your toothpick and draw a line horizontally across the bottom of the orange tip.
    • Add five or six smaller lines perpendicular to that one to create the look of stitches.
    • Everyone from the classic prepsters to the trendy hipsters will be staring at your mani.

    7. Blood Drips

For the girls who have always been, and will always be, Team Edward (or for those who can't decide which Salvatore brother is hotter).

    Level of difficulty: Medium

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

    • Paint all your nails with the red polish except for your ring fingers.
    • On your ring fingers, start the design by painting red around your cuticles.
    • If you get nail polish all over your fingers during this step (we’ve all been there), you can go back later with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover.
    • While the red by your cuticles is still wet, take your toothpick dipped in the polish and make 3 dots at various heights across your nail.
    • Going back in with more of the red nail polish on the toothpick, make squiggly lines from the dots to the red base.
    • While this is still pretty wet, take some more red polish on your toothpick and make the lines that connect your dots to the base look more gradual by making them thicker by the bottom and thinning out at the top.
    • You want to make all alterations to your design while the nail polish is still wet to make it easier to blend together and look more uniform.
    • Edward Cullen would definitely approve.

    8. Candy Buttons

For the girl who wants to have her candy but maybe not eat it, too.

    Level of difficulty: Medium

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

    • Paint all of your nails white to start off and let them dry completely before starting the design.
    • Take a toothpick with some turquoise nail polish on it and make two rows of dots going across your nail.
    • You can do this diagonally (like in the picture) or going horizontally across your nails—whichever one you like better!
    • Next, take the yellow nail polish and a fresh toothpick and do the same thing. Follow this with the pink nail polish.
    • The tricky part about this design is trying to get all the dots to be the same size and also making sure that they are evenly spaced and going in straight lines.
    • If the lines start going crooked or the dots are all different sizes, you could lose the look of candy buttons and start moving towards the direction of just regular ole polka dots.

    9. Skeletons

For all of us who went through that phase is middle school when we were obsessed with Hot Topic and boys in skinny jeans.

    Level of difficulty: Hard

    What you’ll need:

    • White nail polish
    • Black nail polish
    • A toothpick

    Instructions:

    • Start off by painting all your nails white and letting them dry.
    • For the actual skull face, begin by making the eyes.
    • Get some black nail polish on the toothpick and make two medium-sized dots about a third of the way up from the bottom.
    • These dots should be close to the sides of your nails (make sure there is enough room in between them for the nose dots).
    • For the nose, make two small black dots in between the eyes, but a little higher up.
    • For the mouth of the skull, start by making a black line about from the middle of the top of your nail about a third of the way down.
    • Make two mirroring lines on either side of the initial line.
    • Finally, to define the shape of the skull’s chin, make a triangle on either side of the black lines you just made.
    • These triangles should start at the bottom of your nail and go about as far down as the three black lines.
    • After the triangles are drawn in, make the inside edge of it a little curved, so it mimics the shape of a face instead of just having straight lines.
    • Middle-school you would be raving over your mani if she could see it.

    10. Nontraditional candy corn

For the girl who read the first paragraph of this article and was sad to see that the striped candy-corn nail would be missing.

    Level of difficulty: Hard

    What you’ll need:

    • White nail polish
    • Yellow nail polish
    • Orange nail polish
    • Scotch tape
    • A toothpick

    Instructions:

    • Paint your nails white and let them dry all the way.
    • Using the Scotch tape, tape off about two-thirds of the way up your nails.
    • Below the tape, paint your nails with the yellow nail polish.
    • Make sure there are no air bubbles under the tape before doing this.
    • Once the yellow has dried, carefully remove the tape.
    • Using your toothpick, make a lot of small dots that are concentrated where the white and yellow polish meet.
    • Continue making small dots up and down your nail, letting their saturation fade as they get further from the white/yellow division line.
    • See? How much cuter is this than three boring stripes?

    11. Glittery Black French

Perfect for the glitzy Halloween partygoer.

    Level of difficulty: Hard

    What you’ll need:

    • Black nail polish
    • Sheer pink or nude nail polish
    • Orange glitter nail polish
    • Scotch tape

    Instructions:

    • Follow the instructions for the Orange French (number three on this list), except instead of using orange nail polish, use black.
    • Once your French has dried, you can begin to add the glitter.
    • To paint the top of your nails, don’t wipe the excess off the brush on the inside of the bottle.
    • Take the polish-covered brush, turn it so it’s on its side and dab on the glitter over the black on your tips.
    • Repeat this as many times you want to, depending on how thick you want the glitter.
    • Go down the rest of your nail with the glitter, dabbing like you did for the top.
    • Make sure to fade out the amount of glitter you’re applying to create an ombré effect.
    • Don’t be surprised when people at your Halloween party are paying more attention to your nails than to your costume.

    12. Jack-o’-Lanterns

For the girl who loves the real thing but hates the pumpkin guts.

    Level of difficulty: Hard

    What you’ll need:

    Instructions:

    • Paint your nails with two coats of the orange nail polish.
    • On top of the orange, add one coat of the glitter nail polish to give the jack-o’-lanterns some depth.
    • With the toothpick and black nail polish, carefully draw little faces onto your nails.

    13. Spiders

For girls who are deathly afraid of spiders, have no fear! These spiders are too cute to be afraid of.

    Level of difficulty: Hard

    What you’ll need:

    • Orange nail polish
    • Black nail polish
    • White nail polish
    • 2 toothpicks

    Instructions:

    • Start off by painting all of your nails orange and allowing them to dry.
    • Next, go in with some black nail polish on your toothpick and make medium-sized dots in the middle of each of your nails to make the bodies of the spiders.
    • Add little L shapes to either side of the bodies for legs and one straight line connecting the body to the top of your nail by the cuticle for a web.
    • Allow the black polish to dry.
    • Go in next with the white nail polish on a new toothpick and make five dots on each of your nails: three on the orange part of your nail for background decoration, and two toward the tops of the spider bodies for eyes.
    • Once the white polish has dried, make two small black dots in the centers of the two white eye dots to add more detail to the eyes and to make the spiders look super cute and friendly.
    • You might even forget about your fear of spiders because of how harmless the ones on your nails look.

Call it childish, but no matter how old we get, we’ll never get tired of crafting! Not only is it fun, but it makes for great (and inexpensive) dorm room décor. With Halloween right around the corner, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to find some great DIY crafts to get our apartments and dorm rooms ready for October 31. Whether you want to prep for your own Halloween bash or just love DIY projects, check out these nine easy Halloween crafts you can complete in your dorm!

    1. Candy Corn Mason Jars

    What you need:

    • Orange, yellow and white spray paint
    • 3 Mason jars
    • Assorted black dyed faux flowers

Start out by spraying the entire Mason jar white. Once dry, spray the middle portion of the jar with the orange spray paint. Finally, spray the bottom of the jar yellow. Repeat on the next two jars. Accent with assorted black dyed flowers.

    2. Blinged-Out Pumpkin

    What you need:

    • Black spray paint
    • One pumpkin
    • Assorted craft jewels

Trade in the traditional jack-o’-lantern for this glamorous alternative. Simply spray-paint a pumpkin black (or buy a black plastic pumpkin) and add your favorite “bling” for some pizzazz.

    3. Boo Jars

    What you need:

    • Mini Mason jars
    • Candy corn (or other Halloween candy)
    • Ribbon
    • Scrapbook paper
    • Cardboard letters

Give your roommates a treat (not a trick!) with this cute Halloween favor. Simply fill your mini Mason jars with your favorite Halloween candy and replace the lid with fall-themed scrapbook paper. Accent with orange and black ribbons and cardboard letters that spell out the word “BOO.”

    4. Halloween Wine Bottles

    What you need:

    • Empty wine bottles (or other assorted glass bottles)
    • Various colors of spray paint
    • Painter’s tape
    • Sharpie marker
    • Mod Podge
    • Black glitter

Start by removing all labels and residue from your bottles. Then, depending on the type of design you want, tape off part of your bottle using painter’s tape. Spray with the color of your choice over the taped-off area. Once dried, remove the tape and decorate with black Sharpie. If desired, add black glitter by mixing it with Mod Podge and painting over the black Sharpie.

    5. Halloween Milk Jug Ghosts

    What you need:

    • Empty milk jugs
    • Sharpie markers
    • X-Acto knife
    • Mini lights

Light up your hall or living room with these easy-to-make Halloween lanterns. Start by cleaning out the milk jugs and decorating them with spooky faces using a black Sharpie. On the opposite side of the face, cut a small flap (about two inches wide and two inches tall) and string lights through the opening, adding five to seven lights to each jug.

    6. Pumpkin Paper Lanterns

    What you need:

    • Orange paper lantern
    • Green paper
    • Scissors
    • Craft glue
    • Green and brown pipe cleaners
    • Wire frame

Using the green paper and pipe cleaners, create a leaf and tendrils. Attach the leaf and tendrils to the paper lantern by winding the ends of the pipe cleaner around the wire frame. Create a stem by rolling a few sheets of the green paper together into a tapered shape. Attach the stem to the lantern using glue. Secure by wrapping another pipe cleaner around the base of the stem and securing it to the wire frame.

    7. Monogram Pumpkins

    What you need:

    • Monogram template
    • Pushpin or needle
    • Pen
    • Linoleum cutter
    • Keyhole saw
    • Candle

Cut a hole in the pumpkin’s base and hollow the pumpkin out. Tape the monogram template to the pumpkin using masking tape. Using pushpins, poke holes to create an outline of the letters. Use these dots as a stencil to carve out the letter, leaving about half the thickness of the translucent flesh of the pumpkin to allow light to show through. Light a candle inside and watch your pumpkin glow!

    8. Chevron Pumpkins

    What you need:

    • Masking tape
    • Scissors
    • Spray paint (any color)

Using masking tape and scissors, tape a chevron design around the pumpkin. Spray-paint the pumpkin using any color spray paint. Let dry, remove the tape and voilà: a cute and classy Halloween decoration.

    9. Burlap Ghost Lights

    What you need:

    • Globe string lights
    • Burlap fabric scraps
    • Twill string
    • Sharpie marker

Add some Halloween spirit to your everyday string light décor by wrapping burlap around the globe bulbs. Tie the burlap pieces at the bottom of each globe bulb using twill string and let the remaining fabric hang. Add a ghostly effect by drawing two eyes on each bulb with the Sharpie marker.

Now you just have to grab your DIY box full of Mason jars and spray paint and get crafting! Before you know it, your living space will be covered with just the right amount of Halloween decorations.

7 Truths About Dating Freshman Year No One Told You

    0
    0

Now that you’re a few weeks into your first semester, you may be anxious to test the waters in your first college relationship. But are you doing it for the right reasons? You may feel obligated to go with the crowd and leave your comfort zone to pursue a relationship; but at the same time, maybe you’re afraid that your hookup(s) will give you an undesirable rep. With the freedom that college fosters, you may be a little overwhelmed. We’re here to tell you that whatever you pursue romantically is not a reflection of your character or aspirations.

    1. Not everyone makes romantic relationships a priority

College is a busier world than the familiar realm of high school. Being a college student means balancing academics, work, socializing and clubs. It means developing time management and scheduling skills. It means determining what is important to you and pursuing your aspirations. Michelle Lu, a junior at Pepperdine University, finds the commitment conflicts true: “Everyone is in a different place in life, so it's hard to date as a freshman.” If you’re anxious to date someone, especially when you’re so early in your college career, be sure you note that everyone has a busy schedule. If someone you’re dating isn’t able to devote time to you sometimes, don’t take it personally! It’s not because they're trying to avoid you—it’s often because life can be hectic and being in a relationship involves time that some people cannot commit.

    2. You are not defined by your sexual decisions

The public perception of a committed relationship and casual sex is very black and white. Many women are torn between conforming to what appears to be the “social norm” of “hookup culture” and not appearing promiscuous to others. Julie Zeilinger, founder of the feminist blog The FBomb and author of College 101: A Girl’s Guide to Freshman Year, shared some insight with us about detaching one’s sexual choices from the stereotypes that women fear becoming associated with.

“I think all freshman women would do well to think about dating and their romantic lives outside of any kinds of constructs like ‘serious’ relationships or ‘casual’ dating — especially stereotypes about what ‘kind’ of girl engages in either,” Zeilinger explains. “The truth is that one's sexual behavior or choices should have and realistically don't have any bearing on one's character who they fundamentally are. As long they're responsible and safe and feel respected by their partner, young women should feel empowered to engage in whatever type of sexual arrangement is most satisfying to them.”

Your relationship, whether it’s committed or not, isn't an indication of your loyalty or trustworthiness. It’s not an indication of your reliability or work ethic. It doesn’t define your career aspirations or how much you care about social issues. Your relationship preferences are as personal as your taste in food combinations. “Gasp! You like syrup with your fries? You must be unmotivated, nonchalant and stubborn!” Was that sentence logically sound? We didn’t think so, either.

    3. Having more freedom in college changes up the dating game

Depending on your college environment, dating culture can vary among campuses. “It's hard to make generalizations, but I would say overall the biggest difference is the newfound autonomy students have in college,” Zeilinger mentions. “There are no curfews, you have your own space and a largely unprecedented ability to make the choices you want to make.”

That being said, a difference between high school and college dating is the fact that you can have sleepovers with people you’re attracted to. For example, you might be really into the idea of hooking up with someone who lives on the same floor as you. They’re close by, so getting back to your room in the morning doesn’t have to be an endurance test. The negatively regarded morning stroll dubbed the “walk of shame” ends up being the 15-foot stretch from their room to yours, so that might turn heads as you attempt to inconspicuously dart down the hallway.

Many believe “floorcest” or “dormcest” are basically ingredients for awksauce salad. The concept of “the girl next door” is different when used in a college dorm. Jenna*, a sophomore from Washington University in St. Louis, finds that floorcest can become especially awkward when “one of the residents is more romantically interested than the other.” Additionally, “It’s even more awkward when the couple has the same group of friends.” Definitely don’t be surprised if you find yourself caught in the middle of a few awkward situations when you’re dating. Ask yourself, “Will I feel uncomfortable after the fact?” If the answer is yes, don't do it.

    4. People in college come from various backgrounds, so take your time and learn about where they come from when you're dating

Sure, it’s true for high school, but even more so in college. People who have grown up all over the world congregate in one central location: your college. The diverse environments that colleges offer make it easy to date different types of people. It’s exciting to be in contact with people from so many cultures. You can learn as much from them as they can learn from you—communicate!

In high school, you probably lived in the same town as your SO. The population is not nearly as diverse as a college population. If you find yourself dating someone who grew up in a different culture, the most important thing you can do for them is to respect the ways they are different from you. Converse with them open-mindedly. Ask them about their hometown. Tell them about yours.

    5. Taking things slow is necessary

School, works, clubs—college is a balancing act that takes time to get used to. “Freshman year is such a transitional time where you have so much to figure out,” says Kelly Rourke, a junior from Clark University. It’s important for you to be on top of things, especially when you’re inching your way towards adulthood! Don’t let relationships let you fall behind in school and other aspects of campus life!

If you decide to start dating amidst the rest of your responsibilities, make sure you take the time to really know the person. As mentioned before, they may come from a different city or culture. Rushing into a relationship will only stress you out; you don’t want to be in a relationship with someone who has a different personality than you had thought at the first impression.

    6. You’re in college for school

Yes, college is an opportunity to discover yourself and your interests and, ultimately, prepare yourself for a professional career. Relationships—maybe even finding your future spouse—are perks, but not what college is all about. Use the years you’re in school for personal development and learning skills relevant to your dream career. Let hookups and relationships be second-string. “Chase dreams, not boys,” Michelle says. “Because if you chase them, they’ll keep on running.” Besides, you’re more likely to find the person you’re destined to be with when you aren’t actively searching for them.

    7. Social “norms” shouldn’t be your motivation to date

When you’re getting dinner with your girls and none of them will stop talking about their last hookup or boyfriend, you might feel like the odd one out. “What’s wrong with me?” or “Why am I so boring?” may be thoughts that linger in your head. It’s important that you only pursue what is comfortable for you and not what the world thinks you should be comfortable with. “I think the biggest thing young women can do for themselves is to really, truly check in with themselves and ask themselves what they want,” Zeilinger advises. “Many women...often feel pressured to conform to trends on campus or to engage in behavior that might not feel right to them just because everybody else is. I wish I had realized that my own happiness was (and is) far more important than conforming to social norms or concerns about what others might think.”

In short, prioritize your own happiness over others’ perception of you.

College has an intriguing dynamic when it comes to dating. Everyone is in a newfound state of independence. They are trying to figure themselves out as individuals. No one in college is finished growing, so the people you date may not necessarily be “the same” a couple of years down the road. A great amount of your personal development occurs in your university years.

In high school, dating didn’t take as much effort. You saw them everyday. You had lots of classes with them. In college, dating involves actively making time for your SO. You might not have as many classes with them. During long breaks, you might be a thousand miles apart. Don’t let a relationship become a great source of stress. Definitely have fun, but don’t lose sight of the real reason you’re in college.

Donald Trump Holds Press Conference With Bill Clinton's Accusers Less Than 2 Hours Before Debate

Less than two hours before the second presidential debate, Donald Trump held a three-minute press conference with four women and sexual assault victims who said they were hurt by Hillary Clinton’s actions. The press conference comes after the release of a hot mic video Friday in which Trump talked about sexually assaulting women in graphic language.

The women at the press conference were Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broaddrick, all of whom have accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault, as well as Kathy Shelton. Shelton was raped in 1975, when she was 12 years old, and Hillary Clinton defended her rapist in court.

All four of the women said they support Trump for president. None addressed the video from Friday, and none talked in detail about why they think Trump is a better candidate than Clinton.

“I’m here to support Mr. Trump because he’s going to make America great again,” Jones said. “And I think everybody else should vote for him. And I think they should all look at the fact that he’s a good person, he’s not what other people have been saying he’s being, like Hillary, so, think about that.”

Each of the other women also made brief statements, while Trump was silent aside from an introduction and inviting each woman to speak. At the end, when reporters began peppering Trump with questions about his treatment of women, Jones shot back, “Why don’t y’all ask Bill Clinton that? Go ahead and ask Hillary as well.”

In the video released Friday, Trump talked about trying to “fuck” a married woman and claimed that he could do anything due to his star power, including “grab her by the pussy.” Trump has also been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.

Over the weekend following the hot mic video, more than 50 Republican leaders have denounced Trump’s statements, with nearly 30 saying he should end his bid for the presidency.

    9 Co-ed Group Halloween Costumes

The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing and the grocery stores are filling their aisles with candy. This can only mean one thing: Halloween is just around the corner! Bring on the scary movies, haunted houses and seemingly endless amount of candy corn. However, the most anticipated aspect of Halloween each year is definitely the costumes. Choosing a costume can be a difficult decision but should also be a fun one. While planning your own costume is fun, why not gather a few of your best friends—guys and girls alike—and try a group costume this year? After all, the more the merrier!

    1. The Muppets

The Muppets are making a comeback with their new TV series, so why not bring back this old-time classic? You can buy these costumes at any big costume-retailer. Or you can make your own with clothing that you already own. Add simple touches such as pig ears for Miss Piggy or paint your face green to be Kermit the Frog!

    2. The How to Get Away with Murder cast

This popular TV series (#TGIT, anybody?) is one of the most thrilling shows around, which makes it perfect for Halloween! You and your friends can easily recreate these notorious characters. The only hard part is choosing which character is right for you! Are you sassy like Michaela Pratt or a jokester like Asher? Do you tend to attract trouble like Wes, or are you a flirt like Connor? Better yet, try to imitate the powerful Annalise Keating, if you dare.

    3. Ghostbusters

What better way to fight off the ghosts of Halloween than by dressing up as a Ghostbuster? It's super simple and very recognizable. Start off by wearing any beige-colored clothing; then, accessorize with a black belt and boots. Finish off your outfit by grabbing your proton pack—either a backpack or a portable vacuum cleaner will work! For even more fun, have a couple of your friends dress up as ghosts and chase them all across campus.

    4. Harry Potter characters

Harry Potter may have been around for many years, but it is always a great idea for a group costume. All you need is a white button-up or collared shirt, a gray bottom (either a skirt or pants will do) and a black robe. Then, find out which house you belong to and accessorize with a tie or scarf in your house's colors!

    5. The Avengers

Superheroes will never go out of style. Why not have your gang dress up as one of the most ultimate squads in the world—the Avengers. This costume can be as simple as wearing a shirt with your favorite hero's symbol or as elaborate as the DIY costumes shown above. The more details, the better!

    6. Major presidential candidates of 2016

The 2016 election has been very interesting, to say the least. Why not dress up as your favorite—or the most controversial—candidate? Dress up in a suit, accessorize with some of the candidate's campaign materials and imitate the heck out of 'em. Whether you're wearing Bernie Sanders' glasses, Donald Trump's hair or Hillary Clinton's pearl necklace, you're sure to be quite the conversation starter. If you have a giant group of friends, why not go as every single Republican candidate?

    7. Mario Kart characters

Mario Kart may have been immensely popular a while ago, but the characters will always be remembered. All it takes is a couple pairs of overalls and various colored shirts to be Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi. Any pink dress will suffice for Princess Peach. Attach some balloons to your bike and ride all around town, trying to pop each other's balloons. This group costume will certainly result in many laughs and photos.

    8. Sushi rolls

Who doesn't like sushi? For this costume, get a white pillow and decorate it like your favorite type of sushi. Then, wear some white clothing and attach the pillow to your back with some green fabric. Super simple and very cute!

    9. Roller coaster ride

This costume will definitely take much more time and effort than some of the others listed here, but it will all be worth it! Create a roller coaster seat and fill a pair of jeans with cloth to create the illusion that you are sitting in the rollercoaster. Then, put your acting skills to the test as you pretend to be on an exhilarating ride with your friends. The more people you get to do this with you, the more realistic it will be. Just make sure to coordinate your movements with the whole group.

Will you and your pals be heading out in any of these co-ed group costumes this Halloween, collegiettes?

Here's The Second Presidential Debate in Tweets

    0
    0

We were all on the edge of our seats going into the second presidential debate this Sunday. Just days after a video was released of Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women, causing dozens of Republican leaders to denounce him, the candidates had to face off on stage—and it was just as absurd as you'd expect. From emails to tax returns to Bill Clinton's womanizing, the focus of the night was definitely on personal history rather than policy. At least we had Anderson Cooper!

Check out the highlights from our live-tweet below.

Clinton & Trump Had to Name One Good Thing About Each Other During the Second Presidential Debate

    0
    0

The second presidential debate seemed to primarily focus on the candidates’ past transgressions. From Hillary Clinton’s misuse of her private email to Donald Trump’s recently released vulgar comments about touching women nonconsensually, the debate contained a lot of mudslinging. But there was one question during the debate that really captured us all. Karl Becker, an audience member from the debate, asked the final question of the night: Would either of you name one positive thing you respect in one another?

According to Fox News, Becker’s question drew the loudest applause and laughter from the crowd. And unlike some of the other questions of the night, this one actually got a straight answer from both of the candidates.

Clinton said that she respected Trump’s children. She continued, saying, “His children are incredibly able and devoted and I think that says a lot about Donald. I don’t agree with nearly anything else he says or does, but I do respect that. And I think that is something that as a mother and a grandmother is very important to me.”

Trump said that Clinton is a fighter who never gives up. “I tell it like it is. She’s a fighter, I disagree with much of what she’s fighting for, I do disagree with her judgment in many cases, but she does fight hard and she doesn’t quit and she doesn’t give up and I consider that to be a very good trait,” Trump said.

Even though Trump and Clinton did not share a handshake at the beginning of the debate, their final remarks left a good feeling in the air and lead both candidates to end the debate in a handshake.

Through a campaign that has focused on negative rhetoric and has been so divisive, it was nice to finally be able to come together and focus on the good.
