9 Things to Do at a Potential College's Overnight Stay

Taking part in a “Sleeping Bag Weekend" -- an overnight stay at a potential college, often with a current student --  is a beyond-amazing way to see if a school is the right fit for you. Make sure you know what to look for and the questions to ask to make the most of your time on campus.

1. Get to know the student body

Getting a feel for the student body at a university is just as important as checking out the dining halls or facilities. Is there a lot of diversity at the school? Do the students seem friendly and helpful?

“You want to make sure that you feel comfortable with a school before you decide to go there,” says Rachel Petty, a junior at James Madison University. “There's no better way to do that than to interact with students around campus.”

The first step to interacting with the student body is to be set up with a current student for the overnight stay. If you already know someone that attends the school, like a friend, family friend or neighbor, ask if you can crash in their dorm for a weekend to see what the school is like. Getting in touch with a campus representative first is necessary because they can oftentimes set you up with free dining hall passes, a university goodie bag and other necessary items such as an official campus map and a calendar of events for the weekend. If you don’t already know someone, contact a campus representative and ask to be set up with a current student. You can also check the university website to see if there is an official accepted students weekend and what dates they offer.

Now that you know how to actually take part in an overnight weekend, focus on meeting the student body! First, think about what majors you may be interested in.

“We recommend applicants seek out under and upperclassmen pursuing different majors," David Petersam, president of AdmissonsConsultants. "Sitting in on classes is recommended and finding students in intended majors is very important."

If you’re sleeping over with a current student, ask to meet her friends. If you are going to be on a sports team, try to connect with a couple of the athletes on the team.

Remember, current students can be the best people to ask your questions to. “We advise  our clients to come up a list of what is important before they visit the campus," says Petersam. "The written checklist is important. We always recommend talking to many different students as the questions asked should be subjective and answers will vary depending on who you ask.”

If you hit it off with someone, following them on Twitter or other social media is a great way to stay connected. It’s great to have at least one familiar face on a campus of strangers during the first week!

2. Check out the dining halls

In no way should a dining hall make or break your decision to attend a certain university, but you’re going to be living off this food for the next four years; believe us, you at least want to make sure it’s edible.

According to Rachel, checking out the dining facilities around campus is an absolute must during an overnight stay. And, there are many things to consider. Does the cafeteria offer healthy options, or is it basically just pizza and burgers? (In other words, exactly how fast are you going to get that Freshman 15?) Is there just one dining hall on campus or multiple?  Checking whether  the school provides food that accommodates your diet, should you be vegan, vegetarian or have severe food allergies, is also extremely important.

Alaina Marie Leary, a graduate student at Emerson College, did not originally look into her campus’s dining hall during her visit, and ended up deeply regretting it. “As someone who doesn't eat meat, I should have checked into what sort of items were typically served on the day-to-day at the campus, rather than relying on the food that was presented during an official tour, or what tour guides have to tell you," she says.

Beyond that, make sure you ask about the available meal plans. What are the hours of the dining hall? If you have class in the morning and work in the afternoon, are you going to miss lunch hours? The school’s website, a campus tour guide or a representative from the school or dining hall will have all of this information ready for you!

3. See where you’ll be living

Dorms are kind of like dining halls—they shouldn’t necessarily be the deciding factor of which college you go to, but you are going to have to live with it (or in this case in it) for the next couple of years.

Check what kinds of dorms the school offers. Do they just have doubles? Triples? Do any have their own private bathrooms? Are there apartment complexes or university-owned houses you can rent?  If you are an incoming freshman, you probably will be in a typical double dorm with a communal bathroom somewhere on your floor.

Alaina recommends thoroughly examining the dorms if you are going to be living on campus. “It's great to get a feel for where things are before you choose where to live," she adds. "You might realize that one of the dorms has better lighting, or that one is right next to a current construction site, and that will help you make your decision.”

If you take part in an official sleepover weekend where they place you with a student or in an empty dorm, realize that they may purposefully be showing you a nicer or more updated residence hall. Make sure to take a look at the older residence halls (because that’s usually where they stick the freshmen!).

Brianna Susnak, a sophomore at Indiana University, adds that your host may also be able to show you more types of rooms. “Ask to visit their friends in different residence halls,” she says. “Plus, they may even be able to show you the buildings they have classes in depending on the time of day!”

Remember, your housing options will change over the course of your four years. Many schools require that you live on campus for at least one to two years. After that, you are free to move off campus -- or even be required to! Many will move into an apartment or house with a group of friends. Securing off-campus housing can be a very easy process and is something that can drastically reduce your cost of school.

4. Show some early school spirit

During your short sleepover weekend, immersing yourself in the college experience is one of the best things you can do. “When it comes to overnight stays at colleges, definitely maximize your time as much as you can,” says Brianna. “Ask the person you're staying with to show you their favorite restaurants to eat at, or go to an athletic event, game, concert or show that interests you.”

By showing some school spirit and experiencing all the activities campus has to offer that weekend, you will get a great idea of what campus life will be like. Keep in mind that every school is completely different. If it’s a Division I or pretty large school, the campus activities and sporting games will probably be packed. If it’s a Division III or small private school, sports may not be a huge focus. Experiencing all these things during your overnight stay is a great way to figure this out, but remember that there’s always a way to get involved on campus!

5. See what resources the school offers

Taking time to thoroughly check out the facilities at your potential school is absolutely crucial during your overnight stay. Definitely don’t leave it until move-in day!

If you know what your major is ahead of time, start with that department. Don’t just take look around, though. Ask around and learn whether the department has updated technology such as computers, iPads or tablets. Also see what kinds of services they provide. For example, if you are an English major, does the school have a writing workshop, peer review office or student editors that can look over your work? And if you’re the type of person who can’t study in your room, don’t forget to check out the library! Many often have private study rooms or quiet rooms to take advantage of.

Other  important facilities to take a look at are the gym, student union and the campus chapel or religious center. Does the university offer work out classes that would interest you such as Zumba, yoga or cycling? Does the student union or student center seem like a fun, relaxing and inviting environment? Does the university hold religious services that you require? Remember, this could potentially be your home for the next four years -- checking to see if it has an abundance of resources is absolutely necessary!

6. Find out the school’s quirks and oddities

Some of the best things about colleges are the weird traditions, quirks and oddities upheld by the student body. At some schools, there are underground tunnels you can explore. At others, it’s a campus rule to never step on the university seal while walking to class.

Not only can they make the college experience fun and memorable (and asking a current student about all of them can get you so excited for college), but learning about the do’s and don’ts of your potential school ahead of time can prevent you from looking like a total freshman when you move to campus. Is wearing your lanyard around your neck a total no? Do students never walk across the quad to class? Make sure you get the scoop!

7. Get familiar with campus

Having a firm grasp of your way around campus is absolutely necessary before going to school. Taking advantage of an overnight stay is the perfect time to master your mental campus map (you will also be that freshman if you walk around the first day with a map of the school).

“If in doubt, just ask [your host] to walk around campus with you and point various things out!” says Brianna. “When I was going on overnight stays, I was surprised just how much I learned by walking around and talking with a current student.”

While you are familiarizing yourself with campus, make sure you are also committing to memory which academic building is which (you will have classes in more buildings than just the one pertaining to your major!) and where the dining and residence halls are as well as sports facilities and the gyms. Also make sure you are able to find your way around campus from more than just your host’s room—college campuses can get confusing!

8. Explore (a little) off campus

As much as you’ll be absolutely loving life on campus next fall, remember that at times, you’re going to want to get out. An overnight stay is the perfect time to take a glance at the city or town the potential college resides in, as well as to ask yourself whether you could have a fun time there, find things to do and most importantly, whether you feel safe.

Alaina adds that if you’re planning on spending time off campus, be sure you know how you can get around.

“If they can, [students] should take a look at what is in town where they'll be going to school, and what public transport is like, especially if they aren't planning to bring a car with them," she says. "Schools in really large cities typically have great transport and easy access to great activities off campus, but schools in small towns don't always have this, and it's good to know.”

She continues, “I went to undergrad in a small town and I had to take two buses just to get to the mall, and it took over an hour. That's something I wish I had looked into, not that it would have changed my decision.”

If you don’t want to spend too much time away from campus during your overnight stay, a convenient time to take a quick look around is during the journey to and from the school. Even if you just stay in the car, you’ll get a glimpse of what the surrounding area has to offer!

9. Ask about the logistics

So you’ve looked at all the fun and exciting parts of campus. Now it’s time to talk about the logistics. Make sure you touch upon very important aspects of college admissions with a campus representative.

“Questions too many applicants overlook involve entry or exit hurdles," says Petersam. "Is it easy or difficult to get admitted to a particular major/school? How many [name of group, but often times pre-med] start the program but aren’t able to complete it? What are the reasons that some can complete the program but others can’t?”

Other important questions to consider and ask include not just what the university can give to you during your four years, but also what it can provide you beyond your time as a student. “A lot of parents in this current economic climate are pressing their applicants to learn about career services and employer perceptions of the school and its students,” adds Petersam.

Have a whole laundry list of questions? Petersam advises heading online! “The time on campus is too precious to be wasted,” he warns. Many answers to your questions can easily be found online or with a quick call to the university. For example, gender ratios, admission requirements, and statistics on graduation and job placement.

For most, an overnight visit is the first look at what college is really like. Make sure you take the time to really see what that particular college is going to be like before you commit!

7 People Your Friends Turn Into After College

$

The transition from college to the real world can be extremely difficult, especially when it comes to maintaining relationships with friends. You’ll go months without seeing one another before suddenly realizing that everything and everyone is different, and you don’t even know how that happened! Read on to prepare yourself for the type of people your friends become after college

1. The workaholic

This friend has an amazing job and is totally focused on making her way to the top. When she’s not working super late hours, you can find her at home with a glass of wine... still doing work. We love that she’s so career driven and ambitious, but it would it kill her to relax every once in a while?

2. The disappearing act

Have you seen this girl? She used hang out with you all the time and always texted her friends back, but now, you can't even remember the last time you heard from her. This is the girl who has gone completely MIA, whether it’s due to a new job or relationship. You’ve basically done everything short of sending a carrier pigeon to track her down.

3. The grandma

She was the life of the party. The one encouraging you to drunk text your ex. The one who never missed a night out. She now stays in every weekend with a book and glass of wine. Who is this girl? We feel like we don’t even know her anymore.

4. The jetsetter

This girl is basically living the ‘eat, pray, love’ life. Her Insta feed is filled with photos of her world travels, and you wish the two of you could switch places for a bit. After all, you too want to ride on Vespas and eat gelato until you’re sick.

5. The ‘go hard or go homer’

She hasn’t changed much since her college days, other than the fact that she parties even more. It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is; you’ll find this girl ripping shots at the bar or dancing in the club like it’s the first week of class. You can always count on her for a good time.

6. The Med/Law/Grad student

Every time you see this girl, her face is shoved into a book and she’s usually… (ok she’s always) over-caffeinated.

7. The marriage-obsessed

You always knew she’d be the first from your friend group to get hitched, so it’s no shocker that this friend is ready to settle down and have babies. And lots of them.

So there you have it—say hello to your new friend group! They may seem a little different than what you remember from your college days, but life in the real world is a time for reinvention and change. At the end of the day, though, as soon as you're back with your squad (even though it might take some effort to pull #3 out of the house!), it'll be like nothing even changed.

15 'Gossip Girl' Looks To Inspire Your Fall Style

We can always trust the ladies of the UES to bring life back into our wardrobes when we’re in a rut. And with a change of season right around the corner, why not let Blair, Serena and the rest of the gang inspire our fall style with these 15 looks?

1. Summer lovin’

If you’re not ready to ditch your brightly printed sundresses just yet, a lightweight coat can accent your summer sheaths quite nicely.

2. Sweater weather

Keep your fuzzy knits in storage. Breathable sweaters and flippy minis are the way to go instead.

3. All about autumn

All our fall wardrobe must-haves—an olive green jacket, riding boots, scarves galore… the list goes on—are rolled into this one ensemble. Would Queen B let it slide if we chose to swap those black pants out for a stretchy pair of leggings? Probably not, but we’ve got to take advantage of this college excuse as long as we can.

4. Trench please

We never much cared for Sage, but that trench coat is a whole other story. Three words. Eight letters. We’re yours.

5. A matchy-matchy masterpiece

Sometimes all you need is a simple yet show-stopping dress. Blair’s monochromatic palette gives this look an infusion of sophistication that’s easy to replicate.

6. Spotted: the blazer of our dreams

No fall wardrobe is complete without a killer blazer. Serena had some trouble holding down a job, but this internship-ready outfit is on point.

7. All the leather

Vanessa’s inclination for earth tones should make her an expert at this whole dressing for fall thing. We applaud her leather leggings, booties, and tunic combo, but V will forever remain on our GG blacklist. Sorry, not sorry.

8. Tights are not pants…

...but they work awfully well when you’re trying to cover up your legs while wearing a cute tweed skirt.

9. Smooth transition

In a move smarter than marrying Gossip Girl himself, S pairs high-waisted pastel pants with a barely-there tank. We xoxo it, too!

10. Tee-rific

Forget Little J’s spiral for a moment and appreciate her layering genius. Excuse us as we try to figure out how to pull this off as effortlessly as the former Brooklyn babe.

11. You know you love sleeves

Individuals with information as to how we can locate a cape as mind-blowingly chic as Serena’s should contact us immediately.

12. Denim does exist

We really heart denim, but jeans are few and far between on the Upper East Side. Leave it to wild child SVDW to mix things up and trigger major outfit envy.

13. Best dressed

When you’re searching for new fall finds, a few can’t-live-without-‘em dresses become inevitable buys. If sleeveless sheaths with short hemlines are not realistic for your climate, try topping them with a cardigan or jacket like B’s. We may have solved that problem, but the money you spent shopping is definitely still gone.

14. The short of it

Current mood: wondering why we didn’t think of pairing shorts with thick tights and a structured blazer before. We're obsessed with this entire menswear-inspired look!

15. Winter is coming

Well, all else has failed and it’s cold enough to break out your coat. Though that beanie is not exactly for warmth’s sake and pants would probably be useful right about now, we refuse to succumb to winter until we absolutely have to.

Which of these looks inspires your fall style, collegiettes?

9 Situations Only People Who Suppress Their Feelings Can Relate To

$

Those who suppress their feelings are no strangers to regret about things left unsaid. The amount of reasons you lock up your genuine emotions are endless. It's not that you care about protecting your feelings—you simply choose to hold it all in until you explode. After all, if you don't acknowledge there's a problem, does it even exist?

1. When you sit through a sad movie without shedding a tear

It may be hard, but the ability to keep all those emotions under wraps is a testament to your true strength. To some, you may come off as "heartless," but you're just willing yourself to stay strong. The feels you experience are very real. Nobody can keep a straight face the way you do.

2. Getting stuck with lazy people during a group project

So many things you'd like to say, so many emotions (mainly anger) you choose not to express. You're secretly afraid you may actually lose it during your presentation.

3. You pretend not to care about the dicussion when those around you are in a heated debate on a controversial topic

Everyone thinks you're as cool as a cucumber. But really, you've got some pretty strong opinions In your head. You know there is a right or wrong side to take. Obviously, your view on the matter is the correct one, but you won't ever say it.

4. When your friend does or says something offensive, you won't admit it bothered you

Rest assured, a grudge will be formed. That grudge will likely be held until the end of eternity.

5. Having those days when everyone from the waiter at a restaurant to that person sharpening their pencil for too long easily gets on your nerves

You're seething on the inside. But nobody will know because outward frustration leads to questioning and questioning leads to talking about the feelings you've worked so hard to squash.

6. "I'm fine" is the only answer people will get when they ask if anything is bothering you

If I don't acknowledge my ill feelings, they don't exist. So, there's no problem. Right?!

7. Your crush likely has no clue the way you feel about them

And they likely never will. Your subtle "I will show no emotion or signs of caring about you and your life" game is too strong.

8. When you witness your friend making a bad decision but you refuse to shake sense into them

You couldn't care less on the outside. Yet, you're screaming internally. You convince everyone you couldn't care less in order to avoid stirring the pot. You don't want people to think you actually do care.

9. That overwhelming desire to curl up in a ball and cry upon receiving a bad grade

As Cameron Diaz from The Other Woman once said, "Cry on the inside like a winner." Preach girl, preach.

When life gets hard, you know the best thing to do is to set all those feelings and emotions free. But the reality of what you actually do is totally different. Just get in the breakdown lane and cry about it—on the inside, of course.

Leslie Jones Just Brought Her Twitter Drama to the Emmys

Leslie Jones just brought her Twitter drama to the Emmys—in hilarious fashion, of course. As they do every year, the boring accountants of Ernst & Young took the stage to tout their high-security methods of selecting and protecting the Emmy results. That's when SNL funny-lady Jones stepped in to rail on the guys for guarding something that no one cares about stealing, rather than, say, her Twitter account and nude photos.

She demanded that they use their skills to put her Twitter—which, as many know, has been the source of much unnecessary and downright cruel cyberbullying for the comedian—in the vault. As she put it, "Y'all over here using your skills to protect 'Best Voiceover in a French Sitcom.' Meanwhile, I'm butt naked on CNN."

While we know Leslie's bit was meant to give us major laughs (it totally did, btw), nothing was better than the fantastic point she made in closing. "I just wanted to feel beautiful, y'all. Can't a sister feel beautiful?"

Um, YES, Leslie! You have every right to feel beautiful, as does any woman. You keep doing you, and we'll keep following your lead!

Beyoncé Was Snubbed At The Emmys & We Are Not Okay

Anyone (literally everyone, right?) expecting Beyoncé to take home her first Emmy with ease tonight was probably Kanye levels of disappointed.

Bey was nominated in the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special category, along with Kahlil Joseph, for her HBO special, Lemonade. The very day we found out Queen B had been nominated, we just knew she would wow us on the red carpet, deliver a jaw-dropping surprise performance of some kind and sweep the Emmys stage, collecting her prize with no trouble at all. But that's not quite how it went down.

Not only was Beyoncé a no-show for the awards ceremony, but she lost out in her category to Grease: Live. Don't get us wrong: we are just as obsessed with Grease: Live as the Emmy voters, but come on. Snubbing Bey is unfathomable in this day and age. It looks like B will have to work a little harder if she wants to earn that EGOT.

Being the Blair Waldorf of your friend group can either sound like a bad thing or the greatest honor of your life. Because let's face it, she's the heart of Gossip Girl. She caused the most drama, solved the most drama and best of all, got Chuck Bass in the end. What makes you the Blair of your friend group? These 17 reasons should make it quite clear!

1. No one would really use the words "kind" or "nice" to describe you.

3. You don't talk behind people's backs because you say whatever you want to their face.

4. People usually know better than to mess with you.

6. Your friends look to you for fashion advice

7. You accomplish the goals you set for yourself.

8. You don't let emotions control you.

12. You understand that sometimes white lies aren't a bad thing.

13. You're a natural born leader.

14. You would die for your own Dorota.

15. People can be intimidated by you just from "that look" you have.

And maybe you're a little scary, too.

16. Shopping fixes (almost) all of your problems.

17. You fall head over heels when you hear those three words...

How She Got There: Sterling McDavid, CEO/Founder of The Starling Project

Name: Sterling McDavid
Age: 27
Job Title: CEO/Founder of The Starling Project
College/Major: The University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business, BBA Finance; Parsons School of Design, AAS Interior Design
Website:www.starlingproject.org
Instagram Handle:@starlingproject and @sterlingmcdavid

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Sterling McDavid: I wouldn’t say there’s a typical day at all. A couple of my days throughout the week are spent with UNICEF, which is who the Starling Project has given $100,000 to so far. I am also the chair of National Development for UNICEF Next Generation, which is targeted at people ages 21-40 looking to give back. My passion is UNICEF. I love it and what they do for children. I love that they give back more cents on the dollar than other organizations, so I spend a lot of time learning and working with them—helping spread the word, organizing events. Of course, in addition to that, working with The Starling Project. Another day could be mixing scents with my manufacturer and getting inspired. It can be anything and everything.

What inspired you to leave your finance job and go into interior design?

SM: I started my career in finance at Goldman Sachs in New York. I was inspired to leave after attending a field visit in Vietnam working for UNICEF. I thought if I could do something that mixes my technical skills and finance with more creativity and come up with something along the lines of Toms, that would really be a dream for me. I started to look into things and I applied to Parson’s, and I fell into interior design. You might think, "Why interior design?" Well, I also had a focus in architecture and product design, and things like that are in the same program. It’s design on a larger scale. I ended up working for an architecture firm in Paris. Paris is well-renowned for their candles and perfumes, so I got inspired while living there to create this sort of product line that was going to give back. That was really obvious for me. It was a simple idea, but it really married business and creativity with a giving back component that I was seeking from the beginning. I already had a passion for solar energy, so it all made sense.

What is the best part of your job?

SM: I think it’s just fulfilling giving back—even providing other people the opportunity to give back. A lot of people want to help out, like students or those on limited salaries who can’t write a large check, and giving them the chance to do so is a great feeling.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

SM: Everyone makes mistakes along the way. I don’t think there’s a great way to grow without them. But there were a few times that I wanted to rush into things when I had other ideas. I tried to start on those without doing any research; however, with this one, I was prepared and made sure people were inspired by The Starling Project, wanted to purchase candles, and more. I’ve learned a lot through my career. It’s been very unique, from finance to architecture and design is a very different path to go, but I think you learn from the mistakes you make. I’ve always looked at mistakes as stepping stones to the future because I don’t think [whoever has] been successful [has] gotten there by the snap of a finger.

How do you manage your interior design practice while running The Starling Project?

SM: Firstly, I’m a total go-getter. I like to be busy. I often am working 15-16 hour days. It’s completely different when you wake up and love what you’re doing. In some ways, I don’t feel what I'm doing is working. It’s all about breaking up what you do. I have a set schedule every week, but I also encourage anyone to call me at any time so that I can be available to help.

What advice would you offer to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

SM: Never be afraid to go for it. I genuinely think people who have dreams can accomplish them with work. I love this saying so much: the harder I work, the luckier I get. I truly believe that luck isn’t a thing. I think people who work really hard accomplish what they want to. That being said, I don’t think it’s easy and I would never say that, but I would tell 20-somethings to remember that mistakes are okay—learn from them. Pick yourself up and don’t get discouraged, but get excited because you learned something that will make you better later on.

23 Times Chuck & Blair Were the Best-Dressed Couple EVER

$

Prepare to feel really old—it’s been eight years since Gossip Girl premiered, coming into our lives and forever making them better. The show that gave us Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass also provided some of the greatest style moments in TV history, many of which were thanks to the OTP. Though it was hard to narrow down, we’ve picked 23 of our favorite ensembles from the duo to prove Chuck and Blair were by far the best-dressed couple EVER.

1. Masters of the uniform

Nobody quite does uniforms like C and B. They got it right time and time again in their Constance and St. Jude’s duds, which was the first indicator that their style would be on point for years to come.

2. In the trenches

Before these two were even a legit couple, they were taking wardrobe tips from each other.

3. Matching is key

Let us make one thing clear: Chuck and Blair were always at their best when wearing matching outfits. These green ensembles from the show’s season 2 Hamptons tenure set the precedent for what would become GG fashion law.

4. Cotillion

Keeping their as-yet-undefined relationship under wraps at Cotillion, we were elated seeing Chuck and Blair step out at a formal affair together for the first time. It’s really B’s bow-shouldered silver gown that shines here, with Chuck’s attire selflessly playing second fiddle to amp up their overall look.

5. White party

Who could forget the White Party? Certainly not us! These outfits may be etched in our memories because of the all-important three words, eight letters conversation, but that doesn’t make them any less scene-stealing on their own.

6. Always bring peonies

Chuck just told Blair he loves her! Chuck just told Blair he loves her! Okay, we’re getting a bit distracted. But aren’t these looks just as flawless as this moment?

7. Summer lovin’

New coupledom looked swell on Chuck and Blair, are we right? Starting out a love-filled season three on a high note, this moment cemented that the duo’s style is even better together.

8. Power couple

We have basically the same feelings about this as we do about #7. Probably because it’s from the same episode. We just couldn’t choose.

9. Polo match

On any other people, these colors might look completely ridiculous. But not on fashion risk-takers like Bass and Waldorf. Confession: this is indeed from the same episode as #7 and #8. What can we say? They were three for three.

10. College, here she comes

Keep in mind we would never wear pumps on our first day—or really any day—of college, as Blair did. You can take the Queen B out of the UES, but you can’t take the UES out of the Queen B. Chuck seeing her off for her big NYU adventure was just the cherry on top of this look.

11. Speakeasy costumed

Costume parties always lent a nice change of pace to the Gossip Girl fashion norms. Season three’s prohibition-style soiree allowed Chuck and Blair to do the two things they loved most: scheme and look superb doing it.

12. Flashback dreaming

Old Hollywood dream sequences make for outstanding style moments, don’t you think? Dressed to the nines, these two come out on top… even if Vanessa did best Blair in her All About Eve-inspired nightmare.

13. Wintry mix

The coldest months aren’t upon us yet, but winter is coming. That’s why we’ll be taking inspiration from C and B’s bundled up chic layering.

14. Wedding guests

We’ve seen a fair share of UES weddings, but an outdoorsy fall theme allowed for palettes that we weren’t used to seeing on this bunch. Switching up their ordinarily proper ensembles for these more relaxed silhouettes was a welcome change.

15. Cordially invited

At this point, we’ve almost run out of ways to describe their endlessly spot on style. This is just another great example of Blair and Chuck’s fashion expertise. Shall we move on?

16. Business not-so-casual

We loved seeing Blair in a suit after years of watching Chuck slay in the menswear department. This outfit gently pointed to Blair’s inevitable success as a businesswoman, as she reached her career goals so she could be with Chuck once and for all.

17. Monkey business

That cute little mutt that stole Chuck’s heart is a mere distraction. Because bumping into your former beau at the duck pond never looked so good.

18. Adorbs, even apart

Don’t be fooled by the hand holding. Chuck and Blair were not together in this episode. But aren’t they cute together?

19. On a mission

The mixing of prints and colors here should throw us off. But B and C found a way to stand out among a sea of lame dressers, which was kind of their superpower.

20. Party crashers

This episode had a lot of ups and downs, and we’re not just talking about the bar mitzvah chair—all the puns intended—ritual thing. These clothes looked almost as great on as they did getting ripped off in the steamy scene that followed.

21. Meet in the middle

Be still our beating hearts! This was pure magic, from the setting to the wardrobe to the pair’s first chilling encounter after Chuck’s near-death experience. But what we adore about these outfits is the juxtaposition of Blair’s stunning gown and the commoner’s clothing Chuck is wearing. It’s something we never thought we’d see on GG, but we’re oh-so-glad we did.

22. Building their Empire

This has got to be our favorite on the list. The coordinating colors and pure joy here set these ensembles apart from all others, in our opinions.

23. I do times two

Stop the presses. Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Bass in the stunning outfits they wore to—FINALLY—marry each other at Bethesda Fountain. What a perfect way to end the series! Excuse us while we pin this to our “bride-to-be with no engagement ring” Pinterest board.

Which of Chuck and Blair’s looks is your favorite, collegiettes?

Suspect Arrested in Connection with Explosions in NYC & NJ

The string of blasts that erupted this past weekend in areas of New York City and New Jersey has led FBI agents and police officers to search for Ahmad Khan Rahami, the New York Times reports. Earlier this morning, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that “Anyone seeing him should call 911 immediately.” He has now been taken into custody after being wounded by police gunfire, according to the Times.

CNN reports that there’s an air of mystery surrounding Rahami. Although the New York Times provides Rahami’s date of birth (January 23, 1988), physical description (5’6”, 200 pounds) and last known place of residence (Elizabeth, New Jersey), authorities have yet to release a thorough explanation as to why their evidence connects him to the explosions in Manhattan and areas of New Jersey.

In case you missed it, here’s the scoop: this weekend was—and still is—intense. According to USA Today, a surprise blast shook the shores of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The pipe bomb reportedly injured no one, but the explosion that occurred shortly after in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood hurt 29 people. Fortunately there were no life-threatening situations, and those injured by the homemade device have since been released from hospital care. A second device was found in the same NYC neighborhood. However, police managed to remove the suspected pressure cooker before it had a chance to detonate.

As if this weren’t enough, five pipe bombs were found near an Elizabeth, N.J. train station Sunday night. Despite efforts to disarm one of the bomb, it exploded early Monday morning. There have been no known reports of injuries or damages to the area.

Mayor de Blasio has made it clear that safety is his top concern in the aftermath of these attacks.

“I want to be very clear that this individual could be armed and dangerous,” Mayor de Blasio said of Rahami during an interview on Monday morning.

USA Today reports that investigators are not aware of any connections between Rahami and Al Qaeda or any other international terrorist group. Regardless, May de Blasio told CNN that he “would not be surprised if we did have a foreign connection to the act.”

Hopefully, the coming days will bring some answers, especially now that Rahami has been arrested.

Best Season

Season One (& Season Two)

This is a real toss-up. As is the case with any show set in high school, Gossip Girl is at its best in—you guessed it—high school. Season one is filled with all the explosive drama that you expect from a show like GG, but season two ups the ante and takes it even further.

Worst Season

Season Three

Gossip Girl stumbles when our favorite group of rich kids leaves high school, embarking on the show’s boring and oftentimes incoherent take on college. This group is made for the real world, where well-off teenagers don’t need jobs to stay in the black. The show does well to remember that and recovers once it does.

Characters You Will Love to Hate

Jenny Humphrey

Jenny starts out as the naïve youngster who just wants to fit in. By the time she’s done wreaking havoc on the Upper East Side, you’ll never want to see her raccoon eyes again.

Vanessa does not, in any way, shape or form, work in this world. She can be a delightful breath of fresh air at times, but mostly she’s the judgy outcast you wish would just shut up.

Chuck & Blair

Tell us the name of one person who does not bend over backwards to find a love like Blair and Chuck’s. You can’t? That’s because psychos like that do not exist. Chair is EVERYTHING, and we will continue to adore them until the end of time.

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Minnesota Mall Stabbing That Injured 9

A stabbing attack injured nine people at a St. Cloud, Minn. shopping mall on Saturday night. According to the Associated Press, the Islamic State has identified itself as the force responsible for the act.

At around 8 p.m. Saturday, a man embarked on a stabbing spree that left nine victims with non life-threatening injuries. The AP reports that the man entered the scene wearing a private security uniform. He targeted the mall goers until an off-duty police officer fatally shot him. The mall did not open on Sunday, and of the seven men, one woman and one child who were injured in the stabbing, three continue to receive hospital care.

Police officials have yet to release the name of the attacker. However, according to the Star Tribune, he has been identified by his father as 22-year-old Dahir A. Adan. Ahmed Adan disclosed his son’s name during an interview at his St. Cloud apartment on Sunday night.

The Islamic State quickly claimed the stabbing as its own. The New York Times reports that the connection between Adan’s actions and the terrorist group remains unclear, but an ISIS newswire agency claims Adan was acting for them.

“[The] executor of the stabbing attacks in #Minnesota yesterday was a soldier of the Islamic State.” the Amaq News Agency said Sunday.

According to the Star Tribune, the Islamic State’s insistence has resulted in an FBI-led investigation. Though the FBI is not officially attributing the attack to a terror group yet, Adan reportedly referenced Allah throughout the stabbing and questioned at least one victim about whether or not he or she was Muslim.

St. Cloud police Chief Blair Anderson told the AP that the attack was Adan’s fourth encounter with police. He said the other three encounters were for minor reasons.

Our nation endured an exceptionally scary weekend. Regardless of whether or not this attack (as well as the explosions in New York City and New Jersey) was driven by terroristic motives, one thing’s for sure—safety isn't something we can take for granted.

I Lived Like 'Gossip Girl’s' Blair Waldorf for a Week & Here’s What Happened

$

0

Blair Waldorf, AKA Queen B, ruled the Upper East Side of New York City on the hit television series Gossip Girl— and along the way also taught us a lot about life during the course of the show. Blair is smart and well-educated; she attended an elite private prep school. She’s pretty, feisty, sophisticated, driven and ambitious, sarcastic, wealthy and worldly. Blair doesn’t take no for an answer, has a strong sense of confidence, knows her worth and does whatever it takes to achieve what she wants. She is the perfect role model for any female!

Plus she possesses impeccable taste in fashion. Blair’s personal style became iconic, and continues to have many recreating her signature looks. (Her classic headbands, tweed jackets, colored tights, plaid skirts, Louboutin heels, trench coats, pearl earrings and preppy attire ring a bell?!)

As an experiment, I decided to fully live like Blair Waldorf for an entire week and employed a ‘What Would Blair Do?’ mindset. (After all; she is good at making decisions since she has many positive attributes and personality traits.)

As an original Gossip Girl fan from the beginning, I thought this would be fun to try since I have always loved and admired Blair – and already identify with her in certain aspects. (Plus I’ve read all the books, have binge watched the entire series too many times to count and have taken the Gossip Girl sites tour in NYC.)

RELATED: Quiz: Which 'Gossip Girl' Character Are You?

The timing now was perfect because I am a young ambitious female, who lives in New York City and attends a private college on the Upper East Side. It’s very Blair, right? The lifestyle here is fast paced, schedules are always hectic, you’re always striving to obtain goals, events and parties are a constant occurrence, celebrity sightings are inevitable and you are experiencing culture at its prime.

To live like Blair, and fully obtain her mindset, I followed these five steps:

1. Confidence

It is Blair Waldorf who proclaims, “I’m the best of the best. I’m Blair Waldorf.” When you are secure and confident with yourself, you feel better and happier overall in life. You also attract other secure and confident individuals into your life, then you all get along well and empower each other. Blair would cut out anyone from her life who didn’t want her to succeed and be happy – and we all should too. Life is too short to surround yourself with anything less than good people who want you to thrive.

When life got overwhelming and hectic with work, writing, events, and relationships I reminded myself, “I am Katie Gray. People don’t tell me who I am, I tell them.” When you whisper this to yourself in stressful situations you actually do feel better after saying it out loud. It’s like, ‘Oh I was momentarily flustered but I’m back again and I got this, obviously!’

At the end of the day, we all work hard so we do in fact have this! (Seriously, we can handle any situation thrown at us in life. Also, remember it’s the struggles that make it interesting and keep us humble and grateful.)

2. Fashion

Every day is a fashion show and the world is the runway – especially when you live in New York City and are in a Blair Waldorf State of Mind. New York is the epitome for fashion here in the United States. It’s where Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week famously takes place every September and February, and it’s where every major fashion magazine publication is located. Blair and fashion go together hand in hand.

To be like Blair, I did as she would do. I never said no to a shopping invitation, I dressed preppy and chic, I took the train as little as possible since she despises it, I wouldn’t purchase anything on sale and I avoided anything that was so last season. (Remember when Blair was interviewing new minions and with a dissatisfied facial expression, asked the girl, “Are those last season’s Tory Burch flats?!”)

“Whoever said that money doesn’t buy happiness, didn’t know where to shop.” – Blair Waldorf

It was all about accessories this week. Blair’s infamous headbands are symbolic because they are like her crown and tiara she puts on every morning. Her fashion dictates her mood and mine did too. When she’s feeling down she wears hats, capes and ponchos. When she is trying to be extra mature and seem older she wears oversized pearl earrings, argyle, turtle necks and tweed. When the weather is nice and she is happy she wears bright colors. She also always rocks a defined bold lip, so I did too and purchased MAC’s Cyber, Russian Red and Angel lip shades. She likes little black dresses and always looks chic and conservative at parties – which are matched with jewels. So I wore black dresses with Blair inspired accessories and makeup tones.

Although we all aren’t as fortunate as Blair to have a never ending source of income to buy designer goods, a fashion designer mother, a boyfriend like Chuck Bass to buy us expensive jewelry and a best friend/housekeeper like her Dorota – we can still channel our inner Blair!

3. Go-Getter

Blair is constantly striving and she is notorious for being a go-getter. Some of her fantasies and goals have included: Joining the Peace Corps, getting a killer tan, winning the Nobel Peace Prize and having dinner with the President of the United States. Hey, a girl has to dream, right?! I focused solely this week on making things that I wanted happen and did whatever made me happy. As Blair says, “Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.”

RELATED: This Is What "Gossip Girl" Would Be Like If It Was Set In 2016

We have to take matters into our own hands. That means pursuing everything we want, taking care of our own business, researching everything ourselves and constantly learning. That’s how Blair knows absolutely everything about everyone. (I didn’t conduct any blackmailing and spying like she has been known to do from time to time, though! It’s best to avoid, if possible.) But B is right, “If you really want something you don’t stop for anyone or anything, until you get it."

4. Determination & Affirmations

If Blair is anything, it is determined. She never lets anything or anyone get in the way of her dreams, goals and desires. This alone is a great message for everyone to remember and encompass. I made sure to not let anyone interfere with my goals and visions. I made sure to channel this while I was interning in the beauty department of a public relations firm in the city and freelance writing all week.

Sometimes Blair can be extreme, such as her remark, “You can’t make people love you but you can make them fear you.” However; she has a point – we can’t put our focus on what people will think. We just have to be ourselves and the right ones will love us and the ones who don’t – it’s their loss.

Blair is willing to do whatever it takes in order to reach her achievements and has been seen reading ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu. In my quest to be more Blair like I read the book this week. I actually already had a copy of it because it’s a classic, I’m a bookworm and I had noticed Blair had read it on the show when I was in high school so it was on my reading list for a while. I get what the buzz is about, there are good tactics listed to winning any type of war or endeavor. It was not only Sun Tzu, but Blair, who taught me that with determination and perseverance we can be successful at anything we put forth our minds and efforts too.

That means when people try to rain on our parade and be negative, you have to shut it right down and not let it bother you. This week when people were being even the slightest bit discouraging, I ignored it and kept calm and carried on. I remembered what Blair would say to anyone who tried to doubt her or stop her from achieving her dreams

We all need to remember our worth. It's just like Blair explains, “I’m not a stop along the way. I’m a destination.” This particularly comes into context when dealing with interpersonal relationships. Blair is right, “A girl wants Romeo, not Hamlet.” She’s also right that, we all need a 'Knight in Shining Armani'. But when they aren’t up to par and don’t know how to treat us the way we know we deserve we have to remember Blair, “My life is so bountiful, I don’t need a boyfriend to feel fulfilled.”

5. Blair’s Favorite Things

This week I indulged in all of Blair’s favorites. That means I watched the beautiful classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, ate macarons and Godiva, partook in quintessential New York activities like brunch at Bagatelle, looked religiously at fashion magazines, focused on my college goals, hung out with my best friends (constantly dragging them on adventures with me) and read many novels including 'The Art of War'.

RELATED: 15 Signs You Should've Ended Up with Chuck Bass

I also went to places that Blair frequents and would approve of, such as: Central Park, the Met (and sat on those famous steps like Blair did every morning of her high school years), Henri Bendel, the Empire Hotel for drinks, Lavo for dinner, etc. I made sure I drank a gin martini, as Blair prefers. (Remember when she scolded Little Jenny Humprhey and explained, “This is a Gin Martini. As it should be.”)

At the end of the day, we must:

21 'Gossip Girl' Style Moments We'll NEVER Forget

$

The hookups. The on-again, off-again friendships. The excess of money, power and success that could be achieved even after dropping out of college. There are a lot of things we still remember about Gossip Girl, but the one thing we’ll never forget—the fashion! For six seasons, the show’s stars wore ensembles we could only dream of. Now, we’re counting down, in no particular order, our 21 favorite style moments.

1. Every. Uniform. Ever.

Blair and Serena were masters of the Constance uniform. Each putting their own unique spin on the mandatory dress code, they made us all want to be schoolgirls again.

2. Serena’s debut

Ms. van der Woodsen waltzed right back into life on the Upper East Side with an equestrian-inspired outfit that made her the envy of all the friends she had left behind.

3. Jenny, the early years

Let’s just get this out of the way. We still haven’t forgiven Jenny for doing you know what with you know who. Sure, she was cute during the first few seasons, but once grungy Jenny took over all hope was lost for this would-be fashionista.

4. Vanessa (that one time)

Vanessa’s style was admittedly touch-and-go for the majority of her tenure on GG, but this vibrant maxi really popped and left its mark.

5. Themes aplenty

The UES partied. A lot. So whenever those shindigs had a theme we were in for a treat. This Prohibition-style extravaganza was one of our absolute favorites for its sparkly, flapper-esque sheaths.

6. Catwalking

One of Jenny’s creations, this dress’s shape and color certainly stood out among Eleanor’s drab collection.

7. Love me?

This outfit is not so much memorable for its chic factor (not that it isn't chic!), but for the scene it comes from. To say we vividly recall Chuck’s declaration of love to Blair is a major understatement, making this look one we’ll always cherish.

8. Working woman

Blair is an inspiration for many reasons, but her office wardrobe is tops for us. Who knew shorts could be workwear? Actually, we did because, you know, Blair did it.

9. Sheer perfection

We have no words.

10. Vacay or bust

Blair’s Season 2 Hamptons getaway did wonders for her wardrobe—and ours! Suddenly her girly style was more relatable than ever and made us want to pack our bags immediately.

11. Pearls and panels and prints, oh my!

On anyone else, this dress could’ve been overkill. Put it on Serena van der Woodsen, and you’ve got a look that’s museum-worthy.

12. White clothing not optional

We didn’t realize how sophisticated a party could be if you demanded your guests go completely monochromatic. A sea of white outfits made this end-of-summer bash a smashing success, though Chuck left a sore loser. (Three words... eight letters...)

13. We’ll always have the Met steps

We have to give major props to costume designer Eric Daman, who always found a way to make Blair and Serena’s looks complimentary. No matter what the two were wearing or what type of bestie battle they were in, we never had to fear a wardrobe clash.

14. Paris is for hats

When Gossip Girl shot a portion of Season 4 in Paris, we were thrilled beyond belief. The stunning backdrops were even remarkably upstaged by the ladies’ unbelievable style shakeups. Serena in a hat? We thought we’d never see the day, but man was the wait worth it.

15. What to wear to a wedding

There were perhaps too many weddings to count during GG’s run, but no wedding look can match Blair’s pink floral masterpiece. Consider us prepared to dress without worry for all our friends’ upcoming big days.

16. Cutouts galore

Serena was the queen of cutouts, and she totally pulled them off. Especially this one, which she wore to a Sotheby’s auction. It’s not exactly what we thought one might don to attend an auction, but what do we know about fancy rich people functions?

17. Coming out at Cotillion

Season 1’s Cotillion episode gave us two of the most iconic Serena and Blair fashion moments we would ever see on the show. Now what kind of party do we have to go to if we want to dress like this?

18. Serena takes Cali

Remember when Serena moved to California to become a big time movie something or other? If anything, we loved her take on the Cali-girl look.

19. Red all over

No one has ever looked more beautiful than Blair Waldorf did in this moment. Let’s not forget that this dress provided this incomparable visual as well.

20. Wedding belle

This slightly overwhelming Georges Chakra dress wasn’t exactly what we envisioned Serena getting married in... but really, if anybody was going to wear a gilded wedding dress, it would be Serena, wouldn't it?

21. Mrs. Chuck Bass

Blair’s first wedding didn’t quite end up the way she thought it would, but her do-over with Chuck allowed her to skip the traditional white gown for this gorgeous beaded confection. We’ll just be over here drooling now, okay?

Which of these style moments was your favorite, collegiettes? And which did we forget to include?

Ok, this one definitely has some different elements, like the fact that it includes werewolves, witches and vampires, but trust us, it will not disappoint. The eye candy in this show is so good, you might fall for Damon Salvatore’s smirk over Chuck Bass’s smolder. Regardless, the love triangle in this series will get you hooked.

4. The Carrie Diaries

The fashion overload in this pre-Sex and the City series will satisfy any couture craving you have. Plus, it takes place in Manhattan and involves all the trials and tribulations that come with being a teenager—and as you know, there are a lot.

5. The O.C.

There is no shortage of fashion or enviable lifestyles in this drama. It might take place on the sands of Cali instead of the streets of NYC, but you’ll love watching the luxurious lifestyles and teenage drama ensue. You’ll definitely be experiencing the fashion envy you felt while watching GG.

6. Revenge

Lives of the rich and famous? Check. Taking place in the elite Hamptons area, this show will have you bingeing non-stop. Between a crazy, twisted plot, and more eye candy than you thought possible, this is a great show for any GG lover.

7. Pretty Little Liars

The similarities between PLL and GG are undeniable. Not only do you have a mystery antagonist—A and Gossip Girl would probably be great friends—but you also have plenty of high fashion to keep you occupied. The non-stop suspense in this series will have you stuck to your screen for days on end.

8. 90210

This show is the epitome of drama, and it’s basically the west coast version of GG. Not only is every single person drop dead gorgeous, but they also live lavish lifestyles that will have you endlessly daydreaming. The friend drama that you loved on GG is a huge part of this show, and just like GG, you’ll be pining after all the clothes that your ramen-three-times-a-week budget doesn’t have the funds for.

11 Ways 'Gossip Girl' Would Be Different in 2016

As many of you may or may not know, today is the anniversary of Gossip Girl's premiere—aka the best day in the world. From teaching young women how to rule over their peers to how to dress for a party, the teens of Gossip Girl were our role models. But that does not go without saying that some things might be a bit different if the show took place in modern times. Here are 11 ways Gossip Girl would be totally different in 2016:

1. Gossip Girl would not be anonymous

The biggest plot line of Gossip Girl is, in fact, Gossip Girl. If instead of the early 2000s this show took place in 2016, Gossip Girl would be a very prominent blogger with a huge Instagram following, who has eyes everywhere and anywhere.

2. Drama wouldn't be happening over a flip phone

The most obvious difference would be the technology. Instead of a text message giving everyone the scoop from the Upper East Side, it would be an app with some push notifications that you would promptly turn off if it got too annoying. Buh bye, GG.

3. Goodbye headbands, hello chokers

Besides being queen of life, Blair Waldorf is also known for her active use of headbands in the first few seasons. Well, sorry B, but modern day Gossip Girl is all about the choker. One can assume that Blair's would look something like this:

4. The teens would not get away with drinking cocktails all the time

Okay, is it just us or do these kids get away with drinking and partying WITHOUT getting carded everywhere they go?! If GG were filmed today, every character would have a chic fake ID that would promptly get taken away in a dramatic episode.

5. Blair's minions would be her squad

Thanks to T. Swift, squads are back in style, and Blair certainly would have one. Now that we're thinking about it, maybe Taylor Swift actually is Blair Waldorf, and everyone in her squad really just hates her and is following her blindly. Sorry, nevermind. Bye.

6. Dorota would be a hot foreign au pair and not "the help"

The maid outfit is sooo 2007.

7. Jenny would go to an art school

The second Rufus saw that Jenny was shying away from school to focus on fashion, he would have sent her off to a boarding school to pursue fashion without the distractions and drama.

8. Nate and Serena would have been on the cover of Vogue instead of Gigi and Zayn

For the short period of time when Nate and Serena were together, they would have definitely been Manhattan's "it" couple, complete with a Vogue cover and couple name. Serenate, anyone?

9. Rufus's band would do a revival tour and people would actually go

The '90s are back and that means so is Lincoln Hawk!

10. Chuck would be the star of the "Rich Kids of New York" Instagram account

While he may not be a kid anymore, he certainly was a crazy one.

And last but not least…

11. It wouldn't have taken Vanessa and Dan so long to get together because they would have matched on Tinder as soon as they were both single

Ah, true love at last.

Did Rice University's Marching Band Go Too Far With This Halftime Show?

At a football game on Friday, Rice University’s marching band offended some spectators when they included references to the sexual assault scandal that has rocked the campus of their opponent, Baylor University, in their halftime performance. The band performed in the shape of the Roman numeral IX, a reference to Title IX, and in the shape of a star, a reference to former Baylor University President Ken Starr.

Starr left the school in May after Baylor failed to respond appropriately when football players were accused of sexual assault, even retaliating against some victims, according to a report by law firm Pepper Hamilton. Later, several victims filed a Title IX lawsuit against the university.

According to ESPN, Rice's Marching Owl Band is known for satirical performances, and the Houston Chronicle reports that the MOB has seriously pissed off fans at other schools before. The band focused this performance on the section of the crowd dedicated to Baylor students.

Rice University issued a statement apologizing for offending spectators, but stressed that the university doesn't know about or approve the band's performances before game time. The statement is more of a “I’m sorry you were offended” apology than a sincere one—the school clearly wants to avoid responsibility.

“The Marching Owl Band, or MOB, has a tradition of satirizing the Rice Owls’ football opponents. In this case, the band’s calling attention to the situation at Baylor was subject to many different interpretations," the statement reads. "Although the band’s halftime shows are entirely the members’ projects with no prior review by the university administration, we regret any offense, particularly if Baylor fans may have felt unwelcome in our stadium.”

The statement continues, “The MOB sought to highlight the events at Baylor by satirizing the actions or inactions of the Baylor administration, but it is apparent from the comments of many spectators and Baylor fans that the MOB's effort may have went too far.” Notice that the university avoided making a statement on whether they think the performance was offensive.

Whether or not the Marching Owl Band went too far, their satire didn't help Rice's football team at all. Baylor won the game 38-10.
