Caitlyn Jenner Uses Women's Restroom in Trump Building, Bashes Ted Cruz

On Wednesday, Caitlyn Jenner used a women’s bathroom in Trump International Hotel. This may seem relatively obvious, considering she is a woman. But, in light of the controversial HB2 bill, this is major.

When Republican candidate Donald Trump was on The Today Show last week, he discussed the HB2 bill. (Quick reminder: This is the North Carolina bill that requires transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their biological sex, not the gender they identify with.)

In the interview, Trump stated that “there has been so little trouble” with the way things are currently, there is no need to pass this so-called "bathroom bill."

“So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?” anchor Matt Lauer asked.

To which Trump responded: “That is correct.”

So, Caitlyn Jenner decided to give it try. When she was in New York on Wednesday, she was looking for a trans-friendly bathroom, which she found in Trump International Hotel. In a video uploaded to Facebook, she is treated hospitably when walking into the building and asking for the ladies room.

After she walked out of the women’s bathroom, she thanked Trump and said, “By the way Ted, nobody got molested,” a comment directed at Senator Ted Cruz who is in favor of the HB2 bill.

Mic drop. Jenner out.

Today was a good day for music! Drake finally released his long-awaited album Views on iTunes a little before midnight last night, and it is everything we could have wanted it to be.

Fans have been anxiously waiting for the album to drop for almost two years. Just like Drake promised, Views features a 20-song tracklist. It has some of our already-favorite Drake hits, like “Hotline Bling” and “Pop Style,” as well as some new ones we can’t wait to check out.

Media reviews of the album are already praising it as one of the best albums of the summer. With Drake’s skill for lyrics and good beats, we’re sure this is going to be one of the musical highlights of the year.

Don’t mind us as we go and put the album on REPEAT for the next 24 hours at least.

Oklahoma Court Says Oral Sex Isn’t Rape if Victim is Passed-Out Drunk

An Oklahoma appeals court has shown yet again how outdated some laws are, after it ruled that forcing an unconscious victim to perform oral sex isn’t technically rape if the victim is intoxicated. If that doesn’t make any sense to you, lots of people out there are agreeing.

The case that brought this whole issue up in the first place goes like this: According the the Guardian, a 17-year-old boy drove home a 16-year-old girl from a party. There was another passenger who was in the car for a while who said the girl was so drunk that she had to be carried out of the party and was coming in and out of consciousness. Later that night, she was dropped off at her grandmother’s house, but then brought to the hospital.

Hospital staff found a few things with this highly intoxicated 16-year-old. Firstly, her blood alcohol content was above .34—more than 4 times the legal driving limit. Second, DNA of the boy who drove her home was found in her mouth and on the back of her leg.

The boy told investigators that she consented to performing oral sex. However, the girl could not remember anything after leaving the party. The 17-year-old boy was then charged with forcible oral sodomy.

According to ABC 13, the case was thrown out by the first court. That ruling was upheld by The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. “Forcible sodomy cannot occur where a victim is so intoxicated as to be completely unconscious at the time of the sexual act of oral copulation,” said the Appeals court in a unanimous decision.

In other words, if someone forces you to perform oral sex while you’re passed out drunk, that person is not doing anything illegal. This was based on a current (and outdated) state law, which does not address victim intoxication. And because the law's language doesn't explicitly say that oral sex with an unconscious, drunk person is rape, the court can't charge this guy with rape.

This has sparked a huge debate and a lot of anger across the country. Benjamin Fu, Tulsa County’s assistant district attorney prosecuting the case, said the interpretation of the law was “insane,” “dangerous,” and “offensive.” The courts essentially told him, “We’re not going to create a crime where one does not exist,” according to Oklahoma Watch.

While some blame the courts, others, such as dean of CUNY School of Law Michelle Anderson, say that it was an “appropriate” ruling but an “archaic” law. “It creates a huge loophole for sexual abuse that makes no sense,” Anderson said to the Guardian.

Oklahoma State Representative Scott Biggs seems to agree. In a statement put out Friday morning, Biggs said, “I am horrified by the idea that we would allow these depraved rapists to face a lower charge simply because the victim is unconscious…I think the judges made a grave error, but if they need more clarification, we are happy to give it to them by fixing the statute. Unfortunately, legal minds often get stuck on questions of semantics, when it is clear to most of us what the intent of the law is.”

If one good thing was to come out of the case, maybe it is finally a push on state governments to change laws that let any kind of rape be legal.

Calvin Harris's New Song With Rihanna Is Definitely About Taylor Swift

Calvin Harris and Rihanna just unveiled their new collaboration and we are (of course) obsessed with it! But what makes us love it even more is that it seems to be referencing Calvin’s romance with Taylor Swift.

The song, called “This Is What You Came For,” describes how someone is watching who they think is the most perfect and electrifying person in the room. It’s safe to say this is referencing the way Calvin feels about his girlfriend, Taylor. With a great electric beat and catchy vocals from the always-amazing Rihanna, this song is definitely going to be burning up our summer playlists!

We’re not surprised the song could be about Taylor and Calvin’s relationship. Taylor has become famous for writing songs about her relationships, so we’d only expect her current beau to do the same. Taylor and Calvin are one of our favorite celeb couples, and we love getting more insider information on their romance!

Here’s to hoping there are many more songs about Tayvin to come! Listen to the full song here.

This High Schooler Was Body-Shamed at Prom

At Maryville High School’s prom, senior Amy Steverson primped like most other girls that day. She had her hair and makeup done, and spent all day prepping to look fabulous in her gorgeous black and tan lace dress. However, she couldn’t get into the prom—apparently her dress was “too revealing.”

According to one of her friend’s mother’s Facebook post, Amy spent much of the night in the bathroom crying before she was told she could enter the prom, but only if she agreed to wear the Vice Principal’s tuxedo jacket (the jacket wasn’t closed in the front, so it didn’t actually cover much besides the shoulders in the end anyway).

Cosmopolitan reported that the girl was repeatedly told by a teacher, “Us big girls gotta cover up.” No girl should have to spend part of their prom night crying in a bathroom because of adults shaming you for having breasts.

Unfortunately, this has happened across the country, especially to women who have large breasts—which are pretty darn difficult to cover up in a dress unless you wear a turtleneck. Shaming women based on how their bodies fit different gowns is not fair, especially on what was supposed to be an amazing prom night.

This Amy Schumer Sketch About Gun Control Is So Accurate It's Scary

While Amy Schumer realizes some people don't like it when celebrities get involved in politics, after she met the families of the two women shot and killed at a screening of her movie Trainwreck, she decided to use her platform to advocate for gun safety.

The April 28th episode of Inside Amy Schumer starts with a sketch poking fun at how easy it is to obtain a gun in America. Later in the show, Schumer takes a more serious tone to address the very important issue of gun violence and safety.

The sketch depicts two shopping network hosts who are willing to sell guns to just about anyone. One caller says he has been convicted of several violent felonies, but Schumer reassures him that he can still get a gun, “as long as you buy on the internet or at a gun show.” Her cohost explains, “If you go to a gun show, you can get an unlicensed seller to sell you a gun—no questions asked.”

Suddenly, the hosts are notified of a mass shooting, and they announce to viewers: "This means the government might come for your guns soon. They never have, but they always might." This speaks to the trend of gun sales spiking after mass shootings—such as the December 2015 shooting in San Bernardino—in fear of the federal government making it increasingly difficult to obtain guns.

The hosts are clearly uneducated about gun safety, waving and tossing the weapon around carelessly, and Schumer’s cohost ends up shooting himself. “It was his foot’s time,” Schumer's character says, rather than actually addressing the issue of gun safety.

Though humorous, the sketch portrays the attitude toward guns and gun safety in America. Later in the show, Schumer interviews Brina Milikowsky, chief strategy officer of Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation's largest organization for gun violence prevention. The organization is often incorrectly perceived as attempting to take everyone’s guns away, but Milikowsky explains that she meets with members of the NRA regularly to find some common ground.

She is not concerned with taking guns away, but, like Schumer, she wants to promote gun safety. Though news of mass shootings at public places like schools and movie theaters is widely circulated, the most common type of shooting is domestic violence related. Everytown reports that American women are 11 times more likely to be murdered with guns than women in other developed countries.

While most of us may not have experienced it personally, Schumer and Milikowsky remind us that gun violence is a widespread problem in America, and we shouldn’t wait until it happens in our city or to someone we know before we work toward preventing it.

Everyone knows Gigi Hadid is Hollywood royalty, so it's only fitting that the guest list for her 21st birthday party included all of our favorite celebs. The gorgeous supermodel has been celebrating with family and close friends all week long and ended her birthday marathon last night with a star-studded bash at Hollywood nightclub, The Nice Guy.

It's no surprise that fellow model Lily Aldridge and Gigi's supermodel best friend Kendall Jenner showed up for the shindig, but so did a few other members of the Kardashian clan.

Happy birthday Gigi!

Also in attendance was long-time pal, Taylor Swift, along with Hailee Seinfeld and Haim.

But starlets were not all this party had going for it. Gigi had a total of SEVEN cakes (one of which even had her face on it!).

After the party was over, Gigi and boyfriend Zayn Malik drove off in a private car—not a bad way to end the night.

We almost can't even be jealous, seeing as Gigi seems to be one of Hollywood's sweetest celebs. Happy birthday, Gigi!

The 5 Most Common Makeup Mistakes (& How to Fix Them)

$
0
0

From drawing a fierce pair of cat eyes to applying dark eye shadow without making yourself look like a panda, applying makeup well is a pretty hard skill to master. With so many different kinds of makeup and ways to apply it, it can be a bit of a doozy trying to understand what products we’re putting on our faces and how to apply them correctly. HC has you covered with a few tips to help you avoid making these common mistakes.

1. Wearing the wrong foundation

It’s happened to the best of us. You take a few pictures of yourself (with the flash on) during your girls’ night out and look back at them only to find that your face looks a few shades lighter than your neck and your scalp (or a few shades closer to Snooki status than you had in mind). That could mean you’re using the wrong shade of foundation.

When buying foundation, try testing out two colors that are close to your skin tone on your jawline, and see which one disappears more. Or, you could go to any beauty store (such as Sephora) and ask the store clerks to try some shades out on you. Whatever the case, your foundation should appear natural.

2. Wearing too much foundation

As the base of your makeup, foundation can make or break your entire look. The problem, however, is that sometimes we tend to get a little heavy-handed and go overboard, which can cause our skin to look cakey and fake. Foundation is meant to even out your skin tone, so it should be used in moderation, or only when it’s actually needed.

If you tend to get a little too foundation-happy, find a simpler alternative. “For some people, it’s best to go foundation free!” says aesthetician Alicia Hunter. “Foundation can clog pores and highlight imperfections instead of covering them. Go instead with a tinted moisturizer.”

If you want to wear some makeup but don’t want to go too heavy with foundation, try using Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream ($8.99 at Ulta).

3. Over-drawing your eyebrows

We can all agree the full-eyebrow trend is hot right now. But it seems like every girl is on some sort of quest for perfect brows, and a good amount of them are falling victim to overdone, painted on, harsh-looking eyebrows.

If you’re going to fill in your eyebrows with a pencil, use an actual eyebrow pencil (eyebrow pencils don’t smudge as much as eyeliner pencils). Make sure the color of your pencil is just few shades lighter than the color of your brows, since the goal is to subtly enhance the brows, not draw on new ones!

4. Using dirty brushes

Did you know that you’re actually supposed to wash your makeup brushes and tools regularly? It depends on how often you actually wear makeup, but ideally, you should be washing your brushes at least once a week in order for your makeup to continue to look fresh. Dirt and oils can get trapped in the bristles of your brushes, resulting in dirt and oil being transferred to your face and clogging your pores—even causing breakouts.

Cleaning your brushes is actually pretty easy: All you have to do is to swipe your brushes around in a mixture of olive oil (to keep the brushes moisturized) and any brand of dish soap. YouTube makeup guru Michelle Phan even has a tutorial posted on her channel demonstrating the whole process. Check it out here if you’re more of a visual learner.

5. Wearing the wrong nude lip color

The actual meaning of “nude” is relative to the person wearing the shade. Some women, specifically those with darker skin tones, tend to wear nude lipsticks that don’t match their complexions. If your lips are several shades lighter than your face, your lips will look dry and your entire look will be a little clown-like.

If you want to a nude lipstick, find a color that matches your complexion to the point where it looks like you’re not even wearing any lipstick.

If we’re going to be looking our best, it’s important for us to know how to apply makeup the right way. As long as you remember these tips, applying makeup will be a breeze!

7 Subtle Ways to Let Girls Know You Like Girls

$
0
0

Almost every queer girl has been in this situation: You meet a cute girl, and she seems totally into you. You get attached and maybe even ask her on a date… only to find out she was just a friendly straight girl all along. You can avoid this by letting girls know you like girls from the get-go, but it can be awkward to tell a girl you're queer upon meeting her, and even more awkward to ask her if she is. Unfortunately, there's no secret lesbian handshake or queer sonar, so here are a few tips for subtly letting girls know that you like girls.

1. Bring up LGBTQ+ pop culture icons in conversation

Mentioning queer pop culture icons is a great way to steer the conversation in the right direction so that your personal sexual orientation just may happen to come up. For example, "That was so brave of Ellen Page to come out!" is a great prompt to get the convo on the topic of lesbians. If you're talking about TV shows, ask her if she watches MTV's Faking It. The show has drawn in a big queer audience, so there’s a good chance that if she likes it, she likes girls, too!

2. Compliment her... a lot

A compliment and a flirtatious smile go a long way. If she's interested, she'll probably do it right back. Tell her you like her hair, her clothes or anything about her, as long as you mean it! This can create a great start to a friendship or even a relationship. However, there is a fine line between flirting and mere friendly compliments, so make sure your compliments fit into the flirtatious category. And remember, eye contact is key!

3. Mention other girls being hot

Girls call other girls hot all the time, but it can put ideas in someone's head. Talk about some female celebs you think are particularly attractive. Talking about a famous person instead of some random girl will make it so she won't get jealous in case she is interested in you.

4. Wear some pride gear

Wristbands, lanyards, T-shirts... you name it, you can put a rainbow on it. Hopefully she'll get the hint based on your flamboyant fashion, and you won't even have to say anything! Some good places to buy cute pride gear are Spencer's, Hot Topic and American Apparel. You can also try specialty pride stores or websites like Rainbow Depot and MyPrideGear.com, which both have an extensive collection of rainbow items from bow ties to lip appliqués.

5. Add her on Facebook

Who can resist checking the "about" page of her new Facebook friend? If your "interested in" section says "women," she'll undoubtedly take notice. Of course, you can also check out her page and see what her "interested in" section says!

6. "Come out" casually

Burlesque performer, writer and lesbian extraordinaire Eveleena Fults (aka Ivy Les Vixens) recommends coming out as frequently as possible in casual conversation to ensure girls know you're interested in girls. She urges queer girls to say things like, “Oh, yeah, music is cool. My ex-girlfriend was a musician. Her band sucked, but I pretended to be supportive.” It's an easy way to come out without all the dramatics and awkwardness, and it works especially well for femme queer girls like Ivy who don't have the stereotypical lesbian image.

7. Subtlety is key... or not!

Just tell her! If she has a problem with it, do you really want to associate with her anyway? Be more straightforward if you're interested in a girl. Life is too short to waste time beating around the bush. It can be a little awkward, but who cares? Let your rainbow flag fly!

You can still let girls know you like girls without reliving the awkwardness of "coming out." Just remember to never compromise who you are for the sake of a girl. Be yourself and don't feel discouraged if your new friend turns out to be straight or just not interested. There are plenty of fabulous female fish in the sea!

There's no official award for cutest Twitter war, but if there was, the Obamas and the royal family would definitely be the winners.

Earlier this month, Prince Harry challenged the Obamas to "bring it" at the upcoming Invictus Games in Orlando. The multi-sport competition, created by the prince himself, allows sick, injured and wounded military personnel to partake in various athletic events.

Yesterday, FLOTUS Michelle Obama posted a hilarious Twitter video accepting Harry's challenge.

And it wasn't long before Prince Harry responded with his own video, featuring a special guest—yes, that's the queen getting in on the fun!

This Former Child Star Has Some Controversial Views on Marriage

Kirk Cameron, best known for playing Mike Seaver on Growing Pains, has some controversial things to say about the role of men and women in marriage. The former child star is currently on a tour called "Love Worth Fighting For," where he speaks to audiences across America about strengthening their marriages by following the word of God. In a recent interview with Christian Post, Cameron advises wives to honor and respect their husbands—completely normal, right? All people should honor and respect their partners, so long as the honor and respect is reciprocated.

However, he goes on to say wives should "follow their husband's lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband. When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage."

Cameron is a devout Evangelical Christian who has been married to actress Chelsea Noble since 1991. Cameron added, "A lot of people don't know that marriage comes with instructions…We find them right there in God's word."

His sister Candace Cameron Bure (a.k.a. D.J. Tanner from Full House) has voiced similar views of marriage based on her faith, saying that she takes a submissive role relative to her husband. "I love that my man is a leader," she says. "I want him to lead and be the head of the family and those decisions, major decisions, do fall on him. It doesn't mean I don't voice my opinion. It doesn't mean I don't have an opinion. I absolutely do."

While that dynamic may work for them, there are certainly successful marriages in which couples do not subscribe to conventional gender roles. People cannot achieve "real change" in a marriage by completely disregarding their treatment of each other and not helping their partners better themselves, just for the sake of "getting their part right."

What do you think about Cameron's opinions on marriage?

On campus, you're probably used to seeing other girls with ~amazing~ tattoos, but if you haven't gotten inked yet, you might be hesitant about getting your own due to the permanency.

The solution? A cute temporary tattoo. Here are seven that are actually cool, so you can have a little fun as the weather gets warmer without the long-term commitment.

1. Everyday I'm Hustlin ($5 for a two-pack)

That college life, amirite?

2. Balloons ($1.75 for a two-pack)

Just picture all of your finals week stress ~floating away~.

3. Glow-in-the-Dark Big Dipper ($5 for a two-pack)

All eyes will be on your tat at your next concert or themed party.

4. "Late" Watch Tattoo ($5 for a two-pack)

Yeahhh, about that 8 a.m. lecture...

5. C'est La Vie ($1 for one)

Your motto for the rest of the semester (especially once you get your final grades).

Everyone knows that the easiest way to spice up a tired wardrobe is to accessorize, and purses are definitely the most convenient accessory. They're pretty, like a necklace, but hold your entire life inside their perfectly embroidered pockets. What's not to love? We've scoured the internet for the best crossbody bags (because who doesn't like being hands-free?) under $50 to complete your summer wardrobe.

1. Vintage

This ASOS exclusive ($22) is beautifully unique since each one is crafted with vintage fabric and up-cycled vintage pieces. The small bag is not fussy but it is truly a work of art.

2. Juicy

This punchy pouch ($49) adds a playful element to even the most conservative outfit. Not to mention, it's a great conversation starter and looks big enough to carry a real pineapple—a win-win!

3. Scallops

For something a little simpler, we love this classic and preppy convertible crossbody ($30.99) with an adorable scallop detail from Nine West. The bag has a removable strap to easily transform into a clutch so basically it's perfect and already ordered in every color.

4. Wordy

At a loss for words? Let your bag speak for you. This in-your-face Sam Edelman crossbody ($48) is perfect for an edgy outfit for a night out with friends.

5. Fringe

No summer boho look would be complete without fringe. This simple bag from Forever 21 ($39.90) will easily pair with all of your summer staples and add an instant festival vibe.

6. Buckets

Bucket bags are SO in right now. But until we can tell if it's just a passing trend or a classic that's here to stay, it may be better to try a cheaper version before investing in the real deal. This faux leather bucket ($24.90) comes in two colors and won't break the bank.

7. Western

There's nothing better than rolling down the highway with your BFFs blasting country music with the warm summer air blowing through the windows. Now your bag can match the music with this embroidered saddle bag ($30) reminiscent of the Wild Wild West.

Malia Obama Will Attend Harvard in 2017

We’ve spent months wondering where the esteemed First Oldest Daughter would choose to go to college. Would she choose Brown University, where students had to apologize to her after WAY losing their chill over her presence at a party? Would she join the incoming class at NYU’s Tisch school, following up on her interest in film after an internship on the set of Girls?

Nope: “The President and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021,” the White House said in a statement, according to The New York Times. “Malia will take a gap year before beginning school.”

Harvard, of course! This is a decision many of us could have predicted—The most prestigious college in pretty much the entire world (duh), her parents’ law school alma mater, and the choice of several other presidents and presidential children.

Malia’s decision kind of runs counter to advice her mom recently gave to Seventeen magazine: "The one thing I've been telling my daughters is that I don't want them to choose a name," Michelle Obama said a couple of weeks ago. "I don't want them to think, 'Oh I should go to these top schools.' We live in a country where there are thousands of amazing universities. So, the question is: What's going to work for you?"

One could argue that there’s no “name” more name-y than Harvard. But obviously there are many reasons why Harvard is considered one of the best schools in the country, and those must be the reasons Malia picked it.

Now that we know where Malia will be headed come fall 2017, we can start getting excited about what she’ll be up to during her sure-to-be-amazing gap year. Congratulations, Malia!
