Lili Reinhart Revealed Her First Impression of Cole Sprouse & It's So Relatable

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse may have yet to confirm their romance (even though there is definitely some major evidence that they are), it’s safe to say that the two Riverdale actors really like each other. However, according to a new video interview with Glamour Magazine, it looks like it wasn’t always that way, with Reinhart revealing that Sprouse didn’t exactly make the best first impression on her.

The cast of Riverdale participated in “friendship exercises” in an interview with Glamour, and revealed their first impressions of each other. Sprouse and Reinhart admitted, through their first impressions, that they weren’t always fond of each other.

“I thought his voice was annoying. I was like, ‘That guy’s got an annoying voice.’ And now it’s grown on me, I guess,” Reinhart said of Sprouse, smiling.

Sprouse, meanwhile, admitted that Reinhart was a “tough egg to crack,” adding that she didn’t open up to her castmates right away, Just Jared reports.

“She’s very shy at first and reserved. I think it was about halfway into the first season she started letting people in truly,” Sprouse said of Reinhart.

While the two actors’ first impressions of each other might not have been the best, the (probable) couple said that they now have the utmost respect for one another, Hello Giggles reports.

Their answers are so touching and heartwarming, so now is your chance to grab some tissues.

Reinhart said she admires Sprouse’s passion for art and photography, saying, “Cole is one of the smartest—the smartest person—that I’m friends with. He’s incredibly passionate about art, about photography, about acting. And I really admire that.”

Sprouse returned the compliment, saying that Reinhart was very nurturing and has a way of making those around her feel better.

“Maybe your mother inspired this in you, but you are by nature a caretaker and an extremely nurturing person,” Sprouse said. “You just want to make people feel better and help people get through whatever they're getting through.”

The actor went on to say that Reinhart “inspires excellence out of everybody she works with,” and inspires him to be a better person.

Aww, you two!

Riverdale returns on October 10th on The CW.

HC Wake-Up Call: Trump Was Laughed at During UN Speech, Cruz Spotted Looking at Opponent's Photo During Flight & Six Flags 'Coffin Challenge'

Good morning, Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

President Trump “Didn’t Expect” to Get Laughed During UN Speech

President Donald Trump, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, was met with laughter after he touted his administration’s accomplishments in his address.

“In less than two years, my administration has accomplished almost more than any other administration in the history of our country,” Trump said in the beginning of his speech, prompting laughter from the crowd.

“Didn't expect that reaction but that's OK,” Trump responded.

Trump had said that the United States is “stronger, safer and richer country than when [he] took office.”

“We are standing up for America and the American people and we are also standing up for the world. This is great news for our citizens and for peace-loving people everywhere,” Trump continued.

Trump continued to list of his administration’s accomplishments, including his administration’s progress with North Korea, and defended his decisions that some in the international community have criticized. The president pushed back at criticism of some of his other foreign policies, including moving the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, imposing tariffs on China and withdrawing from the U.N. Human Rights Council, as well as threatening the International Criminal Court.

According to ABC News, the theme of Trump’s speech was that every nation had a “sovereign” right to make decisions for itself.

“We reject the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism,” Trump added, calling on other countries to fend for themselves as well.

“America will never apologize for protecting its citizens,” Trump said.

Ted Cruz Spotted Looking At Photo of Political Opponent During Flight

Sen. Ted Cruz was spotted looking at a webpage that appears to be for Rep. Beto O’Rourke, the Democrat running against him for his Senate seat in the midterm election, during his flight from Texas to Washington D.C.

According toPolitico Playbook, Cruz was photographed during his flight early Monday checking out the photo of O’Rourke on his phone. Cruz, who was once predicted to be an easy shoo-in for the seat, is now facing quite a battle against his opponent.

The photos made their way around the internet, with individuals adding snarky comments to them.

The pictures add to an already bad week for Cruz. The senator is on the Senate Judiciary Committee that is currently considering the Supreme Court nomination for Brett Kavanaugh, who has been accused of sexual misconduct. On Monday, Cruz was heckled out of a Washington restaurant by activists who were chanting, “We believe survivors!”

One protestor asked Cruz if he believes the accuser’s accusations against Kavanaugh, and what his stance on Kavanaugh’s nomination was.

“God bless you, ma’am,” Cruz replied.

Six Flags is Hosting a 30-Hour “Coffin Challenge”

It’s undeniable that Six Flags is fun. But is it laying-in-a-coffin-for-30-hours-straight fun? Well that’s the question that the amusement park is asking its roller coaster enthusiasts. For a prize of two season passes, a $300 cash prize and the “slightly used” coffin itself, Six Flags in St. Louis, Missouri is presenting a “30-Hour Coffin Challenge” this Halloween season.

According to Hello Giggles, to make the solitary confinement a little less lonely, Six Flags is allowing those partaking in the challenge to bring a friend to keep them company during operating hours. Talk about squad “ghouls.” At night, however, the participant is on their own, with potential visits from “Fright Fest Freaks” who “will be lurking about in the darkness.”

This sounds absolutely frightening.

Of course Six Flags is making the whole thing a little more bearable by allowing six-minute bathroom breaks every hour and they are even providing meals. The question remain, though — does the lid of the coffin stay closed during all of this?

If being stuck in a coffin for 30-hours appeals to you, you can apply online for the challenge, which will take place October 13th to October 14th. While the coffin is provided, you do have to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow to for your new “coffin sweet coffin.”

There is a catch, however. Only one person will win the $300 cash prize after competing for 30-hours; everyone that completes the 30-hour challenge will get season passes, though. If you don’t make it through the entire 30-hours, however, you don’t get anything at all.

So if this sounds like the challenge for you, apply for the challenge and live out your Dracula dreams.

What to look out for…

5 Must-Have Items for Your Off-Campus Apartment

This article has been syndicated from The Honey Scoop, an InfluenceHer Collective Member. Read the full post here

Junior year just started, and that means that I have graduated from the dorms. It also means that I am my own roommate, and my room does not have a built-in fridge, desk, or bed for me. In these last couple of weeks, I’ve found there are different room essentials required once you get your own space.

I’m learning quickly that dorm life is very different from off-campus life — having your own room in college is a new thing, considering I was so used to living with people. At first I didn’t know what I would need in my room, because I certainly was not used to having that much space to myself at school. But after a couple weeks, I’ve been able to compile a list of everything you need in your off-campus apartment

So whether you moved in recently but feel like you’re forgetting something, or you’re seeking inspo, check out these room essentials for your own college space.

1. Nightstand

Everything You Need In Your Own College Room at the Honey Scoop - college bedroom ideas, college bedroom, college bedding, college bedroom apartment, college bedroom ideas apartment, college bedroom decor, college bedroom organization, college nightstand, college nightstand ideas, nightstand decor, nightstand ideas, nightstand decor bedroom

In the dorms, you can get away with not having a nightstand, and there is barely any space for it. But in your own room, you certainly can have one. I have my books stacked on top, along with some flowers, a lamp, and some pens to annotate my books.

2. Desk

Everything You Need In Your Own College Room at the Honey Scoop - college bedroom ideas, college bedroom, college bedding, college bedroom apartment, college desk organization diy, college desk decor, college desk organization dorm, college desk essentials

I brought this desk from home, and it has been a great addition to the room. For college, I would recommend bringing furniture from home or buying some from a friend who is graduating. I use this desk for doing schoolwork and getting ready.

3. Cart for all your junk items

Everything You Need In Your Own College Room at the Honey Scoop - college bedroom ideas, college bedroom, college bedding, college bedroom apartment, college desk organization diy, college desk decor, college desk organization dorm, college desk essentials

These Ikea-inspired carts are a gift from above. You know that one drawer at home where you stuff everything that doesn’t have a place? That’s the purpose this piece serves (but in a more organized way). I fit all my folders on the top shelf, books in the middle, and school supplies on the bottom. I also recommend putting your cart next to your desk for easy access.

4. Cute bedding

Everything You Need In Your Own College Room at the Honey Scoop - college bedroom ideas, college bedroom, college bedding, college bedroom apartment, college bedroom ideas apartment, college bedroom decor, college bedroom organizationI got this bedding in celebration of graduating from the dorm-twin-bed. I love having a white one because it makes the room feel airy and bright. Sometimes I feel like I am falling asleep in a big, puffy cloud – and that is quite a wonderful feeling.

5. Curtains

Everything You Need In Your Own College Room at the Honey Scoop - college bedroom ideas, college bedroom, college bedding, college bedroom apartment, college bedroom ideas apartment, college bedroom decor, college bedroom organization

It’s wonderful to have some real-looking windows when you have your own room. Gone are the days of sharing one small window for a dark dorm room. And if your shades let light through, I recommend getting blackout curtains so you can sleep at night.

Halloween can be a stressful time where it seems everyone is trying so hard to create the smartest, best-looking costume to be the star of the party. Most of us dream of the perfect Halloween costume but find we just don't have the time to go out and search through hundreds of outfits and accessories, just to end up creating everything by hand. There's no need to be disappointed with your efforts, however. For us lazy-girls, there are plenty of easy statement pieces that can make any outfit Halloween worthy, even at the last minute.

1. Some spooky earrings

Some simple, spooky earrings can be the perfect addition to make any outfit Halloween worthy. It's up to you whether you want to go more cute, such as a cat on a broom, or creepy, such as skeleton hands. We think Liven Co.'s Skull Post earrings are the ideal choice between cute and creepy; you can even wear them after Halloween to make your day to day outfits a little more daring.

2. A mystical necklace

If earrings aren't your thing, you can always choose a Halloween-themed necklace to creep up your outfit. Many options can work for both Halloween season and afterward, where it just becomes another unique piece of jewelry. Jen Hansen's Small Moon Necklace is one such choice; who doesn't love a crescent moon?

3. The obligatory little black dress

The perfect LBD can be the base of any Halloween outfit and is perfect for parties. Try and find an option that is a little more unique to create the best costume, such as Boston Proper's Beyond Slim and Shape Strappy Dress, which features shoulder straps reminiscent of a spooky cobweb. All you need to do is find a toy spider and you'll be set!

4. A classic black jumpsuit

Like the LBD, a black jumpsuit is a staple piece of any wardrobe. To make it Halloween-worthy, just add a few accessories like a witch's hat and broom or a flower crown and go-go boots. Dress Up's Cara Front-Tie Maxi Jumper is the perfect choice that is stylish and elegant enough to wear the rest of the year. It's also versatile enough to be the base of any Halloween costume.

5. A pair of black heels

Black heels are a must to dress up any outfit and are perfect for that dark, spooky Halloween theme. Try and find a pair with lace, which can resemble cobwebs in a pinch yet still be perfectly classy for the rest of the year. We recommend Adrianna Papell's Hazyl Black Chagall Lace heels that feature a pointed toe perfect for any witch.

Have fun mixing and matching and being creative with your statement pieces. The best part is, you can wear all of these year-round, making you the real winner of Halloween!

'Manifest': 7 Burning Questions We Have After That Premiere

$

On Monday night, NBC premiered Manifest, a supernatural drama that is clearly heavily influenced by Lost, though in this case, the passengers bring the mystery home with them: their flight lands five-and-a-half years after it took off. The majority of the pilot episode tackles the aftermath and how the main characters deal with coming back to a life that has moved on without them.

First up is the narrator, Michaela (played by Melissa Roxburgh), who spent the flight debating whether or not to get married to her longtime boyfriend Jared, who ended up marrying her best friend in the interim, and dealing with the aftermath of a serious car accident. Her brother Ben (played by Josh Dallas of Once Upon a Time fame) was also on the flight with his son Cal, who is suffering from leukemia. When they arrive back home, Ben's wife Grace welcomes them all back home, but Cal's former twin sister Olive is now five years older than him. Finally, there is Saanvi Bahl (played by Parveen Kaur), whose research revolutionized the treatment of cancer while she was gone. A lot happened in the pilot episode, which set up the rest of the season and left us with some burning questions.

1. What happened on Flight 828?

The biggest question everyone on the show (and the audience) has will certainly take the whole first season, if not longer to be answered: what happened on Flight 828? For the passengers on said flight, they simply experienced a "weather surge" that consisted of some heavy turbulence. For everyone else, the plane had disappeared and everyone had been presumed dead for five years. Did the plane go somewhere in between as the lead investigator believes? Whatever the case, something clearly occurred during that flight that changed the lives of hundreds of people. This is a question that will likely be teased out for the entire series to create a sense of intrigue that ties everything together.

2. What is the significance of the number 828?

Besides being the number of the missing flight, the number 828 crops up multiple times throughout the show, always in the most important scenes. The last words Michaela's mother spoke to her were from Romans 8:28—"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” This quote is something Michaela latches onto in trying to figure out what is going on and why she disappeared. Finally, the number on the house where the kidnapped girls were being kept was 828. What does this number mean? Is it purely related to the religious significance or is there something else going on? One thing we can know for sure is that this isn't the last we're going to see of 828.

3. Who did Michaela kill in a car accident and how will this continue to affect her?

Throughout the episode, Michaela brings up her guilt, multiple times, regarding a car accident that killed a woman named Evie. For how guilty Michaela seems to feel, everyone else either ignores the issue or tells her to move on, which doesn't seem to be very understanding or supportive of the issue. Due to the number of times it came up and how it seems to be affecting Michaela's actions, we are sure it will play a bigger part in the series as a whole. The big question now is, who is Evie and will we ever see her in a flashback scenario? And could the accident be part of the reason Michaela is hearing voices?

4. Who or what is behind the mysterious voice affecting the passengers?

Speaking of hearing voices, who or what is the cause of the voice both Michaela and Ben, and surely other former passengers, are experiencing? Michaela told her brother the voice sounds like her own, so has she just become psychic and it is coming up through the voice in her head? Or is there a more sinister explanation? The religious overtones throughout the show might hint towards a more divine explanation; on the other hand, this could be a trick by the producers to turn our attention away from what may really be causing the commands. Either way, it seems like the voices are only working for good, from having Michaela stop a bus before it hit a child who ran out into the street to finding and rescuing two kidnapped girls.

5. Will Michaela and Jared ever get back together?

Throughout the episode, Michaela struggles with the relationship she has with Jared, particularly as she had made up her mind to marry him during the flight. During her disappearance, he ended up marrying her best friend, which is sure to cause some drama. There are still clearly some feelings involved, as seen by the lengths Jared goes to protect Michaela and his statement after she opened up to him that she still takes his breath away. We have yet to meet the best friend/new wife, but clearly this is not a great scenario for any of them to be in. We can expect some back and forth between Jared and Michaela throughout the rest of the season and will hopefully learn more about their history together as the show continues.

6. Who is texting Grace and what does Olive know?

One of the biggest plot twists during the 40-minute episode was when a mysterious number messaged Ben's wife Grace asking if she had told Ben yet. Grace responded saying that she needed more time and that he had to understand her situation. The only conclusion we can come up with is that Grace had started seeing someone during her husband's disappearance. But why all the secrecy? Surely Ben would understand the situation. There is also the question of Olive, who clearly knows what's going on with her mother and the mystery man (or woman). Who will be the one to break the news to Ben and how will he and Cal react? Is it really an "affair," or is there something more ominous going on? Either way, this is sure to kick up the drama of the show, at least for the next few episodes.

7. Who destroyed the plane and why?

In the last five minutes of the episode, the plane that had carried all the missing passengers blew up in front of a handful of the returned, including Ben and Michaela. Who blew up the plane? Or was there a supernatural cause as Michaela hinted in her ending narration? And why were only some of the passengers drawn back to the plane only to see it be destroyed? This seems like a bad move on the part of the being orchestrating these events, as it will only bring the lead investigator's suspicion even more down on those present. The explosion also brings up the question of why such destruction was necessary. Was there something on that plane that gave a clue towards what happened to everyone on Flight 828? Hopefully we get more of an explanation in the second episode.

Manifest is clearly a show that aims to intrigue its audience and keep us all wondering what happened to Flight 828. The focus on human to human connections is also important, and makes it a much deeper show than it could have been. We can't see what new action episode two brings!

Dunkin' Donuts Is Dropping The 'Donuts' In 2019, Apparently & I'm Confused

$

Dunkin’ Donuts Chief Marketing Officer Tony Weisman revealed to the public that after 70 years, the company will be changing its name to “Dunkin’” in 2019, according to a press release from the coffee and dooughnut chain.

Weisman states that the rebranding will be “simpler, shorter and more modern.”

“And while donuts may no longer appear in our logo, we remain committed to serving our signature donuts and will continue to offer new and seasonal varieties to delight donut lovers everywhere. There is no Dunkin’ without donuts,” the press release says.

People on Twitter were obviously confused about the rebranding — and more than ready to take the cast-off doughnuts, if any existed:

I don’t know about you, but the name-change is a head scratcher. Dropping the ‘Dunkin’ from “Dunkin Donuts” is like dropping the ‘Burger’ from ‘Burger King’ — or changing ‘IHOP’ to ‘IHOB.’

Considering that Dunkin' Donuts is a cultural staple for a good part of the country (America runs on Dunkin, after all), the decision to change the name may be hit or miss for their customers.

A Sorority In New Mexico Is Under Investigation For Allegedly Making Racist Comments

In “I am so tired of white supremacy” news, the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter at the University of New Mexico is under investigation after it was reported that members made racist comments at a welcome event for members of UNM Greek life.

According to Teen Vogue, students overheard a group white women repeating comments including “Black people, get away from me,” and “Black people, stop wearing grills.”

Many students also report hearing the group making derogatory comments about the speaker, director of student health and counseling Stephanie McIver, because she is black.

These comments came as no surprise to black students at UNM. Vice president of the UNM Black Student Union, Dannelle Kirven reported to Yahoo Lifestyle that while she was not present at the welcome event, the comments made by the Kappa Kappa Gamma members were not surprising.

There is a “racist climate” on campus, she said. Kirven also reported that most black students have stories of experiencing microaggressions on campus and treated much more harshly by UNM security guards.

Incidents of racism in the Greek system and on college campuses in general are unfortunately all too prevalent. In 2015, Sigma Alpha Epsilon members at the University of Oklahoma were filmed singing a racist chant. The members identified in the video were expelled and the OU SAE chapter was expelled from campus.

Both the university and the national branch of Kappa Kappa Gamma are investigating the incident.

A Third Woman Has Come Forward With Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Brett Kavanaugh

$

With less than 24 hours before Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is scheduled to testify, along with his first sexual misconduct accuser, a third woman has stepped forward with new allegations.

In a sworn declaration posted to Twitter, Julie Swetnick claims that she was at a high school party in 1982 where Brett Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge were in attendance. She claims she was the victim of a gang rape at this party and that her drink, “was drugged using Quaaludes or something similar,” causing her to become disoriented and “unable to fight off the boys raping me,” CBS News reports.

"I also witnessed efforts by Mark Judge, Brett Kavanaugh and others to cause girls to become inebriated and disoriented so they could then be 'gang raped' in a side room or bedroom by a 'train' of numerous boys,” her testimony reads. “These boys included Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh."

Attorney Michael Avenatti who is representing Swetnick, was slammed by President Donald Trump in a tweet on Wednesday morning calling him a “third rate lawyer.”

Avenatti is also representing Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who is suing President Donald Trump and his lawyer, Michael Cohen for defamation and violation of campaign finance law for paying $130,00 in hush money to the actress for not disclosing her sexual relationship with Donald Trump. Avenatti tweeted that Kavanaugh should not be confirmed without a full and complete investigation.

Kavanaugh's called the allegations from Swetnick, "ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone," and appeared on Fox News earlier this week and said, "I've never sexually assaulted anyone."

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNBC, the White House “stands with Kavanaugh.”

Swetnick, who is a 55-year old certified systems engineer revealed she was a resident of Washington, D.C. and has held multiple work clearances at the: Treasury Department, U.S. Mint, IRS, State Department and Justice Department. She stands behind her allegations and is prepared to testify if necessary.

Avenatti told MSNBC, “My client has been issued a number of security clearances by the federal government over the years. She has been fully vetted time and time again, and she is an honest and courageous woman. And I'm going to caution Donald trump, Brett Kavanaugh, Chairman Grassley and others, if they try to come after my client or engage in some smear campaign, they better pack a lunch because we're going to respond two-fold.”

Kavanaugh will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday morning with a scheduled vote for Friday morning.

Baby Ariel Discusses Her New Book 'Dreaming Out Loud'& Her Transition From Musical.ly to Original Songs (Exclusive Q&A)

Ariel Martin, better known online as Baby Ariel, has been dominating social media for the last couple of years. After getting her start on lip-syncing app musical.ly in 2015, the 17-year-old gained millions of followers across multiple social media platforms and now juggles a role on digital series Baby Doll Records, her own YouTube channel and a budding music career with fan-favorite singles like “Aww” and “Perf.” On October 9, Ariel will release her first book, Dreaming Out Loud, which combines personal anecdotes with advice for her fans about dealing with romance, drama, and the other hardships of teenage life. Ariel chatted with Her Campus about her love for her fans, her struggles with the writing process and her journey to becoming a pop recording artist.

Her Campus: We’re so excited for Dreaming Out Loud. What made you decide to write a book?

Baby Ariel: I get a lot of questions online from my fans asking for advice about school and about social media, because it’s such a new world and it’s crazy. I just wanted to give them a more personal way of connecting with me, and some personal advice from my own experiences on social media, and with kids at school, and with love and relationships. [I wanted to] help them know that they have somebody who cares about them, and they have somebody who understands them and what they’re going through.

HC: We think that will be such a great resource for people, especially your younger fans. What main message do you hope your fans can take away from Dreaming Out Loud?

BA: Hopefully to dream in color, always. And to dream out loud, and just to be themselves and not worry about what anybody says about them.

HC: Writing a book about your life is obviously a very personal process, especially if you want to keep it real and be honest that things aren’t always as picture perfect as they may seem on social media. What was the hardest part of the writing process for you?

BA: On social media, I’m able to talk about my life—I talk about my crushes and my friends and all the happy things that go on. But in this book I really wanted to dig deeper and talk about those tough times I had with family, with friends, with breakups. Sometimes [those experiences] are not the easiest to talk about, but I really wanted to talk about them and get into that place.

Going in depth and getting into detail was difficult, but I wanted to do it.

HC: You mentioned social media—you have millions of followers, which must be a huge amount of pressure, especially because you’re still so young. How do you stay grounded, knowing you’re constantly in the public eye and all these people look to you for advice and support?

BA: I’m lucky—I have the most wonderful family, the most wonderful friends. And for me, it’s because of the way I was raised and the people I surround myself with. It was never a question of not remaining humble and grounded, because it’s always been who I am, and who my family is, and who my friends are. They’ve really helped me stay true to who I am and where I’m from.

HC: And as for your fans, you’ve made YouTube videos about surviving school, and periods, and other things they may be going through, to make sure they feel supported and that they can look to you for advice. Do you ever feel a responsibility to act as a role model to them?

BA: It’s not so much that I feel responsible, it’s more that that’s just what I want to do. I love them so much, and I care about them so much, and so naturally that’s just what I want to do. Because I get all these questions online from them—that’s partially also why I am creating this book, to give them even more advice—I want to give them as much as I possibly can, because I genuinely want to help them on their first day of school. I want to help them through whatever they’re going through so they know they’re not alone.

HC: It’s so awesome that you want to give back to them and support them like they support you, because not everyone does that. We also wanted to talk about your music. It’s clear that you love music, considering you got your start doing videos on musical.ly. But did you always know you wanted to create original songs or was that something that came to you later?

BA: 100 percent. I think I wrote my first song when I was, like, five years old and in pre-school. My dad is a musician, so it’s always been a part of my life and my upbringing. I’ve been taking piano classes and singing lessons my whole life.

I knew I wanted to do it one day, it was just a matter of when I was confident in my music enough to actually release it, and [when I would] have the right people and support. I knew I always wanted to do it because it’s what I love to do and it’s what makes me happy.

HC: How did you find musical.ly? How did you decide that was something you wanted to do?

BA: I found musical.ly about three years ago, during the summer. I came across the app randomly, and I started creating these lip-syncing videos on it, without any real intention of going anywhere with it. I just made them for fun.

People really started to connect with my videos and from there, I began to research other social media influencers and social media platforms, and figured out how people actually do social media for a living. They do social media, and then they’re able to pull music into that, or pull acting into that, or even pull a book into their social media world, and so that was when I realized, okay, this is what I want to do, let’s continue with it. Totally random, really.

HC: It’s great, though, when something unexpected can turn into one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. That must be really cool.

BA: Oh, 100 percent. It’s crazy how that happens—it’s funny, during my elementary school life and my middle school life, I always loved to sing and act, but there was never a club at school that had acting and singing and video and all this stuff. So once I found musical.ly and social media and this whole world, I knew this was what I wanted to do, and I just went for it.

HC: As far as creating original music goes, what was the transition like going from lip syncing to making a career in the music industry? Were you ever nervous about that?

BA: I was super nervous! It’s funny because in my personal life, it was never a real transition because I’ve been singing my whole life. But publicly, it was definitely a transition.

I was nervous, of course, [about] what people were going to say, but once I got over that fear, I was confident in my music and my family loves it, my friends love it. I realized my fans will love it, and it’s going to be fine. I can’t worry about what people are going to think, or how well it’s going to do. I do it because I love it and because I hope that it will make my fans happy. That’s all I really want with it. As long as it’s going to make at least one kid happy, that’s all that matters to me.

HC: It’s definitely made people happy. On all your music videos, people in the comments really seem to love them.

BA: Oh, thank you!

HC: Of course! So, can we expect more new music in the near future? What’s next for you?

BA: You can expect tons of new music in the future, of course! I’m doing my book tour at the end of this year, and I just finished filming something for a month that I can’t say anything about, but it’s going to be crazy. And I’ll of course be working on my writing and my acting and my singing.

The 'Stranger Things' Cast Got to Visit the Upside Down IRL & Their Reactions Were Priceless

If your job was to interact with scary things every day, nothing would really scare you anymore, right? Wrong.

Stranger Things stars Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, and Sadie Sink visited the new Stranger Things-themed attractions at Universal Studios’ “Halloween Horror Nights” annual event. The four got a chance to explore a maze modeled after the show’s paranormal alternate universe, the Upside Down.

A video from Universal Studios shows the cast greeting fans outside the attraction before anxiously awaiting the maze, which will be featured in both Universal Studios parks in Hollywood and Orlando on select nights through November 3. The cast was creeped out by the familiar, including the same flickering light motif from the Netflix hit, the interior of Will Byers’ house, and the sight of a Demogorgon monster.

“The first Demogorgon, I’m not gonna lie, I was not planning this,” Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, recounted his entrance into the maze. “I wasn’t trying to be the center of attention. That scared me!”

Even though the Stranger Things kids are surrounded by these creepy happenings in Hawkins, Indiana all the time, that doesn’t stop them from freaking out when they see something familiar, including versions of themselves. In the video, Gaten Matarazzo becomes uneasy when he sees a rendering of his character, Dustin. “No!” he yells. “That’s not me!”

The Upside Down maze debuts at Universal Studios just in time to satisfy the Stranger Things cravings you’ve begun to develop around this time of the year. Netflix has delayed the release of Stranger Things season 3 to summer 2019, so this spooky yet endearing video should tide us over in the meantime.

Trump Defends Kavanaugh, But Says He Could Change His Mind About His Nominee

In a press conference after a day of meetings at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Donald Trump vehemently defended his Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh, but said that he could change his mind and withdraw his nomination after hearing Kavanaugh’s accusers’ stories and testimony

“They're giving the women a major chance to speak. Now it's possible I'll hear that and say hey I'm changing my mind. Hey, that's possible,” Trump said. “If I thought he was guilty of something like this, sure.”

Kavanaugh and his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, are set to answer questions regarding her allegations and offer testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in a much-anticipated political moment that could make or break Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

According to ABC News, Trump said that he plans to tune into the Senate hearing.

“It's possible they will be convincing,” Trump said during his solo news conference.

In the past two weeks, three separate women have come forward with accusations against the Supreme Court nominee, with the third woman stepping forward with new allegations less than 24 hours before the scheduled hearing.

The president rejected any suggestion that he order an FBI investigation into the sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, USA Today reports.

“Here there was nothing to investigate,” Trump said. “They didn’t know the location, year. They didn’t know anything,” Trump added, apparently referring to Ford, Kavanaugh’s first accuser, who alleged that the Supreme Court nominee sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school.

“It’s not going to change the Democrats’ minds. They destroyed a man’s reputation and they want to do more,” Trump said, defending his nominee.

The president admitted that, referring to the #MeToo movement, this was a “big moment for our country” but said it’s “because you have a man who is very outstanding but he has very strong charges against him probably charges that nobody is going to be able to prove.”

“Always I heard you are innocent until proven guilty,” Trump said. “I have heard this for so long, and it is such a beautiful phrase. In this case, you are guilty until proven innocent. I think that is a very, very dangerous standard for our country. With that being said, I look forward to what she has to say. I also look very forward to what Judge Kavanaugh has to say. I think it is going to be a very, very important day in the history of our country,” Trump continued, referring to the Senate hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Trump added that he wished Kavanaugh’s accusers had reported their allegations years before.

“It’s a very tough situation for a woman. There’s no questions about it,” the president said. “And in some case, they do report it. Frankly, had they reported it, it would have been pretty amazing, wouldn’t it? But I guess they didn’t. And that’s okay. I’m not saying they had to report it. Because it’s a very personal thing. It’s a very big problem. There’s no question about it.”

At one point during the press conference, Trump appeared to sympathize with his Supreme Couty nominee, saying that his years as a reality television star and as a Manhattan real estate mogul he faced numerous allegations himself.

“I’m a very famous person, unfortunately. I’ve been a famous person for a long time but I’ve had a lot of sales charges made against me, really false,” Trump remarked. “People want fame. They want money. They want whatever.”

When asked whether he thought that Kavanaugh’s accusers were lying, Trump said, “I won’t get into that game. I only tell you this. This is one of the highest quality people that I have ever met. And everybody that knows him says the same thing. And these are all false, to me. These are false accusations in certain cases, and certain cases even the media agrees with that.”

When asked again by reporters, the president said that he would “have to watch tomorrow. I have to read.”

Kavanaugh & Ford Release Their Opening Statements Ahead of Senate Hearing

One day before the expected dramatic showdown on Capitol Hill, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, have released their prepared opening statements to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Kavanaugh wrote that “this effort to destroy my good name will not drive me out,” while Ford wrote that she is “terrified,” but considers giving her account of Kavanaugh’s sexual assaulting of her when they were both in high school to be her “civic duty.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee released Kavanaugh’s prepared statement as news broke of new sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh by a third woman, raising new questions about the fate of his Supreme Court nomination.

“I drank beer with my friends, usually on weekends. Sometimes I had too many,” Kavanaugh says. “In retrospect, I said and did things in high school that make me cringe now. But that’s not why we are here today. What I’ve been accused of is far more serious than juvenile misbehavior. I never did anything remotely resembling what Dr. Ford describes.”

Kavanaugh wrote in his statement that he denied Ford’s allegations of sexual assault “immediately, unequivocally, and categorically,” and asked the Senate Judiciary Committee the following day to hold a hearing so he could testify and clear his name, ABC News reports.

The Supreme Court nominee argued that has been a “frenzy to come up with something” to block his nomination, and that “such grotesque and obvious character assassination...will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from serving our country.”

Kavanaugh argued that a federal judge must always be independent and not “swayed by public or political pressure,” adding that that is the type of judge he is and always will be. He added that these allegations and “effort to destroy [his] good name” will not intimidate him from withdrawing from his nomination.

In his statement, Kavanaugh wrote that sexual assault allegations must be taken seriously and those who make the allegations “deserve to be heard.”

The Supreme Court nominee reiterated his denial of Ford’s allegations, stating that he has “never sexually assaulted anyone—not in high school, not in college, not ever.”

“The record of my life, from my days in grade school through the present day, shows that I have always promoted the equality and dignity of women,” Kavanaugh wrote.

via Alex Brandon/Associated Press &ResearchGate.net

In Ford’s prepared opening statement, she said she believes that Kavanaugh was “trying to rape [her],” referring to the incident she said happened at a house party in the summer of 1982 where Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her and covered her mouth so she could not scream, ABC News reports.

“I am not here because I want to be. I am terrified. I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school,” she wrote, adding the impact that the incident had on her life.

Ford wrote that she had been “friendly with a classmate of Brett’s” and that it was “through that connection” that she came to attend a number of parties that Kavanaugh also attended.

While she said it was difficult to recall all of the details of the incident, such as where the party took place and how she got there, she said that she has never forgotten Kavanaugh’s actions and that they have “haunted [her] episodically as an adult.”

She recounted the details of the assault, saying that she walked up a flight of stairs at the party and was pushed into a bedroom from behind when she reached the top of the stairs. It was then Kavanaugh and Mark Judge entered the room, and Kavanaugh pinned her to the bed. According to her statement, it was when Judge jumped onto the bed that the three of them went tumbling and Ford was able to escape.

Though she kept the incident to herself for years, when she learned that Kavanaugh was on the “short-list” for the Supreme Court nomination that she reached out to her congresswoman.

At the end of her prepared statement, Ford wrote that her “motivation in coming forward was to provide the facts about how Mr. Kavanaugh’s actions have damaged my life, so that [the committee] can take that into serious consideration” as it makes its decision on “how to proceed.”

“It is not my responsibility to determine whether Mr Kavanaugh deserves to sit on the Supreme Court. My responsibility is to tell the truth,” Ford concluded.

HC Wake-Up Call: Fourth Kavanaugh Allegation, Trump Would Prefer Not to Fire Rosenstein & Register to Vote Through Snapchat

Fourth Sexual Assault Allegation Against Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh answered questions about another sexual assault allegation during a call with Senate staff on Tuesday.

Sen. Cory Gardner received an anonymous letter from a constituent accusing Kavanaugh of assaulting an unnamed woman that he was dating 20 years ago, NBC first reported Wednesday.

via Saul Loeb/Agence France-Presse

According to a redacted transcript released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Senate staffers asked Kavanaugh about the allegations via phone.

In the letter, dated Saturday, September 22, the constituent alleged that in 1998, while Kavanaugh was assisting with the Kenneth Starr report, which laid the grounds for impeaching President Bill Clinton, the Supreme Court nominee was socializing with the constituent’s daughter and four friends at a Washington D.C. bar.

“Her friend was dating him, and they left the bar under the influence of alcohol. They were all shocked when Brett Kavanaugh shoved her friend up against the wall very aggressively and sexually. There were at least four witnesses, including my daughter. Her friend, still traumatized, called my daughter yesterday, September 21, 2018, wondering what to do about it. They decided to remain anonymous,” the constituent recounted her daughter’s version of the event.

Kavanaugh denied the latest allegation.

“We’re dealing with an anonymous letter about an anonymous person and an anonymous friend,” Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “It’s ridiculous. Total twilight zone. And no, I’ve never done anything like that.”

In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for the Senate Judiciary Committee told The Huffington Post that the committee “regularly receives anonymous letters, some of which are viewed with credibility, but many of which are not.”

“To make sure no stone was left unturned, the committee asked Judge Kavanaugh yesterday about this anonymous letter. Judge Kavanaugh flatly denied any such event ever happened,” the spokesperson said.

President Trump Says He Would Prefer Not to Fire Deputy AG Rosenstein

President Donald Trump said that he would “much prefer keeping” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, despite recent reports that the Deputy AG suggested invoking the 25th Amendment last year to attempt to remove Trump from office.

During a press conference following the gathering of the United Nations General Assembly, Trump told reporters that he may postpone his scheduled Thursday meeting with Rosenstein to discuss his tenure, so as to not interfere with the Senate hearing in which Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is to testify about sexual misconduct allegations brought forth by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

“I may call Rod tonight or tomorrow and ask for a little bit of a delay to the meeting, because I don't want to do anything that gets in the way of this very important Supreme Court pick,” Trump said.

via Associated Press

Trump had scheduled the meeting with Rosenstein to discuss his professional fate, as well as the future of the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, USA Today reports.

Appearing to offer support of the Justice Department official, Trump told reporters that Rosenstein told him he did not discuss invoking the 25th Amendment, while offering to wear a wire to gather evidence of the president’s erratic behavior following the sudden dismissal of former FBI Director James Comey.

“He said he never said it, he said he doesn't believe it,” Trump said. “He said he has a lot of respect for me, and he was very nice and we'll see.”

Trump added that he “would certainly prefer” not to fire Rosenstein, but did not make a commitment one way or another before having a face-to-face meeting with Rosenstein.

Amidst questions about Kavanaugh and Rosenstein, Trump again denied any involvement in Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election and denied claims by numerous women that he has committed sexual assault, USA Today reports.

“I've had a lot of false charges made against me,” Trump remarked.

You Can Now Register to Vote Through Snapchat

With the 2018 midterm elections quickly approaching, the deadline for voter registration is also upon us. While registering to vote can seem confusing, the process is getting increasingly easier with technology, and this year, you can now register to vote through Snapchat.

On September 25th, Snapchat celebrated Voter Registration Day by connecting its users to a nonprofit voter registration group called TurboVote. In a news release, Snapchat announced that users who are at least 18-years-old will have an access to a link in their profiles that will allow them to register to vote.

According to Hello Giggles, if you are eligible to vote in the United States, you will see a little yellow dot next to your profile icon when you open the Snapchat app. If you go to your profile, you will find a banner asking you to register to vote. When you click on the banner, Snapchat will redirect you to TurboVote where you can complete the registration process. TurboVote, who partnered with Snapchat for the new feature, will also send reminders of upcoming elections, registration deadlines and polling locations, Democracy Works reports.

Snapchat also added special filters so you can share that you have voted and encourage your friends to vote, too.

Snapchat’s partnership with TurboVote is so important since it will help encourage young individuals to register and actually vote.

Regardless of your political ideology, it’s important to make your voice heard. So make sure to cast your vote on November 6th!

What to look out for…

The Kavanaugh hearings will take place today. Here’s how you can watch Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimonies.

Michael Kors Bought Versace for $2.1 Billion & I Have A LOT of Feelings

The Fashion industry has been in a bit of chaos lately after the news broke that Michael Kors would be acquiring the world-renowned Italian fashion house Versace for $2.1 Billion. However, this isn’t the first time the former Project-Runway judge has acquired a well-known luxury brand. In 2017, Kors bought the well-known luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo for $1.2 billion.

In the fashion world, it’s not uncommon for companies to buy other brands, in 2017 Coach (now Tapestry inc.) bought Kate Spade for $2.4 billion. To be clear, Michael Kors himself did not buy Versace, his company did. The Michael Kors Holdings, which is under the leadership of John D Idol, has seen through these purchases of the luxury brands. Michael Kors Holdings will be undergoing a re-brand and be renamed to Capri Holdings. This is common to last years rebrand of Coach Inc to Tapestry Inc.

Even with the re-brand by Kors, the addition of Versace to the company is still strange considering the style differences of the Michael Kors and Versace brand.

While Kors is more ready to wear, Versace is more luxury. Since Michael Kors is “more accessible” than it’s high luxury counterparts, including Versace. At the end of the day, Versace is Haute Couture and Michael Kors is not. It was only last year that Kors saw large sales plummets which resulted in it closing 125 stores, this was measured several months after Jimmy Choo was purchased. This brings me to the biggest question: Can Michael Kors keep up with the costs and desire of such a large and notable brand as Versace? I guess we’ll have to see.

Oh, and the Michael Kors/Versace purchase is ALREADY getting the meme treatment because…the internet.

How Changing 1 Thing About the Way You Drink Water on Campus Could Save $7,800

$
0
0

Ah, back-to-school season. From preparing the trunk of your car for move-in day, to raiding your local furniture store for all last-minute dorm/apartment decor, the beginning of the fall semester is always filled with some hectic traditions. The most memorable tradition, perhaps, is the giant grocery haul you make when you arrive back to college town. You know, the annual grocery trip where everyone and anyone is at the local store stocking up.

It’s easy to go down every aisle and mindlessly pick up all of the essentials, but you’d be surprised by just how much some of these products rack up your total. A sneaky culprit for a high grocery bill is water — yes, water. Stocking up on those giant cases of plastic water bottles might seem like an easy and fairly affordable way to get your hydration on, but that’s further from the truth.

Over the course of your four years at college, you may find yourself spending upwards of $7,800 just on bottled water. This is a huge expense on top of your student tuition, textbooks, and everything else that comes with being a college student. As a college student, cutting down any and every unnecessary cost is absolutely crucial (especially when you’re dealing with student loans).

Instead of grabbing a few cases of water at the beginning of your semester, establish a new routine for drinking water. Kick your water bottle tradition to the curb and try a Brita Stream. With their filter-as-you-pour technology, the Brita Stream delivers safe, clean and fresh filtered water in a matter of seconds. All you need to add is tap water from any sink or faucet and Brita does the rest.

Convenience is key

Sure, grabbing a water bottle from your fridge may seem like a quick and convenient way for taking your water on-the-go. But keeping up with purchasing cases of water bottles and constantly stopping at the convenience store on campus can be a time-consuming part of your day-to-day routine. Taking a few seconds to pour water into the top of a Brita Stream pitcher, giving it a few more seconds to filter, and pouring it into a bottle is truly a time saver in the long run.

Also, instead of being that roommate who takes up an entire shelf with just water bottles (it happens), take the initiative when the fall semester starts to save space with a Brita that only takes up a fraction of the space.

Hydration with health in mind

Not only does giving up your bottled water habit save you some serious money but drinking filtered water can actually be beneficial to your overall wellness.

Bottled water can contain BPA, or bisphenol A, which is a potentially harmful industrial chemical found in plastics. Ditching one-time-use plastic water bottles for a safer, more sustainable option is an easy way to become more mindful about what you’re consuming. Using glass or BPA-free plastic drinkware, you can easily pour clean, filtered water from your Brita Stream for an at-home solution. And for an on-the-go option, there are tons of trendy reusable (and BPA-free) water bottles out there that can easily be filled with chilled filtered water.

Brita Stream can also clear out the most common chemicals found in tap water, such as chlorine, aluminum, and fluoride, leaving you with crisp, clean water whenever you need it. This is also perfect for when you want to use filtered water when you’re brewing coffee in the morning or freezing ice cubes for a refreshing ice-cold drink. Plus, clean water means clean tasting water — nothing really beats the taste of cold, refreshing filtered water.

The Earth says thank you

It’s not a secret that plastic water bottles aren’t the most environmentally friendly. Every second, 2,000 water bottles are used. Let that sink in. It’s easy to say that using a few or even just one water bottle a day won’t make a huge negative impact, but if everyone has that mindset...you get the picture.

Do your part and take care of Mother Earth with a much more sustainable option. A single Brita Stream filter can replace up to 300 water bottles, and over time this can really make a difference on your carbon footprint. Choose a cute reusable water bottle — whether it’s an aluminum container or a tumbler with a reusable straw — and fill it on up with filtered water from your fridge. Or, if you feel like switching it up every now and then, try using several different reusable bottles. This way, you can change up your bottle for whatever mood you’re in or for when your other bottle is in need of a wash.
