Sen. Susan Collins Won't Support A Supreme Court Nominee Who Would Overturn Roe v. Wade

Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who would be a crucial vote to President Donald Trump’s nominee to U.S. Supreme Court, has made it clear that a nominee who supports overturning Roe v. Wade “not be acceptable.”

During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” the senator told ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz that the most important trait for a Supreme Court nominee is to “respect precedent.”

“I would not support a nominee who demonstrated hostility to Roe v Wade,” Collins told CNN’s “State of the Union” program.

Collins said that she has met with Trump to discuss the need to fill the Justice Kennedy’s seat, who announced that he will be retiring from the highest court in the land at the end of July, Reuters reports.

According to ABC News, Collins told the president there were several qualities that we important for a new justice, including “judicial temperament, intellect, fidelity to the rule of law,” but “most important of all, respect for precedent.”

The Maine senator, who is a supporter of abortion rights, said that Roe v. Wade has been established as a constitutional right and that a “candidate who would overturn Roe would not be acceptable.”

On “This Week,” Collins also noted she told the president there were potential nominees on his list that she could not support, “because I believe that they have demonstrated a disrespect for the vital principle of stare decisis,” which is Latin for judicial precedent, and encouraged Trump to expand the number of nominees he is considering.

Collins added that “it would be inappropriate” to ask a nominee how they would vote on a future case.

“A discussion of precedent, however, is very important,” Collins said. “What I want to see is a nominee who, regardless of his or her personal views on the very difficult and contentious life issue, is going to respect precedent, regardless.”

According to Reuters, Trump said on Friday that he will be announcing his Supreme Court nominee on July 9, and has narrowed down his list of potential nominees to five individuals, including two women.

Ariana Grande Got a Special Tattoo in Honor of Pete Davidson's Dad

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s whirlwind romance just keeps getting sweeter. Even though Grande has never met Davidson’s dad, a firefighter who died during 9/11, she is keeping the memory of her fiancé’s father alive.

Fans recently spotted Grande sporting a new tattoo on her ankle while she and her beau were out on the town in Manhattan.

According to PEOPLE, Grande’s new tattoo read “8418,” the badge number of the Saturday Night Live actor’s father, firefighter Scott Davidson.

Davidson has the badge number tattooed on his forearm.

Here is the picture where fans spotted the new tattoo, which is on her left ankle.

And here is a closer look.

This isn’t the first time that the happy couple has shown off special tattoos dedicated to each other. According to Hello Giggles, Davidson debuted a tattoo of Grande’s initials on his thumb, and also has a tattoo of a bunny mask, similar to Grande’s cover art for her last album Dangerous Woman.

We had a good night.

But relationship tattoos can be risky. Davidson previously had a tattoo of his ex-girlfriend, Cazzie David, Hello Giggles reports.

According to PEOPLE, Davidson enlisted Jon Messa, a tattoo artist and co-owner of Chinatown’s No Idols Tattoo Shop, to help cover up the tattoo of his ex- girlfriend.

“I did a huge coverup [adding a forest of trees],” Mesa told New York Post's Page Six, adding, “After we were done, I told Pete, ‘Hey, dude, let’s just stop with the girlfriend tats until after [Grande’s] your wife.’ ”

“Relationships come and go, and Pete is a really young man. I think that went in one ear and out the other,” Mesa added.

Either way, though, this special tattoo is definitely a sweet gesture on Grande’s part.

I wonder what special tattoos the adorable couple will get next.

5 Deal-Breaker Personality Traits & 4 To Give A Second Chance

Dating is exhausting, pretty much regardless of whether you find romantic success or not. With everything else going on in our lives, devoting time to meeting and pursuing new people, be they for long-term commitment or fling reasons, can get tough.

Added to that is the fact that people aren’t usually giving you the truest version of themselves when you’re in the early stages of dating (we all do it—it’s okay!). It can be hard to detect whether someone is worth your time or not, so we polled some expert collegiettes for their takes on which traits are red flags in a romantic partner and which you can give another chance.

Red flags

1. They mansplain to you

People can be hard to read in dating situations, but there are some clear tells that someone is way more into themselves than they are into you—don’t waste your time here! There are several indicators that a person doesn’t have a genuine interest in getting to know you.

“One I've experienced is them trying their hardest to relate to your interests/hobbies,” says Veronika Potylitsina, a senior at the University of Toronto. “For example, I'm actually, really interested in architecture and they try to make things up about what they know about the thing that are obviously wrong.” Classic case of a man thinking he knows more about your topics of interest than you do yourself.

Mansplaining is about the least sexy/appealing/acceptable thing that happens in the realm of dating, so don’t let anyone mess around with you like that. You have every right to drop them (and give them a lecture on the real facts as well as why they don’t need to overcompensate and patronize you by trying to show you up on your own knowledge).

2. They’re overly attached or jealous

Clinginess, especially in the early stages of dating, is super disconcerting. You don’t want them to be dependent on you from the get go!

“If they're moving too quickly, that's another red flag—overattachment is often a little troublesome if you're just getting to know them,” says Rachna Shah, a freshman at Dartmouth College. They don’t know you like that.

Jealous behavior takes this unhealthy attachment a step further. “If a no-strings-attached type relationship has been established yet he gets obviously jealous when you talk about other people to him (such as abrupt end of conversation, trying to immediately hang out with you, trying to ‘one-up’ the person, etc), that's also a red flag,” Veronika says.

“Being possessive is not part of the deal and should be addressed immediately,” she adds. No matter the stage of the fling or relationship, jealousy is toxic and can lead to unsafe situations.

3. Flakiness

Flakiness, even when it comes to a fling, is more than just annoying—it’s deliberate disrespect of you and your time.

“One of the biggest red flags is when the person acts in a manner best described as flaky,” Rachna says. “They talk to you when they want to, but as soon as one of their friends shows up, they ditch you.” If it’s a repeated pattern, you’re better off without them. Like we said earlier, you’re busy!

4. It's all about them

Regardless of the seriousness of the relationship, both parties should be committed to reciprocity at the very least. “I dated a guy who always managed to turn the conversation around to interest him or make it about him, says Tiara Curow, a senior at Central Washington University. “I could bring up a topic and he would give me his side but wouldn’t ask me about mine, or if I brought up something that he wasn’t interested he would blatantly ignore it and start talking about himself or whatever he was doing.”

If they can't handle a two-way conversation, it's not likely to make for a good relationship. “The biggest red flag is when a guy won’t stop talking about himself or always keeps things superficial,” Tiara says. “I was dating a guy for two months and we had no problems discussing what my major is or my favorite food but when it came to my family or anything slightly personal he was not interested.”

Getting to know people is hard work, and if you’re invested, they should be too. “I think this shows that the person really isn’t interested in getting to know you or doesn’t see the relationship going anywhere,” Tiara says. Next!

5. They don’t take anything seriously

Sure, a fling is a fling, but if your relationship is moving to the next level and they are noncommittal or don't take you or your relationship seriously, that's probably not a good sign. “I once went out with a guy who was a fun, go with the flow type of person,”  says Morgan Mullings, a sophomore at St. John’s University. “While there's nothing wrong with this, when things got serious he avoided any serious topics or conversation!”

If you're not comfortable with their aversion towards real talk, steer clear. “There's a time and place for EVERYTHING, and if he can't handle talking about something a little tough, that's a huge red flag,” Morgan says. There's a difference between wanting to have fun and being a 12-year-old inside the body of a 20-something!

Second chance traits

1. Lifestyle differences or personal preferences

Just because you don’t have everything in common and don’t love all the same things doesn’t mean you won’t get along or last. These differences could potentially make your relationship even stronger in the long run! You’ll fill in one another’s gaps.

For example, you might be a vegetarian and they might be a hard core meat eater. It doesn’t mean it isn’t meant to be, it just means that you have an opportunity to have some interesting conversations with one another about these sorts of things! If the chemistry and interest is there, you can absolutely make it work.

2. Things about them others don’t like

Pretty much any outside advice about a romance should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, the person giving the advice is probably not one of the people involved in the romance itself, so they can only understand what’s going on to a certain degree!

It’s one thing if other people in your life have genuine concerns about your health or safety when you’re seeing a person, but just because your SO’s personality doesn’t match with your friends’ or family’s doesn’t mean they’re wrong for you. “I would recommend enduring through ... family and friends [who] don't initially approve of your SO (and vice versa!),” says Rachna. They’re your SO, not your family’s or friends’!

3. They’re close with their family

It can be unattractive if someone talks about their family a lot, much less spends a great deal of time with or talking to their family members. Aren’t we supposed to be flourishing in our independence? You might be that way, but just remember that that may not be the case for everyone.

“I once went out with a guy who called his mom and talked about her literally all the time,” Morgan says. “This was off putting at first because I was like, ‘Are you dating me or your mom?’” A classic conundrum.

Closeness with a parent or other family member that you aren’t used to shouldn’t send you running for the hills, though. “But later on it wasn't as frequent and I realized they just have a very good relationship,” Morgan says. “And that actually makes him a better person to date.” Hopefully that bond means they’re more grounded and have good priorities. And if they’re sharing details about their other close relationships with you, that’s gotta be a good sign!

4. They overshare

This is the contrast to guys who are super into themselves. Oversharing might be too much or even seem a little creepy, but (hopefully) it's just an indicator that they're comfortable with you!

“Most of the time, the guy is just really excited to tell you about his life and share the things that he enjoys and can get a little carried away,” says Charlee Hrubesky, a sophomore at Indiana University. “I like guys who share their lives with me, even if they like to share a lot at one time.” You are supposed to be getting to know each other, after all.

A healthy amount of pickiness is good—you shouldn’t have to settle—but you could also miss out on someone really great if you discount them based on something that might not actually be too big of a deal.

Hopefully this little guide will help you weed through the dating duds and know who you should be holding out on. Share your red flag and go-ahead traits on Facebook and Twitter!

Thanks to social media, everyday people can suddenly be thrust into the limelight faster than ever before for all sorts of reasons. Activists, musical cover artists, makeup gurus and models all join the ranks of Hollywood’s acting elite and record label royalty. Aside from their flourishing careers and artistic achievements (which of course we should celebrate), some young female celebrities are quietly creating unique and distinct styles that deserve to be noted. Check out some celebrities you should look to for inspiration the next time you find yourself hopelessly staring at your closet.

1. Rowan Blanchard

Known for her role on Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World (as Cory and Topanga’s daughter!), this 15-year-old actress-turned-advocate has given speeches at the United Nations and the Women’s March, and has been a vocal educator on intersectionality in feminism.

All the while, she's come into her own as a style icon as well. A unique mix of vintage and futuristic, her red carpet looks are especially fashion forward. Draw inspiration from her if you can’t figure out the balance between quirky and cute.

2. Shay Mitchell

Looking back at pics from Morocco and I'm falling in love all over again with Fez and specifically @palaisamani

A post shared by Shay Mitchell (@shaymitchell) on

While we know and love Shay for her work on Pretty Little Liars, she’s even cooler off camera. From her fitness routine to her optimistic attitude to her travel adventures, she is definitely all-around goals. On top of all of that, Shay also has killer fashion sense.

“She’s great for inspiration especially for the summer season and festival style,” says Madison Valine, a rising sophomore at Baylor University. “Throughout her travels she has collected different worldwide styles.”

To add an exotic flair to your everyday style, look to Shay’s bold color choices. She also knows how to slay an indie romper look or throw together a jean shorts outfit that is simple yet fashion-forward.

3. Yara Shahidi

For clean-cut style with a bold detail, accessory or color thrown in every now and then, look to actress and activist Yara Shahidi. She knows how to rock the basics, like a white tee, but can also make graphic tees and sequins work together for a standout look.

“I like Yara Shahidi because she does a lot with interesting color and shape combinations and has a really fun sense of style,” says Addie Donaher, a rising sophomore at Notre Dame. “Also, she is a Harvard-bound activist.”

Not to mention, her collar game is on point.

4. Emma Stone

One of Hollywood’s resident funny girls, Emma Stone can not only deliver an Oscar-worthy performance, but also pull off playful fashion choices. Much like her personality, her clothes are never boring.

“I also love Emma Stone's style,” says Meg Thompson, a rising sophomore at the University of Kansas. “She goes for sweet and elegant, yet fashion-forward and unique.”

Emma isn’t afraid to experiment with different silhouettes and lengths, and is a great inspiration source for someone looking to mix something sweetly feminine with bold menswear lines, or keep things classic and fashionable with fun details like color or sparkle.

5. Jennifer Lawrence

Another Oscar-winning girl-next-door, J-Law uses her fashion choices to channel her inner ultra laid back gal. She keeps things cool and modern while looking like a vintage Hollywood starlet on the red carpet, but her street style of simple white tops and denim screams “cool girl who lives down the hall that you want to befriend.”

“I love Jennifer Lawrence’s casual style,” says Hayley Burgess. “My style is a mix of Madewell and Urban Outfitters without being obnoxiously hipster, so I like how Jennifer balances trends with classic pieces.”

She can rock a bold blazer or a pin-up style two-piece set, so check out Jennifer Lawrence for fresh ways to wear pieces you already own.

6. Chrissy Teigen

Her Twitter clapback game is always on point, not to mention her wildly successful cookbook and the fact that she and John Legend have the relationship most of us can only dream of. But to top it off, her red carpet looks and everyday outfits are always fashion forward but wearable.

“Chrissy Teigen's confident personality mixed with her casual fashion sense makes me look to her as a fashion inspiration as well as a personal inspiration,” says Kat Mediavilla, a rising sophomore at Kansas State University.

In particular, look to Chrissy’s fashion choices for menswear-inspired looks. She can make a blazer or collared button-down look sexy yet sophisticated, and her shoe game is flawless (seriously, is she always in heels?).

7. Ashley Nell Tipton

Although she won Project Runway season 14, Ashley Nell Tipton’s personal style is vastly underrated. The fashion designer is transforming the clothing game for plus-sized women all while embracing her own sense of self. Along with her fun, flirty and affordable pieces, we can also try to rock her confidence.

“She knows how to make clothes that complement the body of a person no matter their body type,” says Catherine Markley, a rising sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. “She specializes in creating clothes for plus size women and her work is inspiring."

Ashley takes closet staples like striped tees and sundresses and adds her own style by layering or accessorizing. She especially knows how to rock a traditional leather jacket in an unconventional way or add fun florals to any outfit.

8. Skai Jackson

Although she’s only 15 years old, this Disney Channel star is already supported by iconic brands like Marc Jacobs, Alice and Olivia and stylist Apuje Kalu. She uses fashion as an art form to express herself and make bold choices.

Skai know how to work with denim, and can even rock a full denim-on-denim outfit. If you’re stuck on how to wear that jean jacket this summer, look no further than her photoshoot with 360 Magazine. Check out her red carpet style for gorgeous dresses with intricate details, but if you’re more into a jeans and hoodie look, somehow she can pull off a vintage pullover and make it look flawless.

She may be young and fresh on the fashion scene, but she’s not afraid to take risks.

9. Camila Mendes

As Riverdale’s Veronica Lodge, her character pulls off Holly Golightly inspired/New York classic fashion choices every episode. But she’s also come into her own with her own sense of style outside of the CW show.

Her personal style, like her Riverdale alter ego’s, is classic, clean and simple. For black and white color schemes, bold stripes and clean silhouettes, look no further.

HC Wake-Up Call: Canada Hits U.S. With New Tariffs, Comedian Prank Called Trump & San Francisco Is 1st Major City With $15 Minimum Wage

Good morning, Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Canada Hits $13 Billion Worth of U.S. Goods With New Tariffs

Canada has retaliated against the United States’ steel and aluminum tariffs by imposing tariffs of its own on U.S. goods.

The Canadian government confirmed on Sunday that they were imposing tariffs on U.S. goods worth nearly $13 million.

According to CNN Money, our northern neighbors imposed a 25 percent tariff on 40 U.S. steel products, and a 10 percent tariff on a range of other U.S. goods, including maple syrup, coffee beans and toffee.

Canada’s tariffs are designed to be proportional to the U.S. steel tariffs imposed on June 1.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the U.S. needed to be held accountable for its actions.

“I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing but it is something that we absolutely will do,” Trudeau said in June. “[As] Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable but we also will not be pushed around.”

The U.S. has already imposed steel and aluminum tariffs on Mexico, China, Turkey, India and the European Union, provoking them to either retaliate with tariffs of their own or file legal challenges with the World Trade Organization, CNN Money reports.

Canada and Mexico, however, have the additional challenge of responding to these tariffs while renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, with the U.S.

Comedian “Stuttering John” Prank Called Trump

President Donald Trump reportedly carried on a lengthy conversation via telephone on Air Force One with a comedian who pretended to be Sen. Bob Menendez.

According to The Huffington Post, Comedian John Melendez, known as “Stuttering John,” posed as the senator, who is a frequent Trump critic, in a podcast he posted online. Melendez said he got the president to talk about his Supreme Court pick and his zero tolerance immigration policy.

“Believe me, if it was that easy to dupe him, there’s every chance in the world [Russian President Vladimir] Putin duped him,” Melendez told HuffPost.

Melendez said he found a phone number online for the White House and called it. Melendez introduces himself as Menendez’s assistant “Sean Moore,” and asks to speak with the president. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and adviser, reportedly called Melendez back 45 minutes later, and he was talking to the president 20 minutes after that, HuffPost reports.

On the podcast, a voice that sounds like Trump’s can be heard congratulating Menendez for his recent primary win on Tuesday. “Hi Bob. Congratulations on everything. We’re proud of you! Great job,” the voice says. “You went through a tough, tough situation, and I don’t think a very fair situation. Congratulations,” the speaker adds, referencing to the dismissed federal corruption charges earlier this year.

Melendez and Trump also discussed the president’s immigration policies after Melendez said his “constituents” were giving him grief on the matter.

Melendez also suggested to the president that he should select a moderate to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. “I have a big list of people, Bob,” the voice says, “and we’ll be looking at it the next couple of weeks. We have some great choices.”

While the White House did not respond to HuffPost’s request for comment, a White House source did say the administration “[had] been scrambling” to figure out how something like this could have happened. It does pose a big security issue.

The White House, according to HuffPost, reached out to Menendez’s office to ask about the call.

The senator did release a statement saying he would like a real conversation with Trump.

“As someone who has spent my entire career trying to convince Republicans to join me in reforming our nation’s broken immigration system, I welcome any opportunity to have a real conversation with the president on how to uphold the American values that guided our family-based immigration policy for the past century,” Menendez said. “Tearing children apart from their mothers is not part of our proud history. Thus far, this White House has only sabotaged every good-faith effort to find bipartisan common ground on immigration.”

San Francisco is 1st Major City With $15 Minimum Wage

San Francisco will become the first major U.S. city to have a $15 minimum wage on Sunday under a ballot measure approved by voters in 2014, ABC News reports.

City Administrator Naomi Kelly said the city will be the first to hit this major milestone for workers, but it won’t be the only one. Two years ago California lawmakers approved an increase in the state’s minimum wage from $10 to $15 an hour by 2022.

In Emeryville, California, a smaller San Francisco Bay area city, will also increase its minimum wage to $15 on Sunday for smaller employers. Larger employers have had to pay their employees $15 an hour since last July, ABC News reports.

Either way, this is a major achievement for those that have been pushing for a $15 minimum wage for workers to ensure they have a living wage.

What to look out for...

How She Got There: Jenn Gambatese, Actress

Name: Jenn Gambatese
Job Title and Description: Actress
College Name/Major: New York University/Drama and Sociology
Website: jenngambatese.com
Twitter Handle:@jenngambatese
Instagram Handle: @jenngambatese

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

JG: My current job entails auditioning, rehearsing, collaborating, filming, recording and performing. Unless I'm in a long-running theater job, there is seldom a typical day.

What is the best part of your job?

JG: The best part of my job is affecting people with my work, whether it be making them laugh or cry or think about something in a new way.

What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?

JG: Don't look sideways. Stay in your own lane and run your own race.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

JG: I don't think I enjoyed my early successes enough. I was so worried about proving myself and trying to be perfect that I missed out on a lot of the fun. Old habits die hard and it's still something I have to remind myself... to be present and soak in all the good stuff!

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

JG: One of my first jobs after college was playing in the European tour of the musical Fame. We played The Folies Bergere in Paris for two months. It was surreal because it hadn't been that long since I had gone there to see the Folies with my high school French Club, and here I was, not even five years later, one of the leads in a show there!

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

JG: If I'm bringing new people on to my team, I'm looking for them to have strengths in the parts of show business that are not in my wheelhouse, freeing me up to focus on my craft. I also look for a personal connection and a sense that I'm heard and valued.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

JG: I like to encourage young, aspiring actors to be voracious learners... not just of their craft, but of all sorts of topics! Everything we study informs what we bring to the table, and that thirst for learning is exciting for others to be around.

What's the one thing that's stood out to you the most in a resume?

JG: Well, an actor's resume is different from a "civilians." There's this part you can include called "Special Skills," like "speaks Mandarin fluently," etc. A friend of mine has this crazy skill where he can "sing any song one syllable off". It's hard to explain, but he starts each song with the word "well" to push the syllables back by one. So, imagine if he was singing "Happy Birthday," you know the part where it jumps up to the high note? Well, he'd be singing the 'py' of 'happy' instead of 'birth'.  But he does it so fast and seamlessly with any song someone throws at him, that you feel like you've entered the Twilight Zone!  He says he's only been asked to do it a half dozen times at auditions, but having seen him do it, I'm not sure why he's not an internet celebrity from it, lol! Jeff Kready put it on YouTube already!

Meet Haley Pavone, Creator of the First Convertible High Heel (Which You Definitely Need RN)

Every woman has a horror story about high heels, just ask anyone and it’s likely that she’ll talk about an intense love/hate or hate/hate relationship with them. Nobody loves standing in heels all day. No one wants to be forced to take their heels off in order to break it down on the dance floor, or to go barefoot when the pain is too much. Unfortunately, there has never really been any other choice – it's either flats or heels, and nothing in between.

BUT, what if we told you that the solution to all your heel-related problems could be solved, like, right now? Well, Pashion Footwear, a shoe brand created by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student Haley Pavone, is the solution we knew we needed, but never thought we would get. Introducing the world’s first convertible high heel, designed by Pashion to be unique and practical. You can walk in the flats to dinner, then just pop on the heels when you get there. You can take pictures in your cute outfit, then tuck the heels away in your purse when it’s time to walk home.

Pashion is changing the face of the high heel industry, a change that's so long overdue. While talking with Haley, she told us all about her idea for the shoe, the process of building a company, and her plans for the future. Spoiler: Her idea for the shoes was sparked by a really unfortunate encounter with a spiked stiletto heel.

The inspiration for creating Pashion

“In spring of 2016, I was at my sorority spring formal, and I had worn six-inch heels to the event because I have always been a big fan of high heels. But I also really love to dance when I’m at those kinds of events, and you can only kind of really do the shuffle when you’re in those heels, you can’t really break it down. So I just took off my heels and tossed them to the side of the dance floor, and through an unfortunate series of events one of my sorority sisters perfectly hit my toe with the point of her stiletto. It just went right through my toe.

While I was sitting on the side of the dance floor un-impaling myself, I remembered that my professor always said the best products come from a real-world pain because people always want to put money towards solving a physical pain that they’re feeling. I was like, 'Okay, this is my physical pain. I would definitely pay money to solve this problem right now.'

I started looking around and I realized easily 90 percent of the girls at the party were barefoot, and I started thinking back to prom and every wedding I went to where women ended up barefoot. It just seemed kind of ridiculous to me that there’s this whole process when you’re getting ready for an event [when] you pick out your heels, put them on, and kind of mentally already accept the fact that [they’re] going to hurt you to the point where you end up abandoning them after an hour.

I was like, that doesn’t make any sense. There just has to be a better solution than that. Someone’s got to make the solution, so it might as well be us.

Why Pashion is so necessary today

“We think that high heels have been a symbol of oppression for decades. High heels were designed by men and are still predominantly designed and manufactured by men—which is a big part of why they’re so uncomfortable. The people who make these shoes and have the ability to make a change on how uncomfortable they are aren’t actually wearing and experiencing them. It’s not really at the forefront of their minds to actually address this as a problem.

I just think it’s completely ridiculous that in the 21st century, women are being forced to wear something that’s causing them physical pain for the sake of looking good. This product is going to be the first thing that really brings women's perspectives into women’s footwear and provides them a solution that can adapt through the day just as epically as they do.

The market needs this and women need this. It is a problem that’s long overdue for a solution and we’re excited that we’re the team that gets to make it happen.”

On being a woman-run company

“What’s really great about Pashion is that we are completely female-founded and about 70 percent female-run. We feel like we’re uniquely qualified to tackle this problem because we do actually experience this pain, we’ve been there. We know firsthand how uncomfortable high heels are, which is why we’re so motivated to change it by creating these practical yet fashionable solutions.”

The biggest challenge

“I guess the biggest challenge was just being a full-time student while also learning how to be a CEO of a shoe company. It’s not like I knew a ton about shoes to begin with, so the biggest obstacle to overcome was just learning how to do this kind of as we went along. We really just embodied the idea of, 'Hey, throw yourself into the deep end and see if you can swim, [and] try to surround yourself with the best people possible so you can be as prepared as you can be.' But I mean, how prepared can you be in a situation like this? And it’s been fun—stressful, but at the same time so exciting and so rewarding.”

Advice for young entrepreneurs

“I think the biggest advice I would have for another student entrepreneur, in college in particular, is never to tell yourself it’s not a good time. The biggest pushback I got when I started the company was actually professors, advisers and friends who said, 'Aren't you going to have to drop out of school? You have too much going on,' and, 'Do you really have enough time to do this?' Something that I realized is that it’s never going to be a 'good time' to start a company.

Right now I’m going to start a company while I’m going to class, and I’m going to balance being a CEO with doing my schoolwork. But 10 years from now, I’d be balancing starting a company with working full time to pay my mortgage and support my family. So I think the biggest piece of advice I would give is that it’s always the right time. If you’re waiting for the right time, it’s not going to come, so you might as well just make it the right time.

There’s always going to be other stuff going on, but if it’s something that you care about and something that you’re passionate about, then you can find a way to make it work regardless of whatever else you’re doing at the time.”

Why giving back is so important to Pashion

“As a female-founded company that is going to be providing a product mostly to women, it’s super important to me that we do something to give back to all of the amazing women of the world. We want to integrate the Get Pashionate Initiative into the business, with the main goal being that we have certain shoes that are color-coordinated to different women's causes and then a portion of the profits from those specific shoes will support that cause.

This is really cool in the sense that women can feel really good about their purchase going to a cause that they care about. But some of the organizations have really unique colors so you’ll be able to kind of wear what you care about on your feet. For example, one of the causes I’m most passionate about is Domestic Violence Awareness, and the color associated with DVA is purple, which is not a color you would see usually in high heels. So for a lot of women who want to support that cause, it’ll be kind of [a] symbol of their passion for supporting that cause. They can make a statement, on their feet and also with their dollar, about what matters.”

Pashion Footwear is on presale for the entire month of July on Kickstarter (and you can sign up to receive email updates!). Get them while you can—they’re selling at the lowest price they’ll ever be!

A Guy Was Arrested For Allegedly Yelling 'Womp, Womp'& Pulling A Gun On Protesters

Protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies took the nation by storm on Saturday—but not without backlash from his supporters.

A modest protest against the “zero-tolerance” policy in Huntsville, Alabama was met with near tragedy when former high school teacher Shane Ryan Sealy, carrying a sign reading “ICE ICE baby,” stepped in front of the crowd and shouted “womp womp” and the notes of the hip-hop song.

Sealy’s outburst interrupted Kerry Holder-Joffrion, an Episcopal priest, who was delivering a prayer to about 100 protesters. “We pray for the children of this nation and all nations…We offer our love to all of our children” Holder-Joffrion said, according to The Washington Post. Although Sealy moved away from the scene, he continued shouting, making it difficult for Holder-Joffrion to finish her prayer. A few protesters followed Sealy away from the gazebo where Holder-Joffrion was speaking, hoping to confront him. Sealy soon got into an altercation with a protestor; although the fight began as a shoving match, it soon escalated as Sealy drew out a firearm from his pants.

“Gun, gun, gun!” one of the protesters shouted, according to a video of the incident posted to Facebook. Most of the individuals gathered dropped to the ground in fear.

Sealy did not fire any shots and put the firearm back into his waistband before walking away quickly. He was soon apprehended by the police and arrested for possessing a gun within 1,000 feet of a protest. He was also charged with menacing and reckless engagement.

Sealy’s “womp womp” noises reference a comment made by Corey Lewandowski, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager. Lewandowski appeared on Fox News last month and said “womp womp” after Zac Petkanas, former senior Democratic National Committee adviser, stated a ten-year-old with Down syndrome had been separated from her family because of the Trump Administration immigration policies.

But a violent interruption from Sealy was not enough to stop the passion of the protesters. Holder-Joffrian continued her sermon during the attack, shouting “We ask that you give us the strength in the face of the opposition not to hate, but to love. Prayer is stronger than hatred!”

Zayn Malik Did A Cover of Beyonce's 'Me, Myself and I'& It’s Enough to Make You Melt

It's been two years since Zayn Malik released his debut album as a solo artist and I can't blame his Zquad for getting excited, because the former One Direction singer is currently teasing his upcoming second album and the latest song he revealed is a cover of Beyoncé 2003 single, "Me, Myself and I."

This is undoubtedly one of the most iconic Beyoncé songs, and no one can do it the same level of justice, but Zayn somehow spins it into a catchy, slow jam definitely worthy of approval.

"I'm trying to keep it as mysterious as possible, but there's a plan with the roll out," the 25-year-old singer said in an interview with Variety about his album. "It's going to be different than anything anyone has done before." So far, the singer has only released singles "Let Me,""Entertainer," and his "Me, Myself and I" cover.

Just a little while longer until we hear the entire album and I definitely can't wait!

4 Reasons Not to be Embarrassed About that One Hookup or Relationship

$

We’ve all been there. Perhaps there was alcohol involved or maybe you were really adamant about getting some action that night, even if that person wasn’t your first choice. Maybe your high school relationship makes you cringe every time you think about it. Whatever the case may be, constantly feeling embarrassed or regretful isn’t going to make the situation simply go away. Instead, consider alternative reasons why you shouldn’t feel embarrassed.

1. You wanted to get laid

There isn’t anything wrong with wanting to get laid, and despite what you might think, sometimes that is enough of a reason to hook up with someone (with consent, of course). Remember that hookups and bad relationships do not define you as a person. They may take an emotional toll on you now, but you’re in charge of your character! What you may have done or not done sexually in the past is only an inkling of who you are. You are more than your sexual encounters.

In the wise words of Stacy*, a sophomore from Lehigh University, "You should never regret something that you once wanted or made you happy.” She summed up concisely why you shouldn't be embarrassed about a one-night stand.

2. You learned a lesson

Whether it was an awkward hookup or maybe a regretful relationship, chances are you got something out of it and know better for next time. You learned a lesson, whether it’s not to drink too many tequila shots or not to trust guys that only want to have sex and not a relationship. Maybe you even learned that you deserve better.

Kathy*, a sophomore from New York University, says, "We are young and it's okay to experience things just for the sake of it. As long as you get something out of it, take the time you have to be carefree."

Perhaps you even dated someone that everyone told you to avoid. "Bad news" was his description, and now you've suffered from the inevitable burn. Although it's a little embarrassing to be wrong about someone, take the newfound breakup as an opportunity to learn about yourself and your needs so you can avoid a relationship similar to the last.

Related: 4 Reasons You Feel Sad After Sex

3. There's another person on the other end of the hookup

More often than not, gossiping over who was bad or embarrassing in bed over brunch has seemingly become the norm. Some circumstances that might be embarrassing include a partner that was extremely unhygienic or underwhelming.  However, try to keep in mind that, despite their pitfalls, he/she consented to sleep with you too. Meaning, this certain person decided to have sex with you and you might want to consider their feelings. While your feelings are valid, no one likes to hear rumors about how bad they were in bed. Instead of bashing your ex or your hook-up from the night before, remember how damaging and degrading it is to hear rude comments about you.

Katie* from Syracuse University, relates to this issue as she realized her words had gotten back to her. "I had a bad hookup with this guy and told my friends about it, who ended up telling their friends about it. Long story short, the guy's entire frat doesn't speak to me anymore." Keep this in mind when your friends ask you discuss your night. Your comments could come back and hurt you.

4. No one really cares

Although your friends may tease you about something or someone embarrassing, at the end of the day, no one is too concerned with who you’re with because almost everyone has had an embarrassing hook up. Hard to point fingers when almost all of us have been there. Your real friends should be supportive and willing to comfort you, not harass or embarrass. They should know you as someone they cherish, not someone "tarnished" by a bad hook up or boyfriend. And if your friends are the teasing type, try to "roast yourself"!

If you’re still convinced that that really embarrassing hookup or relationship “ruined your life,” just keep waiting it out. We promise you’ll get over it, forget about it and have a great laugh about it one day. As long as all parties are consenting, you really shouldn’t beat yourself up too much about that awkward hookup. Good luck!

Everything You Should Know About Michael Cohen's First Major Interview Since Being Raided By The FBI

Back in April, the FBI raided the hotel room, office and home and Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former personal attorney. Monday morning, ABC News spoke with Cohen in his first interview since the raid, and he had a lot to say.

The FBI started investigating Cohen after it came to light that the lawyer paid porn star Stormi Daniels (aka Stephanie Clifford) $130,000 before the presidential election in 2016 to keep her quiet about an alleged affair she had with Trump. It was later revealed (although earlier Trump claimed that he knew nothing about the payment) that the president reimbursed Cohen for the payments, putting him in some potential legal trouble.

Cue FBI investigation.

While many expected the fiercely loyal Cohen to defend Trump in the interview, he ended up doing the opposite. In the past Cohen said he “would take a bullet for the president,” but now insists that he’s cooperating completely with the FBI investigation, even if what he reveals reflects badly on Trump.

He told George Stephanopoulos in the exclusive ABC interview that his highest loyalty is not to the president.  If he had to choose between the president and his family, he would without a doubt chose his family. “My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will...I put family and country first” Cohen said.

Cohen even explicitly disagreed with Trump’s criticism of the FBI’s investigation into the Stormi Daniels payment as well as into Russia’s alleged interference in the presidential election. “I don’t agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI. I respect the FBI as an institution, as well as their agents,” he said. “When they searched my hotel room and my home, it was obviously upsetting to me and my family. Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional. I thanked them for their service and as they left, we shook hands.” He claims that he is cooperating completely in both investigations.

Although Cohen did not directly talk about his innocence, or lack thereof, in the matters he’s under investigation for, he was adamant about that fact that he would not allow himself to take the fall for Trump’s actions. “I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone’s defense strategy. I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way” he said.

Cohen said he's hoping that a resolution will come out of this interview with ABC.

He told Stephanopoulos, “I want to regain my name and my reputation and my life back.”

Police Seized Ecstasy Pills Shaped Like Donald Trump Indiana

Recent patrols from the Indiana State Police resulted in 129 criminal arrests, 272 drug-related charges, and the capture of ecstasy pills shaped like Donald Trump, Fox News reports.

The bright orange pills were taken during “Operation Blue Anvil,” codenamed to help the police force target small-time drug traffickers along U.S. 31. From June 19-21 and 26-28, city and state officers (and even sheriff’s departments) seized drugs at traffic stops along the highway.

The Trump pills were in good company, as the authorities also found cocaine, heroin, LSD, methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, edible marijuana food, and prescription medication during their operation, according to USA Today's Courier & Press

The pills found in Indiana are stamped with the President’s face with the words “great again” on the back, akin to Donald Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again.” The slogan was reportedly revised on the darknet to attract buyers: “Trump makes partying great again."

As the New York Post noted, Traffickers often use bright colors and unique shapes to entice drug users to buy their product and return for more.

This isn’t the first time Donald Trump has been used to get high; last August, Newsweek reported that German police seized similar ecstasy pills from a 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old son in Osnabrück — a sister city of Evansville, Indiana.

Although the statement released by the police force on Friday contains no further details about the number of pills released, the officers in Germany found 5,000 pills during their raid, with an estimated value of 39,000 euros (45,800 USD).

The potential of having that many mind and body altering Trumps in the world is a scary thought (for more reasons that one).

'Pose' Star Hailie Sahar Talks About Her Role As Lulu & Why Self-Praise Is So Important (Exclusive Q&A)

When FX’s Pose isn’t retrofitting the 1980s narrative about ballroom culture to modern-day audiences, the show revitalizes LGBTQ+ stories to fit the current Trump-era. Aside from being a part of the critical (and long overdue) change needed in the entertainment industry, Pose has also graced us with an exceptional cast of LGBTQ+ stars, including actress Hailie Sahar, who portrays Lulu Abundance.

Prior to Pose, Sahar had a recurring role in USA Network's Mr. Robot, and she has a lengthy musical career outside her extensive acting experience. Her Campus spoke with Sahar about starring in FX’s hit show, which features the biggest LGBTQ+ cast and the largest cast of transgender actors in scripted television history—which is a noteworthy accolade on its own.

Her Campus: Have you learned anything about yourself from being on the set of Pose?

Hailie Sahar: Yes, more so with my acting. I’m always trying to take a possible aspect to be as authentic as possible, and it’s about taking a little bit of yourself and putting it into that character because that adds another element of realism to it. But I also want it to be real to who Lulu is. Every time I do a line, every time I perform, I’m there as Lulu. For me, I want it to be more and more authentic for that time and that era and that character.

HC: Definitely, it’s about that authenticity so that viewers can really tune into Lulu’s character as well as the whole theme of the show.

HS: Exactly. And still keeping it as myself but recognizing that Lulu is her own person.

HC: If there's one thing that you hope viewers gain from your role as Lulu on Pose, what would it be?

HS: I think, I'm praying, that people tend to see their shared experiences in Lulu and that’s something that’s so distinct. I think that the characters that have been portrayed for so many years before we started working on Pose have all been made-up storylines or things that they wanted the public to see—or principles that they wanted them to have. With this show, I pray and hope that people see Lulu’s character as human, and as someone that they can connect to, someone that they have shared experiences with, someone that they share qualities with. That way it will bring acceptance into peoples’ hearts and show that we’re all the same. That’s the one thing that I hope and pray for.

HC: I think that’s a huge and very realistic goal. I know that transgender women, and trans men as well, have been excluded from the entertainment industry, and it’s great to see transgender women rising in the industry.

HS: Yeah, and the thing is that there’s so much differing that really just connects all of us. If we go back to even Madonna and the "Vogue" era, that was just a different world. So we’ve always been connected and we all kind of live in the same arena together, even though we’ve been excluded from the world in a sense. The fact that this is coming out now, and we’re actually getting a chance to tell our stories, audiences can see that a lot of stuff in Hollywood today—and a lot of stuff in past—came from transgender people and the ballroom culture. So, we’ve always been connected, and I think people can kind of see that as the story of Pose unfolds—that these are things that really did happen. That we’ve always been here—we’ve been here this whole time. So it’s a beautiful thing.

HC: The entertainment industry still doesn't cast as many transgender women as they probably should. What advice would you give to younger transgender women who might want to break into the industry but are currently faced with rejection in the field?

HS: I would say, first of all, everything is changing. Things might not be completely different, but they are changing and that should give you hope. Because when I was starting out, there was nothing. So, at least that part should give you hope. Secondly, I would say is to be honest—whether you’re transgender or not. You’re an artist. Be authentic to your work, to your craft. Do the work, and the work will come. Study hard and really dive into your art. Just be an authentic artist, and your art will come to you and keep striving for it—never give up. Believe in yourself because, if you don’t believe in yourself, then no one else can. And I would give that advice to any artist. As far as being transgender, I would say that things are changing so there is a possibility.

HC: What advice would you give to your younger self?

HS: I would say that, well, I’m actually proud of myself. I would say, instead of giving advice—because I’m proud of myself and my younger self because it was very difficult growing up—I would look at that little kid and I would say, ‘I’m proud of you for believing and for praying and for letting God guide you. So I’m proud that you stayed focused and that you believed in yourself.’ Because the advice I was given was to keep praying, to love myself—even if it was difficult, to keep believing in myself. So I would tell myself that I’m proud.

HC: That’s amazing. I think praise is sometimes more important than advice.

HS: In this walk of life, it really is. It is. It was very difficult, very difficult, the things that I had to navigate to get to this point. It’s not just a career. It’s not just a personal life. It’s not just a performance. All of these things—I come from a very religious background, and it was very difficult, but that gave me hope.

HC: Your music video, and the lyrics themselves, for "California Dreams" is an upbeat anthem for just being yourself despite what other people might think. Are there any other messages you hope listeners gain from your music?

HS: Yes. In my music, like any artist, I think that it’s based on any kind of life, so I might still learn and grow with it. But I want to evoke people to party and just enjoy life. Other times, [my music] might be more sensual because that’s how I feel. That’s how “California Dreams” was written in the hopes that—I was in the mind frame of change and wanting to uplift people, and that was in my very first single. I wanted to give people something that was uplifting that would give you hope in the lyrics. That’s all through the song: you see the flag, and including Los Angeles, and just following your dreams. That’s my whole storyline. I just really wanted to uplift people, and I wanted to include that in my first single. Now as far as people, once again like in my acting, I hope that people love themselves and that people love who they are. Whatever that song may be, we all have differences and we’re all at different places at different times. So I would say whatever message people get from it, just have a good time with it.

HC: I think that’s amazing, and I really do hope that people get that message from [your music]. I feel like [“California Dreams”] is such an important song because it allows people to rise above the hate and love themselves.

HS: I believe that sets my song apart. I’m actually a very deep, thought out artist, so I do things very deeply and intimately for a reason. So, I just hope that people really get the message that I’m referring: to just be bold, to get out of the costume that you might be in so you can just be proud of yourself –all of that.

HC: Can you tell us anything about your new music that’s coming out, or is it going to be kind of a surprise?

HS: Actually, I can tell you what I was inspired by. I was really inspired by Pose and the '80s. I think when you do any project, you really dive into that time era, and you dive into that character. For me, I was listening to a lot of '80s music while I was finding Lulu. And Lulu has her own playlist on my phone. I literally play her playlist every day, especially when I’m on set, because I want to be in the zone of what Lulu would listen to—I really take it that far. So there’s a lot of instruments from the '80s, and I was really moved by it. Then, I really got into the space of it—how can I make pop music, how big can my hair get, how big can my flared pants get, what makeup can I blend together—you know, it’s very creative. And, I’ve learned to appreciate it, so there's a lot from the '80s. But, I’ve also implemented things from today and music from today. It has an '80s feel to it, and it’s very profound with the message in it. There are messages in all of my music. I’m hoping that I’m one of those artists that, when you listen to one of my songs, there’s a message in it—and it's always a powerful, uplifting, and beautiful thing. Sometimes, it’s a very personal thing, but there’s a message in there. So, there are messages in my music, and it’s something to look forward to. I think people are really going to love it.

HC: Definitely. And, I feel like—with those heavy messages and with those diverse and flexible messages—people can gather their own inspiration from it. Which, I think, will create a cycle of creativity.

HS: And that’s honestly what I want—to create energy for people to find their creative energy. I am a creative being and I’m a human being. I want anyone to have the opportunity that I’ve had to express that creativity. I want everyone to have their best lives, honestly. You’re given this life and you’re not going to be here for that long. You have a certain talent and purpose that you were given on this Earth, and you should just have fun with your life, enjoy your life.

HC: Absolutely. I think that’s a beautiful message to live by in general, for anyone. In addition to your music and your roles on Pose and Mr. Robot, you do a lot of activism in the LA area and beyond. Do you have any advice for young people who might want to volunteer or use their activism to make the world a better place but might not know where to start?

HS: I would say start with Google. I think [Google] can help connect you to your interests in your community. I think that’s the best place to go, as far as activism and getting involved in the community because it can give you inspiration on a lot of local projects and issues that you might have never even thought about. It’s about opening that first door. That’s the thing about doors—every door leads to other rooms. Know the message you want to convey and who you want to be—and whatever your message is, whatever activism you want to get involved in, just know exactly what it is and just follow your heart to get that message across. There’s a lot of information out there that will allow you to be an activist, and I’d say just follow your heart.

Drake Confirmed He Does Indeed Have A Child & I'm Not Too Surprised

Drake recently dropped his latest double album, Scorpion, which was highly anticipated for many reasons—but perhaps one of the biggest was to see if he would respond to Pusha T’s diss track claiming that Drake has a secret love child, allegedly named Adonis.

Well, Drake has responded—and he’s indeed a dad.

One of the most talked about songs in Scorpion is “Emotionless,” in which he sings, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world / I was hiding the world from my kid.” Ultimately it confirms the rumor, shared by Pusha T, that the Canadian rapper fathered a child, reportedly with Sophie Brussaux, a former French adult film star. (Though Drake doesn’t confirm these names).

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

The single “March 14” has more information about Drake’s fatherhood. He raps about meeting the mother of his son only twice and that he’s seen the baby, born October 11, only once. “She not my lover like Billie Jean but the kid is mine / [His mother] Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time, and all it took was one time/ S***, we only met two times, two times / And both times were nothing like the new times / Now it’s rough times / I’m out here on front lines just trying to make sure that I see him sometimes / It’s breaking my spirit.”

Drake’s own parents are separated, so he admits feeling disappointed his child will grow up the same way: “Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I’m embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent / Always promised the family unit / I wanted it to be different because I’ve been through it / But this is the harsh truth now.”

He also talks about taking a DNA test and his one meeting with the infant, during the holidays: “This the first positive DNA we ever celebrated / I can’t forget the looks on they faces / Got the news in Miami that we all now got ones that we raisin’ / Tell Jello bring some, uh, Rosé and Baccarat out for our cheers to the next generation / But this champagne toast is short-lived / I got an empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / I think he must’ve brought you like 20 gifts.”

Drake also makes it clear that things between him and the mother also aren’t great. “Hopefully by the time you hear this me and your mother will have come around instead of always cutting each other down,” he says on the album.

Well, that's a lot to process.

What Women With Curly Hair Need to Know About Hair Typing, & How to Do It

$

0

Hair is a huge and complicated topic for many of us. After all, it ties into our identities, especially for women of color. I've been learning a lot about my own hair lately, and I wanted to share what I've learned about one tool that's made a HUGE difference in what I know about my own hair: hair typing.

Hair typing is a huge system often used by girls with natural hair to identify which curl pattern they have. It comes into play a lot when deciding on products and how to best care for your hair.

Hair typing also happens to be one of the many controversial topics in the natural hair community.

The biggest argument comes from critics who say the system doesn’t include everyone’s hair. I completely agree, the system doesn’t account for things like transitioning, porosity and people who fall somewhere in the middle of different hair types. It can also create a sense of hierarchy, with some charts making it feel like one hair type being "better" than another. At the end of the day, though, hair typing shouldn't be a value judgment—there's no one ideal hair type. Instead, it should just be a way to learn more about your own hair, and how best to take care of it.

So let's get to it. There are 9 different hair types that are recognized by the hair typing system and basically include everything from slightly wavy (2a) to kinky (4c). The farther down the chart you go, the more tightly wound the curl patterns become and more TLC is needed to help your strands look their best. When it comes to knowing what kind of hair you have, I consider porosity to be the second most important indicator.

Porosity is how well your hair can absorb and hold moisture. Most people use three categories to define the porosity of their hair: high porosity, medium/normal porosity and low porosity. It’s actually pretty hard to know the porosity of you hair because there’s no 100 percent certain test.

However, there are a few ways you can figure out your hair type, because, trust me, it's a huge help.

1. Float Test: Put a strand of hair in a cup of water and wait 2-4 minutes

  • High porosity hair sinks
  • Low porosity hair floats

2. Slip n’ Slide Test

  • Run your fingers along a strand of hair
    • Low porosity hair will feel smooth
    • High porosity hair will feel bumpy

3. High Porosity test

  • Curls feel dry
  • Frizzy hair
  • Hair dries quickly

 4. Normal Porosity test

  • Good elasticity/bouncy hair
  • Products absorb well
  • Hair feels moisturized
  • Holds styles well

5. Low Porosity test

  • Water sits on top of your hair
  • Products feel like they’re sitting on top of your hair
  • 2nd day super frizzy, high porosity, 4c hair
  • Long dry time

By doing the porosity test and knowing my hair type, I started to make more conscious decisions about my curl care and not just blindly follow other naturalista routines. I recommend every curly girl takes a look at their hair type because the more you know, the better you can care for your curls!

There are Openly LGBTQ Characters Coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe & Our Queer Fears Might Be Avenged

$

If you’ve ever glanced at a Marvel comic book, you’d know that openly LGBTQ+ super-powered characters are (thankfully) more prevalent than the alternate universes in the Marvel fandom. While your favorite openly LGBTQ+ comic book characters might not be open about their sexual or gender identity in their cinematic universe, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige claims that out LGBTQ+ superheroes could be on the horizon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

During an interview with The Playlist, the publication asked Feige, “When are we getting a Gay, Bi, LGBTQ, out character in the MCU? Is it even in the works?” To which, Feige responded with a simple, “Yes.”

Later in the interview Feige, said that Marvel Studios plans to introduce “both” out characters that we’ve already seen in the MCU, as well as someone we haven’t yet been introduced to.

While it’s revolutionary that the MCU is finally incorporate out characters into its on-screen productions, many fans believe this is a lackluster announcement—especially since the MCU has already introduced us to several LGBTQ+ comic book characters without bothering to incorporate their LGBTQ+ identities.

One user writes, “It only took you 10 years, I guess.”

After all, the MCU has been building its plot for the last 10 years, and it’s subsequently been accumulating several LGBTQ+ characters that haven’t had the opportunity to share their unique versions of their sexual and gender identity with viewers. (Which is important because representation can show superhero fans, who are primarily young people, that the spectrum of sexual and gender identities are completely normal.)

However, Twitterverse’s response to Feige's comments could come from the almost canonical suppression of the cinematic world’s LGBTQ+ identities. The Los Angeles Times reports that a scene where a woman walks out of Valkyrie’s bedroom was cut from the final Thor: Ragnarok production due to time constrictions.

Granted, announcing a character’s sexuality after the film has wrapped doesn’t really count as adding to that character’s story arc. While we know Valkyrie is bisexual, it’s still important that her sexual identity is portrayed as part of her character’s arc, but Thor: Ragnarok’s presentation (or lack thereof) of Valkyrie’s sexuality wasn’t the only controversial omission of a character’s on-screen sexuality. According to Screen Crush, Black Panther filmmakers inevitably cut the romance between Okoye and Ayo, which contributed to the MCU’s apparent history of LGBTQ+ erasure.

But, Ayo, Okoye and Valkyrie aren’t the only LGBTQ+ superheroes already in the MCU. The loveable pile of rocks, Korg, is gay and is from a planet of entirely male Kronan (i.e. Planet Hulk). While we have yet to meet Korg’s comic book boyfriend, Hiroim, the duo met on Sakaar. Though the events of Thor: Ragnarok don’t exactly follow the event of Korg’s escape from Sakaar, we hope that Hiroim might be one of the future-slated, openly LGBTQ+ MCU characters. (Because we ship Korg and Hiroim.)

Then, there’s Loki, who’s canonically gender fluid and bisexual in the comics, but seems more like a closeted bisexual on-screen. You know what we’re talking about: ~that~ scene in Thor: Ragnarok, where the Grandmaster winks at Loki. Thor, who's captured, looks confused as hell and is basically wondering why the Grandmaster is winking at his brother. And, Loki just looks nervous AF, while they non-verbally plead the Grandmaster not to out them. TBH, it’s eerily reminiscent of the days we were in the preverbal closet—because Loki probably hasn’t come out to Thor yet, and we can feel that same fear. (But, it’s understandable why Loki is in the closet because that family has been a message since before Hela was born, thanks to Odin.)

Though the films’ respective directors commented about these omissions of Valkeryie’s, Ayo’s and Okoye’s LGBTQ+ story arcs, subtext about a character’s sexuality or gender identity shouldn’t be considered context—especially if it doesn’t actually make it to the final production. Previously, the MCU characters’ LGBTQ+ identities have been treated as an afterthought, but Feige’s recent comments could show that we’ll finally get the LGBTQ+ MCU that we deserve.

Beyond the current LGBTQ+ characters in the MCU who could finally become the open LGBTQ+ characters they were destined to be (probably in Phase 4 and beyond, you know, after we mourn Avengers 4), we have a few clues on who might be the future openly LGBTQ+ characters of the MCU.

Feige also hinted to Heroic Hollywood that the MCU could see the Young Avengers in the near future. Seeing as Cassie Lang (i.e. Ant-Man’s daughters) is a future member of the Young Avengers (at least in the comic book realm), it seems obvious that the MCU or Marvel Television could be building up to a Young Avengers plot—which is vital for LGBTQ+ representation and especially young members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Young Avengers basically hosts a conglomerate of LGBTQ+ superheroes, who use the Young Avengers team not only to fight crime, but also as a found family. Huckling, Wiccan, Miss America (i.e. America Chavez), and Loki make up just a few of the LGBTQ+ super-powered characters. Incorporating their LGBTQ+ identities in their (albeit hypothesized) future screen time could also give young members of the LGBTQ+ community some exemplary role models who also embody aspects of their own real-life identities.

On Sunday, an immigrant mother and her daughter who were separated at the border by the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy, finally reunited in Miami.

Buena Ventura Martin-Godinez hadn’t seen her 7-year old daughter Janne since she had left her daughter in Guatemala more than two months ago. Martin-Godinez had been staying with family in Miami after she crossed the US border with her infant son and claimed asylum on May 1, reported CNN. Martin-Godinez claimed she was fleeing gang violence and extortion threats in her hometown in northwestern Guatemala.

Pedro Godinez Aguilar, Martin-Godinez’s husband, crossed the border with Janne shortly afterwards, unaware that the Trump administration had enacted a zero-tolerance policy that would force parents who crossed the border to be separated from their children.

The effects of this policy sent Godinez Aguilar to a deportation jail in Atlanta while Janne was detained in Michigan, reported ABC News. From the child welfare agency in Michigan where she was held in custody, Janne made several tearful calls to her mother asking to meet her.

When they finally reunited at Miami Dade airport on Sunday, Janne cried as her mother wiped away her tears. "She is asking to never be separated from her mother again," Martin-Godinez said, translating into Spanish what her daughter said in her native Mam, reported CNN.

When asked to convey a message to other mothers, Martin-Godinez told them to consider not coming to the U.S. "The laws here are harsh. And people don't have hearts," she said."People dream of coming here, to save their lives, but I don't what them to experience what I've gone through," she said.

ABC News reported that more Guatemalans crossed the border than any other nation, with 29,278 families apprehended between October and the end of May. They flee home due to gang violence, state corruption, and poverty. These migrants look towards America not in the hope of achieving the American dream, but rather to safeguard their own lives and the lives of their families.

Author Junot Díaz Says He's 'Shocked' By Those Sexual Misconduct Allegations

It appears after several women accused novelist Junot Díaz of sexual misconduct back in May, Díaz is now adamantly denying these allegations.

Author Zinzi Clemmons kicked off the sexual misconduct allegations after she used her Twitter account to accuse the 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner of “forcibly kissing” her. Nearly two months after the initial allegations, Díaz told the Boston Globe during an interview that he's "shocked" by these allegations.

"I did not kiss anyone. I did not forcibly kiss Zinzi Clemmons. I did not kiss Zinzi Clemmons. It didn’t happen," he told the Boston Globe. Díaz adds that he was “distressed,” “confused,” and “panicked” by the accusations, defending himself, saying he had not bullied the women or been sexually inappropriate. However, after the initial allegations surfaced, Díaz made a potentially contradicting statement to The New York Times

Díaz told the Times in May: "I take responsibility for my past. That is the reason I made the decision to tell the truth of my rape and its damaging aftermath. This conversation is important and must continue. I am listening to and learning from women’s stories in this essential and overdue cultural movement. We must continue to teach all men about consent and boundaries.” But, it appears the Drown author might be rescinding this introductory statement.

During his interview with the Boston Globe, Díaz continues, “I was, like, ‘Yo, this doesn’t sound like anything that’s in my life, anything that’s me. I did not kiss anyone. I did not forcibly kiss Zinzi Clemmons. I did not kiss Zinzi Clemmons . . . It didn’t happen.”

Díaz, whose stories are full of male characters behaving badly toward women, now finds himself trying to draw distinctions between himself and his work, between sexual misconduct and consensual relationships having gone awry.

Surprisingly, the Cambridge author is keeping his teaching job at MIT and his editing position at Boston Review after separate investigations found the accusations lacked “the kind of severity that animated the #MeToo movement,” as Boston Review reports. NBC News notes that three editors at the Review have quit, seemingly in response to this investigation.

In April, The New Yorkerpublished an essay in which Díaz revealed he was raped at age 8 and recounted the heavy toll the experience had taken on his relationships. Although Díaz is a survivor of sexual assault himself, we should still listen to Zinzi Clemmons and the other women who are presently accusing Díaz of sexual misconduct and/or verbal abuse. Beyond lending an active ear, we should take these allegations seriously, regardless of the "lack of severity" that these allegations may or may not carry—because every sexual misconduct accusation is serious.

Justin Trudeau Claims He Doesn’t Remember A 'Negative Interaction' After Allegations That He Groped A Reporter In 2000

Oftentimes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is commended for his charming smile and his compassionate attitude and stance on many world issues. He’s described as an ardent feminist against sexual harassment, and is usually considered to be the opposite of Trump in every way — but maybe not anymore.

Trudeau has been accused of groping a young reporter almost two decades ago at a music festival in 2000. Originally published in a community newspaper in British Columbia, it has been recently gaining a lot of attention online.

Trudeau reportedly apologized for “inappropriately handling” and “groping” the woman reporter, and said “I’m sorry. If I had known you were reporting for a national paper, I would never have been so forward.” The publisher of the newspaper Valerie Bourne told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that she witnessed the incident and called it “a brief touch.” “I would not classify it or qualify it as sexual assault,” she said, but the reporter was still visibly “distressed” by the interaction.

The paper’s then-editor Brian Bell told the CDC that “whatever physical touch or whatever had occurred in that moment was definitely not welcome and definitely inappropriate.”

In a statement to Buzzfeed News in June, the prime minister’s press secretary Matt Pascuzzo said that Trudeau “has always been very careful to treat everyone with respect.” He remembers attending the music festival, but claims that “doesn’t think he had any negative interactions there.” On Sunday, Trudeau was asked about the allegations again, and still claims to “not remember any negative interactions that day.”

Even though Trudeau cannot remember the interaction, it doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. Because he is a man who prides himself in championing women’s right and the outlawing of sexual misconduct, this conversation over his own sexual misconduct surely won’t be dropped anytime soon.

Looks Like We're Finally Getting A Plus-Size Female Superhero & I'm So Excited

We live in a world that's dominated by superheroes—well, at least our movie lives. It feels like every few months we're racing to the theater to see yet another installation of the respective Marvel or DC universes. (And can you blame us?) Shortly after Deadpool 2 blessed us with a plus-sized superhero, we might get a plus-sized female superhero in the foreseeable future, Variety reports.

For some of us ladies, it's been difficult to identify with the current women superheroes. Not in their determination or their strength, but in the way that they look. You know the adage "Not all heroes wear capes"? Well, not every hero has a size two body.

Thankfully, according to Deadline, plus-sized superhero, Faith Herbert (aka Zephyr), is making her way to the screen. Yes, really! And it has the potential to be great because they hired Maria Melnik of American Gods to pen the script, Uproxx notes.

If you're unfamiliar with Faith (though you should totally familiarize yourself quick because she's badass), Faith starred in her titular comic book series, Faith. Aside from her superhuman ability of levitation which allows her to glide through the sky (i.e. fly, among other things), something we're still jealous of, Faith is also an immensely powerful poison. That's right: move over Emma Frost Charles Xavier because Faith can soar over her psionic counterparts, literally. Aside from her levitation and subsequent side effects from her levitation, Faith is a hyper-relatable character—especially since she's a gloried pop culture fangirl, just like us.
