0
0

This spring, #ThrowbackThursday is every day—the '70s-inspired look is taking the fashion world by storm this season. While we’re all for some fringe and round sunnies, it can definitely be tough to pull off the throwback look without looking like you’re wearing a costume. The secret to '70s chic? Most of this season’s trendiest pieces look super on-point with staples you already own—add one or two retro pieces and to your favorite basics to let it do the talking! Get ready for your chicest #TBT yet.

1. A-line skirts are everything

The major skirt shape to score those '70s vibes? The A-line skirt. While suede versions of this shape seem to by flying off the racks everywhere, you don’t need major $$$ to get the look! Try a corduroy or faux suede version, which is way more budget friendly. To modernize this classic shape, add basics you already have in your closet, like your favorite denim jacket and a striped crop top!

2. Show some shoulder

An off-the-shoulder top in a retro, super bohemian-esque print is the perfect way to add a little color to your look! To make it new and now, black high-waisted jean shorts tone down the look—and what better way to show some leg than in super summery gladiator sandals? Finish off the look with boho accessories, like a bucket bag and dainty leaf necklace.

3. Platforms please!

When you’re wearing multiple '70s-inspired pieces at once, boyfriend jeans add the perfect dose of modern to your outfit. (And who doesn’t love their combined comfy-cute factor?) A tie-collar blouse is the perfect way to add a subtle touch of throwback. Dress it up with platform heels and a cobalt blue fringe bag for a colorful twist on your typical tan suede! Top it off with round sunnies—a necessity for those warm spring days.

Will you be trying the '70s trend this spring, collegiettes?

How Girls Clean Their Rooms

0
0

You finish classes for the day and think maybe it’s time you tidied up your living space.

You think it won’t be too hard…

...until you look at the state of your room. Then, you’re like:

So you get started with the hardest part: your clothes (that are all over the place).

You wonder how you have so much of them, until you remember:

You try to organize your closet (by style… or color?), but it’s like:

So you throw everything onto a hanger or in the hamper and call it good.

Now it’s time to clean your desk!

So you sort some old term papers and cheat sheets…

...and find a ridiculous number of textbooks — that you opened once or twice, at most — from previous classes. You spent how much money on these?!

You finish cleaning your desk after throwing away that disgusting takeout box that’s been hiding behind a stack of magazines.

The only mess remaining is random junk, like beauty products and empty juice bottles, so you take a short break from cleaning.

You decide to redo your nails after rediscovering an adorable color...

...but five minutes turns into an hour-long beauty session and soon you're like:

Wait, what were you supposed to be doing again? Oh, right…

Maybe going through your makeup stash and nail polish collection was a bad idea.

But you just applied a second coat, so you promise you'll get back to cleaning right after this episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix.

Which leads into three more episodes...

…which leads to an unexpected nap. When you finally wake up to a half-cleaned room, you’re like:

It’s already late at night though, so you say you’ll finish cleaning tomorrow.

Because cleaning your room in one sitting always proves to be impossible.

5 Easy Ways to Get Sandal-Ready Feet

0

You know summer is right around the corner when you’re looking up new lemonade recipes on Pinterest and playing “Summertime Sadness” on loop. But you’re not ready for sandal season until you’ve picked out the perfect mani-pedi combo to show off those toes in style! We’ve assembled some of the easiest at-home treatements to get those piggies ready to be primped and pretty.

1. Moisturize

The simplest step is the most important step. Make sure you are taking good care of your feet by moisturizing daily. We like Burt Bees’ Peppermint Foot Lotion ($9). This is especially important after showering.

2. Overnight sock treatment

This might sound a little odd, but using a moisturizer and wearing socks to bed is a surefire way to wake up with soft feet! Apply Vaseline or lotion, massaging your feet as you do so. Put on a pair of fluffy socks and tell your dry feet goodbye!

3. Foot soak

Think of this as a relaxing hot tea for your toes. Combine dried herbs of your choosing (lavender, sage, mint, etc.) into a sachet. Place into a footbath or tub with warm water. Dip your feet in and relax! Alternatively, you can use essential oils.

4. Foot scrub

Sugar scrubs aren’t just for your face. They work wonders for feet, too! Some of the most popular scrubs are made up with incredients like lemon and sugar, mouthwash and epsom salt (for real!) and coconut oil. Whip up your own jar of scrub for silky smooth feet. They would make great DIY gifts too!

5. Foot peel

A slightly gross but effective option, foot peels remove dead skin cells from the bottom of your feet. The gross factor is that you experience a lot of shedding. But the results are fresh-faced feet that simply beg for a pedi. Baby Foot ($25) is the most popular choice!

Why You Should Say 'No' More Often

0
0

In a world where we’re constantly reminded that we have the same number of hours in a day as Beyoncé does, it’s easy to think that we can do it all. Women in particular are guilty of seeing life as a checklist: The more things we can accomplish by the end of the day, the more successful we consider ourselves. It’s almost as if we’re in a competition to see who can juggle the most obligations. Sounds kind of silly when you think about it, right?

We’ve become obsessed with saying “yes” to everything. We say yes to things—even things we don’t really want to do—because we’re afraid to make someone feel bad, or to miss out on what might be a great opportunity. We constantly have FOMO (fear of missing out), so we spread ourselves too thin and sometimes end up wishing we hadn’t put so much on our plates. Saying “no” seems scary, but in certain situations it might just be the best thing for you.

Why do we want to say yes to everything?

Between balancing friends, school, love interests and internships, we’re constantly trying to manage everything. We don’t feel like we’re doing enough unless we’re doing it all—and there are a few reasons for that. Part of it is the society we live in. People, especially young adults, are expected to have a social life, date around, maintain good grades and build up our résumés. (We, for the record, are perfectly content substituting the whole “social life” thing for binge-watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. But, you know.)

A big part of that pressure, however, also just comes from being a woman. “It’s how [women’s] brains work,” Dr. Janet Taylor, a psychiatrist in New York, says. “Even when we’re stressed, we will ‘tend and befriend’ (a term used among psychologists to describe females’ reaction to stress) and put the needs of others first. It leads to a tendency to be inclusive even when we don’t want to be.”

We eventually face the consequences of not saying “no” enough, and, trust us, said consequences are worse than a little bit of FOMO.

The consequences of always saying yes

The first problem with saying yes to things you really don’t have enough time to do is that you might not even get the chance to do them. Dr. Rick Brinkman, co-author of the international best-selling books, Life by Design and Dealing with People You Can’t Stand: How to Bring Out the Best in People at Their Worst, points out that, when you take on too many things, you really can’t win.

“Some people will do it half-a**,” he explains. “Some end up not doing it and making promises that can’t be kept. Other people bust their a**es and get it done and have no time for themselves.”

Regardless of how you do (or don’t) get the job done, you’re overworking yourself and stressing yourself out—but it’s Dr. Brinkman’s third alternative that seems to be the most common among college women. When we have a full schedule week after week, things like sleep, exercise and even personal hygiene may often be the last things on our minds. According to Dr. Taylor, millennial women (cough, cough) are especially guilty of not making enough time for themselves. She says we are reporting higher levels of stress, most likely because we think we can do everything.

“It takes a toll on your body,” Dr. Taylor explains. “Between things like fatigue, depression and anxiety, overworking yourself changes how you feel.”

As a mother of four daughters, Dr. Taylor says she knows that finding that perfect balance is much harder said than done, but she still urges collegiettes to make an effort. “You have to find ways to exercise, sleep, take care of yourself and have positive social support,” she says. “It’s all about making time to do things your body needs.”

Saying yes to something means saying no to other opportunities

As much as we would all like to have more than 24 hours in a day, we don’t. We simply don’t have the time to do everything, which means that we should really only be saying yes to the things that we truly need to do or enjoy doing. Dr. Brinkman says that saying no can actually be a very empowering experience, if you think about it in the right way.

“Anytime you say yes to something in the here and now, you’re saying no to a whole lot more,” he explains. Instead of looking at turning down possible opportunities in a negative way, Dr. Brinkman encourages that we think about all we will get to do in that extra time. Maybe it’s getting another two hours of sleep or actually having time to go to the gym.

For Kylie*, a junior at the University of Miami, saying no meant avoiding a whole lot of stress. When she was asked to an overnight fraternity formal for a weekend, she was conflicted between wanting to go and staying back to get other things done.

“Usually, I’d be excited and flattered, but the formal is the weekend before I have about 40 pages worth of essays due and two exams,” she says. “Plus, it's the weekend of my friend's 21st birthday, and we have big plans. I was tempted to say yes to a carefree weekend with friends, but it wasn't the right choice for me. I'm glad I said no even though I felt bad about turning him down.”

Although she may have missed out on a cool weekend, she got to celebrate her friend’s birthday and avoid that Sunday feeling of having skipped an entire weekend of studying before a big test week. Win, win.

How to start saying no

If you’re a girl whose planner is as important as the air she breathes, you know that keeping track of all of your obligations is a great way to stay organized. When your schedule for the week is completely full, you should know better than to try and tackle yet another obligation. As Dr. Taylor reminds us, stacking up more responsibilities is only going to lead to you getting stressed out. If you know your sleep or personal health will be compromised by saying yes to something, you should definitely feel okay to say no.

There are other times when we think we have the time to do something, and even though we’re not sure, we end up saying yes anyways. In order to avoid this, Dr. Brinkman suggests that we keep track of how long our must-do tasks take us.

For example, if you know that doing your reading for your marketing class usually takes you about three hours and that a dinner for a friend’s birthday will take around two, consider those things before you say yes to anything else for that day. If you know (and actually think about) how much time the things you’ve already said “yes” to—or things you absolutely have to do—take, you’ll have a good idea of how much extra time you’ll have to spend on other things.

Dr. Brinkman’s second suggestion is similar something we’ve all been guilty of doing at some point or another: Making a yes versus no list. If you’ve ever drawn a line (hot-dog style, of course) down the center of your paper and written “Pro” on one side and “Con” on the other, you’re already ahead of the game. Next time you’re deciding between multiple opportunities, label the sides of your paper with “Yes” and “No.”

Dr. Brinkman says to ask yourself: “What are things you want to say ‘No’ to so that you have time to say ‘Yes’?” This way, you won’t be thinking about your decision in terms of what you’ll be missing out on. Instead, your mind will be focused on that extra episode of Netflix you could watch (yes, we'd say this is a priority) or the lunch you’d have time to grab with an old friend.

Remembering that you can only do so much will make it a lot easier to say no—because you’ll only be thinking about how many things you’ll have the opportunity to say yes to.

6 Reasons it’s Okay That You Don’t Have Your Dream Job Yet

0
0

Instead of working that nine-to-five you’ve always dreamed of after graduation, you might be starting a job that isn’t exactly a perfect fit for you. Maybe you have few responsibilities, long hours or a lengthy commute—but don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world! Besides making money to pay off those troublesome loans, here are a few more reasons why it’s okay you didn’t land your dream job right away as well as some tips from experts on how to work towards it.

1. You’ll be able to gain helpful work experience for the future

Although it may not be your number one choice, your current job can serve as an opportunity to gain experience in your field. If you didn’t have enough time to balance an internship while taking classes during the school year, this is the perfect time to gain the hands-on experience you need to get the job you want. Most employers typically want job candidates with a year or two of previous work experience in the field, whether it’s for an entry-level position or higher. This job will give you a chance to build your resume, and since you’ll have more time on your hands, you can take on more tasks to improve your skills within your desired field. You’ll be ready to wow your dream employer with what you’ve learned in no time.

2. You’ll have the opportunity to network effectively

Networking at your current job is important for many reasons. Just knowing the right people can help you advance your career by opening up job opportunities or landing you a great recommendation. Lesley Mitler, president of career coaching service Priority Candidates, Inc., says you should definitely take the time to get to know your coworkers and participate in any events you can. Holiday parties, sports teams and volunteer work with your coworkers will help you establish relationships you can count on in the future. “You can learn something of value from everyone you work with and work for,” she says.

Marcy Williams, CEO of Commonwealth Management and Consulting, says “in order to obtain your dream job, you should surround yourself with people that already have what you desire.” Attending work functions will help you create contacts and introduce you to people in your field and possibly a job opportunity. “Oftentimes, your dream job is waiting for you, but you need to be in the ‘know’ in order to know,” Williams says. Who knows, maybe one of your newly found contacts has a friend at your dream company who can help you out!

3. You can define your dream job more narrowly

You might have an idea of what your dream job looks like, but oftentimes the reality is different from the image you have in your mind. Your current job can help you figure out exactly what you want and what you don’t want in your dream job—whether that means the size of the company or its structure. You can also learn about your preferred specifics, such as travel time, location or career advancement opportunities.

“There will be aspects to any job that you enjoy and other parts that you find less enjoyable,” Mitler says. Not only will you learn what is important to you when you search for your dream job, but you will also learn more about yourself. For example, what type of management style do you respond to best? What are some of your strengths and weaknesses at this type of job? By figuring out which tasks you do well and which ones need work, you can gear yourself towards a specific job within the career you want.

4. You’ll have more opportunities to move up in the future

Your first job right after college can be the first step in moving up the ladder of success. Sometimes starting out at the bottom end of a company is the perfect way to prove you belong there, even if it’s at a different department or branch. “No matter what job you are in, your goal should be to excel and impress,” Mitler says.

While you may not be doing exactly what you want to be doing, this is the perfect opportunity to show employers what you can do. Working hard at your current job can help you get noticed and maybe even promoted, but it’s also a good idea to take on more responsibilities outside of your job description. By helping out another team or department, employers are sure to notice you!

5. You can polish your skills

This is your chance to acquire the necessary skills in your field in order to perform better at your dream job. Research the required skills of the company in which you want to work and perfect them in order to make you a better candidate. Use your current job to show potential employers that your skill sets align with what your dream job requires. Take advantage of opportunities at your current position to learn new leadership or time management skills you will need in the future. Asking for extra responsibility can help you become more knowledgeable in the field. Mitler says you should understand the skills you need to transition to your dream job and build them at your current job.

6. You’ll be able to earn a higher salary in the future

Since some salaries are based on work experience, your current job can actually help you when it comes to making more money! More work experience after graduation could potentially mean you’ll be earning a higher salary when you do finally land your dream job. Employers usually want job candidates who really know what they’re doing, so what you learn from your current job will give you more room to negotiate your pay.

Landing your dream job right out of college is definitely challenging for many collegiettes in today’s economy. If you have a job but it’s not exactly what you wanted, remember to always do your best work while continuing to work towards your goal. Sometimes your current job can actually benefit you in your search!

'Basic' Has Just Been Added to the Dictionary

0

Do all of your Instagram photos feature selfies of you and your friends giving your best duck faces? Are you obsessed with all things pumpkin spiced? Is a good portion of your vocabulary abbreviated? If you answered 'yes' to all three of these questions, then we have news for you:

The word 'basic' and the women it's been used to describe have both been getting a pretty bad rap lately. But the good news for all you who literally can't even is that your basic nature may have just been validated. Along with a slew of other ridiculous words that have managed to wiggle their way into our vocabulary, an updated definition of 'basic' has just been added to Dictionary.com. Aside from the standard definition of the word, the updated definition now includes the following:

a. (especially of a female) characterized by predictable or unoriginal style, interests, or behavior:

Those basic girls who follow trends.

b. (of things) boringly predictable or unoriginal:

His lyrics are just so basic.

"We noticed that these new senses are being used exclusively as slang in casual contexts," Jane Solomon, Dictionary.com's lexicographer, told the Huffington Post. "These particular senses of basic started out as African-American slang. In this context, the adjective was originally used as a way to call someone out (usually a woman) on immature or obtuse behavior. As the term achieved widespread usage, people began to use it in reference to material displays (drinking pumpkin spice lattes, wearing Uggs, caring about brand names) that they believed to be indicative of shallow behavior."

The site added and modified over 1,000 words in their latest update on Wednesday. Other words added include brogrammer (a male computer programmer who is characterized as a bro), revenge porn (sexually suggestive images of someone, typically a former romantic partner, that are posted online without the person's consent), and ship (to take an interest in a romantic relationship between fictional characters or famous people). You can find the full list of new words on the site's blog. Maybe, if we're lucky, someone will finally add the word 'yasss' to dictionary as well. In due time.

11 Thoughts You Have When You’re Sober at a Party

0
0

Whether you showed up late, ran out of alcohol or just didn’t feel like drinking, it happens. You find your way into a party filled to the brim with drunk, stumbling strangers dancing badly to overplayed music, and you’re 100 percent sober. When you’re drunk, you don’t have the mental ability to fully evaluate just what a party is truly like. On the other hand, sober partygoers have the full experience to take in, and many thoughts unknown to the drunken community cross their minds.

1. There are way too many people in this room right now.

Seriously, this has to be some sort of fire code violation. The smell should be, at least.

2. I wonder if there's any food here.

Forget drinking; I'm so hungry. Would anyone really notice if I took a peek through the fridge?

3. This conversation is dreadful.

Sorry, but I don't give a hoot about your fraternity.

4. I can’t dance.

What is rhythm? What are dance moves? I feel so awkward. I should just sit down.

5. Where are all of the cute guys?

Without my beer goggles, it's nothin' but threes and fours errywhere.

6. I'm amazing at beer pong.

When Franzia isn't messing with my hand-eye coordination, I've actually got a pretty decent shot! Ball is life.

7. Why do people like this song?

No, I do not want to go all night longer. I really don't think I can endure the entire three and a half minutes of this.

8. Did he really just use that pick-up line?

That might have got a laugh if I was schwasted, but all it's getting now is a major cringe. Hard pass.

9. Please stop dancing like that.

You’re embarrassing me and I don’t even know you. Oh, sweetie - no. Get off the table.

10. Dude, are you okay?

Stumbley over here needs a glass of water and a cab home pronto.

11. I miss my bed.

My comforter could cuddle me so much better than any of these contenders. I'm outta here.

Why Emergency Contraceptives Should Only Be Used for Emergencies

0
0

As much as we may try to be in control or prepared for any and every situation, it isn’t always possible—accidents do happen. Condoms break, or you forget to take your pill, and that can be a scary situation. Fortunately, emergency contraceptives have been made more readily available to women in recent years; in 2009, it was approved without prescription to women ages 17 and up and in 2013, women as young as 15 can get access to the morning after pill. But as one of the most easy-to-get forms of birth control, it might seem more convenient to rely on Plan B as your Plan A than to have to get a prescription for regular birth control (and not to mention, have to remember to take it each day)—so is it okay to take EC after every instance of intercourse and call it a day? We checked in with experts on how emergency contraception works, when to use it, and whether it's safe to use regularly as your primary form of birth control.

What is emergency contraception?

Emergency contraception goes by a lot of different names; the morning-after pill, the day-after pill, morning-after contraception and more. There are also various brands of EC that you can choose from, including Plan B One-Step, Next Choice One Dose, My Way and ella. All of these emergency contraceptives essentially serve the same purpose, and are used in the same way; they are pills you can take up to a certain amount of time following unprotected sex (usually five days) in order to lower the possibility of pregnancy.

Copper IUDs (rather than hormonal IUDs, the more popular form of IUDs) may also be used as emergency contraception, if you're looking for something that will give you more permanent results after the fact—up to five days after you've had unprotected sex, you can visit a doctor to insert an IUD, which is a small, T-shaped device made of copper that will be effective for multiple years.

How does an emergency contraceptive work?

There is a common misconception about what emergency contraceptives do. They do not stop pregnancies; however, they do reduce the risk of a pregnancy up to 95 percent, or 99 percent when using a copper IUD, if taken within the allotted time period.

A copper IUD releases copper ions that destroy sperm before it can fertilize an egg, while an emergency pill simply keeps you from releasing an egg. Therefore, emergency contraceptives do not terminate a pregnancy, but keep one from beginning in the first place.

When should emergency contraceptives be used?

For emergencies! They are designed to be a safety net for when unexpected situations arise. If you plan on having sex regularly or at all, taking birth control and using condoms are good precautions to take—especially since research shows that EC isn't as effective as standard forms of birth control can be. According to Princeton University, if you used only EC for a year, your annual pregnancy risk would be 20 percent. That means that if you have unprotected sex for a year and solely rely on emergency contraception each time, statistics show that your risk of pregnancy reaches one in five. In addition, obesity can lessen the effectiveness of emergency contraception; Plan B and Next Choice may not work well for women with a BMI over 25, and not at all for those with a BMI higher than 30. Ella, however, can be effective up to a 35 BMI, and copper IUDs are not affected by weight.

Emily*, a student at Indiana University, says she does not rely on EC regularly for that reason. “On the package, there is a warning about taking it regularly because it is not as strong as regular birth control,” she says. “So instead, I just rely on taking normal birth control daily.”

Not to mention, taking EC as a regular contraceptive can get incredibly expensive; it can cost anywhere from $35 to $60 a dose, depending on the brand. Birth control pills, on the other hand, can be anywhere from free up to $50 for a month's supply; many insurance plans cover it fully.

This doesn't mean that you shouldn't have EC on hand, though.

Dr. Shana Dowell, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Vanderbilt’s Center for Women’s Health at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, Tennessee, says, “I think ideally if you are going to have sex and you don't want to get pregnant, than starting some sort of birth control beforehand is best,” she says, adding that this is in no way to say that emergency contraception should be avoided. “There are so many barriers, however, to women getting appropriate contraception (cost, transportation, health insurance, privacy) and mistakes happen (prescriptions running out, condoms breaking). Or, having morning after pills as an option in the case of sexual assault is so important.”

How do the side effects of EC compare to the effects of the pill?

When it comes down to it, the effects of birth control and EC are relatively similar: nausea, breast tenderness, dizziness, fatigue and lower abdominal pain. “Most women tolerate them quite well,” says Dr. Dowell. “There are only a few contradictions, but this is a great option for most women who have a contraceptive mishap.” This means that like with any pill, some will experience intensified, varying side effects.

“I know friends who have taken it a few times and have experienced nausea, cramping, and irregular periods that lasted several weeks,” Emily says of her and her friends' personal experiences. “I really think it is different depending on the collegiette and her body.”

Although the symptoms associated with EC are relatively the same as those associated with taking birth control and a normal period, there are instances where girls have experienced painful or abnormal side effects. Even though most women do not experience unusual discomfort, there is the potential for some negative effects. This shouldn’t necessarily discourage you from taking it—but your body may tolerate long-term, consistent birth control better than it does EC.

According to Amanda*, a student at William Patterson University, “Every time I've taken it, it was followed by extremely painful cramps and back pain as well as very heavy vaginal bleeding. It usually lasts around 24 hours. It was so bad that after a while I just went on a hunt on finding the right birth control!”

If you plan on having sex, from a financial, health and mental standpoint, it is ultimately better to invest in regular birth control or condoms; after all, Plan B is just what the name suggests: a plan B. But this isn't to say that you shouldn't be able to count on emergency contraceptives when you need them—that's what they're there for, after all. If you're ever unsure about how well-protected you were during intercourse, it's always better to be safe than sorry. So know where to get them at a moment's notice if you need them, but don't rely on emergency contraceptives as your only form of birth control.

De-stress With Puppies During Finals!

Nothing can de-stress a college student like pictures of adorable puppies. University of Lancashire has realized this, and decided to use this knowledge to benefit their students. As part of their initiative to lower the stress levels of students, the university created an event as part of their Stressed Out Students (SOS) campaign involving an activity that all college students love: cuddling puppies. They teamed up with the charity Guide Dogs to students the opportunity to spend some quality time with a group of puppies in order to help them relax and de-stress.

The idea for this event came from a study conducted in Japan, which found that people have better concentration, and ultimately stronger test scores, when spending time with puppies and kittens. Participants in the study who looked at pictures of puppies and kittens before taking a test improved their scores by 44 percent.

The students aren’t the only ones benefiting from this interaction either. Since the puppies are being trained as guide dogs, this opportunity allows them to grow accustomed to being around people, which greatly improves their development and training. The puppies even have their own chill out room, which limits the number of students who can be in there at one time, preventing the puppies from becoming overwhelmed.

Students simply have to pay a simple fee of £1, which will be donated to the Guide Dogs charity, in order to have access to a group of happy, energetic puppies. It’s the ultimate way to help students relax and have fun, and other universities are starting to catch on... hopefully yours is next!

17 Signs You're Turning Into Your Mother

0

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend (in case you didn’t know - get thee to the greeting card aisle!) and we love celebrating our moms. When we were younger (i.e., 10th grade), we thought there was no possible way we would end up just like them, try as everyone might to convince us that we would. These days, however, the song “I Got It From My Mama” is hitting pretty close to home. Every day, it seems, we resemble our mothers more and more. Don’t get us wrong - we love recognizing bits of our moms in us, but sometimes it’s kind of freaky.

1. You catch your reflection in the mirror and you think it's your mom for a second.

2. But seriously, even you can't deny that you're basically your mom's clone.

3. You’ve actually started to remember to dress in layers when you go outside, just in case the weather changes throughout the day.

4. When someone texts you, more often than not you have to Google whatever abbreviation or acronym they use.

5. The inside of your purse is full of everything you’ve ever owned... and some things whose origins are complete mysteries to you.

6. When you don’t wear your glasses, you have a hard time reading items on menus.

7. Your favorite magazine was once People, but lately you’ve been reading Harper's Bazaar and Martha Stewart Living… and really digging them.

8. Making your bed in the morning has ceased to be a chore and has become somewhat cathartic.

9. When you call your dad, he assumes it’s your mom and talks to you like you’re your mom for like five minutes before you convince him it’s not her.

10. You know how to fold a fitted sheet.

11. You’ve started mixing up your siblings’ names fairly frequently.

12. Rap lyrics horrify you.

13. Although talking to strangers used to annoy you, you now love conversing with the people behind you in line at the grocery store, bank, dressing room…

14. Bedtime = 10 p.m. at the latest.

15. You buy things in bulk because “it’s a better deal.”

16. Whenever you walk by Ann Taylor, you stop in “just to see what’s on sale.” Only for work clothes, though. Promise.

17. Wiping other peoples’ noses doesn’t even faze you anymore.

Here’s to you, mama! You’re the bomb dot com, and we’re not even bummed that we’re becoming you slowly but surely.

Proof That Our Fave Celebs Look Great as Redheads

Have you ever wanted to know what your favorite celebrities would look like as redheads? Well, now you can: the newest fad on Tumblr and Instagram, “Put a Rang On It,” has got your back. Dedicated specifically to answering this burning question, the idea was founded by Nadia Ahmad and Josephine Burns of Australia.

So what’s in the name? A play on Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)," apparently "ranga" is slang from Australia meaning someone who has red hair. From Drake to T. Swift, they've got everyone covered. Some of them actually look pretty damn fierce. We think a few of them could rock the fiery hue IRL. These are some of our faves.

With so many major events in the past week, all of our favorite celebrities showed up in tip top shape—and we wanted to highlight the best ones! From the Chanel 2016 Resort Show to the Met Gala, we saw an influx of wonderful looks. Here are some of our favorites:

1. Lily Aldridge

This Victoria's Secret model looked stunning at the Met Gala with a polished updo that let her deep mauve lips speak for themselves.

2. Charlize Theron

This actress looked naturally flawless at the Mad Max premiere with her rosy complexion and pink lips.

3. Jennifer Lopez

Snapped from her Instagram, JLo is flying in style. That peachy-pink gloss? Love it.

4. Taylor Swift

Speaking about flying in style, T-Swift looked effortlessly glam as she graced the Narita Interntional Airport in Japan with those perfect curls and her signature red lip.

5. Jennifer Lawrence

JLaw is rocking the metallic eyes and bold pink lips combo at the Met Gala, and as per usual, she looks absolutely flawless.

6. Kristen Stewart

Kristen may be known for a lack of emotion, but at the Chanel 2016 Cruise show this year, she looks completely romantic with the thin eyeliner and deep violet lips.

7. Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae continues to slay time after time. From her highlighted eyes and brows to her red matte lips to her braided mohawk, we have no idea what we love the most.

8. Jaime King

This pregnant actress still looks polished the day after the Met Gala with a fresh, barely-done-up face and casual, easy-going strands.

9. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie's look is the epitome of contouring perfection. We also love how her effortlessly tousled waves are casually tossed into a volumizing side part!

#FriendshipGoals: Our 6 Favorite On-Screen BFFs

Your best friend is probably going to be one of the most important people in your life. Whether you connect by binging on junk food while watching Netflix or failing miserably at that advanced yoga class you two tried, you have a bond that just can't be explained. You know they'll always be there for you as will you for them, no matter what. In honor of you and your BFF, here are our top TV friendships that will make you realize how special yours is!

1. Serena and Blair, Gossip Girl

Between stealing each other's boyfriends and sabotaging one another's chances of getting into college, it's safe to say that Serena and Blair had one of the most volatile friendships on TV. But maybe that's what made it so strong by the series' end; they had literally been through it all, thick and thin, and many times at that. Plus, they also had the most stunning wardrobes ever, so raiding the other's closet would've been a huge friendship perk.

2. Chandler and Joey, Friends

When it came to food, women and watching TV, Chandler and Joey were basically long-lost twins. All they had to do was give each other the look and just like that, we knew that they were thinking the same exact thing. These two shared more than a bromance; they put all other friendships to shame!

3. Raven and Chelsea, That's So Raven

Having differing opinions on the environment and eating animals sure didn't stop Raven and Chelsea from being the ultimate Disney BFFs. From turning into farm animals to evading the school bullies, these two never broke into too much of a sweat despite the crazy shenanigans they were always mixed up in. Plus, Chelsea never revealed Raven's secret abilities to anyone and that's some solid loyalty right there.

4. Leslie and Ann, Parks and Recreation

Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins might have met under strange circumstances (remember that pit Andy fell into?), but that didn't prevent them from establishing one of the strongeset bonds on the show! Not only were they each other's biggest cheerleaders, they also constantly fed each other with the most self-esteem-boosting compliments. Our personal favorite was when Leslie called Ann a "beautiful tropical fish."

5. Ryan and Seth, The OC

Unlikely friends usually mesh so well because they balance each other out. We loved Marissa and Summer as a duo, but we simply could not get enough of Ryeth, aka, Ryan and Seth. Seth provided the comic relief when Ryan was in a foul mood, and Ryan showed his friend the dating ropes. Whenever the two were in limbo with the girls (which was almost always), the two guys had each other's backs.

6. Meredith and Cristina, Grey's Anatomy

I think we knew their friendship was the real deal when Cristina hopped into bed with Meredith and McDreamy for a cuddle sandwich. It was either that, or the time they laid on the bathroom floor and discussed their love lives while drinking tequila. There was also that comment Cristina made about how if she murdered someone, Meredith would be the one to help her get rid of the body. If that's not bestie dedication, then we don't know what is.

Which TV friendship is most like the one you have with your bestie?

As a collegiette, keeping yourself healthy is always at the top of your mind—but it's not always the easiest task to achieve. Between late nights at the library and your average weekend debauchery, the stress that comes with college life can get in the way of getting optimum sleep, exercise and a good diet.

No matter where you are in life—whether you'll be starting college in the fall or you're graduating this year—there are ways to take your health into your own hands and make it a priority. May 10 to 16 is National Women's Health Week. Her Campus is proud to be an official partner for the third year in a row and Her Campus co-founders Annie, Stephanie, and Windsor are National Women's Health Week ambassadors!

With so many components to staying healthy, getting yourself on the right track can feel intimidating. And the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health, which leads NWHW, know this—so they've outlined easy steps you can take based on your age group. To maintain your healthiest you in your twenties, you should pledge to:

  • Schedule your annual well-woman visit on National Women's Checkup Day
  • Eat healthy, and maintain a healthy weight
  • Get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily
  • Quit smoking—or don't start
  • Get a seasonal flu shot
  • Choose a birth control that suits you if you are sexually active
  • Get your HPV vaccinations
  • Talk to your doctor about when you should be doing a Pap test
  • And more!

Keeping yourself in good shape isn't the only way you can recognize this important week—empower the women around you to make their health a priority, too! Since health steps are outlined for every age group up to your 90s, you can send tips to your mom, grandma, older sister and others. Or, spread the message on your social media accounts via the NWHW's Thunderclap, or by posting one of their prewritten messages on Facebook or Twitter.

Collegiettes, it's time to prioritize your health! For more information on how to stay healthy and how to get involved, visit the National Women's Health Week website!

We have so much to thank our mothers for. They're the ones, after all, who taught us how to be independent, kind and wise, and they've shown us everything from how to curl our lashes to how to fend for ourselves in the real world. In honor of Mother's Day this weekend, here are some of the best pieces of motherly advice we've ever received, as told by our favorite TV mom, Lorelai from Gilmore Girls.

1. Pretty is as pretty does.

2. Never show up at someone's home empty-handed.

3. Roll with the punches.

4. Don't let others determine your worth.

5. Take pride in your appearance.

6. Don’t put anything on the Internet that you wouldn’t want your future employer or children to see.

7. Organize your thoughts and feelings before speaking.

8. Allow yourself to have your own dreams and chase them.

9. Don’t give away what you cannot afford to lose emotionally, physically or financially.

10. Happiness is a choice.

11. Honesty is the best policy.

12. Envy is a natural but wasted emotion unless it makes you inspired or motivated.

13. Always say please and thank you.

14. Set your own boundaries and stick to them.

15. This too shall pass.

16. Not everything has to be perfect; sometimes "good enough" is good enough.

17. Don’t judge others; it only reflects on you.

18. You can’t get respect unless you give it first.

19. Have faith in something or someone and keep your heart open.
