1. MAC Eye Gloss, $21, maccosmetics.com

This eyeliner was the perfect choice for the bold eye look used during Cushnie et Ochs show. It is a good choice for those wanting to achieve a more dramatic and dark look that not all eyeliners can deliver! Opt for this product when you want to make your eyes the main focus of your look—be sure to pait it with neutral colors elsewhere, so your eyes really pop!

The makeup artists at the BCBGMAXAZRIA show relied on this perfecting bronzer to give models a gorgeous glow. Miss your summer tan? This bronzer will give you that natural, sun-kissed look.

4. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, $22, stilacosmetics.com

This liquid lipstick, which we saw in Clover Canyon’s show, was a hit for us! The long-lasting product creates the perfect pigment and because of its texture super-smooth texture, it gives your bold lips a crazy-good finish.

5. Kevyn Aucoin Eye Pencil Primatif, $26, nordstrom.com

Bold eyeliner was a big trend on the runways this year, and in this case, it was a bright blue shade by Kevyn Aucoin that stole the show! As seen in the HONOR show, this product created a beautiful look made for those beauty risk-takers who want to make a statement.

Which of these designer-approved products will be you be stocking up on, collegiettes?

What Happens When an 89-Year-Old Grandpa Joins Tinder

Anyone who has swiped through Tinder on a night in with friends knows that the dating app can be good for a few laughs. Even Dave Franco and Conan have shown us how some good-spirited catfishing can lead to a hilarious story.

Video creators Ethan Cole and Josh Shultz put a new twist on the Tinder jokes and set up Cole’s 89-year-old grandfather, Joe, on five Tinder dates using a picture of the adorable old man from when he was 21.

The five dates play out with varying degrees of success, but Joe and the women are all great sports. After more than a few shots, one woman explains her job at a sex shop to Joe, and he shows off his rapping skills around the 2:50 mark.

This video is part of an ongoing series—which we highly recommend you check out—called “Explaining Things to my Grandfather,” available on Cole and Shultz’s YouTube channel, Slow Clap.

Why is There an Arrest Warrant Out for Queen Elsa?

It is freezing out and the snow seems never-ending. We all know who is to blame: Queen Elsa.

And since Elsa won’t take no for an answer (as in NO, we do not want to build a snowman, we are tired of being Frozen), it’s only natural that the authorities now have to step in. So the Harlan City Police Department in Harlan, KY are looking to apprehend Miss Elsa.

They posted on their Facebook page yesterday:

“All points bulletin!!! HPD has issued an arrest warrant for Queen Elsa of Arendelle. Suspect is a blonde female last seen wearing a long blue dress and is known to burst into song 'Let it Go!' As you can see by the weather she is very dangerous. Do not attempt to apprehend her alone.”

While it remains to be seen whether the Disney Queen will be caught, the weather reports show her magical powers are not waning: it’s still cold and snowy.

When reached for a comment, all Elsa would say was, “Let it go.”

All kidding aside, the Kentucky police department was just trying to make light of their frigid temperatures. And who better to blame than the queen of cold weather herself?

Real Live College Guy: Does He Like Me or Does He Just Want Sex?

We all need a little guidance now and then, so whether you’re stressed about a fling gone wrong, a recently wrecked relationship or how to handle a stage-five clinger, Real Live College Guy Dale is here to help you navigate the college dating scene.

After starting college, a friend introduced me to a guy who happened to be in his final year of my college. At first, he seemed really nice and friendly, and all of a sudden, he was dead flirty and sent me some naughty pictures. I didn't stop myself from the flirting, but I knew that it wasn't going to be nothing more until he started asking to turn up to my dorm room. I didn't mind, and I actually enjoyed his company and we seemed to have a lot in common, however, he did start to show affection soon by simple gestures like cuddling me, holding my hands, eye contact and other affectionate displays of body language. However, as soon as he gets home, he would be a different person and would suggest we do sexual activities the next time we meet. Is he really into me or does he just want sex?–Sexting at Southern Miss

Southern,

Let me save you a lot of time: The dude just wants sex. He’s playing a dangerous game by being super flirty and nice; it’s his way of trying to bait you into liking him enough to sleep with him. And when he does — after he’s caught his prize fish — he’ll throw you back into the ocean like I’m sure he’s done with other women.

It’s easy to trick someone into thinking you have a lot of things in common. “My favorite color is blue!” is met with “Oh yeah, mine too!” (Even though his favorite color is actually red). It’s easy to turn up the “nice factor” to get someone to see you as something you’re not (I would know — I’ve done it before).

This leaves you with two options: One, realize that all you’re going to get out of this is sex — which could be great or it could be mediocre, who knows? Take that for what it is, hook up with him and maybe negotiate a FWB type of thing. However, if you’re developing feelings for this guy, going through with a FWB deal is a potentially explosive situation. If you do in fact have feelings for him, it’s better to pull back and cut him off completely than wait around and hope for things to change.

Or two, ditch the loser if a casual encounter is something you’re just not looking for right now. Honestly, what kind of guy sends unwarranted naughty pictures and sexts? That just seems tasteless to me. It isn’t a sign of someone that genuinely likes you for you, you know?

Once you figure out which option you want to pursue, do it and do it with no regrets. Commit to a casual hookup or commit to ditching someone that honestly sounds like kind of a creeper. So while I’ve offered up bits of advice for certain situations, here’s my final ruling: Ditch him. Casual sex isn’t worth dealing with a two-faced sleaze.

2. On the other hand, it’s warm in your bed. Logic dictates you stay there.

3. You have literrrrally nothing to wear.

Call me when they make party-appropriate outfits out of flannel pajamas. Then we'll talk.

4. You JUST went out like two weekends ago. Obviously it's too soon.

5. You’re 80 percent certain that you’re allergic to interacting with other human beings and you don’t want to chance it.

House parties and bars? Yeah, they're full of people. What do your friends want you to do, walk into a death trap?!

6. Friends is on Netflix now, so everyone will be at home watching and the bars will probably be empty anyways.

7. Wearing heels sounds like the worst thing you’ve heard since the song “Call Me Maybe.”

8. Tumblr is more comforting than your friends.

It deserves your time and attention, too!

9. You haven’t caught up on Broad City yet and you need to know what other antics Ilana and Abbi are going to get into.

10. If you drunk-eat mozzarella sticks one more time you may explode, and you want to protect everyone from the impending shrapnel.

12. You have to…help your…your grandma is…you have to wash your hair?

13. You did like, six lunges and a burpee at the gym today... so you’re pretty beat.

14. There’s a BuzzFeed quiz that determines whether or not you and Harry Styles are soulmates, and you’re dying to find out.

Your friends should be happy that you have your priorities straight.

15. You’ll go out tomorrow! Maybe.

LOL JK you're never leaving your bed. But no one else needs to know that.

What to Buy NOW at the Kate Spade Saturday Sale

Just a few weeks ago, we learned about Kate Spade's plans to shut down Kate Spade Saturday, its lower-priced line. With the closure approaching this summer, the brand is already starting to move its merchandise—fast. The good news is, Kate Spade Saturday is having a major sale—40 percent off everything on the site (including sale!) with code "EXTRA40." The bad news? This is one of the last times you'll have the opportunity to shop the preppy-chic collection. We don't have to tell you twice to start hoarding these colorful dresses, accessories and more—but in case you need some help choosing, we've rounded up our favorites, below!

1. Panel Long Sleeve Tee, originally $60 $42; now $25.20

Obviously, we're starting with the sale section! This cotton-and-wool blend tee features a cropped, boxy fit—a silhouette that is trending right now. We'd wear it with skinny high-waist jeans when the weather's still cold, and pair it with a cute floral skirt when the sun comes out.

2. Contrast Short Boots, originally $230 $161; now $96.60

If there's one item every collegiette should have in her wardrobe, it's a good pair of ankle booties; and at under $100, these ones are a must. We love the classic shape of this pair, which makes them so versatile! You could wear them to your internship, on a first date, out to brunch with your BFFs, around campus... you get the idea.

3. Reversible Call Me Dress, originally $120; now $72

We will always, always be okay with a piece that does double duty—and this two-in-one dress does just that. The fact that you get two whole outfits in ONE garment (as in, you can literally get out of bed, slide into a single item and look totally polished) is just the cherry on top.

4. Freeform Bucket Crossbody Bag, originally $130; now $78

The bucket bag is the style you'll find on every fashion editor's arm, so take this opportunity to get ahead of the trend game and score yourself one of these of-the-moment accessories for less! There are four colors to choose from... and yes, we're having a hard time deciding which shade is our favorite, too.

5. iPhone 5 Case, originally $25; now $15

This is our weekend mantra. (Hey, if pink can have a day, why can't yellow?)

6. Initial Crewneck Sweatshirt, originally $95; now $57

If we're going to honest with ourselves, our sweatshirts probably get more wear than anything else in our closets, so when you find one cute enough to wear in public, you just don't let that opportunity go. The graphic, bold-yet-simple look of this piece fits right into the athleisure trend that has taken the fashion world by storm lately. Pick up one in your own initial—and grab a few for your besties and sorority sisters, too!

7. XXXXXXO Necklace, originally $40; now $24

A twist on your classic gold bar necklace, this delicate piece offers unique detail with a sweet meaning. Since we're far beyond the days of those "love" necklaces we may or may not have worn in middle school, this updated take makes for the perfect everyday piece.

Should You Date a Study Abroad Student? 7 Things To Consider

$

0

Nothing could be more exciting than a little international love. What could be bad about a fun fling with a foreign campus cutie studying at your American college? However, things can get complicated when that fun fling turns into a real relationship. Is it wise to get romantically involved with an exchange student while knowing that person will only be around for a limited time before returning home? We talked to some experienced collegiettes and came up with seven things to consider before dating a temporary visitor to the States.

1. He’s Different From American Guys

Dating someone from a different country can be a nice departure from the norm. “I dated a guy from Belgium who was studying at my school for the year,” says Krystal, a student at the University of Michigan. “He was so different than any guy I’d ever dated before… I felt like he was always surprising me, whether it was the things we’d talk about or the fun dates he’d plan. He kept things exciting, just because I never knew what to expect from him.”

Of course, not all American boys are the same, but dating someone from another country can give you a totally unexpected experience. You and your old cutie may have spent every Friday night getting burgers and seeing a movie, but with an international cutie you might spend date night sightseeing, trying out a new restaurant or spending the whole night clubbing. Date night may never be predictable again!

2. You Can Learn About an Entirely New Culture

International students aren’t only different in how they treat a date––they come from an entirely different world than you, full of unfamiliar customs and traditions. “Even though it was only for a few months, one of the best relationships I’ve ever been in will always be with the guy who was studying abroad at my school from Belize,” says Jen, a collegiette from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. “He was a great cook, and he’d make all these incredible meals for me that he’d make at home. It was some of the best food I’ve ever had!”

Whether you get to try out his country’s food, listen to the local music or sharpen up your foreign language skills, dating someone from a different culture can allow you to expand your horizons––even if it is for only a short amount of time.

However, culture clashing can come with challenges as well. For Krystal, she found that her cutie “never wanted to go to my favorite bars with all my friends. He said he couldn’t stand all the American pop music they played there.” You may be open to your international guy’s culture, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be open to embracing yours.

3. An International Guy is a Novelty

Whether we admit it or not, one of the greatest appeals of dating an international student is the reaction you’ll get from everyone else: jealousy. “My friends couldn’t believe it when I started seeing Ken,” said Krystal. “It was so much fun to be able to introduce him to people, like, ‘This is my boyfriend, Ken. Oh, and he’s from Belgium.’”

Of course, dating someone isn’t all about the reaction you’ll get from others. But we can’t pretend it’s not great to snag the foreign hottie every girl on campus has had her eye on!

4. The Relationship Has an Expiration Date

Whether you just got out of a long relationship or you’re just not looking for anything too serious right now, dating an international student is the perfect opportunity for something a little more casual. “I started seeing a guy in my lit class who was studying here from Germany after I broke up with my sophomore-year boyfriend,” says Brittany, a student at Worcester State University. “It was really exactly what I needed; we both knew he’d be returning home after the end of the semester, and so we just had fun without any expectations of our relationships going anywhere.”

If you’re looking for a fun, casual fling, international students can be your best bet––you go into the relationship knowing they have to leave eventually, and if things end on bad terms, you’ll never have to awkwardly run into them on campus again!

However, if you’re seeking a serious relationship, it’s important to consider whether or not you think things will last once your cutie returns home. “I hadn’t gone into my relationship thinking it would last past the semester, but when it was time for Daniel to return to Dublin, we knew it wasn’t over,” says Kristine from Boston College. “We thought it would be just a limited-time thing, but it has turned out to be so much more.”

Though you may go into a relationship not expecting much more than a fling, be open to the possibility that your international relationship may surpass its expiration date.

5. You Can Have Different Expectations

Dating rituals differ among cultures, and unless you and your international beau explicitly communicate your expectations, some things can become lost in translation. “I had thought things were getting serious between me and a student visiting from England last fall,” says Sarah, a collegiette from Boston University. “He’d take me out dancing and on dates and call me his ‘American lover.’ Unfortunately, I later discovered that he had a number of American lovers. I was looking for a relationship, while he was apparently just looking to hook up with as many Americans as he could in a year.”

Things can also become more serious than you’re interested in if there’s a cross-cultural miscommunication. “When Ken started telling me about taking me home to meet his family, and then later about me moving to Belgium with him after graduation, that’s when I really started to freak out,” Krystal says.

For Sarah, too, physical expectations weren’t always well communicated. “He moved a lot faster than the American guys I’d been with ever did,” she says. “I felt like I was always asking him if we could take things slower, which led to frustration on both our parts.”

Unless you’re both clear on what you’re looking for, both emotionally and physically, you could end up heartbroken (or running for the hills!).

6. It’s Hard to Keep Up the Relationship After He Leaves

After your lover returns to his home country, it might seem romantic to keep the relationship going transnationally. Unfortunately, this usually ends in more frustration than anything. “We kept up correspondence for a little bit after my boyfriend went back to Belize,” Jen says. “But once he was no longer at the same school as me, we realized how different our lives really were; often, he’d just be heading out for the night as I was going to bed! It just wasn’t the same.”

Long-distance relationships can work, but when the two of you are not only in different time zones, but entirely different countries, keeping a connection becomes especially challenging.

Kristine, however, has been able to make it work with her Irish beau. “We’ve been together for a year and a half, even though we’ve lived in the same country for less than a third of that time,” she says. “I’ve gone to visit him twice, and he’s come to visit me twice. We Skype three times a week and text every day. If it’s worth it, you’ll make it work.”

7. You Could Accidentally Fall for Him

You may go into the relationship with the expectation that’s it’s not going to be too serious… but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be able to control how you feel once you’re in it.

“Neither me nor Mark was looking for anything more than a fling, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t start to get attached near the end,” Brittany says. “I’d tell my friends, ‘We’re just having fun,’ but really, I’d fallen for him. I cried when he had to go back home, but I was almost relieved… If he had stayed any longer, I really would have been in deep.”

No one can say how hard you’ll fall or how attached you’ll get when you enter a new relationship, even if it’s one that you know you will (probably) need to end at a certain point. When you get involved with someone who lives so far from you, there’s always the chance that he’ll take a little piece of your heart with him. But that can be a good thing, too. “…Falling for Daniel was the best thing that ever happened to me,” says Kristine. “People always ask me, ‘What’s going to happen next?’ but I’m not worried about that. I took a chance and fell in love, and for now, that’s enough.”

Dating an international student can be fun. You get the chance to experience an entirely new type of relationship. But dating someone who is only in the country for a limited time also comes with the risk that you could fall harder than you ever expected.

In the end, you have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself; would you rather wonder “What if?” for the rest of your life, but save yourself the heartbreak? Or would you rather put your heart on the line and know you gave it a shot? It’s for you to decide, collegiettes!

What We Expect Rihanna's Birthday Celebration to Be Like

Today is Rihanna’s 27th birthday—and we know she'll be celebrating in style. We're pretty sure her party is going to be filled to the brim with anybody who's anybody (the question is, where is our invite?!). So what will the birthday bash entail? Here's what we're predicting:

Amazing, only-Ri-Ri-could-wear-that clothing

Rihanna NEVER disappoints on the red carpet (did you see her Grammys dress?). Not to mention, she has her own fashion line. We hope she makes an enterance to her own party in the most outrageously glamorous outfit yet.

A star-filled guest list

We all know Rihanna's friend circle includes the queens and kings of the music industry, so it's just a matter of who shows up. We're hoping for appearances by Katy Perry, Beyoncé & Jay Z, Miley and Nicki Minaj.

Possible dance battle

Of course, Rihanna's dance moves are just as impressive as her vocals—so why not have an epic dance battle between her and her guests? Spoiler: the birthday girl is likely to win.

A surprise performance

After her latest hit "FourFiveSeconds," we're secretly hoping she pulls a Beyoncé or Drake and drops a surprise album to celebrate her birthday with. Even if we don't get an album, we at least can expect a surprise performance with Kanye and Paul McCartney... we hope.

Happy birthday, Rihanna!

What You Should (& Shouldn’t!) Do After an Interview

$

0

Picture this: You just walked out of an interview for a job you’d kill for. Your outfit is on point and you’re feeling confident that you totally rocked it. As soon as you get back home, you check your inbox to see if, just maybe, they’ve already emailed you to say that you were by far the most fabulous candidate and the job is yours. (Note: If this has ever actually happened to you, please call us and tell us what you did. Seriously.)

Since the company probably has yet to contact you, the ball is still in your court. For the next couple of weeks, it’s your job to make sure they know how badly you want the job and that you’re the right gal for it. Lucky for any collegiette looking to make a great impression after the interview, Her Campus has rounded up some dos and don’ts of how to follow up.

DO make sure you know the hiring timeline

Despite our wishes, it’s rare that a company hires someone on the spot at the interview itself. Most hiring takes weeks or months of searching and interviewing to find the right person for the job. In order to start off on the right foot with following up after an interview, it’s crucial that you know the employers’ timeline.

Amy Smith, assistant director at the Hofstra University career center, says that the post-interview waiting game is much easier if you have a timeframe to work with. “To make sure you don’t cross over the ‘pushiness’ line in your follow-up, definitely ask questions during the interview about the next steps in the hiring process so that you already have answers to your follow-up timeline,” she says.

There will be plenty of time after your interview to check your email obsessively and watch your phone like a hawk for word from the employer. Knowing approximately when you should hear back not only eases your mind, but also makes it less likely that you’ll seem too aggressive.

DON’T trip up your timing

After you leave an interview, there a few things you need to do. The first is to call your mom back and relieve her of her anxiety to hear how it went. The second is to send a thank you note. While it may seem tempting to rush home and send one right away, it actually pays off to be more patient.

“Immediately following an interview, you should do nothing,” says Paul Bailo, author of The Essential Digital Interview Handbook. “It doesn’t help the candidate at all to rush home and send a thank you letter right away. It actually makes you look overeager.”

To avoid seeming desperate, Bailo says you should actually wait one or two days to reach out—

and not any longer than that. Smith advises collegiettes to stay within that timeframe to ensure you’re still on the company’s radar. “For you, the interview is fresh in your mind, which will make it easier for you to remember details that can make your notes more personal to the interviewer,” she explains. “For the interviewers, you are fresh in their mind, and you can build on that great impression they already have of you from your interview!”

Our experts say the golden rule is to make contact between one to two days after your interview, and we’ll talk more about how to do it in our next step. If you stay within this window, you’ll be able to avoid seeming too pushy and still maintain a polite degree of professionalism.

DO send a thank you note

After an interview—especially one you think you nailed—it’s normal to obsess over every single one of your next moves. Of course, the dilemma that might pop up first is how to write and send your thank you letter. Should it be over email or via snail mail? What should you say? Should it be pink and scented in a nod to Elle Woods? (Hey, SHE got the job.)

According to Bailo, you want to send a thank you via email 24 to 48 hours after the interview. “The premise of that email should imply that you are a valuable employee,” he says. “You want to show that you understood what their problem is—of course, they have a problem because they’re hiring—and then identify yourself as the solution to that problem.”

In Smith’s opinion, collegiettes should spice up their thank-you notes to make them more memorable. “Personalize the notes to reference something that stood out to you in your conversation, or that you’ve thought about since the interview,” she says. When it comes to choosing the medium through which you send your note, Smith says you should be flexible; use your judgment to pick the method that best corresponds with the job you’re applying for.

Grace Diana, a junior at Texas Tech University, knew a handwritten thank you card was exactly what she needed to score the job. “After walking away from the interview, I wrote a note thanking [the hiring manager] for taking the time to interview me,” she says. Within an hour of dropping off the card with the employer’s receptionist, Grace got the job. “She explained that a handwritten note was the sincerest form of flattery and knew that if I had taken the time to write a letter, she was confident I would take the time to successfully complete a task.”

In short, never underestimate the power of a simple thank you. Plus, you know what to do after licking that stamp: Call your mom again and brag about how you just wrote the nicest handwritten letter, the old-fashioned way. Trust us, she’ll eat it up and then tell her friends how proud of you she is.

DON’T connect on LinkedIn until you’re hired

Let’s be real: As soon as you have a name of the person who will be interviewing you, you conduct a LinkedIn stalking session that rivals the Facebook one you did on your ex-boyfriend’s new fling. In a world where making LinkedIn connections is one of the most valuable forms of networking, it’s easy to want to jump the gun and add the person (or people) you met in your interview. After all, it can’t hurt, can it? According to Bailo, it can.

“If you don’t already know the hiring manager or employer (the usual situation), don’t connect with them on LinkedIn,” he says. If they reach out to you, wait to accept the connection until you’ve got the job. “All you’re doing is opening yourself up to scrutiny, which isn’t necessary,” Bailo points out. “If you did a good job [in the interview], why would you want to put yourself at risk?”

The thing about LinkedIn is most of the time, your connections are only meaningful if you actually put in the effort to turn them into stronger relationships. Connecting with your potential boss or coworker before you really know them is rather pointless. In other words, wait until you can send a cute and personal connect request. It’ll be more worth it in the end.

DO continue your job search while you wait

As exciting as getting an interview is, remember that you’re still not guaranteed anything. Carol Spector, director of career services at Emerson College, says that an important step in the interview follow-up process is to be proactive in looking for other positions. “An interview does not mean an offer,” she says. “Don’t wait for the response [from the employer] without continuing your search.”

This does get tricky when you’re juggling trying to follow up with multiple employers. While you want to be honest with them throughout the hiring process, you also want each individual to think you’re totally gung-ho for that specific position. According to Spector, if you do get an offer, you don’t have to accept it right away. “Once you have an offer, you should check with the employer about [your other options],” she says. “At the time of the offer, it can be a juggling game [to make a decision], but just make sure it’s the right fit for you as a candidate.”

Following up after an interview definitely requires time and patience—but you don’t have to be bored and waiting for a call the entire time. Actively search for other potential opportunities. If you find out your dream job is hiring three days after sending a thank you card for a recent interview, there’s no rule that says you can’t go for it.

DON’T be discouraged if you don’t hear back

If you still haven’t heard back two weeks after the interview, it’s okay to reach out again. “If [two weeks]—or the timeframe you were given at your interview—has passed, you’re completely within your means to follow up,” Smith says. Hiring managers need time and often other people to help them make the final decision, so you may be waiting a while. Again, this is why it comes in handy to follow our first tip so you can have some idea of when you can reasonably expect to hear from the company.

If you don’t hear back from that message after another couple of weeks (about a month after the interview), Smith says you should probably go ahead and look at other options. “You can follow up once more to check on the process, but it might be time to move on and turn your focus to other opportunities,” she says.

Since you’re not going to get every single job you apply for, this will inevitably happen to every collegiette at one point or another. The important thing isn’t to dwell on the past, though; it’s to look toward the future. “Stay confident and patient,” Smith says. “You’ve already put your best foot forward in the interview process, and even if this particular opportunity doesn’t work out, you’ve gained valuable interview experience and maybe even made connections that can be helpful further along in your career!”

Best-case scenario: You get the job. Worst-case scenario: You don’t get the job and you treat yourself to a cheer-me-up cocktail. You can’t exactly lose.

Following up after an interview requires walking a line between being overly pushy and seeming interested and persistent. The interview process is a long one, and it can take weeks of making various moves to show how badly you want the job.

If you work within the company’s hiring timeline and show them you know how to reach out with class and diligence, you’ve got a much better shot at getting that congratulatory call.

Kanye West x Adidas Originals: A Collection We Can Actually Get Behind

Few celebrity figures are nearly as controversial within the fashion world (not to mention the celeb sphere as a whole) as Kanye West is. While the rapper has a practically Internet-breaking Vogue cover under his belt and several infamous designer shoutouts in the lyrics of his music, his previous attempts to try his hand as a designer have not been particularly well received amongst fashion critics. His newest attempt, Kanye West x Adidas Originals, which showed last Thursday at New York Fashion Week, has been a bit of a different story. Love him or hate him, the fashion world’s response to his collection for Adidas is showing that the industry just might be starting to warm up to Kanye—and for a few good reasons!

ICYMI, Kanye recently opened up to Style.com about the vision behind Kanye West x Adidas—and it turns out, it’s something we can all get behind. Coming down from designing two super-luxe collections in 2012 that showed at Paris Fashion Week on the same day as Chanel and Valentino, it seems West’s vision this time was a lot more realistic. The clothes were simple, neutral, and had a casual athleisure look with military-inspired touches via camouflage jackets—in other words, way more down-to-earth than we’re used to seeing from Kanye. Instead of trying to aim for a high-end luxury market, Kanye told Style.com that, this time around, he focused on bringing well-designed clothing to as many people as possible, even going as far to accuse high fashion of being elitist. Chic, fashion-forward clothes available to those of us that can’t afford to splurge on this season’s Saint Laurent booties? We’re definitely okay with that.

Another major part of the Kanye West x Adidas presentation? The casting featured a much more realistic range of body types than your average NYFW catwalk. While the fashion industry has consistently been under fire for failing to feature a diverse enough range of models on the runway as well as in advertisements and editorials, the Kanye West x Adidas show was a different story, featuring both men and women of different heights, body types and ethnicities, reinforcing West’s vision that fashion should be made available to everyone.

While Kanye has found plenty of supporters, it’s appearing not everyone is a fan. PR icon Kelly Cutrone spoke out against the collection to People, making the point that, despite the fact that Kanye is a talented rapper and well-known public figure, it doesn’t automatically qualify him to be a fashion designer. "I think he's fine as a rapper," she said, adding, "I think he's a joke as a fashion designer." This is a point that many in the industry have brought up already, as fashion has seen a recent flood of celebrity design collaborations and lines. While I can definitely see the truth in this, I think it’s important to note that just because Kanye is already a rapper doesn’t automatically make him a bad designer. Just look at the Olsen twins—they're the perfect example of celebrities who also happen to be highly respected designers for their work at The Row.

Ultimately, no matter what your feelings are about Kanye, the collection itself or celebrities-turned-fashion-designers as a whole, what matters about Kanye West x Adidas Originals is that it has opened the door to the creation of clothing that accessible to the masses, but still has the same design integrity as high end pieces. The inclusive nature of the collection and the way it was presented—using a much more diverse runway—is something we can all get behind.

As for what's in Kanye's future? He says he has dreams of taking the lead role at Gap—where he once interned.

"One of my dreams was to be the head creative director of Gap," he said. "I'd like to be the Steve Jobs of Gap. Perhaps this is a bit of a demo tape. When I say Steve Jobs of Gap, I'm not talking about a capsule. I'm talking about full Hedi Slimane creative control of Gap is what I would like to do," he admitted in his Style.com interview.

What did you think of Kanye’s line for Adidas, collegiettes? Has Kanye proven himself as a fashion force?

USC Elects its First Female President in Nearly 10 Years

For the first time in ten years, a woman will be in charge at USC. An all-female ticket boasting Rini Sampath and Jordan Fowler won the race for student body president, according to an announcement made by USC officials on Tuesday night.

The last time that a woman held the position of undergraduate government president was in 2006. Since then, no females have even run for the position at all. This year, however, both of the tickets were led by women. Rini hopes that her victory will inspire more women to run for the position in the future. She might be in luck—her vice president, Jordan, is only a sophomore—she could definitely run for the presidential position next year when Rini graduates. Rini made the same move from vice president to president herself.

This move is empowering for women at campuses all over the country! Women and men should share equal opportunities and positions, in student government as well as every other aspect of undergraduate education—and beyond.

A College Girl’s Guide to Bar Etiquette

$

0

Becoming an established member of a bar takes time, skill and a lot of confidence. Whether you just turned 21 or you’ve been hitting up bars for a year, Her Campus has 12 tips for you so you can become the best bar-frequenter ever.

1. Know Your Drink

Ordering at a bar is just like ordering at a restaurant: before you flag down the bartender and hold up the line, know what you want. Don’t be afraid to try something new or ask for recommendations, but don’t stand there and say, “umm…” It’s always safe to know which type of wine, beer and cocktail you prefer.

“Do ask if there are any specials,” recommends bartender Alex Norton, a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  “It could save a lot of money.”

2. The Money Situation

Everyone has an opinion on whether cash or credit is better for the bar scene. If you’re a cash person, have enough to pay for your drinks and tip generously. If you have a card, open a tab and hand it over early in the night so you don’t waste the bartender’s time. When you “open a tab,” you give the bartender your credit card to have your drinks charged to it automatically throughout the night. At the end of the night, you “close the tab,” or go up and sign for the bill.  Always make sure to close your tab (and leave a good tip!).

“Don’t open a tab and then leave it without closing,” Norton says. “Nothing is worse than standing in line for 20 minutes, finally getting to order your drink and then realizing your credit card is still at the last bar.”

3. Three is the Magic Number

If you are going to a bar to meet people, it may not be the best time to invite your entire sorority. A group of three is the perfect number for a night out, but it also makes you approachable because it makes it possible to couple off: When a guy approaches, you won’t be leaving one friend to fend for herself, and the guy also won’t have to fight through a pack of friends to get your number.

4. Blend In

Take in the scenery of the bar—is the music pumping, is the game on or is everyone speaking in whispers above smooth jazz? If you want to be a regular at a bar, work on blending in with the general atmosphere. Every song that comes on the speaker isn’t “your song”—especially if it’s not karaoke night. Keep the singing along to a minimum.

5. Patience is a Virtue

Fighting through the crowd and snapping your fingers at the bartender is not a good way to be a welcome customer. Leaning over the bar and slurring flirtations isn’t much better. You’re not going to get a free drink, and you’re not going to be put ahead of the rest of the people wanting a drink. Be assertive, not aggressive; be friendly, but not a floozy. And above all, be patient.

“Wait your turn at the bar, but don’t be a pushover or you’ll never get a drink,” Norton says.

6. Keep it Classy

A bar is not a frat party. The point is not to be puking in the bathroom; it’s to enjoy the libations. If someone asks you to leave, you’re not doing it right.

7. Play it Safe

Watch your drink and trust your gut. Be aware that bars can be as dangerous as they are fun. Don’t leave a drink unattended, or you risk getting drugged. Watch the bartender make your drink, and definitely don’t accept drinks from strangers unless you saw the drink being made. Overall, be smart!

Another important safety tip is to keep track of how much you’re drinking. Consider making a small pen mark on your finger or a discreet note in your phone to keep track; everyone will just assume you’re checking your texts instead of your sobriety.

8. Own It

If you’re out with a guy, it is not his job to buy you every single drink. Be willing and able to pay your own tab, and understand that he, too, is a college student with a college student’s budget.

9. Closing Time

The staff can’t go home until you do. It’s rude to stay after hours, and chances are the bartender is just ready to go home. Consider moving the party to a late-night pizza restaurant if you’re really that set on staying out.

10. This Isn’t Starbucks

We’re all adults here. A good customer does not overcomplicate things with their skinny, extra bitters, with-a-twist, shaken-not-stirred martini on the rocks. Throwing out excessive lingo and a ton of demands isn’t becoming. Ask the wine bar for a glass of wine, and the dive bar for a beer. Don’t be complicated.

11. Befriend the Bartender

A friendship with a bartender is one of the most beneficial relationships you can have. If you’re going to frequent a bar, be friendly and make an effort to build a rapport with the bartender. Soon, your new best friend will be recommending new, niche drinks and making sure your cup doesn’t run empty.

12.Do Your Own Thing

If you don’t like beer, don’t feel pressured to drink beer. If you don’t like complicated cocktails, don’t order them just to look like you’re an alcohol expert. This isn’t a job interview, and you’re not out to impress everyone with your ability to toss down an Old Fashioned like Don Draper from Mad Men if that’s not your thing. Buying drinks is only fun if you like what you’re drinking.

It’s time to own your bar savvy. Be polite, have fun and be safe!

Iggy Azalea is Calling it Quits on Social Media

From being called Igloo Australia by fellow female rapper Azealia Banks to becoming wrapped up in an all-out social media war with Snoop Dogg, the Twitterverse has not been kind to Iggy Azalea.

In the most recent social media backlash, Iggy addressed the negative comments and Tweets she received about having cellulite after paparazzi photos surfaced of her in a bathing suit while on vacation. In the midst of the negativity, the 24-year-old has decided to take a break from Twitter and allow her account to be run by her manager until further notice.

Prior to her indefinite social media vacation, Iggy took the time to explain to Azaleans (the nickname for her fans) and haters alike that instead of being angry and allowing herself to become bitter over the situation she was making the choice to be happy.

Good for you, Iggy—you’re too “Fancy” for the haters anyways!

8 Times Rihanna Was Chic to the Next Level

Not only has Rihanna been gifted with unparalled beauty but she also has sensational style to match. With the versatility to go from punk princess to clean-cut class, Rihanna is the perfect example of wearing what you want, when you want and how you want. Since basically everything Rihanna wears becomes an instant fashion masterpiece it was a challenge to narrow it down to her 7 best looks, but we managed to do it in honor of her 27th birthday. Cheers to many, many, more, RiRi!

1. Classic in Chanel

Rihanna looks so fab in Chanel it takes us a minute to realize that she's actually only wearing an oversize button-up cardigan. Looks like an evening gown to us! Regardless, she wore this timeless neutral ensemble to the Chanel Couture Fall 2013 show proving that you can look classy with an underboob tattoo. If you're Rihanna, that is.

2. Sexy sheen

With blonde hair and gun tattoo on display, Rihanna kills it in Giorgio Armani at London Fashion Week. The dreamy dark green pairs beautifully with her gold accessories while perfectly showcasing her, ahem, assets.

3. Red lip classic

There's not much we love more than a red dress paired with a red pout on the red carpet. Rihanna stunned in this custom-made Azzedine Alaia gown paired with Neil Lane sparkles. Soft waves and simple eye makeup complete this memorable look from the 2013 Grammy Awards.

4. White hot

RiRi went braless for this backless Stella McCartney creation at the Met Gala in 2014. The sexy two-piece gown displays her perfectly toned abs (ugh, #LifeGoals). With simple hair and makeup, Rihanna's natural beauty shines through.

5. Perfectly pink

Although Rihanna's pink poufy gown earned mixed reviews, there is no debating the fact that she still looked absolutely breathtaking. Call it a loofah, compare it to Glinda the Good Witch's dress, whatever. We love RiRi for pairing this statement dress with an understated topknot and natural makeup.

6. A vision in white

We love a good power suit, especially when it's in a bright white that makes that bold red hair stand out that much more. She ups the femininity of that Max Azria suit at the Billboard Music Awards in 2011 by leaving it unbuttoned and flashing just a touch of skin.

7. Glam athleisure

Can we talk about how RiRi paired her super-luxe, full-length fur coat with... sweats and sneakers? Oh and there's the fact that she actually looks good doing it! We'll give her this—she was on her way to a taping of Good Morning America last winter, so a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to stay warm.

8. Barely there

Saving the best for last, Rihanna showed why she deserved the prestigious CFDA Fashion Icon Award when she accepted it in 2014 in this slinky Adam Selman gown. Made from 230,000 Swarovski crystals, she confidently strutted the carpet practically nude and WE LOVE IT. Only Rihanna can make nudity an instant red carpet classic.

We can't wait to see the crazy-good style choices Rihanna will be making in the years to come. Happy birthday, RiRi!

9 Non-Permanent Ways to Change Your Hair

$

By now you’re probably well into tackling your New Year’s resolution of becoming a “new you.” But there’s no way you can continue your transformation without changing up your look. While a new wardrobe could certainly do the trick, you shouldn’t underestimate the power of a new hairstyle! No need to rush to the nearest salon for a daring new cut or some bold hair coloring that you’re probably too nervous to try, though – who says a hair transformation requires scissors and permanent dye, anyway? Instead, check out these easy, non-permanent ways to change your hair.

1. Clip in some extra length
One of the most obvious ways to change your hair is by adding length. Hair extensions can easily give you the desired length or body to take your look to the next level, whether synthetic or real (Rumor has it Ariana Grande does it, too!). That’s because hair extensions can even be added to create volume, so say hello to that new voluminous high pony you’ll be rocking!

For tips on maintaining all varieties of hair extensions, we spoke with Angelo David, a celebrity hair stylist based in New York City. He recommends brushing through extensions with a boar bristle brush, like the one from his Couture Hair brush line, tweaked specially for hair extensions and clip-ins. David stresses that it’s important to remember to always brush through your extensions routinely, whether you’re preparing for a shower or returning from the gym. You never want to get tangles at the base of your extensions.

2. Change your curling rod

Switching up your curling iron can make all the difference. With rods of all widths, you can add curls that are as tight or loose as your heart desires. If you’re known to wear your hair straight, switch it up by adding luscious curls. But if you’re known to curl your hair often, try changing your barrel width for a look that isn’t your everyday norm. You may even want to check out how to create curls with a hair dryer-attachable styler. From tight ringlets to glamorous waves, the possibilities are endless.

3. Try a faux bob

Have you always wanted to try a bob, but were too afraid of possibly experiencing the post-chop trauma? The faux bob is your solution! And the best part? You never have to sacrifice your lengthy locks in the process! There are a few ways to fake a bob, but no matter the process, you can achieve the same eye-catching end result with minimal effort.

Instructions:

  1. Start by curling your hair, preferably using a 1-2-inch barrel. Wavier hair will make for a more authentic looking bob.
  2. Brush out your curls to create a nice wave.
  3. Put your hair into a low ponytail using a clear hair tie or one that resembles your hair color. It’s okay to leave out shorter layers of hair in the front to frame your face.
  4. Fold the ponytail underneath your hair so that none of the hair at the bottom of the ponytail is visible.
  5. Use bobby pins, preferably ones that match your color hair, to secure the tucked ponytail.
  6. Adjust the faux bob until it is at a desirable length.

4. Add a splash of temporary color

Don’t shy away from color just because you think it’s always permanent. From hair chalks and rubs to colored hairsprays and temporary dyes, adding a touch of tint to your hair can be quick and easy.

Should you choose to go with a temporary dye, David says there’s one thing to keep in mind about coloring: “Hair color is like a brand new car. As soon as you drive it out of the showroom, it starts to lose its value. Hair color loses its value every day.” In other words, your daily routine, from washes to styling, will cause your hair color to fade as soon as you’ve finished the coloring process.

To make your color last, David suggests washing your hair with cold water for the first two or three washes, as hot water tends to wash color around. If you prefer to blow-dry your hair after washes, use a leave-in conditioner to protect your dye from the heat.

5. Clip in faux bangs

Bangs are not for everyone. It’s no wonder so many of us avoid them for fear of regretting the decision! But with faux bangs, there’s no need to cut your hair or feel the pain of living with them until your hair grows out again. With the right color and styling, faux bangs can give life to your mundane hair. And if you hate them…well, it wasn’t a permanent change anyway!

6. Add a braid… or two!

From waterfalls to herringbones, adding a braid to your hair can easily transform a boring everyday hairstyle into a sight to see! There are no limits to the ways you can incorporate a braid into your look. Try waterfalling into a low bun, fishtailing into a messy side braid, or even working a simple braid in at the crown. At no extra cost, transforming your hair can’t get any more creative than this!

Pro tip: Fishtail braids are especially easy to incorporate into high ponytails and buns to change up the all-too-common side braid!

Instructions:

  1. Start by putting your hair into a high ponytail.
  2. Divide the hair into two even parts or sections.
  3. Separate a small strand of hair from the outermost right section and bring it across to combine with the entire left section of hair.
  4. Separate a small strand of hair from the outermost left section and bring it across to combine with the entire right section of hair. Keep in mind that the smaller the strands you separate, the better the fishtail.
  5. Continue by repeating steps four and five until you have completed the braid.
  6. Style as desired!

Check out this braiding tutorial for more instructions on achieving this high fishtail and other adorable braiding styles.

7. Change up your waves

Changing the look of your hair can be as simple as spraying on a new texture. With dry texturizing sprays, dry shampoo and sea salt sprays, you can add instant waves to your hair in no time. Try spritzing on a texturizing spray like the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray ($27 at Sephora). For optimal texture and volume, try braiding your hair after a shower and applying this texturizer to damp hair to leave in overnight.

David explains that hot tools are also great for manipulating your wave or texture. From flat iron curls to crimping to finger waves, an iron or hot rollers can help you achieve any look you desire. Check out these tutorials for how to achieve different waves and curls with hot styling tools.

Don’t forget to protect your hair when using heat to manipulate texture. Never underestimate the importance of a good hairbrush! “Always start at the tip of the hair and work your way up to the roots,” David says. “Boar head bristles can condition the hair as you’re brushing through it.” Made with nylon and natural boar bristles, David’s paddle brushes are perfect for conditioning hair while styling.

8. Step outside of your comfort zone

If you’re used to wearing your hair down, plain and simple, why not try an updo? Removing the hair from your face can make a bigger splash than you think by drawing attention to your features. Conversely, if your hair is always up in a pony or bun, do the opposite and wear your locks down for a change. There are so many cute and easy hairstyles to try! Bonus: It’s completely free and totally reversible.

9. Look the part!

If all else fails, changing your hair can be as simple as switching up your part. Normally wear your hair parted to the left? Try a middle or right part. Voilà! Instant hair transformation. It may not seem like it will make much of a difference, but you’ll be amazed by the power of subtlety.

Happy styling, collegiettes! And remember, a permanent change isn’t necessary for a hair transformation. As David says, “manipulating your hair doesn’t have to require a commitment.” Sounds ideal to us!

Who needs an Oscar when you can have maple syrup that's worth $280?

This Sunday, February 22, multiple celebrities will be going home with the coveted golden trophies while others will be going home with super swagged-out (but also kind of... no, really weird) gift bags that are worth a whopping $150k each. This year, a marketing firm called Distinctive Assets will be handing out these slightly preposterous but oh-so-generous gift bags to the losing nominees in the Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, and Best Director categories.

We know what you're thinking. "So what's in the bag?" Follow along as we break down a few of the items that people among the likes of Meryl Streep, Benedict Cumberbatch, Steve Carell, and Bradley Cooper might be lucky enough to find in their gift bags on Sunday night.

  • A haze vaporizer, $249.99 (What's better? Watching Meryl Streep win another Oscar or imagining what she would do with this?)
  • A Couples Love Shot, $5,000 (aka an "Orgasm Shot" that's supposed to enhance love-making)
  • Rogue Maple, $280 (Because everyone needs luxury pancake toppings.)
  • Posh Pretzels, $50 (Auntie Anne's obviously won't suffice here.)
  • A year's worth of Silvercar rentals, $20,000
  • A three-night stay at an Italian Villa, $1,500
  • A customized candy and dessert buffet from Candy Vixen, $800
  • Hydroxycut, $45.94 (So you can put your health in danger with a dietary supplement after devouring everything at that dessert buffet.)
  • Dermawand, $115 (A wrinkle reducer.)
  • Pop Dental, $100 (A fancy toothbrush.)
  • XO Mints, $8.97 (Designer mints. DESIGNER MINTS. Think about that.)
  • Flickable, $36 (Vegan-friendly lip gloss.)
  • JNL Clothing, $39
  • California Good Clothing, $35.99 (A really soft t-shirt.)
  • A limited edition signed print from Gunner Fox, $5,000 (He's an artist.)
  • Ambrosia Apples, $75 (Apparently we've all been doing apples wrong.)
  • An Afterglow Pulsewave Vibrator, $250
  • Enigma Life, $20,000 (A session with an astrologist in which she'll tell you your horoscope and talk to you about your dreams...$20k well spent.)
  • A trip through the Canadian Rockies, $14,584
  • Archibald's Next Big Thing, $19.99 (A childrens' book that will probably be sitting right next to that vibrator.)
  • A "Complete Lifestyle Makeover" from Reset Yourself, $14,239
  • Naked Luxury Condoms, $56
  • A Broken Bones bicycle, $1,000
  • A custom piece of furniture from EF + Facto, $25,000
  • Ventura Lipo Light, $4,068 ("We're so sorry you didn't win. Here's some liposuction.")
  • Dunkin' Donuts Coffee, $8.99 (We're guessing they haven't created coffee that costs an absurd amount of money yet.)
  • Naked Undies, $125-$225 (Eco-friendly "genital covers" for those of you who think Victoria's Secret is for peasants.)

Only the Academy can make losing feel good. The funny thing is that this isn't even half of what's supposedly in this gift bag. Click here to see a full list (along with a few LOLs) of what's inside this outrageous gift basket.

Which would you rather have, collegiettes? An Oscar win or... one of these?
