Target Is Adding 150 New Makeup Products for Darker Skin Tones to Its Beauty Section, & It's About Time

After Rihanna debuted her inclusive cosmetic line Fenty Beauty, brands everywhere have been following her lead. Because celebrity-design products can be a bit expensive for a college student (who would rather use an expired $5.99 concealer than let it go to waste), thankfully, Target is adding 150 new makeup products specifically for darker skin tones to its shelves. There's no need to take out a fourth student loan to find your perfect shade!

According to Allure, Target is redefining drugstore beauty standards by adding eight new makeup brands to its stores that are created by and for people of color. These fresh-faced products will include over 60 different shades of foundation, and with that many foundation shades to choose from, we can’t help but wonder if Target will incorporate their own Target beauty experts to try to convince us to buy even more items we don’t need help us find our perfect match.

Teen Vogue explains that the new additions to the Target family will  include Coloured Raine, which specializes in pigmented palettes, and HALEYS, a brand dedicated to creating the perfect tone match and treating your complexion. Likewise, the store will also include beauty brands such as Hue NoirMakeup GeekReina RebeldeThe Lip BarViolet Voss and EveryHueBeauty.

Christina Hennington, Senior Vice President of Beauty and Essentials at Target, told Cosmopolitan that the company constantly listens to costumers’ diverse beauty needs, which is what inspired Target to make a home for these new products. “We’ll continue to listen to our guests to understand what beauty products they’re looking for at Target, and look forward to seeing their response to these new cosmetic brands,” Hennington adds.

Currently, all of Target’s new beauty products are available online and will be available in stores on May 20. Seeing as Target does listen to our needs and desires, these new beauty goodies are all set at an affordable price point. All of the items from the Target-approved brand range from $9.99 to $21.99.

If perusing the dozens of long-lasting lip shades by The Lip Bar doesn’t make you want to call in sick from work on May 20, then we don’t know what will. Seriously, you’re going to feel ill from spending your paycheck on these new products anyway, so you might as well take a sick day for this should-be-national holiday!

5 Ways to Do Festival Season on a Budget

0
0

Even if you haven’t been to Coachella before, you probably know what it is. And if you know what it is then you probably also know that this celeb-infested, desert-located, Instagram-worthy festival is over for the year. However, there is no need to develop post-festival FOMO because there are plenty more summer music festivals where you can rock the flower crown and choker combo that you have been dying to show off.

And while you totally want to get as much festival exposure as possible this summer (for musical enrichment purposes, of course), it isn’t really realistic to go and spend almost $200 on a manicure for said festival. That’s why we have five tips that will help you rule the festival for a whole lot less!

1. Choose festivals wisely

So many music festivals, so little money. Every festival has something different to offer from the line-up to the overall vibe. It can be tempting to want to go to any and every festival within a 50-mile radius, but that is definitely not the way to do festival season (unless you are the Jenner sisters). It is important to determine which aspects of festival life are the most important to you and narrow down your choices from there. If you are into major headliners, Governors Ball might be for you. For the smaller festival lovers, Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware, would be a great investment. It is possible to attend any festival on a budget, but it’s definitely harder to budget for some than others. While it might be fun to go to multiple festivals, come fall a three-day ticket to Bonnaroo probably won’t sound as good as being able to pay your rent.

"As a lover of music, there are so many concerts I want to go to this summer but unfortunately, due to my excessive amount of parking tickets and credit card bills, that won’t be possible," says Tara Kerrigan, a senior at Harper College. "Therefore, I chose Lollapalooza and spent $275 on a three-day ticket. Yes, going to other festivals would be fun but it isn’t worth putting myself into a deep hole of debt."

2. Create your look for less

While it would be cool to show up to your music festival of choice dressed like Taylor Swift, she more than likely has an extra million dollars or two lying around that the rest of us just don’t. Realistically, you probably have enough cute and comfortable clothes to last you a weekend so buying new ones isn’t completely necessary. That being said, there are ways to get a festival chic look on a budget. Stores that you know and love like H&M and Forever 21 have clothing lines specifically tailored to festival attendees. And the best part about them is that the prices are fabulous! Never let outfit issues prevent you from attending your favorite fest.

3. Carpool and co-camp

While it is important to attend the festival with your squad for Snapchat purposes, it is also one of the best ways to reduce the overall cost. The average general admission ticket for a music festival is anywhere from $200-400 and that does not even begin to cover the various other expenses. Many festivals charge for parking, but with one or two cars, the cost is much more manageable because you can split it among your friends. An added bonus is that you won’t have to play “Where’s Waldo” with your friends in the parking lot because you will all be together.

"Part of the fun is the adventure of getting there," says Paige Carpenter, a sophomore at the University of Arizona. "My favorite way is by road trip. Load up your car, all of your best friends and blast music all the way to Indio. It’s cheap and you get to see part of the country along the way."

As far as accommodations go, whether you are camping, glamping or renting a house, it is helpful to get as many friends together to cut down on costs. And who wouldn’t want a weekend long sleepover with their besties?

4. Volunteer

It might sound strange to volunteer at an event that you are trying to attend for fun, but hear us out because it is possibly one of the easiest ways to earn your way into the festival. Usually, larger festivals need all the extra hands they can get. If you check out the official website for your festival a few months before the date, there are usually requests for volunteers. Volunteers typically get pretty sweet rewards like free tickets or at the very least, an awesome discount.

5. Find cheaper tickets

If your budgeting skills are on point and you managed to recoup the money you lost over spring break and save for a summer festival, then kudos! However, most of us probably don’t fall into that category. No worries, there is still a way to get an affordable ticket without destroying your bank account—and that is eBay! Weeks and even days before a festival, there are people who are desperately trying to sell their tickets for whatever reason. Buying on eBay can allow you to get previously sold out tickets or even find cheaper ones. eBay is also a super safe option because it uses PayPal to ensure buyer protection. While this is more of a last minute approach, you can end up with a great deal.

And if you don’t get to go this year, it is always beneficial to keep your eyes open for any great giveaways for festivals coming up in the next year.

The memories that you create with your friends at a festival are invaluable, but not valuable enough to blow all of the money in your back account over the course of a weekend. Keep these tips in mind and you can be the reigning festival queen for years to come.

Dove Cameron Gets Super Candid On Twitter After Fan Asks About Her Cleavage

Dove Cameron came through on Twitter yesterday and had some real talk with her fans. After one fan tweeted asking the secret to Dove's cleavage, the 22-year old actress responded, "I have C cups, [it] ain't no secret."

The response lead to a spree of Dove responding to fans' queries and comments about sexuality, boobs, and the like. When one fan tweeted, "That makes me feel a lot better about having a larger chest," Dove was there for her.

In one now-deleted tweet that seemed to be a guy questioning what Dove said, she responded"preeeeeetty sure about it, my dude." Then, maybe addressing the same guy, she simply

ew

— Dove Cameron (@DoveCameron) April 19, 2018">tweeted, "Ew." One fan was quick to back her up.

And Dove agreed, giving an "eternal eye roll" to those kind of d-bags.

One user asked the Disney Descendants star how she dealt with being sexualized for something, like her cup size, which is out of her control. Her advice? "Cut gross people out of your life, make a nice emotional bubble for yourself and watch them be gross from the inside, untouchable."

It's so refreshing for a celebrity to be truly candid. It would've been totally understandable for Dove to ignore the tweet about her cleavage, but she decided to have a conversation that reached a lot of girls. One twitter user pretty much summed it up: "@DoveCameron shutting down the sexualization of women and their bodies, one tweet at a time."

Avicii leaves a legacy in the EDM community that will live for years and years to come, inspiring other musicians to pursue their own passions.

It's a blessed day: Kylie Cosmetics has officially confirmed that a "Kourt" collection is happening, and ever since Kourtney Kardashian herself showed off a gloss in a past episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, we've been patiently waiting for a hint of what this makeup debut might hold. As of yesterday, the finished product list has been revealed, TG.

The pastel-packaged palettes house hues of shimmery gold and bronze shadows, as well as some muted shades like an orange and an earthy red. These pigmented products made their way to the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram, where she showed off the vibrant packaging and shots of Kourtney wearing the pieces from the release, including a stunning red lip color. In addition to the shadows, the collection holds three lipsticks named "French Kiss,""Minnie" and "Rad"– apparently inspired by Kourt’s “go-to colors,” according to Elle

As a bonus, you can even see the new collection in action from Kourtney's time at Coachella! Makeup artist Rokael Lizama glammed Kourt up in her own creations and posted a snapshot of the beautiful result. The gentle shimmer makes for an epic “soft glam” look, as Lizama calls it.

The Kourt Collection will be available to shop as soon as April 24, so get ready to show some love if Kourtney is your fave Kardashian sister.

Making My Childhood Dreams Come True, This Disney x TOMS Collection Features Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella & More

A dream is a wish your heart makes... and guess what, real-life Disney princesses? If you've been dreaming about the perfect fashion statement that will truly show people you're Disney royalty/obsession, your wish has come true! Iconic shoe brand TOMS has collaborated with Disney to create a 30-piece shoe and eyewear collection that's perfect for those of us stuck in the cold, harsh reality of 2018 – because we could def use a little escape to the happiest place on earth.

Each print is unique because it features the original princesses, their animal sidekicks and other major characters in their storybook tales (hey there, Fairy Godmother!). To make it even more iconic, these prints were created by women, for women. That's right, ladies. We're girls supporting girls – or should I say, princesses?

According to HelloGiggles, The artwork used for the prints was part of the official Disney archives, created by a true, 100 percent female-based team in Disney's ink and paint department. Each print was created throughout the 1930s until the 1950s, so while it's vintage, the empowerment carried throughout the art remains alive and well today. This means that any girl who slips on these shoes is about to feel the lady power from decades ago (but I guess that's what the Disney magic is there for).

While the collection is expected to be released this summer, TOMS and Disney are releasing each print style of shoe separately. Maybe this is to keep the hype of the collection ongoing, or maybe it's because princesses deserve their own grand entrances. Either way, expect Cinderella designs to be out first on June 21, followed by Sleeping Beauty on July 19 and Snow White on August 23. It'll be a long, anticipated wait for this collection to be fully available, but it'll be well worth it.

I Finally Found My Perfect Underwear & I'm Never Going Back

0
0

I just love underwear that rolls, bunches and rides up... said no one, like, ever. Luckily, there's an underwear company out there that really gets it. Founded in 2008 by Tom Patterson and Erin Fujimoto, Tommy John, has been creating solutions for men's underwear for the past 10 years, and has just released their first-ever women's underwear collection.

Plagued with the fear of VPL (visible panty lines) and no stranger to the discomfort of poorly designed underwear, I knew I had to try some of these babies out for myself. I received a few pairs to wear during the launch, and spoiler alert: I'm never going back.

A post shared by Tommy John (@tommyjohnwear) on

To be quite frank, I've wasted a ton of time and money on some nonsense underwear that just looked awful underneath my clothes (and felt even worse). So, it was about time to get no-nonsense about it. Voting favorably in the "leggings are pants" debate and proudly living my best life in them about 90 percent of the time (athleisure ~ftw~), I truly value a pair of underwear that not only looks good under my clothes, but feels even better.

Featured in four different styles (brief, boyshort, cheeky and thong) and two unique fabric collections (Air and Second Skin), I was highly intrigued by all Tommy John has to offer with these magic undies, With a no VPL guarantee and feather-light "commando" feeling of the Air collection (and non-pilling fabrics from both).

Can a pair of underwear really do all that? Short answer? Yes.

I'll explain. My days are pretty packed, so going from class to athletics to meetings and more, I always want my underwear to be the last thing on my mind (as anyone would). On one particularly busy morning, I threw on a pair of Tommy John's Second Skin Thong ($20) and instantly fell in love.

Stepping out a little more confidently that day, I breezed through without making a single adjustment. Not one! No running to the bathroom or awkwardly shimmying down the hallway in between class to get everything back in place. Not to mention, they're soft AF, so I wasn't dying to get out of them by the end of the day. Not only did I not have to deal with them riding up, but they also didn't dig in and leave marks on my hips.

The next day I tried out the Air Thong ($26), knowing that an eight-mile run awaited me at practice that afternoon. Boasting anti-microbial fabric that doesn't roll or bunch (so much so that feels like it's not even there), I figured it would be the perfect pair of underwear to be active in.

Honestly, I was a little thrown off at first by how much it felt like I wasn't wearing anything! By the end of my run, I was happy to be wearing that particular thong and not feel disgusting ~down there~ while sitting around to stretch and foam roll. The underwear feels super smooth and light to the touch, and I really appreciate its moisture-wicking fabric.

Throughout this game-changing experience, I thought about why women generally subject themselves to uncomfortable underwear.

It seems as though many underwear solutions offered to women are thought to sacrifice sexiness for comfort, and vice versa. However, Tommy Johns are *super* cute for how comfortable they are, and the different silhouettes, as well as the colors offered, are extremely flattering and pretty. R-E-S-P-E-C-T yourself, ladies. You deserve both!

The company offers a "Best Pair You'll Ever Wear or It's Free" guarantee, so you can feel confident choosing the right pair for you. Tommy John, I'm glad we've met. I didn't know I needed these perfect undies in my life, but I truly did. Overcome the uncomfortable and watch their "Little Adjustments" video below!

Actress Karla Souza surprised fans on Thursday, when she revealed on Instagram that she had given birth to her first child, a beautiful baby girl named Gianna.

"So I have something to share with you guys," theHow to Get Away With Murder star wrote, alongside a picture of her sitting cross-legged, showing off her baby bump in a blue tracksuit. The news was a shock for many, who had no idea the actress was pregnant with her first child with husband of four years, Marshall Trenkmann.

Another post featured a photo of her holding her beautiful baby girl. "God blessed us," Souza captioned the image.

She also posted a series of photos on her Instagram Stories, showing her pregnancy journey from a sonogram of Gianna to her growing baby bump. "The last nine months have been nothing short of a miracle," Souza wrote. "We welcome our healthy baby girl Gianna, and we couldn’t feel more blessed in this moment," she wrote on her Instagram story.

Interestingly enough, Laurel Castillo, Souza’s character, was also pregnant and gave birth to son Christopher in a traumatic elevator delivery in the season four finale of How to Get Away With Murder. Maybe it was a way for her to practice for when she actually gave birth?

Big congrats to Karla and Marshall on their beautiful baby!

Sugarland Just Dropped A Break-Up Song With Taylor Swift & I Wonder Who Tay Was Thinking Of When She Wrote It

0
0

As she conquers the world of pop music (and pop culture in general), sometimes it’s easy to forget Taylor Swift’s beginnings as a country singer writing uber personal, emotional songs about being brokenhearted.

But Taylor recently went back to her roots on country duo Sugarland’s new song “Babe.”

Very different than what we’ve been used to hearing from Swift lately, no? She sings backup vocals in the chorus as Jennifer Nettles takes the lead, weaving a dreary picture of a love lost. The song was reportedly supposed to appear on Swift’s 2012 album Red, a fan favorite. After “Babe” was cut from the album, she offered the song—which she wrote along with Pat Monahan from Train—to Sugarland.

“She was excited that we were getting back together. She said, ‘Hey, I have a song…’ and we said ‘Yep!'” Nettles said backstage at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards.

Fans have been rejoicing Swift’s return to country. The song is currently at #5 on the iTunes charts, and although diehard Swifties have supported her no matter what genre of music she makes, some are particularly happy to see her go back to the genre that brought her into the spotlight.

Now that fans know Swift wrote the song during the Red era, speculation has arisen on which ex the autobiographical singer wrote the song about. Taylor Lautner? Jake Gyllenhaal? Someone we don’t know about? Whoever it’s about, the song certainly sounds like she’s never going back again: “Big mistake, broke the sweetest promise/That you never should have made.”

A 'One Tree Hill' Reboot Could Happen, According to Tyler Hilton & I'm Freaking Out

We live in a glorious day and age where many of our favorite TV shows from the 90s and early 2000s are being brought back to our screens. From Gilmore Girls in 2016 to Roseanne just recently, there's potential for our beloved shows to make a return once again.

Tyler Hilton (who played often loathed Chris Keller), recently hinted at One Tree Hill becoming the next possible TV comeback, and we can already hear the iconic theme song in our heads.

“Dude, we ask that every year. Who knows? I mean, it’s so random,” he told Us Weekly at WE Day’s Party With a Purpose x PacSun on Wednesday. “But I’m so into Roseanne and every time I’m asked about it, I’m like, ‘It could happen. You never know.’”

After being asked if he still spoke to his former cast members, he went on to state: “Yeah, we do actually. I mean, it’s crazy. We have, like, nine years, and through our formative years too and, like, our college years, which I feel like some of your closest friends come out of. So we see each other all the time. Also, there’s conventions still around the world. We see each other every year at those. And I’m playing at the Troubadour next Thursday, and so a lot of them are coming out to that too, which will be fun. I’m playing with Kate Voegele, who’s also on the show.”

If Chris Keller hints that this revival might be a possibility, then I'll cross my fingers and hope that the O.C. is next.

Netflix should just get on top of rebooting all of our beloved angsty teen dramas tbh.

One Student Was Shot & Injured At A High School In Ocala, Florida

As high schoolers around the country walked out of their classrooms to push for gun policy reform, a student was injured in a gun-related incident Friday morning in Ocala, Florida, according to CNN. The wound is not considered life-threatening.

The altercation occurred moments before the students of Forest High School were about to participate in a voluntary anti-violence demonstration, a planned walk-out announced on the school’s official Twitter account the night before.

Law Enforcement Officials responded quickly following the incident, placing the suspect in custody within three minutes, according to WFTV. CBS News reports that the students were then escorted off campus in busses by law officers on motorcycles. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office instructed citizens to avoid the area through a Facebook post. In the post, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized rumor control, announcing that “No other Marion County Schools have had a shooting,” and that other schools are on Code Yellow only as “a precaution.” Parents and students were later reunited at the First Baptist Church of Ocala.

Because of the incident, all school walk-outs planned for today throughout Marion County have been cancelled, said school board member Nancy Stacy.  TIME noted that the walk-out was part of a nationwide demonstration meant to protest violence in schools on the nineteenth anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre.

CNN declared this morning’s altercation the twentieth school shooting of the year. Yet a closer look at the numbers reveals that this number may be less than accurate, according to The Washington Post.  Because Everytown defines a “school shooting,” as “any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds,” and not dependent on the context or consequences of the discharge, the number is subject to inflation.

Despite these vague statistics, it remains clear that there is a definite need for new strategies to be put into place in order to protect students across the country and prevent future violent incidents.

Why Not Use 4/20 To Get Real About The Cannabis Business & Drug Activism In 2018?

0
0

Every April 20th (AKA 4/20 or National Weed Day) countless people celebrate their love of cannabis-related products by getting high, sharing weed memes and generally acting like the way-too-obvious kid who sitting in the back of your Intro to Philosophy class. Allegedly coined by a group of high schoolers in the 70s, the notorious holiday has become an annual celebration of stoner culture.

According to Ballotpedia, only eight states in the U.S. permit recreational cannabis usage, whereas 29 states have legalized medical marijuana (and 16 others have legalized the use of cannabis oil). With the different policies in place, it creates a situation where legal cannabis-related businesses thrive in the parts of the U.S. where they’re permitted, while other laws still incriminate people in other states, particularly for members of marginalized communities and people of color.

Along with all the fun of the high holy day of 4/20, it would be pretty hypocritical not to pay attention to the realities of cannabis policy in the U.S., though. So Her Campus talked to weed entrepreneurs, legal experts and activists about this complicated moment in cannabis history, to look closer at how folks can support legal businesses while also supporting the people who have been targeted by marijuana laws for years.

The Pot Privilege Problem

The history of cannabis laws in the U.S. is as deeply connected with the country’s racist and xenophobic past (and present). As Jose Belen, a decorated United States Army Combat veteran, cannabis activist and co-founder of Florida Mission Zero, notes the “demonization of cannabis” in the United States —right down to the use of the word “marijuana”— was born out of anti-Mexican immigrant sentiments in the 19th century.

Belen, whose activism centers around making the drug accessible to the medical community, told Her Campus that the drug (which had previously been available as a medicine in the United States) was essentially rebranded to support xenophobic myths and eventually the laws passed to prohibit it contributed to lasting devastation in other marginalized communities.

As the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) notes, current marijuana laws in the U.S. disproportionately affect people of color, particularly black men. While white people and people of color use cannabis at virtually the same rate, the ACLU reports that black people are much more likely to be incarcerated for cannabis crimes. In fact, people of color are 375 times more likely to receive jail time than their white peers.  For some perspective, the ACLU notes that out of the 8.2 million marijuana arrests between 2001 and 2010, 88 percent of them were for just having marijuana.

The stigma surrounding drug-related arrests could also prevent people of color from breaking into the legal cannabis industry. As City Lab reports, 81 percent of all cannabis-related businesses in California are owned by white people.

According to Robert Miller & Associates, the State of California reserves the right to reject an applicant who has a criminal background, especially if an applicant has been convicted of a crime that’s “substantially related to the qualifications, functions, or duties of the business or profession for which the application is made.”

Therefore, if someone who has been convicted of a cannabis-related crime attempts to apply for a cannabis license (so they can start their own legal cannabis business), their application could be rejected. The regulations behind starting a legal cannabis business can be an additional limiting factor for people of color, who are statistically more likely to be arrested for cannabis-related crimes, to establish their own business.

“It is the epitome of hypocrisy that someone who has gotten in trouble for something that is now legal cannot work in the industry in some cases,” Jane West, the CEO of the titular cannabis lifestyle brand Jane West and founder of Women Grow, told Her Campus. “It is insane that a bunch of white dudes are working on getting rich off of cannabis, while there are still people sitting in jail for it.”

What can cannabis consumers, producers and students do?

Cannabis attorney, activist and advisor in cannabis law Cristina Buccola, told Her Campus that to combat the ways “cannabis prohibition has been used to oppress communities of color” any cannabis legalization legislation should center “equity and social justice measures.”

She also suggests channeling cannabis tax revenue to create social justice programs, health and mental health services, and “legal services in the communities most disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition."

Buccola says those strategies can also work to diversify the cannabis industry: “These equity and social justice measures can include encouraging POC to participate in the industry, requiring diversity plans for license applicants, allowing/promoting those with criminal histories to seek employment in the cannabis sector, and expunging criminal records for cannabis offenses that are no longer criminal.”

West, who has also worked to mentor other small business owners — particularly women — in the cannabis industry, says that it’s super important for other businesses and consumers to be mindful of the racially biased cannabis laws as they navigate the new frontiers of the weed biz if they’re ever going to combat the hypocrisy.

West isn’t a stranger to cannabis-related stigmas herself. After her employer witnesses her vaping on CNBC in 2014, West lost her job as a corporate event planner. In response, she grew her empire to empower women in the cannabis space, founding the industry’s largest networking organization for women in the industry along the way. Because she has experience working with and mentoring women and other people who are discriminated against in the cannabis industry, West recommends that people passionate about the movement start getting loud and embrace transparency about the cause.

“Attending protest and rallies is part of being a bold and vocal part of this movement,” West said. “If you really care about this, you should bring it up to your employer. I would say marijuana legalization is globally inevitable, so you are on the right side of history. I would recommend talking with your employer about why you want to attend these events. You might be surprised how they feel about it.”

The Times They Are A’Changing?

After all, cultural ideas surrounding cannabis consumption are rapidly changing. As the Pew Research Center noted earlier this year, sixty percent Americans are now in favor of legalizing marijuana — almost twice as many as the numbers (31 percent) from 2000.

And for people like Belen, who has been working with like-minded activists to sue the federal government to remove cannabis from its list of Schedule I drugs, legalizing cannabis in the U.S. could be a gateway to some major progress in healthcare while taking strides to do right by the people harmed by this drug policy.

“My frustration with the current scheduling is that there are so many American men, women, and children who are suffering as a result of [cannabis being a Schedule I drug], while the government owns the patent to cannabis as a form of neuroprotection," Beren said. "Descheduling cannabis would help so many American minorities that are often the target of arrest for marijuana offenses lead lives not as criminals, but as patients and productive human beings..If we make cannabis readily available to those who need medical access to it, we can truly start the healing of our nation’s sick that is so desperately needed.”

Arizona Has A New Law Requiring Doctors To Ask People Why They're Getting Abortions & It's Seriously Invasive

A new Arizona Bill (SB 1394) was introduced into law by AZ governor, Doug Ducey, that requires doctors to ask people their reasoning for seeking out an abortion. Refinery29 reports that the questions are specifically targeted towards finding out if the “pregnancy is the result of a rape or if they're requesting abortion care because they're victims of domestic abuse or sex trafficking.”

Not only are physicians being required to give this invasive questionnaire but they’re also required to provide patient’s answers to the Arizona Department of Health Services. According to AZ Central, a local Arizona news outlet that’s part of the USA Today network, “Republicans and other supporters of SB 1394 said the questions are intended to help victims of assault or trafficking who are coerced into having an abortion.”

Although this is what supporters are claiming for reasoning of this bill, this really isn’t intended to help and support victims. Yes, doctors are required to provide patients with resources if rape or sexual assault is the case but Abortion Information noted in their blog post that four different Arizona medical groups didn’t support the bill as well as was opposed by the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

Jodi Liggett, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona recommends “Instead of shaming and harassing women seeking health care, we urge policymakers to focus on respectful solutions that actually lower the abortion rate, like birth control.”

Maybe the government should stay out of patients’ business? IDK, just a thought.

This Girl Learned Beyonce's Coachella Choreography In Only 40 Minutes & I'm Shook

As we all know, Beyonce is one of the headlining acts for Coachella this year and last weekend, her performance was live streamed for all of us to enjoy. While it stirred major buzz among fans of the pop star, it also allowed for some killer choreography by a teen who learned one of the routines in under 40 minutes. Yeah, my jaw is on the floor, too.

Brianna Bundick-Kelly, a college freshman and notorious Beyonce fan who once went viral for dancing to Bey's songs before, has found internet fame again after posting a video of herself dancing along to Bey's Coachella stream.

Kelly found Twitter fame back in 2016 when she was dancing to "Formation" with Bey and her crew. Are you kidding me?! She's literally so freaking amazing.

I can't get over the level of talent, especially because she learned the Coachella routine in under an hour. What?! I just wanna know how. Brianna, who goes by Briyonce on Twitter (rightfully so), is shocked by the love the video has received. "I’ve had a video do well before but never like this," she said. "Everyone is calling me and everything and I don't know how to react." She went on to mention how the Black sorority aspect of Bey's performance was really empowering for her. "Every part of the performance, I was like, 'Oh, my God, I know what that means! I've seen that before.'" Amazing.

We have yet to hear from Queen B about the videos Brianna has posted, but I can only hope she gets the love she deserves from the woman who inspired her to post them. It would also be *amazing* if Beyonce would hire her as a backup dancer. I think she'd totally crush it, TBH. Brianna is also on board with the idea. "I would love to be in the part of the performance when she had a dance section where she brought out the thicker girls, but honestly, I wouldn't care were she put me. If Bey asked me to join anything EVER, I would do it without question."

Okay, so who do we call to get this going? BRB, Googling the contact for Beyonce's agent.

Cannabis Lip Balm Is a Thing & I Love It

Much like me and past boyfriends, Cannabis and I have a longstanding, tumultuous relationship. Much unlike me and past boyfriends, Cannabis and I have recently landed on some common (non-psychoactive) ground.

Let me explain. I used to be your occasional recreational smoker seeking an easy way to unwind after a long day. This is when me and Cannabis were in the honeymoon phase. Then one day, I took a weird hit off a mini-bong named Jobin, and my mellow highs turned into anxious nightmares.

I decided to break up with Cannabis all together. Over time, as this long-bastardized plant began to emerge out of the shadows as the hero of all things health, I decided to give it another chance with one caveat: Give me all your amazing benefits and none of the psychedelic side effects. At that, Cannabis revealed itself to have so many layers! So many uses! So. Many. Benefits. And they did not include getting high. I’m totally hearts-for-eyes all over again. 😍

One such product? Chapstick.

One of my favorite non-psychoactive cannabis products is hemp oil. Hemp oil is smooth, lush, and boasts of health benefits such as balancing hormones, healing skin conditions, and being the ultimate moisturizer. When I read that one of my favorite fragrance brands, DedCool, was releasing a hemp oil lip balm for 4/20, I had to get my hands on it ASAP.

DedCool is literally dead cool. It creates scents that are uni-sex, vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic — like Cannabis Chazstick, which is made from 100% all natural vegan shea butter and hemp seed oil. It’s lip care goals for days, and while made in part from Cannabis, is completely non-psychoactive.

Here’s how it went down.

DedCool’s Chazstick comes in a thick tube — big enough to easily find when it’s roaming free in your bag. It’s basically the perfect packaging for someone who hates to lose their chapstick (RIP to all the amazing chapsticks lost. Heartbreaking every time). Too, though, the packaging is 100 percent edgy-cool, and it makes complete sense for the person who maaaybe kinda sorta wants to let people know they’re into weed without being overkill. It’s also artsy in a minimalist way, and totally IG-ready.

The application process is pretty simple. It is chapstick, after all, and we’re all well acquainted with our beloved lip balms. It goes on smooth and tastes like pineapples, which is a major plus. I found myself applying basically all day not because I had to, but because I wanted to show off my new best bud and smell like a tropical island.

I love this lip balm. It tastes awesome and is totally moisturizing. Bonus points for being vegan, cruelty free, and for making me feel like a total badass when putting it on. ✌

Would you try this out? LMK by DMing us on @HerCampus. And let us know if we should keep delving into the world of CBD-beauty, because it's actually becoming super endless, and super interesting. Like this weed serum. And if you want me to try more, I will. For science. And for you.

The Internet Rallied Around This LGBT Bookstore & The Outcome Was Astonishing

It’s always important to support local, small businesses and especially book stores! Book stores seem to be going more and more extinct. But this cute story has come to save your soul (and this small LGBT bookstore!). It all started when Common Language Bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan posted a facebook update about sales being slow and providing a few suggestions for people to buy and read.

This caught the attention of Tumblr user Dadrielle, as The Mary Sue reported.

Dadrielle wrote: “I saw a sad facebook post from the gay bookstore back in Ann Arbor where I used to live about how they hadn’t sold any books that day so I went on their online store and bought a couple, and while you don’t get #deals like elsewhere online, I’d love it if y’all would consider buying your next gay book from them instead of like, Amazon.”

This post ended up being reblogged over 120,000 times and what happened because of this was life-changing for the Common Language Bookstore.

The store closes the post saying “All of you did this. You made it happen. And you can be a part of making that dream come true. In fact, you can be the most important part of making that dream come true. You can be an ambassador.”

If you want to contribute to the surge of online orders, check them out here! They have wonderful suggestions right on the front page. Happy queer reading!

Senator Chuck Schumer Is Celebrating 4/20 By Introducing Legislation That Would Decriminalize Cannabis On A Federal Level

On this 4/20, Senator Chuck Schumer plans to celebrate by introducing legislation that would decriminalize cannabis on a federal level.

Basically, a 1970 law created a Drug Enforcement Administration list of scheduled substances that classifies drugs into five categories based on the drug’s “acceptable medical use and the drug’s abuse or dependency potential.” Cannabis is currently a Schedule 1 drug, meaning that on a federal level, it has “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” That puts it in the same category as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD, and a category more dangerous than cocaine.

According to NPR, Schumer’s law would remove cannabis from the schedule, require more research on its public health impacts, and maintain federal authority to regulate commercial advertising (similar to how tobacco and alcohol commercials are regulated).

The legislation would also establish funding for women- and minority-owned cannabis businesses.

As Schumer explained on Twitter, "Now, I recognize that time after time when these sweeping changes occur, the little guys lose while the big guys continue to profit. We saw this with big tobacco and we could see it with marijuana as well. That’s why this bill will inject real dollars into minority and women-owned businesses to ensure those disproportionately affected by marijuana criminalization can benefit from this new economy."

"I'll be introducing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level from one end of the country to the other," Schumer told VICE News. "The legislation is long overdue."

Could Your College Acceptance Really Be Rescinded?

You’ve worked super hard and your stress levels has gone off the charts. Then finally, it arrives. Your admission letter is finally here. And you have been accepted! Congrats, pre-collegiette! You may think your work is done, your future is secured and it’s time to finally kick back and relax (hello, Netflix!), or go to way more parties, but unfortunately, that’s not necessarily the case.

Your acceptance isn’t rock solid, it’s conditional—meaning if your grades slip significantly, your offer could be taken back and all your hard work could go to waste. We definitely don’t want that to happen, and we’re sure you feel the same, so we talked to Bari Norman Ph.D., Certified Educational Planner, co-founder and president of Expert Admissions, and current collegiettes to get the lowdown on ensuring that your spot at your future college stays safe and sound.

What does it mean to have your letter rescinded?

If you read through your entire admission letter, you’ll notice that it says your offer is conditional. But, do you know what this actually means?

“All admission letters say the offer is on the condition that you maintain the level of academic performance that you’ve had up until now–they say it in some way, shape or form,” Norman says. So, there are different ways that your admission could be taken away, and it’s not just your grades that could affect your acceptance.

Why exactly would your acceptance to a school be rescinded? Read below to find out.

1. Bad grades

This is probably the most obvious reason you could expect your letter to be rescinded for. However, it's still worth mentioning, especially considering how easy it is to lose motivation at the end of senior year.

“College offers can be rescinded most commonly because there’s been a significant dip in your grades,” Norman says. “If you’re a student who’s basically gotten all As and a couple Bs here and there, and you get one or two Cs and you’re applying to a highly selective college, potentially, you could hear from [that] school about an offer being rescinded.”

Don't stop hustling, pre-collegiettes. Summer will be here shortly.

2. Course switches

Another surprising way you could get your offer rescinded is if you switch courses. Be wary that switching out some of your hardest classes for an easier elective could have potential drawbacks in the long run.

“Sometimes students will drop classes, and if you’re considering doing that, you should always communicate with any colleges you’re either actively applying to or have been admitted to, and ask them if it’s okay to make that switch to your curriculum,” Norman says. “If you do it without asking, they may say that it’s not okay. They may feel that it weakens your curriculum enough that they wouldn’t have admitted you had that been your curriculum at the start.” Definitely think twice before switching your courses.

3. Disciplinary issues

Disciplinary issues can make you lose your acceptance to a college, as well. We all know how easy it is for your intentions to be misconstrued, so try to avoid even the slightest risk of trouble––hey, that "funny" senior prank could go very, very wrong.

“If you get into some trouble at school and there’s a suspension or expulsion, there’s a possibility for the rescinding of the offer,” Norman says. Try to stay out of trouble, pre-collegiettes!

So, how likely is it to happen?

Is it a likely to get your offer revoked? Thankfully, n ––but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

"The vast majority of people do not have this issue,” Norman says. “It absolutely does, [though]. It’s not just an urban myth.”

We don't want to worry you, but we do want to warn you to be careful. “The idea is you don’t want to finish out any weaker than you’ve been thus far,” Norman says. You don’t have to step up your game completely and go even harder than before, but you do need to maintain your grades.

One collegiette shares what happened when her grades dropped after her acceptance. Mackenzie*, a senior at the University of British Columbia, shares her experience in her last term of high school, “For both visual arts and drama, I received a C- and C+ respectively and these were mandatory courses for my high school,” she says. “They were the worst grades that I ever got.”

Thankfully, this story does have a happy ending. Despite dropping to these low grades, Mackenzie’s offer was not revoked. “Getting these respective grades did not deter me from being accepted into UBC's Sauder School Of Business, since these courses were far from related to any course work that I would be exposed to in Sauder,” Mackenzie says. “Visual arts and drama were just not relevant enough compared to my other high school courses to be taken into account.” But keep in mind that this is one person's experience and definitely doesn’t mean you can get a D or F and still expect to keep your offer.

How to prevent it from happening

You killed it thus far and got into college, so why should keeping your acceptance be any different? You were able to keep your grades strong up to this point, so don’t worry that there will suddenly be a dramatic change—this ain’t The Bachelor. As long as you maintain your habits and continue to work hard, your offer will remain on the table.

Ashley*, a senior, maintained her strong grades after her acceptance to her top school. Her advice? “You got in doing what you're doing, so just don't change anything,” she says. “No need to work harder, but don't work any less hard.”

As hard as it can be, resist senioritis. “You need to stand your game,” Norman says. “It is hard because it’s the last leg of the race and you’re tired and exhausted, and once you have an offer at hand, you feel like ‘okay I’m done’—but you’re not done.”

She adds, “Done is graduation, and then you can celebrate. But, you’re not done just because you have the offer at hand.” You should absolutely celebrate your acceptance, but save the big celebration and total relaxation for after you get your high school diploma.

Jackie*, a freshman, also kept her grades and spot solid after her acceptance. “Make promises to yourself and others that you can commit to, [and] take away your temptation/procrastination,” she says. “Study with productive people, get to a productive space, sleep eight hours a day, exercise and eat healthy.”

What to do if you receive a warning letter

You opted for a Netflix binge or two (or more) instead of studying and your grades have taken a hit. Then, out of the blue, you receive a dreaded warning letter. What should you do next?

Some colleges will provide you an alternative. “The warning letters tend to come more in [the form where] they say, ‘listen, this is the option, either you come to our campus this summer, take two or three classes, maintain a high GPA and you start out on academic probation, or you don’t come at all’,” Norman says.

But not everyone can be that lucky. “The warning letters are usually not much of a warning, which is why you have to make sure you don’t get yourself in the position,” Norman adds. “There’ll be times where they’ll rescind the offer period, where there is no warning or alternative given to you.” That is obviously not a scenario you want to get yourself into, so keep working hard.

Keep your eye on the end goal, pre-collegiette, and your spot at your future college or university will be safe and sound. Summer will be here in no time and then you’ll finally be in grade-free territory—well, just for a couple months at least, but hey, we’ll take what we can get! Soon you can trade your class notes for a bikini, but for now, keep on pushing for a little bit longer.
