16 Funny Halloween Costumes for 2014

If you’re one of the many, many collegiettes who view Halloween as an excuse to dress in ridiculous clothing and get a good laugh out of your friends, you’ve come to the right place! If you can be anything for one day, why not be something hilariously original? Here are 16 ideas to get you started in crafting an entertaining costume!

1. Be Trashy

Make a dress out of a trash bag—all you need is scissors—and when people ask what you are for Halloween just answer, “I’m trashy.”

2. Be Easy

Yet another low-maintenance costume, simply print out a picture of a Staples Easy Button and tape it to your chest.

3. Gold Digger

Stack on all the gold jewelry you own (necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings) and don an all-gold metallic outfit. Complete your look by carrying a lightweight shovel with you for the night or wearing a gold hard hat.

4. Freudian Slip

Perfect for psych majors or anyone who just loves a good pun. All you need for this one is a sexy nightgown or slip you don’t mind ruining and a permanent marker. Write Freudian words like “Oedipal,” “subconscious” and “projection” all over the slip, and you’re done!

5. Loofah

Keep your look squeaky clean this year by dressing up as a bath loofah. All you need is some tulle, a dress to pin it to, and a piece of rope to hang in a loop from the side.

6. Cereal Killer

All this clever costume requires is some mini cereal boxes and fake blood. Perfect for those of you who love puns!

7. Grapes

All you need is a couple dozen red, purple, or green balloons, some leaves to wear on your head and a good five-foot radius on the dance floor.

8. Sexy Waldo

Pretty self-explanatory. If you want to have a costume that’s on the alluring side without being a stereotypical “sexy nurse” or “sexy police officer,” this is a fun way to go. Take something random and make it sexy! All you need to be Waldo is a red-and-white striped shirt and some fake glasses. Get a white-and-red hat with a pom-pom on top, and you’re set! Wear jeans, and don’t forget to use cute taglines like, “Aw… you found me!”

9. Ice Bucket Challenge

For a costume that’s just about as 2014 as you can get, you have to go with the ice bucket challenge. Take a bucket and write “ICE” on it with a permanent marker, then attach silver tinsel around the edges to make it look like icy water. Add blue or silver balloons if you want!

10. Crazy Cat Lady

Who ever said that crazy cat lovers can't be cute? Collect a couple of cat stuffed animals to pin to the shoulder and sleeves of your bathrobe. Roll your hair in some curlers and don some wacky eye shadow, and you'll be good to go!

11. Crayon

Get a solid-colored tank dress and make yourself a matching pointy cap. Don't forget your "Crayola" label!

12. 50 Shades of Grey

This one couldn't be easier: just layer on as many different grey clothes and accessories as you can find, or you can layer grey paint chips all over your outfit.

13. Fantasy Football

Grab a sports jersey from your favorite team and pair it with a tutu, a crown and a magic wand. Poof!

14. Tourist

A classic. Wear the most clichéd clothes and accessories that you can find, including floral shirts and high-waisted shorts (and not the cute kind). Be sure to carry around a map with you all night and take lots of pictures!

15. Broses

A twist on the Moses costume, you can carry around a staff made out of beer cans, or perhaps a tablet with your own 10 Commandments of Bro. Don’t forget your catch phrase: “Let my people BRO!”

16. Plastic Army Toy

Really all you need for this costume is a LOT of green paint. Still, it’s more of a costume for the ambitious collegiette; you have to commit. If you can obtain a helmet and a Nerf gun, you can also paint them green to complete your ensemble. When you go out on Halloween, be sure to freeze in a battle stance at random moments. This would also be fun to do in a group!

What Your Halloween Costume Says About You

$

Boo! Are you ready for Halloween 2014, collegiettes? Whether your plans include attending a crazy party, hosting a scary movie marathon or participating in your school’s kick-ass Halloween tradition, you’re going to need a costume as awesome as you are.

And what message will your costume convey? You may not realize it, but what you dress up as on Halloween says a lot about you!

1. The Group Costume

You and your besties dress up as a group – how else will everyone know how undyingly devoted you are to one another? The group costume exists to send the message that you freakin’ love your best friends (and you don’t care who knows it!). So you whip out your best ‘90s gear as the Spice Girls, duct-tape yourselves into pseudo-iPhone dresses or go wild as zookeepers and animals.

If you’re going to look ridiculous, the group costume ensures that you don’t look ridiculous alone. You may be an individual on any other given day of the year, but Halloween is not that day.

2. The Pop Culture Icon

Miley Cyrus wearing edible jewelry at the Jeremy Scott show? That is the perfect inspiration for the pop-culture obsessed! You have tabs on everything that goes on in Hollywood. Like, literal tabs. On your computer. At any given time, you have E!, Just Jared, Perez and People up on your screen, perusing the newest and most ridiculous celebrity news. You also host Oscar parties, tweet at Kim Kardashian regularly in hopes that she’ll respond and are genuinely pissed that Brad and Angie didn’t invite you when they tied the knot.

You’ll dress up as Nicki Minaj in her “Anaconda” music video, a preggers Kate Middleton or Justin Bieber in his Calvins… and you’ll rock it!

3. The Really Intricate, Homemade Costume

You literally live for Halloween. Not only does it give you the chance to stretch your creative muscles and concoct a costume that everyone will be envious of, but it also means it’s time for your to start making your signature pumpkin cookies that everyone dies for. You start planning weeks (nay, months) in advance for the holiday, perusing Pinterest boards and selling items through your Etsy shop to raise funds for your endeavor.

Eventually, you decide on a costume. Mother Goose. Hermione Granger. Martha Stewart as Medusa. Each of these options speaks to your true self, the one you feel aligned with during the Halloween season. After knitting your entire outfit and making a few dozen cookies for your friends, you still have some time to spare. So you make another costume. Just in case.

4. The Couples Costume

It’s no surprise that you and your significant other are attached at the hip: You’re veritably obsessed with each other! No matter what party you end up at on Halloween, it’s a good bet that you and your SO will be matching in totally awesome costumes.

The obvious choice is to be Beyoncé and Jay Z à la their “On the Run” tour. Or, wait, a better option may be Kim and Kanye. Don’t like the idea of dressing as celebrities? No problem. Matching costumes are just as cute. How about dressing up as Mickey and Minnie Mouse? Adorable!

Whatever you decide, everyone you run into will know that you and your SO are a C-O-U-P-L-E, and you don’t care who knows it. Even if matching costumes are kind of a punch in the face to your single friends, you don’t care. You and bae look super cute. Plus, there’s a fantastic Facebook profile pic in the works with a couple costume. Just wait; come November first, the likes will start rolling in.

5. The Punny Costume

You’re probably an English major, and you think that playing with words is basically the most hilarious thing ever. You’ll dress up as a “cereal killer” by splashing red paint across a Cheerios box and sticking it to your front, or you’ll cover your body in sponges, claiming to be “self-absorbed.” People usually don’t get your punny costume unless you explain it to them first, but that’s okay. It allows you the chance to show your intellectual superiority and wit.

You’ll go to a party for a total of 45 minutes before growing increasingly annoyed with the silly drunk kids running around like idiots, so after sipping on a glass of white wine at some guy’s cousin’s pregame, you’ll go home to read a book.

6. The Disney Princess

It’s a category all on its own because of its prevalence across college campuses all over the country. Collegiettes love dressing up as princesses (because we basically are royalty… right?), and those of the Disney variety are the crème de la crème.

If you dress up as Cinderella, Pocahontas or Belle, you’re probably an elementary ed major who is having a really hard time letting go of your childhood. Instead of pregaming, you’ll be microwaving chicken nuggets (you’re too scared to use a stove) and sipping on a Capri Sun. Your favorite dance songs are from musicals, obviously, and you count the dolls on your bed among your bestest of friends. You do you, girlfriend – as long as you’re in bed by midnight when the princess magic runs out.

7. The Black Cat

Chances are you’ll see approximately a million pointy-eared felines prowling Halloween parties across campus come October 31. And why shouldn’t you? Black cats strike the perfect balance between kinda eerie and super cute. If a kitty-cat is your purr-fect costume, then you probably like to play it safe when it comes to dressing up. It’s a costume that people are used to seeing, it doesn’t have much of a shock factor and it can be dressed up all sexayyy if you so choose.

You feel like you’re participating in Halloween mostly because, well, it’s what you do in college, isn’t it? Your hesitancy shows through the lack of originality in your outfit choice. While your roomies have been planning their extravagant ensembles since before the semester even started, you started digging through your closet on October 30th, hoping to come across a black dress that you could add ears and whiskers to. It’s okay that you aren’t super stoked about Halloween; just give it a chance and you may find that it’s, like, the best holiday ever. (For what you’ll morph into for next year, refer to #3.)

8. The Legitimately Scary Costume

Your idea of a perfect Halloween costume? Something bloody, gory and actually terrifying. You laugh in the face of those who have commercialized a day meant to inspire fear in the hearts of people everywhere, and you’re doing your part to bring the holiday back to its intended purpose.

You listen to Evanescence unironically, count American Horror Story as one of your favorite TV shows and read Gothic fiction for fun. These sources of inspiration lead you to dress up as a bloody undertaker or mass murderer. You think dressing as Charles Manson is totally appropriate and doesn’t cross any boundaries whatsoever. You also kill insects for fun.

What are you dressing up as for Halloween this year, collegiettes? Did we nail down what your costume says about the true you? Let us know in the comments below!

The 11 Best Queer Couples Halloween Costumes for 2014

$

Halloween is the best time to let your creativity shine, but it can also be super stressful deciding on a costume—especially if you’re looking to coordinate with your SO. Factor in the lack of LGBTQ+ representation in the media (and therefore a lack of characters to dress up as), and you’ve got yourself one difficult search. Fortunately for you, Her Campus has you covered! Here’s our complete guide to amazing, unique couples costumes for all the queer ladies on campus.

1. Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner

Dressing as these top models will be anything but boring. To channel your inner Cara, bulk up those eyebrows (or put on some fake ones), add a grey beanie and wear a loose tee with dark skinny jeans and sneakers. Add straight blond locks, and you’re all set.

Kendall typically looks more polished and classic, so opt for a streamlined black-and-white outfit with straight brown hair. A pale pink lipstick and natural eye makeup will be perfect. Finish the look with booties, and you and your SO will be ready to turn your campus into a catwalk!

2. Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson

A total throwback relationship, but an iconic one nonetheless. If you don’t already have freckles, draw some on with eyeliner and wear a tight dress to be Lindsay. For Samantha, you can’t go wrong with black skinny jeans and sneakers plus a cropped haircut or wig. A beanie and some smudged eye makeup will complete the look.

3. Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin

Okay, not a couple. But opposites attract, right? Politically minded couples may choose these famous ladies if they want to be a little less canon and a little more irreverent. Take your cues from Amy Poehler and Tina Fey when choosing your costumes: Red for Sarah and blue for Hillary is a good place to start. Pantsuits and professional-looking hair and makeup are great, but don’t be afraid to have fun with it either.

4. Buffy and Faith

Though not canon, this couple is still many viewers’ fave. Follow our lead, and you will truly slay the competition. Grab some crucifixes and leather pants, and don’t forget a stake!

5. Piper and Alex

Get your eyebrow pencils and eyeliner ready to dress up as everyone’s favorite dysfunctional felons! With some beige scrubs and prison ID badges, you’ll be all set. Don’t forget the nerd glasses and fake tattoos for Alex. If this couple isn’t up your alley, get your swirl on with Piper and Suzanne, or go as besties Poussey and Taystee. The options from Orange Is the New Black are endless—have fun with it!

6. Cher Horowitzand Dionne Davenport

Bad costumes? As if. You’ll be the center of attention when you and your SO walk in decked out as ‘90s royalty. Plaid skirt? Check. Unbeatable hair and enviable hats? Check. All that’s left is the attitude (and a giant cell phone) to complete your Clueless look!

7. Santana and Brittany

With some cheerleader uniforms and killer ponytails, you and your SO can transform into Glee’s favorite on-again off-again couple. You can get a costume online or you can recycle your old high school cheerleader uniform to save some cash.

8. Wayne and Garth

If you want to get your grunge on, opt for this throwback costume. With blond and brown wigs, an oversized flannel and a black T-shirt (which you probably already have!), this Wayne’s World couples costume is quick, cheap and perfect if you’re attending a ‘90s-themed party. Don’t forget the glasses for Garth, and Chuck Taylors are a must!

9. Queer Princesses

If you want to throw even further back, go as Disney Princesses! Any combination, from Sleeping Beauty and Snow White to Jasmine and Tiana, is possible, and costume stores are bound to have what you need for a killer princess look. Most princess costumes can be DIY-ed, and you probably have what you need in your closet!

10. Daria and Jane

Another ‘90s gem, Daria and Jane are the cynical BFFs we all have inside of us. For Daria, a green jacket over a black miniskirt is essential, as are her iconic combat boots and round glasses. Jane, with her wild hair, may be a bit harder to pull off, but you can do it if you wear her red jacket, black shorts, black tights and black boots. The best part of this costume? You get to use backpacks to carry everything you’ll need for a successful Halloween!

11. Lindsay and Tobias Fünke

If you’re looking to get laughs, this Arrested Development costume is a great idea. For Lindsay, DIY a red tank top with her iconic “SLUT” lettering. Add tall black boots and a black miniskirt, and finish the look with blonde hair and red lipstick. For Tobias, denim shorts and a black tank top are necessary, but the key to this costume is the head-to-toe blue makeup.

While there are millions of possibilities for you and your SO to choose from, a coordinated costume is cute and sure to win over any crowd. This list is just the beginning; don’t be afraid to steal from HC’s other costume guides! Whether you opt for a celeb couple or something a little more classic, like Barbie and Ken(dra), have fun with it and add your own flair!

7 Denim Pieces You NEED for Fall (That Aren’t Jeans)

$

0

Denim has always been a classic wardrobe staple, but look into any trendsetter’s wardrobe this season, and it’s easy to see that fashion has been bitten by the denim bug this fall in a serious way—and we’re not just talking jeans, either. From dresses to sneakers, bags to the classic chambray shirt, it’s easy to incorporate denim into your fall wardrobe without even pulling on a pair of jeans. We’ve found seven of our favorite fall denim pieces (and none of them are jeans!) to get you started.

1. Skater Dress

Forget the LBD and try the LDD (the little denim dress) with this Denim Skater Dress ($47.48 at Missguided). We love the way this flirty, universally flattering shape has been updated with a cool-girl acid wash denim look. Pair it with black booties, as shown, for an edgy look, and as temperatures drop later this fall, add tights and a cozy oversize cardigan to get that effortless grunge look.

2. Backpack

What better way to show your love for the denim trend this fall than by carting your books to class in it? We love the way this Denim School Bag ($58 at American Apparel) comes in 3 different washes so you can pick your go-to shade (we all have one!) Match it to your favorite pair of jeans to do the denim-on-denim trend in a subtle way, or pair it with a coat or jacket in a neutral color, like black or grey, to make your walk to class even more chic.

3. Denim Jacket

Denim vests were great for summer, but fall gets a cozier update with this Hooded Denim Jacket ($32.90 at Forever 21). We love the way this denim jacket provides the layered look we love for fall, but without any of the bulk. Pair it with your favorite graphic tee—another fall trend—and black pants or leggings with booties or sneakers for a casual, cozy go-to look this season.

4. Sneakers

The sneaker trend is still going strong, and these Unisex Denim Tennis Shoes ($42 at American Apparel) are proof of that. We love the denim-infused makeover given to this basic sillhouette. Pair them with leather pants or leggings and a comfy oversize sweater for a tiny, on-trend hint of denim in your look, or wear them with a basic black dress to add a bit of edge.

5. Skater Skirt

90’s girls rejoice: The movement to bring back the denim skirt is here, and this Acid Wash Denim Skater Skirt ($15.80 at Forever 21) is the best way to do it. Pair it with a chunky sweater like it's styled above and your favorite booties for daytime, or a crop top and leather jacket for nights out.

6. Overalls

In case our Throwback Thursday didn't convince you, now is the time to take them to new lengths with these Distressed Denim Overalls ($29.90 at Forever 21). Dress up the distressed look with a long-sleeved striped tee and flats for an effortless French girl-esque look or a lightweight sweater and leather jacket for chillier days.

7. Chambray Shirt

What denim lover’s wardrobe would be complete without a chambray shirt like this classic Oversized Button-Down Chambray Shirt ($78 at Madewell)? This is definitely more of an investment piece, but it’s versatile, classic and a must have in every closet. Pair it with your favorite scarf, leggings and boots for class, or dress it up with a leather skirt for a going-out look that’s both classic and cool.

7 Roommate Halloween Costume Ideas

$

0

Halloween is not only great for candy and themed parties, but it’s also a great way to spend time with your roomie. Looking to take your roommate bonding to a new (and more creative) level? Try one of these roommate Halloween costume ideas!

1. Piper and Alex from Orange Is the New Black

Orange Is the New Black completely exploded this year, so Halloween is the perfect opportunity to go as a prisoner without having to pick that overused pinstriped jail costume. Try this costume from Spirit Halloween. Brownie points if one of you wears a pair of black, thick-rimmed glasses to channel Alex!

2. Hannah and Marnie from Girls

If you’re up on pop culture and want to be two millennials for Halloween, you and your roomie could dress up (and act) like the ever anxiety-ridden Hannah and Marnie from Girls!

For Hannah, dress up in your favorite hipster duds: loafers, colorful prints, a baggy T-shirt and high-waisted pants. For Marnie, channel your most chic and put-together self! Wear a body-hugging dress, heels and your hair slicked back in a clean ponytail.

3. Kim and Kris Kardashian

Dressing up as Hollywood’s biggest divas is a great excuse for you to act sassy and get dressed up in something sexy, especially if you’re going to be Kim. Some key pieces you should definitely include in your costumes are large sunglasses, oversized handbags, at least one item with animal print and high heels. If you’re going as Kim, wear a bodycon dress or really any outfit that hugs your curves. If you’re going as Kris, be sure to wear some big hoop earrings. Kudos if you manage to find a prop to act as baby North (even if it’s just a wrapped-up blanket you can cradle!).

4. Max and Caroline from 2 Broke Girls

Max and Caroline are a great duo to dress up as. You and your roommates may be best friends, just like they are, and you both may also be on a budget! To channel Max and Caroline in their signature diner uniforms, you can either purchase a waitress costume or try and scrounge up one from your closets. An oversized yellow T-shirt or dress paired with a red apron made from a towel would work.

5. Betty and Wilma from The Flintstones

This costume idea is a great excuse to show a little skin while dressing up as a blast from the past! You can make your own costumes from scratch or find outfits for both Betty and Wilma at a costume store.

6. Tina and Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers

You don’t have to be siblings to go out as Tina and Louise this Halloween, as long as you both do your best to nail the kooky girls’ mannerisms (Tina’s classic moan!). Louise’s most classic feature is her bunny-ears hat, but she’s best known for her shrill voice. Tina’s outfit is pretty easy to put together – a blue T-shirt and a navy skirt — so that gives you the chance to focus on conveying her awkwardness!

7. Elsa and Anna from Frozen

If you and your roommate experienced (or are still experiencing) Frozen fever, this costume idea is a no-brainer for you two. Whether you want to go all out and match every single part of the duo’s costumes or you just want purchase certain pieces, like a wig or a sparkly dress, don’t worry, because there are plenty of options out there.

Jennifer Lawrence On Nude Photo Leak: 'I Didn't Tell You That You Could Look at My Naked Body'

$
0
0

Jennifer Lawrence is speaking out about the nude photos stolen and posted online in a hack that has, according to TIME, recently affected over 100 celebrities.

Lawrence, who appears on Vanity Fair’s November cover, explains to contributing editor Sam Kashner that this illegal violation of privacy goes far beyond the tabloid headlines that it has made in recent months. “It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime,” she says. “It is a sexual violation. It’s disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change.”

The Hunger Games star is not only angry with the hackers who obtained the photos, meant for a former long-distance boyfriend (Nicholas Hoult), but also with anyone who has viewed the photos, including her loved ones.

“Anybody who looked at those pictures, you’re perpetuating a sexual offense. You should cower with shame,” she tells the mag, on newsstands October 14. “Even people who I know and love say, ‘Oh, yeah, I looked at the pictures.’ I don’t want to get mad, but at the same time I’m thinking, 'I didn’t tell you that you could look at my naked body.'”

While many celebrities, including Kate Upton, Vanessa Hudgens and Nick Hogan (the first male victim of the hacks) have had their photos leaked, Lawrence makes it clear that her fame does not give anyone the right to access her private property.

“Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this,” she says. “It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting.”

As for the hackers, Lawrence says that their future is not important in her moving-on process. “I can't have my happiness rest on these people being caught, because they might not be. I need to just find my own peace."

On another note, now that Nick Hogan (son of Hulk Hogan) has become the first male victim of the hack, it throws into stark relief the disproportionate ratio of males to females who were targeted in the attack. What does this say, when women are targeted first and foremost when someone (or multiple someones) decides to invade the privacy of (and sexually objectify) celebrities? Whether the hackers represent the root of the problem or are a symptom of a greater issue is a larger conversation, but what we do know is that we're angry that women in particular (including our hero J. Law) were specifically targeted.

7 Weird Beauty Product Names

Beauty products often times have names inspired by nature or anything that sounds pretty. How often have you seen a blush labeled, “Rose” or “Summer’s Eve”? Probably all the time, right? But then, there's a whole other category of beauty products with names that make you do a double take. Here are some of our favorite products with unusual, kitschy and weird names that are (almost) better than the product itself!

1.     Lime Crime Liquid Eyeliner-“Orchidaceous” ($14)

Try saying this one three times fast. Drawing from the orchid flower, this eyeliner’s name is a bit of a mouthful, but the vibrant color will make your lips pop.

2.     Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar-“Clockwork” (18)

Inspired by the classic film Clockwork Orange, this burnt orange shade just may be what you need for Halloween this season.

3.     Illamasqua Lipstick-“Apocalips” ($30)

We love a good pun, espically when it comes in the form of a gorgeous matte lipstick. This teal tone is a fun way to experiment with lip color.

4.     OPI Coca-Cola Nail Lacquer-"Today I Accomplished Zero" ($9)

Procrastinators everywhere unite with this fab dark, sparkly shade.

5. NYX Cosmetics Matte Lipstick-"Whipped Caviar" ($6)

How posh is this lipstick? Perfect for days when you need a little extra oomph.

6.     Butter London Nail Lacquer-“Scallywag” ($15)

This pretty glitter shade is just as cheeky as its nautical-inspired title.

7.     Nars Blush-“Tacos” ($30)

And the award for best product name ever goes to you, Nars. Who wouldn’t want to wear this blush? #yum.

What's the wackiest beauty color name you've ever encountered?

Supreme Court Ruling Paves Way For Gay Marriage in Multiple States

$

0

The Supreme Court announced yesterday that it would refuse to review states’ bans on same-sex marriage, leaving the decision up to lower appeals courts, according to USA Today. Going forward, that means an 11 additional states will accept the practice, upping the total number to 30 states that allow same-sex marriages.

The decision to deny appeals made from Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin (which are the states affected immediately) will now allow same-sex couples in these five states to get married.

Another six states – Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming – could soon see the ban be struck down, but an additional court proceeding must still take place.

Though details of the settlement are not available – who voted which way? – it’s clear that the court’s decision could precipitate the legalization of gay marriage in even more states in the future, since the matter is in the hands of lower courts for now.

While today’s decision is a victory for marriage equality advocates, keep in mind that the practice will remain banned in 20 states. What seems to be the ultimate victory for advocates and allies would be a SCOTUS ruling on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage, which would span across all 50 states and tie up any current state laws concerning the matter.

I loved Sacred Heart University's campus right away.  I had taken volleyball camps here and I fell in love with the school, and the facilities.  The people and staff were very helpful and nice, always ready to answer any questions I had.  Academically, I was very interested in their program, as I will be majoring in Graphic Design.  Also, for me the location was important, because I wanted to be close to home. I am involved in ballroom dancing, club volleyball and Theatre.  My interests are drawing, watching old movies, playing volleyball, going to the gym,  and taking long walks.

The temperature is dropping, and Halloween is just around the corner. This can only mean one thing — you need a costume!

Deciding what to be for Halloween can be stressful or a lot of fun. If you’re looking for an adorable couples Halloween costume for you and your SO, you’ve come to the right place. Check out the cutest couples Halloween costumes and how to properly dress for them. There’s something in here for everyone!

1. Salt and pepper

For a classic costume that’s sure to make people laugh, dress up as salt and pepper!

“My girlfriend and I are dressing as salt and pepper, and our dog is going to be paprika,” says Magdalene Cazarez, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. All you need for this simple costume is all-white and all-black outfits with cutout letters (S and P, of course). Throw on a beanie or a silver colander (or dress your dog as Paprika) to make the costume even cuter!

2. Forrest Gump and Jenny

Since this year was the 20th anniversary of the release of Forrest Gump, Forrest and Jenny are cute costumes to wear. For Jenny, a long dress and hippie accessories will do the trick. Try boots, a cardigan, a long bag or a flower headband. For Forrest, a blue, checkered shirt and a khaki jacket and dress pants are all you need. Red baseball cap is optional!

3. Anna and Kristoff from Frozen

For any Frozen lovers (all of us, duh!), Anna and Kristoff is an adorable couples costume. Anna can be complete with braids (get a wig if your hair isn’t red) and a long, blue dress with a pink shawl. Your BF can look like Kristoff in no time with a beanie and a fur-trimmed shirt worn over a long-sleeved shirt.

4. Tris and Four from Divergent

For a fierce costume, dress up as Tris and Four from Divergent. These costumes are easy and comfortable and can be achieved with all-black outfits. To be Tris during her training stage, wear black and gray workout clothes and put your hair in a ponytail. For Four, have your BF wear black pants and a black leather jacket. Carry toy guns for props if you want to be Tris and Four when they’re going into battle.

5. Mario and Princess Peach

If you and your SO are video-game lovers, Mario and Princess Peach are perfect for you! Your BF likely already has shorts, shirts, socks and shoes that will work for this outfit; all he needs is a Mario hat and a fake moustache from a party store. All Princess Peach needs is a pink dress, white gloves and a crown!

If you and your SO are wearing your costumes with confidence, you’re bound to look amazing and have an awesome Halloween. Happy trick-or-treating (or whatever you may be doing)!

11 Lessons We Learned From Our Favorite '90s TV Shows

The '90s were the bomb; life was easier and TV was better. The cartoons and family-friendly sitcoms these days have nothing on what we watched when we were kids. In addition to keeping us entertained, our favorite TV shows taught us a ton about life. Keep reading to take a stroll down memory lane and remember the good old days back when we had fewer worries... and then, let's start a petition to get these all on Netflix.

1. Rugrats

The lesson:

Petty theft is okay when the gain is delicious. Also, Angelica Pickles is a boss.

2. Sister, Sister

The lesson:

If you meet your long-lost twin sister at the mall, the only rational solution is to move into her dad's house with your mom, whom he hates. It's the only way. Seriously, it's not like you can just hang out whenever if you live separately.

3. Hey Arnold!

The lesson:

The correct way to deal with your crush is to be extremely mean to him in person and then unhealthily obsess over him in private (suggestions: create a shrine for him in your closet, carry around his picture in a heart-shaped frame, etc.).

4. Boy Meets World

The lesson:

The key to success is to annoy your teacher at every possible moment for almost an entire decade. Bonus points if he's your neighbor and you can bother him after school hours.

5. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch

The lesson:

YOU WILL NEVER FIND A BOY AS SWEET AS HARVEY. We're sorry, but you won't. It's good that you learned this when you did. Despite this series being about magic and witchcraft, his perfection may have been the most unrealistic part of the show.

6. Rocket Power

The lesson:

Don’t discriminate against shoobies. They may become your best friends and reluctantly participate in all of your shenanigans.

7. The Wild Thornberrys

The lesson:

How to be the coolest, chillest person alive. Debbie was the epitome of cool, so, naturally, you idolized her. She was a hipster before you even knew what a hipster was. If your side bangs didn’t cover your eye, what were you even doing with your life?

8. All That

The lesson:

No French teacher would ever be able to inspire and teach you as much as the one and only Pierre Escargot. Obviously this guy knows what he's talking about - he has a spectacular view of what is definitely the real Eiffel Tower from his bubble bath.

9. The Amanda ShowThe lesson:

If you're lucky and end up reaching maximum popularity, you too can hang out in your high-school bathroom all day long.

10. CatDog

The lesson:

Some questions you have in life—like, "How does CatDog go to the bathroom?"—are better left unanswered.

11. Kenan & Kel

The lesson:

Orange soda is dope.

5 Ways to Make This Your Best School Year Ever

You know those back-to-school clothing commercials with kids in new jeans and stylish tops sporting backpacks and gripping notebooks? The students on TV always look so confident and happy, like they just won the gold medal in Going Back to School. You tell yourself, “That’s going to be me this year!”

Now that you’re almost done with high school, you really want this to be the year you become the best version of yourself: hardworking, productive and successful. Consider Her Campus your personal trainer and make this the year you go for the gold!

1. Get organized

English quizzes, SAT prep, band practice—you feel like you’re busier than you’ve ever been. As a studious and accomplished high school student (yes, that’s you!) applying to college, you have many responsibilities. How do you keep track of what you’ve done and what you need to do? Here are some organizational tips that worked for current collegiettes:

  • Go digital:“I kept a running table on a Google doc that had all of my deadlines and application requirements for college and my SAT goals all in one place,” says Shannon Deliljani, a sophomore at the University of Southern California.
  • Make a poster board:“To keep on track with my college applications, I bought a large poster board,” says Summer Ford, a collegiette at Boston University. “On it, I listed each college and their requirements in an organized chart. Under each college I applied to, I listed the following: number of essays, number of short-answer questions, SAT/ACT score requirement, GPA requirement, transcript submission, application fee, application due date (most important!). There’s obviously more that could be added to the list depending on what's important for the student to remember or submit. As I continued through the application process, I checked off what I had completed for each school.”
  • Keep an agenda:“It's really important to use your planner,” says Gloria Kimbulu, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. “Some people think planners are dumb/nerdy, but they are actually really helpful.”

It doesn’t matter if you like to keep things digital or if you’re a visual learner who prefers an elaborate color-coded poster board. If you find a method that works and stick with it, you won’t have to worry about forgetting to send in that supplementary essay for your top-choice school or having to pull an all-nighter to finish a project that you left till the last minute.

2. Build a strong relationship with at least one of your teachers

When you go to college, classes will be different from what you’re used to in high school. Unless you go to a small liberal arts school, which tend to have small classes, you’re probably going to take at least one lecture class with hundreds of students where the teacher never learns your name. It’ll be rare for you to have classes the size of the ones you have in high school, so take advantage of them and make yourself known to your teachers! Teachers are great resources to talk to about college, and they’re the ones you’ll be going to for recommendations.

Make yourself stand out by staying alert during class. Take notes and ask questions, and don’t be shy about asking questions and stating your opinions. If your teacher sees you putting in an effort during class, she’ll be more amenable if you ever need to reach out to her for help.

A great way to build a strong relationship with a teacher outside of class is to join a club related to something you love. If your favorite teacher doesn’t have a club but is always talking about yoga or Harry Potter, ask if she’d be willing to help you start a yoga club or a Quidditch team! You’ll get brownie points from your teacher (and colleges) for showing initiative, plus you’ll get to meet other students at your school who share your passion.

Teachers are a great source for inspiration and assistance, whether you’re struggling academically or applying to college, so having a strong relationship with one will make your senior year easier during the stressful times.

3. Find a study buddy or study group

Senior year can certainly be stressful, but there’s no reason it should make you feel lonely, too. Find some friendly people in your classes—not your best friend whom you know will distract you with Ryan Gosling GIFs—to go over SAT vocab flashcards or prepare for the upcoming calculus exam with you. A study buddy might offer insights that you wouldn’t have considered yourself, and explaining concepts to other people can be one of the best ways of making sure you understand something.

Worried about reaching out to someone from your class for the first time? “Just relax,” says Claudia Dimuro, a student at New York University. “Don't hesitate when it comes to talking to people. It's your last year – might as well take chances in making new friends.”

If you know you get distracted around lots of people, take this advice from Lara von Linsowe-Wilson, a collegiette at Oregon State University: “Try having Skype dates instead! Doing this makes it easy for you to compare answers and work together with your friends without being able to goof around as much because you're sitting at your desk, which has far less distractions than the typical group setting.” Skyping also means you don’t have to dress up and leave the house—a win-win. And getting help understanding the material while helping your new friends will make this their best year ever, which means everyone wins!

4. Find a reason to enjoy every class

Most of us have at least one class that we think is outrageously boring. Let’s say it’s chemistry. But your best friend absolutely loves chemistry and spends all her time thinking about molecular compounds. So, chemistry isn’t an inherently dull subject—it’s just not your cup of tea. And that’s totally fine, but it doesn’t change the fact that you have to sit through 45 minutes of chemistry every day until you graduate.

Make this the year that you give chemistry (or math, or English, or whatever has left you cold in the past) a chance. Find a reason to be excited to go to every class. Here are some goals that might motivate you:

  • Be an expert on the time periods of your favorite movies and TV shows. The unit on the early 20th century in your European history class will help you find every historical inaccuracy in Titanic.
  • Learn enough about physics to answer your little cousin’s constant questions about why the sky is blue and why the Earth turns.
  • Be able to watch a Spanish telenovela without subtitles.
  • Watch the movie adaptations of the books you read (yes, you read—no SparkNotes!) in English lit. (Just think how much you’ll appreciate Easy A now that you’ve actually read The Scarlet Letter!)

Anything that gets you personally invested in what you’re learning in the classroom will help make learning fun. If you work hard at something because you think it’s interesting and not because you want a good grade, you’re more likely to do well in that class.

5. Sleep eight hours every night

You might think you need to stay up till 3 a.m. every night to study, finish that essay or send in a college application—but don’t. Please.

“Get enough sleep!” Gloria says. “[Staying up late] is not worth it because you're tired and the next day you're going to be tired in class. My advice is to start studying for something three to five days in advance so you're not cramming the night before.”

Use your awesome organization methods to prevent all-nighters. Believe it or not, sleeping more will actually give you more time, since you’ll be more alert during the day and able to get work done more quickly and efficiently.

You may find that college is even better than high school, but in the meantime, make this the year that puts all your other school years to shame!

The Best Scary Halloween Costumes

Do you prefer haunted houses to bobbing for apples? How about fake blood over candy corn? If you know what Halloween is really about (scaring people!), then we've got some super-spooky costume ideas for you. We've compiled a list of the most terrifying costumes imaginable, but with you in mind. We know even the biggest horror junkies among us like to look amazing when we go out, so we've put together a bunch of costumes that are scary but still cute!

1. Zombie

This Halloween, undead is the new black. The zombie look is easy to create if you don't mind applying a little makeup! The best part about zombie costumes is that you can make them out of practically any outfit. Want to show some school pride? Dress as a zombie cheerleader and rock some undead school spirit! Maybe dancing is more your style? Try dressing as an undead ballerina!

No matter what outfit you choose, the makeup is what's going to sell the costume. Make yourself pale and sickly looking (think gray and pale-green face paint), then add fresh bite marks, bruises and rotten wounds all over your body. You can find makeup to create the perfect zombie costume at any Halloween store. Don't forget to get creative with this one - we can't wait to see a zombie professor or an undead barista!

2. Vampire

Vampires are some of the hottest monsters around. This costume has the added benefit of being one where you can dress in a fun, sexy outfit and not have to give up dressing as a blood-sucking creature. Play up on this unique balance of sexy and scary - make sure to pair dark, dramatic clothing with tons of fake blood. Wear a complete purple lace gown, or stick to a tight burgundy shirt or black corset-style top and leather pants if you want to go as a more modern vampire.

You're going to need some fangs, a bunch of fake blood and maybe even a victim! Don't forget to dramatic makeup to finish off the look. Remember, vampires are dead, too, so go pale and sunken on the face, and make your eyes really pop with lots of dark, smoky makeup. For an even spookier look, you can try some purple colored contacts!

3. Bloody Mary

Remember when you used to scare yourself silly at sleepovers when you and your friends tried to summon Bloody Mary in the dark? There are a ton of different versions of the legend, but most involve a mirror, a murder and a ghostly woman covered in blood. No matter what version you whispered about as a child, there is no denying that Bloody Mary was one of the most terrifying things you could think of.

If you don't mind the sight of fake blood, this could be the costume for you. Dress in all white, including white face paint, to make yourself look as ghostlike as possible. Then, it's time for the blood! Splatter fake blood over absolutely every piece of clothing you're wearing, and add some blood to your face as well. Finish the look with a handheld mirror and a plastic knife covered in fake blood, and you've become every preteen girl’s worst nightmare.

4. Medusa

Channel your inner femme fatale with this costume! Medusa is a legendary woman with a glance that was said to turn men to stone. According to legend, Medusa's hair was full of snakes, so there's some really cool potential with this outfit.

Try dressing in gauzy shades of green and gray to evoke a statuesque feeling, and wear dramatic makeup in similar shades. The most fun part, though, is the hair! Section your hair into lots of tiny ponytails, and use temporary hair dye to make your whole head green. Spray dye will work great because it gives your hair good hold. Shape each section into a little twist, and soon you'll have a head full of snakes. You could even get some little toy snakes and weave them in, too!

5. Siren

Digging the reference to Greek mythology (hey, classics majors!), but not sure that Medusa is your style? Dress as a Siren! The Sirens were infamous because of their haunting, enchanted singing voices, which they used to lure men to their deaths. Although they sounded like beautiful women from afar, legend says that they were actually huge, terrifying half-birds. That just means that your costume has to include feathers, and maybe a beak!

When doing your makeup for this outfit, make sure you add some eyeliner wings to get a bit of an avian look, or think along the lines of the eye makeup from Black Swan. Wear some fitted clothing to up the sex appeal—a shell bra could be perfect here—and stick to blues and greens since these creatures lived on cliffs overhanging the ocean. Find a way to work in feathers, whether that means creating your own wings via a hot glue gun or just adding a feather boa to the outfit. Carry a small musical instrument, like a toy harp or lyre, that you can use to lure in men and finish off the look!

6. Headless Anything

If you feel like going for a slightly goofy approach, try going as a headless person! There are many variations on this costume, and they're all pretty hilarious - and terrifying! Most of them involve stuffing a fake body that rises above your shoulders, with your head peeping out from somewhere in the middle. Arrange the arms of the shirt as if you're holding your own head, and you'll be sure to get a lot of horrified looks!

This costume gives you tons of creativity, too. Go as a headless waitress, a headless sorority girl, a headless bride, a headless soccer player... or release your inner history major with a headless Marie Antoinette! If you name it and can imagine the costume, then go for it.

7. Graduation Day

Let's be honest, collegiettes, all the scary costumes we've suggested above pale in comparison to this one! It's hard to imagine something scarier than graduating from college. All that free time, and no more dorm sleepovers and frat parties? Terrifying. Prepare yourself for the big day now by dressing up in your cap and gown this Halloween. Get creative, too, and look a little further than graduation. A great group costume is to dress as what you want to be when you grow up. You and all your friends can dress as your dream (or nightmare!) professions.

So collegiettes, are you ready to let your scary side loose? Let us know what you think of these ideas, and sound off in the comments with your own!

Braids are a quick and easy fix for a bad hair day or for hair that needs to be washed. If you want to switch it up a bit, fishtail braids are a great way to contain your mane with little to no time involved. These braids look more difficult than they are, so here is a step-by-step guide to making these pretty 'dos.

1. Separate your hair into two sections.

2. Take a strand of hair (thinner strands take longer, but you can customize it however you like) from the outside of one section and cross it over to join the opposite section.

3. Take a strand of hair from the outside of the other section and cross it over to the join the opposite section (the one you started with).

4. Continue taking strands from the outside of each section and crossing them over until you reach the bottom of your hair (each section has been transferred to the opposite side).

5. Finish it off with a hair-tie and rock your fishtail braid!

How do you style your fishtail, collegiettes? Let us know in the comments below!

13 Halloween-Inspired Manicure Ideas

With Halloween creeping up (pun intended) around the corner, we’re ready to get into the spooky spirit! While wearing an actual costume is only socially acceptable on the actual day of October 31st, giving yourself a Halloween-inspired manicure is an easy way to celebrate early without looking ridiculous. Here are a bunch of ideas for your Halloween manicure for every nail-art skill level. And don’t worry; they aren’t the typical yellow, white and orange stripes (candy corn nails… groundbreaking).

Tip: Use a base coat for all of these designs so you don’t stain your nails. Also, always use a top coat to seal in your pretty designs and make it chip-resistant for a longer period of time.

1. Plain orange

For the busy girl: one color, no fancy designs and no hassle.

Level of difficulty: Easy

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

Just apply two coats of the orange polish to your fingers for a quick mani. If you want make the color of the orange really pop, start by adding a single coat of white nail polish and let it dry before applying the orange. The white base coat acts as a real “blank canvas” for the orange, so the color comes out truer to the color it is in the bottle. Even if you used your only free 15 minutes of the week to do this, you’ll be super happy whenever you look down at your bright orange nails!

2. Faux claws

For the girl who wants to be fierce every day.

Level of difficulty: Easy

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  • Put on one coat of the tan nail polish, making sure to keep this layer smooth and even.
  • Once the tan is 100 percent dry, tape off the end of your nails with two pieces of Scotch tape.
  • Place the tape diagonally to form a point that meets at the very tip of your nail, and smooth out any bumps or air bubbles.
  • Apply two coats of the black nail polish onto the uncovered parts of your nails, being careful to not let any color get underneath the tape.
  • When the black is dry, slowly peel back the tape, making sure to not pull off any color from your nails.
  • Your cat will have a new level of respect for you after seeing your “claws.”

3. Orange French

For the subtle Halloween enthusiast.

Level of difficulty: Easy

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  • Place a piece of tape on each of your nails, leaving a small space at the tips for the orange polish.
  • The top edge of the tape should be where you want the orange to end.
  • Make sure the tape is smoothed down completely before you paint your tips, and then paint the space above the tape with the orange nail polish.
  • Once the orange has dried, carefully remove the tape and apply a thin coat of the sheer polish to your entire nail.
  • You don’t want to alter the color of your tips too much with this color; that’s why you’ll want to use a thin coat here as opposed to a thicker one.
  • Never has your subtle enthusiasm for a holiday looked so good!

4. Ghosts

For all of us who watch Ghost Hunters and swear it’s not staged.

Level of difficulty: Medium

What you’ll need:

  • White nail polish
  • Black nail polish
  • A toothpick

Instructions:

  • Apply two coats of white nail polish and let it dry completely.
  • Dip your toothpick in the bottle of black nail polish about a centimeter deep, just enough to get some color (but not so much that it’ll be dripping everywhere).
  • Make two dots toward the bottom of your nails for the ghost’s eyes.
  • For the ghost’s mouth, make six or seven dots really close together.
  • Lightly run the toothpick over the mouth dots to blend them together and create one large blob.
  • The next time someone says ghosts aren’t real, just flash them your cute manicure.

5. Spooky Eyes

For those girls who enjoy people watching out of their dorm-room window or Facebook stalking.

Level of difficulty: Medium

What you’ll need:

  • Black nail polish
  • White nail polish 2 toothpicks

Instructions:

  • Paint your nails with two coats of the black polish and let them dry fully.
  • Take one of the toothpicks and dip it in the white polish.
  • Make two medium-sized dots on your nail for the eyes, and let those dry completely as well.
  • Once the white is dry, dip the second toothpick in the black and make small dots inside the larger white dots for pupils.
  • Now you won’t have to feel so alone when you’re two years deep into someone’s Facebook profile at 3 a.m.

6. Stitched French

For the classic girl with a little bit of an edgy side.

Level of difficulty: Medium

What you’ll need:

  • Orange nail polish
  • Sheer pink or nude nail polish
  • Black nail polish
  • Scotch tape A toothpick

Instructions:

  • Follow the instructions for the Orange French (see number three on this list).
  • Wait until the sheer polish is dry before painting on the stiches.
  • Get some of the black nail polish on the end of your toothpick and draw a line horizontally across the bottom of the orange tip.
  • Add five or six smaller lines perpendicular to that one to create the look of stitches.
  • Everyone from the classic prepsters to the trendy hipsters will be staring at your mani.

7. Blood Drips

For the girls who have always been, and will always be, Team Edward.

Level of difficulty: Medium

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  • Paint all your nails with the red polish except for your ring fingers.
  • On your ring fingers, start the design by painting red around your cuticles.
  • If you get nail polish all over your fingers during this step (we’ve all been there), you can go back later with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover.
  • While the red by your cuticles is still wet, take your toothpick dipped in the polish and make 3 dots at various heights across your nail.
  • Going back in with more of the red nail polish on the toothpick, make squiggly lines from the dots to the red base.
  • While this is still pretty wet, take some more red polish on your toothpick and make the lines that connect your dots to the base look more gradual by making them thicker by the bottom and thinning out at the top.
  • You want to make all alterations to your design while the nail polish is still wet to make it easier to blend together and look more uniform.
  • Edward Cullen would definitely approve.

8. Candy Buttons

For the girl who wants to have her candy but maybe not eat it, too.

Level of difficulty: Medium

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  • Paint all of your nails white to start off and let them dry completely before starting the design.
  • Take a toothpick with some turquoise nail polish on it and make two rows of dots going across your nail.
  • You can do this diagonally (like in the picture) or going horizontally across your nails—whichever one you like better!
  • Next, take the yellow nail polish and a fresh toothpick and do the same thing. Follow this with the pink nail polish.
  • The tricky part about this design is trying to get all the dots to be the same size and also making sure that they are evenly spaced and going in straight lines.
  • If the lines start going crooked or the dots are all different sizes, you could lose the look of candy buttons and start moving towards the direction of just regular ole polka dots.

9. Skeletons

For all of us who went through that phase is middle school when we were obsessed with Hot Topic and boys in skinny jeans.

Level of difficulty: Hard

What you’ll need:

  • White nail polish
  • Black nail polish
  • A toothpick

Instructions:

  • Start off by painting all your nails white and letting them dry.
  • For the actual skull face, begin by making the eyes.
  • Get some black nail polish on the toothpick and make two medium-sized dots about a third of the way up from the bottom.
  • These dots should be close to the sides of your nails (make sure there is enough room in between them for the nose dots).
  • For the nose, make two small black dots in between the eyes, but a little higher up.
  • For the mouth of the skull, start by making a black line about from the middle of the top of your nail about a third of the way down.
  • Make two mirroring lines on either side of the initial line.
  • Finally, to define the shape of the skull’s chin, make a triangle on either side of the black lines you just made.
  • These triangles should start at the bottom of your nail and go about as far down as the three black lines.
  • After the triangles are drawn in, make the inside edge of it a little curved so it mimics the shape of a face instead of just having straight lines.
  • Middle-school you would be raving over your mani if she could see it.

10. Nontraditional candy corn

For the girl who read the first paragraph of this article and was sad to see that the striped candy-corn nail would be missing.

Level of difficulty: Hard

What you’ll need:

  • White nail polish
  • Yellow nail polish
  • Orange nail polish
  • Scotch tape
  • A toothpick

Instructions:

  • Paint your nails white and let them dry all the way.
  • Using the Scotch tape, tape off about two-thirds of the way up your nails.
  • Below the tape, paint your nails with the yellow nail polish.
  • Make sure there are no air bubbles under the tape before doing this.
  • Once the yellow has dried, carefully remove the tape.
  • Using your toothpick, make a lot of small dots that are concentrated where the white and yellow polish meet.
  • Continue making small dots up and down your nail, letting their saturation fade as they get further from the white/yellow division line.
  • See? How much cuter is this than three boring stripes?

11. Glittery Black French

Perfect for the glitzy Halloween partygoer.

Level of difficulty: Hard

What you’ll need:

  • Black nail polish
  • Sheer pink or nude nail polish
  • Orange glitter nail polish
  • Scotch tape

Instructions:

  • Follow the instructions in for the Orange French (number three on this list), except instead of using orange nail polish, use black.
  • Once your French has dried, you can begin to add the glitter.
  • To paint the top of your nails, don’t wipe the excess off the brush on the inside of the bottle.
  • Take the polish-covered brush, turn it so it’s on its side and dab on the glitter over the black on your tips.
  • Repeat this as many times you want to, depending on how thick you want the glitter.
  • Go down the rest of your nail with the glitter, dabbing like you did for the top.
  • Make sure to fade out the amount of glitter you’re applying to create an ombré effect.
  • Don’t be surprised when people at your Halloween party are paying more attention to your nails than to your costume.

12. Jack-o’-Lanterns

For the girl who loves the real thing, but hates the pumpkin guts.

Level of difficulty: Hard

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  • Paint your nails with two coats of the orange nail polish.
  • On top of the orange, add one coat of the glitter nail polish to give the jack-o’-lanterns some depth.
  • With the toothpick and black nail polish, carefully draw little faces onto your nails.
  • You can look online for some inspiration if you’re having a hard time deciding what types of faces to draw.
  • You don’t have to limit yourself to the traditional jack-o’-lantern faces; people get crazy when they carve their pumpkins, so why not go a little crazy with your nails as well?
  • When you’re done, you’ll have 10 little jack-o’-lanterns with you wherever you go!

13. Spiders

For girls who are deathly afraid of spiders, have no fear! These spiders are too cute to be afraid of.

Level of difficulty: Hard

What you’ll need:

  • Orange nail polish
  • Black nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • 2 toothpicks

Instructions:

  • Start off by painting all of your nails orange and allowing them to dry.
  • Next, go in with some black nail polish on your toothpick and make medium-sized dots in the middle of each of your nails to make the bodies of the spiders.
  • Add little L shapes to either side of the bodies for legs and one straight line connecting the body to the top of your nail by the cuticle for a web.
  • Allow the black polish to dry.
  • Go in next with the white nail polish on a new toothpick and make five dots on each of your nails: three on the orange part of your nail for background decoration, and two toward the tops of the spider bodies for eyes.
  • Once the white polish has dried, make two small black dots in the centers of the two white eye dots to add more detail to the eyes and to make the spiders look super cute and friendly.
  • You might even forget about your fear of spiders because of how harmless the ones on your nails look.

Each year, the month of October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness—whether it's educating women on how to perform self-exams or raising money for charities that support breast-cancer research. There are tons of way for collegiettes to get involved, but for those who might not be ready to run a 5K or marathon, we have good news: You can join in on the cause from the comfort of your dorm room! College Fashion Week 2014 Kicks Off in Boston: Show Recap

In case you couldn't make it out to the first stop of College Fashion Week 2014 in Boston this past weekend, we've got the inside scoop on what you missed! The spectacular event, held on October 4th at The Estate Club, was a huge success, with lines winding down the block. Check out snapshots of some of our favorite moments!

The weather was off to a rather icky start, but that didn't stop these eager guests! Fashion waits for no one! Hundreds of collegiettes turned out in their finest to see the season's fab new fashions.

Backstage, things were heating up! TRESemmé, the official hair care sponsor of CFW, sent fantastic stylist Tyler Laswell (pictured below) and his team over to put together all of the super-chic looks. The Imperial Casual Double Bun seen above turned out so well! How amazing would this hairdo be for a night out with the girlfriends? Follow these easy tips to recreate the look for any collegiette occasion!

  • Apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse on damp hair, and rough-dry.
  • Wrap hair loosely around the barrel of a 1-inch curling iron, leaving ends out. Alternate the direction you wrap the hair around the iron to create an irregular wave.
  • Start at the forehead and pull the hair at the crown of the head back and secure in a small messy bun with a bobby pins.
  • Next, pull the hair from the temple back into a small messy bun directly below the existing bun and secure with a bobby pins.
  • Lightly pull loose wisps around the hairline forward for a airy, relaxed look.
  • Evenly mist the look with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for a shiny, just-left-the-salon look!

For more hair how-tos, check out TRESemmé's ultra-helpful YouTube demos.

The professional headshot station was a hit! These ladies' LinkedIn profiles are going to be a whole lot happier now that they have some incredible headshots to feature.

Headshots weren't the only a-maze photos these Boston collegiettes walked away with! Attendees had the chance to play around in The Bosco photobooth courtesy of Premium Outlets, which creates GIFs out of a series of your snapshots! Yes, you heard us right: A GIF OF YOURSELF. This is the moment your inner star has been waiting for! Check out the GIFs here.

bareMinerals, the official beauty sponsor of CFW, offered makeup touchups and provided so many goodies for event attendees. Many collegiettes even received a full-sized, shade-matched foundation and a high-quality brush; score! The girls had so much fun getting flattering make-unders from the bareMinerals experts, highlighting their features and feeling more fabulous than ever on a fun night out.

Boston University's all-male a capella group, the Dear Abbeys, charmed the crowds with their smooth tunes. Oh, and everyone was swooning.

As the official fashion sponsor of CFW, U.K.-based retailer boohoo.com showcased the hottest trends on the runway and in the fashion closet! From the U.K.’s best-kept secret to one of the fastest-growing international e-tailers, boohoo.com has quickly evolved into a global fashion leader of its generation; it's obvious why when you see its style-savvy looks!

This streetwear ensemble from the boohoo Brooklyn Princess (streetwear gets sleek with a feminine touch) scene was one of our faves, and not just because the phrase on that graphic T-shirt speaks the truth ("Always dress as if you're going to see your ex")! Other scenes included trends like Imperial (military styling gets a grown-up makeover with utility jackets and silky rompers) and Woodlander (all about English heritage, with kitsch forest prints and an earthy brown color palette). Do we want them all? Yes, yes we do. Plus, at affordable prices, the clothes the collegiettes modeled could easily end up in all of our closets in no time.

These shoes are simply to die for. We're so envious of the collegiette model who got to rock these down the runway!

This is just a snippet of the dazzling night, collegiettes! For more photos, check out the Facebook album or "like"College Fashion Week to get even more behind-the-scenes snapshots and updates! If you thought Boston's show was awesome, get ready, because College Fashion Week 2014 is only just getting started. With three stops left in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco, there's still a whole lot more fun and fashion in store! We hope to see you at one of the next shows - RSVP now to score your spot!
