Say Goodbye To Snow Days? A South Carolina School District Will Instead Make Students Learn Online

I cried tears of joy as a kid for the rare snow day in my school district. They were few and far between, so I cherished those days off with an epic snowball fight or a marathon of Disney movies. As I grew up, snow days became the perfect excuse to write my 10 page research paper the next day. Now, I feel as if I should apologize for the kids, who will not be able to enjoy the splendor and carefree times of a snow day.

A school district in South Carolina has got rid of the beloved snow day and replaced it with online classwork. Last week, the Anderson County School District 5 announced via social media that the district was chosen to test an eLearning program in South Carolina. This means when the kids aren’t able to go to school, teachers will send the work to them.

According to WFSB, the district is the first to eliminate snow days in the state and replace them with online courses. Anderson School District 5 Superintendent Tom Wilson told The Washington Post that “It just makes good sense.”  He explains that a small average of students actually attends makeups, so it makes no sense to run buses.

The district would announce the school was closed and to conduct an eLearning day just like any snow day. After concern from parents, the district also mentioned that the assignments wouldn’t require any internet access. Any students without power or with technology issues will have five additional days to complete the assignments. Students would be able to download assignments on their Chromebook ahead of time.

According to the Washington Post, the district is still figuring out how many children lack Internet or will have trouble accessing online assignments. The superintendent said that younger children may receive assignments that don’t require computers.

So far the response has been positive says the Wilson to the Washington Post, but he does expect more questions down the road.

It’s good to know that Obama and Joe Biden still hang out with eachother even after their time in office is over.  By the looks of video of the two together at lunch, their bond is as strong as ever!

The former president and vice president were seen having lunch together on Monday at Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown. “Look who stopped by @DogTagBakery for lunch today!” the establishment tweeted.

According to its website, the bakery provides disabled veterans, military spouses and military caregivers work experience and lessons on how to run a business.

As seen in the video posted on the businesses Facebook, Obama and Biden ordered a ham and cheese sandwich.

According to Huffington Post, the two have not been seen together publically. They’ve been at the front of so many memes because their “bromance” is iconic. Obama has also kept a pretty, low profile since leaving the White House.  According to WJLA, Michelle Obama and him were spotted dancing together at the Beyonce and Jay-Z concert in Maryland. Joe Biden is a front runner for 2020 presidential nomination, if he decides to run.

Thanks to social media, we got a whole play by play of their outing!

At this moment, we all wish they were back in office.

One person got a quick picture of the two at their booth.

Obama even took the time to speak with other customers.

#stillmypresident Look who stopped into #dogtagbakery today! ❤️❤️❤️

Long live the former POTUS/VPOTUS bromance!

Expensive beauty products can be really elusive. Are they actually any good? Should you really be buying something so expensive? But almost everyone has at least one beauty item they've splurged on! Whether it's a hair, makeup, or skincare product, we all have that one thing we're willing to drop our paycheck on. To feel less alone in our expensive taste, we chatted with seven collegiettes from all over the country to see what their most expensive beauty product purchases were. Brb, adding these to our list!

My Burberry Perfume by Burberry, $72

Fragrance is a super common item to spend big bucks on. Alexa Garcia, a sophomore at George Mason University says, “I bought [My Burberry perfume] because I really really love the scent and I’ve never smelled anything like it before. I was also in Paris at the time and I knew the best perfumes are made in Paris.”

Is a trip to Paris in your future? Now you know what to buy!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, $54

When splurging on an eyeshadow palette, you definitely want it to be high-quality with a good amount of color options. Hannah Newman, a junior at Millersville University, said she decided to purchase the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette because “I had seen people everywhere talking about the Naked palettes and they seemed so popular and fancy to me. I chose to buy the Naked 3 because I loved the soft pink shades that it had!”

Check before you buy––It’s always super important to make sure you like the shades so you’ll get your money’s worth.

Related: 8 Instagram-Famous Makeup Products That Are *Actually* Worth The Hype

La Mer Sunless Tanning Lotion, $100

Sunless tanning lotion is awesome for avoiding that winter paleness, but a good one can definitely cost a pretty penny. Gabriela Vascimini, a sophomore at Columbia University, highly recommends La Mer, saying“It’s amazing and totally worth the $100!”

Pro-tip: use latex gloves for even coverage and so you don’t stain your hands.

Body Lotion and Perfume Set by Victoria’s Secret, $30

Once again, perfume can definitely lean towards the pricier side. With Victoria’s Secret, though, their perfume mist and lotion sets give you a little more bang for your big buck. Avery Dill, a junior at Brenau University, loves her set.“[I was drawn to] the packaging,” she says.“I’m very girly, so the packaging was practically screaming my name.”

Avery suggests using the lotion and perfume for special occasions to make it last a bit longer!

Matte Skinstick Concealer by Fenty, $25

We’ve been obsessed with Fenty since Queen Rih launched her line. Iesha Ismail, a senior at University of Florida, says “I bought my first high-end product last week and it was the Matte Skinstick concealer by Fenty! It was $25 but it felt very worth the price, since Fenty has such a wide shade range. I found one that fit my skin tone perfectly.”

Props to Rih for being the first to include forty shades of her foundation products!

Morphe’s Jaclyn Hill Palette, $38

Another aspect to look for when spending a large amount of money on an eyeshadow palette is a wide range of diverse colors. University of Missouri - Columbia graduate Micki Wagner says “I think the most expensive beauty purchase I’ve made was Morphe’s Jaclyn Hill Palette. It was almost $40, but it was the first quality eyeshadow palette I’ve ever bought, and it was such a good investment piece.”

She adds, “There are a ton of colors, and it’s a perfect place to start from if you’re getting into doing more involved eyeshadow looks. It was totally worth the money. 10/10, would buy again!”

We might just have to do our own splurge on this one.

Too Faced "Better Than Sex" Mascara, $23

A good mascara is sometimes the key to a perfect final touch on a makeup look. Too Faced’s "Better Than Sex" mascara definitely lives up to its name. Alex Thomas, a sophomore at Arizona State University, says “I’m addicted to using "Better Than Sex" mascara. It’s definitely pricier than a generic mascara you could buy for like $10, but it makes my eyelashes look so full and long;I can’t use anything else!”

While sometimes it can be hard to justify a big beauty purchase, it’s also good to treat yourself every once and awhile. Next time you’re at Ulta or Sephora, try out something you wouldn’t normally shell out so much cash for and enjoy your new product!

An Aeromexico Plane With 101 People On Board Crashed, But Officials Say Everyone Survived

An Aeromexico plane carrying 101 people — 97 passengers and four crew members — crashed just after taking off in Mexico's northern state of Durango on Tuesday, according to federal officials. The governor of Durango, José R. Aispuro, said on Twitter that there were no deaths. At least 80 of the plane's passengers are being treated at hospitals, though.

The jetliner was originally scheduled to fly from Durango's General Guadalupe Victoria International Airport to Mexico City. According to Israel Solano Mejia, director of the city's civil defense agency, the plane fell nose-first after making it off the ground. Afterward, "the majority of passengers left [the plane] under their own power,"he said. Some even walked to the highway to seek help.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. However, The New York Times reported that OMA, the company that operates the Durango airport and 12 other international airports in Mexico, said that preliminary information indicated that "adverse weather conditions"— like a hail storm — played a role.

"We deeply regret this accident," Aeromexico said in a statement. "The families of all those affected are in our thoughts and in our hearts."

According to the NYT, Aeromexico is "considered one of the world's safer airlines," though there's been fatal accidents in the past.

Everybody Stay F—king Calm: Angela Kinsey and Oscar Nunez Recreated The Hilarious Fire Drill Scene From 'The Office'

The Office may have more than five years ago, but its still alive and well in the hearts of fans — and, apparently, its cast members too. While filming a segment for her husband's baking show, Angela Kinsey was joined by Oscar Nunez to recreate the famous fire drill scene from the "Stress Relief" episode.

Though there's absolutely no excuse for anyone forgetting the iconic scene, it starts with Dwight (Rainn Wilson) staging a fire in the office and blocking all of the exits. Once everyone begins to panic, Kinsey and Nunez's characters — appropriately named Angela and Oscar — attempt to escape.

After Oscar somehow crawls into the ceiling, Angela asks him to pull her and the cat she's been hiding in her desk up. "You're too heavy!" Oscar yells.

"I only weigh 82 pounds! Save Bandit!" Angela replies before throwing the cat into the ceiling — only for him to come crashing back down a few moments later.

Nothing beats the original, but Kinsey and Martinez came close. They have had a stuffed cat for the role of Bandit! The two were prompted to reprise their Office characters after a fan asked them on Baking with Josh & Ange to recreate their favorite scene.

Watch the hilarious video below, and the entire episode with Nunez here. (Luckily, nobody had a heart attack this time!)

Apparently, the two have been IRL friends for years. Kinsey posted a photo with Nunez on her Instagram, explaining that they knew each other way before The Office. "When we found out we both got cast AND got to sit next to each other as [accountants]... it was just amazing!" she wrote. "For 9 years he made me laugh every day."

HC Wake-Up Call: Al Franken Might Run For Public Office Again, Facebook Purges Fake Political Accounts, & 3D Guns Stalled

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Al Franken Hasn't "Ruled Out" Running For Public Office Again

Minnesota Democrat Al Franken resigned from the Senate back in January after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct. Now, he might be considering running for public office again. When asked about the possibility, Franken told Minnesota CBS affiliate WCCO, "I don't know. I haven't ruled it out, and I haven't ruled it in."

The interview was his first since the scandal, which prompted Sen. Tina Smith to take his office; though she's up for a special election this fall. Franken admitted that he misses his former job. "I loved that job, I loved the job as Senator," he said. "It was very meaningful for me and bittersweet, I would like to still be there."

Franken was elected in 2008 after a 20-year stint as a writer and cast member for Saturday Night Live. Beginning in December 2017, eight women came forward with allegations that Franken made unwanted sexual advances or inappropriately touched them. According to CNN, numerous members of his own party urged him to resign. He did so before a Senate ethics committee could complete its investigation. In Franken's final Senate floor speech, he condemned the Senate's hypocrisy considering President Trump has been accused of sexual misconduct. "I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office," Franken said.

Dozens Of Facebook Pages With Potential To Influence Midterms Removed

Facebook issued a statement on Tuesday about the removal of 32 accounts and pages due to their involvement in "coordinated inauthentic behavior." According to The New York Times, the accounts were part of a "political influence campaign that was potentially built to disrupt the midterm elections." Facebook is still investigating what they discovered; however, the company said it wanted to share what they currently know due to the connection between the accounts and protests that were planned in Washington next week.

"At this point in our investigation, we do not have enough technical evidence to state definitively who is behind it," said Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy. "But we can say that these accounts engaged in some similar activity and have connected with known I.R.A accounts."

The I.R.A., or Internet Research Agency, is a Russian-linked group that was accused of interfering in the 2016 presidential election. Facebook didn't say the I.R.A. or Russia are necessarily behind the accounts removed on Tuesday; however, "some of the tools and techniques used by the accounts were similar to those used by the Internet Research Agency," the NYT reported. The pages were also coordinating activity around a number of divisive issues, like a follow-up to last year's "Unite the Right" white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that ended in the death of Heather Heyer

Facebook said it will update Tuesday's announcement when more information is available.

A Court Ruling Stalled The Downloading Of Plans For 3D Guns

On Tuesday, a federal judge sided with the attorney generals in eight states and the District of Columbia who argued that posting plans for 3D guns online could help criminals and terrorists manufacture these weapons. Judge Robert Lasnik's ruling was the result of a lawsuit from the states, which sought to force the Trump administration to prevent a Texas nonprofit company from publishing instructions for making downloadable guns with 3D printers. According to CNN, Tueday's ruling temporarily blocked a settlement that the company, Defense Distributed, and the federal government reached in June, which legalized posting 3D printable gun plans online.

Defense Distributed wasn't legally required to take down the postings after the decision; however, CNN reported that the group is currently blocking downloads from its website. Those in support of the organization and its founder, Cody Wilson, believe this is a First Amendment issue. Despite his ruling, Judge Lasnik seemed to agree, and said the problems in regards to the First Amendment need to be worked out later in court. There's a follow-up hearing scheduled for August 10.

Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he's "looking into" 3D guns, and that after speaking to the NRA, they "don't seem to make much sense." Under federal law, it's already illegal to own or make a gun entirely out of plastic.

A College Student Is Headed To Court After She Went To Her Counselor For Help & He Unexpectedly Kissed Her

Cosumnes River College student Iris Perez met with crisis counselor Hoyt Fong for months before he unexpectedly kissed her during a session in January. Months later, she is now suing him for covering up the incident.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Sacramento Superior Court, and accuses Fong, the Los Rios Community College District, and the Los Rios Federation of Teachers for plotting to hide the incident.  The suit also accuses the former counselor and the college district of "intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, gender violence and assault,” the Sacramento Bee reports. The damages Perez is trying to obtain isn’t specified.

Back in March, the Sacramento Bee interviewed Perez about the incident. She said the January 2nd counseling session had ended with a hug, which became a regularly occurring action between the two. According to the lawsuit, Perez had gone to Fong for crisis counseling following an emotional emergency in the fall of 2017. Every two weeks she had appointments with him until January when Fong kissed her.

“It was a shock. I didn’t know how to react. I was frozen. I tried to brush it off, just to get out as fast as I could. When I was getting into my car it all hit me at once and then that’s when I started crying. It was unbelievable,” Perez said in an interview with the publication.  Fong following the incident with another hug, and scheduling her next appointment.

Perez said she was pressured to withdraw a report she placed with the school and the district, but refused to do so.

The former counselor worked within the district for more than 40 years. As the Sacramento Bee reports, he resigned ten days later, following his refusal to take part in the investigation of the incident.

The investigation did conclude that the accusation of gender discrimination was legitimate. As well, this isn’t the only complaint made against Fong. According to Kresta Daley, who is representing Perez, there are complaints going back 10 years against the former counselor. The suit also claims that the district and its teachers has downplayed and ignored the claims of sexual misconduct in order to reduce liability.

“The biggest issue is that Los Rios has a history of sweeping these allegations under the rug and that they need to make some systematic changes. That is Ms. Perez’s goal - to make changes at the district,” said Kresta Daley to the Sacramento Bee.

We Tried Instagram's Fave Sunglasses & They Made Us Feel So Trendy

If you spend any time on Instagram at all (which, let's be real, we all do 24/7), you've probably heard of Topfoxx sunglasses. Founded in 2015, Topfoxx is truly beloved by influencers. Based in the concrete jungle of New York City, each and every pair is clearly designed with top trends in mind, and they give us major heart eyes.

A post shared by Topfoxx (@topfoxx) on

Not only are they affordable for the average consumer, they are also unique enough to earn you a ton of compliments on the streets. And, honestly, isn't that what we all secretly want when we try out a new trend?

Their creative motto is that their products, specifically their sunglasses, are “not for the average girl." Who wants to be average, anyway?

We decided to live our best lives and give Topfoxx a try, and we felt trendier than ever before.

What's nice about Topfoxx is that they don't feel too extra—with styles ranging from bright and eye-catching to more subtle and edgy, there's a style for everyone no matter what your aesthetic.

Not only do they have classic shapes reinvented with cool lenses and frames (the Arrest Me sunnies, $39, spice up the frame of the classic aviator), they also have new sunglasses trends that you’ve probably been dying to try (like the Matrix sunglasses, $49, that will automatically gives you the cool-girl/i-don’t-care-about-you vibes).

Let’s be real, the sunglasses trend of this season is definitely going to be the cat eye. And Topfoxx has got you covered.

Not only are their Matrix sunglasses catty, but they also have other feline inspired eyewear as well, like their KittyKat ($49) and Indecent Cateye ($39). But don’t fret, if you are not a trend follower, they've also got some simple classics for you as well, like the Aura ($49) and Future Wife ($49) line.

With such a wide variety of shapes and sizes, they flatter any face shape so you can get your best selfie of all time.

Plus, the quality is honestly amazing.

What really matters are the sunglasses themselves, right? While you can definitely find cheaper trendy sunglasses out there, they tend to come with a few problems: They break almost instantly, they start to peel (ew), and they just don't feel sturdy at all. Topfoxx sunglasses are super cute while also being super reliable, and I've never felt like they were going to get crushed or were going to randomly snap in half. Not only do their sunglasses come with a gorgeous pouch, they also comes with their own lens cloth, which is a small but nice extra step that shows they really pay attention to the details.

Topfoxx has the sunglasses to try this season. Question is, are you ready for them?

LeBron James' Public School Is An Amazing Look At What Education Could Be

LeBron James has quite the resume. From four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, two Olympic gold medals in basketball, a budding acting career and countless endorsements, the Ohio native is using his status and wealth to give back. On Monday, James and his family foundation launched the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

The school which hosts 240 third and fourth grade, at-risk students, “will operate with a longer-than-normal school year, with a focus on accelerated learning to bring kids up to speed who otherwise might be lagging,” SB Nation reports.

The school operates as a public, non-charter school but is taking their role of educators one step further and enriching their student’s lives outside the classroom as well.

The school will offer family and job services that include a GED program for parents, a food pantry, housing assistance and a seven-week summer program for students to ensure they do not start the new school year behind. They refer to this as the “wrap-around” approach.  James was also adamant that every student receives a bike, because when he was a child, his bike was the only way for him to get away from dangerous parts of his city.

The school is also staffed with intervention specialists and therapists who are able to, “teach the skills children need to handle trauma they see in their daily lives,” The LA Timesreports. Many of the students come from single-parent income households, single-parent households, and some are even homeless.

The students were randomly selected from a pool of Akron students who’s reading levels were at least a year or two behind, and on Monday when the school opened, James spoke outside the newly renovated brick building to a crowd of students, staff and fans who were all eager to begin this new journey.

Principal Brandi Davis told The LA Times, “We are going to be that groundbreaking school that will be a nationally recognized model for urban and public school excellence. We are letting people know that it is about true wraparound support. True family integration, true compassion.”

Is Eating Bee Pollen Really A Scam? We Wanted To Know What The Buzz Was All About

$
0
0

If there was anything to know about me, it’s that I am completely terrified of bees. If I see one nearby, I will immediately bolt down the street to get away as far as possible. That’s why it is so hard to image people eating bee pollen on top of a smoothie, especially if you are allergic to pollen. I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t seem like a good idea.

So many health blogs, Instagram pages, and celebrities like Victoria Beckham or Gwyneth Paltrow  swear by bee pollens supposed benefits. But what actually is bee pollen? Bee pollen is completely different from regular pollen from a plant. Pollen is collected by the bees from the plantand is mixed with honey and other items from the hive. It’s basically bee food. Bees carry the mixed ingredients on their legs flower to flower. Once enough pollen has been collected, the mixture condenses into a “pollen load” or a small compact particle. Beekeepers will tend to remove the pollen so it can be sold commercially for us to consume.

Many describe it as a small, crunchy, yellow nugget similar to a chia seed; this is why some people like to add a handful to their oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothies. Other people will take it as a supplement or capsule. Bee pollen has been given some pretty super qualities. People who swear by it claim that it boosts your health, reduces risk of cancer, cures colds, helps with weight loss, minimizes aging affects, and detoxifies the body. A small study even claims that a small amount honey mixed with bee pollen can help your pollen allergies.

“There is no doubt that bee pollen contains many biologically active chemicals, and it is not implausible that one or more of these chemicals might have a medically useful property,” said Dr. Steven Novella of Yale University School of Medicine in the study’s article.

A lot of these claims though aren’t entirely supported by science and research. There is evidence for nutritional benefits of the pollen.

The crunchy grains are known for having vitamins and nutrients that contain beneficial antioxidants. As Victoria Beckham’s tweet about Bee Pollen says,  “Bee Pollen contains about 22 amino acids, 18 vitamins, 25 minerals, 59 trace elements, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 14 fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates, and approximately 25% protein. It is extremely rich in carotenes and is high in B complex vitamins and Lecithin.” All of that sounds pretty beneficial to me.

So who is really to say if you should stop eating it or not? If it tastes good to you, sure keep using it. If you have an allergy to bees, I would advise against consuming bee pollen. People with bee allergies can go into anaphylactic shock from ingesting it. Bee pollen isn’t vegan friendly as well. PETA notes on their website that vegans can use alternative, bee-free products instead.

Gina Rodriguez Is Engaged & I'm So Happy For Her

Gina Rodriguez might be dealing with the ups and downs of love on Jane The Virgin, but it looks like it’s all coming up roses IRL: according to InStyle, the actress is reportedly engaged!

Rodriguez has been dating actor Joe LoCicero since 2016, Us Weekly reports, and met when LoCicero had a guest role on Jane The Virgin. And though neither one of them have outright confirmed their engagement, there’s some pretty damning evidence on Instagram right now.

Rodriguez posted a photo on Instagram to celebrate her 34th birthday on July 30. She and LoCicero were on vacation in Mexico, and she is glowing. The caption gives nothing away, but there is a giant rock on her finger that led to wild speculation about it being an engagement ring.

LoCicero also posted a gallery to celebrate Rodriguez’s 34th, and two of the photos show off the ring as well.

Happy Birthday my Love!

A post shared by Joe LoCicero (@joe_locicero) on

Though we’ll have to wait for Rodriguez and LoCicero to officially comment, I’m ready to start ringing the wedding bells now. 2018 truly seems to be the year of celebrity romance—first we had Pete and Ariana, then Hailey and Justin and now Gina and Joe. I’m not sure what’s in the water these people are drinking or how I can somehow hop on this train, but congrats to the happy couple!

Literally Everything You Need To Know About Beyonce's Historic 'Vogue' Takeover

$

The Vogue September issue is known to be one of the most important fashion publications of the year, and this year’s is no exception: Beyonce is gracing the cover again (she was also the cover subject back in September 2015), but she’s not going with the status quo.

Beyonce’s return to Vogue is making waves for a couple of different reasons—here’s what you need to know.

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

1. She hired the first black photographer in Vogue’s cover history

Is it ridiculous that Vogue has been around for 126 years and has never had a black photographer shoot the cover? Yes, absolutely. Bey must’ve recognized that too, because she tapped 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell, an Atlanta-based photographer, to take on the huge task of shooting her cover image, CNN reports.

Mitchell is still quite young, but that doesn’t mean he’s not accomplished: according to The Cut, he has worked with brands like Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, and also shot the photos and videos for Teen Vogue’s March For Our Lives feature. He’s clearly got the talent and although The Huffington Post speculates that he would not have been Vogue EIC Anna Wintour’s top pick, I’m so excited to see how he captures Beyonce for this cover.

2. She has the most control ever given to a Vogue cover subject

The Cut also reports that Beyonce and Vogue signed a contract to negotiate the terms of the September issue, and Bey now has “unprecedented control” over things. The Huffington Post explains that she now gets to choose the photos of her on the cover and inside the magazine, as well as write the captions. Considering Vogue is such a tightly run ship and Wintour has always chosen the photos and outfits of her models, this is huge. Even when Bey last appeared on the September issue cover in 2015, the photographer (Mario Testino) was chosen for her and she did not have as much control.

But if anyone could get people to bend to her will on this scale, it’s definitely Beyonce.

3. She won’t be doing an interview

Beyonce is notorious for having a “no-interview policy” that she very rarely breaks, and it looks like even the September issue is not enough to make her change her mind. She didn’t sit down for an interview in 2015 either, according to The Huffington Post, even though it’s generally expected of a cover subject. It looks like Beyonce is keeping a tight grip on her narrative so that things won’t get twisted—it’s a skill that she has mastered throughout her career, and one that, judging by her eternal popularity, seems to still be working.

4. The cover has led to rumors of Anna Wintour’s departure from Vogue

Wintour isn’t leaving Vogue, Reuters reports, despite recent swirling rumors that she would be stepping down from the position she’s held at the magazine since 1988. However, E! News notes that Wintour generally doesn’t let anyone else have much of a say when it comes to the beloved magazine, so the change of heart feels like a goodbye to some.

Whether or not Wintour decides to hang up her hat, it’s clear that Beyonce is intent on shaking things up at Vogue. I, for one, can’t wait to see how this September issue comes out.

A Pregnant Woman Was Accidentally Served Cleaning Solution Instead Of Coffee & Luckily Everyone’s Okay

A Canadian woman got a mouthful of cleaning supplies when she went to sip her McDonald’s latte on Sunday morning.

Sarah Douglas, a mother of two who is pregnant with her third child, was taking her son to a baseball tournament when she decided to make a quick caffeine stop at the golden arches.

She ordered a latte and after one sip, knew something was wrong. The Star reports, “when she returned to the restaurant to complain a staff member told her that two cleaning lines were hooked up to the latte machine.”

Douglas requested she see the bottle of cleaning supplies she ingested and it included warnings reading, “causes serious eye irritation,” and “may cause an allergic skin reaction.”

She immediately contacted local health services where she was directed to poison control.

Dan Brown, owner of the McDonald’s restaurant released a public apology and told Fox News, "What happened is that the machine was being cleaned as it is every morning. Unfortunately, the milk supply line was connected to the cleaning solution while this guest's drink was made,” he explained. He said a health inspector later examined the restaurant too.

Douglas wanted to make sure her story got out there and that this type of incident would encourage other restaurants to uphold better safety standards.

She said, "As a mother, I want to make sure I have [a] voice and that I'm being heard in terms of the safety of consumers.”

Why It's Okay To Have a Type

Just like you probably bee-line towards a certain jean style that you already know will fit perfectly, you def have certain preferences when it comes to dating. Whether you’re into that whole man-bun/yogi/kombucha situation, more of a finance bro type of girl, or like a little more excitement, having a type is unavoidable. Like, it’s not that you wouldn’t try on a pair of culottes, but you could never see yourself actually buying them. Skinny jeans and cropped flares are just so cute and practical. Why overcomplicate things?  But sometimes it can seem like your entire squad is on your case about all your love interests being super similar. Getting judged for having a “type” is right up there with being asked why you don’t have a SO for collegiettes––why can’t people mind their own business and stop judging? Like, you’re probably not deeply offended about them roasting you at brunch about how well your exes would get along, but sometimes it might feel like you need a reminder that it’s okay to date similar people. So, here’s why it’s totally okay to have a “type.”

It’s not superficial.

The number one criticism you probably face about having a “type” is that it’s superficial. Spoiler alert: That is such fake news! Allie, a Columbia University sophomore, says, “For me, having a type doesn’t relate to physical appearance. My type is someone ambitious, interesting, and spontaneous––whether he has blue eyes or brown doesn’t matter to me.” Having a “type” truly isn’t skin deep. It’s not about intentionally only dating people who wear glasses or bench press twice your body weight. Contrary to popular belief, most girls’ “types” really do come down to what’s on the inside.
“I could never date someone without the same goals,” says Emily, a freshman at Edinburgh University, “My type mostly comes down to personality.”  So, if all your exes look a little similar? It’s probably because of the personality traits they share influencing their looks: from the way they dress to their level of ambition. Are they disciplined enough to make it to the gym every day? Do they have a great creative eye that lends itself to flawless #OOTD’s? It might be impossible to ignore the physical similarities that make your “type” easy to identify, but as long as you’re genuinely attracted to the personality beneath them, you can brush off those “superficial” accusations.

It makes dating so much easier.

On the flip side, having a “type” does make it way easier to make quick, split-second judgments about whether or not you’d get along with someone in a relationship. Instead of wasting your time on tons of random dates that go nowhere, you can usually tell if you’re into someone within a few minutes of meeting them. If you’re more of a dating app kind of girl? Your friends are probably shook at how quickly you can swipe left––and right. Trying to meet someone on a night out with your squad? Find out what sort of crowd can be found at the bar or club you’re headed to, and you’re way more likely to meet someone with major relationship potential if you choose wisely.

It’s actually unavoidable.

Face it, you probably didn’t really figure out your “type” until you actually started dating people, and there’s a reason for that. No matter who your middle school crush was, or if you went through a phase in high school where you thought you would only date sensitive artists, your “type” might be completely different than what your thirteen-year-old self daydreamed about. Daniela, a freshman at Georgetown University, thinks it really is an unconscious process. “For me, having a type isn’t something I look for but it’s something that all the boys I like have in common,” she said. Having a “type” can’t be forced, and as much as you might think you’re into a certain kind of person, take a look at your dating roster. You might surprise yourself.

It means you have strong values.

Some people may say that having a “type” makes you close-minded, but it actually says something really different about your personality: that you have strong values. You have defined opinions about what’s right and wrong, and you’re not going to let anyone sway you anytime soon. Okay, some people may say that being stubborn isn’t a fantastic trait, but think of it as a strength. Take a second look at your “type,” and what attracts you to them, and then think about what you feel strongly about. There’s probably plenty of overlap. Not sure about this one? Ask someone you’re into, even just a friend with benefits about what they care about. (Other than you, obviously.) You might learn something about yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with knowing what you want.

Tbh, having a “type” comes down to being a strong, independent collegiette who just knows what she wants! And who has ever said being decisive is a bad thing? Autumn, a recent graduate of Emmanuel College, is so confident about her “type” that her squad could spot a guy for her from a mile away. “My friends can easily recognize when I’d be into a person, based on looks usually. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a type, especially when it comes to physical attraction. You know what you like, so why not seek that out?” Kait, a Butler University junior, agrees. “You like what you like,” she says.  It’s true––only you really know what you want, and you shouldn’t let anyone guilt you into “branching out” by going out with someone you’re not comfortable with. If you have zero interest in a certain type of guy, there’s probably a good reason for that, and it’s def way deeper than, like, hair color.

Alex Jones' Conspiracies Have Subjected Sandy Hook Parents To Years Of Harassment — & Now He Wants Them To Pay His Legal Fees

InfoWars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones asked a Texas court on Wednesday to dismiss a defamation case against him and his website, which was filed by the parents of a child killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. He also wants the parents, Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, to pay him more than $100,000 for his legal costs.

Since the mass shooting in Connecticut — in which Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults — Jones has used InfoWars to call the whole thing an elaborate hoax and the families of the victims crisis actors. He's also suggested that "a political cover-up took place by left-wing forces seeking to take advantage of the shooting to promote gun control,"Reuters reported.

Jones specifically accused De La Rosa of participating in a fake CNN interview. She told The New York Times that in the five years since her son, Noah Pozner, was killed in the school shooting, her family has faced death threats and online harassment. They've ever been forced to relocate seven times.

"I would love to go see my son’s grave and I don’t get to do that, but we made the right decision," De La Rosa said, adding that any time they move, people on the internet publish their address "with the speed of light."

"They have their own community, and they have the ear of some very powerful people," she said.

In 2015, Jones hosted a call with another conspiracy theorist, who, at one point, threatened Pozner. "Mr. Jones then showed his audience my personal information and maps to addresses associated with my family," Pozner said in an affidavit. A year later, an "InfoWars devotee" was arrested for repeatedly threatening Posner. A condition of her parole was that she stop watching InfoWars.

According to the NYT, Jones is trying to dismiss Pozner's and De La Rosa's lawsuit under the Texas Citizens Participation Act, which "protects citizens’ right to free speech against plaintiffs who aim to silence them through costly litigation."

He and his lawyers claim the suit is an effort "to silence those who openly oppose their very public ‘herculean’ efforts to ban the sale of certain weapons, ammunition and accessories, to pass new laws relating to gun registration and to limit free speech," according to court filings.

De La Rosa and Pozner's defamation lawsuit is just one of three that have been filed against Jones by other families of Sandy Hook victims.

One suit alleges that Jones and his colleagues "persistently perpetuated a monstrous, unspeakable lie: that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged, and that the families who lost loved ones that day are actors who faked their relatives’ deaths."

Just last week, Facebook suspended Jones' personal page for 30 days, citing "bullying" and "hate speech." However, the InfoWars Facebook page is still live.

Tiffany Haddish Opened Up About Being Raped At 17 By A Police Cadet

Trigger Warning: This article contains mentions of rape.

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish revealed in a recent interview with Glamour that when she was 17 years old, she was raped by a police cadet.

"That whole experience put me in such a messed-up place for a long time, and I ended up going to counseling," Haddish told Glamour for the magazine's August cover story.

Haddish said she reported the rape, though she didn't mention if there were any legal repercussions. To this day, she's not sure what justice would look like for her.

"Me just yelling out people’s names with no thought behind it is pointless. I need a plan," she said. "I could be a voice, but what’s a voice going to do—just keep talking? Or is there action behind it?"

According to HuffPost, the Glamour interview isn't the first time Haddish has talked about the rape. She made the reveal in her 2017 memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, and expanded on the incident during an interview on "The Champs" podcast.

Haddish said she met the man at a basketball game, and he later offered to drive her home after her high school homecoming dance. Once the two were in his car, he actually drove them to his place.

"So we get there and we get to his place and I see, like, handcuffs and a police uniform and I’m like, ’What’s that? Is that like a Halloween costume or something?" Haddish said on the podcast. "And he’s like, ‘No, I’m a cadet, I’m training to be in the police force."

Haddish continued, "Next thing I know, I’ve got one arm up in the handcuff, and he’s got me pinned down."

She said she fought back, but he overpowered her.

"He raped me. He was stronger than me. It was the worst feeling in the world," Haddish said.

She told Glamour that the experience has forced her to always be on the defense.

"I notice that men are afraid of women that are aggressive. So to protect myself I become semi-aggressive," Haddish said. "You hear about, ‘Tiffany always hitting on somebody,’ but that’s to keep them from hitting on me."

5 Moments From 'The Bachelorette: Men Tell All' Special We Still Can't Get Over

Just when you thought we were FINALLY going to see the finale, ABC decides to give us the over-hyped Men Tell All special that no one asks for––aka the biggest example of procrastination on national television. Maybe I’d be a little less salty if Connor had gotten more screen time.

Anyway, here are the five most mind-blowing moments from The Bachelorette: Men Tell All special, and by mind-blowing I mean the parts that didn’t make you feel like leaving the room for a snack or bathroom break or whatever. Not gonna lie I straight up ordered Uber Eats halfway through everyone going off on Jordan and was 100% confident I would not miss a thing. Guess what? When I came back five minutes later, they were still complaining about that whole wearing underwear to the cocktail party stunt he pulled, like, 20 years ago. And, surprise, he was wearing it tonight. Yup, another visual no one asked for. Thanks ABC!

1. Colton cried about being a virgin, sort of

Yeah, so a couple of media outlets are seriously playing this as a big bullying story and saying that the other guys were viciously bullying Colton about being a virgin. Like, I guess? But I mean come on. Are we supposed to feel bad for him or something? It’s not like this isn’t 100% a choice Colton made for himself. Basically, the guys were joking around about it and Colton broke down crying, because he’s a sensitive little cherub and its just very on brand for him. No one ever said “Men Tell All” was supposed to be a safe space. I mean, they did let Jordan and his golden underwear in, so the bar is low.

Colton: I’m a virgin
Everyone: Yeah we know you said it like 5,000 times
Colton: OMG. Stop bullying me! I’m gonna tell!

2. Becca sided with Tia

Yup––that Tia. We’re still on the Colton storyline. Face it, the episode was 45% Jordan’s underwear, 45% Colton’s virginity, and 10% obviously staged apologies for dumb stuff everyone already forgot about. When Chris Harrison asked Becca about Tia, she was just like, oh yeah, we talk all the time and speculate over how much of a virgin Colton actually is.

Chris: What do you think about Tia, the girl who tried to ruin your life?
Becca: Well, we promote detox tea together, so we’re basically soulmates.

3. Jean Blanc brought a gift, again

Remember Jean Blanc? He’s the colognoisseur that told Becca he loved her, gave her a bottle of custom perfume, then immediately took back what he said and asked for the gift back. Yikes. Needless to say, he got sent home immediately. But he was back in full force! And it seems he didn't learn from his past mistakes because he showed up with a gift for Becca after awkwardly forcing himself onto the couch with her.

Jean Blanc: I brought you a gift
Becca: Not again, please make it stop
Jean Blanc: It’s perfume
Becca: NO WAY
Jean Blanc: It smells like rejection and my inability to take a hint

4. Jason wants to stay friends

Twitter goes almost as crazy over Jason as they do over grocery store Joe, and that’s saying something. Jason legit just said that he doesn’t hate Becca and would be down to stay in touch––and everyone FREAKED. Girls, what sort of guys have you been dealing with? He’s just, like, being a decent human being. I half expected #GiveJasonTheNobelPeacePrize to start trending on Twitter.

Jason: *breathes*
Twitter: OMG THE PERFECT MAN

Can we all just stop pretending that this isn’t all part of his campaign to be the next Bachelor?

5. The fact that nobody mentioned Lincoln

Lincoln, aka this season’s resident registered sex offender, was completely absent from the special––no one even mentioned him. Ofc, he obviously doesn’t deserve any more screen time or attention, but the fact that the franchise is just sort of trying to avoid the topic instead of raising awareness doesn't exactly reflect well on them. Low-key, I think Connor was annoyed he couldn’t remind everyone how he threw that picture of Lincoln and Becca into the pool and show off how he was right about him all along. Tbh I’d rather watch that clip on loop for, like, a week, than ever have to look at Jordan in that gold underwear ever again.

Tune in next week to find out if Becca picks Garrett or Blake. Girl’s having a hard time choosing––somebody should tell her to call Reality Steve. I hear he has ALL the answers.
