A 10-Year-Old Hacked Instagram and Got Paid $10,000

0
0

For some of us, $10,000 is enough money to pay for a car or a portion of our tuition. But, for a ten-year-old boy named Jani, getting $10,000 seemed like the perfect opportunity for him to buy a football and a brand new bike.

According to The Washington Post, the Finnish tween, whose full name hasn't been revealed at the request of his parents, has officially been named the youngest person to ever be rewarded by Facebook's Bug Bounty Program—A program that pays people who find problems within Facebook and its apps. Jani hacked Instagram and found an particularly bad flaw. According to Jani, the bug gave him the ability to delete comments posted by other users, as Instagram's system of checking users to make sure they had the authority to delete comments wasn't working properly. He used Justin Bieber as an example, though he held off on deleting any of the Biebs' comments and tested the flaw on a comment that Instagram posted to a decoy account instead.

The funny thing about this entire ordeal is the fact that Jani was able to discover the glitch despite the fact that he is not even old enough to have an account on the photo-sharing app, being just three years shy of the minimum age. Still, Jani has plans for the money he's about to receive, and those include buying some new soccer gear as well as purchasing new computers for himself and his twin brother.

What Happened to the UW Madison Students Who Fell in Love on Snapchat?

0

If you don't believe in love at first sight, just take a look at this Snapchat love story that recently went viral.

Once upon a time, a young lady known as "Mystery Girl" professed her love for a potential bae named "Vikings Fan" after she came across him in the University of Wisconsin-Madision library. "Mystery Girl," whose real name is Abby, spotted a guy wearing a Minnesota Vikings jersey and posted a Snapchat to the campus story that said "I'm seriously in love with you. Find me." Naturally when "Vikings Fan"—real name Reed—responded to the snap with a time and a place to meet, the entire campus jumped on board and made it their mission to make sure Abby and Reed miraculously found each other.

Since then, New York magazine managed to get ahold of the "couple" to get the lowdown on their viral love story and how they've been dealing with the fame. According to Abby, she didn't even think her snap would get posted.

"I hadn't found the right lighting, or taken my hair down, or taken my glasses off," she said. "I just opened my phone and recorded my snap in one try."

The 22-year-old seniors admit that their meetup was "emotional," and that they have spent almost every day together since they met.

Despite the time they've spent together, they definitely haven't defined themselves as a couple. Abby, a zoology major, is graduating soon and has plans to move to Florida shortly after. Meanwhile, Reed, who is a biochemical-engineering student, has plans to go to medical school. Wherever these two end up, they'll be living happily-ever-after in our Snapchat dreams.

American Girl Has Created a Diabetes Care Kit for Dolls

American Girl, the doll company that made us love history as children and has created service dogs, wheel chairs, crutches and other accessories for their dolls, has done it again. But this time, they've created a doll-sized diabetes care kit

It's $24 and includes a blood sugar monitor, an insulin pump, a lancing device, a vial of pretend glucose tablets, an ID card, an insulin injection pen needle, logbook and stickers, a medical bracelet and a pretty carrying case to put it all in.

The girl behind the idea of a diabetes care kit is 13-year-old Anja Busse, according to The New York Times. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 11. When she received her first American Girl doll, it was exactly like her—but without the diabetes. She began a petition to make diabetes kits and it received 7,000 signatures. The company noticed the demand and came through.

American Girl has been fostering inclusivity since it began. Girls can customize dolls to look just like them, skin color and all. The company's historic line includes Hispanic, African American, Jewish and Native American dolls. It was only a matter of time until the diabetes care kit made an appearance.

Matt Wahmhoff, the designer of the kit, told the Times: "Now little girls will be able to incorporate diabetes in their play, not only when they play with their dolls, but when they interact and play with their friends, and raise awareness."

American Girl never ceases to amaze us, and we can't wait to see how the company continues to change and grow in the coming years.

7 Graduation Beauty Ideas We Got From the Met Gala

That exciting but totally bittersweet day—graduation—is right around the corner. You've just spent weeks conquering your last finals, and definitely have the under-eye bags to show for it. Don't let it stay that way! We've found some major inspo from the Met Gala red carpet, so channel some of your favorite celebs as you walk at graduation!

Beyoncé

Those long locks will work just fine under a graduation cap—and that smoky eye is full-on #goals.

Elle Fanning

We love how timeless and fresh Elle's makeup is! When you're looking at your graduation photos years down the line, you're going to want to think of the memories—and not what makeup trends were in at the time, so keeping it neutral isn't a bad idea.

Kendall Jenner

Let's be real—you're probably going to be weeping during the graduation festivities, so make sure you keep some waterproof mascara on hand. Want the feathered look all ceremony long? Try lash extensions to get the length Kendall has here!

Poppy Delevingne

Chances are, your parents aren't going to be sitting right up close to the stage when you pick up your diploma. Make sure they can see your beaming smile by rocking a bold lip color!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

If you've spent the week leading up to graduation partying, opt for a low-maintenance look like the Olsen twins are wearing here. A little bit of smudged eyeliner and strategically tousled hair does the trick!

HAIM

Overall, this trio is wearing a pretty neutral look, from makeup to hair. But where they really stand out is the brows—and who doesn't want to be remembered for having the best brows on graduation day?

Kate Bosworth

Your soon-to-be employer might be scrolling through your social media profiles, and it doesn’t hurt to look office-ready in your graduation pics. Letting them see you with these matte red lips will make you appear both elegant and professional!

15 Reasons Why Finals Week is Actually Lit

0
0

Finals week is probably the most dreaded week of each semester, but is it really all that bad? No way! Read below for the 15 reasons why finals week is actually f*cking lit:

You can cry and everyone understands

In fact, someone will probably be right there handing you a tissue.

You can sleep anywhere!

The library floor has never been more comfortable!

It’s the perfect excuse to say “Screw it!” and eat comfort food everyday

"I deserve this."

No classes!

Lets waste away an entire day worrying about the impending doom of final exams!

Summer is right around the corner

You can survive! You will survive!

You learn to accept defeat

So what if you fail the class that gave you anxiety all semester? There is always next year, right?

You get to say goodbye to all your evil professors

And all those failed tests you will never recover from!

Coffee has never tasted better

Your sleep schedule may be crumbling, but at least there is Starbucks!

The most random things become more fun

Because anything is more enjoyable than studying.

Your beauty routine can become a little more relaxed

Sweatpants every day!

Your gym routine also disappears

It's whatever!

There is no satisfaction like completely slaying a test

"F*ck yeah, I just aced that b*tch."

Mental breakdowns are totally okay

It's a communal thing!

The weekend will be extra crazy

Everyone will take the word "celebration" to a whole new level!

The semester is over!

Nothing is better than when this realization sinks in.

If you’re a graduating senior, then we’re sure you’re well acquainted with the most dreaded question a senior collegiette can be asked: “So, what are you doing after graduation?”

The last thing a second-semester senior wants to be reminded of on a daily basis is that frightening future looming after graduation (which is even scarier for those seniors who still don’t have a job or grad school lined up!). For seniors who are tired of admitting they don’t have a clue as to what their future holds, here are a few responses you can offer those nosy inquirers instead.

1. I’m moving to Israel to start an alpaca farm.

2. I’m conducting an intensive research study exploring the effects of Netflix binges on job-search success.

3. I’m becoming a nanny for the Jolie-Pitt family.

4. I’m designing a new mobile game called Flippy Bird. In the game, you try to make an animated bird flip over a series of pipes (but if you accidentally hit one of the pipes, you don’t actually die!).

5. I’m traveling across the country in an attempt to find the best fried chicken in America and making a documentary about my experience.

6. I’m moving to LA to become a backup dancer for Beyoncé.

7. I’m going to become a YouTube sensation by making a series of videos where my hamster and I reenact famous movie scenes.

8. I’m developing a new diet trend where you only eat kale, coconut and chia seeds for a week.

9. I’m learning how to juggle fire so I can become a cruise ship entertainer.

10. I’m going to record a folk album about the struggles of being a recent grad. Songs will include “Findin’ a LinkedIn Profile Pic,” “No Money, No Prospects” and “Unemployable.”

11. I’m working as a living statue in Central Park.

12. I’m starting a food truck that sells only Cronuts.

13. I’m penning a young-adult book series about a love triangle between a human, a warlock and an alien.

14. I’m moving to Australia to become a pearl diver.

15. I’m going to open up a bar exclusively for bored graduates (college students will be strictly banned) with crazy-cheap drink specials every night of the week.

16. I’m working as a food scientist for Ben & Jerry’s to help them develop new Core ice cream flavors (my latest idea is mint chocolate chip ice cream with a Nutella core).

17. I’m going to gain a massive amount of weight, lose it all and become a motivational speaker to share my story with others.

18. I’m creating a dating site called LostSouls.com for recent grads who are unsure about what they want to do with their lives.

19. I’m developing a new fitness craze called Horizontal Running.

20. I’m writing a pilot episode for a new TV show about four graduates with no career prospects.

21. I’m going to try a new Frappuccino flavor at Starbucks every day for a year and start a blog about it called “Life of a Frap Star.”

22. I’m training to break the world record for longest keg stand.

23. I’m becoming a celebrity baby name consultant to help celebrities create new, trendy names for their children.

24. I’m traveling with the Ringling Bros. Circus as a trapeze artist.

25. I’m launching a line of high-fashion dog booties.

26. I’m undergoing leg-lengthening surgery and then auditioning to become a Rockette.

27. I’m training to become a balloon twister for birthday parties.

28. I’m designing an app for college grads that offers inspirational quotes whenever they’re feeling sad and blocks them from looking at their old college photo albums on Facebook more than three times a week.

29. I’m participating in a reality show where you have to survive in New York City for one week with only seven dollars and a bus pass.

30. I’m traveling the country photographing rare birds in their natural habitats.

31. I’m breeding Schnoodles.

32. I’m starting a Tumblr page called Sad Grads where recent grads can post gifs that best capture the scary uncertainty of post-graduation life.

33. I’m going door to door selling handmade key chains.

Katy Perry Thinks We Should Have a Social Media Blackout

Whether you document your every waking moment on Snapchat or you're posting your ~artsy~ shots to Instagram, there's no denying that social media consumes lives. Sometimes, it feels good to take a break from our Facebook newsfeeds—and Katy Perry agrees. In fact, she thinks we should all take this break together.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Katy Perry let everyone know just how she really feels about social media: “Speaking from someone who has a lot of social media spotlight, I feel like social media is very narcissistic and displays a life that isn’t really real,” she explained. “I wish there was a thing like Shabbat that wasn’t particularly religious-based, that was kind of a worldwide day where we’re not on our phones—like a movement.”

Although Perry does not observe or practice the Jewish beliefs that follow Shabbat, she does make an effort to incorporate some of the rituals they follow on this day into her everyday life. She makes an effort to not use her phone for 20 minutes a day but thinks the world could use something a little more effective than this short detox. "And I think it's going to be really difficult for our focus and our attention spans moving forward. So I'd love if the world implemented an actual day of real rest," she proposed.

Well, she’s right about one thing: the world could desperately use a break from social media. But would the world actually agree to do such a thing?

The 7 Best Movies About Moms to Watch on Mother's Day

0
0

Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday, May 8th. In addition to spoiling mom with our Mother’s Day Guide, we thought we’d also give you a few movie suggestions to get in the mom-worshipping spirit. Sit down with your mom’s favorite movie snack and celebrate your mom’s amazingness while paying homage to your favorite cinematic moms as well!

1. Freaky Friday

Such a classic. Why doesn’t Lindsay Lohan still sing?! That’s beside the point. Envisioning life if you and your mom switched bodies may be comical, but this movie also provides more serious points of reflection to think about how, at the end of the day, you and your mom are always there for one another, even if being there for one another means your mom is super involved in you scoring Chad Michael Murray!

2. The Kids Are All Right

The more moms, the merrier! In this 2010 film, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening are mothers to Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska. Both children were born via artificial insemination, and things get interesting when Mark Ruffalo, their biological father, is thrown into their lives for the first time.

3. Mean Girls

Maybe we're recommending this just for the Amy Poehler highlights. This one will give you the opportunity to laugh with your mom about the moments her well-intentioned parenting might have come off the wrong way!

4. Baby Mama

Here's another Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hit. Tina plays the part of a single woman taking up what seems like her only remaining opportunity to become a mother—Amy’s own fertility. The unlikely friendship the two develop is not only a great take on modern female motherhood, but also offers some original points of view on what it is actually like to become and, eventually, to actually be a mother.

5. Stepmom

This one will have you and your mom crying tears of sadness, joy and laughter. Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts star alongside one another, and create a chemistry that perfectly captures the essence of motherhood, struggles and triumphs combined. Sarandon’s ex-husband becomes Roberts’s girlfriend, and the two must navigate raising Sarandon’s children together.

6. Ice Princess

This is the classic tale of a parent who wants their child to live out their own dream. Michelle Trachtenberg and her on-screen mother, Joan Cusack, butt heads when Trachtenberg discovers a newfound passion for ice skating, just before she is set to start college at Harvard. This one has lessons for both mothers and daughters.

7. We Need to Talk About Kevin

If you and your mom are looking for something on the darker side this Mother’s Day, this one’s for you. This tells the story about the relationship between a mother and her sinister son, and her constant attempts to build a bond with him and his determination to cause chaos. Ezra Miller plays the twisted son of Tilda Swinton.

After the end of a long day of mother-daughter bonding, any of these films will tie a nice bow on the day spent appreciating your mom. Pile in on the couch together with pillows, popcorn and some matching pajamas—what could be better?

Kylie Jenner is Adding Music to Her Extensive Resume

Have you ever thought Kylie Jenner would step foot in the music industry? She recently made her singing debut on Lil Yachty's track "Beautiful Day."

The track is produced by Burberry Perry and uses the theme song from Mister Rodgers' Neighborhood. You can hear Kylie talking to her gal pal Jordyn Woods around 2:40 when she says, "I've never been on a song before!" She then sings an auto-tuned version of "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood."

Before you think Kylie's actually getting into music, you should check out Jordyn's tweet below:

She later tweeted, "You hear us laughing in the song... Clearly it was all of us together having fun."

It seems like Kylie isn't getting into music quite yet. But when it comes to the Kardashian-Jenner girls, never say never.

Anonymous 'Raped At Spelman' Twitter Account Strikes a Chord

0
0

On Monday evening, an anonymous Twitter user known only by the grim handle @RapedAtSpelman used a series of Tweets to chronicle how she was allegedly gang raped at a party by four Morehouse students. She writes that while at a party with friends, she went into the bathroom to throw up. Upon coming out of the bathroom, the student says she was surrounded by Morehouse students, who "took me to another room and took turns raping me." She explains that she does not plan to continue attending Spelman College, a liberal arts women's college in Atlanta, Ga., after her traumatic experience.

The anonymous student goes on to describe how when she finally met with school administrators after filing a report a month before, she was accosted with questions about what she was wearing and why she had participated in underage drinking. It seems like administrative officials were not asking the right questions at all, but in fact made the situation much worse.

If these tweets are true, than Spelman College needs to re-consider its priorities. The fact that inter-school relations take precedence over a student's pain and the injustice that she has experienced is inconceivable in this day and age. The only consolation in this troubling story is the outpouring of support that from students at both Spelman and Morehouse after seeing the Tweets. Students have been posting on social media with the hashtags #RapedAtSpelman and #RapedByMorehouse to raise awareness.

“Our hearts go out to this student and I want to personally offer her our full support and assistance,” Spelman President Mary Schmidt Campbell told BuzzFeed News in a statement. “We are a family at Spelman and we will not tolerate any episode of sexual violence. No student should ever have to suffer and endure the experience she has recounted on social media. Spelman is conducting a full and thorough review of these events.”

BuzzFeed also reports that the school has hired a new Title IX and compliance director, and is currently reviewing its policies regarding sexual violence.

U.S. Justice Department Condemns North Carolina's Anti-Transgender Bill

0
0

You've probably heard quite a bit about North Carolina's House Bill 2, which was signed into law on March 23. It bans individuals from using the restrooms that do not correspond to their biological sex, and it's been protested by everyone from Bruce Springsteen to the NBA. The law is a blatant attack on transgender individuals, and in response, the U.S. Justice Department has notified Gov. Pat McCrory that North Carolina is in violation of civil rights law, The New York Times reports.

According to CNN, the letters allegedly say, "Access to sex-segregated restrooms and other workplace facilities consistent with gender identity is a term, condition or privilege of employment. Denying such access to transgender individuals, whose gender identity is different from their gender assigned at birth, while affording it to similarly situated non-transgender employees, violates Title VII." Basically, when you get hired somewhere, you have to be given adequate bathroom facilities consistent with your gender. If you're not getting that, your employer is breaking the law.

The Justice Department gave McCrory a deadline of Monday, May 9 to "remedy these violations." CNN reported Thursday that McCrory said the state will respond by that deadline. However, North Carolina Speaker of the House Tim Moore said that they would not. "We will take no action by Monday,” Moore said, according to the Times. “That deadline will come and go.”

These recent events are a reminder that the battle for civil rights is far from over. Let's hope North Carolina takes action and changes the law to make the state safe for people of all gender identities.

6 Reasons Why You Should Travel Alone Before You Die

0
0

Whether it’s an epic spring break or a cross-country road trip with your BFFs, traveling with your friends is always a blast. But traveling alone can be even more rewarding. It’s something every girl should do at least once in her life (and hopefully even before graduation!). We’re huge fans of going out solo, so read on for the top reasons why traveling alone is amazing—with tips and tricks to make the most if you’re traveling this summer.

1. Forcing yourself to be independent is a great learning experience

We get it—being anywhere alone feels kind of awkward at first. We’ve all had those moments where we pretend to play with our phones while waiting for others and going out to dinner alone can feel extremely weird if you’re not used to it. But being alone is a great learning experience, as, let’s face it, you’re not going to live in the same apartment as your BFF for your entire life.

PRO TIP: When traveling alone, you should prepare ahead. Your bestie isn’t going to be there to lend you a spare tampon. Think ahead with Monthly Gift, a femme care subscription service that empowers women to take control of their cycle and health. The Monthly Gift App monitors your ovulation and menstrual cycle patterns, while the subscription delivers you a discreet box of customized tampons, pads and liners just in time for your period.

2. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want

Your friend wants to hit the clubs, you’re more of a monument girl. When you travel alone, you don’t have to compromise. You plan the ENTIRE itinerary—and the adventures are limitless.

PRO TIP: Pack items that are as flexible as your schedule. We’re obsessed with Brappz, the personalized multi-use accessory for any and every occasion. They can be used as bra straps, jewelry, shoelaces, hair accessories and more. You’re totally gonna be hooked!

3. You deserve a bit of me time

After a long, tiring semester, summer is the time to treat yourself. Hit the beach for some people-watching or sunbathing, all on your watch. Relaxing alone (Put down your phone, too, for maximum relaxation) is one of the best ways to recharge.

PRO TIP: Enhance your “me time” with the cutest accessories. We don’t go anywhere without our Vera Bradley Campus Double ID, Twice As Nice Keychain, Accordion Wallet and Beach Towel—the perfect summer accessories for your solo vacay.

4. It’s easier to stick to a budget alone

From hotels to transportation, traveling isn’t always cheap. When you go alone, you can budget however you want and not let other people influence what you’re paying for.

PRO TIP: If you’re traveling on a budget or simply looking to make new friends in town, Spots is the social app you need to download. Using Spots, you can find other students who are offering their living space on demand at an affordable price. When you find a match all it takes is your request and their approval. Voila! You have a fun place to stay, that doesn't break the bank and a new friend to experience the city with.

Download Spots today and start traveling on a whim!

5. You’ll meet new people

When you travel with your besties, it’s too easy to stay together instead of branching out and meeting locals. Going alone will allow you to easily meet new people, and maybe even pursue a summer romance!

PRO TIP: It’s way easier to strike up conversation when you feel confident. One easy way to get there is to simply feel like your most beautiful, best self. We love Pure Silk Shave Cream because soft, smooth legs are totally confidence-boosting. Pure Silk moisturizes and nourishes your skin as you shave, and leaves your skin softer and smoother than soap and water! Also, if you're looking for the getaway of a lifetime, Pure Silk's Love Your Legs Sweepstakes could send you and a friend to Colorado for the Gildan Esprit de She 5K/10K, yoga and sunset concert at Red Rocks Ampitheatre! Oh yeah, and a day of pampering at Life Spa and relaxing at a fabulous resort. What are you waiting for? Enter to win!

6. You’ll become a more confident person

You may feel a little awkward at first when you’re in a new town (or country) all by yourself. But once you realize you can do it, there’s literally nothing else you can’t do. Traveling solo is crazy empowering, which is why we think all women should do it at least once.

PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself to new things when you travel alone, like hiking a mountain or speaking the local language. No matter where you’re traveling, don’t forget essentials like your CamelBak Forge® Divide, an all-terrain mug that makes it easy to drink coffee or tea one-handed. It’s the perfect on-the-go mug since you can toss it in your bag without soaking your stuff!

Are you ready to travel alone, collegiettes? Where will you go this summer?

You Could Model for Khloé Kardashian's New Denim Brand

0
0

Khloé Kardashian announced some pretty exciting news on Twitter and Instagram this week.

She's launching a new denim brand called The GA Project, and she's looking for models to star in the campaign alongside her. The best part? It's not just your standard modeling campaign—it's all about body positivity.

"There is a new definition of sexy. The shape we lust for has curves, not the straight body of the fashion establishment. Some call it a new silhouette, we just think of it as embracing the body you were given," the new site reads.

The brand is about celebrating one another and breaking down stereotypes—who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

In order to apply you must be at least 18 years old and between five and six feet tall. All you need to do is submit a well-lit, fully body length photo posing straight against a simple background (entries are due by May 7 at 11:59pm PST).

If you're chosen, you get to star in the campaign alongside Khloé, become an ambassador of the brand and test the product. You'll be helping create the best possible jeans for women everywhere. Sounds like a dream job, no?

10 Ways to Survive the 3 p.m. Workday Slump

0
0

It’s 3 p.m. on Monday, and your cubicle is the last place you want to be. Jim asks you to scan something for him—for the fifth time today. Lauren CC’s you on an email with “URGENT” in the subject line; you open it up and have no clue how to respond. Matt wants you to proof something written in a different language. Samantha schedules a last-minute conference call to discuss a new business opportunity. Alicia and Kim won’t stop arguing.

Welcome to the real world, where working 9 to 5 is a thing.

You would do anything to be back in college where going to class sometimes felt optional and lectures could be watched online from the comfort of your bed. We’ve all felt this way one time or another, especially when the workday is more than halfway over but 5 p.m. still seems so far away. Here are 10 ways to reenergize and power through your workday when 3 p.m. rolls around and you can barely keep your eyes open.

1. Take a coffee or tea break

Many of us start every morning with a cup of coffee (or tea), but not all of us remember to restock later in the day (unless you’re a coffee-holic). The next time you find yourself dozing off at your desk, make a cup of coffee or tea, or, better yet, walk to the coffee shop down the street. A little caffeine in the afternoon will give you an extra burst of energy—just avoid having too much (skip the Venti!), otherwise you might disrupt your sleep later on in the night.

2. Go for a walk

Taking a brisk walk during a long, stressful workday is something we should all try to do a few times a week. The fresh air and exercise will help clear your head and relieve stress. Taking a few minutes away from your work to walk either in your building or outside will help you to refocus.

“I take walks all the time,” says Kelsey Tremberth, a 2012 graduate of the University of Michigan. “Sometimes you need to just get up and move around… get away from your desk and give your brain a break for a minute.”

When it’s nice out, take a walk around the block and stop for a snack on your way back to the office for a double boost of energy.

3. Switch to a different task

It’s easy to get stuck on one task and feel like you aren’t accomplishing anything, especially when you’ve been staring at a computer screen and sitting in the same spot all day long. The best solution to this is to work on a different task or project for an hour or so and then come back to the original task with a fresher eye.

If you’ve been typing numbers into Excel all day, switch to something that requires some human interaction, like calling a new supplier or scheduling a brainstorm session to discuss new ideas for an upcoming proposal. It’s important to go back and forth between solo tasks and group work to add some variety to each workday and make it past the middle of the day without feeling like your day is dragging.

4. Take a bathroom break

It might sound silly, but a break is a break. Even if you don’t really have to go right away, taking a bathroom break could be just what you need. Spend a few minutes in front of the mirror freshening up your makeup, brushing your hair or spraying perfume to help you feel refreshed and ready to get back to work. If nothing else, it will get you out of your seat for a few minutes!

5. Talk to a coworker

You can ask your coworker a question about work, see what her weekend plans are or even just tell her about a funny tweet you read that morning. It doesn’t matter too much what you talk about, but remember that there are some topics you should avoid! The goal is to talk face-to-face with someone and get away from those emails for a little bit.

“When I need to reenergize during work, I walk to the break room, get some caffeine and usually run into a coworker I can talk to for a few minutes and get my mind off what I was working on,” says Sarah Smolinski, a 2013 graduate of the University of Michigan.

6. Make a to-do list

Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed with our workload, but writing it all down really helps. If you have trouble focusing after lunch and don’t really know what to work on first, make a list of everything you hoped to accomplish that day and see what’s left. Write everything down, even the tasks you already finished earlier in the day; crossing items off your list will help give you a sense of accomplishment.

Prioritize the remaining tasks and estimate how long each one will take. Start with the ones that have approaching deadlines, and then move on to the tasks you have longer to complete.

“I’m a big note-taker and list-maker, so when meetings are planned or if I need to follow up with someone, I make sure to put it in my planner,” says Carly Potts, a 2014 graduate of the University of Michigan. “I also try to prioritize who to reach out to and when. Time organization is big for me.”

7. Turn your cubicle into a gym

Well, sort of. There are many stretches you can do right at your own desk that don’t require workout attire or special equipment. A five-minute desk workout might be all you need to refuel your mind and body for the rest of the workday! Exchange your chair for an exercise ball, tilt your head from side to side or roll your shoulders back to get your muscles moving and release tension. You might even be able to justify skipping the gym today!

8. Answer that text

When you need a quick break and want to think about something non-work-related for a few minutes, take out your phone and catch up on your text messages. You shouldn’t be glued to your phone when you’ve got work to do, but a 3 p.m. texting break is perfectly acceptable (unless you work in a really strict environment and texting could get you fired).

If you work in an open office where your boss sits right next to you, we recommend leaving your desk before texting. Even if there isn’t a strict policy in place, you don’t want anyone thinking you’re slacking on your work!

9. Check the news

When it’s late in the day and you need a break from the project you’re working on, take a few minutes to browse the breaking news headlines. Surf the web or download a news app on your phone. Catch up on the news in your industry so you don’t get too distracted from your own work. You might learn something that helps you solve a work problem or brings new insight into what you’re working on!

However, be conscious of what you’re looking at—when you’re on your office computer, there’s always the chance that your activity is being tracked. And don’t lose track of the time, as we all know surfing the web can be addicting!

10. Keep a positivity notebook

We all get bogged down at work sometimes, which can leave us feeling overwhelmed and unhappy. When this happens, take out a notebook and write down three positive things that have happened so far in the day. The list can include anything that puts you in a good mood—winning a new client, laughing with a coworker or having a nearly empty email inbox. This exercise will help you to focus on the good things and give you a positive attitude for finishing out the workday.

The next time you’re nodding off by the time late afternoon hits, follow these tips to make it through the rest of the workday without losing interest or feeling unproductive. Whether you need to get up and walk around, reprioritize with a new to-do list or refuel on coffee, soon enough you’ll be leaving the office each day feeling productive and full of energy!

Ariel Winter Responds to Chloë Grace Moretz's Latest Comments About Kim Kardashian

When Kim Kardashian posted her censored nude selfie back in March, the photo caused a media frenzy. Chloë Grace Moretz was not pleased with Kardashian's actions, tweeting, “I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies.” Kardashian later shut that argument down with her International Women’s Day essay. Meanwhile, Modern Family star Ariel Winter came to Kardashian’s defense, pointing out the gross double standard in which society shames women for posting nude photos while practically praising men for doing the same.

It has been two months since the debacle, but Moretz continues to comment on Kardashian and her now infamous selfie. In a recent interview with Glamour magazine, she explained her take on the whole ordeal (and cited jetlag as the reason behind her anger?).

Now, Winter is defending Kardashian once again in the form of a short, concise Instagram post. Though Winter doesn't directly call out Moretz, she does refer to "a certain interview"—likely a nod to Moretz's Glamour chat.

In what seems to be a direct response to Moretz's statement that Kardashian's photo "wasn't linked to body confidence," Winter contends: "What matters is the message you are putting out there is true to what YOU believe in - not what anyone else says about YOU." Furthermore, she adds, "No picture is the exception to someone else's rule."

Winter ends her post with a powerful reminder for Kardashian, Moretz and all of us: "Live life on your own terms." Agreed!

Former Penn State Football Coach May Have Known About Child Abuse as Early as 1976

Remember the horrific case of Joe Paterno from a few years ago? He was once known as the most successful coach in major college football at Penn State University, but suffered a tremendous blow in his reputation when it was discovered that Jerry Sandusky, his assistant coach, had been sexually abusing children for decades. While Sandusky was sentenced in 2012 to serve 30 to 60 years in prison, Paterno was fired and has been unable to regain the respect he lost, well after his death in January 2012. According to new allegations, Paterno was aware of Sandusky's sexual abuse since 1976—more than 30 years before the abuse came to light.

In the midst of the insurance lawsuit against Penn State, a line in the court order claims that, "in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU's Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky." Before this, the earliest knowledge of Sandusky's abuse goes back to 1988.

If Paterno knew about Sandusky’s conduct, why did he stay quiet? According to CNN, “At least 30 men were involved in a civil settlement with Penn State, and the number of victims could be even higher.” The abuse went on for decades and the high number of children that were sexually molested by Sandusky could’ve been lower had action been taken from the start. Paterno’s family and attorney insist he had nothing to do with a cover-up, but this new piece of information adds to quite a bit of evidence that seems to prove otherwise.

Even though fans already know who Gossip Girl is, the show's loyal followers are still curious to know how the characters' lives played out after the series ended. As rumors of a Gossip Girl reunion show circulate, former cast members seem to be more than willing to reprise their roles. In fact, Sebastian Stan, who played devilishly handsome schemer and one-time SVDW beau Carter Baizen, is all for a reunion.

While promoting his new film Captain America: Civil War, Stan told E! News, "I would do it. Why not?"

"I got Jessica Szohr and Chace [Crawford]," he added, referring to the actors who played disappearing act Vanessa Abrams and dim but lovable Nate Archibald.

Ed Westwick, a.k.a. the infamous Chuck Bass, has also said he'd like to do a reunion. We can only hope Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and the CW hit's other stars will join in, making this Gossip Girl reunion happen sooner rather than later.

KFC Just Release a Line of Fried-Chicken Tasting Nail Polishes

Any true nail maven knows that eating finger food with a fresh manicure usually doesn’t work out. However, KFC has found a way to change that. The restaurant is introducing a nail polish collection—yes you read that correctly—that not only includes a variety of colors, but different flavors as well. According to Marie Claire, “original recipe” and “hot and spicy” are a couple of examples of the lickable polishes.

According to a press release sent to Racked, the fried chicken-famous company acknowledged, “KFC's signature flavors - Original Recipe and Hot & Spicy - have been carefully formulated from natural ingredients into edible nail polish and packaged in a stylish glass bottle and minimal box with over gloss details to appeal to young consumers' love of food and fashion.”

The directions for the nail polish seem pretty simple, according to the same press release: “Simply apply and dry like regular nail polish and then lick—again and again and again to taste why the world's favourite chicken is Finger Lickin' Good.”

Currently, the nail polish is only available in Hong Kong, reports AdWeek. Consumers there are being given the opportunity to relay their thoughts on which flavor would be best to start with when KFC expands the line.

Until then, we'll just have to wait for our nails to dry before digging in.
