Are Katy Perry & Taylor Swift Done Feuding?

$

0

Rumors of a celeb feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have floated around for a while, but there weren't ever really any direct jabs sent in either direction (though there were some pretty telling Tweets). The latest development, however, proves that Perry may not actually be at odds with Swift.

In the March issue of Elle magazine, Perry called T. Swift a sweetheart when the magazine asked who would be playing what if today's pop icons were in a soap opera. "You've got to name someone the villain, someone the princess, someone the mom-, the dad-type—you know there always have to be characters," she told the mag. "And the media uses that. As pop figures, we're all characters. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor's the sweetheart. Kanye's the villain. That's the narrative."

Last year, Swift hinted at a rift between her and Perry in a Rolling Stone article after describing the inspiration behind her song"Bad Blood." In September, Perry then took to Twitter with the message: "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing."

Right now there's no way to tell if she was playing nice, speaking her true feelings or even being sarcastic, but one thing is for sure—we won't be taking sides if they are in a feud... we simply love them both too much!

3 Professionals Share Their Best Tips for Natural Makeup

Makeup can be tricky – apply too little and you might feel uncomfortable with your blemishes on display, but apply too much and you risk looking like Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

But don’t worry! You’re not alone in trying to find ways to apply makeup that looks natural. Three professional makeup artists shared their tips for applying makeup that doesn’t look made up.

1. It’s all about the base

Béke Beau, a professional makeup artist, says paying attention to your foundation is essential. “The more neutral and matte the shades you use, the more dramatic your makeup can be without looking obvious,” Beau says. “Shimmer and shine are not as subtle. Bronzer (matte or close to it) can be used as a contour without looking obvious.”

To avoid the matte from looking too flat, use a fan brush and apply it very lightly near your hairline and across your cheekbones. COVERGIRL’s Clean Pressed Powder will give you a natural look for only $6.99! Just remember to use a sponge instead of a brush to get more coverage.

2. Use eye shadow instead of eyeliner

Emily Aznavourian, owner and lead artist at Cheekadee Makeup Artists, says, “If you want your eyes to appear more awake but not look like you have liner on, then apply brown eye shadow with a small, pointed eye shadow brush around the lash line. Just be sure to clean up with a little concealer afterwards.” Choose from Urban Decay’s range of eye shadows ($18), which come in 77 shades.

3. Highlighter is your new best friend

Elizabeth Terenchin, a professional makeup artist based in Philadelphia, says, “One of the greatest [subtle] things you can add to your makeup kit is a highlighter.” It turns out that highlighter can be used for many facial features without overexaggerating any of them. For best results, “add it to the inside corner of your eyes, the top of the cheekbone, the brow bone and, depending on skin condition or facial structure, the middle of the chin or the middle of the forehead,” Terenchin says. “It adds life to the face and makes you look awake and hydrated!”

Stila All-Over Shimmer Duo ($22) is a versatile product that gives your skin a glow without making you look fake. Another great product is Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Highlighter ($30); dab a little on your cheek and brow bones and voilà! Your skin will brighten up without looking too shimmery.

4. Choose matte lipsticks over gloss ones

If you’re going for a natural look, our experts suggest you opt for matte instead of gloss lipsticks. Besame’s Lipsticks ($22) come in a variety of colors for all skin tones and last for hours on end!

5. Wear a lip and cheek tint

If your makeup mantra is “less is more,” use a lip and cheek tint! This multipurpose product will not only give your cheeks a rosy glow, but also add a subtle color to your lips. Tory Burch’s lip and cheek tint ($38) and Benetint by Benefit Cosmetics ($30) will give you just the quick fix that you’re looking for.

Now that you know how to rock the natural look, what are you waiting for? Try these awesome techniques and products! They’ll bring out your natural glow in no time, so you can shine inside and out – without looking overdone.

17 'Saved by the Bell' Scenarios We Would Have LOVED to See on Fallon

$

Jimmy Fallon’s Saved by the Bell reunion was perfect; some might even say it was the greatest TBT of all time. We got Jessie scream-singing “I’m So Excited,” Zack’s brick phone, a nod to how undope drugs are, and a classic time out. But this tribute only left us wanting more. Below we’ve compiled a list of all the other scenarios we would have loved to see.

1. The rest of the gang

We get it. Dustin Diamond and Lark Voorhies had "prior commitments." But Screech and Lisa were surely missed!

2. A Hot Sundae vs. Zack Attack sing-off

We don’t want to seem ungrateful since we did get to hear Zack Attack’s “Friends Forever” ode lip-synched. But let’s not forget the ladies had their own girl group, and they almost hit it big for a reason. Hint: they were awesome!

3. A trip to the Max

The Max was the group’s favorite place to hang, so why didn’t they swing by for some booth cuddles and fries? Don’t tell us they couldn’t save it from closing!

4. A wrestling match

Not only was Slater an amazing dancer but a heck of a wrestler. Even seeing him in his team getup would have been worth it.

5. Someone stuffed in a locker

Why else have the reunion take place in a hallway full of lockers? Everyone knows they’re not for holding books—they're a much better place for stuffing a nerd!

6. This move

Did you know that Kelly Kapowski was the inspiration for the hair flip emoji girl? Okay, we may have made that up, but she definitely perfected the tress toss.

7. An exercise montage of some kind

These kiddos loved their exercise, so we were surprised that none of them pulled a Jane Fonda and lured us into staying active.

8. Jessie’s sick groove

We saw Slater bust a move in full leotard, but why didn’t his number one dance partner join in?

9. A good deed or moral message about Jimmy leaving Bayside

Whether it was saving a duck named Becky or warning about the risks of credit card debt, we could always count on SBTB to teach us something. So why didn’t the gang make a bigger deal of their pal Jimmy leaving for Saturday Night Live? Couldn’t they have at least warned him about the whole Nicole Kidman debacle?

10. An attempt to do “The Sprain”

Lisa and Screech may not have been around to recreate their routine, but we still would have loved to see the cripplingly comical jig.

11. A plot to create a degrading calendar

Jimmy’s long hair was clearly a stylistic choice that could have landed him on the cover of next year’s “Girls of Bayside” calendar.

12. Eyebrow action

One of the main reasons why every girl wanted to marry Zack Morris was for his devilishly charming facial expressions. Especially those eyebrows. Give us some more of that.

13. Jessie’s feminist spirit

Jessie was a '90s feminist warrior. We were expecting her to champion women’s rights again, but her efforts fell short.

14. The Bayside cheer

Kelly was all dressed up—and pregnant!—in her cheer uniform. How about a quick rendition of the Bayside cheer?

15. Multiple wardrobe changes

If you’re looking for a guide to '90s fashion, Saved by the Bell is your go-to. While the outfit choices were on-point, we wanted to see a multitude of headbands, highlighter hues, and crop tops.

16. Zack and Jimmy scheming

Shouldn’t Zack have tried to get young, naïve Jimmy into a bit more trouble before he left Bayside? We think yes!

17. More Zack and Kelly

We’re trying not to complain because any Zack and Kelly time is treasured. We were just hoping for a few more adorable kisses and a continuation of their flawless love story.

Here’s hoping for a SBTB movie! What other scenarios would you have liked to see during Fallon’s reunion?

New Website 'Herself' Encourages Women to Be Themselves

$

Social media hasn't always been kind to women—it might be a platform for us to express ourselves, but it's also a platform for others to scrutinize us on. In recent years, media campaigns have contributed to an ongoing discussion about femininity, feminism and the ongoing objectification of women. Advocacy initiatives such as the #freethenipple campaign and Dove’s "Real Beauty" advertisements have significantly promoted the conversation, bringing questions regarding the female body and female sexuality to the forefront of society's mind.

Now, through the new website, Herself.com, the movement to empower women is going uncensored.

E! Onlinereported that the project, created by Caitlin Stasey, the Australian actress and CW star known for her roles in Neighbours and Reign, is formed around interviews with and personal essays by ordinary women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities about topics including, but certainly not limited to body image, masturbation, reproductive rights and sexual identity. “This is a site made by a woman for women about women,” Stasey explained.

Stasey told Vice that the “constant gender divide in all aspects of our community,” from discussions of medical conditions to sexuality, inspired and motivated her to create the website. “I wanted women to be able to tell their own stories and talk about their own ideas rather than be subjected to other people's opinions and criticisms of them,” she explained. “I just wanted to make a place where we could say, ‘F*** off, I'm doing what I want.’”

Herself.com is passionate fight to reclaim the female body for women—to highlight the beauty and truth in a woman’s form without sexualizing it for the pleasure of a male (or female) audience. Stasey seeks to accomplish this goal by including a naked photograph of the female contributors—herself included—to their personal essays or interviews. “Women are never just naked,” Stasey explained. She added, “[These images] just show women existing… [P]utting up photos on your own terms is incredibly powerful.” According to Stasey, feminism is fundamentally about embracing one’s freedom; though going full-frontal for the entire world to see may not be liberating and empowering for all women, Herself merely endorses the idea that women need not fear the judgment of others and can proudly own their bodies.

Stasey does not only hope to promote convention in images of the female figure; throughout Herself, one will find images of naked women of color, trans women and disabled women. “I wanted to have pictures of them naked because lots of women aren't reflected in the entertainment they consume,” Stasey said. “We're bombarded by imagery of sleek, hairless women as the faces of humanity.”

Time described Herself as “a much-needed feminist tribute to both the minds and bodies of women” and stated that the photographs’ “overt nakedness is giving a different attitude about the female body the push forward it needs in mainstream media.”

Certainly, the abundance of images of naked women has the potential to attract the attention of male visitors to the site. Yet, Stasey hopes that such viewers will find Herself to be informative and not merely arousing. “I sincerely hope men come to the site and learn to see how women present themselves, how women look when they are not merely objects, but the living, breathing subjects of their own stories,” she told Time.

Herself is not solely a social movement; it is a safe space for women to share their experiences. In addition to visually challenging social norms, Herself puts real women’s issues to the spotlight. Among the poignant pieces is a story of a woman who was molested; another tells of a woman struggling to battle her eating disorder. Stasey herself discusses masturbation. “We need to teach young girls to love themselves and be proud of their bodies. Masturbation needs to be talked about in sex education, and rape needs to be talked about,” Stasey said.

Stasey’s website serves as a haven for women who are looking for a place to share their beliefs, fears and hopes; it is also a profound, unique educational platform to teach young girls about their bodies, sexuality and individuality.

Have you visited Herself? Do you think this unique platform is empowering, and that it will make a change in society? Would you contribute to the site?

5 Tips to Getting a Red Carpet-Ready Look

$

0

We're in the middle of award season, and we've already seen tons of celebrities walk the red carpet looking as fabulous as ever—flawless skin, perfectly styled hair and absolutely magnificent gowns. So how can we achieve that same glamour at home and recreate the look perfect for a function, dance or party? Keep reading for five tips that'll get you red carpet-ready for any of your upcoming events!

1. Keep skin hydrated

Los Angeles esthetician Kate Somerville says that hydrated skin is what gives celebrities that sought-after glow. Drink water with lemon when you wake up and a gallon of water throughout the day. Munch healthy fats, berries for antioxidants, and sweet potatoes to produce collagen. In addition, exfoliate a few times the week leading up to the event to remove dull, dry skin.

2. Play up your best feature

"Play up one feature," says Avon Global's makeup artist, Liz Pugh. She does this to play up the celebrities' natural beauty, Pugh told Hello! magazine. Whether it's the eyes or lips, she chooses a feature and plays it up to work with the dress. Pugh's tip? If you're wearing a dark dress add a pop of color to the lip.

3. Less is more

Be careful about wearing too much makeup! Don't overdo the foundation and powder; you'll just need more touching up throughout the night. Apply sparingly!

4. Add a personal touch

To keep your overall look from looking staged, add a personal touch—make it realistic rather than just a looking like you done up by a stylist. Also, keep away from anything too matchy-matchy. That's what Cher Coulter, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's stylist, shared with Vogue—and as evidenced below, she's a source we can trust.

5. Revive those pearly whites!

Dr. Marc Lazare is a dentist for plenty of red carpet regulars including Liza Minnelli and Real Housewives star Sonja Morgan. He insists that using an electric toothbrush can remove stains and make your teeth brighter in just one week! He told US Magazine that Philips Sonicare DiamondClean ($190) is one of his favorites—it may be expensive but it could be worth it in the long run!

So there you have it, collegiettes! These awesome tips from those who work with the stars can help you achieve that flawless red carpet look, too!

7 Recipes to Convince You Kale is Actually Worth Eating

$

We may as well have just called this past year “The Year of Kale,” because it seemed like no matter what website we visited or what magazine we read, we were bound to find something about kale and its healthy benefits (like how one cup provides just 30 calories and a whole day’s worth of Vitamin C and A). On top of the fact that kale is a pretty easy veggie to cook with, it’s not impossible to make kale actually taste good. And we have evidence to prove it!

1. White Bean Soup with Kale and Chorizo

The beans and Spanish chorizo add a bit of a fiery kick to this recipe. It’s almost as if the kale isn’t even there!

Recipe from MyRecipes

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Spanish chorizo, finely chopped
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups fat-free chicken broth
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
  • 4 cups chopped kale
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add chorizo to pan; sauté for one minute. Add onion and garlic to pan; sauté for 5 minutes or until tender.
  2. While onions cook, pour broth into a microwave-safe bowl; microwave at high for 3 minutes.
  3. Add hot broth and beans to pan; bring to a boil. Partially mash beans with potato masher. Stir in kale and 1/2 teaspoon pepper; cook over medium heat for 6 minutes.

2. Crispy Kale Pizza

Your pizza is basically a salad now! Seriously, your body gets the healthy benefits of kale, while your taste buds get the benefits of pizza.

Recipe from A Beautiful Mess

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (one packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups white flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped kale (center stems removed)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the warm water and pinch of sugar.
  2. Next, pour the yeast on to the surface of the water. Allow that to sit and foam for 5 to 6 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flours and salt. Stir the yeast water into the flours until a dough ball forms. Knead the dough by hand for 3 to 4 minutes. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and allow to rise for about an hour, until it has doubled in size.
  4. Meanwhile, rinse and dry the kale. Chop into small pieces. Toss in olive oil and place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 to 7 minutes until the kale is beginning to crisp.
  5. Roll your dough out as thin as you can, but make sure it's not too large so that it exceeds the size of your or baking pan. Quickly cover with sauce, cheese and the kale.
  6. Bake for 24 to 26 minutes, until the edges look crispy and the cheese looks like it’s melting.

3. Kale-Apple Smoothie

This recipe is pretty simple but perfect for a quick and healthy breakfast. If you’re a fruit-and-veggie-smoothie skeptic, no need to worry. The apple juice and banana mask the taste of the kale to the point where it’s barely recognizable!

Recipe from Real Simple

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup chopped kale, ribs and thick stems removed
  • 1 small stalk celery, chopped
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Place the kale, celery, banana, apple juice, ice and lemon juice in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.

4. Whole-Wheat Pasta with Kale and Fontina

Pasta is pretty easy to make, which makes this recipe a win-win. There’s also bacon, involved so this recipe gets an automatic thumbs up.

Recipe from Martha Stewart

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch strips
  • 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound kale, thick stems trimmed, leaves chopped
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 2 cups reduced-sodium canned chicken broth
  • 1 pound whole-wheat spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup chopped fontina cheese

Directions:

  1. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-low heat, turning occasionally, until browned and crisp. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Pour off all but three tablespoons rendered fat.
  2. Cook garlic in same skillet over medium heat until golden, stirring frequently. Add half the kale; cook, tossing until just wilted. Add remaining kale and season with salt and pepper; cook, tossing, until all kale has wilted. Add broth; cover. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until kale is tender.
  3. Meanwhile, cook pasta in a large pot of boiling, salted water until al dente. Drain, reserving 1 cup cooking water. Return pasta to pot. Add kale and fontina; toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Add reserved cooking water as desired. Divide pasta among plates; top with reserved bacon.

5. Kale and Caramelized Onion Grilled Cheese

Grilled cheese is obviously a classic, but sometimes it needs a little accessory. Enter: kale.

Recipe from MyRecipes

Ingredients:

  • 4 kale leaves, stems removed
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 8 slices bread
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 3 1/2 ounces shredded raclette cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Bring a small pot of water to a boil; add kale.
  3. Remove from heat and let stand 4 minutes or until kale is bright green. Drain and rinse kale under cold water until cool. Pat leaves dry.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil and swirl to coat. Add onion, pepper and salt.
  5. Cook 10 minutes or until onion is tender and browned, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; stir in vinegar, tossing to coat. Coarsely chop onion.
  6. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Lightly coat one side of each bread slice with cooking spray. Working with 2 slices at a time, arrange bread in pan, sprayed side down. Cook 1 1/2 minutes or until bread begins to brown. Sprinkle one tablespoon Parmesan on one bread slice in pan. Top with a kale leaf, 1/4 of onion mixture and about 1/4 cup raclette. Top with other toasted bread slice.
  7. Repeat procedure with remaining six bread slices, Parmesan, three kale leaves, onion mixture and raclette.
  8. Bake sandwiches at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes or until cheese melts.

6. Lasagna with Sausage and Kale

Lasagna is always a good idea. Consider the kale an added bonus.

Recipe from Martha Stewart

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces spicy Italian sausage, removed from casings and crumbled
  • 2 large onions, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 to 2 bunches kale, thick stems removed
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 9 lasagna noodles, each broken crosswise into 4 to 6 pieces
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 3 cups part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a 5-quart pot, cook sausage over medium heat, stirring often, until browned. Stir in onions; cover and cook until softened. Uncover; cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown. Add garlic; cook for 2 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl.
  2. Add kale and 1/2 cup water to pot; season with salt and pepper. Cover; cook over medium-low heat, tossing occasionally, until tender. Drain; coarsely chop. Transfer to bowl with onions.
  3. Meanwhile, cook noodles 2 minutes less than package instructions. Drain; rinse under cold water.
  4. Add noodles, tomatoes and ricotta to the bowl; season with 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and ½ teaspoon pepper. Toss well. Pour into a 9-by-13-inch baking dish; smooth top with a spatula. Sprinkle with Parmesan. Bake until golden brown, about 40 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before serving.

7. Braised Kale Frittata

We promise this recipe isn’t as intimidating as it sounds. Make it for brunch after a long weekend and reap the benefits of kale.

Recipe from Health.com

Ingredients:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons chopped oregano
  • Cooking spray
  • 2 cups braised kale without cheese, drained, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup chopped cherry tomatoes

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients.
  2. Lightly coat an 8-inch ovenproof cast-iron or nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Heat over medium heat. Add the kale and tomatoes. Cook, stirring, until hot (about 3 minutes). Add the eggs and swirl to distribute.
  3. Transfer to the oven and bake until set and hot (about 20 minutes). Cut in wedges.

Yes, there are other (tasty) ways to eat kale that don’t involve turning them into chips. The next time you think kale is boring, try one of these recipes to ease your mind a bit!

7 Quick Fixes You Can Make to Revamp Your Resume

$
0
0

You wouldn’t go out with scuffs all over your favorite pair of pumps, would you? Probably not—you’d polish them to make them look as awesome as possible. The same should go with your resume!

We know that with your super-busy collegiette schedule, you have great experiences listed, and now you just have to make the finishing touches—the polish. But what are the quick fixes you can make in order for your resume to go above and beyond?

We talked to Emily Miethner, the founder and CEO of FindSpark, a website that gives young professionals the tools to get a great job or internship, to get the lowdown on a few ways to polish your resume and make it the best it can be.

1. Rewrite the sections that you wrote quickly

With great things come a lot of time and effort—we’ve all heard that one before! When it comes to your resume, you need to take your time on it to make sure it comes out perfect.

“To make the biggest difference, you definitely need to put time in,” Miethner says.

As much as you may like to be, you’re not Hermione—you can’t simply wave your wand and create a perfectly written and formatted resume. If there are parts that you did write a little too quickly, make sure you go back and touch them up. Start each bullet point off with an action verb, like “led,” “coordinated” and “developed.” Be sure the skills you choose to highlight from a certain experience are truly the ones you want to emphasize, and make sure they show all that you do!

2. Get rid of any irrelevant experience

We’ve all heard before that undergraduate resumes should be limited to only one page, so it’s really important that your one page shows your best possible self to potential employers.

“You want to make it as clear as possible that you’re relevant for the job as quickly as possible,” Miethner says. That means getting rid of work experience that might not necessarily show why you’re a perfect fit for the company.

So your two summers waiting tables at the local diner? Not super necessary on the resume you’re submitting to that investment banking firm. While Miethner says that while jobs like these definitely had a purpose, they don’t show immediately why you can contribute to a professional job or internship.

Instead, Miethner suggests cutting out your summer job so you have more room to expand upon your experiences with the accounting club at your school. Although accounting club isn’t necessarily work experience, it shows your potential employer more immediately that you have the skills to contribute and succeed at the job for which you’re applying. When it comes to putting your work experience on paper, cut out the waitressing and retail jobs—unless they directly relate to the full-time job or internship you’re looking for!

Miether also says you should list your most relevant experiences first. So, when applying to the investment banking firm, you should probably list your experiences with accounting club first and your experiences as the treasurer of your dance team second. Both clubs have given you skills that you can use in investment banking, but accounting club definitely highlights those skills more and should always be listed first.

3. Update to a great font and layout

As much as we love flowery graphics and pretty borders, we don’t really love them on our resumes. Instead, Miethner suggests keeping your layout simple. Don’t go over-the-top with incorporating color or special designs, Miethner says. Instead, make sure that it’s simple and easy to read.

Miethner says choosing between serif and sans serif fonts is important. Sans serif fonts (think of fonts like Arial, Calibri and Helvetica) don’t have those little horizontal lines at the ends of the letters. Serif fonts (think of fonts like Times New Roman and Cambria) do. This font you’re reading now? It’s a serif font. The default font on your Twitter feed? A sans serif font.

Miethner is a fan of the sans serif font for resumes (so Arial, Calibri or Helvetica) because they lend themselves to titles and bolder type. “I think it’s much easier to read a sans serif font than a serif font,” she says. “Most resumes nowadays are read on the screen, and it’s scientifically easier on the eye to read sans serif on a screen.”

Like everything else, color should also be simple. A pop of color in your header can go a long way in making your resume stick out, but make sure you don’t go too crazy—only use one color, and make sure it’s featured in simple accents.

As far as formatting goes, Miethner says, bearing in mind simplicity, you should keep it consistent.

“Whatever format you do choose, you have to stick with it through your entire resume,” Miethner says. “Otherwise, it’s going to get confusing.”

Read over your resume to make sure all formatting choices are made consistently throughout the entire resume: Make sure you keep your titles the same font size, and make the decision if you’re going to use periods at the ends of bullet points or not. Keep track of the use of commas, dashes and semicolons as well. An inconsistent format is not only confusing for the reader, but shows that you were careless—it’s going to make the hiring manager wonder what else you might get careless about!

4. Check your bullet points for accurate information

Nobody likes having to sort through clutter, and simplicity isn’t limited to your font and layout choices—you should keep it simple in your experience descriptions, too! Miethner says you should avoid repeating duties you did for different organizations.

“I feel like one mistake people make is if they have similar roles, they can get repetitive bullets,” Miethner says. “Make sure that every bullet shows a different skill or accomplishment.”

Miethner suggests highlighting the different and varying duties you had with different jobs and organizations not only as a way to give yourself more room on your resume, but to keep from wasting the time of the individual reading your resume.

This will also help hiring managers see the really important skills on your resume. Instead of cluttering it with repetitive information, the hiring manager’s eye will be directly drawn toward your bullet point about displaying exemplary knowledge of AP Style as an editor for your school paper or your ability to make price negotiations through your campus programming board. There’s no need to distract them from what you can really do with a bunch of fluff!

5. Save it in multiple formats

Have you ever downloaded a worksheet from a professor and the layout on the page was all wrong? That’s because their version of word processor might be different from yours, so the formatting gets all out of whack when opened on a different computer.

You should take that knowledge and apply it to your resume, too. Save it on the default format (.doc, .docx, etc.), but also save it as a PDF. Saving your resume as a PDF is kind of like saving it as a picture, so there’s no way your formatting can get messed up. When sending documents to a hiring manager, be sure to send him or her both formats and let him or her know that you’ve done that for his or her convenience.

6. Spell out all acronyms

When looking over your resume draft, make sure you hunt down all of those acronyms and spell them out! This will give the hiring manager a better idea of what you’re talking about on your resume and will increase your chances of getting recognized for your accomplishments.

So, if you were a member of your student government association, don’t just list SGA President on your resume. Instead, you should spell out the entire acronym—Student Government Association. The same thing goes with different conferences and competitions you participated in. If you were on your college’s cheerleading team and went to the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Championship, don’t just say, “NCA National Champion” on your resume; instead, spell the whole title out.

7. Change the file name

If you’re anything like us, your resume originally had a file name that was really ambiguous, like “resume,” or something like that. Instead, change it to “[First name] [Last name] resume.”

This not only looks way more professional, but makes your resume a lot more identifiable and easy to find for hiring managers, especially when they’re handling a whole swarm of candidate resumes. Nothing would stink more than getting overlooked for a job because the hiring manager couldn’t locate your resume.

It’s always a great feeling when you go out for the night and everyone compliments your super-cute, shiny pumps. You’re looking flawless, and everyone knows it. You’re going to get that great feeling when you polish your resume, too! Good luck, collegiettes!

The Billboard 100 is the place to look for top music artists. It's where songstresses like Taylor Swift win awards and accomplish major feats. Where up-and-comers like Sam Smith or Hozier can rocket into recording artist stardom. And now, Billboard is the place to go if you’re curious about what was hip on the day you were born.

It’s simple. Look for the “This Week In” button on the far right of the Billboard home page. You can flick through any date that you wish. Imagine the possibilities. Relive the top songs from your middle school days. You can even look back to see what was popular when your parents were your age.

You’ll discover all sorts of music history gems. Want to relieve the Top 100 circa 2005? Done. This week in 1979, we would have been jamming to Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” If it were 1991, we would be blasting “Gonna Make You Sweat” by C+C Music Factory from our speakers.

Oh, and here's a hint: don't forget to look up the music videos for your newly-discovered birthday song. You won’t regret it.

Lady Gaga shows up... in an egg (2011)

Gaga hatched just in time to perform "Born This Way;" meanwhile, throughout the event, our thoughts primarily went out to the poor guys who had to carry this contraption around.

Jennifer Hudson pays tribute to Whitney Houston (2012)

The music world took it hard when Whitney Houston passed away tragically and unexpectedly the night before the 54th Grammy Awards. We can't think of a better person to dedicate such a beautiful performance to the talented artist.

Beyoncé proves that SHE runs the world when she breaks records by winning six Grammy's in one night. The record was most recently met by Adele, who also took home six awards in 2012.

Chris Brown Assaults Rihanna (2009)

Not quite the kind of memory we want to be thinking of on a night that's meant to celebrate the music industry, this violent assault is still one that's important not to forget. Domestic violence, abuse, assault; it can happen to anybody, and these are issues we need to continue talking about.

What's In My Makeup Bag: Amber Norell

A girl should never be caught without her essentials and that's why it's important to pack a solid makeup bag. Keeping all of your must-have items in one convenient spot makes it easy to find what you need in a hurry and allows you to toss your makeup bag in your purse for touch-ups throughout the day. I'm always trying out new brands and products, but I generally keep the same ones—my favorites—in my makeup bag at all times. Here's a handful of the fundamental cosmetics in my beauty routine:

Face

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster, $56, Dermalogica.com

I've never been a fan of thick, oily primers but primers do actually have a lot of benefits. They allow you to apply foundation more easily, give you a smoother finish, and help make foundation last longer. The great thing about this product is that it gives you a similar effect to a primer but doesn't leave you with clogged pores and a face that feels like it's under ten layers of makeup.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in NW13, $27, Maccosmetics.com

I have really sensitive skin and this is one of the few foundations that leaves me with a flawless finish without irritating my skin. Another benefit is that it contains SPF which is something you should be applying daily. This is a great option for people with normal to dry skin.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Mineralize Foundation in N3, $35, Maccosmetics.com

I also keep a compact of mineral powder foundation in my bag to touch up if my face is feeling oily and to give extra coverage when my complexion isn't clear. This product is perfect for oily skin, but if you use it in combination with liquid foundation the key is to not overdo it and just apply lightly.

NARS Illuminator in Copacabana, $30, Narscosmetics.com

Everyone can benefit from a little illumination and this product is the best of the best! It can be used as a highlighter to bring out targeted features or you can simply use it here and there to give your skin a beautiful dewy look.

Eyes

CARA Cosmetics Photo Hydra Concealer in C-6, $22.98, Caracosmetics.com

Nothing will ruin your makeup look faster than dark, puffy circles around your eyes and luckily that skin issue is an easy fix. Using a yellow or orange-based concealer like this one will quickly nix dark circles. Be sure to blend and top off with foundation. This particular product is great for all skin tones.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $20, Urbandecay.com

Prepping your eyes for eyeshadow application makes the whole process go a lot more smoothly and it helps your eye makeup last all day.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette, $36, Toofaced.com

This is my go-to palette for a natural or smokey eye look and the metal tin can be easily stored in your bag; you don't even have to worry about the shadows crumbling and making a mess.

MAC Eye Brows Pencil in Fling, $16, Maccosmetics.com

This is a great pencil for filling in your brows so that they look natural and well-groomed when you're on the go. Its twist-up application makes its use even more convenient.

Cynthia Rowley Liner in Black, $16, Birchbox.com

This product is one of the darkest and longest lasting liners I have found. I keep it in my bag so I can darken up my eyes later in the day.

MAC Penultimate Eye Liner, $20, Maccosmetics.com

I find that liquid liner that comes in felt-tip form is one of the easiest to apply. This one is dark, lasts a really long time and doesn't irritate my eyes like some others I have tried. Plus, if the tip starts to wear down, you can carefully pull it out and insert the other side for a fresh applicator.

Mirenesse Vibralash 3 Speed Vibrating 24HR Mascara, $49.95, Mirenesse.com

I am very, very picky about mascara because I have sensitive eyes. This long-lasting formula doesn't bother my eyes and the vibrating wand makes it super easy for precise application. It gives you a dark finish with perfectly separated lashes.

Lips

EOS Lip Balm, $3.49, Ulta.com

Like most girls, I keep one or two of these babies in my makeup bag at all times to make my lips smooth and prep them for the application of other lip products.

NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink, $3.50, Sleekhair.com

This lip liner is the perfect, natural shade for lining your lips prior to putting on a lipgloss or lipstick for a fuller, plumper look.

MAC Tinted Lip Glass in Prrr, $15, Maccosmetics.com
This MAC gloss has a gorgeous shiny texture without being overly sticky and this particular shade gives you a great plumping effect.

Body

LA Fresh Eco-Beauty Instant Body Soother, $9.99, Lafreshgroup.com

It seems like someone always asks you if you have lotion on you and these are the perfect disposable solutions to dry spots when you are in a rush or traveling.

Twitter CEO Admits, 'We Suck at Dealing with Abuse'

Cyber-bullying isn't just for kids.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo recently came out admitting his company has failed to adequately address abuse.

"We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we've sucked at it for years," he wrote in an internal memo. "It's no secret and the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day."

In a later note, Costolo continued: "We HAVE to be able to tell each other the truth, and the truth that everybody in the world knows is that we have not effectively dealt with this problem even remotely to the degree we should have by now, and that's on me and nobody else. So now we're going to fix it, and I'm going to take full responsibility for making sure that the people working night and day on this have the resources they need to address the issue, that there are clear lines of responsibility and accountability, and that we don't equivocate in our decisions and choices."

Twitter was also in trouble in late 2014, when the company reported its staff had received multiple death threats from ISIS.

It is commendable that Twitter is taking tremendous corporate responsibility. To deal with online abuse, the company has partnered with a non-profit to specifically research harassment directed towards women, and is also working on its reporting processes.

But these policies invite important questions about censorship. There can be a fine and blurry line between debate and hate speech. Furthermore, the American public must also ask whether we want companies, or the government, moderating online spaces of speech.

Federal and state laws have attempted to curb cyber-bullying, but many statutes only address minors, and are hard to enforce.

Companies managing their own websites certainly have more power to regulate online harassment, but are also more vulnerable to making arbitrary, and perhaps dangerous, decisions.

The 5 Cutest Things Guys Have Done for Their Girlfriends on Valentine’s Day

Sometimes college guys get a bad rap. We hear stories all the time about players, guys who never respond to texts and those who only want to hook up.  To quote our girl Taylor Swift, aren’t there any guys out there who are more “Today Was a Fairytale” and less “I Knew You Were Trouble”?  But don’t worry, collegiettes; there are college guys out there who really appreciate the meaning of romance, and on the most amorous day of the year, they know how to pull out all the stops to give their girlfriends the romantic memories they deserve.  Read on for the five cutest things college guys have done for their girlfriends on Valentine’s Day.

“I had been dating a girl for a few months, but we agreed not to break the bank on each other. I still wanted to do something nice, so I let my creative side take over. Her favorite candy was Reese's, so I bought a big bag of the heart-shaped Reese's that come out around Valentine's Day and taped them (in their wrappers) to a piece of cardboard in the shape of a heart, then wrote a nice letter on the back of it for her. She loved it! I still got roses and took her to dinner, but I could've just done that on my low budget because she appreciated the thoughtfulness behind it so much.” - Patrick Bradley, Merrimack College

“My ex-boyfriend and I go to different schools.  Since he couldn't visit me on Valentine's Day last year, he surprised me with a package from Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.  He sent me a stuffed animal customized by him with a tag that said ‘Happy Valentine's Day’ in Spanish as I am a Spanish major.  Later in the day I was emailed that I got another package.  He sent me a tin of my favorite cookies.  It was all very thoughtful!” - Liz Bacharach, Bucknell University

“Last year, my boyfriend was studying abroad in Italy, but still managed to make Valentine's Day awesome. He got my friends and his friends together to send me on an elaborate scavenger hunt around campus, and I eventually ended back in my dorm room to find flowers, chocolates, a big stuffed dog and a really sweet letter from my boyfriend. It was adorable!” - Kristin Doherty, Drake University

“This was Valentine's Day 2011. I made a video with pictures of me and my girlfriend, Jenn, interspersed with quotes about love and whatnot to the tune of ‘Don't Make Me Wait’ by This World's Fair. Then I posted the video a couple of weeks before Valentine's Day and told all of her friends and family and my friends and family about it and to go and leave comments on it. Then Valentine's Day, I took her out to dinner at Makoto's Japanese Steakhouse in Boone up at App State and then afterwards gave her flowers and showed her the video. It was a huge success; she loved it.” - Matt Caulder, Appalachian State University

“The day before our very first Valentine’s Day together I was telling [my boyfriend], Brad, how it was kind of sad that it was on a school day where we both had labs/classes/meetings/etc. We usually studied together at night somewhere like the Union, his living room or the lobby of my dorm because that was the only time in our crazy schedules that we could be together, and that didn't sound too romantic. Well, the night before our first Valentine’s, I kept him well past midnight to try to spend more of the holiday together. He was a really good sport considering the sneaky plan he had up his sleeve. The next morning I expected to get a sweet text or even a phone call, but instead I awoke to [my roommate] telling me there was something at the door and then passing it up to my bunk. Brad had woken up insanely early, somehow got into [my] dorm, and left the sweetest surprise gift basket for me to find at my door full of all my favorite chocolates, red ribbon for a Valentine’s Day bow, a hand-cut heart shape and sweet love letter as well as two (COLD!) Diet Cokes! He had thought of everything even down to the tiniest detail. While it made for a terribly unhealthy breakfast, it left me with the brightest smile all day knowing how lucky I was to be surprised so sweetly by my valentine (and now, years later, fiancé!).” - Alex Bradsher, UNC-Chapel Hill

Who Will Win Big at the Grammys?

$

Tonight, LL Cool J will return to host the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for the fourth time. Although the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will give out over 80 awards, four main categories keep most of the nation’s attention.

1. Song of the Year

Sia’s “Chandelier” seems the most promising, but all the contenders are plausible winners. T-Swift’s “Shake it Off” was nothing if not infectious, and the same goes for “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor. “Take Me to Church,” Hozier’s only nomination, sticks out from the rest of the pack. Although “Stay with Me” was everywhere this year, it would be a surprising winner after the recent press about its similarities to Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s “I Won’t Back Down.”

2. Record of the Year

The Grammys can seem repetitive and confusing if you don’t understand the subtle differences between categories. Record of the Year is for one single or track from an album. It differs from Song of the Year in that the award is meant to recognize the performer, not the songwriter.

The nominees for Record of the Year are almost identical to those for Song of the Year, except that Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s “Fancy” replaces “Take Me to Church.” All good tracks, Sam Smith looks like he has a chance at this one.

3. Album of the Year

The nominees in this category include Ed Sheeran’s x, Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour, Beck’s Morning Phase, Pharrell Williams’s GIRL, and Beyoncé’s eponymous surprise album.

Album of the Year is one of the few major Grammys not yet in Beyoncé’s large collection. Beyoncé was one of the most game-changing albums of the year, but she’s far from a shoe-in. Sam Smith and Pharrell tied Queen Bey for most nominations this year, each with six, and both have a chance at taking this one home.

4. Best New Artist

This category always seems kind of funny because music moves so quickly that by the time the award is given out, many of the artists are far from new. The eligibility period for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards was October 1, 2013, to September 30, 2014, so a lot of what you’re listening to now is probably not going to be up for nomination until next year.

Pandora predicts Iggy Azalea will take this one home, but Sam Smith definitely still has a horse in this race. The nominees also include new country music star Brandy Clark, Bastille of “Pompeii” fame, and the sister rock band HAIM.

Beyond awards, Sunday’s Grammys will also be full of live performances, including Sia, Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Miranda Lambert and Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds.”

Anne Hathaway Has a Perfect Reaction to Amal Clooney Resemblance

It’s safe to say that Hollywood has had its fair share of celebrity doppelgangers over the years. In fact, some stars have even admitted to several cases of mistaken identity during fan encounters! For Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, her latest comparison to Amal Clooney was extremely flattering. Luscious brunette locks, beautiful brown eyes, and a long list of note-worthy achievements are just a few similarities between Anne and Amal.

In a recent interview with Extra’s Tracy Edmonds, Anne Hathaway discussed her latest film, Song One. During the interview, Edmonds pointed out that Hathaway bears an uncanny resemblance to human rights lawyer Amal. While Hathaway was surprised by the comparison, she responded to the compliment with grace and poise. “I’ve never heard that! Thank you,” was the reaction from a very surprised, yet humble Hathaway. She further gushed about the remark saying, “That’s like so gonna be the best thing to happen to me today.” Hathaway also acknowledged the philanthropic work Clooney has devoted herself to, hoping to someday “become half the woman she is.” Check out the video below!

We Might be Doing Our Makeup All Wrong, According to Bobbi Brown

You would think that after days and months and years of wearing makeup, we would have the basics down.

Blush? Smile to find the apples of your cheeks. Lipstick? Use a lip pencil first to define your lips. Have we been doing it all wrong?

Not necessarily, but when the beauty gods give us the gift of Bobbi Brown, we listen. If anybody knows how to utilize skincare and makeup to make others feel beautiful and confident, it's her.

For blush, Bobbi says, “I like to use two colors. A natural color that is the color of your cheeks when you exercise… I like to add a pop of a brighter color right on top."

When finding your perfect nude lip color, Bobbi recommends, “to try it on the inside of the lip, and if it just enhances, it’s the right color.”

And when it comes to lip liner, her tip on using lip liner on top of your lipstick had us running to the mirror to try. We’ve been told to always line our lips before lipstick, but her technique not only blends in the lipstick but also gives natural, full lips.

Want more? The brand's YouTube channel also has how-to videos on perfect, luminous skin and gorgeous eye makeup.

These videos take us back to the basics, and that is just what we need as 2015 is picking up and Spring semester is in full gear.

The finished look—with just cheeks and lips—is so polished and stunning that we’ll be wearing it every day the rest of this season! Thanks to Bobbi, we feel #PrettyPowerful.
