What's Wrong With Fandango's List of Most Anticipated Movies This Year?

$

0

Fandango just released their annual list of the Most Anticipated Movies for the upcoming year, and we can't help but feel a little (okay—a lot) disappointed. Take a look at the list, below:

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (December 16)

2. Finding Dory (June 17)

3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25)

4. Untitled Jason Bourne Movie (July 29)

5. Captain America: Civil War (May 6)

6. Star Trek Beyond (July 22)

7. Independence Day: Resurgence (June 24)

8. X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27)

9. Zoolander No. 2 (February 12)

10. The Jungle Book (April 15)

Notice anything off? If you didn't, here's a hint: Finding Dory is the only movie with a female lead (Ellen Degeneres)... and that female lead is animated. Though the list was voted on by viewers, they're not the only ones to blame. It's no secret that Hollywood doesn't quite treat men and women the same. But that doesn't make it easier for us to see it written out so plainly in Fandango's list. After all, there are some amazing women starring in upcoming films, like the kick-ass ladies in the Ghostbusters remake.

Regardless of this less-than-stellar, less-than-inclusive list, there are some amazing female-led films to get pumped about in 2016. The Huntsman: Winter's War, The Girl on the Train, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, to name a few. Which ones are you most excited to see?

5 Ways to Make Wearing Heels Totally Bearable

$

Let’s be honest—we all have that favorite pair of heels we love to wear, but can’t stand the pain they eventually amount to. Instead of throwing them out, there are so many ways to actually make them your feet’s best friends. From easy DIYs to shopping tips, here are five ways to ensure your heels never hurt you again.

1. Break them in beforehand

This one is an obvious, yet simple solution that most people forget about. When you first get your heels, take them on a test run to break them in a few days before you actually wear them out. There are so many ways to break them in, some simple, some wacky, and some just plain DIY.

If you have time to stretch your heels out, you can do it over the course of a week or so just by wearing them around the house for a small period of time each day. But if you don’t have time do to that, you can also loosen the shoes up by bending them a few times and then blowing hot air from a blowdryer on them for a few minutes. Then repeat this process again until they are loose enough for your foot.

Another solution is to peel a large potato and stick it in the front of your shoe. Make sure it is big enough to create a small stretch in the shoe, leave it in overnight, and your shoe should fit a little better!

2. Buy padding or liners

If you don’t have the time to break your shoes in, try using some extra padding to prevent blisters or pain altogether. There are several brands and types of paddings or liners you can buy to put inside your shoes to help with the pain. Dr. Richard T. Braver, an expert podiatrist, recommends Dr. Scholl’s Tri-Comfort Orthotics ($11.49) which helps with pain in all areas of the foot including the heel, arch and ball. If you are experiencing pain specifically in the ball of the foot, Dr. Braver recommends metatarsal pads, such as Dr. Scholl’s P.R.O. Pain Relief Orthotics for the ball of the foot ($10.79).

3. Buy a bigger size

Sounds silly not to buy your proper size in a shoe that is already uncomfortable to begin with, but sizing up just a teeny bit can help you avoid the pain altogether; especially when it comes to pointy-toed pumps. Dr. Braver explains that if your shoes pinch your toes, you may blister or lose feeling in the toes. To help solve this issue, Dr. Braver recommends sizing up your shoes, so that the widest part of the shoe fits the widest part of your foot (which is usually the distance between the big and small toes). When you size up, you want to make sure that the shoe still fits overall and your foot doesn’t fall out of the shoe. If necessary, you can invest in a pair of heel liners, such as Dr. Scholl’s Heel Liners ($6.99), to help prevent the rubbing and slipping of your shoe.

4. Try a smaller heel

While it may seem like the only way to avoid uncomfortable high heels is to opt for kitten heels or to avoid them altogether, there may be a different solution to your pain: platform shoes! We don’t mean the incredibly fabulous ones the Spice Girls used to wear in the '90s; we're talking a more stylish version. With platform shoes, you are still getting the height high heels give you, but are leaving out the pressure the heels put on your feet.

Dr. Braver says that the higher the heel, the more weight that is transferred forward onto the ball of your foot. Platform shoes are designed so that the ball of your foot is raised higher off the ground, which actually decreases the amount of pressure and height the heel is actually compared to your foot.

5. Give your feet a break!

Sometimes the only solution to high heel pain is just to take them off. Dr. Braver says it's better just not to wear heels when you don't need to. So if you want to wear heels to a party, when you arrive and sit down for a few minutes, take off your shoes and wiggle your toes around to let your feet breathe. Or when you’re going to work, wear athletic shoes for ultimate comfort and bring your heels with you to change into. This way you still get to look put together, but your feet will also thank you.

There are so many styles of heels to experiment with if you haven't found a comfortable pair yet. Between these tips and trying out styles such as stilettos, kitten heels, wedges, and even platforms, your feet may never suffer again.

6 Winter Health Woes & How to Solve Them

$

From wearing all of your favorite boots and scarves to playing in the snow, there are so many reasons to love winter. Unfortunately, the chilly weather and dry air during the winter months can also cause a plethora of health issues and worsen preexisting ones.

Common winter ailments can range from minor problems, such as dry skin, to more major issues, like vitamin deficiencies and asthma attacks. Here are some common health problems you might be facing this winter and how to solve them!

1. Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” because most people get it naturally from the sun. Unfortunately, spending more time indoors during the winter may mean you’re not getting this vitamin naturally like you do during warmer months.

Deborah Cochran, a registered nurse at The Good News Clinics in Gainesville, Georgia, says that vitamin D deficiency is extremely common in the winter. “We’re always indoors, and there’s fluorescent lights, so we don’t have the natural light needed for our bodies to produce vitamin D,” Cochran says.

Vitamin D helps with a bunch of different functions of your body, but mainly it helps bones absorb calcium. Being severely deficient in this vitamin could mean your bones may become brittle and misshapen, which could lead to osteoporosis or stress fractures.

It’s recommended that adults get 600 IU (international units) of vitamin D a day. Your body needs about 20 minutes outside without sunscreen a day in order to produce sufficient amounts of this vitamin, Cochran says. You can also get vitamin D from food; a typical low-fat yogurt contains about 20 percent of your daily needs, and a glass of fortified nonfat milk contains about 25 percent of this daily value

If you’ve been feeling symptoms such as fatigue and lack of energy and think you may be deficient in vitamin D, talk to your doctor. He or she may recommend taking a vitamin supplement or increasing your consumption of foods that are rich in vitamin D.

2. Eczema and dry skin

When the weather turns cold and dry, your skin can turn dry along with it. Cochran recommends moisturizing by using natural substances such as almond oil, coconut oil or vitamin E in an oil form. Using oils that your body can absorb naturally will help keep skin moisturized throughout the winter, she says.

Dry, irritated skin is common in the winter, but there could be another underlying cause. If your skin seems flaky, red or more irritated than normal, you may have eczema. Eczema consists of red, dry, itchy patches that can show up anywhere on your skin. The exact cause of eczema isn’t known, but it’s thought to be your body’s immune system reacting to an irritant, resulting in the dry patches.

Eczema may look unattractive, but it isn’t contagious. If you think you have eczema, visit your doctor and he or she can prescribe a topical cream or medication to help clear the rash up.

Cochran says hydration is key to keeping dry skin and eczema at bay. “If you drink enough fluids, then you usually don’t have that dry, cracked skin,” she says.

Whether you’re suffering from a condition like eczema or simply have dry skin, there are a few easy things you can do to help alleviate the problem. Avoid irritants, like scented lotions, detergents and soaps, and consider switching to products made for sensitive skin, like Cetaphil products.

3. SAD (seasonal affective disorder)

It’s normal to feel sad every now and then, but if you’re feeling more than the “winter blues,” you may have SAD, or seasonal affective disorder. So what’s the difference between being sad and having SAD?

The American Psychological Association defines SAD as symptoms of depression that arise seasonally, usually during the colder months of fall and winter. The symptoms are similar to that of depression: feeling anxious, moody or withdrawn, and experiencing severe changes in behavior. SAD is thought to be linked to a chemical imbalance in the brain caused by the drop in sunlight that occurs during the shorter days of winter.

If you’re having any of these symptoms, it’s important to seek help immediately. Many schools offer counseling as part of their student health services, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of this and call your school’s health services to set up an appointment.

4. Asthma

Finding motivation to exercise in the winter is difficult enough, but worrying about asthma can make this even tougher. While cold weather doesn’t cause asthma, cold, dry air can exacerbate asthmatic symptoms such as wheezing, coughing or chest pain.

“I was hospitalized once from an asthma attack I got while walking to class in the winter,” says Alexa Phillips, a University of Delaware graduate. “It gets a lot worse in the cold, and it was so bad by the time I got to class that an ambulance had to be called.”

If you have exercise-induced asthma, try to avoid vigorous exercise outside during chilly temperatures. Serious asthma attacks can be potentially life-threatening, so carry your inhaler with you at all times if you have asthma, and immediately stop exercising if you begin feeling the symptoms of an asthma attack.

5. Circulation problems

If you’ve ever forgotten to wear gloves on your walk to class or gone for a run when it’s just a little too chilly out, you may have noticed your fingers and toes turning a little white from the cold.

While white fingertips and tingling can arise from simply spending too long in the cold, Raynaud’s disease can also cause these problems. Raynaud’s disease is extremely poor circulation caused by the narrowing of small arteries. Sufferers of this disease may notice their fingers, toes or other extremities turning white and tingling in cold temperatures or when they’re stressed.

Women are more likely to have this disease, and genetics likely play a factor as well, so if your mom or another close relative has it, you may too. In most cases, Raynaud’s isn’t serious and is more of a minor annoyance. If you think you may have this, check with your doctor.

However, there is a simple solution for protecting yourself against the cold in winter months. “Just layering is important; making sure you have enough layers on when you go outside,” Cochran says.

6. Constant sickness

Every collegiette knows that when cold weather hits, you can expect there to be a lot more sniffling and sneezing around the dorm and in class. It seems like in the winter, it’s almost impossible to avoid getting sick, but you can take a few preventative measures to lessen your chances of getting illnesses like the common cold.

“Contact is how things are spread, so the basic thing is always hand-washing,” Cochran says. “Just plain soap and water; nothing fancy.”

Cold weather also means flu season, so make sure you get your flu shot! Many schools offer it at the student health center, and pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS also offer the flu shot, often with no appointment needed. The flu can get serious pretty quickly, so it’s important to get immunized if you haven’t done so already.

To avoid falling ill with a cold or another virus, you can take the basic preventative steps: wash your hands, make sure you’re eating right and exercising and try not to spend too much time around people who might be sick.

Whether you’re suffering from a serious health condition or a minor annoyance, winter weather can be frustrating to deal with. Make sure you take care of yourself to avoid falling ill, and if you’re experiencing any unusual symptoms, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor or your school’s health center!

7 Celebrities Who Have Hidden Talents

Some people just aren't satisfied with achieving worldwide fame and success in their respective fields. Here are a few celebrities with additional areas of expertise you might not know about...

1. Emma Watson

As if a leading role in one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, a degree from a prestigious Ivy League university, and a place on TIME 100's list of Most Influential People weren't enough, the Harry Potter star is also an accomplished artist. Her house is filled with her original paintings and drawings. We're not sure how it's even possible for one person to accomplish so many things—we're wondering if there's a Time Turner involved?

2. Kristen Stewart

In an interview on Lopez Tonight in 2010, Twilight's leading lady got to show off her special (and unexpected) talent: juggling. She revealed that she once considered juggling onstage at the MTV Movie Awards, but decided against it for fear of tripping in her heels. It's been a few years, but we're sure K-Stew's still got it!

3. Neil Patrick Harris

In addition to being a singing-dancing-acting triple threat, NPH has a penchant for magic tricks—he's even a former president of Hollywood's world-famous Magic Castle. Harris has loved magic since childhood, and his onscreen personas on shows like How I Met Your Mother and Glee tend to share his affinity. He's also been known to do a few tricks in his guest appearances on talk shows such as Ellen DeGeneres.

4. Cara Delevingne

As if this model-turned-actress landing the lead role in Paper Towns wasn't surprising enough, it turns out Cara Delevingne has quite the singing voice as well. Earlier this year, she took the stage for her first live performance with Pharrell Williams to sing "CC The World," which the two recorded for a short film promoting Chanel's latest campaign. She can play the guitar and drums, too—is there anything this girl can't do?!

5. Colin Farrell

Before he found fame in the movie business, Colin Farrell made his living as a country line dancing instructor in Ireland. Though he gets embarrassed when asked about his dancing days, he's admitted that he made quite a bit of money teaching as a teenager—maybe this could be a new option to consider when you're looking for your next part-time job...

6. Amanda Seyfried

We all knew Amanda Seyfried could predict the weather with her boobs, but did you know she's also an avid knitter? She's described her hobby as therapeutic and often does it while on the elliptical or listening to audiobooks. She's even made hats as gifts for cast and crew members on the sets of her films.

7. Ryan Gosling

When he's not busy claiming his rightful place as one of Hollywood's most swoon-worthy heartthrobs, Ryan Gosling focuses on his musical pursuits. He even released a rock album a few years back as part of a duo called Dean Man's Bones, where he contributed vocals, piano, guitar and bass.

It's incredible how some of the world's most sought-after celebrities find the time to pursue so many different interests. Which of these hidden talents do you find most surprising?

4 Fashion Rules It’s Totally OK to Break (& How to Do It!)

We’ve all heard the typical list of fashion “don’ts” before: “Put away your whites after labor day,” or “Black and navy in the same outfit clash.” Newsflash: breaking a lot of these so-called style rules is actually the secret to some really chic outfits. Don’t believe us? These looks just might change your mind.

1. “Black and navy are a no-go”

It turns out black and navy can actually be a super stylish alternative to your go-to all black look! To make it work, the key is to choose a navy piece that is light enough in color to stand out against your black pieces. A navy pinstripe dress paired with a leather jacket is the perfect way to test-drive the look. For fall, add a grey turtleneck underneath for a cool layered touch. A snake printed bag pops against dark shades!

2. “Only wear one print per outfit”

When it comes to prints, it’s totally possible to rock more than one in an outfit without looking like you got dressed in the dark. (Seriously!) For this look, the striped tee is going to become your new BFF. It mixes well with busier prints, like a plaid skirt for fall, or florals in the spring! The possibilities are endless. Tie the look together with a sleeveless blazer in a solid color.

3. “Put your whites away after Labor Day”

Breaking the Rules: White After Labor Day

Whoever decided that we should move our whites to the back of our wardrobes until May clearly never knew the power of a snuggly white turtleneck sweater! Pairing it with white jeans proves that all white can totally work past Labor Day. To break up your monochrome look, add a camel-colored topper. Accessories like black ankle boots and a burgundy messenger bag look right at home in chilly temperatures.

4. “Never wear socks with sandals”

Breaking the Rules: Socks and Sandals

Choose your socks and sandals wisely, and wearing them together can result in a game-changing way to keep wearing your fave sandals straight into fall! The trick is to pick sandals that are on the strappier side—think cage heels or lace-up sandals. A chunky, knit sock scrunched up at the ankle is the perfect look for fall! Keep the rest of your look simple by wearing your statement footwear with a dress or skirt to show off your killer legs.

Valentine's Day: Girls' Expectations vs. Guys' Reality

$

0

Whether you're single, in a relationship or somewhere in between, we all have an idea of what we expect on Valentine's Day. We hate to admit it, but our expectations are usually 5,000 miles from the reality of how V-Day really goes down. Just because we drop hints doesn't mean our guys pick them up…

Girls' Expectation:

He's going to jump out of bed and get started on his huge plans for the day. He can hardly wait for you to get out of class because he has been planning this for months.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

You'll ask him what he's planned for the day and he'll act all coy, pretending it's nothing big. But you know he has something up his sleeve…

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Before you head out to class for the day, he'll whisper something super romantic and beautiful into your ear.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

You can't wait to get home later, because he totally got you that Tiffany necklace you've been eyeing for months. He probably even got it back in October because he wanted to make sure he had the perfect gift in advance. He's so sweet.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Your phone will be blowing up all day from the cute selfies of him preparing for the big romantic night. One of him cleaning the apartment, another one of him setting the table…maybe even one of him taking a pre-date bubble bath! He knows how to make you laugh while being so adorable.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

He'll be waiting for you when you get home from class with his apartment completely covered in balloons and rose petals. Oh, he is so damn cute!

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

You told him not to get you flowers, but he's not stupid. He'll totally get creative and get you some that are unique and out of the ordinary, but so thoughtful. Maybe daisies that are identical to the ones he picked for you on your first date…

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Oh, and just think of the dinner he's going to make you! Who needs to go out for some overpriced lobster meal when your man is so great (and not to mention sexy) in the kitchen?

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Then he says he has something totally crazy planned. He's probably going to take you to that hole-in-the-wall karaoke bar you begged him to take you to last summer. He's so cute, remembering stuff like that.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Even if his voice sucks, he will give you his best version of classic love songs all the way to this "crazy" date.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

After the crazy (not to mention super thoughtful) date, you suggest a walk before you head home. Of course, he says he couldn't think of anything he'd rather do.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

At the end of the walk, he'll grab you by the waist and pull you in for a slow dance. Just the two of you, dancing away. You always knew he secretly loved dancing.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

When you get home, he'll give you some sexy little show to make you giggle and get you excited…

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

Then he'll pin you up against the wall and you'll have the steamiest hook-up ever. He's so hot and romantic. He always knows how to keep you on your toes.

Guys' Reality:

Girls' Expectation:

And then he insists you stay up all night, talking and laughing about the most random things: "Do you remember how we first met? Or the first thing I said to you? I remember it like it was yesterday." What a perfect end to a perfect Valentine's Day.

Guys' Reality:

On Being A Fat Asian

$

I didn’t know I had an eating disorder until I was 19. Maybe I avoided it all my life, but I don’t think I did. It started when I was very young, when I was about twelve. I was always bigger than the other girls in my class. I was taller, wider and looked older for my age. It’s hard to feel beautiful in a society that gains from playing on people’s insecurities, especially on young women. I was no exception.

Growing up in a traditional Taiwanese household, I was teased by my own family for being fat. It started with the pinching of my cheeks back when I was a baby, but it escalated into calling me ‘whale’ or ‘dumpling’ in front of my face. There was no mercy; my family was cruel, but they thought they were doing me a favor by telling me the truth.

Once, I was at my aunt’s house for the weekend. My aunts and uncles played mahjong, drank stinky beer and drawled obscenities in between drags of cigarettes. One of my aunts said to my mom, right when I was on the other side of the room watching a National Geographic documentary on cheetahs, with her daughter (whom they considered skinny), that I should be so ashamed of how I looked. She claimed that my weight was the reason I had no friends, and that I’d be alone and miserable for the rest of my life. I used to cry in the guest bathroom, pretending I had a stomachache to avoid seeing my family, and the gross concern they had over my body. My mother never suspected anything, but she always agreed with them and told me I needed to eat less. I never thought of talking back to my family, as it was considered disrespectful towards my elders. They also had very thin frames without even trying, and I was like the black sheep.

That Halloween, I donned a witch costume and took my little cousins trick-or-treating around our neighborhood. A classmate of mine laughed when he answered his door. “Witches aren’t supposed to be fat!” he shrieked, and my little cousins giggled too. I laughed nervously, but deep down I wanted to punch him in the face. The next day, I started avoiding my food.

It was easy to skip lunch in school, and study in the library instead. Since I didn’t have many friends, it’s not like anyone noticed. Soon I opted out of breakfast and dinner altogether. I felt light-headed most of the time, and sat out in gym as much as I could, claiming menstrual cramps to my male gym teacher, who just nodded at me and wrote my petty excuse down on his clipboard. I started wearing baggier clothes, hiding my frame in oversized hoodies and sweatpants. I would go two to three days without eating anything, sipping on water for sustenance. When I could no longer handle the hunger pangs that ebbed and flowed in the pits of my stomach, I caved. I tore my kitchen upside down and ate everything in sight that I could get my hands on. I ate like I hadn’t eaten in years. Even if a box of cookies were stale, I still managed to scarf the whole thing down. I washed it all with oolong tea, a staple in my household that I knew promoted fat loss.

In Chinese, losing weight roughly translates to cutting fat. My family would tell me I needed to cut the fat. Before I knew it, I started obsessing over labels, reading their fat contents and studying all I could about nutrition. I would go through this destructive cycle for almost three years. I was so used to eating only once a day, and then not eating at all for another two or three days. My stomach gradually adapted to it, and I started having food allergies. I couldn’t eat grapes or chocolate without having hives appear under my eyes. They were swollen and puffy, like I had been crying for days. Red dots would also appear randomly all over my face; it looked like I had been bitten by mosquitos even in the dead of February.

When I was in college, my roommate was bulimic. I felt nauseous each time I heard her in our bathroom, and finally told her she needed to get help. I just wanted to see her happy, but she told me she would only go if I went too, since she thought I had a binge-eating disorder. We cried in each other’s arms as we realized how poorly we had been treating our bodies, and I finally realized I had an eating disorder. Together, we sought help from the school’s therapists and started eating regularly, starting out with small portions and gradually increasing our food to plate ratios. It was difficult for me, since I never felt I was worthy of kindness, but my therapist assigned me activities and a journal for me to write my thoughts in. I also started creating a schedule, making sure I ate regularly, and wrote down what I ate, as well as any feelings associated with each meal. Although I’ve developed healthier habits since my days as a binge eater, I still wish I wasn’t so affected by my family’s comments. People at school I could handle, but I avoided all social situations regarding my family. It is hard to break out of that cultural shell, and reclaiming one’s body can take many years, but we all deserve to be good to our bodies.

25 Things Only Makeup Addicts Understand

Whether you're a Sephora lover or you're loyal to Ulta until you die, every makeup addict can relate to the following.

1. Winged eyeliner is literally a science

Even we're still trying to figure it out.

2. And you get emotionally unstable when your eyes don't come out perfectly even

ESPECIALLY when you already had your eyeshadow done and you realize you have to redo everything.

3. This face you give yourself in the mirror every morning

It's pretty much impossible to apply mascara without doing it.

4. And this totally accurate meme

Best feeling in the world.

5. You're obviously a Sephora Beauty Insider

Earn 3x points on skin care products? Better buy the whole store.

6. That feeling when you get a makeover from a beauty counter makeup artist

You get to pretend for just a day that you have your very own glam squad.

7. Halloween takes on a whole new meaning

...And also requires several hours of preparation.

8. And, yes, sometimes you get a little carried away

So what?

9. But let's be honest: You weren't always a makeup queen. Your teenage years definitely looked something like this

You know, back before you knew how to correctly prime, conceal, stipple, blend, line, smudge, contour and strobe.

10. But you've totally got this whole makeup thing down now

Yes, you've even become a pro at (some of) these insanely complicated (and just straight up insane looking) makeup methods.

11. And you've mastered your signature look

Whether it's a bold red lip and black winged eye, bold brows and a simple swipe of mascara or a more natural, nude look.

12. All thanks to your obsesseion with YouTube makeup tutorials

You binge watch them like they're Netflix.

13. Proving that you've transformed your look significantly since your more awkward years

Thank God.

14. At the expense of your wallet, which has been on a serious diet ever since you discovered your love for designer products

But hey, at least you got free shipping (...because you spent over $50, but no one needs to know that...)

15. But it's made you get your priorities straight

How can you cry when you've got $32 mascara on?!

16. That look you give yourself when you're doing your makeup and you know you look good

*Praying you actually see people today so your makeup doesn't go to waste.*

17. Your phone is full of selfies showing your best looks

...That you quickly try to delete before anyone scrolls through your photo library.

18. There are major faux pas that you should never bring up to a makeup addict

Like, "Do you really need 20 shades of the same lipstick?" or, "What's the point of having all four Naked palettes?"

19. Or when someone gets too close to your fresh face of makeup

Back. off. please.

20. The feeling of pride you have when a younger sister, cousin or family friend starts wearing makeup and totally skips the awkward phase

No racoon eyes? No cakey foundation or streak marks? No electric blue eye shadow? Teach us your ways!

21. Wearing makeup isn’t always fun and games

Please just don't look at me.

22. Like when you wake up late and hardly have any time to get ready

You'd think we would have learned by now.

23. Or that annoying moment when you have to do a touch up in public and you see someone hardcore judging you

Can you just not?

24. But as much as we love putting make up on, we equally love taking it off

So refreshing.

25. And most of all, this:

And we are just as comfortable without it, too!

Single ladies, this one's for you! Instead of stressing about your relationship status or watching The Notebook with a box of tissues, make a date with your couch and one (or all) of these feel-good chick flicks this Valentine's Day.

1. Pretty Woman(1990)

This film has all of the ingredients of a modern-day fairy tale, and we never get tired of watching Julia Roberts get the princess treatment from Richard Gere.

Memorable quote: “I want the fairy tale.”

2. Easy A(2010)

As the ever-sassy and hilarious Olive Penderghast, Emma Stone reminds us why we love her so much. It's The Scarlet Letter for the 21st century (but, unlike in your English class, you'll actually pay attention this time around!).

Memorable quote: “I want John Cusack holding a boom box outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawn mower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an '80s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason.”

3. Clueless(1995)

Clueless isn't just a '90s chick flick; it's the'90s chick flick. Fabulous outfits? Check. Witty dialogue? Check. Adorable, young Paul Rudd? Check.

Memorable quote: “Searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie."

4. Breakfast at Tiffany's(1961)

When all else fails, we can always turn to this classic Audrey Hepburn film that makes us want to be a glamorous New York City socialite.

Memorable quote: “People do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that’s the only chance anybody’s got for real happiness.”

5. The Princess Diaries(2001)

If only we could all find out that we’re secretly the princess of a foreign country! Plus, this film has one of the greatest makeovers of all time.

Memorable quote: “Because you saw me when I was invisible."

6. 27 Dresses(2008)

If you’ve been in love with someone who doesn’t know you exist or had to listen to a friend gush about a guy while you’re feeling like you’re going to be #foreveralone, you can definitely sympathize with Katherine Heigl’s character!

Memorable quote: "Get over here."

7. Pitch Perfect(2012)

Everything about the movie is an ultimate mood-booster! It’s the perfect blend of funny and heartwarming.

Memorable quote: "Even though some of you are pretty thin, I think that you all have fat hearts."

8. Crazy, Stupid, Love(2011)

Ryan Gosling. SHIRTLESS Ryan Gosling. Need we say anything else?

Memorable quote: "I will never stop trying, because when you find the one, you never give up."

9. 13 Going on 30(2004)

It’s hard to not want to get up and dance along with Jennifer Garner to “Thriller,” and the '80s flashbacks are priceless.

Memorable quote: “Love is a battlefield.”

10. She's the Man(2006)

Amanda Bynes kills it as a dude in this hilarious movie, which features a hot, soccer-playing Channing Tatum. Yes, please!

Memorable quote: “Heels are a male invention designed to make a woman's butt look smaller. And to make it harder for them to run away."

11. Bridesmaids(2011)

With Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph, this movie is guaranteed to have you cracking up from beginning to end.

Memorable quote: “I don't associate with people that blame the world for their problems. Because you're your problem, and you're also your solution."

12. John Tucker Must Die(2006)

You have to love a movie about three scheming girls getting sweet revenge on the guy who cheated on all of them. And props to Penn Badgley for somehow still looking good while rocking that hairdo!

Memorable quote: “I wish it could be simple, like a retro pop song: 'I want you to want me.' Boom, end of story, we all live happily ever after.”

13. Mean Girls(2004)

No chick flick list would be complete without Mean Girls, our generation's favorite movie to quote. How many times have we watched pre-rehab LiLo take on the Plastics? THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST.

Memorable quote: “Calling somebody else fat won't make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter."

Name: Tania Boler
Job Title and Description: Co-Founder and CEO of Chiaro, a women's wearable technology startup
College Name/Major: University of Oxford (BA), Stanford University (MA), and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Doctorate in Women’s Health)
Website: elvie.com
Twitter Handle: @taniabeeb

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Tania Boler: I have two small kids at home, so my day is pretty busy to say the least. I spend an hour with the kids and that is pretty much when the routine ends! At work, we are going through a fast growth period, so days are pretty unpredictable. I currently divide my time between recruitment, business development as we build our distribution network and meeting with journalists and partners. Oh and like any tech co-founder, constantly raising money!

What is the best part of your job?

TB: Creating something that helps people feel better about themselves.

What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?

TB: Bringing a product to market inevitably takes longer and costs more than you think it will.

Who is one person who changed your professional life for the better?

TB: My co-founder Alexander Asseily – because as the founder of Jawbone, he has already been through everything I am currently going through and knows what it is like.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

TB: Listening to people who don’t know what they are talking about. People love sounding knowledgeable. It took me a while to realize that lots of the advice I was given was mostly based on that person’s business and not that relevant to mine.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

TB: The first time we found out that someone seriously famous was using Elvie, our product.

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

TB: Something unusual in their CV. Something to show that this person has independence of thought.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

TB: Don’t worry if there are lots of things you don’t know about – your learning curve will be really steep and that is part of the fun. Be determined. You need to be the kind of person who doesn't give up as it will always take longer and cost more money than you expected.

Anne Hathaway Defends Jennifer Lawrence in An Awesome Way

Jennifer Lawrence has recently received criticism for calling out a reporter during a Golden Globes press conference. While many believe the actress acted rudely, Anne Hathaway recently released a statement on Facebook defending her fellow actress.

J-Law had originally said to a reporter, “You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro.” Hathaway spoke up to say Lawrence wasn’t being rude. Instead she explains Jen's comment had been taken out of context and she had only been “dryly joking.” Society, Hathaway says, needs to stop bullying others and instead build them up.

Dear the Internet,It's become pretty clear that the Jennifer Lawrence "scolding" was taken out of context and that she...

Posted by Anne Hathaway on Friday, January 15, 2016

Hathaway isn’t the first person to defend Lawrence. A reporter who was inside the pressroom when the public “scolding” occurred said that Lawrence was anything but rude. Lawrence merely wanted the reporter to be “present” during the conference.

We love the girl power Hathaway is sending to her former co-star. It’s so true that we need to work on building each other up instead of tearing others down. While it’s hard to know exactly how J-Law meant her comment, she is known for her witty, dry jokes so it’s probably safe to say she meant no harm by it. Given everything Lawrence has accomplished, this isnot what she should be remembered for.

7 Grown-Up Valentine's Day Dates That Aren't Dinner & a Movie

Every year on February 14th, couples plan a romantic day to shower their significant others with love. As far as date ideas, a lot of couples stick to the same routine—dinner and a movie. But who wants to do that every year? It can get a little stale. Instead of calling your favorite restaurant and making a reservation this Valentine's, try out these other fun ideas!

1. Go on a grown-up scavenger hunt

Dates can get nerve-wracking, especially if you're in the early stages of a relationship. Instead of heading to dinner and a movie—where things can feel a little awkward—try planning a fun scavenger hunt!

"I love the idea of a bookstore scavenger hunt," says Ashley Coker, a student from Bryan College. "You go to the bookstore of your choice with a list of tasks to accomplish. You each find a recipe you want to try, a children's book you used to love, or a place you want to visit."

A bookstore scavenger hunt is a great way to learn about each other's interests and can be a fun way to break the ice! You just don't get that sort of one-on-one time during a movie.

2. Get physical

Just because it's Valentine's Day doesn't mean that you can't get your fitness on! If both of you are exercise buffs (and even if you're not), do something that gets your adrenaline pumping. Bounce around at a trampoline park, get involved in a Valentine's-themed 5K, or hit up an indoor rock climbing wall.

If it's a snowy Valentine's, take advantage of the winter weather, suggests Kayla Lewkowicz, a Colby College graduate. "I think something active like snowshoeing, skiing, or an old fashioned snowball fight [could be fun, too]," she says.

3. Make it an arcade night

Arcades aren't just for kids anymore. Adult arcades, like YESTERcades and Dave & Busters, are great date night venues. You can grab a quick bite to eat and spend the evening enjoying all kinds of fun games and rides. Make it competitive and see who can win the most tickets. If your date wins you a prize, hello, major #relationshipgoals.

Heading to an arcade is a great way to channel your inner child, but so is staying in and bringing back a childhood favorite activity. "I'm all about building a fort in your apartment and being a kid again," says Kayla. Now that sounds like fun.

4. Head to an exciting part of town

Exploring a new city can be an exciting and memorable experience. If you're venturing out with your significant other on Valentine's Day, walking around a fun city or town center can be all that more romantic.

"I love the idea of spending the weekend in the city," says Brianna Susnak, a student at Indiana University. "You could spend Valentine's Day in the city with your SO doing fun things, like trying different coffees/foods, going out for drinks, or exploring."

5. Go on a paint and wine date

Paint and wine nights are becoming increasingly popular, and while it may seem like a fun girls' night idea (which it is!), it can also be a great Valentine's Day go-to. Who doesn't want to spend a relaxing night, sipping wine and creating a masterpiece together? It's a great opportunity to learn more about each other, and you both get to bring home a souvenir from the night. You can even trade paintings with your SO, so they have something to remember the date by!

6. Pretend it's your first date

An interesting way to spice up any kind of night out is to do a little role-playing and pretend that's it's your first date!

"My girlfriend and I [went on a date] where we pretended it was our first date," says Alaina Leary, a social media assistant for the We Need Diverse Books organization. "We went out as if we were new to each other and didn't know each other very well. It was honestly really interesting and kind of fun!"

Pretending it's your first date, or even re-enacting your actual first date, can be nostalgic and romantic.

7. Go dancing

It doesn't matter if you're a novice or a pro—find a place to take dancing lessons! You'll learn a new skill, more about your SO, and you might even make some new couple friends! Plus, you can break out those moves whenever you're at a wedding, formal, or backyard BBQ.

Whether you plan a fun day out or decide to spend a romantic evening in your pajamas, Valentine's Day is all about letting your significant other know how much you care about them. Now, excuse us while we build our pillow forts. Happy Valentine's Day!

Jada Pinkett Smith May Boycott the Oscars

Jada Pinkett Smith took to Twitter recently to vent her frustration about the lack of diversity (again) amongst this year’s Academy Award nominees. It appears the actress may be considering boycotting the event altogether—and we can’t say we really blame her.

On January 16, Pinkett put out a series of tweets about how there are no black actors nominated in the top categories. The nominee announcement has been so ill received that it immediately inspired the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite for the second time. The lack of diversity in the Oscars nominations have always been a problem and Pinkett said what many of us have been thinking about this ongoing trend.

While it may seem extreme for an actress to refuse to attend a classic awards show because of the nominees (or lack thereof), this may be just what the world needs to realize that this lack of diversity is not okay. We hope more celebrities voice their opinions and fight for equal representation in award nominations!

A clean desk can lead to a successful life, but that doesn't mean your desk can't be super stylish at the same time. These DIY tips can help you on your way to a successful year and life!

1. Hang your calendar

This may seem like something a ton of people do, but creating your own calendar and hanging it up is the perfect way to organize your desk! This My Fabuless Life idea makes for a chic wall decoration and organization technique in one!

2. Stick with a color scheme

Leah Remillet proves that it’s important to stick with a color scheme when dressing up your desk. Choose two or three colors that work well together, and make sure to find (or DIY!) a few odds and ends that match.

3. Watercolor calendar

You’ll never forget what day it is again! Thanks to Annabode + CO., you don’t have to buy a new calendar every year. All you need is an old frame, some rub-on letters and patterned paper. In about an hour, you’ll have a calendar to keep for years to come.

4. Hanging wall file

File holders can be not only functional but decorative if you're willing to give them some TLC. Find some stencils and spray paint the designs whatever color you'd like. Once these dry, hang them on your wall, just like Emily Henderson did! No need to have your papers scattered all over your desk; elevate them and gain some much-needed space!

5. Gold pencil holder

We’ve all been known to spend way too much money at Anthropologie, but if you’re trying to jazz up your desk on a budget, View From the Fridge has the perfect solution. Make your own version of this insanely popular Anthro pencil holder for under five dollars. See, you don't have to break the bank for a nice accessory.

6. Label your inner desk storage

The struggle to keep the inside of your desk organized is one we all feel. Good Housekeeping suggests labeling your drawer organizers. That way you’ll never have to wonder where your things are hiding.

7. Shoebox shelving

So your desk doesn’t have any shelving? No problem! It's time to finally find a use for all those shoeboxes that are littering your apartment. Lifehack recommends simply stacking and pinning multiple shoeboxes together to create your own shelving unit.

8. Mouse pad

If your best friend is your computer mouse, then Kitty Cotten is here to give your pal a home. Cut out a piece of cork and accent the exposed edges with gold flakes. In no time, you’ll have a stylish mouse pad.

9. Jazzy letter holders

Need a way to store your most important papers? Just Destiny Mag has the cutest DIY version of a Kate Spade letter holder that should do the trick. Find some colorful cardstock and attach it to the front of each drawer. Label the drawers as desired, and you're done!

10. Desk caddy

Go through cereal like it’s your job? Aunt Peaches has an upcycle you'll be dying to try. Save a few empty boxes and duct tape them together for an all-in-one storage container!

11. Picture desk

If you have zero wall space, this StageTecture DIY is the ideal solution. Pick out some of your favorite pictures and place them on your desk. Put down a clear acrylic sheet, and you have your own custom nook.

12. Tape frames

Frames can get expensive, and nails can severely damage your walls. Why not hang up your art with some washi (or electrical) tape, like Katherine Elizabeth did. These custom frames will not only make your walls really pop, but they’ll come off without a problem.

13. Fabric buckets

Get your sewing machine ready. Apartment Apothecary proves that you don’t have to spend tons of money at the craft store on fabric containers. You can make and personalize your own. Say hello to a warm, inviting and classy desk.

14. Printer tray

Does your printer take up way too much room on your small desk? Fear no more, because with a little help from Idle Hands Awake, it’s super easy to make this rollable printer tray. Yes, you might need some power tools to accomplish this, but it’ll be well worth it for the extra space!

15. Spray paint your accessories

Jill Cimorelli proves that spray painting your accessories can give your desk a more unified look. There's no need to go out and buy new things, trying to perfectly match your color scheme. Rather, spray paint your favorite odds and ends. It’ll look like you spent hundreds on your desk accessories, when you really upgraded your fave trinkets from the flea market.

16. Revamp a cheap desk with fake marble vinyl

You can definitely find a cheap desk at the local thrift store. Want to make it look like you spent more than $15? Apply fake marble vinyl, as Anneorshine has done in the video above. Your friends will think you spent way too much money on your desk. But don’t worry—we’ll keep your secret!

Desk envy anyone?
