Taylor Swift's Brother Austin Says She's His Inspiration

When it comes to having a role model, many look up to family members. The same goes for Austin Swift, the younger brother of Taylor Swift.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Austin talked about how his sister's accomplishments are an inspiration to him.

"When we were kids, I saw Taylor write songs every day for years when there was no one to play them to," Austin said. "Having seen that example, how much goes in, how long it took ... That's always going to be bedrock for who I am and who I want to be."

He also explained the ~hustle~ even a young Taylor had—she would to "door-to-door dropping off demo CDs at labels that never called." And no matter what audience she was singing to, she would put in all the effort and enthusiasm we see of her sold-out stadium shows.

Austin graduated in 2015 from the University of Notre Dame where he studied film, and he recently landed a role in the thriller "I.T." alongside Pierce Brosnan. With a big sister like Taylor Swift, talent must run in the family.

Justin Bieber Told Some Of His Fans That They "Suck"

Not that we expect much when it comes to Justin Bieber's behavior, but... he's at it again. He hasn't been good to his fans in recent months, but he's reached a new low, even for him.

Now in Norway for the European leg of his tour, a fan trying to get Justin’s attention posted a video to Vine and claimed the singer said “you guys suck” as he quickly passed by them.

Many have argued that the audio is not crystal clear and it kind of, sort of sounds like he might be saying “can you stop.” (You can decide for yourself.) Either way he’s not necessarily giving the warm and fuzzy vibe, but when over the past several years has he?

FYI Biebs, just because you produce some bomb music doesn't mean you can be a dick.

Healthy Snack Alternatives For Every Craving

It’s 10 p.m., you’ve been up studying for three hours straight and you’re starting to go cross-eyed. The words “snack break” are repeated again and again until you cave and eat an entire bag of chips. Snacks are about as much a part of college as homework, but the constant worry of the freshman (or sophomore, junior or senior) fifteen only adds unnecessary stress.

Have no fear, though, because we hunted down the absolute best healthy snacks to munch happily on, whether you’re in-between classes, taking a study break or looking for something to pair with your latest Netflix binge. So instead of reaching for the potato Oreos, try one of these delicious and nutritious substitutes, no matter what craving you have.

If you’re craving chips…

If potato chips, tortilla chips or Doritos are on your mind, then you’re in the mood for something salty. These snacks contain tons of unnecessary fats and actually way more salt than you need, so instead try:

Pumpkin Seeds/Sunflower Seeds

Both of these crunchy seeds are super snackable, and you’ll still get to feel like you’re munching away without getting all of the unnecessary fats that come with chips. Plus they’re filled with plenty fiber, so you’ll fill up quicker and avoid overeating. Just keep in mind that they are calorie-packed, so put a serving into a bowl to avoid over-eating. Pumpkin seeds are a personal favorite of Sarah Madaus, a sophomore at Temple University, who says that she loves them because “they’re a complete protein (all 8 amino acids), they're full of good fats and they're a delicious way to curb the salty craving.”

Tequila Shot Cucumbers

This snack is similar to a tequila-less tequila shot. Instead of tequila though, cut up some cucumbers, sprinkle some salt on them and squeeze a little lime juice on top. The result is a perfectly crunchy and salty snack that is completely addicting. Madeline Frisk, a senior at Oregon State University, says these are her go-to snack. “My roommate made these freshman year and I didn't think I would like them at first but I absolutely love them,” she says. “Once you start snacking on these it's hard to stop. My roommate also added chili powder so if you like spicy food that's definitely a great way to spice these up.”

Popcorn

This is a classic Netflix pairing, but instead of munching on a bag of microwave popcorn that can be over 400 calories and loaded with bad fats, try making your own by popping some kernels in a pot with a bit of oil on the stove. Just make sure to put a lid on top! Then, coat it in hot sauce, which actually has zero calories. Or, if you don’t feel like making it yourself, there are tons of low-cal premade options. “I love love love munching on Boom Chicka Pop or Skinny Pop when I need a study snack or something to eat while I'm on a Netflix binge,” says Sarah M.

If you’re craving anything chocolate…

This one is tricky because chocolate is irreplaceable…but there are healthy alternatives, including the following:

Dark Chocolate

If you absolutely cannot settle for anything less than chocolate, then switch out milk chocolate for some dark chocolate. Go for 70 percent dark chocolate, but make sure not to eat too much. One ounce, which is about one square of chocolate can be around 170 calories, so this works well for an unexpected craving—but won’t fill you up too much.

Love Crunch

This is basically the love child of trail mix and granola. There are tons of flavors, but if you’re looking for something especially chocolaty, Sammi Burke, Siena College Alum, recommends their Dark Chocolate & Red Berries flavor. “It's a granola mixed with dark chocolate chunks and dried berries,” she says “It’s sweet, chocolaty and crunchy.”

Lärabars

These are mega-addictive bars that you can eat without feeling guilty. Sometimes snack bars are loaded with sugar and are pretty much a glorified candy bar, but these are made with natural ingredients, fruits, nuts and spices. Plus, they’re gluten free, non-GMO and have vegan, dairy-free and soy-free options, so anyone can enjoy them. Elizabeth Lloyd, a senior at Minnesota State University loves the Lärabar bites. “They are like brownies!” she says. If you can’t decide which flavor to get, you can also try their Variety Box, which has everything from peanut butter cookie, to apple pie, to chocolate chip cookie dough flavors.

If you’re craving ice cream…

Who doesn’t love ice cream? It’s cold, creamy and so good that sometimes you don’t even notice that you’ve eaten an entire pint—oops. It’s definitely great as a dessert, but it’s not the healthiest choice out there, so try one of these cool snacks instead:

Nice Cream (Banana soft serve)

The name, “nice cream,” says it all when it comes to this ice cream substitute. It has all of your favorite things about ice cream without making you feel guilty for eating the entire thing. To make your own nice cream, blend frozen bananas with a little milk and then add toppings. Sammi Caramela, a senior at Rowan University says, “try toppings like dark chocolate, coconut shavings, granola, or other fruit!” You won’t even believe you’re not eating actual ice cream.

Halo Top

If you aren’t much of a do-it-yourselfer, then Halo Top is a great ice cream substitute. The low-cal ice cream is less than 300 calories a pint—yes, an ENTIRE pint. Chances are you won’t even be able to finish the whole thing anyways, and the texture and flavors are exactly like ice cream. Sarah Westbrook loves Halo Top becuase it's so close to the real thing. "This summer I tried working on a "summer bod" but what is summer without ice cream?" she says. "I finally found a store that had halo top and was hooked...I can eat a pint in one sitting. But the best is when you mix the birthday cake with the chocolate flavor." Also make sure to check out their strawberry flavor!

Greek Yogurt

The creamy texture of yogurt is a close trade with ice cream for way less sugar and fat. Plus, it will keep you full while still acting as a treat. Emily Luc, a senior at UNH[spell out] says this is one of her favorite snacks. “The Chobani Flip yogurts are one of my favorites because there is wide variety of flavors, you can eat it on the go and they’re delicious.” If you’re craving something a little sweeter, you can also add plenty of toppings, which is what Madaus [first name] does to treat herself. “My go-to snack right now is Oikos Greek yogurt Banana Peanut Butter Crunch,” she says. “I usually treat it like a desert, because there are more calories and sugars than plain yogurt because of the chocolate and peanut butter bits. The yogurt is sweet, and in addition to the chocolate/pb bits there's a bit of a crumble of something in there which gives it the crunch.”

If you’re craving cookies…

It’s so tempting to stash a sleeve of Oreos in your cabinet and grab a few (or six) without even thinking. But three Oreos hold 160 calories and 14 grams of sugar–so, instead, make the calories count:

Apples and Peanut Butter

Switch out the cookies for this sweet and crunchy snack. The apples will fill in for the sweetness of the cookie, and adding some PB makes everything taste better. Plus, the protein in the peanut butter and the fiber in the apple will fill you up. Madeline loves the convenience of this substitute. “I love this snack because it's a quick and easy snack that I can throw in my backpack if needed,” she says. “All I have to do is slice up an apple, grab some peanut butter and start dipping.”

Sarah M. also loves the peanut butter and apple combo—but with a twist. “For dessert sometimes I like to cut up fresh apples into bite sized pieces, pour over two tablespoons of melted natural peanut butter, and sprinkle a few dark chocolate chips on top,” she says. “So yum!”

Fruit Leather

OK, so this doesn’t fit in with the crunchy aspect of a cookie, but it definitely replaces the sweetness. Basically, they’re the grownup equivalent of Fruit Rollups, so they have to be good. Sarah M. says this is perfect for a sweet tooth. “All natural fruit leather is a perfect chewy snack, and it's super easy to make too!” she says. “My favorite kind is strawberry or raspberry.” There are tons of healthy options to snag at the grocery store, but if you happen to have an affinity for homemade snacks, try making them on your own—it’s super easy!

It you’re craving a (very) late night snack…

After a long night of studying or going out, sometimes you need something filling. No amounts of mini-snacks will work and you want something that feels like a real meal, without actually being one.

Faux PB&J Sandwich

This has everything you love about the classic PB&J, without the excessive amount of sugar. Instead of regular PB, try almond butter. Sarah Zaghi, a sophomore at UCLA even has a genius replacement for the “J.” “Instead of jelly I use fresh fruit… like strawberries or apples,” she says. “The almond butter is salty and crunchy, the fruit is sweet and together it is perfect.” This spin on an old classic will keep you full and works as a much more substantial snack.

Cheese Sticks

Not only are these the most portable snack ever, but also an excellent source of protein so you won’t be reaching for the bag of chips ten minutes post-snack. Madeline says these are perfect for when you’re on-the-go: “I constantly put a cheese stick in my backpack or even with me to parties because they are so easy to transport and when I have a few are a good way to fuel up.”

Buffalo Bites

This is essentially the healthy equivalent of buffalo wings. Instead of chicken, though, use cauliflower. It’s a great way to get in some extra veggies while still feeling like you’re eating bar food. Sarah M. is a big fan of this healthy alternative. “They're delicious,” she says. “They're like buffalo wings, but way lower cal, not fried, and [they’re] vegetables, not meat.” Try this recipe from delish make your own!

Hummus and Veggies

This might not seem very filling, but hummus is absolutely packed with protein, which is exactly what you want when you’re looking for something to fill you up. Instead of the tortilla chips that you usually dip, try carrots, celery, cucumbers or pretty much any veggie that you love. Emily loves this snack because of the low prep time and the fact that it’s just plain delicious. “It's a perfect snack to not feel guilty about indulging in, and it's quick to make,” she says.

It’s time to stop giving snacking such a bad rap! With this go-to guide, you’ll be sure to curb every craving that comes along. So as long as you keep it healthy and reach for the good stuff, snack away.

Here’s the Number of Colleges You Should Actually be Applying to

$

Senior year of high school is one of the most exciting years of your life. Many once-in-a-lifetime events are quickly approaching, but one seems to stand out above the rest ––the time has come to apply to college! You’ve anticipated this moment for a while, and suddenly, it’s here. Where do you begin?

According to Jon Frank, Founder and CEO of Admissionado, students should apply to a minimum of seven to eight colleges. However, there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach here ––if you have the time, money and interest in applying to more, go for it!

"15 schools is a decent number for those who are just competitive and would like to test the limits of their potential," Jon says. "Once you climb above 15, while there's no rule saying you can't or shouldn't, it can start to get a little excessive for the average student. Still, if you are highly motivated and have the time and cash to spend on churning out as many applications as you can, you have nothing to lose!"

Whether your current prospective college list contains 20 schools or two schools, don’t fret. Read below for a guide to finalizing your college list.

Determine your competitiveness

With thousands of colleges and universities across the United States, beginning the college application process can be overwhelming for even the strongest applicant. A good starting point is to determine how competitive you are based on your SAT or ACT scores. "Suppose your SAT score is 1250," Jon says. "Put together a list of schools whose mean SAT score is 1250 +/- 100 points." Your list will probably be long after this first step, but that's okay!

Find three or four match schools

After you've listed the schools whose standardized test ranges you fall into, your next step is to rank these schools to determine the best three or four for you. These schools will be your "match" schools. What are match schools and how do you rank them?

Match schools are colleges or universities that you have a pretty solid chance of getting into, and are good matches for you overall. There are no guarantees that you'll get in, but it is reasonable to assume you have a good chance. These schools can range from your local state school to an out-of-state university.

"Pick your three or four best choices among the schools with the best reputations on your list," Jon says. "Do not focus on factors like student-faculty ratio, geography, class size, etc." According to Jon, reputation should come before any of these factors. If you are ranking schools with equal reputations, then look at these factors.

Choose at least two safety schools

A safety school is a college or university that you know you have a very good chance of getting accepted into, even if it isn’t one you are extremely interested in going to. We know what some of you may be thinking ––why apply to a school that may not be as desirable as some others on your list?

It’s all about reassurance. "Once you've dialed in your core match programs, be smart about applying to the best schools below that range to determine your safeties," Jon says. "[These are] schools where you know you'll be accepted with near 100 percent certainty. Remember, you can always transfer or decide not to attend that college, but don't ever put yourself in a position not to have a choice in the matter." Whether or not you attend one of these schools, safeties give you the comfort of knowing you’ll get accepted somewhere and not be stuck at home.

"Don’t be too distracted by the possibility that you may not be too excited about these schools at the time of your application ––that’s okay," Jon adds. These schools aren't supposed to be the most interesting on your list, pre-collegiettes. Make sure you are applying to at least two!

Related: What Type of College You Should Go to, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Pick two or three reach schools

A reach school is, a college or university where your academic record falls under the average of an incoming freshman. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply! "These are places you have a shot at [getting into], but where admission may not be likely," he says. "Reasonable reach programs are those that likely sit wherever 100 points above your SAT score ends up." According to Jon, you should be applying to two or three reach schools.

Distinguish between a reach school and a dream school, as you don’t want to waste your time and money. "Remove the world’s elite colleges from the equation altogether ––Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, etc.," Jon says. "These should be treated as “dream” schools, even if your last name is Obama. Whether you’re an above-average student, or an exceptional one, there is simply no great chance at getting accepted to a place like Stanford or Harvard or MIT, period. That’s universal, across the board." So, how do you determine the difference between a reach school and a dream school?

A dream school is one where the student is almost certain not to get accepted. "Reach schools, on the other hand, should include schools where a student has a chance at admission in theory (however narrow)," Jon says. "Outside factors like acceptance rates, the whims of a school in a given year, and other such circumstantial pressures can adversely influence the outcome. In other words, with reach schools, often times students who “should have gotten in,” might not." It may be intimidating to apply for a reach school, but you will feel satisfied that you gave it a shot.

Finalize your list

Now that you have considered all of these things, pre-collegiettes, you are finally ready to cut down the list of colleges you’re interested in into a finalized list of colleges you’ll actually be applying to. After you've locked in your safety, match and reach schools, the sky is the limit!

"Once you have all those boxes checked, then knock yourself out and take a chance at absolutely anywhere," Jon says. "After all, you’re now playing with casino money. What if your story hits the right guy on the right day at the right moment?" The college application process is very individualized. Be smart about your options, but don't feel constrained in how many schools you should or shouldn't be applying to.

Margeaux Biché, a junior at Barnard College, took advantage of applying to as many schools as possible ––both during her senior year in high school and when she decided to transfer after her freshman year. "I applied to 10 colleges my senior year of high school, and then 8 more when I transferred after my freshman year," she says. "I think both of these [numbers] gave me a good spread of safeties and reaches."

Jon recommends to stay level-headed throughout the process. "Do not get hung up on the optics of it all. Yes, reputation matters, but there comes a point where success later in life starts to overtake the relevance of your alma mater," he says. "If you look at any list of people you admire, it’s not made up of exclusively Ivy League grads. Whatever the outcome, preserve your hunger for success at all costs. Let the path be whatever it needs to be, as long as it gets you there."

The looming question of which colleges to apply to is a lot less intimidating when you break down your options into categories, pre-collegiettes. Familiarize yourself with the terms safety, match and reach schools and you’ll be well on your way to success in the college application process. The perfect school for you is out there! It’s just a matter of finding it ––and you don’t have to go through the process alone.

5 Ways to Style Flannels for Fall

When it comes to fall fashion trends, few looks are as perennial as plaid flannel. After all, what’s not to love? There’s just something about classic checks that look so right on an autumn day, and flannel is the perfect level of cozy for when the temperatures have just started to drop. A plaid shirt is insanely versatile too—we’re talking dressed up for a date, dressed down for a weekend afternoon with your BFFs and everything in between. Don’t believe us? These five looks are proof!

1. Date night

Flannels 1

With the right pieces, it’s easy to dress up a flannel button-down you’d normally reserve for day. Start by tucking it into a skirt—we love the look of an edgy, asymmetrical wrap skirt! Add an eye-catching touch that will (literally!) dazzle your bae by wearing a blinged-out statement necklace tucked under your shirt collar. Pointed lace-up heels are elegant for a date night, but a midi heel ensures you’ll actually be able to walk. Put your phone, keys and wallet in a studded clutch, which keeps things from looking too cutesy.

2. Off to class

Flannels 2

For class, you’ll want to be put together but comfortable enough to conquer whatever the day throws at you—which means throwing on an easy flannel dress is definitely in order! Layer a slouchy gray cardigan on top for a cozy autumn layered look. Flat ankle booties are practical for the walk to class but are a stylish step up from sneakers—and every collegiette needs a wear-forever tote for carting around her daily essentials!

3. Fall football game

Flannels 3

Score a flannel in your school’s colors, and you have the perfect look for the first game of the season! Distressed skinny jeans are a stylish alternative to leggings, and combat boots are dressed down enough for a football game. No matter what color flannel you’re wearing, a warm puffer vest with sporty, prepster vibes looks chic on top!

4. Coffee run with the girls

Flannels 4

Rocking a flannel for off-duty wear is as simple as throwing your other go-to weekend pieces into the mix. A neutral black and gray flannel looks cool and effortless with your favorite pair of jeans and an olive utility jacket on top. Go for a little pattern mixing (yes, we went there!) and opt for leopard print flats, which are subtle enough to not clash with your plaid shirt.

5. Night out

Flannels 5

When it comes to looking fab in flannel, don’t limit yourself to the typical button-down! For a night out at a party, a plaid skirt is totally chic in a Cher Horowitz, '90s throwback way. A high mock-neck tank is fall-appropriate, but still allows you to show a little skin—pair it with a moto jacket, and you won’t have to worry about chilly autumn air! Finish the look with peep-toe ankle boots; the chunky heel will allow you to dance all night long!

The bottom line? When it comes to fall wardrobe staples, a flannel shirt (or skirt, or dress!) should be high on your shopping list this season! This is one fall essential we won’t be able to live without!

We Might Be Getting More 'Sex & The City'

Believe it or not, it has actually been six years since we last saw the ladies of Sex and the City on the big screen. Even after all the years that have passed since SATC 2, we still held out hope that the adventures of Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha would continue for as long as possible. Now, Sarah Jessica Parker is fueling the hope that SATC could return to TV at some point.

"I don't think any of us have said no. I don't know whether it's a series or the movie," Sarah Jessica Parker said. "I think that remains an open question and discussion that will continue until it's been resolved. I think that's always a possibility, definitely."

So basically, the door to SATC will never close. If Sarah's statements weren't enough, Willie Garson (aka Stanford) said that none of the cast members would shy away from another SATC chapter. "We honestly don't know," he said. "I know that Sarah and Michael [Patrick King] had at one point had an idea for a story, but we honestly don't know."

"Any time we tease anyone with the possibility, we're just being cheeky!" he added.

As to whether or not he would love to see the series return to the big screen, Willie said he wouldn't hesitate to continue playing Stanford for years. "I would make a hundred of them. I'll be in a walker with a broken hip! But I would keep going."

And even though we all love the show because of the lavish parties and drama, Wiliie believes that the popularity can be attributed to the characters and their relationships with each other. "Whether they know it or not, the show is about connections between people and about love," he said.

"People don't know while they're watching it, because they're focusing on the fancy clothes, and the jokes, and the crazy situations, but really what it's about is human connection," he explained. And we have to agree.

Kate Middleton Loves These Boots So Much, She's Worn Them For 12 Years

Turns out that, besides being a royal duchess, Kate Middleton is just like us—she also splurges on shoes and then wears them out for years and years.

This Monday on the Royal Tour of Canada, per the usual, the Duchess of Cambridge looked effortlessly chic in her classic, laidback preppy outfit. Of course, no style icon could step out in a pair of shoes that wasn’t equally fab, and she did not disappoint choosing a pair of Penelope Chilvers Long Tassel Boots to complete the ensemble.

For Kate Middleton followers, these shoes might look familiar since she wore them earlier this summer on a royal trip to Bhutan. But avid fans of Kate since the beginning might recognize them from way back in 2004, when she was still just dating Prince William.

A French magazine cover from 2004. So flawless.

Are we saying that Kate Middleton been wearing the same pair of boots for twelve years?! Maybe. Chances are she either has a special shoe cobbler who fixes them up or she just bought a new pair sometime over the past 12 years. If anything though, this proves how just timeless her style is. On that note, we're going to need a few hundred to snap these up...

We're Getting Even More of JonBenét Ramsey on TV

2016 marks the 20th year since JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado. Since then, we've yet to find the person responsible for the death of the young pageant girl, but several documentaries released this year have provided even more details to the public regarding the mystery. First, A&E released a two-hour documentary that analyzed the murder and explained all the evidence acquired over the years. Then, CBS aired a two-part docu-series that re-examined the case, titled About the Case of: JonBenét Ramsey. Because America's fascination with the JonBenét case is at its peak this year, Lifetime is also looking to capitalize on the popularity with an upcoming movie.

This November, Lifetime will air a scripted movie titled Who Killed JonBenét? Unlike the previous TV specials from A&E and CBS, this movie will include actors portraying everyone involved in the case, from JonBenét to her parents.

Will we ever find out who killed JonBenét? Probably not, but that doesn't mean we'll stop watching these true crime specials in an effort to answer the question.

There's a lot that Kim Kardashian has on her resume. Her career has come a long way since she helped Paris Hilton organize her closet—and now, she's finally decided what she actually wants to be when she grows up: Turns out, she has dreams of following in her father's footsteps and becoming... a lawyer.

"If things slow down and I had time, I really wanna go to law school—just something I can do in my older age," Kim told Wonderland

Kim also said her "ultimate" plan would be to become a forensic investigator since she has a knack for investigating things (don't we all?). Kim has certainly demonstrated she has a penchant for getting to the bottom of drama. She's used private investigators to check out the goings-on at her store, Dash—and we can't forget the time she unleashed the truth about "Famous." It's not hard to imagine the 35-year-old reality TV star giving a defense of a client, although it's doubtful whether or not she'd be able to use Snapchat on the stand.

Your Complete Guide to Binge-Watching 'The Office'

$

The Office is one of the most revered comedies of all time. Gifs of Michael Scott shouting “BANKRUPTCY” appear in countless viral articles, Jim and Pam are relationship #goals and you’ve probably heard one of your friends make a Dwight Schrute reference at least a few times in your life. The Office is everywhere, and people are still rewatching it to this day—but now it’s your turn.

We can’t believe you’ve made it this far into life without being caned for not watching this show. Lucky for you, we’ve created a handy binge-watching guide, so that you can get stoked for what’s ahead.

While you’ll be laughing 90 percent of each episode, The Office still has time for honest, emotional moments about love, grief and confronting what life throws at you. Anybody who’s watched will tell you the same thing: if there’s any show you take the time to watch in your lifetime, The Office is number one.

How to Watch

NBC, Amazon, Netflix, Google Play

Reasons to Watch

The ensemble cast of The Office is addictive, impossible not to love and the true reason you need to watch this show. You have the hangdog Kevin, scarily authoritarian Angela and possible serial killer Creed, amongst many other unique personalities that make the show consistently hilarious. Their daily workplace struggles and feuds are escalated to ridiculous proportions, usually by their boss Michael Scott or the beet-farming Dwight, both of them as obnoxious and clueless as they are easy to love. The Jim and Pam saga is deeply relatable to anybody who’s ever had a crush on their best friend, and the mix of a dozen strange personalities all working in one office is way too good to miss.

Suggested Rate of Watching

The Office comes in at nine seasons and 201 episodes, but since each episode averages at roughly 20 minutes, the shows goes by incredibly fast. We recommend binging two to three episodes a day—unless you're waaaay too invested and want to do a season a day over Christmas break.

You Will Like This Show if You Like…

Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Friends, Arrested Development, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Best Season

Season two is the best example of classic Office. For the first time, the characters are likable, humorous and deeply endearing. Michael and Dwight are at the top of their game, constantly spitting out weird lines and forming schemes to snort-laugh at, and the romantic tension between Jim and Pam will have you screaming. Season two hands-down holds some of the most memorable episodes, from “Booze Cruise” to “The Dundies.” This is the season of the The Office that gets you hooked and texting your friends every night saying “You HAVE to watch this show!”

Worst Season

Season one is the worst due to the tangible uncomfortability all the characters have with Michael Scott. At this point the humor seems mean-spirited, the characters have no real direction and Michael is out of control, obnoxiously offending as many people as possible in a way that makes him hard to like (despite the fact that he ends up as one of the most likable characters).

You can feel the awkward coming at you in waves. Despite all of the negative, season one still lays important foundations and establishes subtle relationships that would be lost if you skipped directly to season two. Our best advice is to suffer through it, take Michael’s personality with a grain of salt and know that season two gets so much better—it feels like an entirely new show.

A case can be made that seasons eight and nine are equally as terrible because a main character leaves the show, but despite negative hype, know that the incredible cast really holds the bulk of the show and makes it worth watching.

Episodes You Can’t Miss

Season 1, Episode 5:“Basketball”
Season 2, Episode 1:“The Dundies”
Season 2, Episode 7:“The Client”
Season 2, Episode 22:“Casino Night”
Season 3, Episode 1:“Gay Witch Hunt”
Season 3, Episode 8:“The Merger”
Season 3, Episode 22:“Beach Games”
Season 4, Episode 4:“Money”

Season 9, Episode 18:“Promos”
Season 9, Episode 23:“Finale”

Characters You’ll Be Obsessed With

Jim Halpert

Aside from the fact that you’re going to have a fat crush on Jim by the time the first episode ends, his comedic timing is impeccable. Jim is probably one of two people at Dunder Mifflin that isn’t neurotic, so he often looks at the camera vaguely flabbergasted when one of his coworkers is being a psycho. He also takes advantage of his coworkers’ personality shortcomings by coming up with elaborate pranks and lies that frustrate them but are hilarious for us. One time, Jim sent Dwight faxes claiming to be from his future self (which Dwight fell for) and ended up convincing him to throw his phone off a roof. Jim is the best, and we can’t wait for you to love him the way we do.

Dwight Schrute

Even though he’s Jim’s archenemy, it’s hard not to love Dwight. By far the funniest character on the show, Dwight takes his salesman responsibilities at Dunder Mifflin to insane levels, while living as a quasi-Amish beet farmer, and could be described as a fascist nerd. He’s elitist but lacks social skills and common sense. You find yourself rooting for Dwight in all situations because even though he’s clueless, he’s a survivor (literally he has years of training in survival skills) and you can’t help but relate to his weird take on life just a little bit.

Character You Will Equally Love and Hate

Michael Scott

The Office-watchers of the world stand equally divided on their feelings about Michael. Half just cannot with everything about the way he is. Half can see past his loud ignorance and find the sweet man underneath. Yes, he has no filter. He says things that are racist, sexist, homophobic, politically incorrect, and creepy, and lacks civility. ~But~ Michael desperately seeks approval and genuinely wants to develop friendships and be the best boss he can be. He just has no idea how, which is why he seems more like the world’s worst boss than the best boss. Underneath his demeaning behavior, Michael is a real person with a very evident human need for acceptance, and his love for his employees is unmatched.

Couples You Will Be Shipping

Jim and Pam

If you’ve heard anything at all about The Office, it’s probably about Jim and Pam. From their sweet, secret glances and bonding moments over office pranks, you will be desperately praying that these two get together.

Michael and Holly

A good chunk of this show is watching Michael painfully fail in his interactions with the female species, so when the mutually weird Holly comes into his life, it will be a breath of fresh air to find someone who you think goes with him so perfectly.

Ryan and Kelly

They love to hate each other, but you can’t deny that Kelly and Ryan belong together. Ryan is a business school tool, and Kelly is that obsessive girlfriend type you would usually be scared to date, but the combination of the two is perfect and hilarious.

Terminology You Need to Know

Dunder Mifflin— The paper company at which all of the characters work.

Scranton— A Pennsylvania town where the show takes place.

Dundies — A special award given by Michael Scott to Dunder Mifflin employees during a reception that takes place at Chili's.

Best Guest Stars

Amy Adams, Ricky Gervais, Will Arnett, Ray Romano, Jim Carrey, Stephen Colbert, Josh Groban, Joan Cusack and Will Ferrell are just some of the stars that appear on The Office, but James Spader’s character, who has a longer stint on the show, is truly the one to watch.

Spader plays Robert California through seasons seven and eight, and while you might be equally horrified and intimidated by the baffling things that come out of his mouth, you’ll be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what odd thing he does next.

Most Memorable Quotes

“I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.” — Michael

“Through concentration, I can raise and lower my cholesterol at will.” — Dwight

“Beets. Bears. Battlestar Galactica.” — Jim

“Dwight! You ignorant slut!” — Michael

“There is a master key and a spare key for the office. Dwight has them both. When I asked, ‘What if you die, Dwight? How will we get into the office?’ he said, ‘If I'm dead, you guys have been dead for weeks.’” — Pam

“The worst thing about prison was the Dementors.” — Michael

“Not enough for me? You are everything.” — Jim

“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you actually left them.” — Andy

What to Do When You’re Done Watching

Your immediate reaction will be to have your mom hug you until you’re done crying and then to stare at a wall anxiously until you feel ready to move on from this chapter of your life. Once you’re a person again, it’s actually pretty common to rewatch the show right after and feed your wounds, but it also wouldn’t hurt to move on to another show like 30 Rock or Parks and Rec that has equally lovable characters.

While you’re at it, make sure to follow Office cast members like Rainn Wilson, Mindy Kaling, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey because they tend to post nostalgic photos from the series and all still hang out with each other. This show will be one of the best chapters of your life, so make sure to spread the love and pass it on to a friend.

Courteney Cox Stands Up For Jennifer Aniston Amid Brangelina Drama

Last week, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her longtime partner and husband of two years Brad Pitt. If you know your pop culture history, you likely know that Brangelina stirred up quite a bit of drama when they first became interested in one another. At the time, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston.

Since then, some fans of Jennifer and Brad have been holding out for a reunion between the two, and whenever media attention was given to Brangelina, Aniston was somehow always dragged into the story, too.

Courteney Cox, who has been friends (wink wink) with Aniston for years, gave her take on the news of Brangelina's breakup, as well as the unnecessary inclusion of Aniston in the headlines, in a recent red carpet rendezvous with ET. “I feel like we’re exacerbating it by even talking about it,” Cox responded after being asked about the story. “It’s not about her,” she added.

Short and sweet—and that’s all that needs to be said. It’s not about her. Aniston has moved on, and we need to stop perpetuating the narrative that she’s hung up on her ex from over a decade ago.

If Aniston hasn’t given her opinion on the matter, it’s time we stop speculating about how she’s doing or how she’s feeling. Expecting celebrities to either share their entire personal lives with us or feel the way we expect them to is unrealistic, unfair and unkind.

Aniston has shared thoughts of her own on the better things that the media could be doing than focusing on the implosion of real people’s personal lives. We hope Aniston continues to stay above the fray. Exes are so last year. Friends are better anyway!

4 Extracurriculars That Will Boost Your Resume

Your semester is just starting, or maybe you're already back into the groove of being back at school. While the first couple weeks of classes may have been a little rough, you finally feel like you have academics under control, and now you’re able to focus on some awesome on-campus activities.

While your main priority at school may be your academics, some of the best parts of college are all of the wonderful extracurriculars you can get involved in! Not only do they give you something else to do besides homework, but on-campus activities can also help you professionally. Whether it’s a couple of academic activities or a service club, being involved on campus gives your resume some personality and substance. Plus, activities can round out your skill set outside the classroom, which is something you always want to highlight. Here are some clubs and groups we suggest you get involved in to boost your resume!

1. Activities related to your major

What better way to complement your academics than with an activity that incorporates your major? There are a lot of clubs on campus that combine what you learn in class with opportunities to explore possible career options.

“A lot of campus clubs are related to career interests; for example, an accounting club,” says Nayelli Perez, career counselor and assistant director of Hofstra University’s career center. “Being a member of [these] campus clubs not only provides … opportunities to meet other students with similar interests, but also provides a chance to meet alumni or employers in the field.”

Future employers will be impressed that you’ve pursued your career interests outside of the classroom as well as the practical skills you’ve gained from them. “Consider what activities will provide you with a chance to expand skills important to the types of jobs you will pursue,” says Tom Dezell, career advisor and author of Networking for the Novice, Nervous, or Naïve Job Seeker. “For example, if you are pursing media work, try to help the university radio station. Should you see yourself working in roles where communication skills are important, join activities that will require you to make speeches or write.”

Additionally, ask your professors if there are any professional associations you can join through your major. Most fields have regional or national associations (like the Public Relations Student Society of America or The American Society of Civil Engineers) that have chapters at many universities.

“[Professional associations] allow students to immediately establish a network of professionals … as well as possibly forming mentorship relationships,” Dezell says.

Most students can join professional organizations at a discounted price and then can attend lectures from prominent speakers in the field or participate in networking events. “It’s a win-win situation,” Dezell says. “Students get to realize the benefits of an association membership early, [which] makes them more likely to remain active as their career progresses.”

No matter what your major is, consider pursing activities related to it outside of the classroom. You can learn more about your potential career field and gain some experience!

2. Clubs you’ve founded

While your school might have a large repertoire of clubs to join, there’s always a chance that it doesn’t offer what you’re truly interested in. Quick fix? Create a new club yourself!

“A unique activity that could help boost your resume could be starting a new campus club that covers a topic of interest to the campus,” Perez says. “Then, on your resume, you could add that you were the founder of the club, which is pretty impressive.”

Inventing a new club shows employers that you can take initiative. “Any activity that reflects growth and accomplishments is impressive,” says Nancy Dudak, the executive director of Villanova University’s Career Center. “The good news is that not all activities need to be career- or professionally related. Growing an organization is impressive.”

Do you and your friends love trying new Pinterest recipes? Start a baking club! Have you read all the Harry Potter books and wish your school was more like Hogwarts? Consider forming a Quidditch team (played on foot, not flying brooms)!

“Students that want to found a new club should to go their campus’s student activities office to ask how they can make that happen,” Perez says. “The important thing to know is that starting a new club on campus is doable, worthwhile, but also a process.”

While every school is different, you’ll most likely have to create a petition of students interested, describe the objectives or goals of the club and possibly outline a budget. Most clubs also require a faculty adviser, so make sure you contact someone early on who’s willing to put in extra time to help your club grow.

The best part is that starting a new club shows off your awesome personality. “It makes you interesting!” Dudak says. “Aligning yourself with an organization that is wrapped around an interest or hobby further develops this interest and fills you with energy.” Your new activity will make you happy and boost your resume in awesome ways!

3. Organizations you lead

One of the main benefits of being involved in on-campus activities is the set of skills you develop from them. “No matter what career path [you] choose, landing a job will require [you] to show skills and abilities beyond academics,” Dezell says. And one of the most common skills employers look for across the board is leadership.

“Leadership positions are very important to highlight on a resume because employers view them as predictors of future behavior,” Dudak says.  “If you are a leader in your current environment, it's likely that you will continue to seek leadership opportunities. The great thing is that these leadership experiences can be found in any number of places—student organizations, class projects, service projects, at jobs and internships.”

Not sure how to gain a leadership position? “Try to join at least one or two campus clubs as early as possibly in your college career,” Perez suggests. “The sooner you start, the more time you have to make an impact … and have a shot of making it to its [executive board.]”

Become an active member of your club by participating in discussions, volunteering to help at events or fundraisers and just putting 100 percent into whatever task you’re given. The executive board will remember your hard work and dedication, which can help you land a leadership position later on. Leadership can help you in any career, so take advantage of leadership opportunities while you’re in college!

4. Service groups

Another way to contribute to a stellar resume is getting involved in service activities. Giving back and getting involved in your community is always a way to impress your future employers.

“Service to your community demonstrates your interest in improving, that your world is bigger than your immediate circle,” Dudak says. “That’s very impressive [to employers].”

Depending on what field you’re considering, service can also potentially seal the deal for a job or internship. Kathleen Welch, a senior at the University of Delaware, landed an internship partly because of her service experience. “I had a phone interview with a nonprofit organization, and they asked me specifically about my involvement with Habitat for Humanity,” Kathleen says. “The employers were impressed by my experiences and said I would fit well with their company’s mission. I got the internship shortly after.”

Besides nonprofit organizations, service can be beneficial for a number of other careers and companies. “There are plenty of opportunities to tie your career interests to specific service projects,” Dudak says. “[For example], an education student could work with children or youth, an accounting student could assist with pro bono tax returns, a political science student could support a city project.”

To make your service activities stand out on your resume, add some extra details about your experience. “Beyond just listing the groups by name, try to include numbers that reflect the size and scope of the activity,” Dezell says. “Some examples [may include] people served, funds raised [and] outreach.”

While community service helps others and makes you feel good, it can also be an asset to your resume!

Whether you’re interested in learning more about your major through an academic club or trying something new in a unique organization, on-campus activities can strengthen your resume and make you stand out to employers. No matter what you like to do with your free time, go out and get involved!

Mindy Kaling Has Written The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Follow-Up You’ve Been Waiting For

Mindy Kaling is writing and starring in a new movie described as “The Devil Wears Prada meets Broadcast News,” according to HelloGiggles! Could we ask for anything better?

Reports say that, though the movie is untitled and has not been picked up by a film studio yet, Emma Thompson of Harry Potter and Love Actually will co-star. If the rumors are true, Thompson will be the Miranda Priestly to Kaling’s Andy Sachs!

Variety was the first to report on the story and found out that Thompson plays the host of a late-night talk show (yay for female representation!) “who’s in danger of losing her long-running show right when she hires her first female writer, played by Kaling.”

Wow. We already know this is not going to disappoint. It sounds like the perfect comedic exposé of women in the entertainment industry. Kaling herself seemed to confirm the story in a tweet this morning, sharing four hearts along with a link to the Variety story.

It appears mum’s the word for now, but if we know Mindy Kaling, we are sure this is going to be an instant hit.

You Have to Watch This Heartbreaking Speech From a 9-Year-Old Girl in Charlotte

Tensions rose on Monday during Charlotte’s first city council meeting since the shooting of Kieth Lamont Scott, with over 50 furious citizens protesting police brutality in the city.

In between the shouts of “Hands Down! Shoot Back!” and “No Justice, No Peace!” a 9-year-old girl named Zianna Oliphant stood in tears, according to the Charlotte Observer

During her turn at the podium, the young Charlotte native scolded the city leaders in her emotional plea for justice.

“I’ve been born and raised in Charlotte. And I never felt this way until now and I can’t stand how we’re treated,” Zianna said.

She struggled through tears to express the awfulness of being treated differently due to skin color, and the tragedy of so many children losing their parents to violence.

“It’s a shame that we have to go to their graveyard and bury them. And we have tears. We shouldn’t have tears. We need our fathers and mothers to be by our side,” she said.

Someone Circulated White Supremacist Posters at the University of Michigan

$

University of Michigan students woke up Monday to find racist posters all over their campus walls.

According to Mic, the Black Student Union and other students at the University of Michigan posted pictures of the anti-black flyers on Facebook and Twitter.

One of the posters is an article titled “Why Woman Shouldn’t Date Black Men.” The other demands that European Americans stop “denying their heritage.”

The posters, allegedly created by the "Alt-Right," are full of false statistics claiming black people are less intelligent than white people and have higher rates of abuse.

Shortly after the flyers were discovered, the university issued a statement from several administrators condemning the posters.

“Messages of racial, ethnic or religious discrimination have no place at the University of Michigan,” the statement said. "Targeted attacks against groups of people serve only to tear apart our university community."

The posters were promptly removed from the academic buildings Haven and Macon Halls.

Later in the day students posted photos of another flyer called "Race and Intelligence," according to USA Today College. The flyer again reinforced the idea that white people are more intelligent than black people—a claim that's been widely debunked by scientists, by the way.

In addition to just being plain wrong, these posters use statistics to justify “age-old white supremacist fears...that have lasted since slavery,” Mathew Rodriguez of Mic writes. Long story short, these posters are gross and racism will never be justified. According to UM students, they have no place on their college campus.
